BACKGROUND: Due to the relative rarity of malignant sublingual gland tumors, diagnosing and treating them clinically pose challenges. Hence, there's a need to explore the pathological types, characteristics, treatment methods, and prognosis of primary malignant tumors of the sublingual gland to improve our understanding and management of these rare yet highly malignant conditions. METHODS: This study reviewed cases of primary malignant sublingual gland tumors, analyzing their characteristics. The treatment methods included surgical excision, with additional radiotherapy, or brachytherapy for advanced stages or positive surgical margins. The study also summarized different treatment approaches, including lymph node dissection and soft tissue reconstruction using free flaps such as the anterolateral thigh flap and forearm flap. RESULTS: We have gathered 23 cases of sublingual gland malignancies treated at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School and Hospital of Stomatology, Wuhan University, from January 2013 to May 2024. The most common pathological types were adenoid cystic carcinoma and mucoepidermoid carcinoma, with rare cases of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma and nonspecific salivary gland clear cell carcinoma. Early diagnosis and surgical intervention were crucial for a favorable prognosis. Marginal mandibulectomy was necessary for cases involving the mandible. Patients with positive preoperative lymph node detection required cervical lymph node dissection. Extensive tissue defects in the floor of the mouth were effectively reconstructed with free flaps to prevent oral-mandibular fistula. CONCLUSION: Surgical excision remains the preferred treatment for malignant sublingual gland tumors. Early diagnosis and comprehensive surgical management are essential for improving prognosis. The study's limitations include a small sample size and short follow-up duration, necessitating further research with larger clinical samples to confirm these findings.

ABSTRACT: The calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor (CEOT) is a rare benign odontogenic tumor, which usually presents with distension of affected tissues. Radiologically, the lesions are often associated with an unerupted tooth and may have spot calcification shadows. The authors report a case of a CEOT in a 48-year-old male involving the right mandibular jaw bone and mentum soft tissues. The authors performed hemimandibulectomy and enucleation followed by reconstruction of the mandible using a vascularized free fibular flap through a digital surgical technique in order to restore the patient's facial symmetry and prepare the area for functional restorations. The case illustrates who the free fibular flap graft can be used for satisfactory mandibular reconstruction and restoration of the morphology and functions.

OBJECTIVE: The unique GH5 cellulase, AgCMCase, from Aspergillus glaucus CCHA was identified and characterized as having high cellulose and straw hydrolysis activities that were thermostable, pH stable and salt-tolerant. Therefore, it is a potential straw-degradation enzyme that can release reducing sugars in industrial applications. To increase the efficiency of the AgCMCase' hydrolysis of straw to release simple sugars, response surface methodology (RSM) was introduced to optimize hydrolysis parameters such as pH, temperature, reaction time and enzyme dose. RESULTS: The enzyme showed only one major protein band from the fermentation broth by the Pichia pastoris GS115 expression. The crude enzyme (without purification) showed a satisfactory capability to hydrolyze CMC-Na after 4 days of production. Here, the crude AgCMCase also showed cellulose and straw hydrolysis capabilities as assessed by scanning electron microscopic and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopic analyses. A high-performance liquid chromatographic analysis demonstrated that the degradation of corn and rice straw by crude AgCMCase mainly produced glucose and cellobiose. Temperature, reaction time and enzyme dose were the significant variables affecting corn and rice straw degradation. After the optimization of RSM, a model was proposed to predict 1.48% reducing sugar yield with the optimum temperature (51.45 °C) and reaction time (3.84 h) from the straw degradation. The reaction of crude AgCMCase and rice straw in the optimized condition resulted in reducing sugar production of 1.61% that agrees the prediction. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that the crude AgCMCase is suitable to be used in straw conversion.

