Rapid progress in real-time measurement technology has uncovered varieties of transient pulse dynamics. Here, we report the vector nature of noise-like pulse (NLP) in a passive fiber laser based on the nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) as the polarization independent saturable absorber. After achieving the basic operation regime of NLP, various types of vector pulses, namely, the polarization locked noise-like vector pulse (PLNLVP), the group velocity locked noise-like vector pulse (GVLNLVP), and the transitional state of combined characteristics of GVLNLVP and polarization rotation noise-like vector pulse (PRNLVP) are also obtained in the cavity. Besides, by utilizing the Dispersive Fourier transform (DFT) technique, the spectral evolution and the energy vibration of pulsating PLNLVP, GVLNLVP, and the transitional state of combined characteristics of GVLNLVP and PRNLVP are also analyzed in real time. Particularly, the coexisting pulsation vector state of NLP and soliton is also captured. All these findings will help to complement our understanding of noise-like vector pulses (NLVPs) in a fiber laser.

BACKGROUND: This study investigated the predictive value of preoperative QRS duration (QRSd) in responsiveness of chronic heart failure (CHF) patients with pacemaker indications to the left bundle branch area pacing (LBBAP). METHODS: Thirty-one CHF patients with cardiac function categorized as NYHA class II or above and indications for pacemaker therapy who successfully underwent LBBAP treatment were enrolled in this study. Based on the 12-month postoperative responsiveness to treatment, patients were divided into a responsiveness group (N = 16) and a no-responsiveness group (N = 15). Data from all patients were collected for analysis. Multivariate binary logistic regression analysis was used to determine the independent factors associated with the responsiveness to LBBAP treatment. RESULTS: Among the 31 patients with LBBAP, 16 patients (51.6%) responded to the treatment, and 15 patients (48.4%) had no response. There were significant differences between the two groups with regard to complete left bundle branch block (CLBBB), preoperative QRSd, and preoperative left ventricular peak time (LVAT). Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that CLBBB, preoperative QRSd, and preoperative LVAT all were significantly correlated with responsiveness to LBBAP. Multivariate binary logistic regression analysis showed that QRSd was an independent predictor of responsiveness to LBBAP. The maximum area under the ROC curve for QRSd was 0.827 (95%C.I.:0.663-0.991), the maximum Youden index was 0.679, with the optimal cutoff point of QRSd ≥ 153 ms, a sensitivity of 81.3%, and a specificity of 86.7%. CONCLUSION: Preoperative QRSd predicts the responsiveness of CHF patients with pacemaker indications to LBBAP.

BACKGROUND: Studies have found that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play key roles in cardiovascular diseases. However, the function of circROBO2 in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the pathogenesis of circROBO2 in AMI. METHODS: qRT-PCR and Western blot were used to determine the expression levels of circROBO2, miR-1184, and TRADD in AMI and sham-operated mouse models at mRNA and protein level, respectively. The relationship among miR-1184, circROBO2 and TRADD was evaluated by RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) analysis and luciferase reporter gene analysis. The roles of circROBO2, miR-1184, and TRADD in myocardial cell apoptosis were evaluated using flow cytometry. Ultrasound echocardiography, serum creatine kinase MB (CK-MB) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), myocardial infarction area, and myocardial cell apoptosis were measured to examine the effects of circROBO2 on myocardial injury. RESULTS: The expression levels of miR-1184 were significantly reduced, and the expression levels of circROBO2 and TRADD were significantly increased in MI group. CircROBO2 acted as a sponge for miR-1184 by upregulating the expression of TRADD. In addition, overexpression of miR-1184 enhanced the protective effect of knockdown of circROBO2 by partially inhibiting the expression of TRADD in vivo and in vitro. CONCLUSION: Knockdown of circROBO2 reduced the apoptosis of cardiomyocytes by increasing the expression levels of miR-1184, which in turn decreased the expression levels of TRADD in the myocardium post-MI.

