BACKGROUND: Guided imagery (GI) is a non-pharmacological method used to reduce pain, stress, and anxiety. AIMS: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of brief GI on symptoms of chronic back pain in adults treated in the Rheumatology clinic. DESIGN: A-B design study. SETTINGS & PARTICIPANTS: A sample of 35 women with chronic back pain were recruited at the Rheumatology Outpatient Clinic of Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, Israel. METHODS: All subjects completed questionnaires at recruitment (T1), and after 8-10 weeks, they completed questionnaires again before the first intervention (T2). The intervention included five brief GI group meetings every 2-3 weeks, one hour each (3-5 subjects per group). Participants learned 6 GI exercises and were asked to practice brief guided imagery exercises at least once daily. Then, questionnaires were completed the third time (T3). OUTCOME MEASURES: MOQ - Modified Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire, STAI - State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, FABQ - Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire, NPRS - Numerical Pain Rating Scale (average pain over the last week). RESULTS: Compared with the period without intervention, NPRS (Δ = 2.53, standard error [SE] = 0.43, p < .001), STAI (Δ = 8.41, SE = 1.95, p < .001), and MOQ (Δ = 0.06, SE = 0.02, p = .019) reported significantly lower levels after brief guided imagery training. However, no statistically significant change was found in FABQ. CONCLUSIONS: The brief guided imagery intervention may help alleviate chronic back pain, help decrease anxiety, and improve daily activity in women who suffer from chronic low back pain.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the inhibition of progression of structural joint damage through week 48 in patients with moderately to severely active RA receiving upadacitinib as monotherapy or in combination with MTX. METHODS: Radiographic progression was assessed in two phase 3 randomized controlled trials. MTX-naïve patients were randomized to upadacitinib 15 or 30 mg once daily or MTX monotherapy (SELECT-EARLY, n = 945), while MTX inadequate responders (IRs) were randomized to upadacitinib 15 mg once daily or adalimumab 40 mg every other week or placebo added to background MTX (SELECT-COMPARE, n = 1629). The mean changes from baseline in modified total Sharp score (mTSS), joint space narrowing and erosion scores were determined. Data were analysed both by linear extrapolation for missing data imputation and treatment switching and as observed. RESULTS: In patients naïve or with limited exposure to MTX (SELECT-EARLY), mean changes from baseline to week 48 in mTSS were 0.03 for upadacitinib 15 mg, 0.14 for upadacitinib 30 mg and 1.00 for MTX based on linear extrapolation (P < 0.001 for both upadacitinib doses vs MTX). Among patients with an inadequate response to MTX (SELECT-COMPARE), the mean change from baseline in mTSS was significantly reduced in the upadacitinib 15 mg plus MTX group vs placebo plus MTX (0.28 vs 1.73; P < 0.001). The mean change from baseline in the adalimumab plus MTX group was 0.39. CONCLUSION: Upadacitinib monotherapy or in combination with background MTX was effective in inhibiting the progression of structural joint damage through week 48 in MTX-naïve and MTX-IR patients with RA. We assembled eight cofacial porphyrin prisms using MTPyP (M = Co(II) or Zn(II), TPyP = 4-tetrapyridylporphyrin) and functionalized ruthenium-based "molecular clips" using coordination-driven self-assembly. Our approach allows for the rapid synthesis of these architectures in isolated yields as high as 98% for the assembly step. Structural and reactivity studies provided a deeper understanding of the role of the building blocks on the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Catalytic