RESUMEN

PrBi, a sister member of the rare-earth monopnictide family, is an excellent candidate for studying extreme magnetoresistance and nontrivial topological electronic states. In this study, we perform angular magnetoresistance measurements as well as bulk and surface band structure calculations on this compound. PrBi's magnetoresistance is revealed to be significantly angle-dependent and shows a fourfold symmetry as always observed in the nonmagnetic isostructural counterparts, including LaSb, LaBi, and LuBi. Its angular magnetoresistance can be reproduced well using the semiclassical two-band model. The deduced parameters suggest that PrBi hosts an elongated electron pocket with a mobility anisotropy of ∼3.13 and is slightly uncompensated in its carrier concentration. Our bulk and surface band structure calculations confirm the anisotropic electronic features. Moreover, we reveal that a nodal-line-shaped surface state appears at the X̄ point, and is associated with the quadratic dispersion along the -X̄ direction, and the linear type-I Dirac dispersion along the X̄-M̄ direction. Owing to the type-I Dirac dispersion feature, PrBi could serve as a promising material platform for studying many unexpected physical properties, such as the highly anisotropic transport and valley polarization of electrons.

RESUMEN

The target gene sequences of the novel coronaviruses obtained by sequencing were compared with the reference sequences to analyze the genetic variation of the two cases of the novel coronaviruses from Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in 2022 and to explore the sources of infection. The results showed that the two sequences belonged to different evolutionary branches, Delta (AY.122) and Omicron (BA.1.1), respectively. hCoV-19/Inner Mongolia/IVDC-591/2022 had 48 single nucleotide polymorphisms on the genome sequences, sharing 40 nucleotide mutation sites with a Mongolian strain; hCoV-19/Inner Mongolia/IVDC-592/2022 genome shared 57 nucleotide mutation sites with a UK strain, and the nucleotide mutation site identity was 100% (57/57). Phylogenetic analysis showed that the target gene sequences were not directly related to domestic novel coronavirus sequences during the same period, but were related to isolates from Europe and Mongolia.

RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the incidence and treatment of perioperative anemia in patients with gastrointestinal neoplasms in Hubei Province. Methods: The clinicopathological data of 7 474 patients with gastrointestinal neoplasms in 62 hospitals in 15 cities (state) of Hubei Province in 2019 were collected in the form of network database. There were 4 749 males and 2 725 females. The median age of the patients was 62 years (range: 17 to 96 years). The hemoglobin value of the first time in hospital and the first day after operation was used as the criterion of preoperative anemia and postoperative anemia. Anemia was defined as male hemoglobin <120 g/L and female hemoglobin <110.0 g/L, mild anemia as 90 to normal, moderate anemia as 60 to <90 g/L, severe anemia as <60 g/L. The t test and χ2 test were used for inter-group comparison. Results: The overall incidence of preoperative anemia was 38.60%(2 885/7 474), and the incidences of mild anemia, moderate anemia and severe anemia were 25.09%(1 875/7 474), 11.37%(850/7 474) and 2.14%(160/7 474), respectively. The overall incidence of postoperative anemia was 61.40%(4 589/7 474). The incidence of mild anemia, moderate anemia and severe anemia were 48.73%(3 642/7 474), 12.20%(912/7 474) and 0.47%(35/7 474), respectively. The proportion of preoperative anemia patients receiving treatment was 26.86% (775/2 885), and the proportion of postoperative anemia patients receiving treatment was 14.93% (685/4 589). The proportions of preoperative anemia patients in grade ⅢA, grade ⅢB, and grade ⅡA hospitals receiving treatment were 26.12% (649/2 485), 32.32% (85/263), and 29.93% (41/137), and the proportions of postoperative anemia patients receiving treatment were 14.61% (592/4 052), 22.05% (73/331), and 9.71% (20/206). The proportion of intraoperative blood transfusion (16.74% (483/2 885) vs. 3.05% (140/4 589), χ²=434.555, P<0.01) and the incidence of postoperative complications (17.78% (513/2 885) vs. 14.08% (646/4 589), χ²=18.553, P<0.01) in the preoperative anemia group were higher than those in the non-anemia group, and the postoperative hospital stay in the preoperative anemia group was longer than that in the non-anemia group ((14.1±7.3) days vs. (13.3±6.2) days, t=5.202, P<0.01). Conclusions: The incidence of perioperative anemia in patients with gastrointestinal neoplasms is high. Preoperative anemia can increase the demand for intraoperative blood transfusion and affect the short-term prognosis of patients. At present, the concept of standardized treatment of perioperative anemia among gastrointestinal surgeons in Hubei Province needs to be improved.