We theoretically and experimentally investigate the laser-detected magnetic resonance spectra dressed by a radio-frequency magnetic field in Fg = 4 of D1 line of cesium atoms. The analytical expression of the transmission spectrum for magnetic resonance dressed by a radio-frequency magnetic field is derived and has substantial agreement with the transmission spectra observed in the experiment. The theoretical prediction of the ratio of the amplitudes of the two sidebands with the detuning is basically consistent with the experimental data, which confirms the validity of the analytical expression. The separation between the two sidebands under resonance shows a highly linear proportion to the amplitude of the dressing field, which may provide a useful scheme for the measurement of radio-frequency magnetic field and magnetic imaging.

Negative linear compressibility (NLC) is a common sense violation (that is, crystal phases expand in one or more directions under hydrostatic compression). The excellent NLC performance of crystal materials is intrinsically related to the geometric structure of its skeleton. Here, we discovered a crystalline porous organic salt (CPOS-1); high-pressure X-ray diffraction experiments reveal that the CPOS-1 shows colossal NLC (Kc = -90.7 T Pa-1) behavior along the c axis. This incredible performance arises from the flexible "supramolecular spring" formed by the charge-enhanced N-H+···-O-S hydrogen bond interaction between the anionic sulfonate and the cationic ammonium ion. Furthermore, we reveal the relationship between this rare NLC behavior and single crystal proton conductivity using high-pressure electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) method. We believe that NLC behavior research on such inexpensive and readily available porous organic materials is of great significance for accelerating the research and application of NLC materials, especially in organic system.

The mechanisms underlying the lineage switching from prostate adenocarcinoma (AdPC) to lethal neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) have yet to be completely elucidated. In this study, RNA sequencing data from a unique patient-derived xenograft NEPC model and a clinical NEPC cohort were used to identify the potential genes driving NEPC progression. Enrichr analysis resulted in the identification of SRY-related HMG-box gene 2 (SOX2) as a potential repressor that causes decrease in the expression of AdPC specific genes in NEPC. Assays involving the stable overexpression of SOX2 in LNCaP and CWR22RV1 cells validated this role of SOX2 in vitro. Mechanistic studies showed that the repressor role of SOX2 was attributed to the marked global hypomethylation of histone H3, which was driven by the activation of lysine-specific demethylase 1 (LSD1). Furthermore, Enrichr also predicted SOX2 as a driver gene involved in the upregulation of NEPC specific genes. However, SOX2 alone could only marginally induce the expression of some neuroendocrine markers in vitro, which was consistent with previous reports. Moreover, we also elucidated the molecular features of LNCaP-SOX2 cells that may confer resistance to androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT) and the inclination toward neuroendocrine transdifferentiation. The results of this study reveal a novel mechanism for SOX2 in the progression of NEPC via LSD1-mediated global epigenetic modulation. This discovery suggests that LSD1 may be a selective target for the prevention of NEPC progression.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the effectiveness of the GnRH-a ultra-long protocol, GnRH-a long protocol, and GnRH-a short protocol used in in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) in infertile women with endometriosis. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Elsevier Science Direct, OA Library, Google Scholar, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, China Science and Technology Journal database, and the China Biology Medicine disc for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies (non-RCTs) to evaluate the efficacy of the GnRH-a ultra-long protocol, GnRH-a long protocol, and GnRH-a short protocol in IVF-ET in infertile patients with endometriosis. RESULTS: A total of 21 studies in compliance with the standard literature were included, and RCT and non-RCT studies were analyzed separately. This meta-analysis showed that the GnRH-a ultra-long protocol could improve the clinical pregnancy rate of infertile patients in RCT studies, especially in patients with stages III-IV endometriosis (RR = 2.04, 95% CI: 1.37~3.04, P < 0.05). However, subgroup analysis found the different down-regulation protocols provided no significant difference in improving clinical outcomes in patients with endometriosis in the non-RCT studies. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that the GnRH-a ultra-long protocol can improve the clinical pregnancy rate of the patients with stages III-IV endometriosis in RCT studies. Although it is generally believed that the results of RCT are more reliable, the conclusions of the non-RCT studies cannot be easily neglect, which let us draw conclusions more cautious.