Cistanche tubulosa is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine that is widely used to regulate immunity, and phenylethanol glycosides (CPhGs) are among the primary components responsible for this activity. However, the application of CPhGs is negatively affected by their poor absorption and low oral utilization. Targeted drug delivery is an important development direction for pharmaceutics. Previous studies have indicated that CPhGs could block the conduction of the signaling pathways in TGF-ß1/smad and inhibit the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-hepatic fibrosis effect of CPhG liposomes by inhibiting HSC activation, promoting apoptosis, blocking the cell cycle, suppressing the conduction of signaling pathways in focal adhesion kinase(FAK)/phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase(PI3K)/protein kinase B(Akt), and determining their in vitro hepatoprotective activity. In vitro release studies demonstrated that CPhG liposomes have a sustained release effect compared to drug CPhGs. HSC proliferation was inhibited after treatment with the CPhG liposomes (29.45, 14.72, 7.36 µg/mL), with IC50 values of 42.54 µg/mL in the MTT assay. Different concentrations of the CPhG liposomes could inhibit HSC proliferation, promote apoptosis, and block the cell cycle. The MTT method showed an obvious inhibition of HSC proliferation after CPhG liposome and Recombinant Rat Platelet-derived growth factor-BB(rrPDGF-BB) treatment. The levels of collagen-1, metallopeptidase inhibitor 1 (TIMP-1), α smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), and phosphorylated PI3K/Akt were downregulated, and matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) was upregulated, by pretreatment with different concentrations of CPhG liposomes. Moreover, 29.45 µg/mL of CPhG liposomes could decrease the expression of the FAK protein and the phosphorylated PI3K and Akt protein downstream of FAK by overexpression of the FAK gene. This experiment suggests that CPhG liposomes may inhibit the activation of HSCs by inhibiting FAK and then reducing the expression of phosphorylated Akt/PI3K, thereby providing new insights into the application of CPhGs for liver fibrosis.

Identifying the fouling degree of a membrane bioreactor (MBR) provides guidance on the determination of suitable membrane cleaning methods. There is still a lack of knowledge on the effects of powdered activated carbon (PAC) refresh ratio on the MBR fouling mechanism. Major fouling mechanisms of an MBR with constant flow rate at different PAC replenishment ratios were investigated by individual and combined mechanistic fouling models. The root mean square errors were employed to assess the prediction accuracy of the used fouling models. The combined models showed better prediction. The cake-complete model provided far better fits of the transmembrane pressure data, and provided good fits of other individual model predictions regardless of the PAC refreshment ratio. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy confirmed that the cake layer clogging was the main fouling mechanism followed by complete blockage and standard plugging. The cake-complete model may be used to predict the fouling mechanisms in PAC/MBR systems.

Soda saline-alkaline lands are significantly harmful to agriculture; thus, effective strategies to remediate such soil are urgently needed. Multiple negative factors exist in the community structure of saline-alkaline fields, among which the lack of fungal species diversity remains the most prominent problem. The haloalkaliphilic fungi are a unique group of extremophiles that grow optimally under conditions of extreme salinity and alkalinity; these fungi, which buffer salinity and alkalinity by absorbing and/or constraining salt ions, produce organic acids and/or macromolecules, secrete macromolecules such as cellulose degradation enzymes, and provide biomass that is beneficial for soil health. Considering that haloalkaliphilic fungi are a valuable genetic resource of resistance and degradation genes, these fungi are expected to be applied in biotechnology. Aspergillus glaucus exhibits high resistance to a variety of stressors and the ability to degrade crop straw; and it is a practical genetic tool that can be used to identify and validate genes involved in abiotic stress resistance and cellulose decomposition genes. This review will focus on the following aspects: isolation of extreme haloalkaliphilic fungi, fungal genes involved in salt and alkalinity resistance, macromolecule degrading enzymes, applications for genetic improvement of haloalkaliphilic fungi, and application of haloalkaliphilic fungi in saline-alkali soil mycoremediation.

