STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Although polyvinyl siloxane (PVS) materials and polyether (PE) materials have been the recommended materials for making impressions for implant-supported fixed complete dentures (IFCDs), a consensus regarding the optimal impression materials has yet to be established. PURPOSE: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the effect of impression materials on the accuracy of conventional impressions for IFCDs and to provide guidance for selecting the optimal impression material. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase databases were searched and supplemented via hand searches. Studies comparing the accuracy of conventional impressions for IFCDs by using PVS and PE materials with either direct (open-tray) or indirect (closed-tray) techniques were included. Linear distance deviations and angular deviations between adjacent implants were evaluated. The mean difference (MD) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated for continuous data. A subgroup analysis was conducted to evaluate the impact of implant angulation (α=.05). RESULTS: Among the 597 publications identified, 27 in vitro studies were included for qualitative analysis, and 12 were included for quantitative analysis. The general analysis revealed no significant differences in linear distance and angular deviations between the 2 impression materials with the direct or indirect technique. The subgroup analysis found that a statistically significant difference in linear distance deviations was found when implants were placed at an angle greater than 15 degrees, favoring PE materials when using the direct technique (P=.010, MD: 32.54 µm; 95% CI: 6.83 to 58.24) and indirect technique (P=.020, MD: 138.15 µm, 95% CI: 19.17 to 257.13). However, only 2 relevant studies assessed the indirect technique. CONCLUSIONS: When providing IFCDs, conventional impressions obtained by using PVS and PE materials were found to have similar accuracy in most scenarios. PE materials yielded better outcomes when implants were placed at an angle greater than 15 degrees.

L_9(3~4) orthogonal experiment design was used to optimize the preparation of the patches,and investigate its affecting factors and skin irritation. Eugenol was taken as the index component to study the release behavior in vitro and percutaneous penetration of Cangai oil transfersomes patches by HPLC.The results showed that the optimal prescription for preparing Cangai oil transfersomes patches were Eudragit E100 0.6 g, succinic acid 0.08 g,triethyl citrate 0.25 g,glycerol 0.2 g.Patches prepared by the preferred preparation had a flat appearance without obvious bubbles.The initial adhesion was 18.33±2.52, the stickiness was(30.01±2.45) min,and the peel strength was(5.62±0.95) kN·m~(-1).The results of affecting factors experiment showed the order of factors affecting its adhesion was humidity>temperature>lighting,and the skin irritation test results showed no significant skin irritation after 24 h of single administration. The results of drug release behavior in vitro showed that the release and the percutaneous penetration of both Cangai oil patches and Cangai oil transfersomes patches conformed to the Higuchi equation.The release amount of eugenol were 80.66% and 82.25% at 72 h, with no significant difference. The cumulative permeation area of eugenol per unit area reached(0.195 6±0.065 9),(0.131 0±0.045 5) mg·cm~(-2) at 72 h, with significant differences(P<0.05).The experiment results proved that the preparation process of Cangai oil transfersomes patches was stable,and the prepared patches had a good adhesion. At the same time,the preparation of transfersomes patches could alleviate and control the release of the drug to a certain extent, and provide a certain experimental basis for clinical pediatric drug safety.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death among females worldwide. Among various types of breast cancer, the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-overexpressing breast cancer is known to be more aggressive and often resistant to medicinal treatment, leading to an insufficient prognosis and poor susceptibility to chemotherapy and/or hormonal therapy in the current clinic. These circumstances implicate that developing an improved therapeutic strategy rather than persistently changing the anticancer drugs for trying is truly needed to successfully cure this type of breast cancer. In this study, we aimed to fabricate anti-HER2 indocyanine green (ICG)-doxorubicin (DOX)-loaded polyethyleneimine-coated perfluorocarbon double nanoemulsions (HIDPPDNEs) to explore the co-administration of phototherapy and chemotherapy for HER2-overexpressing breast cancer in vitro. RESULTS: The HIDPPDNE was first characterized as a sphere-like nanoparticle with surface charge of -57.1 ± 5.6 mV and size of 340.6 ± 4.5 nm, whereas the DOX release rates for the nanodroplets within 48 h in 4 and 37 °C were obtained by 8.13 ± 2.46% and 19.88 ± 2.75%, respectively. We then examined the target-ability of the nanostructure and found that the adhesion efficiency of the HIDPPDNEs onto HER2+ MDA-MB-453 cells was threefold higher than the nanodroplets without anti-HER2 antibody, indicating that the HIDPPDNEs are the product with HER2 binding specificity. In comparison to freely dissolved ICG, the HIDPPDNEs conferred an enhanced thermal stability to the entrapped ICG, and were able to provide a comparable hyperthermia effect and markedly increased production of singlet oxygen under near infrared irradiation (808 nm; 6 W/cm2). Based on the viability analyses, the results showed that the HIDPPDNEs were effective on cell eradication upon near infrared irradiation (808 nm; 6 W/cm2), and the resulting cell mortality was even higher than that caused by using twice amount of encapsulated DOX or ICG alone. CONCLUSIONS: This work demonstrates that the HIDPPDNEs are able to provide improved ICG stability, binding specificity, and enhanced anticancer efficacy as compared to equal dosage of free ICG and/or DOX, showing a high potential for use in HER2 breast cancer therapy with reduced chemotoxicity.

