RESUMEN

Although transition-metal nitrides have been widely applied for several decades, experimental investigations of their high-resolution electronic band structures are rare due to the lack of high-quality single-crystalline samples. Here, we report on the first momentum-resolved electronic band structures of titanium nitride (TiN) films, which are remarkable nitride superconductors. The measurements of the crystal structures and electrical transport properties confirmed the high quality of these films. More importantly, from a combination of high-resolution angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy and first-principles calculations, the extracted Coulomb interaction strength of TiN films can be as large as 8.5 eV, whereas resonant photoemission spectroscopy yields a value of 6.26 eV. These large values of Coulomb interaction strength indicate that superconducting TiN is a strongly correlated system. Our results uncover the unexpected electronic correlations in transition-metal nitrides, potentially providing a perspective not only to understand their emergent quantum states but also to develop their applications in quantum devices.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to systematically review and quantitatively analyse the clinical outcomes of combined derotational distal femoral osteotomy (D-DFO) and medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFL-R) in the treatment of recurrent patellar dislocation (RPD) with increased femoral anteversion angle (FAA). METHODS: This study was performed in line with PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) and AMSTAR (Assessing the Methodological Quality Of Systematic Reviews) Guidelines. PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane Library databases were searched to identify studies reporting clinical outcomes of combined D-DFO and MPFL-R in RPD patients with increased FAA. Data on patient-reported outcome measures, radiological parameters, patellar tracking as revealed by J-sign and complications were extracted based on the inclusion criteria. The Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Study score was used for quality assessment. Review Manager and R statistical software were used to perform the statistical analysis. RESULTS: Eleven studies with a total of 569 knees in 553 patients were included. Patients were predominantly female (79%). The weighted mean of FAA decreased from 33.6° to 13.0° (weighted mean difference = 20.59; p < 0.00001) after the combined procedure. Significant improvements (p < 0.00001) were identified in the Lysholm score (weighted mean: 55.5 vs. 80.4), International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score (weighted mean: 52.8 vs. 78.6) and Kujala score (weighted mean: 54.5 vs. 80.6). The incidence of residual J-sign ranged from 14.3% to 38.3% with an overall pooled rate of 28.2% (95% confidence interval = 22.8%-33.6%). The overall redislocation rate was 1.1%. No patients experienced surgical site infection or bone nonunion. Two studies compared the clinical outcomes of MPFL-R with and without D-DFO. Compared with isolated MPFL-R, the combined procedure yielded a better Lysholm score (weighted mean: 84.9 vs. 79.3, p < 0.0001), IKDC score (weighted mean: 84.1 vs. 79.9, p = 0.001), Kujala score (weighted mean: 84.3 vs. 79.4, p < 0.0001) and a lower residual J-sign rate (26/97 [26.8%] vs. 44/105 [41.9%], p = 0.02), respectively. CONCLUSION: The combination of D-DFO and MPFL-R led to improved clinical outcomes and a low redislocation rate in patients with RPD and increased FAA. Additional D-DFO can achieve more favourable results in subjective function and patellar tracking than isolated MPFL-R in the setting of excessive FAA. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level IV.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To explore the relationship between preoperative J-sign grading and structural bone abnormalities in patients with recurrent patellar dislocation (RPD). METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on RPD patients over 5 years. Patients were categorised based on J-sign grade into low (J- and J1+), moderate (J2+) and high groups (J3+). Trochlear dysplasia (TD) and osseous structures (femoral anteversion angle [FAA], knee torsion, tibial tuberosity-trochlear groove [TT-TG] distance, Caton-Deschamps index) were assessed and grouped according to risk factor thresholds. The χ2 test was used to compare composition ratio differences of structural bone abnormalities among the groups. RESULTS: A total of 256 patients were included, with 206 (80.5%) females. The distribution of J-sign grade was as follows: 89 knees (34.8%) of low grade, 86 moderate (33.6%) and 81 high (31.6%). Among the five structural bone abnormalities, TD was the most common with a prevalence of 78.5%, followed by increased TT-TG at 47.4%. Excessive tibiofemoral rotation had the lowest occurrence at 28.9%. There were 173 (67.6%) patients who had two or more abnormalities, while 45 (17.6%) had four to five bony abnormalities. Among patients with any bony abnormality, the proportion of high-grade J-sign surpassed 40%. Patients with moderate and high-grade J-sign had more increased FAA and more pronounced patella alta (all p < 0.001). The proportion of excessive knee torsion and TD increased with increasing each J-sign grade, with the more notable tendency in knee torsion (high vs. moderate vs. low-grade: 61% vs. 22% vs 7%, p < 0.001). Furthermore, the higher J-sign grade was also associated with more combined bony abnormalities (p < 0.001). In the high-grade J-sign group, 90.2% of the knees had two or more bony risk factors and 40.7% had four or more, which were significantly higher than the moderate and low-grade J-sign groups (40.7% vs. 11.6% vs. 2.2%, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: In patients with a high-grade J-sign, over 90% of the lower limbs had two or more structural bone risk factors, and more than 40% had four or more. These proportions were significantly higher compared to knees with low-grade and moderate J-sign. In clinical practice, when treating high-grade patellar mal-tracking, it is important to focus on and correct these strongly correlated abnormal bone structures. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level III.

