RESUMEN
Poultry, a vital economic animal, provide a high-quality protein source for human nutrition. Over the past decade, the poultry industry has witnessed substantial achievements in breeding, precision feeding, and welfare farming. However, there are still many challenges restricting the sustainable development of the poultry industry. First, overly focused breeding strategies on production performance have been shown to induce metabolic diseases in poultry. Second, a lack of robust methods for assessing the nutritional requirements poses a challenge to the practical implementation of precision feeding. Third, antibiotic alternatives and feed safety management remain pressing concerns within the poultry industry. Lastly, environmental pollution and inadequate welfare management in farming have a negative effect on poultry health. Despite numerous proposed strategies and innovative approaches, each faces its own set of strengths and limitations. In this review, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the poultry industry over the past decade, by examining its achievements, challenges, and strategies, to guide its future direction.
RESUMEN
A broad light-harvesting range and efficient charge separation are two main ways to enhance the visible photocatalytic performance of semiconductors. Herein, an ionic porphyrin MOF [In(TPyP)]·(NO3) (1) (TPyP = 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-pyridyl)-21H,23H-porphyrin) was synthesized via in situ metalation. The orderly arranged porphyrin photosensitizer and the internal electric field between the MOF host and NO3- guests enable effective visible light response and electron-hole separation. Consequently, the as-synthesized MOF shows efficient photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B (RhB), methyl orange (MO) and methylene blue (MB) organic pollutants. It can degrade 99.07% of RhB within only 20 minutes under visible light irradiation (λ > 420 nm) with a high chemical reaction rate constant of 0.2400 min-1. The photocatalytic activity of the title MOF is more efficient than those of other reported MOFs, COFs and even inorganic semiconductors. The reusability, energy level, band gap, charge distribution and main degradation mechanisms of the photocatalyst were well studied.
RESUMEN
With the increase in the medical level, the improvement of adverse drug reaction(ADR) monitoring systems, and the enhancement of public awareness of safe medication, drug safety incidents have been frequently reported. Drug-induced liver injury(DILI), especially liver injury attributed to herbal and dietary supplements(HDS), has globally attracted high attention, bringing great threats and severe challenges to the people for drug safety management such as clinical medication and medical supervision. Consensus on drug-induced liver injury had been published by the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences(CIOMS) in 2020. In this consensus, liver injury attributed to HDS was included in a special chapter for the first time. The hot topics, including the definition of HDS-induced liver injury, epidemiological history, potential risk factors, collection of related risk signals, causality assessment, risk prevention, control and management were discussed from a global perspective. Based on the previous works, some experts from China were invited by CIOMS to undertake the compilation of this chapter. Meanwhile, a new causality assessment in DILI based on the integrated evidence chain(iEC) method was widely recognized by experts in China and abroad, and was recommended by this consensus. This paper briefly introduced the main contents, background, and characteristics of the Consensus on drug-induced liver injury. Significantly, a brief interpretation was illustrated to analyze the special highlights of Chapter 8, "Liver injury attributed to HDS", so as to provide practical references for the medical staff and the researchers who worked on either Chinese or Western medicine in China.