PURPOSE: To systematically assess the influence of ambient light on the accuracy and scanning time of intraoral scanning. STUDY SELECTION: The present systematic review (CRD 42022346672) was registered at the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) and was performed based on the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020. Electronic searches were conducted using PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE, complemented by gray literature, references, and citations of the included studies. The primary outcome was accuracy, and the scanning time was a secondary outcome. Owing to the high heterogeneity, the pooled data were analyzed descriptively. RESULTS: Six in vitro and two in vivo experiments were performed. Three in vitro studies reported both the accuracy and scanning time of the intraoral scans, whereas the remaining studies exclusively evaluated the accuracy. The studies mainly investigated the influence of illumination levels (0-11000 lux) on intraoral scanning. Intraoral scans revealed optimal accuracy at 1000-lux illumination for complete-arch dentition scans, whereas the influence of illumination levels on 4-unit or shorter scans was not clinically significant. The intraoral scans obtained using confocal microscopy were less affected by the illumination levels than those obtained using the active triangulation technique. Furthermore, the scanning time tended to increase with increasing illumination. CONCLUSIONS: Evidently from the limited number of studies conducted, ambient light illumination had considerable influence on the accuracy and scanning time of intraoral scanning, which appeared to be related to the scanning range and imaging technology.

Homocysteine (Hcy) and cysteine (Cys) are two important kinds of amino acids in human bodies. Herein, we synthesized an iridium(III) complex-functionalized poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) and its hydrogel, which could be used as the excellent phosphorescent bioprobe for sensing Hcy and Cys. Their detection can be realized in aqueous system through the variations in absorption and photoluminescence spectra. Furthermore, living cell imaging experiments demonstrate that the phosphorescent bioprobe is membrane permeable and can monitor the changes of Hcy and Cys within living cells. In addition, the probe is also thermoresponsive, and its photoluminescence intensified with increasing temperature. These results suggests that this bioprobe has promising application in biomedical fields.

Background/purpose: Fixed prostheses are essential for restoring teeth with compromised structures. However, the margins of prosthesis potentially create an interface that interferes with proper cleaning. This study evaluated whether the fixed prosthesis placement influenced the clinical effectiveness of non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT). Materials and methods: Clinical records from 202 patients with generalized chronic periodontitis receiving NSPT at the National Taiwan University Hospital in 2012-2014 were included. The change and improvement ratio (IR) of clinical parameters following NSPT in the entire dentition or posterior region, and all or periodontitis-affected teeth/crowns (T/C) and sites were evaluated. The differences among natural teeth (NT), prosthetic crowns (PC), and abutments (AB) were compared by using Kruskal-Wallis tests followed by Dunn's post-hoc test. Results: Gingival recession (REC) was greater in PC and AB groups than in the NT group before NSPT, while tooth mobility was also lower in the AB group. REC gain was lower in the AB group after NSPT, while mobility reduction was inferior in the PC and AB groups for all or periodontitis-affected T/C and sites. In periodontitis-affected T/C, IRs in probing pocket depth reduction and clinical attachment gain were lower in the PC group, and mobility reduction was lower in the AB group. The tendency in the posterior region is similar but was less pronounced than in the entire dentition. Conclusion: The effectiveness of NSPT and the improvement of periodontal parameters are reduced when fixed prostheses present. MB reduction is inferior in AB teeth relative to NT.