RESUMEN

The fabrication of flexible single-crystalline plasmonic or photonic components in a scalable way is fundamentally important to flexible electronic and photonic devices with high speed, high energy efficiency, and high reliability. However, it remains a challenge. Here, we have successfully synthesized flexible single-crystalline optical hyperbolic metamaterials by directly depositing refractory nitride superlattices on flexible fluorophlogopite-mica substrates with magnetron sputtering. Interestingly, these flexible hyperbolic metamaterials show dual-band hyperbolic dispersion of dielectric constants with small dielectric losses and high figures of merit in the visible to near-infrared ranges. More importantly, the optical properties of these nitride-based flexible hyperbolic metamaterials show remarkable stability during 1000 °C heating or after being bent 1000 times. Therefore, the strategy developed in this work offers an easy and scalable route for fabricating flexible, high-performance, and refractory plasmonic or photonic components, which can significantly expand the applications of current electronic and photonic devices.

RESUMEN

Ionic liquids (ILs) have been widely used in transition metal-catalyzed processes, but the precise behavior of ILs and catalysts in these reactions is unknown. Herein, the role of ILs and the interaction pattern between Shvo's catalyst and ILs have been revealed with characterization by 1H NMR and crystallography based on the catalytic hydrogenation of CO2. ILs promote the dissociation of Shvo's catalyst and enhance the rate of production of CO. The CO that is produced is subsequently used in the tandem hydroformylation-reduction of alkenes to produce valuable alcohols. In the absence of ILs, formamides can be obtained by N-formylation of most primary or secondary amines.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To compare clinical outcome between recurrent patellar dislocation (RPD) with or without actual tibial tubercle lateralisation (TTL) after medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFL-R) combined with tibial tubercle transfer. METHODS: From 2015 to 2018, a total of 172 knees with RPD and a tibial tubercle-trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance of > 20 mm were treated with MPFL-R combined with tibial tubercle transfer. Patients were divided into the lateralisation group (TT-PCL > 24 mm, n = 74) and the nonlateralisation group (TT-PCL ≤ 24 mm, n = 60) based on the presence or absence of actual TTL (TT-PCL > 24 mm). Clinical outcomes were assessed postoperatively at a minimum of 2 years. Second-look arthroscopic evaluations were available for 84 knees to assess cartilage damage. RESULTS: A total of 134 knees with a median follow-up time of 32 months were included. Tibiofemoral rotation (TFR) was significantly higher in the nonlateralisation group than in the lateralisation group (15.4° vs. 9.4°, P < 0.001). At the final follow-up, the nonlateralisation group had significantly lower Kujala (78.2 vs. 86.4, P = 0.001) and Lysholm (80.3 vs. 88.2, P = 0.003) scores than the lateralisation group. At the time of the second-look arthroscopic assessment, 38.9% of the patients in the nonlateralisation group showed cartilage worsening in the medial patellar facet that was significantly higher than that in the lateralisation group (38.9% vs. 12.5%, P = 0.015). CONCLUSION: Patients with RPD and an increased TT-TG distance of > 20 mm but without actual tibial tubercle lateralisation benefit less from tibial tubercle transfer than patients with actual tibial tubercle lateralisation, which may be related to the significantly higher tibiofemoral rotation angle of the former. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: III.

