RESUMEN

Gastric cancer (GC) is a prevalent malignancy of the digestive system. Distant metastasis and chemotherapy resistance are the crucial obstacles to prognosis in GC. Recent research has discovered that the glucose-6-phosphatase catalytic subunit (G6PC) plays an important role in tumor malignant development. However, little evidence has highlighted its role in GC. Herein, through a comprehensive analysis including profiling of tissue samples and functional validation in vivo and in vitro, we identify G6PC as a crucial factor in GC tumorigenesis. Importantly, we found that the FOXO1/G6PC axis could accelerate GC cell proliferation, metastasis, and 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) resistance by targeting the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway, implicating that as a prospective therapeutic approach in GC.

Iron has been found to be involved in the tumor cell proliferation process, which can lead to the increased sensitivity of cancer cells to ferroptosis. Since erianin is associated with oxidative stress in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), we hypothesized that the therapeutic effect and mechanism of erianin on HCC is related to ferroptosis. HCC cells were stimulated with increase of erianin concentrations for 24 h, and the survival rates of Huh-7 and HepG2 cells gradually decreased. After intervention with different doses of erianin, cell proliferation, clone number, and invasion were prominently decreased, apoptosis ratio was increased. Moreover, Nec-1, CQ, and Z-VAD had no effect on the cell viability induced by erianin, while the combination of ferroptosis inhibitors (deferoxamine mesylate, ferrostatin-1, and liproxstatin-1) and erianin prominently increased cell survival rate. Erianin pretreatment induced ferroptosis by enhancing reactive oxygen species, MDA, and Fe2+ levels, and reducing GSH levels. Erianin activated JAK2/STAT3 pathway and inhibited SLC7A11 and GPX4 expression, thereby inducing ferroptosis. Besides, tumor growth was significantly inhibited in the erianin-treated mice, and there was no obvious toxicity in the mice. Erianin reduced proliferation and invasion of HCC cells by inducing ferroptosis by blocking the JAK2/STAT3/SLC7A11 pathway, thereby impeding tumor growth.

Background: Sirtuin 2 (SIRT2) and galectin-3 have been shown to protect the heart against fibrosis. However, their impacts on radiation-induced myocardial fibrosis (RIMF) remain to be elucidated. To deepen this understanding, the current study sought to explore the effects of SIRT2 and galectin-3 on RIMF and the underlying mechanisms. Methods: Galectin-3 knockout mice were obtained, and a radiation-induced heart damage (RIHD) mouse model was induced by local radiation exposure to the heart. Lentivirus transfection was then performed, and heart function, fibrosis of heart tissues, and levels of SIRT2, galectin-3, and fibrosis-related markers collagen type-I/-III and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)2/MMP9 were respectively assessed by echocardiography, hematoxylin-eosin and Masson staining, reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction, Western blot, and immunofluorescence staining. Additionally, Western blot and chromatin immunoprecipitation were used to test H3K27 acetylation levels and the binding of H3K27ac to galectin-3, respectively. Results: After radiation exposure, heart tissues from the galectin-3 knockout mice had a smaller fibrotic area compared to normal mice, with reduced expression levels of collagen type-I/-III and MMP2/MMP9. SIRT2 was down-regulated and galectin-3 was up-regulated after RIHD treatment. The histone deacetylase inhibitor sirtinol promoted galectin-3 expression and H3K27 acetylation in a time-dependent manner, and increased H3K27ac enrichment in the galectin-3 promoter. Overexpression of SIRT2 down-regulated H3K27ac, collagen type-I/-III, and MMP2/MMP9 expression levels, and reduced the fibrotic area in mouse heart tissues. However, these effects were reversed by the additional overexpression of galectin-3. Conclusions: SIRT2 facilitates deacetylation of H3K27 to inhibit galectin-3 transcription, thus ameliorating RIMF in mice.

BACKGROUND: Urorectal septum malformation sequence (URSMS) is characterized by incomplete partitioning of the genital, rectal, and urinary tracts, resulting in a severe form of anorectal malformation. The partial URSMS, also known as the persistent cloaca, represents a milder variant where a single perineal opening serves as a passage for the urinary, gastrointestinal, and reproductive tracts. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a rare case of partial URSMS accompanied by duplicated vagina and uterus, hydronephrosis, ascites, and anal atresia. CONCLUSIONS: This case report describes the sonographic findings at different stages of pregnancy and their changes throughout gestation.