BACKGROUND: The widely used Air Quality Index (AQI) has been criticized due to its inaccuracy, leading to the development of the air quality health index (AQHI), an improvement on the AQI. However, there is currently no consensus on the most appropriate construction strategy for the AQHI. OBJECTIVES: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the utility of AQHIs constructed by different models and health outcomes, and determine a better strategy. METHODS: Based on the daily time-series outpatient visits and hospital admissions from 299 hospitals (January 2016-December 2018), and mortality (January 2017-December 2019) in Guangzhou, China, we utilized cumulative risk index (CRI) method, Bayesian multi-pollutant weighted (BMW) model and standard method to construct AQHIs for different health outcomes. The effectiveness of AQHIs constructed by different strategies was evaluated by a two-stage validation analysis and examined their exposure-response relationships with the cause-specific morbidity and mortality. RESULTS: Validation by different models showed that AQHI constructed with the BMW model (BMW-AQHI) had the strongest association with the health outcome either in the total population or subpopulation among air quality indexes, followed by AQHI constructed with the CRI method (CRI-AQHI), then common AQHI and AQI. Further validation by different health outcomes showed that AQHI constructed with the risk of outpatient visits generally exhibited the highest utility in presenting mortality and morbidity, followed by AQHI constructed with the risk of hospitalizations, then mortality-based AQHI and AQI. The contributions of NO2 and O3 to the final AQHI were prominent, while the contribution of SO2 and PM2.5 were relatively small. CONCLUSIONS: The BMW model is likely to be more effective for AQHI construction than CRI and standard methods. Based on the BMW model, the AQHI constructed with the outpatient data may be more effective in presenting short-term health risks associated with the co-exposure to air pollutants than the mortality-based AQHI and existing AQIs.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the risk of liver-related adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in children and adults. STUDY DESIGN: A case/non-case analysis on spontaneous reports based on the China National Adverse Drug Reactions Monitoring System database were conducted, focusing on events of liver-related ADRs in children younger than 14 years of age. Both the relative risk of liver-related ADRs in children vs entire population and the risk stratification in children were expressed as a measure of disproportionality using the reporting odds ratio (ROR). RESULTS: There were 1206 cases of pediatric liver-related ADRs identified from 2012 to 2016, accounting for 2.82% of the entire population. The greatest ROR values in children from 0 to 14 years vs the entire population were observed for analgesics (3.97, 95% CI 3.27-4.81), respiratory (2.60, 95% CI 1.04-6.43), antineoplastic (2.29, 95% CI 2.02-2.58), immunomodulatory (1.91, 95% CI 1.44-2.53), and antimicrobial agents (1.47, 95% CI 1.33-1.63). Notably, infants aged 0-1 years showed significantly greater risk (3.14, 95% CI 2.85-3.48) of liver-related ADRs than the other age groups of children. For infants, analgesics (3.21, 95% CI 2.20-4.66) and antimicrobials (3.15, 95% CI 2.50-3.97) agents were found to have the greatest adjusted RORs than other drug categories. The highest RORs were found for meropenem, amoxicillin, fluconazole, vancomycin, cefaclor, and ceftazidime in the antimicrobial agents for infants. CONCLUSIONS: Children are sensitive to liver-related ADRs caused by several specific drug categories, and infants are the most sensitive.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have indicated that exposure to green space may benefit human health. However, the available evidence concerning the effects of greenness, especially school-based greenness, on pediatric obesity is scarce. OBJECTIVE: To explore the association between school-based greenness and adiposity in children and adolescents in China. METHOD: We conducted a nationwide cross-sectional study of 56,620 children and adolescents (aged 6-18 years) in seven provinces/municipalities across China. School-based greenness was assessed using satellite-derived Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI) within 100-, 500-, and 1000-m circular buffers around each school's address. Generalized linear mixed regression models were used to estimate associations of greenness with BMI z-scores (zBMI), waist circumference, and prevalent overweight/obesity. We also explored the potential mediating role of ambient air pollution and physical activity in the greenness-adiposity associations. RESULT: In the adjusted model, an IQR increase in NDVI-1000m was associated with lower zBMI (ß: -0.11, 95% confidence interval[CI]: -0.13,-0.09) and waist circumference (ß: -0.64, 95%CI: -0.78,-0.50). Consistently, an IQR increase in NDVI-100m, NDVI-500m, NDVI-1000m was associated with 7-20% lower odds of overweight/obesity in the adjusted models. Air pollutants mediated 6.5-29.1% of the association between greenness and zBMI. No significant mediation effect was observed for physical activity. CONCLUSION: Higher school-based greenness levels were associated with lower zBMI, waist circumference, and lower odds of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents. Ambient air pollutants may partially mediate the greenness-adiposity associations.