RESUMEN

We investigate [Formula: see text]/[Formula: see text] superlattices in which we observe a full electron transfer at the interface from Ir to Ni, triggering a massive structural and electronic reconstruction. Through experimental characterization and first-principles calculations, we determine that a large crystal field splitting from the distorted interfacial [Formula: see text] octahedra surprisingly dominates over the spin-orbit coupling and together with the Hund's coupling results in the high-spin (S = 1) configurations on both the Ir and Ni sites. This demonstrates the power of interfacial charge transfer in coupling lattice, charge, orbital, and spin degrees of freedom, opening fresh avenues of investigation of quantum states in oxide superlattices.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To compare the objective and subjective clinical outcome of minimally invasive popliteal tendon (PT) recess procedure versus arthroscopic PT reconstruction, combined with posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in patients with Type A posterolateral rotational instability (PLRI). The hypothesis was that the two techniques had comparable clinical outcomes. METHODS: Between 2012 and 2017, patients who were eligible for inclusion in this study if they (1) had Type A PLRI according to Fanelli's classification with posterior tibial translation > 12 mm on stress radiography and side-to-side difference of dial test external rotation > 10°, (2) PT peel-off lesion or laxity with structural integrity (3) were followed for a minimum of 2 years with examination under anesthesia (EUA) and stress radiograph results. Evaluation included subjective scoring, knee stability examinations and second-look arthroscopic lateral gutter drive-through (LGDT) test. Patients who underwent PT recess procedure were designated as Group A, while patients who underwent arthroscopic PT reconstruction were labelled as Group B. The differences between the two groups were analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 61 eligible patients with a minimum follow-up time of 2 years were evaluated in the present study. At the final follow-up, there were no significant inter-group differences in Lysholm scores (Group A: 69.0 ± 16.5, Group B: 75.8 ± 14.6, ns), Tegner scores [Group A: 2 (1-4), Group B: 3 (1-5), ns], or IKDC subjective scores (Group A: 70.5 ± 13.5, Group B: 71.1 ± 9.1, ns). No significant difference in side-to-side difference on posterior stress radiography (Group A: 4.3 ± 3.8 mm, Group B: 4.7 ± 4.6 mm, P = 0.701), dial test result (Group A: 0.9 ± 4.4°, Group B: 1.6 ± 4.9°, ns) or LGDT test positive rate (Group A: 2/34, 5.9%, Group B: 2/27, 7.7%, ns) was observed. CONCLUSION: Both minimally invasive PT recess procedure and arthroscopic PT reconstruction significantly improved the knee stability and subjective outcome comparing with preoperative value. In a comparison with arthroscopic PT reconstruction, the recess procedure demonstrated comparable subjective and objective clinical outcome. When both PT reconstruction and PT recess procedure are indicated, the minimally invasive and graft-free recess procedure can be a viable option. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: III.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: This study aimed to compare the difference in posterior tibial slope (PTS) measurements based on the full-length and half-length tibial anatomic axes of the same group of patients. It was hypothesized that the obtained PTS values would be affected by the length of tibia chosen during the measurements. METHODS: Full-length true lateral tibia radiographs were obtained for each patient who underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) in our department. PTS measurements were obtained by measuring the angle between the full-length or half-length tibial anatomic axis and an average of the lateral and medial tibial plateau. The anatomic axis was defined as the center of the tibial diaphysis. The PTS measurements from the full-length and half-length true lateral tibia radiographs were obtained and compared. Additionally, the absolute difference and the relationship between the two PTS measurements were calculated and analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 200 ACL-injured patients were included in this study. The average PTS values using the anatomic axis were 15.9 ± 3.7° and 14.1 ± 3.7° on full-length and half-length true lateral tibial radiographs. There was a significant difference between the measurements with the full-length and half-length tibial radiographs (P < 0.01). Additionally, 49.5% (n = 99) of patients had ≥ 2.0° differences between the full-length and half-length anatomic axis PTS measurement techniques; meanwhile, a strong and significant linear relationship (r = 0.95; P < 0.001) was identified between the two PTS measurements. CONCLUSION: There were significant differences and linear relationships between PTS measurements that measured the anatomic axis from full-length and half-length true lateral tibia radiographs. Therefore, the obtained PTS values were strongly associated with the length of tibia chosen during the measurements. Surgeons should pay more attention to the measurement techniques and the tibial length when considering the role of PTS in ACL injury and ACLR failure. Knowledge of the association is very important for calculating potential closing wedge proximal tibial osteotomies to correct excessive PTS in the setting of ACLR failures. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: IV.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes of de-rotational distal femoral osteotomy (DDFO) in patients who underwent primary medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFLR) failure with increased femoral anteversion along with high-grade J sign. METHODS: Between 2011 and 2019, 14 patients underwent DDFO revision surgery due to failed MPFLR. The pre- and postoperative J sign grade, Caton-Deschamps index (CDI), tibial tuberosity-trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance, femoral anteversion angle (FAA), patellar lateral tilt angle (PLTA), MPFL graft laxity, and patient-reported outcomes (Kujala, Lysholm, Tegner, and International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) subjective scores) were collected. The anterior-posterior and proximal-distal distances between the actual point and the Schöttle point were also calculated. RESULTS: Fourteen patients underwent MPFLR revision by DDFO combined with MPFLR. The mean PLTA improved from 40.7° ± 11.9° to 20.5° ± 8.7° (P < 0.001). The mean FAA significantly decreased from 42.7° ± 12.0° to 14.1° ± 5.2° (P < 0.001). The mean patellar laxity index (PLI) decreased from 82.4% preoperatively to 15.1% postoperatively (P < 0.001). None of these patients experienced subluxation or re-dislocation during follow-up of 29.7 ± 5.0 months after revision surgery. Meanwhile, the Tegner score at the last follow-up ranged from 3 to 6, with a median of 5. The Kujala, Lysholm, and IKDC subjective scores showed significant improvements, from a mean of 51.0 ± 6.8 preoperatively to 75.4 ± 5.1 postoperatively (P < 0.001), 49.2 ± 7.9 to 75.2 ± 7.2 (P < 0.001), and 42.9 ± 6.2 to 76.8 ± 6.0 (P < 0.001), respectively. The proportion of patients with a high-grade J sign was significantly lower postoperatively than preoperatively (100% vs. 14%). Four out of 14 patients (29%) showed femoral tunnel mal-positioning. CONCLUSION: MPFLR revision by DDFO combined with MPFLR achieved favorable clinical outcomes in patients with increased femoral anteversion along with high-grade J sign. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: IV.