BACKGROUND: There are different types of ear molding devices on the market. However, due to high cost, the wide application of the ear molding is hindered, especially for children with bilateral congenital auricular deformities (CAD). This study is designed to correct the bilateral CAD with the flexible use of Chinese domestic ear molding system. METHODS: Newborns diagnosed with bilateral CAD were recruited in our hospital from September 2020 to October 2021. For each subject, one ear wore a set of domestic ear molding system, while the contralateral ear used only matching Retractor and Antihelix Former. Medical charts were reviewed to collect data on the types of CAD, the incidence of complications, the initiation and duration of treatment, as well as the satisfaction after treatment. Treatment outcomes were graded into three levels: excellent, good, and poor, according to the improvement of auricular morphology evaluated by both doctors and parents, respectively. RESULTS: A total of 16 infants (32 ears) were treated with the Chinese domestic ear molding system, which contains 4 cases with Stahl's ear (8 ears), 5 cases with Helical rim deformity (10 ears), 3 cases with Cup ear (6 ears), 4 cases with Lop ear (8 ears). All infants accomplished the correction completely. Both parents and doctors were satisfied with the outcomes. No obvious complication was observed. CONCLUSIONS: Ear molding is an effective nonsurgical treatment for CAD. Molding with Retractor and Antihelix Former is simple and effective. Domestic ear molding system can be flexibly used in correcting bilateral CAD. With this approach, infants with bilateral CAD will benefit more in the near future.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) affects over 300 million people across the world and is further associated with the self-digesting process of autophagy. Accordingly, the current study set out to explore the role of transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily M member 2 (TRPM2) in HBV replication. Firstly, Huh-7 cells were transfected with the pHBV1.3 plasmid to detect the expression patterns of TRPM2 and neutrophil cytosolic factor 1 (p47 phox), followed by evaluating the role of TRPM2 in autophagy and HBV replication and exploring the interaction between TRPM2 and p47 phox. Collaborative experiments were further designed to explore the role of p47 phox and autophagy in TRPM2 regulation of HBV replication, in addition to animal experimentation to validate the role of TRPM2/p47 phox axis in vivo. It was found that TRPM2 up-regulation was associated with HBV replication. On the other hand, silencing of TRPM2 inhibited HBV replication and autophagy in vitro and in vivo, as evidenced by reduced HBV DNA load, HBV mRNA, HBeAg and HBsAg, and diminished autophagic spot number, LC3 II/I ratio, Beclin-1 expressions and increased p62 expressions. Mechanistic experimentation illustrated that TRPM2 interacted with p47 phox and positively regulated p47 phox, such that p47 phox up-regulation or use of Rapamycin (autophagy activator) weakened the inhibitory role of silencing TRPM2. Collectively, our findings indicated that HBV infection promotes TRPM2 expression, and TRPM2 interacts with p47 phox to induce autophagy and facilitate HVB replication.

BACKGROUND: The glucose-6-phosphatase catalytic subunit (G6PC) is a key enzyme that is involved in gluconeogenesis and glycogen decomposition during glycometabolism. Studies have shown that G6PC is abnormally expressed in various cancers and participates in the proliferation and metastasis of tumors. However, the role of G6PC in cervical cancer remains poorly established. METHODS: To analyze the expression of G6PC in cervical cancer tissues in patients by immunohistochemistry. Effects of G6PC deregulation on cervical cancer phenotype were determined using MTT, colony formation, transwell, and wound-healing assays. And constructed a nude mouse xenograft tumor model and CAM assay in vivo. The effect of G6PC on glycolysis in cervical cancer was also evaluated. Effect of G6PC on PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway was detected by Western blot assay. RESULTS: In this study, G6PC expression was found to be upregulated in cervical cancer tissues, and this upregulated expression was associated with LN metastasis, clinical stage, recurrence, and disease-free survival and overall survival rates, indicating that G6PC could serve as a novel marker of early diagnosis in cervical cancer. G6PC promoted proliferation, invasion, epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) progression, and angiogenesis of cervical cancer cells. Mechanistically, G6PC activated PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathways. The PI3K/AKT pathway inhibitor, LY294002 could partially attenuate the effect. CONCLUSIONS: G6PC plays a key role in the progression of cervical cancer, and overexpressed G6PC is closely related to patient LN metastasis, clinical stage, recurrence and shortened survival. G6PC promoted cervical cancer proliferation, invasion, migration, EMT progression, and angiogenesis, partially through activating the PI3K/AKT pathway. G6PC, as a metabolic gene, not only plays a role in metabolism, but also participates in the development of cervical cancer. Its complex metabolic and non metabolic effects may be a potential therapeutic target and worthy of further study.