PURPOSE: To compare the trueness and precision of different impression techniques for two-implant-supported fixed dental prostheses between extraoral and intraoral conditions at different locations. METHODS: Six volunteers participated in this study. A resin block with two parallel analogs was fabricated as an implant site simulator (ISS). The ISS was bonded to a molded ethylene vinyl acetate sheet to create a reference model. For each participant, four reference models were prepared based on the locations of the ISSs: maxillary posterior/anterior region (MaxP/MaxA) and mandibular posterior/anterior region (ManP/ManA). Five impressions were taken extraorally using the open-tray (conventional implant impression technique, CIT) and intraoral scanning (digital implant impression technique, DIT) techniques. The reference models were positioned in the participants' mouths, and impressions were obtained intraorally using the CIT and DIT. The interanalog distance (d) and angulation (θ) were measured to calculate trueness (Δd, Δθ) and precision (dP, θP). Two-way ANOVA and t tests were performed (α=0.05). RESULTS: For the DIT, under intraoral conditions, the Δd and Δθ in MaxP and Δθ in ManP were significantly higher than those under extraoral conditions. For the CIT, under intraoral conditions, the Δd and Δθ in ManA and ManP and Δθ in MaxP were significantly lower than those under extraoral conditions. No significant differences in the dP and θP of either DIT or CIT were observed between the two conditions. CONCLUSIONS: Intraoral conditions affected the trueness of DIT and CIT in different regions but had no influence on precision.

The development of near-infrared light responsive conductive polymers provides a useful theranostic platform for malignant tumors by maximizing spatial resolution with deep tissue penetration for diagnosis and photothermal therapy. Herein, the self-assembly of ultrathin 2D polypyrrole nanosheets utilizing dopamine as a capping agent and a monolayer of octadecylamine as a template is demonstrated. The 2D polypyrrole-polydopamine nanostructure has tunable size distribution which shows strong absorption in the first and second near-infrared windows, enabling photoacoustic imaging and photothermal therapy. The hybrid double-layer is demonstrated to increase Raman intensity for 3D Raman imaging (up to two orders of magnitude enhancement and spatial resolution up to 1 µm). The acidic environment drives reversible doping of polypyrrole, which can be detected by Raman spectroscopy. The combined properties of the nanosheets can substantially enhance performance in dual-mode Raman and photoacoustic guided photothermal therapy, as shown by the 69% light to heat conversion efficiency and higher cytotoxicity against cancer spheroids. These pH-responsive features highlight the potential of 2D conductive polymers for applications in accurate, highly efficient theranostics.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate the effects of splinting impression copings on the accuracy of conventional impressions for two-unit nonparallel implant restorations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: MEDLINE via PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched with no publication year or language limits, and studies comparing the accuracy of conventional impressions for two-unit nonparallel implant restorations made using splinted impression copings and nonsplinted impression copings were identified. A meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager software. The mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for the framework strain and marginal gap of the implant-framework connection between impressions using splinted and nonsplinted copings were statistically analyzed (α = .05). RESULTS: Initially, 142 articles were identified after the removal of duplicates. Five in vitro studies were included in the systematic review, and four in vitro studies were included in the meta-analysis. All the included studies were focused on internal-connection implants and implant-level impressions. The implant angulation in the included studies ranged from 8 to 30 degrees. Impressions using splinted impression copings exhibited significantly smaller marginal gaps than those using nonsplinted impression copings (P = .02; mean difference [MD] = -13.34; 95% CI = -24.31 to -2.36). Moreover, with respect to the framework strain, no significant differences were found between impressions using splinted impression copings and nonsplinted impression copings (P = .47; MD = -12.64; 95% CI = -47.32 to 22.03). CONCLUSIONS: Significantly larger marginal gaps were found in the impressions using splinted impression copings, but the clinical significance was low. Based on the limited number of studies included, splinting copings is unnecessary when making conventional impressions for two-unit nonparallel implant restorations.

Teeth with furcation involvement (FI) present a higher risk of loss and are difficult to maintain. This study evaluated the efficacy of furcation defect regeneration (FDR) as a regeneration strategy. Pre-operative and 6-month postoperative radiographs were collected from patients receiving regeneration therapy for mandibular teeth with degree II and early degree III FI. The linear furcation involvement (LFI), ratio of LFI (RLI), LFI and RLI adjusted bythe alveolar bone crest (ABC), and radiographic intensity were assessed. The effects of demographic characteristics, regeneration treatment strategies, the relationship between furcation and ABC, and adjacent intrabony defect regeneration (AIDR) were evaluated using a generalized linear model and logistic regression. The results demonstrated that 1.5 mm adjusted LFI and 40% adjusted RLI were achieved in both pure furcation defects and combined furcation-angular defects by the combination of bone replacement grafts (BRG) and enamel matrix derivatives (EMD) or collagen membrane (CM); deproteinized bovine bone matrix (DBBM) showed a superior outcome among BRG. In combined furcation-angular defects, EMD appeared more beneficial than CM, and AIDR significantly promoted adjusted LFI and RLI. In conclusion, DBBM with EMD or CM was effective for FDR, and AIDR had a positive effect on FDR in the combined furcation-angular defect.