RESUMEN

Complementary to bulk synthesis, here we propose a designer lattice with extremely high magnetic frustration and demonstrate the possible realization of a quantum spin liquid state from both experiments and theoretical calculations. In an ultrathin (111) CoCr2O4 slice composed of three triangular and one kagome cation planes, the absence of a spin ordering or freezing transition is demonstrated down to 0.03 K, in the presence of strong antiferromagnetic correlations in the energy scale of 30 K between Co and Cr sublattices, leading to the frustration factor of ∼1000. Persisting spin fluctuations are observed at low temperatures via low-energy muon spin relaxation. Our calculations further demonstrate the emergence of highly degenerate magnetic ground states at the 0 K limit, due to the competition among multiply altered exchange interactions. These results collectively indicate the realization of a proximate quantum spin liquid state on the synthetic lattice.

RESUMEN

Circular RNA YAP1 (circYAP1) was reported to participate in progression of gastric cancer. However, the role of circYAP1 in acute kidney injury (AKI) remains obscure. We attempted to examine the effects of circYAP1 on ischaemia/reperfusion-stimulated renal injury. AKI model was established by treating HK-2 cells in ischaemia/reperfusion (I/R) environment. CircYAP1 expression in blood of AKI patients and I/R-treated HK-2 cells was evaluated via RT-qPCR. CCK-8, flow cytometry, ELISA and ROS assay were executed to test the impact of circYAP1 on cell viability, apoptosis, inflammatory cytokines and ROS generation. Bioinformatic analysis was executed to explore miRNA targets. The relativity between circYAP1 and miR-21-5p was verified by RT-qPCR and luciferase assay. The functions of miR-21-5p in I/R-triggered injury were reassessed. PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway was detected by Western blot. Down-regulated circYAP1 was observed in AKI blood samples and I/R-treated HK-2 cells. CircYAP1 overexpression expedited cell growth and weakened secretion of inflammatory factors and ROS generation in I/R-disposed cells. Besides, we found circYAP1 could sponge to miR-21-5p. Interestingly, miR-21-5p overexpression overturned the repressive effects of circYAP1 on cell injury. Moreover, PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway was activated by circYAP1 via inhibiting miR-21-5p. We demonstrated that circYAP1 activated PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway and secured HK-2 cells from I/R injury via sponging miR-21-5p.