A total of 1 392 reports on liver injury associated adverse drug reaction(LI-ADR) related to bone diseases were retrospectively analyzed based on national ADR monitoring system [18.75% of the patients used traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) alone and 68.68% used Western medicine alone]. This kind of cases accounted for 2.5% of all drug-related liver injury adverse reactions, ranking top ten of all drug categories. The number of reported cases and the proportion of serious cases showed an increasing trend from 2012 to 2016. The average age of the patients was(54.2±15.8) years old, and there was little difference in overall gender(male-female 1.04â¶1). However, the number of female patients with rheumatoid arthritis was significantly higher than that of male patients(male-female 1â¶2.6), while the number of male patients with gout was significantly higher than that of female patients(male-female 7.16â¶1). The overall prognosis was good, with the recovery and improvement rate of 85.27%. The time from medication to liver injury varied due to different medicines. The median time to liver injury was 27 days in TCM alone group, later than 11 days in Western me-dicine alone group(P<0.05). Drugs for bone diseases have been one of the important categories for clinical drug-induced liver injury, and the number of reported cases on liver injury caused by drugs for bone diseases is increasing, so we should pay close attention to the safe and rational use of them. The LI-ADRs of male and female were different due to their different diseases, and the latency of adverse reactions in TCM group was generally longer than that in Western medicine group. In clinical medication, liver function should be monitored according to different diseases and characteristics of drugs to prevent the risk of liver injury.

The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) is raging in China and more than 20 other countries and regions since the middle of December 2019. Currently, there is no specific drug or vaccine besides symptomatic supportive therapy. Taking full advantage of the clinical experience of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) in preventing and controlling major epidemics such as SARS, it is an important mission for TCM to propose effective formula with immediate response and solid evidence by using modern biomedical knowledge and techniques(molecular docking assisted TCM formulation for short). In view of the high homology between the gene sequences of the novel coronavirus and SARS virus, and the similarities between the two in terms of pathogenic mechanism and clinical manifestations, our team established a rapid screening and optimization model for the prevention and treatment of the novel coronavirus based on clinical experience and molecular docking technology. Firstly, the clinical team and the research team pre-developed and screened TCM formula by using "back-to-back" manner. Then, the formula was optimized and determined by comparing and analyzing the results of the two groups. The results showed that the research team screened out 46 active ingredients from candidate TCMs that could act on the novel coronavirus S-protein-binding site of human ACE2 protein, which were mainly attributed to 7 herbs such as Lonicerae Japonicae Flos and Mori Folium. The result was largely consistent with the formula raised by the clinical group, verifying and supporting its rationality. This provides evidence for the scientific and potential efficacy of the TCM prescription from the perspective of treatment target analysis, and also suggests that the TCM prescription has the potential to directly inhibit viral infection in addition to improving clinical symptoms or syndromes. Based on this, our team optimized and formed a new anti-coronavirus TCM prescription "Keguan Yihao", immediately providing the TCM prescription with certain clinical experience and objective evidence support for the prevention and treatment of new emergent infectious diseases in our hospital. The TCM prescription was combined with modern medicine symptomatic supportive treatment for clinical treatment, preliminary results showed better effect than symptomatic supportive therapy alone. This research has innovated the method mode in clinical practice and basic research integration of traditional Chinese medicine for the prevention and control of new emerging infectious diseases. It is of great significance to further improve the rapid response mechanism of TCM in face of major epidemics, and further improve the capability level of TCM to prevent and treat new emerging infectious diseases.

