RESUMEN

Ferroelectricity, especially the Si-compatible type recently observed in hafnia-based materials, is technologically useful for modern memory and logic applications, but it is challenging to differentiate intrinsic ferroelectric polarization from the polar phase and oxygen vacancy. Here, we report electrically controllable ferroelectricity in a Hf0.5Zr0.5O2-based heterostructure with Sr-doped LaMnO3, a mixed ionic-electronic conductor, as an electrode. Electrically reversible extraction and insertion of an oxygen vacancy into Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 are macroscopically characterized and atomically imaged in situ. Utilizing this reversible process, we achieved multilevel polarization states modulated by the electric field. Our study demonstrates the usefulness of the mixed conductor to repair, create, manipulate, and utilize advanced ferroelectric functionality. Furthermore, the programmed ferroelectric heterostructures with Si-compatible doped hafnia are desirable for the development of future ferroelectric electronics.

Ferroelastic twin walls in nonpolar materials can give rise to a spontaneous polarization due to symmetry breaking. Nevertheless, the bistable polarity of twin walls and its reversal have not yet been demonstrated. Here, we report that the polarity of SrTiO_{3} twin walls can be switched by an ultralow strain gradient. Using first-principles-based machine-learning potential, we demonstrate that the twin walls can be deterministically rotated and realigned in specific directions under the strain gradient, which breaks the inversion symmetry of a sequence of walls and leads to a macroscopic polarization. The system can maintain polarity even after the constraint is removed. As a result, the polarization of twin walls can exhibit a ferroelectriclike hysteresis loop upon cyclic bending, namely flexoferroelectricity. Finally, we propose a scheme to experimentally detect the polarity of the twin wall by measuring the bulk photovoltaic responses. Our findings suggest a twin-wall-mediated flexoferroelectricity in SrTiO_{3}, which could be potentially exploited as functional elements in nanoelectronic devices design.

Artificial superlattices have demonstrated many unique phenomena not found in bulk materials. For this investigation, SrTiO3/SrRuO3 paraelectric/metallic superlattices with various stacking periods were synthesized via pulsed laser deposition. A robust room-temperature ferroelectric polarization (∼46 µC/cm2) was found in the superlattices with 2 unit cell (u.c.) thick SrRuO3 layers, despite the fact that neither SrTiO3 nor SrRuO3 is inherently ferroelectric. Results obtained from atomically resolved elemental mapping and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy verified that oxygen vacancies accumulated at the SrTiO3/SrRuO3 interfaces, causing lattice distortions and increased tetragonality (c/a). The observed ferroelectric responses can be mainly attributed to the broken spatial inversion symmetry induced by the ordered distribution of oxygen vacancies at the SrTiO3/SrRuO3 interfaces, coupled with the triggering of external electric field. The resulting polarization mechanism induced by oxygen vacancies suggests viable ways for improving the electrical properties of ferroelectric materials, with the goal of expanding the functionality of a range of electronic devices.

2D ferroelectrics with robust polar order in the atomic-scale thickness at room temperature are needed to miniaturize ferroelectric devices and tackle challenges imposed by traditional ferroelectrics. These materials usually have polar point group structure regarding as a prerequisite of ferroelectricity. Yet, to introduce polar structure into otherwise nonpolar 2D materials for producing ferroelectricity remains a challenge. Here, by combining first-principles calculations and experimental studies, it is reported that the native Ga vacancy-defects located in the asymmetrical sites in cubic defective semiconductor α-Ga2 Se3 can induce polar structure. Meanwhile, the induced polarization can be switched in a moderate energy barrier. The switched polarization is observed in 2D α-Ga2 Se3 nanoflakes of ≈4 nm with a high switching temperature up to 450 K. Such polarization switching could arise from the displacement of Ga vacancy between neighboring asymmetrical sites by applying an electric field. This work removes the point group limit for ferroelectricity, expanding the range of 2D ferroelectrics into the native defective semiconductors.