Periodontitis is one of the risk factors associated with peripheral artery disease. This meta-analysis evaluates how periodontitis contributes to the pathogenesis and progression of peripheral artery disease. We systematically searched electronic databases Ovid Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library and Pubmed. Grey literature was also searched via Google Scholar. All studies evaluating the relationship between the incidence of periodontitis and peripheral artery disease were included. Subgroup analyses of carotid artery disease and lower extremity arterial disease were also conducted. Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were pooled and analyzed. The I² statistic was used to evaluate heterogeneity. Within a total of 25 studies, including 22,090 participants based on eligibility criteria, the incidence of peripheral artery disease was significantly higher among those with periodontitis (OR: 1.60, 95% CI 1.41-1.82, P < 0.001, I² = 80.5%). In subgroup analysis, periodontitis was still a risk for lower extremity arterial disease (OR: 3.00, 95% CI 2.23-4.04, P < 0.001, I² = 0%) and carotid artery disease (OR: 1.39, 95% CI 1.24-1.56, P < 0.001, I² = 79.4%). Periodontitis is significantly associated with the incidence of lower extremity arterial disease and carotid artery disease.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine the anatomical variations of the superior transverse scapular ligament (STSL) for better understanding the possible predisposing factors for suprascapular nerve entrapment. METHODS: The study was using fifty 10% formalin solution-fixed human cadaveric shoulders. After dissection of the suprascapular region, the length, medial width, lateral width and middle width of the suprascapular opening were measured for each STSL. RESULTS: The STSL displayed six types as: (1) band-shaped in 11 cases; (2) fan-shaped in 27 cases; (3) triangular-shaped in 5 cases; (4) linear type in 2 cases; (5) bifid in 1 case; (6) absent in 1 case. The ossified type of STSL was found in 3 cases. There were statistically significant differences in the length (P = 0.009), medial width (P = 0.001), lateral width (P = 0.029) of the three types of fan-shaped, band-shaped and triangular-shaped. However, there was no statistical difference in the middle width of the suprascapular opening of the three types (P = 0.340). CONCLUSION: Knowing the morphological features and variations of the STSL is important for better understanding the anatomical conditions, which could be taken into consideration during open suprascapular operations or arthroscopic decompressions.

The radiofrequency-optical double magnetic resonance in cesium atoms filled in a vapor cell is investigated experimentally. One resonant signal involving spin-exchange collisions is observed in the MZ type magnetic resonance spectrum. We solve Liouville equations describing the dynamics of the system and analyze the role of the spin-exchange collisions in the atomic population distributions under resonant conditions. The theoretical calculations agree very well with the experimental results. In contrast with the normal magnetic resonance, the collision induced magnetic resonance exhibits the interesting saturation effect: both the signal amplitude and the signal linewidth are nearly constant when the laser intensity is above a moderate threshold value, which can be useful for precision measurements of the geomagnetic field.

Leydig cells are essential for male reproductive development throughout life. Production of androgens as well as intermediate steroids is tightly regulated. Although microRNAs (miRNAs) are suggested to play important roles in spermatogenesis, little is currently known regarding the regulation of steroidogenesis by miRNAs in Leydig cells. Here, we found that miR-150 was predominantly expressed in Leydig cells within mouse testis. Therefore, we determined steroidogenesis of the Leydig cells in which miR-150 was knocked down or overexpressed using miR-150 antagomir and agomir, respectively. Compared with negative control group, a significant increase of STAR expression was observed in miR-150 antagomir-treated Leydig cells. Conversely, STAR expression was significantly reduced in miR-150 agomir-transfected Leydig cells. Production of sex-steroid precursors and testosterone of Leydig cells was also negatively controlled by miR-150. We further identified Star as a target of miR-150 using luciferase reporter assay. Finally, we confirmed that miR-150 was necessary for steroidogenesis and spermatogenesis in vivo via intratesticular injection of miR-150 antagomir or agomir. Taken together, our studies suggest that miR-150 negatively regulates the expression of STAR and steroidogenesis of Leydig cells in mice.