In this paper, the case reports on rug-induced liver injury( ADR cases) related to Gukang Capsules containing Psoralea corylifolia( Buguzhi,BGZ) were collected from the adverse reaction monitoring database from January 1,2012 to December 31,2016,and the in-patients cases with drug-induced liver injury admitted to a tertiary Class A liver disease hospital from January 1,2010 to December 31,2016 were also collected. These collected cases were re-evaluated and analyzed. 110 cases with liver injury related to this preparation were collected from adverse reaction monitoring database, and 55 cases of them received the preparation alone, mainly for fracture treatment( 52. 74%). Ninty one cases( 82. 72%) met the standard of the biochemical diagnostic criteria for drug-induced liver injury. 89. 01% of patients were over the age of 41 and women accounted for 60. 9%. The time from administration to liver injury was 1-208 days, with the median of 29 d. The dose of the preparation was 2. 4-4. 8 g per day, with a cumulative dose ranging from 3. 6-699. 6 g. The recovery and improvement rate reached 96. 70% after positive treatment. Seven inpatient cases related to the preparation were collected in a tertiary Class A liver disease hospital,6 females and 1 male. All of them were over 40 years old. Two cases reached the " suspicious diagnosis" standard and 5 cases reached the " clinical diagnosis" standard in Guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of herb-induced liver injury. Six patients had a good prognosis effect, but another one had liver failure. This preparation is commonly used in fracture, osteoarthritis and other diseases, with remarkable curative effect. However,ADR cases and hospital cases all indicated the risk of liver injury. There was no significant correlation between the time and dose of drug use and the occurrence of liver injury. The induced-liver injury may have immunological heterogeneity, thus regular monitoring of liver function should be taken during clinical use.

A retrospective study was performed in drug-induced liver injury(DILI) cases associated with Dictamni Cortex(Baixianpi,BXP) Preparations, which were treated at grade â ¢ class A liver disease hospitals from 2008 to 2016 and spontaneously reported for adverse reactions between 2012 and 2016 at HILI Cloud(hilicloud.net). The results showed 25 DLII cases associated with BXP Preparations treated at grade â ¢ class A liver disease hospitals during the 9 years, including only 14 cases in line with the clinical diagnostic criteria of Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Herb-Induced Liver Injury. And 74 DILI cases associated with BXP Preparations spontaneously reports adverse reactions, and 18. 92% of them had unreasonable medication, including polypharmacy(21. 43%),overdose(28. 57%) and repeated dosage(50%). And 47 DILI cases used BXP Preparations to treat psoriasis and vitiligo(a total of59. 57%). The time range of taking BXP Preparations until liver injury occurred was 1-366 d,with the median of 18 d. The dose of BXP Preparations was estimated to be 0. 09-12 g·d-1. And the cumulative dosage of taking drugs until liver injury occurred was 1. 1-336 g. Obvious associations with time-toxicity as well as quantity-toxicity could not be found based on the wide range of time-toxicity relations and quantity-toxicity relations. On the basis of the study,we found that DILI cases associated with BXP Preparations commonly occurred in patients with immune diseases, such as psoriasis and vitiligo, indicating specific individual differences. The results suggested that DILI cases associated with BXP Preparations would be correlated with the property of idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury. In conclusion, the risk of liver injury clinically caused by BXP Preparations should be paid more attention, and the studies on the mechanism of idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury must be enhanced, and those on risk factors, like irrational drug use, should be strengthened. Moreover, the evaluation of the risk-to-benefit ratio is supposed to be performed for the sake of improving the risk prevention and control standards for BXP preparations, and ensuring safe and rational clinical application of BXP Preparations.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is mainly caused by increased prostatic smooth muscle (SM) tone and volume. SM myosin (SMM) and non-muscle myosin (NMM) play important roles in mediating SM tone and cell proliferation, but these molecules have been less studied in the prostate. Rat prostate and cultured primary human prostate SM and epithelial cells were utilized. In vitro organ bath studies were performed to explore contractility of rat prostate. SMM isoforms, including SM myosin heavy chain (MHC) isoforms (SM1/2 and SM-A/B) and myosin light chain 17 isoforms (LC17a/b ), and isoform ratios were determined via competitive RT-PCR. SM MHC and NM MHC isoforms (NMMHC-A, NMMHC-B and NMMHC-C) were further analysed via Western blotting and immunofluorescence microscopy. Prostatic SM generated significant force induced by phenylephrine with an intermediate tonicity between phasic bladder and tonic aorta type contractility. Correlating with this kind of intermediate tonicity, rat prostate mainly expressed LC17a and SM1 but with relatively equal expression of SM-A/SM-B at the mRNA level. Meanwhile, isoforms of NMMHC-A, B, C were also abundantly present in rat prostate with SMM present only in the stroma, while NMMHC-A, B, C were present both in the stroma and endothelial. Additionally, the SMM selective inhibitor blebbistatin could potently relax phenylephrine pre-contracted prostate SM. In conclusion, our novel data demonstrated the expression and functional activities of SMM and NMM isoforms in the rat prostate. It is suggested that the isoforms of SMM and NMM could play important roles in BPH development and bladder outlet obstruction.