In a halotolerant fungus Aspergillus glaucus CCHA, several functional proteins with stress-tolerant activity have been studied, but no secretory enzymes have been identified yet. The unique GH5 cellulase candidate from A. glaucus, an endoglucanase termed as AgCMCase, was cloned, expressed in the Pichia pastoris system and the purified enzyme was characterized. A large amount of recombinant enzyme secreted by the P. pastoris GS115 strain was purified to homogeneity. The molecular weight of the purified endoglucanase is about 55.0 kDa. The AgCMCase exhibited optimum catalytic activity at pH 5.0 and 55 °C. However, it remained relatively stable at temperatures ranging from 45 to 80 °C and pH ranging from 4.0 to 9.0. In addition, it showed higher activity at extreme NaCl concentrations from 1.0 to 4.0 M, suggesting it is an enzyme highly stable under heat, acid, alkaline and saline conditions. To evaluate the catalytic activity of AgCMCase, the hydrolysis products of rice and corn straws were successfully studied. In conclusion, the AgCMCase is a thermostable and salt-tolerant cellulase with potential for industrial application.

BACKGROUND: Poor endosomal release is a major barrier of polyplex-mediated gene transfection. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are commonly used to improve polyethylenimine (PEI)-mediated gene transfection by increasing endosomal release. In the present study, we designed novel pH-sensitive peptides that highly enhance transfection efficiency compared to their parent peptides. METHODS: Two analogues of melittin (Mel) and RV-23 (RV) were synthesized by replacing the positively-charged residues in their sequences with glutamic acid residues. The pH-sensitive lysis ability of the peptides, the effect of the peptides on physicochemical characteristics, the intracellular trafficking, the transfection efficiency, and the cytotoxicity of the polyplexes were determined. RESULTS: The acidic peptides showed pH-sensitive lytic activity. The hemolytic activity of acidic peptides at pH 5.0 was higher than that at pH 7.4. The incorporation of acidic peptides did not affect the DNA binding ability of PEI but affected the physicochemical characteristics of the PEI/DNA polyplexes, which may be beneficial for endosomal release and gene transfection. The incorporation of acidic peptides into PEI/DNA polyplexes enhanced the PEI-mediated transfection efficiency corresponding to up to 42-fold higher luciferase activity compared to that of PEI alone. CONCLUSIONS: The results of the present study indicate that replacement of positively-charged residues with glutamic acid residues in the AMP sequence yields pH-sensitive peptides, which enhance the transfection efficiency of PEI/DNA polyplexes in various cell lines.

Chiral variants of the prototypal metal-organic framework MOF-5, Λ-CMOF-5 and Δ-CMOF-5, have been synthesized by preparing MOF-5 in the presence of L-proline or D-proline, respectively. CMOF-5 crystallizes in chiral space group P213 instead of Fm3̅m as exhibited by MOF-5. The phase purity of CMOF-5 was validated by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, N2 adsorption, microanalysis, and solid-state vibrational circular dichroism. CMOF-5 undergoes a reversible single crystal-to-single crystal phase change to MOF-5 when immersed in a variety of organic solvents, although N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) does not induce loss of chirality. Indeed, MOF-5 undergoes chiral induction when immersed in NMP, affording racemic CMOF-5.

The abilities to form biofilms on teeth surface and to metabolize a wide range of carbohydrates are key virulence attributes of Streptococcus mutans. ClpP has been proved to play an important role in biofilm development in streptococci. Here we demonstrated that ClpP was involved in biofilm formation of S. mutans. ClpP inactivation resulted in enhanced biofilm formation or initial cell adherence in broth supplemented with sucrose, while reduced in broth supplemented with glucose or fructose. Our results also indicated that the enhanced capacities of biofilm formation and initial cell adherence were achieved through regulating the expression of a number of extracellular sucrose-metabolizing enzymes, such as glucosyltransferases (GTFB and GTFC) at early-exponential growth phase and fructosyltransferase at late-exponential growth phase in the presence of sucrose.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical efficacy of combination therapy with peg-IFNalpha and adefovir (CPIA) in women who were hepatfis B virus (HBV) carriers and had just given birth and received telbivudine (LdT) during pregnancy for prevention of mother-to-child transmission. METHODS: One-hundred-and-fifty third trimester-pregnant women who were HBV carriers with highly-viremic were treated with LdT until time of birth. After delivery, those women with alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level exceeding two times the upper limit of normal and HBV DNA level that had decreased more than 31 gIU/mL or hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) titer that had decreased more than 50% were switched to CPIA for 96 weeks. RESULTS: Following delivery, 45 of the women were switched to the CPIA treatment, of which 91.1% (41/45) achieved virological response, 55.6% (25/45) achieved HBeAg clearance or seroconversion, and 26.7% (12/45) achieved hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) clearance or seroconversion.The immediate post-delivery (and pre-CPIA) levels of HBeAg and HBV DNA were negatively associated with HBeAg clearance. Ninety-eight of the total study participants stopped the LdT treatment and there were no cases of significant deterioration of liver function. CONCLUSION: Pregnant women who are HBV carriers and receive LdT for protection against mother-to-child transmission, and who show significant ALT elevation and decreased HBeAg titer and/or reduced HBV DNA after delivery, may be good candidates for the CPIA therapy following delivery.