RESUMEN

Objective: To clarify the correlation of the expression of glia maturation factor-ß (GMF-ß) with Ki-67 in astrocytoma, and to investigate the prognostic implications of combined detection of GMF-ß and Ki-67. Methods: One hundred and forty human astrocytoma samples (WHO Ⅱ-Ⅳ grade) were collected at Southwest Hospital, Army Medical University (the Third Military Medical University), China from 2006 to 2009. Clinicopathological information and 3-year follow-up data were collected. Expression of GMF-ß and Ki-67 was detected by single and double immunohistochemical staining, then the association of GMF-ß expression with Ki-67 and its significance in prognostic evaluation of astrocytoma were statistically analyzed. Results: GMF-ß expression in astrocytoma cells was correlated to both tumor grade and Ki-67 (both P<0.05); Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that GMF-ß and Ki-67 expression were negatively correlated to the 3 year-survival rates, respectively (both P<0.01). Further analysis demonstrated that the two factors were co-influenced on survival, showing a trend of "GMF-ßlow Ki-67low>GMF-ßhigh Ki-67low>GMF-ßlow Ki-67high>GMF-ßhigh Ki-67high" in 3-year survival rate with significant intergroup differences (P<0.05, P<0.01). Conclusions: GMF-ß expression is positively associated with Ki-67 in astrocytoma. Combined detection of GMF-ß and Ki-67 can predict prognosis of patients with glioma.

RESUMEN

Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) can effectively reduce the portal venous pressure and relieve the clinical complications related to portal hypertension. However, hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is still the main complication post TIPS. Studies have shown that patients over 65 years old with liver function reserve in Child-Pugh grade C are the high-HE-risk group post TIPS, and early TIPS treatment can benefit the survival of these high-risk patients. In this study, TIPS was used to treat 60 cases aged > 65 years old and liver function reserve in Child-Pugh grade C (decompensated liver cirrhosis) with esophagogastric variceal bleeding. The clinical results of 1-year was observed and the porto systemic gradient (PSG) was evaluated. The relationship between the incidence of HE and the PSG of patients with and without HE were compared to evaluate the effect of PSG on the incidence of HE.

RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the association between orexin-2 receptor (OX2R) gene polymorphisms and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Methods: A total of 350 patients with AD diagnosed at the People's Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2014 to January 2018 were enrolled as the case group, and 350 healthy subjects were selected as the control group, and their general demographic data were collected. The peripheral blood samples were collected for DNA extraction, and the polymorphisms of 6 loci in OX2R gene in the two groups were detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and gene sequencing. The differences in genotype and gene frequency distribution between the two groups were compared. Results: The genotype distribution of OX2R gene rs2653349 and rs2292041 in the case group was significantly different from that in the control group (P<0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that rs2653349(GA+AA) genotype was an independent risk factor for AD(P=0.009). Five haplotypes were found in the haplotype analysis, and there were differences between the case group and the control group: rs2653349+rs2292041 GA type(χ(2)=10.922, P=0.000 1), rs2653349+rs2292041+ rs3122169 GAA type (χ(2)=8.687, P=0.003), ATC type(χ(2)=8.329, P=0.003 9), rs2653349+ rs2292041 AT type(χ(2)=6.504, P=0.010 8), rs2653349+rs2292041+rs3122169 ATA type(χ(2)=17.511, P=0.000 1). Conclusion: The OX2R gene rs2653349 and rs2292041 polymorphisms in the Han population of Henan may be associated with AD, and the A allele may be a susceptible factor for AD.