efficacy was probed by using cyclic and hydrodynamic voltammetry on heterogeneous catalyst inks in aqueous media. The reported prisms showed outstanding selectivity (>98%) for the kinetically hindered 4e-/4H+ reduction of O2 to H2O over the kinetically more accessible 2e-/2H+ reduction to H2O2. Furthermore, we have demonstrated significant cofacial enhancement in the observed catalytic rate constant ks (∼5 orders of magnitude) over the mononuclear analogue. We conclude that the steric bulk of the clip plays an important role in the structural dynamics of these prisms, which in turn modulates the ORR reactivity with respect to selectivity and kinetics.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of upadacitinib (UPA) monotherapy vs MTX on patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in patients with RA who were MTX-naïve or who had an inadequate response to MTX (MTX-IR). METHODS: PROs from the SELECT-EARLY and SELECT-MONOTHERAPY randomized controlled trials were evaluated at Weeks 2 and 12/14. Patients were ≥18 years of age with RA symptoms for ≥6 weeks (SELECT-EARLY, MTX-naïve) or diagnosed RA for ≥3 months (SELECT-MONOTHERAPY, MTX-IR) and received UPA monotherapy (15 or 30 mg) or MTX. PROs included Patient Global Assessment of Disease Activity (PtGA), pain visual analogue scale, HAQ Disability Index (HAQ-DI), morning stiffness duration/severity, Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT)-Fatigue (SELECT-EARLY), health-related quality of life (HRQOL) by the 36-iem Short Form Health Survey and Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI; SELECT-EARLY). Least square mean (LSM) changes and proportions of patients reporting improvements greater than or equal to the minimum clinically important differences and normative values were determined. RESULTS: In 945 MTX-naïve and 648 MTX-IR patients, UPA monotherapy (15 mg, 30 mg) vs MTX resulted in greater reported LSM changes from baseline at Weeks 12/14 in PtGA, pain, HAQ-DI, morning stiffness duration/severity, FACIT-F (SELECT-EARLY), HRQOL and WPAI (SELECT-EARLY). These changes were statistically significant with both doses of UPA vs MTX at Weeks 12/14 in both RCTs. Improvements were reported as early as week 2. Compared with MTX, more UPA-treated MTX-naïve and MTX-IR patients reported improvements greater than or equal to the minimum clinically important differences and scores greater than or equal to normative values. CONCLUSION: Among MTX-naïve and MTX-IR patients with active RA, UPA monotherapy at 15 or 30 mg for 12/14 weeks resulted in statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements in pain, physical function, morning stiffness, HRQOL and WPAI compared with MTX alone. Acoustic trauma damages inner ear neural structures including cochlear hair cells which result in hearing loss and neurotransmitter imbalances within the synapses of the central auditory pathway. Disruption of GABA/glutamate levels underlies, tinnitus, a phantom perception of sound that persists post-exposure to blast noise which may manifest in tandem with acute/chronic loss of hearing. Many putative theories explain tinnitus physiology based on indirect and direct assays in animal models and humans, although there is no comprehensive evidence to explain the phenomenon. Here, GABA/glutamate levels were imaged and quantified in a blast overpressure model of chinchillas using Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry imaging. The direct measurement from whole-brain sections identified the relative levels of GABA/glutamate in the central auditory neuraxis centers including the cochlear nucleus, inferior colliculus, and auditory cortex. These preliminary results provide insight on the homeostasis of GABA/glutamate within whole-brain sections of chinchilla for investigation of the pathomechanism of blast-induced tinnitus.