RESUMEN

We explored the roles and regulatory mechanisms of the circular RNA (circRNA) nuclear receptor-interacting protein 1 (NRIP1; circNRIP1) in ACHN and CAKI-1 cells. ACHN and CAKI-1 cells were transfected with small-interfering-circNRIP1 (si-circNRIP1) and microRNA-505 (miR-505) inhibitor or the corresponding controls. Cell viability was detected with the Cell Counting Kit-8. The protein expression levels of Bcl-2, Bax, cleaved-caspase-3, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2, MMP-9, adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase (AMPK), protein kinase B (AKT), phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) were individually determined via Western blot. Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was used to examine the expressions of circNRIP1 and miR-505 both in tumor cells and tissues. The apoptotic rate, the colony numbers, and the migration rate were separately determined by the Annexin V-fluorescein isothiocyanate/propidium iodide and flow cytometer, colony formation assay, and migration assay. We found that circNRIP1 was overexpressed in tumor tissue but miR-505 was overproduced. Silencing circZNF292 induced inhibition of cell viability, colony formation, and migration, as well as the activity of AMPK and PI3K/AKT/mTOR cascades but enhancement of apoptosis. si-circNRIP1 stimulated the upregulation of miR-505, whose silence abolished the effects of si-circNRIP1 on these elements mentioned above. In conclusion, the circNRIP1 played oncogenic roles in the ACHN and the CAKI-1 cell lines by targeting miR-505 via stimulating AMPK and PI3K/AKT/mTOR cascades.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Kernel weight and morphology are important traits affecting cereal yields and quality. Dissecting the genetic basis of thousand kernel weight (TKW) and its related traits is an effective method to improve wheat yield. RESULTS: In this study, we performed quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis using recombinant inbred lines derived from the cross 'PuBing3228 × Gao8901' (PG-RIL) to dissect the genetic basis of kernel traits. A total of 17 stable QTLs related to kernel traits were identified, notably, two stable QTLs QTkw.cas-1A.2 and QTkw.cas-4A explained the largest portion of the phenotypic variance for TKW and kernel length (KL), and the other two stable QTLs QTkw.cas-6A.1 and QTkw.cas-7D.2 contributed more effects on kernel width (KW). Conditional QTL analysis revealed that the stable QTLs for TKW were mainly affected by KW. The QTLs QTkw.cas-7D.2 and QKw.cas-7D.1 associated with TKW and KW were delimited to the physical interval of approximately 3.82 Mb harboring 47 candidate genes. Among them, the candidate gene TaFT-D1 had a 1 bp insertions/deletion (InDel) within the third exon, which might be the reason for diversity in TKW and KW between the two parents. A Kompetitive Allele-Specific PCR (KASP) marker of TaFT-D1 allele was developed and verified by PG-RIL and a natural population consisted of 141 cultivar/lines. It was found that the favorable TaFT-D1 (G)-allele has been positively selected during Chinese wheat breeding. Thus, these results can be used for further positional cloning and marker-assisted selection in wheat breeding programs. CONCLUSIONS: Seventeen stable QTLs related to kernel traits were identified. The stable QTLs for thousand kernel weight were mainly affected by kernel width. TaFT-D1 could be the candidate gene for QTLs QTkw.cas-7D.2 and QKw.cas-7D.1.

RESUMEN

G-Quadruplexes (G4s) assembled from tandem G-rich repeat sequences exhibit significant biological functions and applications, which may well depend on their structural features, such as the planar arrangement of G-tetrads and flexibility of loop regions. It has been found that cytosine-intercalated G-repeat sequences also assemble to be quadruplex structures, involving the formation of nonplanar GCGC-tetrads. Herein, to investigate the effect of GCGC-tetrads on structural properties of G4s, some previously studied quadruplexes with or without GCGC-tetrads were selected, and were used to interact with various developed G4 ligands. Our data show that stacked G-tetrads in quadruplexes are important for the π-π stacking interactions, thus promoting the combination with end-stacking ligands, such as porphyrins or planar small molecules. This is confirmed by the observation that the quadruplex formed by d(GGGCT4 GGGC) with two internal G-tetrads and two external GCGC-tetrads can bind to planar ligands in the presence of specific G4-stabilizing cations, including K+ and Pb2+ , and can realize the sensitive detection of Pb2+ . However, the quadruplex composed of two external G-tetrads and two internal GCGC-tetrads formed by d(GCGGT3 GCGG) facilitates the binding of nonplanar ligands, such as triphenylmethane (TPM) dyes, owing to the structural flexibility induced by internal GCGC-tetrads. This work provides new insights into the interaction between DNA quadruplexes and specific ligands, which is beneficial to the development of quadruplex-based biosensors and the design of anticancer drugs.