RESUMEN

Objective: To improve the understanding of pulmonary involvement of extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) by analyzing the clinical manifestations, imaging and pathological features of this disease. Methods: Three cases of ENKTL, proven by pathological diagnosis in Fuzhou General Clinical Medical College of Fujian Medical University, were retrospectively analyzed. Results: All of the 3 cases were males, aged 74, 61 and 49 years, respectively. The main clinical symptoms included cold and fever. One patient had nasal congestion and runny nose. Chest CT showed multiple lung nodules (n=3), masses (n=2) and patchy shadows (n=2), with irregular lesions and clear boundaries. The 3 cases had been misdiagnosed as community acquired pneumonia, and treated with intravenous injection of moxifloxacin. ENKTL was confirmed by CT-guided percutaneous biopsy with immunohistochemical staining, which showed that 3 cases were positive for CD(56), CD(2), in situ hybridization for EBV encoded RNA (EBER), while negative for CD(20), and 2 cases were positive for CD(3), Granzyme B; and 1 case was positive for T-cell intracytoplasmic antigen-1. All 3 patients received chemotherapy, but 2 patients died, one of rejection 1 month later after bone marrow transplantation. One patient had improved after chemotherapy with follow-up. Conclusion: ENKTL should be considered when patients presented with fever, multiple lung nodules or consolidations which were non-responsive to antibiotics. Lung biopsy was the key to diagnosis.

RESUMEN

AIM: To assess the diagnostic value of the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and fractional anisotropy (FA) of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) at several anatomical locations in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) to explore the optimal parameters and measurement location. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A search was conducted using the PubMed, EBSCO, Ovid, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases to identify articles relevant to this study published before September 2017. Studies were selected and included according to strict eligibility criteria. Mean differences (MD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to compare FA and ADC values between CTS patients and healthy subjects. Potential publication bias was investigated. RESULTS: Eleven studies involving 349 CTS wrists and 278 controls were selected for the meta-analysis. A notable MD: was found for lowered FA at the level of the pisiform bone for CTS versus controls (MD: -0.11, 95% confidence interval [CI]: -1.14 to -0.07, z=5.83, p<0.001). A higher ADC was found at the pisiform bone and hamate bone levels for CTS versus controls (P: MD: 0.15, 95% CI: 0.10 to 0.20, z=5.98, p<0.001, H: MD: 0.15; 95% CI: 0.09 to 0.21, z=4.67, p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The meta-analysis demonstrated a significant FA reduction and ADC increase in CTS patients. This result supports the use of DTI parameters in differentiating CTS patients from health subjects. The anatomical site for FA at the pisiform and ADC at the pisiform and hamate levels were more accessible than other sites for the diagnosis of CTS patients.

RESUMEN

1. Excessive deposition of body fat, especially abdominal fat, is detrimental in chickens and the prevention of excessive fat accumulation is an important problem. The aim of this study was to identify blood biochemical indicators that could be used as criteria to select lean Yellow-feathered chicken lines. 2. Levels of blood biochemical indicators in the fed and fasted states and the abdominal fat traits were measured in 332 Guangxi Yellow chickens. In the fed state, the genetic correlations (rg) of triglycerides and very low density lipoprotein levels were positive for the abdominal fat traits (0.47 ≤ rg ≤ 0.67), whereas total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) showed higher negative correlations with abdominal fat traits (-0.59 ≤ rg ≤ -0.33). Heritabilities of these blood biochemical parameters were high, varying from 0.26 to 0.60. 3. In the fasted state, HDL-C:LDL-C level was positively correlated with abdominal fat traits (0.35 ≤ rg ≤ 0.38), but triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C, total protein, albumin, aspartate transaminase, uric acid and creatinine levels were negatively correlated with abdominal fat traits (-0.79 ≤ rg ≤ -0.35). The heritabilities of these 10 blood biochemical parameters were high (0.22 ≤ h2 ≤ 0.59). 4. In the fed state, optimal multiple regression models were constructed to predict abdominal fat traits by using triglycerides and LDL-C. In the fasted state, triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C, total protein, albumin and uric acid could be used to predict abdominal fat content. 5. It was concluded that these models in both nutritional states could be used to predict abdominal fat content in Guangxi Yellow broiler chickens.