Here, we demonstrate facile [4 + 4] coordination-driven self-assembly of cyclometalated iridium(III) using linear aryldiisocyanide bridging ligands (BLs). A family of nine new [Ir(C^N)2(µ-BL)]44+ coordination cages is described, where C^N is the cyclometalating ligand-2-phenylpyridine (ppy), 2-phenylbenzothiazole (bt), or 1-phenylisoquinoline (piq)-and BL is the diisocyanide BL, with varying spacer lengths between the isocyanide binding sites. These supramolecular coordination compounds are prepared via a one-pot synthesis, with isolated yields of 40-83%. 1H NMR spectroscopy confirms the selective isolation of a single product, which is affirmed to be the M4L4 square by high-resolution mass spectrometry. Detailed photophysical studies were carried out to reveal the nature of the luminescent triplet states in these complexes. In most cases, phosphorescence arises from the [Ir(C^N)2]+ nodes, with the emission color determined by the cyclometalating ligand. However, in two cases, the lowest-energy triplet state resides on the aromatic core of the BL, and weak phosphorescence from that state is observed. This work shows that aromatic diisocyanide ligands enable coordination-driven assembly of inert iridium(III) nodes under mild conditions, producing supramolecular coordination complexes with desirable photophysical properties.

OBJECTIVE: To assess upadacitinib monotherapy versus methotrexate (MTX) in MTX-naïve Japanese patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) from the Phase 3 SELECT-EARLY study. METHODS: Japanese patients were randomized 2:1:1:1 to upadacitinib 7.5, 15, or 30 mg daily or MTX 7.5 mg/week (titrated to ≤15 mg/week). Efficacy endpoints included the proportion of patients reporting 20% improvement in American College of Rheumatology criteria (ACR20) at week 12 and change from baseline in modified Total Sharp Score (mTSS) at week 24. Other efficacy outcomes were also assessed at weeks 12 and/or 24. Safety was assessed over 24 weeks. RESULTS: Of 138 Japanese patients enrolled, significantly more patients treated with upadacitinib 7.5 and 15 mg, but not 30 mg, reported ACR20 responses versus MTX at week 12. Significantly smaller changes from baseline in mTSS were observed with upadacitinib 15 and 30 mg, but not 7.5 mg, versus MTX at week 24. Upadacitinib demonstrated an acceptable safety profile; herpes zoster occurred in 3.6%, 7.4%, and 7.1% of patients treated with upadacitinib 7.5, 15, and 30 mg, respectively. CONCLUSION: Similar to the global study population, upadacitinib demonstrated clinical efficacy superior to placebo in the Japanese subpopulation. Among upadacitinib-treated patients, herpes zoster was least common with 7.5 mg.

BACKGROUND: Upadacitinib, an oral Janus kinase (JAK)1-selective inhibitor, showed efficacy in combination with stable background conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (csDMARDs) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis who had an inadequate response to DMARDs. We aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of upadacitinib monotherapy after switching from methotrexate versus continuing methotrexate in patients with inadequate response to methotrexate. METHODS: SELECT-MONOTHERAPY was conducted at 138 sites in 24 countries. The study enrolled adults (≥18 years) who fulfilled the 2010 American College of Rheumatology (ACR)-European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) classification criteria for rheumatoid arthritis. Patients with active rheumatoid arthritis despite stable methotrexate were randomly assigned 2:2:1:1 to switch to once-daily monotherapy of of upadacitinib or to continue methotrexate at their existing dose as blinded study drug; starting from week 14, patients assigned to continue methotrexate were switched to 15 mg or 30 mg once-daily upadacitinib per prespecified random assignment at baseline. The primary endpoints in this report are proportion of patients achieving 20% improvement in the ACR criteria (ACR20) at week 14, and proportion achieving low disease activity defined as 28-joint Disease Activity Score using C-reactive protein (DAS28[CRP]) of 3·2 or lower, both with non-responder imputation at week 14. Outcomes were assessed in patients who received at least one dose of study drug. This study is active but not recruiting and is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT02706951. FINDINGS: Patients were screened between Feb 23, 2016, and May 19, 2017 and 648 were randomly assigned to treatment. 598 (92%) completed week 14. At week 14, an ACR20 response was achieved by 89 (41%) of 216 patients (95% CI 35-48) in the continued methotrexate group, 147 (68%) of 217 patients (62-74) receiving upadacitinib 15 mg, and 153 (71%) of 215 patients (65-77) receiving upadacitinib 30 mg (p<0·0001 for both doses vs continued methotrexate). DAS28(CRP) 3·2 or lower was met by 42 (19%) of 216 (95% CI 14-25) in the continued methotrexate group, 97 (45%) of 217 (38-51) receiving upadacitinib 15 mg, and 114 (53%) of 215 (46-60) receiving upadacitinib 30 mg (p<0·0001 for both doses vs continued methotrexate). Adverse events were reported in 102 patients (47%) on continued methotrexate, 103 (47%) on upadacitinib 15 mg, and 105 (49%) on upadacitinib 30 mg. Herpes zoster was reported by one (<1%) patient on continued methotrexate, three (1%) on upadacitinib 15 mg, and six (3%) on upadacitinib 30 mg. Three malignancies (one [<1%] on continued methotrexate, two [1%] on upadacitinib 15 mg), three adjudicated major adverse cardiovascular events (one [<1%] on upadacitinib 15 mg, two [<1%] on upadacitinib 30 mg), one adjudicated pulmonary embolism (<1%; upadacitinib 15 mg), and one death (<1%; upadacitinib 15 mg, haemorrhagic stroke [ruptured aneurysm]) were reported in the study. INTERPRETATION: Upadacitinib monotherapy showed statistically significant improvements in clinical and functional outcomes versus continuing methotrexate in this methotrexate inadequate-responder population. Safety observations were similar to those in previous upadacitinib rheumatoid arthritis studies. FUNDING: AbbVie Inc, USA.