RESUMEN

This chapter first summarizes the therapy of addiction disorder, and elaborates on the progress of medication. First, the difference between dependency and addiction are introduced. The basic principles of the therapy of substance and non-substance addiction are then put forward. It is also pointed out in this chapter that with the progress of the study, the goal of addiction disorder therapy is expected to transfer from reducing the relapse and harm of the addiction to completely eliminating and recovering from it. This chapter also introduces the progress of psychological addiction elimination technology, especially the "Unconditioned Stimulus Retrieval Extinction Paradigm and Conditioned Stimulus Retrieval Extinction Paradigm" and PITDH technology. Finally it is pointed out that in addiction disorder therapy, comprehensive intervention has become a trend. With regard to the medication for addiction disorders, this chapter also includes the progress and deficiencies of substance and non-substance addiction. In terms of addiction disorder rehabilitation, the foundation of substance addiction is medication which is, however, limited for non-substance addiction. The key to the rehabilitation of addiction disorder is psycho-behavioral therapy, which is especially effective in eliminating craving.

RESUMEN

This chapter focuses on psychotherapy of substance and non-substance addiction (see Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Chap. 16 ) and introduces the latest advances, mainly in the mindfulness-based relapse prevention, PITDH, and points out that complete elimination of psychological addiction is hopefully to become the target and core of the psychotherapy of addiction disorder. This chapter also introduces methods and progress of various types of substance and non-substance addiction.

RESUMEN

Ferroelectric materials have switchable electrical polarization that is appealing for high-density nonvolatile memories. However, inevitable fatigue hinders practical applications of these materials. Fatigue-free ferroelectric switching could dramatically improve the endurance of such devices. We report a fatigue-free ferroelectric system based on the sliding ferroelectricity of bilayer 3R molybdenum disulfide (3R-MoS2). The memory performance of this ferroelectric device does not show the wake-up effect at low cycles or a substantial fatigue effect after 106 switching cycles under different pulse widths. The total stress time of the device under an electric field is up to 105 s, which is long relative to other devices. Our theoretical calculations reveal that the fatigue-free feature of sliding ferroelectricity is due to the immobile charge defects in sliding ferroelectricity.

RESUMEN

The nonlinear Hall effect (NLHE) holds immense significance in recognizing the band geometry and its potential applications in current rectification. Recent discoveries have expanded the study from second-order to third-order nonlinear Hall effect (THE), which is governed by an intrinsic band geometric quantity called the Berry Connection Polarizability tensor. Here we demonstrate a giant THE in a misfit layer compound, (SnS)1.17(NbS2)3. While the THE is prohibited in individual NbS2 and SnS due to the constraints imposed by the crystal symmetry and their band structures, a remarkable THE emerges when a superlattice is formed by introducing a monolayer of SnS. The angular-dependent THE and its scaling relationship indicate that the phenomenon could be correlated to the band geometry modulation, concurrently with the symmetry breaking. The resulting strength of THE is orders of magnitude higher compared to recent studies. Our work illuminates the modulation of structural and electronic geometries for novel quantum phenomena through interface engineering.

Ferroelectrics are an integral component of the modern world and are of importance in electrics, electronics, and biomedicine. However, their usage in emerging wearable electronics is limited by inelastic deformation. We developed intrinsically elastic ferroelectrics by combining ferroelectric response and elastic resilience into one material by slight cross-linking of plastic ferroelectric polymers. The precise slight cross-linking can realize the complex balance between crystallinity and resilience. Thus, we obtained an elastic ferroelectric with a stable ferroelectric response under mechanical deformation up to 70% strain. This elastic ferroelectric exerts potentials in applications related to wearable electronics, such as elastic ferroelectric sensors, information storage, and energy transduction.

Intra-molecular N-H⋯O and C-H⋯N inter-actions influence the 4-oxo-pent-2-en-2-yl-amino conformation. In the crystal, weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains along [001].