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to introduce the evidence obtained through extensive research that periodontitis increases risk of many systemic diseases. METHOD: Analysis of some oral bacteria (P. gingivalis, T. denticola, T. forsythia, A. actinomycetemcomitans, and F. nucleatum) and its related treatments and mediators by the specific methods (western blot, ELISA, etc). RESULTS: This article reviews in detail the evidence obtained through extensive research that periodontitis increases risk of many systemic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and Alzheimer's disease. These diseases are known to be associated with some certain specific gram-negative bacteria as periodontal pathogens, which induce inflammation and related diseases through TLR receptors, kinases, transcriptional factors and other cytokines. We also reviewed the latest research for inhibitors against inflammation and related diseases that have potential to be further applied clinically. In addition, based on a large amount of research evidence, we draw two tables about the mechanism of disease caused by periodontal bacteria, so that readers can easily search and analyze these research results. DISCUSSION: This review details how the periodontal bacteria and their virulence factors can trigger host immune defense and induce many systemic diseases via inflammation and invasion. This Review also addressed the latest research around inhibitors against inflammation.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the correlation between diagnostic information of tongue and gastroscopy results of patients with chronic gastritis. METHODS: Frequent pattern growth (FP-Growth), SPSS Modeler was used to analyze the correlation rules between the image information of tongue parameters and the characteristics of the stomach and duodenum seen under gastroscopy. RESULTS: Ranking in order of confidence: cyanotic tongue, slippery fur, yellow fur and spotted tongue were sequently associated with both gastric antrum mucosal hyperemia or edema and gastric antrum mucosal erythema/macula. L, one value of tongue coating color, which counted among (30, 60), tooth-marked tongue and b, one value of tongue coating color, which counted in the range of (5, 20) were sequently associated with gastric antrum mucosal erythema /macula. A, one value of tongue body color, which counted in the range of (0, 20), was related to both gastric antrum mucosal hyperemia or edema and gastric antrum mucosal erythema /macula. a, one value of tongue coating color, which counted in the range of (15, 35), was associated with gastric antrum mucosal erythema / macula. There are a total of 9 strong correlation rules. CONCLUSIONS: Cyanotic tongue, slippery fur, yellow fur, the CIE Lab value of tongue coating, a, the value of tongue body color, spotted tongue, and tooth-marked tongue are all related to the gastric antrum mucosal hyperemia or edema and gastric antrum mucosal erythema / macula. The conditions of gastric mucosa could be predicted by the examination of the above related image information of tongue.

The safety problem of injections caused by clarity has lately become a widely shared concern. Due to the synthesis process, polysorbate 80 had a wide molecular weight distribution, which is also related to the clinical anaphylaxis. In this paper, ultrasonic-assisted ultrafiltration (UAU) technology was firstly applied to regulate colloidal structure and remove macromolecules from polysorbate 80 to improve injection clarity. In the separation process, ultrafiltration molecular weight cut off (MWCO), ultrasonic power and polysorbate 80 concentraion were selected as variables to adjust the separation efficiency. The ultrasonic frequency and power were provided by KQ-700DE ultrasonic system, based on the data analysis by response surface methodology (RSM), the optimal UAU parameters were as follows: ultrafiltration MWCO of 50,000, ultrasonic power of 900 W and polysorbate 80 concentration of 15.00 mg/mL. The experimental transmittance of polysorbate 80 was 87.6% and the qualification rate of clarity was 94.5%, which solved the separation contradiction among yield, clarity and safety. As an innovation in colloidal separation fields, UAU had a vast range of prospects for making use in pharmaceutical area.