The C/EBPα transcription factor is required for myelopoiesis, with prior observations suggesting additional contributions to B lymphopoiesis. Cebpa expression is evident in common lymphoid progenitor (CLP) and preproB cells but is absent in proB and preB cells. We previously observed that marrow lacking the Cebpa +37 kb enhancer is impaired in producing B cells upon competitive transplantation. Additionally, a Cebpa enhancer/promoter-hCD4 transgene is expressed in B/myeloid CFU. Extending these findings, pan-hematopoietic murine Cebpa enhancer deletion using Mx1-Cre leads to expanded CLP, fewer preproB cells, markedly reduced proB and preB cells, and reduced mature B cells, without affecting T cell numbers. In contrast, enhancer deletion at the proB stage using Mb1-Cre does not impair B cell maturation. Further evaluation of CLP reveals that the Cebpa transgene is expressed almost exclusively in Flt3+ multipotent CLP versus B cell-restricted Flt3- CLP. In vitro, hCD4+ preproB cells produce both B and myeloid cells, whereas hCD4- preproB cells only produce B cells. Additionally, a subset of hCD4- preproB cells express high levels of RAG1-GFP, as seen also in proB cells. Global gene expression analysis indicates that hCD4+ preproB cells express proliferative pathways, whereas B cell development and signal transduction pathways predominate in hCD4- preproB cells. Consistent with these changes, Cebpa enhancer-deleted preproB cells downmodulate cell cycle pathways while upregulating B cell signaling pathways. Collectively, these findings indicate that C/EBPα is required for Flt3+ CLP maturation into preproB cells and then for proliferative Cebpaint B/myeloid preproB cells to progress to Cebpalo B cell-restricted preproB cells and finally to Cebpaneg proB cells.

PURPOSE: The electroretinogram (ERG) has proven to be useful in the evaluation and monitoring of patients with posterior uveitis. ERG oscillatory potentials (OPs) are sometimes reduced in many uveitic eyes with otherwise grossly normal ERG responses. This study compares ERG parameters, including OPs, between patients with birdshot chorioretinopathy, other posterior uveitis, and controls. METHODS: This was a retrospective case-control study. Sixty-four patients seen at a clinical practice had a total of 93 visits during which ERG was performed on both eyes. ERG data from 93 age-matched controls were also collected. Root-mean-squared (RMS) energy of the OPs was calculated using Fourier analysis for 88 patients and 88 age-matched controls for whom complete data were available. Photopic flicker amplitudes, photopic flicker latencies, scotopic b-wave amplitudes, and OP RMS values were compared between patients and controls. Diagnostic performance was assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. RESULTS: The mean ages of patients and controls were 55.9 ± 10.8 (SD) years and 55.1 ± 11.5, respectively. 83% of the patients had a diagnosis of BCR. The mean OP RMS value was significantly different in patients (15.6 µV ± 9.7 µV) versus control eyes (33.0 µV ± 12.7 µV), p < 0.001. Area under the ROC curves (AUROC) was 0.75 for photopic flicker amplitudes, 0.77 for photopic flicker latencies, 0.72 for scotopic b-wave amplitudes, and 0.88 for OP RMS. AUROC was significantly different between OP RMS and photopic flicker amplitudes (p < 0.001), between OP RMS and flicker latencies (p = 0.0032), and between OP RMS and scotopic b-wave amplitudes (p < 0.0001). CONCLUSION: Analysis of OPs shows greater sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis and evaluation of patients with birdshot chorioretinopathy than photopic and scotopic ERG amplitudes and photopic flicker latencies.