Hafnia-based compounds have considerable potential for use in nanoelectronics due to their compatibility with complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor devices and robust ferroelectricity at nanoscale sizes. However, the unexpected ferroelectricity in this class of compounds often remains elusive due to the polymorphic nature of hafnia, as well as the lack of suitable methods for the characterization of the mixed/complex phases in hafnia thin films. Herein, the preparation of centimeter-scale, crack-free, freestanding Hf0.5 Zr0.5 O2 (HZO) nanomembranes that are well suited for investigating the local crystallographic phases, orientations, and grain boundaries at both the microscopic and mesoscopic scales is reported. Atomic-level imaging of the plan-view crystallographic patterns shows that more than 80% of the grains are the ferroelectric orthorhombic phase, and that the mean equivalent diameter of these grains is about 12.1 nm, with values ranging from 4 to 50 nm. Moreover, the ferroelectric orthorhombic phase is stable in substrate-free HZO membranes, indicating that strain from the substrate is not responsible for maintaining the polar phase. It is also demonstrated that HZO capacitors prepared on flexible substrates are highly uniform, stable, and robust. These freestanding membranes provide a viable platform for the exploration of HZO polymorphic films with complex structures and pave the way to flexible nanoelectronics.

The prediction of soil organic carbon (SOC) changes in response to environmental change is often limited by a scarcity of revisited temporal data, which constrains scientific understanding and realistic predictions of soil carbon change. The present study improved the potential of nonrevisited temporal data in the prediction of SOC stocks (SOCS) variations. We proposed a method to develop predictions of SOCS change using two independent temporal data sets (pertaining to the 1980s and 2010s) in China based on the digital soil mapping technique. Changes in SOCS over time at the site level were analyzed via the interpolation of missing SOCS values in each data set. Quantitative SOCS change predictions were generated by modeling the relationship between SOCS change and variables that represent changes in climate, vegetation indices, and land cover. The scale-dependent response of SOCS change to these environmental dynamics was assessed. On average, a slight increase was observed from 3.70 kg m-2 in the 1980s to 4.53 kg m-2 in the 2010s. The proposed approach attained moderate accuracy with an R2 value of 0.32 and a root mean squared error (RMSE) of 1.73 kg m-2. We found that changes in climate factors were dominant controls of SOCS change over time at the country scale. At the regional scale, the controlling factors of SOCS change were distinct and variable. Our case study may be of value in the application of independent temporal data sets to analyze soil carbon change on multiple scales. The method may be used to resolve questions of soil carbon change projections and provide an alternative solution to predict likely changes in soil carbon in response to future environmental change when no temporal data are available.

Introducing point defects in complex metal oxides is a very effective route to engineer crystal symmetry and therefore control physical properties. However, the inversion symmetry breaking, which is vital for many tantalizing properties, such as ferroelectricity and chiral spin structure, is usually hard to be induced in the bulk crystal by point defects. By designing the oxygen vacancy formation energy profile and migration path across the oxide heterostructure, our first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that the point defects can effectively break the inversion symmetry and hence create novel ferroelectricity in superlattices consisting of otherwise nonferroelectric materials SrTiO3 and SrRuO3. This induced ferroelectricity can be significantly enhanced by reducing the SrTiO3 thickness. Inspired by theory calculation, SrTiO3/SrRuO3 superlattices were experimentally fabricated and are found to exhibit surprising strong ferroelectric properties. Our finding paves a simple and effective pathway to engineer the inversion symmetry and thus properties by point defect control in oxide heterostructures.