Thin organic films containing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have received increasing attention in many fields. In this study, a robust thin superhydrophobic film has been created by using layer-by-layer assembly of the carbon nanotubes wrapped by poly(dopamine) (CNT@PDA) and poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI). UV-vis spectroscopy, ellipsometry, and quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) measurements confirmed that the sequential deposition of PEI and CNT@PDA resulted in a linear growth of the (PEI-CNT@PDA) film. This thin film contained as much as 77 wt% CNTs. Moreover, a very stable and flexible free-standing (PEI-CNT@PDA) film could be obtained by employing cellulose acetate (CA) as a sacrificial layer. The film could even withstand ultrasonication in saturated SDS aqueous solution for 30 min. SEM observations indicated that the ultrathin film consisted of nanoscale interpenetrating networks of entangled CNTs and exhibited a very rough surface morphology. The (PEI-CNT@PDA) film turned superhydrophobic after being coated with a low-surface-energy compound. The superhydrophobic films showed excellent resistance against the adhesion of both platelets and Escherichia coli (E. coli). The (PEI-CNT@PDA) films and the proposed methodology may find applications in the area of medical devices to reduce device-associated thrombosis and infection.

Abilities to tolerate environmental stresses and to form biofilms on teeth surface are key virulence attributes of Streptococcus mutans, the primary causative agent of human dental caries. ClpP, the chief intracellular protease of S. mutans, along with ATPases degrades altered proteins that might be toxic for bacteria, and thus plays important roles in stress response. To further understand the roles of ClpP in stress response of S. mutans, a ClpP deficient strain was constructed and used for general stress tolerance, autolysis, mutacins production, and virulence assays. Here, we demonstrated that inactivation of ClpP in S. mutans resulted in a sensitive phenotype to several environmental stresses, including acid, cold, thermal, and oxidative stresses. The ClpP deficient strain displayed slow growth rates, poor growth yields, formation of long chains, increased clumping in broth, and reduced capacity to form biofilms in presence of glucose. Mutacins production and autolysis of S. mutans were also impaired by mutation of clpP. Animals study showed that clpP mutation increased virulence of S. mutans but not significant. However, enhanced abilities to survive lethal acid and to form biofilm in sucrose were observed in ClpP deficient strain. Our findings revealed a broad impact of ClpP on several virulence properties of S. mutans and highlighted the relevance of ClpP proteolysis with progression of diseases caused by S. mutans.

Gingival squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the posterior mandible often requires marginal resection of the mandible in conventional surgery. However, the posterior location of the lesion can limit surgical visibility, which is critical for complete tumor removal and minimizing recurrence. Typically, marginal resection of the posterior mandible is achieved through a midline lower lip incision and mental nerve transection, providing adequate exposure but resulting in nerve damage, lip numbness, and facial scarring. In this paper, we describe a case using a submandibular incision for neck dissection, extending from the mandibular angle to the mental foramen, to fully expose the posterior mandible. The intraoral incision, extending 1 cm beyond the tumor margin, connected with the submandibular incision. Under direct vision, we performed a marginal resection of the mandible, preserving the inferior alveolar neurovascular bundle and the mental nerve, and maintaining at least 1 cm of the inferior mandibular margin. This technique achieved complete tumor removal while preserving mental nerve function and lower lip integrity, reducing surgical difficulty and patient trauma. This approach maintains nerve function and aesthetics as much as possible, with a faster postoperative recovery. In treating gingival SCC of the posterior mandible, it is essential to preserve surrounding healthy tissue and critical anatomical structures, minimizing postoperative complications while ensuring complete tumor resection.