RESUMEN

The derivation and maintenance of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) in stable naïve pluripotent states has a wide impact in human developmental biology. However, hPSCs are unstable in classical naïve mouse embryonic stem cell (ESC) WNT and MEK/ERK signal inhibition (2i) culture. We show that a broad repertoire of conventional hESC and transgene-independent human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) lines could be reverted to stable human preimplantation inner cell mass (ICM)-like naïve states with only WNT, MEK/ERK, and tankyrase inhibition (LIF-3i). LIF-3i-reverted hPSCs retained normal karyotypes and genomic imprints, and attained defining mouse ESC-like functional features, including high clonal self-renewal, independence from MEK/ERK signaling, dependence on JAK/STAT3 and BMP4 signaling, and naïve-specific transcriptional and epigenetic configurations. Tankyrase inhibition promoted a stable acquisition of a human preimplantation ICM-like ground state via modulation of WNT signaling, and was most efficacious in efficiently reprogrammed conventional hiPSCs. Importantly, naïve reversion of a broad repertoire of conventional hiPSCs reduced lineage-primed gene expression and significantly improved their multilineage differentiation capacities. Stable naïve hPSCs with reduced genetic variability and improved functional pluripotency will have great utility in regenerative medicine and human disease modeling.

RECENT FINDINGS: We review the benefits of sleep in the training of physicians, acknowledge the science and practice of quality, safety, professionalism and communication in clinical practice. SUMMARY: The talented physician has more than scientific knowledge and technical expertise; they must incorporate a commitment to patient safety, personal and colleague well being and a culture that is built on values of professional behavior.

RESUMEN

The majority of ocular adnexal lymphomas are B-cell in origin. We report two cases of T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL) involving the ocular adnexa. One patient presented with a painless pink conjunctival lesion and inferior orbital fullness. The second patient presented with a painless orbital mass. The diagnoses were confirmed by histopathology and immunohistochemistry. Both patients had extensive multifocal lesions during staging. Prompt intensified chemotherapy regimens were initiated. T-LBL is an aggressive disease with poor prognosis. This report emphasizes the importance of timely diagnosis by the ophthalmologist with co-management and treatment with an oncologist.

APOBEC3G (A3G) belongs to the AID/APOBEC protein family of cytidine deaminases (CDA) that bind to nucleic acids. A3G mutates the HIV genome by deamination of dC to dU, leading to accumulation of virus-inactivating mutations. Binding to cellular RNAs inhibits A3G binding to substrate single-stranded (ss) DNA and CDA activity. Bulk RNA and substrate ssDNA bind to the same three A3G tryptic peptides (amino acids 181-194, 314-320, and 345-374) that form parts of a continuously exposed protein surface extending from the catalytic domain in the C terminus of A3G to its N terminus. We show here that the A3G tyrosines 181 and 315 directly cross-linked ssDNA. Binding experiments showed that a Y315A mutation alone significantly reduced A3G binding to both ssDNA and RNA, whereas Y181A and Y182A mutations only moderately affected A3G nucleic acid binding. Consistent with these findings, the Y315A mutant exhibited little to no deaminase activity in an Escherichia coli DNA mutator reporter, whereas Y181A and Y182A mutants retained ∼50% of wild-type A3G activity. The Y315A mutant also showed a markedly reduced ability to assemble into viral particles and had reduced antiviral activity. In uninfected cells, the impaired RNA-binding capacity of Y315A was evident by a shift of A3G from high-molecular-mass ribonucleoprotein complexes to low-molecular-mass complexes. We conclude that Tyr-315 is essential for coordinating ssDNA interaction with or entry to the deaminase domain and hypothesize that RNA bound to Tyr-315 may be sufficient to competitively inhibit ssDNA deaminase-dependent antiviral activity.

The transcription factor C/EBPα is essential for myeloid differentiation and is frequently dysregulated in acute myeloid leukemia. Although studied extensively, the precise regulation of its gene by upstream factors has remained largely elusive. Here, we investigated its transcriptional activation during myeloid differentiation. We identified an evolutionarily conserved octameric sequence, CCCAGCAG, ∼100 bases upstream of the CEBPA transcription start site, and demonstrated through mutational analysis that this sequence is crucial for C/EBPα expression. This sequence is present in the genes encoding C/EBPα in humans, rodents, chickens, and frogs and is also present in the promoters of other C/EBP family members. We identified that ZNF143, the human homolog of the Xenopus transcriptional activator STAF, specifically binds to this 8-bp sequence to activate C/EBPα expression in myeloid cells through a mechanism that is distinct from that observed in liver cells and adipocytes. Altogether, our data suggest that ZNF143 plays an important role in the expression of C/EBPα in myeloid cells.