RESUMEN

This study aimed to evaluate the clinical significance of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in the early diagnosis of pyramidal tract Wallerian degeneration (WD) and assessment of neurological recovery following cerebral infarction. This study included 23 patients with acute cerebral infarction and 10 healthy adult controls. All participants underwent both magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and DTI scans. DTI images were analyzed using the Functional MRI of the Brain Software Library to determine the regions of interest (ROI) and obtain the mean diffusivity (MD) and fractional anisotropy (FA) value for each ROI. The correlation between FA or MD and postinfarction functional recovery of the nervous system was further analyzed to assess the feasibility of using a DTI scan in the evaluation of functional recovery of the nervous system in patients with cerebral infarction. DTI may be useful in detecting signals of early postinfarction pyramidal tract WD and is useful for the evaluation of postinfarction neurological recovery. Cerebral lesions were detected using MRI in all patients. It was found that in some patients, the FA value of the ipsilateral pyramidal tract on DTI was decreased as early as day 3 after the onset of infarction and in all patients by day 7. Subsequent correlation studies showed that the FA value of the ipsilateral pyramidal tract on day 13 was negatively correlated with the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score, but positively correlated with the Barthel Index, motricity index, and modified Rankin Scale scores.

RESUMEN

Two heat-shock protein (HSP) 70 family transcripts, heat-shock protein 70 cognate 5 and heat-shock protein 70 cognate 3 (designated as EsHSC70-5 and EsHSC70-3, respectively), were isolated from the Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis and their expression profiles were evaluated for their responsiveness to larval development and immune challenge in adult crabs. The HSPs exhibited 45-89% identity with other heat-shock proteins, and they shared similar structural features. EsHSC70 mRNA expression was detected not only during infection but also during the developmental larval stages. The EsHSC70s were enriched, and their expression fluctuated during early development. EsHSC70 mRNA expression was significantly induced by Vibrio parahaemolyticus challenge in all of the tissues studied (P < 0.05). Expression of EsHSC70 mRNA in the hepatopancreas and at the early zoeal stages was particularly pronounced, and the two EsHSC70s exhibited differential expression patterns both chronologically and spatially. The EsHSC70-5 mRNA level was significantly downregulated in the intestine and gills compared to that in controls at nearly all time points, and was expressed at a lower level after the bacterial challenge, indicating that EsHSC70-5 and EsHSC70-3 respond to immune challenges. The stage-specific enrichment of EsHSC70 transcripts in crabs suggests that these stress proteins play an essential role during brachyurization events.

RESUMEN

We present a novel approach to address one of the technical hurdles the current light-emitting diode (LED) lighting field faces: the packaged efficacy of warm-white LEDs is 20%-30% lower than that of cool-white LEDs depending on the color rendering index. With a differentiated luminaire design in combination with a new class of nano materials, we have greatly improved the efficacy of warm white by 15% at the luminaire system level, which translates to less energy being required to achieve the same light output, and thus offers a more energy-efficient solution. Reliability test of the luminaire shows no performance degradation within the tested period of more than 3000 h. A modeling has been developed to predict the optical performance of luminaires incorporating the nano materials, which agrees well with the experimental data and serves as a powerful tool for designing luminaires with targeted performance.

RESUMEN

Interleukin (IL)-13 is a central mediator in allergic asthma. Our previous results have indicated that sulfatase-modifying factor 2 (SUMF2) interacts with IL-13 and inhibits its secretion. In this study, we investigated the interactions between SUMF2 subtypes and 2 types of IL-13. Wild type IL-13 (wh-IL-13) and its mutated counterpart (mh-IL-13) were analyzed and cloned into pSos yeast expression vectors. Protein was expressed in host cdc25H yeast strains. A quartet of agar growth plates was prepared for the yeast two-hybrid system, which was used to detect IL-13 and SUMF2 subtype interactions. Both yeast expression vectors, pSos/whIL-13 and pSos/whIL-13, and recombinant expression vectors for the 5 subtypes of SUMF2 (pMyr/SUMF2-Vx) were constructed. Our data showed that all of the SUMF2 subtypes bound to whIL-13 and mhIL-13 in the CytoTrap system. Five SUMF2 subtypes - SUMF2-V2, SUMF2-V3, SUMF2-V4, SUMF2-V5, and SUMF2-V7--interacted with whIL-13 and mhIL-13. These subtypes may contribute to allergic asthma by mediating IL-13 release.