The inter-comparison of MODIS reflective solar bands onboard Aqua and Terra is very important for assessment of each instrument's calibration. One of the limitations is the lack of simultaneous nadir overpasses. Their measurements over a selected Earth view target have significant differences in solar and view angles, which magnify the effects of atmospheric scattering and Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF). In this work, an inter-comparison technique is formulated after correction for site's BRDF and atmospheric effects. The reflectance measurements over Libya desert sites 1, 2, and 4 from both the Aqua and Terra MODIS are regressed to a BRDF model with an adjustable coefficient accounting for calibration difference. The ratio between Aqua and Terra reflectance measurements are derived for bands 1 to 9 and the results from different sites show good agreement. For year 2003, the ratios are in the range of 0.985 to 1.010 for band 1 to 9. Band 3 shows the lowest ratio 0.985 and band 1shows the highest ratio 1.010. For the year 2014, the ratio ranges from approximately 0.983 for bands 2 and 1.012 for band 8. The BRDF corrected reflectance for the two instruments are also derived for every year from 2003 to 2014 for stability assessment. Bands 1 and 2 show greater than 1% differences between the two instruments. Aqua bands 1 and 2 show downward trends while Terra bands 1 and 2 show upward trends. Bands 8 and 9 of both Aqua and Terra show large variations of reflectance measurement over time.

Crustacean hyperglycemic hormone (CHH) is a neurohormone found only in arthropods that plays a pivotal role in the regulation of hemolymph glucose levels, molting and stress responses. Although it was determined that a membrane guanylyl cyclase (GC) acts as the CHH receptor in the Y-organ during ecdysteroidogenesis, the identity of the CHH receptor in the hepatopancreas has not been established. In this study, we identified CHH binding protein (CHHBP), as a potential receptor by screening the annotated unigenes from the transcriptome of ITALIC! Eriocheir sinensis, after removal of the eyestalk. Analysis of the binding affinity between CHH and CHHBP provided direct evidence that CHH interacts with CHHBP in a specific binding mode. Subsequent analysis showed that CHHBP is expressed primarily in the hepatopancreas where it localizes to the cell membrane. In addition, real-time PCR analysis showed that ITALIC! CHHBPtranscript levels gradually increase in the hepatopancreas following eyestalk ablation. RNAi-mediated suppression of ITALIC! CHHBPexpression resulted in decreased glucose levels. Furthermore, the reduction of blood glucose induced by ITALIC! CHHBPRNAi reached the same level as that observed in the eyestalk ablation group, suggesting that CHHBP is involved in glucose metabolism regulated by CHH. In addition, compared with the control group, injection of CHH was unable to rescue the decreased glucose levels in ITALIC! CHHBPRNAi crabs. CHH induced transport of 2-NBDG to the outside of cells, with indispensable assistance from CHHBP. Taken together, these findings suggest that CHHBP acts as one type of the primary signal processor of CHH-mediated regulation of cellular glucose metabolism.