Biomineralization, the process by which mineralized tissues grow and harden via biogenic mineral deposition, is a relatively lengthy process in many mineral-producing organisms, resulting in challenges to study the growth and biomineralization of complex hard mineralized tissues. Arthropods are ideal model organisms to study biomineralization because they regularly molt their exoskeletons and grow new ones in a relatively fast timescale, providing opportunities to track mineralization of entire tissues. Here, we monitored the biomineralization of the mantis shrimp dactyl club-a model bioapatite-based mineralized structure with exceptional mechanical properties-immediately after ecdysis until the formation of the fully functional club and unveil an unusual development mechanism. A flexible membrane initially folded within the club cavity expands to form the new club's envelope. Mineralization proceeds inwards by mineral deposition from this membrane, which contains proteins regulating mineralization. Building a transcriptome of the club tissue and probing it with proteomic data, we identified and sequenced Club Mineralization Protein 1 (CMP-1), an abundant mildly phosphorylated protein from the flexible membrane suggested to be involved in calcium phosphate mineralization of the club, as indicated by in vitro studies using recombinant CMP-1. This work provides a comprehensive picture of the development of a complex hard tissue, from the secretion of its organic macromolecular template to the formation of the fully functional club.

BACKGROUND: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pneumonia is a newly recognized disease, and its diagnosis is primarily confirmed by routine reverse transcriptase -polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) detection of SARS-CoV-2. METHODS: However, we report a confirmed case of SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia with a negative routine RT-PCR. RESULTS: This case was finally diagnosed by nanopore sequencing combined with antibody of SARS-CoV-2. Simultaneously, the ORF and NP gene variations of SARS-CoV-2 were found. CONCLUSIONS: This case highlighted that false-negative results could be present in routine RT-PCR diagnosis, especially with virus variation. Currently, nanopore pathogen sequencing and antibody detection have been found to be effective in clinical diagnosis.

Chemical proteomics methods have been used as effective tools to identify novel protein targets for small molecules. These methods have great potential to be applied as environmental toxicants to figure out their mode of action. However, these assays usually generate dozens of possible targets, making it challenging to validate the most important one. In this study, we have integrated the cellular thermal shift assay (CETSA), quantitative proteomics, metabolomics, computer-assisted docking, and target validation methods to uncover the protein targets of monoethylhexyl phthalate (MEHP). Using the mass spectrometry implementation of CETSA (MS-CETSA), we have identified 74 possible protein targets of MEHP. The Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment integration was further conducted for the target proteins, the cellular dysregulated proteins, and the metabolites, showing that cell cycle dysregulation could be one primary change due to the MEHP-induced toxicity. Flow cytometry analysis confirmed that hepatocytes were arrested at the G1 stage due to the treatment with MEHP. Subsequently, the potential protein targets were ranked by their binding energy calculated from the computer-assisted docking with MEHP. In summary, we have demonstrated the development of interactomics workflow to simplify the redundant information from multiomics data and identified novel cell cycle regulatory protein targets (CPEB4, ANAPC5, and SPOUT1) for MEHP.