PURPOSE: To investigate the efficacy of a modified maxillary protraction appliance in patients of skeletal Class Ⅲ with crowding. METHODS: Forty patients with skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion were divided into two groups, with 20 patients in each group. The experimental group had molar in a neutral or distal relationship and applied a modified maxillary protraction appliance, while the control group had molar mesial relationship and applied a conventional maxillary protraction appliance. Lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken before and after treatment in both groups for comparison. SPSS 22.0 software package was used for data analysis. RESULTS: The angle measurements taken before and after treatment showed a significant increase in SNA, ANB, SN-MP and U4-SN(P<0.01), while SNB decreased(P<0.01) in both groups. SN-OL changes were statistically different before and after treatment in the experimental group(P<0.05). The sagittal measurements before and after treatment in both groups showed significant alterations in all(P<0.05) but the length of the maxillary arch in both groups. For vertical measurements, U1-PP, L1-MP, U4-SN, U6-SN, and ANS-ME all increased (P<0.05), while the changes of U4-PP and U6-PP in the two groups before and after treatment were statistically different(P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the experimental group had a significantly increased maxillary arch length, a more remote location at U6, and a less variable molar relationship after treatment(P<0.01). The two groups showed a variable amount of cephalometric measurements before and after treatment: the experimental group had a significant increase in maxillary arch length, a more remote position at U6, and a smaller change in molar relationship compared to the control group(P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The modified maxillary protraction appliance showed good results for maxillary protraction and pushing the molar distally in patients with skeletal Class Ⅲ with crowding at neutral or distal molar relationship.

Corneal damage contributes to blindness in millions of people. Simulating natural corneas with artificial corneas is challenging due to material and manufacturing limitations, including poor mechanical properties, complex manufacturing processes, and ocular histocompatibility. In this study, electrospun micro-nanofibrous decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) is combined with digital light processing 3D bioprinting and validated as a bioartificial cornea for the first time. Electrospinning gives the material a controllable shape, and the electrospun micro-nanofibrous dECM, with preserved inherent biochemical components, can better mimic the natural ECM native microenvironment. An efficient platform can be developed for creating novel structural materials, when combined with intelligent manufacturing. Artificial biological corneas developed using this method showed five-fold improvements in mechanical properties (248.5 ± 35.67 kPa vs. 56.91 ± 3.68 kPa,p< 0.001), superior guidance for cell organization and adhesion, and better maintenance of the cellular phenotype of keratocytes. In animal studies,in vivotransplantation of this artificial cornea showed better regeneration, which accelerated corneal epithelialization and maintained corneal transparency. This method has potential for biomedical applications, and bioartificial corneas manufactured by this method have ideal properties as an alternative to lamellar keratoplasty, with promise for clinical transformation.