The increasing interest in filter pruning of convolutional neural networks stems from its inherent ability to effectively compress and accelerate these networks. Currently, filter pruning is mainly divided into two schools: norm-based and relation-based. These methods aim to selectively remove the least important filters according to predefined rules. However, the limitations of these methods lie in the inadequate consideration of filter diversity and the impact of batch normalization (BN) layers on the input of the next layer, which may lead to performance degradation. To address the above limitations of norm-based and similarity-based methods, this study conducts empirical analyses to reveal their drawbacks and subsequently introduces a groundbreaking complex hybrid weighted pruning method. By evaluating the correlations and norms between individual filters, as well as the parameters of the BN layer, our method effectively identifies and prunes the most redundant filters in a robust manner, thereby avoiding significant decreases in network performance. We conducted comprehensive and direct pruning experiments on different depths of ResNet using publicly available image classification datasets, ImageNet and CIFAR-10. The results demonstrate the significant efficacy of our approach. In particular, when applied to the ResNet-50 on the ImageNet dataset, achieves a significant reduction of 53.5% in floating-point operations, with a performance loss of only 0.6%.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The diagnostic standard of coronary artery disease (CAD) is coronary angiography (CAG). Since CAG is an invasive procedure underscores the need for identifying non-invasive, effective, and innovative biomarkers. Our study aimed to retrospectively analyze hematological markers for predicting the severity of CAD. METHODS AND RESULTS: Case data were collected from 195 CAD patients admitted to the hospital for CAG. According to Gensini score, patients were divided into mild, moderate, and severe CAD groups. Blood indexes and predictive efficacy of the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index were retrospectively analyzed. Among 195 CAD patients, 81 had mild CAD, 60 had moderate CAD, and 54 had severe CAD. Sex, fast blood glucose (FBG), TyG index, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) significantly differed among the three groups. The TyG index demonstrated higher values in patients with moderate (9.07[8.62-9.44]) and severe (8.98[8.46-9.45]) CAD compared to those with mild CAD (8.75[8.49-9.14]). The AUC of the TyG index was 0.615 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.536-0.694, P =.004), with a cut-off value of 8.997, specificity of 0.704, and sensitivity of 0.535. Logistics analysis showed the risk of moderate and severe CAD with an odds ratio (OR) value of 2.595 (95% CI: 1.199-5.619, adjusted P = .016) following regrouping by the TyG index optimal cut-off value of 8.997. The TyG index combined with FBG and hs-CRP had an elevated AUC value, significantly higher than other combinations (P = .011 and 0.02, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The severity of CAD is positively correlated with an increased TyG index value. A combination of TyG, FBG, and hs-CRP has demonstrated improved diagnostic efficiency, suggesting its potential as a novel indicator for predicting and diagnosing CAD progression.

The escalating demand for processed foods has led to the widespread industrial use of glucose isomerase (GI) for high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) production. This reliance on GIs necessitates continual Co2+ supplementation to sustain high catalytic activity across multiple reaction cycles. In this study, Serratia marcescens GI (SmGI) was immobilized onto surfaces of the metal-organic framework (MOF) material MOF (Co)-525 to generate MOF (Co)-525-GI for use in catalyzing glucose isomerization to generate fructose. Examination of MOF (Co)-525-GI structural features using scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and ultraviolet spectroscopy revealed no structural changes after SmGI immobilization and the addition of Co2+. Notably, MOF (Co)-525-GI exhibited optimal catalytic activity at pH 7.5 and 70 °C, with a maximum reaction rate (Vmax) of 37.24 ± 1.91 µM/min and Km value of 46.25 ± 3.03 mM observed. Remarkably, immobilized SmGI exhibited sustained high catalytic activity over multiple cycles without continuous Co2+ infusion, retaining its molecular structure and 96.38% of its initial activity after six reaction cycles. These results underscore the potential of MOF (Co)-525-GI to serve as a safer and more efficient immobilized enzyme technology compared to traditional GI-based food-processing technologies.

BACKGROUND: Extent of resection (EOR) in glioma contributes to longer survival. The purpose of NCT01479686 was to prove whether intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) increases EOR in glioma surgery and benefit survival. METHODS: Patients were randomized (1:1) to receive the iMRI (n = 161) or the conventional neuronavigation (n = 160). The primary endpoint was gross total resection (GTR); secondary outcomes reported were progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and safety. RESULTS: 188 high-grade gliomas (HGGs) and 133 low-grade gliomas (LGGs) were enrolled. GTR was 83.85% in the iMRI group vs. 50.00% in the control group (P < 0.0001). In 321 patients, the median PFS (mPFS) was 65.12 months in the iMRI group and 61.01 months in the control group (P = 0.0202). For HGGs, mPFS was improved in the iMRI group (19.32 vs. 13.34 months, P = 0.0015), and a trend of superior OS compared with control was observed (29.73 vs. 25.33 months, P = 0.1233). In the predefined eloquent area HGG subgroup, mPFS, and mOS were 20.47 months and 33.58 months in the iMRI vs. 12.21 months and 21.16 months in the control group (P = 0.0098; P = 0.0375, respectively). From the exploratory analyses of HGGs, residual tumor volume (TV) < 1.0 cm3 decreased the risk of survival (mPFS: 18.99 vs. 9.43 months, P = 0.0055; mOS: 29.77 vs. 18.10 months, P = 0.0042). LGGs with preoperative (pre-OP) TV > 43.1 cm3 and postoperative (post-OP) TV > 4.6 cm3 showed worse OS (P= 0.0117) CONCLUSIONS: It showed that iMRI significantly increased EOR and indicated survival benefits for HGGs, particularly eloquent HGGs. Residual TV in either HGGs or LGGs is a prognostic factor for survival.