RESUMEN

The AuCu3-type intermetallic compoundsReIn3(Re= a rare earth ion) with type-IV magnetic space groups are predicted to show topologically nontrivial electronic states. Here, we grow ErIn3single crystals, and study their magnetic properties and critical behaviors by means of the magnetic susceptibility, and magnetization isotherm measurements. Combining a detailed analysis of the magnetic susceptibility and isothermal magnetization, we find that this compound harbors a complicated magnetic phase diagram, and its magnetic moment arrangement appears not to simply follow the fashion as observed in the isostructural counterpart GdIn3(it adopts a conventional type-Cmagnetic structure that belongs to type-IV magnetic space groups). A careful study of the magnetic properties around the antiferromagnetic (AFM)-paramagnetic transition yields the critical exponentsß= 0.309 (0.297),γ= 1.117 (1.038), andδ= 4.617 (4.454), indicating that the tricritical mean field model or the three-dimensional Ising model works for ErIn3's magnetic behaviors and the presence of a long-range AFM interaction therein. Besides, the exchange interaction distanceJ(r) ∼r-4.665as well confirms a long-range magnetic coupling in ErIn3. Our results offer the clues that the magnetic structure varies from one member ofReIn3family to another, and to confirm their electronic features in the AFM phases further experimental and theoretical studies are still desired.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the distribution and changing trend of canine echinococcosis in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, so as to provide the scientific evidence for prevention and control of canine echinococcosis in high-risk areas of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. METHODS: All data pertaining to Echinococcus infections in canine feces and sampling survey of human echinococcosis were collected from the echinococcosis-endemic foci of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 2012 to 2018, and the prevalence of Echinococcus infections was investigated in dogs and humans. In addition, the spatial distribution characteristics and clusters of canine echinococcoses were identified. RESULTS: A total of 164 139 canine fecal samples were detected in the echinococcosis-endemic foci of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 2012 to 2018, and there were 2 136 fecal samples positive for Echinococcus coproantigens. The positive rates of Echinococcus coproantigens were 0.54% to 1.73% in dogs from 2012 to 2018, with a tendency towards a decline seen in the prevalence of Echinococcus infections in dogs (χ2 = 108.83, P < 0.01), and there was a significant difference in the positive rate of Echinococcus coproantigens in dogs among years (χ2 = 155.27, P < 0.01). Three-dimensional trend analysis showed that canine echinococcosis was mainly concentrated in east of central Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and a high prevalence was detected in New Barag Right Banner and Sonid Right Banner. The global spatial distribution of canine echinococcosis appeared a random pattern in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 2012 to 2018 (Moran's I > 0, P > 0.05), and there were "high-high" and "high-low" clusters of canine echinococcosis in local areas. The prevalence of human echinococcosis was 0.08%, and there was a significant difference in the prevalence among regions (χ2 = 147.61, P < 0.01), with a high prevalence seen in West Ujimqin Banner, Jarud Banner and New Barag Right Banner. In addition, the prevalence of human echinococcosis correlated positively with the Echinococcus coproantigen-positive rate in dogs (r = 0.52, P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of Echinococcus infections shows an overall tendency towards a decline in dogs in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 2012 to 2018, with a high prevalence found in New Barag Right Banner and Sonid Right Banner. Human echinococcosis is concentrated in clusters of canine echinococcosis, where health education and targeted control interventions requires to be intensified.

RESUMEN

Iron chalcogenides are of particular interests among iron-based superconductors due to their distinct properties such as high-Tcon FeSe monolayer and competing magnetic correlations in Fe1+yTe. Here we report unusual transport properties observed near the critical composition of Fe1+yTe (y∼ 0.09) where competing magnetic correlations exist. The resistivity exhibits surprising temperature-dependent relaxation behavior belowTN, resulting in the increase of resistivity with time for 35 K