A single-laboratory validation study was conducted using HPLC for detecting and quantifying acetic acid, furfural, and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) in corncob hydrolysates. A pretreatment procedure using dilute sulfuric acid was optimized for corncob hydrolysis. The final hydrolysates were analyzed by HPLC using a C18 RP column with aqueous 0.01% (v/v) H2SO4-CH3OH (95 + 5) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1 mL/min. The wavelengths for detecting the three compounds were changed to their optimal UV detection wavelengths at the time of elution. The wavelength detection adjustments were as follow: 205 nm (0 to 4 min); 284 nm (4 to 7 min); and 276 nm (7 to 10 min). Separation was achieved with a chromatographic run time of 10 min. The calibration curves for the three compounds had correlation coefficients (r2) > or = 99.8%. The analytical range, as defined by the calibration curves, was 0.5-10 mg/L for acetic acid, 0.4-22 mg/L for furfural, and 0.1-18 mg/L for HMF. The LODs for acetic acid, furfural, and HMF were estimated to be 0.05, 0.03, and 0.02 mg/L, respectively; the LOQs were 0.196, 0.135, and 0.074 mg/L, respectively. The RSD values for the intraday precision study ranged from 0.31 to 2.22%, and from 0.57 to 2.43% for the interday study. The mean recovery rates in all compounds were between 100.08 and 101.49%.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of reconstructing inferior alveolar nerve and preserving the sensation of lower lip and chin in repairing mandibular defect by simultaneous neuralized iliac bone flap. METHODS: Patients with continuous mandibular defects requiring reconstruction were randomly assigned to the innervated(IN) group and the control(CO) group by random number table. In the IN group, the deep circumflex iliac artery and recipient vessels were anastomosed microscopically during mandible reconstruction, and the ilioinguinal nerve(IN), mental nerve(MN) and inferior alveolar nerve(IAN) were anastomosed at the same time. In the CO group, only vascular anastomosis was performed without nerve reconstruction. During the operation, the nerve electrical activity after nerve anastomosis was detected by nerve monitor, and the sensory recovery of lower lip was recorded by two-point discrimination(TPD), current perception threshold (CPT) and Touch test sensory evaluator(TTSE) test. SPSS 26.0 software package was used for data analysis. RESULTS: According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 20 patients were included, with 10 patients in each group. All the flaps survived in both groups, and no serious complications such as flap crisis occurred, and no obvious complications occurred in the donor site. The results of TPD test, CPT test and TTSE test all indicated that the degree of postoperative hypoesthesia in the IN group was less(P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Simultaneous nerve anastomosis vascularized iliac bone flap can effectively preserve the feeling of lower lip and improve the postoperative quality of life of patients. It is a safe and effective technique.

PURPOSE: To explore the value of metronidazole combined with minocycline in reducing infection after dental implant in patients with localized periodontitis. METHODS: A total of 120 patients with localized periodontitis who underwent dental implantation in the Department of Stomatological, Shanghai Pudong New Area People's Hospital from August 2021 to September 2022 were selected. According to the way of postoperative infection prevention, the patients were divided into control group and experimental group, with 60 patients in each group. The control group was orally given roxithromycin capsules, and the experimental group was locally coated with minocycline hydrochloride ointment and metronidazole gel. The incidence of postoperative infection and complications was compared between the two groups. The modified gingival creval bleeding index (mSBI), periodontal probing depth (PD) and modified plaque index (mPLI) of the patients were examined by periodontal probe. Serum C-reactive protein (CRP) level was determined by immunoturbidimetry and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and interleukin-6(IL-6) level was determined by ELISA. SPSS 25.0 software package was used for statistical analysis of the data. RESULTS: Good healing rate of the experimental group was 91.67% higher than that of the control group 73.33%, postoperative infection rate was 8.33% and complication rate was 6.67% in the experimental group, significantly lower than that of the control group (26.67% and 20.00%), respectively (P<0.05). After treatment, the level of CRP, TNF-α and IL-6 in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). At 3 and 6 months after treatment, mSBI, mPLI and PD in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The administration of minocycline hydrochloride and metronidazole in patients with localized periodontitis undergoing implantation can reduce oral inflammatory response, reduce postoperative infection and other complications, and improve periodontal health.

Biomimetic mineralization based on self-assembly has made great progress, providing bottom-up strategies for the construction of new organic-inorganic hybrid materials applied in the treatment of hard tissue defects. Herein, inspired by the cooperative effects of key components in biomineralization microenvironments, a new type of biocompatible peptide scaffold based on flexibly self-assembling low-complexity protein segments (LCPSs) containing phosphate or phosphonate groups is developed. These LCPSs can retard the transformation of amorphous calcium phosphate into hydroxyapatite (HAP), leading to merged mineralization structures. Moreover, the application of phosphonated LCPS over phosphorylated LCPS can prevent hydrolysis by phosphatases that are enriched in extracellular mineralization microenvironments. After being coated on the etched tooth enamel, these LCPSs facilitate the growth of HAP to generate new enamel layers comparable to the natural layers and mitigate the adhesion of Streptococcus mutans. In addition, they can effectively stimulate the differentiation pathways of osteoblasts. These results shed light on the potential biomedical applications of two LCPSs in hard tissue repair.