RESUMEN

Numerous studies have shown compelling evidence that incorporation of an inversion of polarity site (IPS) in G-rich sequences can affect the topological and structural characteristics of G-quadruplexes (G4s). Herein, the influence of IPS on the formation of a previously studied intramolecular parallel G4 of d(G3 TG3 TG3 TG3 ) (TTT) and its stacked higher-order structures is explored. Insertion of 3'-3' or 5'-5' IPS did not change the parallel folding pattern of TTT. However, both the species and position of the IPS in TTT have a significant impact on the G4 stability and end-stacking through the alteration of G4-G4 interfaces properties. The data demonstrate that one base flip in each terminal G-tetrad can stabilize parallel G4s and facilitate intermolecular packing of monomeric G4s. Such modifications can also enhance the fluorescence and enzymatic performances by promoting interactions between parallel G4s with N-methyl mesoporphyrin IX (NMM) and hemin, respectively.

RESUMEN

Light-up small molecule fluorescent dyes play an important role in modern analytical techniques, and they can be widely applied in biochemistry and biomedicine. Aptamers, including single-stranded ribonucleic acids and deoxyribonucleic acids, are molecules that have high affinity for, and can selectively bind to, a specific target, including ions, small molecules, cells, etc. Aptamers are selected in vitro using a process termed SELEX. Light-up dyes have excellent fluorogenic behavior because, although their baseline fluorescence is very low, their fluorescence quantum yield dramatically increases when they bind with a specific aptamer. Aptamer-dye pairs are used in biological imaging and chemical analysis because of their numerous advantages, including their low cost, small size, ease of modification, stability, and low immunogenicity. This paper reviews the progress that has been made in the selection of aptamers for use with light-up dyes and the applications of aptamer-based light-up dyes.

RESUMEN

We report on the emergent magnetic state of (111)-oriented CoCr2O4 ultrathin films sandwiched between Al2O3 spacer layers in a quantum confined geometry. At the two-dimensional crossover, polarized neutron reflectometry reveals an anomalous enhancement of the total magnetization compared to the bulk value. Synchrotron X-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements demonstrate the appearance of a long-range ferromagnetic ordering of spins on both Co and Cr sublattices. Brillouin function analyses and ab-initio density functional theory calculations further corroborate that the observed phenomena are due to the strongly altered magnetic frustration invoked by quantum confinement effects, manifested by the onset of a Yafet-Kittel-type ordering as the magnetic ground state in the ultrathin limit, which is unattainable in the bulk.

RESUMEN

A sensitive amine-responsive disassembly of self-assembled AuI -CuI double salts was observed and its utilization for the synergistic catalysis was enlightened. Investigation of the disassembly of [Au(NHC)2 ][CuI2 ] revealed the contribution of Cu-assisted ligand exchange of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) by amine in [Au(NHC)2 ]+ and the capacity of [CuI2 ]- on the oxidative step. By integrating the implicative information coded in the responsive behavior and inherent catalytic functions of d10 metal complexes, a catalyst for the oxidative carbonylation of amines was developed. The advantages of this method were clearly reflected on mild reaction conditions and the significantly expanded scope (51 examples); both primary and steric secondary amines can be employed as substrates. The cooperative reactivity from Au and Cu centers, as an indispensable prerequisite for the excellent catalytic performance, was validated in the synthesis of (un)symmetric ureas and carbamates.

RESUMEN

Penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC) is a malignancy that affects the skin and tissues of the penis, but the knowledge of pathogenesis and carcinogenesis is limited. Here, we characterize the PSCC genomic landscape using whole-exome sequencing. Of the 30 paired blood and tumor samples, we identified recurrent mutations in 11 genes; confirmed previous findings for FAT1 (4/30), HRAS (4/30), NOTCH1 (4/30), TP53 (3/30) and PIK3CA (3/30); and revealed novel candidate driver genes [CASP8 (4/30), SLITRK2 (3/30), FLG (3/30) and TRRAP (3/30)]. Our in vitro experiments suggested CASP8 was involved in mediating TRAIL-induced apoptosis of penile cancer cell lines. We also observed the frequently altered pathways for potential therapeutic implications: alterations in the Notch (30% of sample altered), RTK-RAS (26.7% altered) and Hippo (23.3% altered) pathways accounted for over 50% of tumors. The frequently altered genes (>10%) in these pathways were proved to be expressed in penile tumors by immunohistochemistry assay. These findings provide new insight into the mutational and pathway landscapes of PSCC and suggest potential novel therapeutic opportunities for this malignancy.