BACKGROUND Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in December 2019, there have been 96 623 laboratory-confirmed cases and 4784 deaths by December 29 in China. We aimed to analyze the risk factors and the incidence of thrombosis from patients with confirmed COVID-19 pneumonia. MATERIAL AND METHODS Eighty-eight inpatients with confirmed COVID-19 pneumonia were reported (31 critical cases, 33 severe cases, and 24 common cases). The thrombosis risk factor assessment, laboratory results, ultrasonographic findings, and prognoses of these patients were analyzed, and compared among groups with different severity. RESULTS Nineteen of the 88 cases developed DVT (12 critical cases, 7 severe cases, and no common cases). In addition, among the 18 patients who died, 5 were diagnosed with DVT. Positive correlations were observed between the increase in D-dimer level (≥5 µg/mL) and the severity of COVID-19 pneumonia (r=0.679, P<0.01), and between the high Padua score (≥4) and the severity (r=0.799, P<0.01). In addition, the CRP and LDH levels on admission had positive correlations with the severity of illness (CRP: r=0.522, P<0.01; LDH: r=0.600, P<0.01). A negative correlation was observed between the lymphocyte count on admission and the severity of illness (r=-0.523, P<0.01). There was also a negative correlation between the lymphocyte count on admission and mortality in critical patients (r=-0.499, P<0.01). Univariable logistic regression analysis showed that the occurrence of DVT was positively correlated with disease severity (crude odds ratio: 3.643, 95% CI: 1.218-10.896, P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Our report illustrates that critically or severely ill patients have an associated high D-dimer value and high Padua score, and illustrates that a low threshold to screen for DVT may help improve detection of thromboembolism in these groups of patients, especially in asymptomatic patients. Our results suggest that early administration of prophylactic anticoagulant would benefit the prognosis of critical patients with COVID-19 pneumonia and would likely reduce thromboembolic rates.

INTRODUCTION: The efficacy of ginger for migraine remains controversial. We conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the influence of ginger versus placebo on treatment in migraine patients. METHODS: We have searched PubMed, EMbase, Web of science, EBSCO, and Cochrane library databases through September 2020 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effect of ginger versus placebo on treatment efficacy in migraine patients. This meta-analysis is performed using the random-effect model. RESULTS: Three RCTs are included in the meta-analysis. Overall, compared with control group in migraine patients, ginger treatment is associated with substantially improved pain free at 2 h (RR = 1.79; 95% CI = 1.04-3.09; P = 0.04) and reduced pain scores at 2 h (MD = -1.27; 95% CI = -1.46 to -1.07; P < 0.00001), but reveals no obvious impact on treatment response (RR = 2.04; 95% CI = 0.35-11.94; P = 0.43) or total adverse events (RR = 0.80; 95% CI = 0.46-1.41; P = 0.44). The incidence of nausea and vomiting is obviously lower in ginger group than that in control group. CONCLUSIONS: Ginger is safe and effective in treating migraine patients with pain outcomes assessed at 2 h.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate blood and biochemical laboratory findings in patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and analyze the potential predictors of poor outcome in patients with COVID-19. METHODS: The clinical, laboratory, and outcome data of 87 patients with COVID-19 were collected and retrospectively analyzed. Only data collected at the time of admission were used in the analysis for predictors of poor outcome. These patients were divided into two groups: the adverse prognosis group (36 patients) and the non-adverse prognosis group (51 patients). The adverse prognosis of COVID-19 patients was defined as admission to the intensive care unit or death. RESULTS: On the univariate analysis, age, white blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophil counts, lymphocytes count, neutrophils-to-lymphocytes ratio (NLR), interleukin-6, albumin-to-globulin ratio (AGR), albumin, lactate dehydrogenase, glutamyl transpeptidase, and blood glucose were found to be the significant predictors. On the multivariate analysis, the predictors of poor outcome of patients with COVID-19 were NLR (OR = 2.741, [95% CI = 1.02 ~ 7.35], P = .045) and IL-6 (OR = 1.405, [95% CI = 1.04 ~ 1.89, P = .025]). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve revealed that the AUC of NLR, interleukin-6, pneumonia severity index (PSI) score, and Confusion-Urea-Respiratory Rate-Blood pressure-65 (CURB-65) score were 0.883, 0.852, 0.824, and 0.782, respectively. CONCLUSION: High interleukin-6 (6 pg/mL, cuff value) and NLR (4.48, cuff value) can be used to predict poor outcomes in patients with COVID-19 on admission, thus can serve as a beneficial tool for timely identifying COVID-19 patients prone to poor outcome and reduce patient mortality through early intervention.