Based on the principle of grain refinement caused by the second-phase particles, a phase field model was built to describe the recrystallization process in the ZK60 alloy system with Y added under applied stress between temperatures 573 and 673 K for 140 min duration. The simulation of grain growth with second phase particles and applied stress during annealing process on industrial scale on the condition of real time-space was achieved. Quantitative analysis was carried out and some useful laws were revealed in ZK60 alloy system. The second phase particles had a promoting effect on the grain refinement, however the effect weakened significantly when the content exceeded 1.5%. Our simulation results reveal the existence of a critical range of second phase particle size of 0.3⁻0.4 µm, within which a microstructure of fine grains can be obtained. Applied stress increased the grain coarsening rate significantly when the stress was more than 135 MPa. The critical size of the second phase particles was 0.4⁻0.75 µm when the applied stress was 135 MPa. Finally, a microstructure with a grain size of 11.8⁻13.8 µm on average could be obtained when the second phase particles had a content of 1.5% and a size of 0.4⁻0.75 µm with an applied stress less than 135 Mpa after 30 min annealing at 573 K.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of the management on imported malaria in Yangzhou City, so as to provide a reference for formulating the strategy for the prevention and control of imported malaria. METHODS: The data about the detection rate of Plasmodium of fever people in labor-exporting services and overseas returners, the proportion of laboratory confirmed cases in the whole malaria cases, the proportion of the cases with standardized treatment in the whole falciparum malaria cases within 24 hours, and the status of establishment of labor export platform were collected and analyzed in Yangzhou City from 2012 to 2013. RESULTS: There were 82 imported malaria cases in Yangzhou City from 2012 to 2013. The monitoring of labor-exporting services and overseas returners was carried out in the seven counties and districts of Yangzhou City, and the coverage rate was 100%. There were 5 808 persons of export labor service, and among them, 5 575 persons got the medical alert service (95.99%), and 9 525 persons accepted the healthy behavior (95.13%). Totally 410 medical professional persons received the malaria microscopic examination training in 153 malaria microscopy stations or medical institutions, and the training coverage rate was 100%. The average time from attack to the first visit to a doctor of 82 falciparum malaria patients was 2.5 days; the average time from attack to diagnosis confirmation was 2.75 days. All the patients were cured. In the first visit to a doctor, 78 patients were diagnosed with blood tests, and the newly diagnosed blood test rate was 95.12%, and all of them were detected with Plasmodium. Totally 69 falciparum malaria cases were confirmed by the laboratory, and 58 patients were treated with the standard treatment within 24 hours after the first visit (84.16%). CONCLUSIONS: The effect of the imported malaria control and management in Yangzhou City is obvious. However, it is still necessary to strengthen the health education and relevant medical personnel training to prevent and control imported falciparum malaria efficiently.

The cotton mealybug Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley is an emerging invasive insect pest. Since its first report as a pest in the United States in 1991, it has invaded and colonized more than 23 countries over the past century. It was first recorded from Pakistan in 2006 and from China in 2008. In this study, we performed field surveys from 2010 to 2012 and obtained mtCOI sequences from specimens across China and Pakistan, then compared them with already available mtCOI sequences from additional Asian and North American countries. Our genetic analysis provides evidence that P. solenopsis should be classified into two groups, one of which is found only in the United States, and the other found only in Asia. The Asian group contains nine unique haplotypes, two of which have invaded and spread across China, Pakistan, India, and Vietnam over the last 4-6 yr. Our genetic analysis also indicates that P. solenopsis has a close relationship with the parasitoid wasp Aenasius bambawalei Hayat, providing preliminary evidence of a congruent spread of this mealybug and its parasitoids across China.

Tree height and diameter of breast height (DBH) as growth characteristics of Manglietia glauca introduced from Vietnam were measured at many sites in south China and responses of M. glauca growth to soil nutrients and climatic factors were analyzed in this study. Annual average increments of tree height and DBH among different planted sites had significant differences. Annual average increments of tree height and DBH had significant positive correlation with soil total N and P, available N and P, but no significant correlation with soil organic matter, total K, available K, indicating that soil N and P contents could be the main affecting factors for the growth of M. glauca. Annual average increment of tree height had significant difference, but annual average increment of DBH had no significant difference at different altitudes. Annual average increment of tree height increased with the altitude from 150 to 550 m, the maximum was at the altitude of 550 m, and then it decreased. It indicated that the most appropriate altitude for M. glauca introduction is 550 m. Annual average increments of tree height and DBH had significant negative correlation with annual average temperature and > or = 10 degrees C accumulated temperature, and significant positive correlation with annual average precipitation, suggesting that annual mean temperature, > or = 10 degrees C accumulated temperature and annual average precipitation could be the main climatic factors influencing the growth of M. glauca.

OBJECTIVE: To understand the current epidemiological status of human intestinal nematodiasis. METHODS: Fresh feces of subjects were collected and the ova of intestinal nematodes were detected by Kato-Katz technique. Enterobius vermicularis was detected by the cellophane anal swab method. RESULTS: A total of 21 persons were ova positive among the 5666 subjects with 0.37% infection rate, and 51 persons were Enterobius vermicularis positive among 13,713 subjects with 0.37% infection rate. It was deducted that there were about 20,000 people infected with intestinal nematodes in Yangzhou City. CONCLUSION: There are some people infected with intestinal nematodes. Therefore, health education and surveillance of intestinal nematode infections still need to be strengthened