Toll-like receptor (TLR) is believed to play crucial role in host defense of pathogenic microbes in innate immune system. In the present study, the full-length cDNA of Paralichthys olivaceus Toll-like receptor 21 (Po-TLR21) was cloned by homology cloning and rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) technique. The Po-TLR21 cDNA sequence was 3687 bp, containing an open reading frame of 2922 bp encoding 973 amino acids. TMHMM and SMART program analysis indicated that protein contained one transmembrane domain, eighteen leucine-rich repeats (LRRs), and one Toll/IL-1 receptor homology domain (TIR). Multiple alignment analysis of the Po-TLR21 protein-coding sequence with other known TLR21 from grouper, pufferfish, zebrafish, cod, catfish, carp and chicken showed the homology of 67%, 63%, 54%, 52%, 51%, 49%, and 39%, respectively. The Po-TLR21 mRNA expression patterns were measured by real-time PCR. The results revealed that TLR21 is widely expressed in various tested healthy tissues, and highly expressed in spleen and gill. In vivo immunostimulation experiments revealed that expression of TLR21 is modulated by Vibrio anguillarum (V. anguillarum), CpG oligodeoxynucleotides (CpG ODN) and poly I:C. Moreover, the inhibitor of homodimerization of myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) could significantly reduce the up-regulation of TLR21, MyD88, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) expression in CpG ODN or poly I:C-treated head kidney cells in vitro. These results indicate that TLR21 may be involved in the pathogen recognition in the early innate immune.

The transglutaminase (TGase) family catalyzes a transamidation reaction between glutamine (Gln) and lysine (Lys) residues on protein substrates. Highly active substrates are important for cross-linking and modifying proteins of TGase. In the present work, high-activity substrates have been designed based on the principles of enzyme-substrate interaction, using microbial transglutaminase (mTGase) as a research model of the TGase family. Substrates with high activity were screened using a combination of molecular docking and traditional experiments. Twenty-four sets of peptide substrates all produced good catalytic activity with mTGase. FFKKAYAV as the acyl acceptor and VLQRAY as the acyl donor group had the best reaction efficiency with highly sensitive detection of 26 nM mTGase. In addition, the substrate grouping, KAYAV and AFQSAY, detected 130 nM mTGase under physiological conditions (37 °C, pH 7.4), producing 20-fold higher activity than the natural substrate, collagen. The experimental results confirmed the potential for design of high-activity substrates by a combination of molecular docking and traditional experiments under physiological conditions.

Aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) in firefighting foam can effectively extinguish oil fire. However, AFFF will be phased out due to the presence of persistent organic pollutants such as perfluorooctane sulfonates. It is necessary to explore environment-friendly foam extinguishing agent. Silicone surfactant is a kind of environmentally friendly surfactants with high surface activity, which can be used as a substitute for fluorocarbon surfactant. In this study, silicone surfactant and cationic surfactant were combined to adsorb nanosilica particles to form a multiphase system. The foaming property and foam stability of the multiphase system were tested by stirring method. The foam suppression effect on fuel vapor, fire extinguishing, and burn-back performance was tested by self-designed foam suppression device and foam generating device of porous glass with recyclable liquid supply. The experimental results show that foam stability is enhanced and the foaming property is slightly decreased after the addition of nanoparticles. When the component of three-phase foam reaches the optimum, its suppression effect on fuel vapor is better than that of two-phase foam. The results of fire extinguishing and burn-back performance test showed that the fire extinguishing effect of three-phase foam was slightly worse than that of AFFF, but it has extremely strong burn-back performance.