Chronic unpredicted mild stress(CUMS) combined with isolated feeding was used to induce depressed rat model. The anti-depressant effects of Zhizichi Decoction(ZZCD) and its solid fermented product(ZZC) were analyzed by behavioral test and comparison of pathological tissues of hippocampus and liver, metabolic characteristics of intestinal flora, and relative abundance of species. The results showed that ZZC could increase sucrose preference, shorten the immobility time in the forced swim test and tail suspension test(P<0.05), and repair damaged hippocampus and liver tissues, and the effect was superior to that of ZZCD. The results of Biolog ECO plates showed that the average well color development(AWCD) of intestinal flora in the model group significantly decreased and the metabolic levels of sugar and amino acids were reduced, while the AWCD of the treatment groups increased. The metabolic levels of the two carbon sources were improved in the ZZC group, while only sugar metabolic level was elevated in the ZZCD group. Metagenomic analysis of intestinal flora showed that the ratio of Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes was 3.87 in the control group, 21.77 in the model group, 5.91 in the ZZC group, and 18.48 in the ZZCD group. Lactobacillus increased by 3.28 times, and Prevotella and Bacteroidetes decreased by 75.59% and 76.39%, respectively in the model group as compared with that in the control group. Lactobacillus decreased by 31.13%, and Prevotella and Bacteroidetes increased by more than three times in the ZZC group as compared with that in the model group, while the corresponding changes in the ZZCD group were not significant. ZZC could improve depression-like beha-viors by regulating the structure of intestinal flora and metabolic functions and repairing damaged hippocampus and liver tissues in depressed rats, showing an anti-depressant effect superior to that of ZZCD. This study is expected to provide a basis for the development of new anti-depressant food products.

In this experiment, ultra high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) was used to analyze and identify chemical constituents of Ginseng-Douchi(GD) compound fermentation, and explore the conversion rules of ginsenosides and soybean isoflavones after compound fermentation. Waters Acquity UPLC BEH C_(18) column(2.1 mm×100 mm, 1.7 µm) was adopted, with 0.1% formic acid aqueous solution(A)-0.1% formic acid acetonitrile solution(B) as mobile phase for gradient elution; electrospray ion source(ESI) was used to collect data in positive and negative ion modes; according to the exact mass number, the secondary spectrum comparison of the database and the existing literature reports, Peakview 2.0/masterview 1.0 software was used to determine the common ion structure formula. Finally, a total of 133 chemical constituents were analyzed and identified from the GD. Ginseng saponins and isoflavone glycosides were significantly converted after fermentation. Among them, peak areas of prototype ginsenosides Rk_3, Rh_1, Rh_2, Rh_3, daidzin, glycitin and genistin decreased significantly; whereas peak areas of se-condary ginsenoside Rb_1, Rb_2, Rk_1, glycitein, genistein and daidzein increased significantly. In this experiment, liquid-mass spectrometry technique was used to investigate the conversion of active ingredients of GD compound fermented products after co-fermentation, so as to provide a scientific basis for elucidating pharmacodynamics material basis and quality control.

The 2019 novel coronavirus was detected in self-collected throat washings. The positive testing rate of throat washing was much higher than that of nasopharyngeal swabs. Throat washing is a promising candidate for 2019-nCoV screening and monitoring due to its noninvasiveness and reliability.

The outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) quickly spread all over China and to more than 20 other countries. Although the virus (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus [SARS-Cov-2]) nucleic acid real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test has become the standard method for diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection, these real-time PCR test kits have many limitations. In addition, high false-negative rates were reported. There is an urgent need for an accurate and rapid test method to quickly identify a large number of infected patients and asymptomatic carriers to prevent virus transmission and assure timely treatment of patients. We have developed a rapid and simple point-of-care lateral flow immunoassay that can detect immunoglobulin M (IgM) and IgG antibodies simultaneously against SARS-CoV-2 virus in human blood within 15 minutes which can detect patients at different infection stages. With this test kit, we carried out clinical studies to validate its clinical efficacy uses. The clinical detection sensitivity and specificity of this test were measured using blood samples collected from 397 PCR confirmed COVID-19 patients and 128 negative patients at eight different clinical sites. The overall testing sensitivity was 88.66% and specificity was 90.63%. In addition, we evaluated clinical diagnosis results obtained from different types of venous and fingerstick blood samples. The results indicated great detection consistency among samples from fingerstick blood, serum and plasma of venous blood. The IgM-IgG combined assay has better utility and sensitivity compared with a single IgM or IgG test. It can be used for the rapid screening of SARS-CoV-2 carriers, symptomatic or asymptomatic, in hospitals, clinics, and test laboratories.