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of human echinococcosis in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, so as to provide evidence for the development of the precision control strategy of human echinococcosis in the region. METHODS: A sampling survey of human echinococcosis was conducted in 28 banners (counties, districts) of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 2012 to 2017, and the epidemiological characteristics were descriptively analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 90 058 residents were examined for echinococcosis in 28 banners (counties, districts) of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 2012 to 2017, and 71 patients were detected with echinococcosis, with a detection rate of 0.08%. No echinococcosis cases were identified in 8 banners (counties), and there were 6 banners (counties) with echinococcosis prevalence of 0.1% to 1%, and 14 with prevalence of 0 to 0.1%. The echinococcosis prevalence was significantly greater in women (0.11%) than in men (0.05%) (χ2 = 10.09, P = 0.001), and the highest prevalence was detected in patients at ages of over 50 years (38 cases, 53.52%). In addition, the highest echinococcosis prevalence was detected in herdsmen (0.14%), or in primary school children (0.13%). CONCLUSIONS: Human echinococcosis is widely, but lowly prevalent in Inner Mongolia Region, with a diverse density of infections. Echinococcosis has remarkable characteristics of regional and population clusters in Inner Mongolia Region, and the management of echinococcosis requires to be reinforced in key regions and populations.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the spatial distribution patterns and changing tendency of reported echinococcosis patients in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 2013 to 2018, so as to provide the evidence for the management of echinococcosis in high-risk areas. METHODS: All data pertaining to echinococcosis patients in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region were captured from the National Notifiable Communicable Disease Reporting System from 2013 to 2018 and analyzed using a spatial epidemiological method. RESULTS: The incidence of reported echinococcosis was 0.22 to 0.41 per 100 000 in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 2013 to 2018, and the number of banner reporting echinococcosis patients increased from 24 in 2013 to 39 in 2018. The highly prevalent areas of echinococcosis were mainly concentrated in West Ujimqin Banner (the highest incidence, 19.23 per 100 000), East Ujimqin Banner (the highest incidence, 12.93 per 100 000) and New Barag Right Banner (the highest incidence, 11.66 per 100 000). Three-dimensional trend analysis showed that the areas with high incidence of reported echinococcosis were mainly located in central by eastern parts of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. There was a positive spatial autocorrelation in the number of echinococcosis patients, and the cases appeared a clustering distribution (Moran's I > 0, P < 0.05), with "high-high" and "low-high" regions. CONCLUSIONS: The reported echinococcosis patients show a spatial aggregation in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and the hotspot areas are mainly concentrated in Xilingol League and Chifeng City, in which targeted control interventions for Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region are recommended to be intensified.

RESUMEN

Synthetic polyploids are key breeding materials for watermelon. Compared with diploid watermelon, the tetraploid watermelon often exhibit wide phenotypic differences and differential gene expression. Digital gene expression (DGE) profile technique was performed in this study to present gene expression patterns in an autotetraploid and its progenitor diploid watermelon, and deferentially expressed genes (DEGs) related to the abiotic and biotic stress were also addressed. Altogether, 4,985 DEGs were obtained in the autotetraploid against its progenitor diploid, and 66.02% DEGs is up-regulated. GO analysis shows that these DEGs mainly distributed in 'metabolic process', 'cell' and 'catalytic activity'. KEGG analysis revealed that these DEGs mainly cover 'metabolic pathways', 'secondary metabolites' and 'ribosome'. Moreover, 134 tolerance related DEGs were identified which cover osmotic adjustment substance, protective enzymes/protein, signaling proteins and pathogenesis-related proteins. This study present the differential expression of stress related genes and global gene expression patterns at background level in autotetraploid watermelons. These new evidences could supplement the molecular theoretical basis for the better resistance after the genome doubling in the gourd family.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: MicroRNA-1294 (miR-1294) was reported to act as a tumor suppressor in several cancers. However, the biological function of miR-1294 in osteosarcoma (OS) has not been investigated. We, therefore, investigated the clinical significance and underlying mechanisms of miR-1294 in OS. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Quantitative Real-Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) was conducted to detect the levels of miR-1294. Targets of miR-1294 were validated by luciferase reporter assay and Western blot. In vitro functional assays were performed to investigate the effects of miR-217 on cell proliferation and invasion. RESULTS: We found miR-1294 was downregulated in OS tissues and cell lines. Downregulation of miR-1294 has a significant negative impact on the overall survival of OS patients. Overexpression of miR-1294 suppresses OS cell proliferation and invasion in vitro. Then, luciferase reporter assay validated Homeobox A9 (HOXA9) was a downstream target of miR-1294. Expression patterns of miR-1294 were inversely correlated with HOXA9 in OS tissues, strengthening the findings from the luciferase reporter assay. Further functional assays revealed that overexpression of HOXA9 could reverse the inhibition effects of miR-1294 on cell proliferation and invasion. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggested miR-1294 functions as a tumor suppressor in OS progression by targeting HOXA9.