The bioactive lipid sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) regulates smooth muscle (SM) contractility predominantly via three G protein-coupled receptors. The S1P1 receptor is associated with nitric oxide (NO)-mediated SM relaxation, while S1P2 & S1P3 receptors are linked to SM contraction via activation of the Rho-kinase pathway. This study is to determine testosterone (T) modulating the expression and functional activity of S1P receptors in corpus cavernosum (CC). Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups: sham-operated controls, surgical castration and T supplemented group. Serum S1P levels were detected by high-performance liquid chromatography. The expression of S1P1-3 receptors and sphingosine kinases was detected by real-time RT-PCR. In vitro organ bath contractility and in vivo intracavernous pressure (ICP) measurement were also performed. T deprivation significantly decreased ICP rise. Meanwhile, surgical castration induced a significant increase in serum S1P level and the expression of S1P2-3 receptors by twofold (P < 0.05) but a decrease in the expression of S1P1 receptor. Castration also augmented exogenous phenylephrine (PE), S1P, S1P1,3 receptor agonist FTY720-P contractility and S1P2-specific antagonist JTE013 relaxation effect. T supplemented could restore the aforementioned changes. We provide novel data that castration increased serum S1P concentration and up-regulated the expression of S1P2-3 receptors in CC. Consistently, agonizing S1P receptors induced CCSM contraction and antagonizing mediated relaxation were augmented. This provides the first clear evidence that S1P system dysregulation may contribute to hypogonadism-related erectile dysfunction (ED), and S1P receptors may be expected as a potential target for treating ED.

BACKGROUND: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is mainly caused by increased prostatic smooth muscle (SM) tone and prostatic volume. At the molecular level, SM myosin II (SMM II) and non-muscle myosin II (NMM II) mediate SM tone and cell proliferation while testosterone (T) plays a permissive role in the development of BPH. AIMS: The novel objective of this study was to elucidate the effects of T on the proliferation and apoptosis of rat prostatic cells and SM contractility as well as related regulatory signaling pathways. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Briefly, 36 male rats were divided into three groups (sham-operated, surgically castrated, and castrated with T supplementation). In vitro organ bath studies, competitive RT-PCR, Western-blotting analysis, Masson's trichrome staining, and immunofluorescence staining were performed. RESULTS: Our data showed that castration dramatically increased prostatic SM contractility and SM MHC immunostaining revealed a relatively increased SM cell numbers in the stroma. T deprivation altered prostate SMM II isoform composition with upregulation of SM-B and SM2 but downregulation of LC17a, favoring a faster more phasic-type contraction. Moreover, protein expressions of MLCK, p-MLCP, RhoB, ROCK1, and ROCK2 increased in castrated rats. Meanwhile NMM II heavy chain isoforms A, B, and C (NMMHC-A, B, and C isoforms) were altered by castration which may be linked to decreased cell proliferation and increased apoptosis. CONCLUSION: Our novel data demonstrated T regulates SMM II and NMM II and their functional activities in rat prostate and T ablation not only decreases prostate size (static component) but also changes the prostatic SM tone (dynamic component).