Light-emitting supramolecular coordination complexes (SCCs) have been widely studied for applications in the chemical and biological sciences. Herein, we report the coordination-driven self-assembly of two highly emissive platinum(II) supramolecular triangles (1 and 2) containing BODIPY-based bridging ligands. The metallacycles exhibit favorable anticancer activities against HeLa cells (IC50 of 6.41 and 2.11 µM). The characteristic ∼570 nm fluorescence of the boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) moieties in the metallacycles permits their intracellular visualization using confocal microscopy. Additionally, the BODIPY fluorophore is an excellent photodynamic agent, making the metallacycles as ideal therapeutics for photodynamic therapy (PDT) and chemotherapy. In vitro studies demonstrate that the combination indexes against HeLa cells are 0.56 and 0.48 for 1 and 2, respectively, confirming their synergistic anticancer effect. More importantly, these SCCs also exhibit superior anticancer efficacy toward cisplatin-resistant A2780cis cell line by combining PDT and chemotherapy, showing promise in overcoming drug resistance. This study exploits a multicomponent approach to self-assembled metallacages that enables design of effective theranostic agents wherein the platinum acceptors are toxic chemotherapeutics and the BODIPY donors are imaging probes and photosensitizers. Since each piece may be independently tuned, i.e., Pt(II) polypyridyl fragment swapped for Pt(II) phosphine, the activity may be optimized without a total redesign of the system.

High-grade gliomas harbor abundant myeloid cells that suppress anti-tumor immunity and support tumor growth. Targeting transcription factors, such as NF-κB p50, that mediate suppressive myeloid M2 polarization may prove therapeutic. GL261-Luc glioblastoma cells were inoculated into wild-type and p50-/- mice, followed by analysis of tumor growth, survival, tumor myeloid cells, and T cells. The absence of host p50 slows tumor growth and enables regression in 30% of recipients, leading to prolonged survival. Tumors developing in p50-/- mice possess a greater concentration of tumor-infiltrating myeloid cells (TIMs) than those in wild-type mice. TIMs are predominantly F4/80hi macrophages which, along with tumor-associated microglia, express increased pro-inflammatory M1 and reduced immune-suppressive M2 markers. In p50-/- mice, total tumor CD4 T cells are threefold more abundant, whereas CD8 T-cell numbers are unchanged, and both produce increased IFNγ and Granzyme B. Naïve splenic p50-/- CD8 T cells manifest increased activation, whereas naïve p50-/- and WT CD4 T cells show similar Th1, Th2, and Th17 polarization. Antibody targeting CD4, but not CD8, fully obviates the p50-/- survival advantage. Combined CD4 and CD8 T-cell depletion reverses myeloid M2 polarization in wild-type hosts, without affecting myeloid M1 polarization in p50-/- hosts. Finally, gliomas grow similarly in p50(f/f) and p50(f/f);Lysozyme-Cre mice, the latter having reduced p50 specifically in myeloid cells and tumor microglia. Thus, high-grade glioma T cells play a key role in directing M2 polarization of tumor myeloid cells, and reducing NF-κB p50 in both tumor myeloid cells and T cells may contribute to glioma therapy.

We report a suite of coordination-driven self-assembled prisms for heterogeneous electrocatalytic oxygen reduction (ORR) differing in the molecular clips linking two porphyrin faces in a cofacial arrangement. ORR activities and selectivities of monomeric CoTPyP along with cofacial prisms Ox-Co, Oxa-Co, and Benzo-Co were probed using cyclic voltammetry and rotating ring-disk techniques. All species were immobilized as heterogeneous catalysts on glassy carbon electrodes using a Nafion ink method. The selectivities of Ox-Co, Oxa-Co, and Benzo-Co prisms towards H2 O as determined by RRDE were 87, 97, and 75 %, respectively. The current density of the Oxa-Co plateaus at five times that of Pt/C when normalized per Co/Pt. The high synthetic yield (79 %), competitive overpotential (η ≈800 mV) and high selectivity (%H2 O ≈97 %) of the Oxa-Co highlights how self-assembly can be used to address multi-electron multi-proton transformations using polynuclear catalysts.