Aimed to investigate the characteristics of CS-induced membrane in comparison with the PMMA-induced membrane. Cellular components, histological changes, growth factor expressions of IL-6, VEGF, BMP-2, and TGF-ß1 in the two induced membranes were compared at 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks, respectively. We also compared the histological changes at the bone defects between CS and PMMA groups. The structural characteristics of induced membrane were similar between CS and PMMA. Endochondral ossification took place in the CS-induced membrane at 8 week. Levels of VEGF, BMP-2 and TGF-ß1 in CS-induced membrane were insignificantly higher than those in PMMA-induced membrane at different time points. The expression of IL-6 was significantly higher in PMMA-induced membranes at 2nd week. In addition, osteogenic and neovascular activities of induced membranes increased with time and peaked at 6 weeks. CS promoted endochondral ossification at the broken ends of the bone defect than PMMA did. CS-induced membrane has a better capacity of generating VEGF, BMP-2 and TGF-ß1.osteogenic and neovascular activities achieve highest level at 6 week. RESUMO

Flexible threadlike supercapacitors with improved performance are needed for many wearable electronics applications. Here, we report a high performance flexible asymmetric all-solid-state threadlike supercapacitor with a NiCo2 Se4 positive electrode and a NiCo2 O4 @PPy (PPy: polypyrrole) negative electrode. The as-prepared electrodes display outstanding volume specific capacitance (14.2 F cm-3 ) and excellent cycling performance (94 % retention after 5000 cycles at 0.6 mA) owing to their nanosheet and nanosphere structures. The asymmetric all-solid-state threadlike supercapacitor expanded the stability voltage window from 0-1.0 V to 0-1.7 V and exhibits high volume energy density (5.18 mWh cm-3 ) and superior flexibility under different bending conditions. This study provides a scalable method for fabricating high performance flexible supercapacitors from easily available materials for use in wearable and portable electronics.

Background. Short-lasting unilateral neuralgiform headache with conjunctival injection and tearing (SUNCT) syndrome is an unusual cause of headache, mainly described in older adults, and is rare in children. Pain attacks may be severe, frequent, and prolonged. The therapeutic benefits of many drugs are disappointing. Patient and Methods. A 12-year-old boy suffered severe headache and toothache for 20 days. As treatment with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, anticonvulsants, and steroids proved ineffective, he was treated with ipsilateral multisite subcutaneous injections of botulinum toxin A 70 U around the orbit, the temporal area, and the upper gum. Results. The pain had reduced in frequency and severity by the fourth day after treatment and had completely disappeared after 7 days. There were no side effects or recurrence during a subsequent 17-month follow-up period. Conclusion. Botulinum toxin A can be used to treat the first episode of SUNCT in children over the age of 12 years.

Periodontal pathogens and/or inflammatory products from periodontitis participate in the development or progression of systemic diseases. In this context, periodontitis acts as a modifying factor to systemic health, including diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Osteoporosis is an increasingly prevalent condition in our aging population and considered a risk factor for periodontal disease, but the effect of periodontitis on systemic bone homeostasis is unknown. We thus evaluated the effects of experimental periodontitis (EP) on systemic bone loss and the influence of estrogen deficiency in this context, using a mouse model of combined periodontitis and osteoporosis. Experimental periodontitis (EP) was induced by a ligature insertion around the mandibular first molars and Porphyromonas gingivalis infection. Three-dimensional microcomputed tomographic analyses performed 48days following infection revealed that EP and ovariectomy (OVX) induced a significantly higher femoral and mandibular bone loss compared to EP or OVX alone. EP alone did not induce systemic bone loss. In addition, the EP+OVX and EP groups showed significantly higher levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α than OVX and control groups at end point. These results suggest that periodontitis could be a risk factor for systemic bone loss, especially in post-menopausal women, and warrant further clinical investigations to confirm this association and propose adapted prophylactic and curative therapies.

A new type of colored complex, the charge transfer complex, was used to develop the spectrophotometric determination of copper. The method was based on the formation of a colored product, the charge transfer complex of copper substituted tungstophosphate with 3,3',5,5'-tetramethybenzidine (TMB), which was stabilized and sensitized by the addition of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) in aqueous solution. The structure of copper substituted tungstophosphate was Keggin-type according to the results of infrared (IR) spectra. The optimum reaction conditions and other important analytic parameters had been investigated. Beer's law was obeyed in the copper(II) concentration range of 0.003-0.1 microg mL(-1), and the molar absorptivity at 660 nm is 2.54 x 10(5) L mol(-1) cm(-1). The proposed method was simple, selective, and sensitive. It was applied to the analytic samples with satisfactory results.

RESUMO

A new approach is presented to control cell attachment behavior on biocompatible substrates. Multiple layers of polylactic acid (PLA) were inkjet-printed on dry alginate films to create composite surfaces with rigidity variation. The printed films were submerged in cell culture medium and fibroblast 3T3-L1 cells were cultured on the printed films. 3T3-L1 cells were found to preferentially adhere on PLA surfaces with higher rigidity. The same approach was also used to create various cell attachment patterns. This study provides a new methodology to fabricate biodegradable matrix for favorable cell adhesion or patterning.