Development of bifunctional non-metal electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reactions (ORRs) and oxygen evolution reactions (OERs) with high efficiency, durable stability and low cost is a crucial and challenging issue. However, the heteroatom-doped carbon material including a carbon-based conductive additive would be easily oxidized under the high potential needed for driving the OER. Besides, the interaction between the heteroatom-doped carbon material that possesses electrocatalyst activity and a carbon-based conductive additive is weak, affecting the performance of the electrocatalyst. In this context, we introduce CoS nanoparticles into a three-dimensional N-doped carbon framework (CoS/NCF) by a morphology-retaining pyrolysis of polyaniline/CoS framework precursor, in which the polyaniline framework provides abundant functional groups to nucleate and grow CoS nanoparticles while retaining its interconnected three-dimensional porous structure. Benefiting from (i) the lower OER potential of CoS nanoparticles than the electro-oxidation decomposition potential of a carbon material and (ii) the strong affinity of CoS nanoparticles for a N-doped carbon framework, higher stability than commercial Pt/C system and greater catalytic activity towards ORR with an onset potential of about 0.921 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) are observed. Furthermore, only a potential of 1.515 V versus RHE is required for achieving a current density of 10 mA cm-2.
RESUMEN
Background: Zinc has been shown to improve intestinal barrier function against Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. typhimurium) infection, but the mechanisms involved in this process remain undefined. Objective: We aimed to explore the roles of G protein-coupled receptor (GPR)39 and protein kinase Cζ (PKCζ) in the regulation by zinc of intestinal barrier function. Methods: A Transwell Caco-2 monolayer was pretreated with 0, 50, or 100 µM Zn and then incubated with S. typhimurium for 0-6 h. Afterward, cells silenced by the small interfering RNA for GPR39 or PKCζ were pretreated with 100 µM Zn and incubated with S. typhimurium for 3 h. Finally, transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER), permeability, tight junction (TJ) proteins, and signaling molecules GPR39 and PKCζ were measured. Results: Compared with controls, S. typhimurium decreased TEER by 62.3-96.2% at 4-6 h (P < 0.001), increased (P < 0.001) permeability at 6 h, and downregulated (P < 0.05) TJ protein zonula occludens (ZO)-1 and occludin by 104-123%, as well as Toll-like receptor 2 and PKCζ by 35.1% and 75.2%, respectively. Compared with S. typhimurium-challenged cells, 50 and 100 µM Zn improved TEER by 26.3-60.9% at 4-6 h (P < 0.001) and decreased (P < 0.001) permeability and bacterial invasion at 6 h. A total of 100 µM Zn increased ZO-1, occludin, GPR39, and PKCζ 0.72- to 1.34-fold (P < 0.05); however, 50 µM Zn did not affect ZO-1 or occludin (P > 0.1). Silencing GPR39 decreased (P < 0.05) zinc-activated PKCζ and blocked (P < 0.05) the promotion of zinc on epithelial integrity. Furthermore, silencing PKCζ counteracted the protective effect of zinc on epithelial integrity but did not inhibit GPR39 (P = 0.138).Conclusion: We demonstrated that zinc upregulates PKCζ by activating GPR39 to enhance the abundance of ZO-1, thereby improving epithelial integrity in S. typhimurium-infected Caco-2 cells.

The root of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb (PM) has been used in China to treat a variety of diseases, such as constipation, early graying of the hair and hyperlipemia. Recent evidence shows that PM causes idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (IDILI) in humans. In this study, we investigated the molecular basis of PM-induced liver injury in a rat model of IDILI based on a non-hepatotoxic dose of LPS. SD rats were orally administered 3 potentially hepatotoxic compounds of PM: cis-stilbene glucoside (cis-SG, 50 mg/kg), trans-SG (50 mg/kg) or emodin (5 mg/kg), followed by injection of LPS (2.8 mg/kg, iv). Serum and liver histology were evaluated 7 h after LPS injection. Among the 3 compounds tested, cis-SG, but not emodin or trans-SG, induced severe liver injury in rats when combined with LPS. The levels of AST and ALT in plasma and inflammatory cytokines in both plasma and liver tissues were markedly elevated. The liver tissues showed increased injury, hepatocyte apoptosis, and macrophage infiltration, and decreased cell proliferation. Microarray analysis revealed a negative correlation between peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) and LPS/cis-SG-induced liver injury. Immunohistochemical staining and RT-PCR results further confirmed that cis-SG significantly inhibited activation of the PPAR-γ pathway in the liver tissues of LPS/cis-SG-treated rats. Pre-treatment with a PPAR-γ agonist pioglitazone (500 g/kg, ig) reversed LPS/cis-SG-induced liver injury, which was associated with inhibiting the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway. These data demonstrate that cis-stilbene glucoside induces immunological idiosyncratic hepatotoxicity through suppressing PPAR-γ in a rat model of IDILI.

