RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Unilateral posterior scissors-bite (uPSB) malocclusion is common clinically. This study aimed to investigate the condylar morphological alterations and condyle-fossa relationship in patients with uPSB, through cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and three-dimensional reconstructive imaging technique. METHODS: A retrospective study was designed to comparatively analyze 95 patients with uPSB between July 2016 and December 2021. They were divided into three subgroups: 12 to 20, 21 to 30, and ≥ 31 years, according the age distribution. The morphological parameters regarding condyle, fossa, and joint space after three-dimensional reconstruction were measured and analyzed by a series of digital software. SPSS 26.0 software package was performed for statistical analysis on data sets, using paired t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Wilcoxon signed-rank sun test, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and Bonferroni correction. RESULTS: The condylar volume (CV) of scissors-bite side was greater than that of the non-scissors-bite side (CV A = 1740.68 ± 559.80 mm3 > CV N = 1662.25 ± 524.88 mm3, P = 0.027). So was the condylar superficial area (CSA) (CSA A = 818.71 ± 186.82 mm2 > CSA N = 792.63 ± 173.44 mm2, P = 0.030), and the superior joint space (SJS) [SJS A = 2.46 (1.61, 3.68) mm) > SJS N = 2.01 (1.55, 2.87) mm), P = 0.018], and the anterior joint space (AJS) (AJS A = 3.94 ± 1.46 mm > AJS N = 3.57 ± 1.30 mm, P = 0.017). The constituent ratios of the different parts of the bilateral condyles were 23% on the posterior slope, 21% on the top, 20% on the anterior slope, 19% on the lateral slope and 17% on the medial slope, respectively. CONCLUSION: Due to long-term abnormal occlusion of uPSB, the pathological bite force in temporomandibular joint would cause changes in the shape of the condyle. Among them, CV, CSA, SJS and AJS had significant changes in the scissors-bite status, which has the greatest damage to the posterior slope of the condyloid process.

RESUMO

Despite recent advances in enhancing photodynamic therapy efficacy, high-efficiency reactive oxygen species (ROS)-based therapy approach, especially in malignancy tumor treatment, remains challenging. Relieving the hypoxia of tumor tissue has been considered to be an attractive strategy for enhancing ROS-based treatment effect. Nevertheless, it is frequently neglected that the hypoxic regions are usually located deep in the tumors and therefore are usually inaccessible. To address these limitations, herein we constructed a sequential intercellular delivery system (MFLs/LAOOH@DOX) that consists of a membrane fusion liposomes (MFLs) doped with linoleic acid hydroperoxide (LAOOH) in the lipid bilayer and antitumor doxorubicin (DOX) encapsulated inside. In this report, LAOOH, one of the primary products of lipid peroxidation in vivo, was selected as ROS-generated agent herein, which depends on Fe2+ rather than oxygen and other external stimuli to produce ROS. Upon the enhanced permeation and retention effect, MFLs/LAOOH@DOX first fused with tumor cell membranes in the perivascular region in synchrony with selective delivery of LAOOH into the plasma membrane and the on-demand intracellular release of DOX. By hitchhiking with extracellular vesicles, LAOOH, as a cell membrane natural ingredient, spread gradually to neighboring cells and throughout the entire tumor eventually. Combined with subsequent administration of nano Fe3O4, ROS was specifically generated on the tumor cell membrane by LAOOH throughout the tumor tissues. This study offers a new method to enhance ROS-based antitumor treatment efficiency.

RESUMO

Environmentally friendly and non-toxic polylactic acid (PLA) foam has shown great application prospects in heat preservation, adsorption and other fields. However, it is still challenging to prepare high-expansion PLA foam. Herein, a cooling batch foaming process under supercritical CO2 (sc-CO2), based on pre-melted non-crystalline state, was proposed to prepare PLA foams with high expansion ratio. The CO2 dissolved in the polymer melt will lower the crystallization temperature of PLA. Due to the lack of crystallization, the foaming temperature of PLA can be reduced, which increases the CO2 saturation and helps foam. When foaming is triggered before crystallization, ultrahigh expansion foam can be produced. Based on pre-melting treatment, the maximum expansion ratio of PLA has reached 59.7-fold. At the same time, an open-pore structure is produced by this method, which can selectively absorb oil from water. In addition, the adsorption capacity of CCl4 reaches 15 g/g, and there is no significant attenuation in 20 adsorption-desorption cycles. This work provides a green, solvent-free method to prepare biodegradable oil-adsorbing foam.

RESUMO

More attention was paid to the attachment between microplastics and environmental pollutants. The adsorption performance of Polyethylene (PE) beads (a typical type of microplastics) and Cr(VI) ions with the existence of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) was investigated in this paper. The adsorption experiments of Cr(VI) ions by PE microplastics were conducted at different conditions, i.e. PE doses, pH and SDBS concentrations, respectively. The adsorption capability of Cr(VI) ions was increased from 0.39 to 1.36 mg⋅g-1 when the dosage of PE microplastics was increased from 2 to 14 g ⋅L-1 at pH of 5 with addition of SDBS, compared with increasing adsorption capability from 0.03 to 0.32 mg⋅g-1 without addition of SDBS. The pH would influence the adsorption capability with and without the addition of SDBS. When the pH was less than 6, the adsorption capability of Cr(VI) would be promoted by the addition of SDBS; however, there was a contrast tendency when the pH was more than 6, which was attributed to that SDBS would compete with CrO42- for occupying the adsorption sites of PE microplastic. The SDBS concentration would affect the adsorption performance of Cr(VI) ions onto PE microplastics. The peak of the adsorption capacity was at SDBS concentration between 1 and 1.5 mM. This research would provide a basis for investigating the influence of SDBS on adsorption performance of heavy metal by PE microplastics to simulate the surface attachment model of those three kinds of pollutants.
