RESUMO

In this paper, the modified coal cinders and zeolite powders in proportion of 2:1 were mixed with modified polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) with a ratio of 20:1 (w/v) to make a new sorbent and biological carrier-the coal cinder-zeolite balls (CCZBs). The maximum absorption capacities of ammonia nitrogen and Chemical Oxygen Demand (CODCr) on CCZBs, adsorption process were evaluated in batch experiments. And then they were combined with reed wetland for bioremediation of micro-polluted aquaculture water in estuarine wetlands. The results showed that the removal efficiencies of ammonia nitrogen and CODCr improved with the decrease in water inflow and increase in inflow concentrations. Efficiencies of 67.3% and 71.3% for ammonia nitrogen and CODCr under water flow of 10 L/h were obtained when their inflow concentrations were 1.77 and 56.0 mg/L respectively. This strategy can be served as a model system for bioremediation in situ of aquaculture water and other organic polluted or eutrophic water.

RESUMO

Anti-angiogenic therapies targeting inhibition of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) pathway show clinical benefit in hypervascular hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tumors. However, HCC expresses massive pro-angiogenic factors in the tumor microenvironment (TME) in response to anti-angiogenic therapy, recruiting tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), leading to revascularization and tumor progression. To regulate cell types in TME and promote the therapeutic efficiency of anti-angiogenic therapy, a supramolecular hydrogel drug delivery system (PLDX-PMI) co-assembled by anti-angiogenic nanomedicines (PCN-Len nanoparticles (NPs)) and oxidized dextran (DX), and loaded with TAMs-reprogramming polyTLR7/8a nanoregulators (p(Man-IMDQ) NRs) is developed for orthotopic liver cancer therapy. PCN-Len NPs target tyrosine kinases of vascular endothelial cells and blocked VEGFR signaling pathway. p(Man-IMDQ) NRs repolarize pro-angiogenic M2-type TAMs into anti-angiogenic M1-type TAMs via mannose-binding receptors, reducing the secretion of VEGF, which further compromised the migration and proliferation of vascular endothelial cells. On highly malignant orthotopic liver cancer Hepa1-6 model, it is found that a single administration of the hydrogel formulation significantly decreases tumor microvessel density, promotes tumor vascular network maturation, and reduces M2-subtype TAMs, thereby effectively inhibiting tumor progression. Collectively, findings in this work highlight the great significance of TAMs reprogramming in enhancing anti-angiogenesis treatment for orthotopic HCC, and provides an advanced hydrogel delivery system-based synergistic approach for tumor therapy.

RESUMO

Two cases of brown tumor of the humerus caused by ectopic parathyroid adenomas were presented, which to our knowledge has not been previously documented in the international literature. There are two highlights in these two cases. First, brown tumors of the long bones may commonly involve femur and tibia, rarely involve humerus in association with primary hyperparathyroidism. Second, ectopic parathyroid adenomas of our patient had an unusual location of this disorder. We explored the role of ultrasound, MIBI scintigraphy as well as FNAB (fine needle aspiration biopsy) in diagnosis of brown tumor especially simultaneously occurrence of ectopic parathyroid adenomas and the importance of a thorough diagnostic work-up. The contemporary diagnosis and treatment options will be emphasized.

RESUMO

A brown tumor is a non-neoplasm mainly caused by hyperparathyroidism. It often occurs in the pelvis, ribs, long bone shaft, clavicle, and jaw. We introduce three cases of primary hyperparathyroidism, with the first symptom of brown tumor of the ribs, and discuss the image characteristics within the literature. We then propose the value of ultrasound in the diagnosis of brown tumor.

RESUMO

The biofilm process using a new-type elasticity plastic filler was adopted in a typical polluted stream entering the Tai Lake (the Linzhuanggang). The experiments at pilot scale ran for about 0.5 years. Results show the average removal percentage of permanganate index by biofilm attached to the elasticity plastic filler is about 5.4%, the biggest removal percentage is 9.9%, the average removal percentage of NH(4+) -N is approximately 5.35%-39.91%, the biggest removal percentage of TP is 28.6%. And the bacteriological experimental results show there is the same change laws between the removal percentage of permanganate index and the numbers of heterotrophic bacteria; the numbers of ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB) are matching with removal of NH(4+) -N.