In recent years, the issues related to herb-induced liver injury (HILI) have received much concern. Its clinical diagnosis is much difficult than that of Western medicine-induced liver injury due to its complicated drug combination and multiple constituents. Moreover, it is also correlated with physiques, inheritance and basic diseases. China Association of Chinese Medicine has released the first standards for HILI diagnosis and treatment technology in 2016, namely Guidelines for clinical diagnosis of herb-induced liver injury (hereinafter referred to as the Guidelines). The diagnostic processes with different diagnostic results were explained in this paper to help clinicians, particularly liver specialists, in diagnosing liver diseases by applying the operation of the Guidelines.

A typical clinical case of taking Dictamni Cortex(Baixianpi) powder was analyzed to study liver damage caused by Dictamni Cortex. Liver damage was diagnosed according to the integrated evidence chain method recommended by the Guideline for Diagnosis and Treatment of Herb-Induced Liver Injury. By analyzing clinical history and biochemistry and imaging examinations, underlying diseases, such as viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver disease and alcoholic liver disease, were excluded. Through the investigation of medication history, we made it clear that the patient only took Dictamni Cortex powder during the period, and thus suspected that the liver injury was induced by Dictamni Cortex. Furthermore, the quality of the drug was tested, and the results showed it was consistent with the quality standard of Chinese Pharmacopoeia. DNA barcoding showed that the drug was 100% similar with Dictamnus dasycarpus. Moreover, exogenous harmful substances and chemical drug additions were tested, and the results showed that the content of heavy metal, pesticide residues and microbial toxin were consistent with the required standards, and no chemical drug additions were found in Agilent Fake TCM-Drugs database. In summary, we confirmed that the clinical case of drug-induced liver injury was induced by D. dasycarpus with the dose of 15 gâ¢d⻹, which exceeded the prescribed amount of Chinese Pharmacopoeia. According to the Guideline for Diagnosis and Treatment of Herb-Induced Liver Injury, the case of drug-induced liver injury induced by D. dasycarpus was confirmed, which provided a direct and reliable evidence for the study of risk of liver injury induced by D. dasycarpus and its relevant preparations.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of air pollution on respiratory health in school-aged children in the main urban area of Chongqing, China. METHODS: The main urban area of Chongqing was divided into polluted area and clean area according to the air pollution data shown on the Environmental Protection Agency Website of Chongqing between 2010 and 2015. A cluster sampling method was used to select 695 third- or fourth-grade children from 2 primary schools in the clean or polluted area as study subjects, with 313 children from the clean area and 382 children from the polluted area. Pulmonary function was examined for all children and a standard American epidemiological questionnaire (ATS-DLD-78-C) was used to investigate the prevalence of respiratory diseases and symptoms. RESULTS: Compared with the clean area, the polluted area had significantly higher concentrations of inhalable particles (PM10), fine particulate matter (PM2.5), and nitric oxide (NOX) (P<0.05). The multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed after adjustment for confounding factors, and the results showed that compared with those in the clean area, the children in the polluted area had significantly higher risks of cough (OR=1.644), cough during cold (OR=1.596), expectoration during cold (OR=2.196), persistent expectoration (OR=1.802), and wheezing (OR=2.415). The boys and girls in the clean area had significantly higher forced vital capacity and forced expiratory volume in one second than those in the polluted area (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Air pollution in the main urban area of Chongqing is associated with the increased prevalence of respiratory symptoms in school-aged children and has certain effect on children's pulmonary function.