Hypochlorous acid/hypochlorite (HOCl/OCl-), one of the most important reactive oxygen species (ROS), plays vital roles in various physiological and pathological processes. At normal concentrations, OCl- acts as part of an immune defense system by destroying invasive bacteria and pathogens. However, nonproperly located or excessive amounts of OCl- are related to many diseases, including cancers. Thus, detection of OCl- has great importance. Owing to their high sensitivities, selectivities, fast response times, technical simplicities, and high temporal and spatial resolution, fluorescent probes are powerful tools for in vitro and in vivo sensing of target substances. This Account focuses on the development of new chemosensors for detection of OCl-, which operate by undergoing a chemical reaction with this ROS in conjunction with a change in emission properties. As part of the presentation, we first introduce several important factors that need to be considered in the design of fluorescent chemosensors for OCl-, including fluorophores, reaction groups, cosolvents, and buffers. Discussion here revolves around the need to select fluorophores that resist oxidation by OCl-. As well, attention is given to the sensitivities and selectivities of groups in the sensors that react with OCl- to trigger a fluorescence response. Moreover, well-known reaction groups, which react with highly reactive ROS (hROS), have been redesigned to be specific for OCl-. In addition, it is pointed out that several cosolvents and buffers such as DMSO and HEPES are not suitable for use in systems for the detection of OCl- because they are readily oxidized by this ROS. We further discuss recent investigations carried out by us and others aimed at the development of fluorescent probes for in vitro and in vivo detection of OCl-. These efforts led to the new "dual lock" strategy for designing OCl- chemosensors as well as several new specific reaction groups such as imidazoline-2-thiones and imidazoline-2-boranes. Probes created using this strategy and the new reacting groups have been successfully applied to imaging exogenous and endogenous OCl- in live cells and/or tissues. The design concepts and strategies emanating from our studies of fluorescent OCl- probes have provided insight into the general field of fluorescent probes. Despite the progress made thus far, challenges still remain in developing and applying fluorescent OCl- probes. For example, more highly specific and sensitive fluorescent OCl- probes are still in great demand for studies of the biological roles played by OCl-. Thus, interdisciplinary collaborations of chemists, biologists, and medical practitioners are needed to drive future developments of OCl- probes for disease diagnosis and drug screening.

Monoethylhexyl phthalate (MEHP) is one of the main active metabolites of the plasticizer di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate. It has been known that MEHP has an impact on lipolysis; however, its mechanism on the cellular lipid metabolism remains largely unclear. Here, we first utilized global lipid profiling to fully characterize the lipid synthesis and degradation pathways upon MEHP treatment on hepatic cells. Meanwhile, we further identified the possible MEHP-targeted proteins in living cells using the cellular thermal shift assay (CETSA) method. The lipidomics results showed that there was a significant accumulation of fatty acids and other lipids in the cell. The CETSA identified 18 proteins and fatty acid ß-oxidation inhibition pathways that were significantly perturbed. MEHP's binding with selected proteins HADH and HSD17B10 was further evaluated using molecule docking, and results showed that MEHP has higher affinities as compared to endogenous substrates, which was further experimentally confirmed in the surface plasma resonance interaction assay. In summary, we found a novel mechanism for MEHP-induced lipid accumulation, which was probably due to its inhibitive effects on the enzymes in fatty acid ß-oxidation. This mechanism substantiates the public concerns on the high exposure level to plasticizers and their possible role as an obesogen.

Thymoma is an uncommon neoplasia derived from the epithelial cells of the thymus, which leads to immune dysregulation and is associated with a series of autoimmune diseases. However, the concurrence of these disease entities is rare, and the exact mechanisms of these diseases are still unclear. We have admitted several cases who were diagnosed with thymoma, autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, and pure red cell aplasia. These cases were the first to report the concurrence of these three disorders. After thymectomy, anaemia improved, haemolytic cells decreased, and haemoglobin was normalized.
