RESUMEN

LiPF6-based carbonate electrolytes have been extensively employed in commercial Li-ion batteries, but they face numerous interfacial stability challenges while applicating in high-energy-density lithium-metal batteries (LMBs). Herein, this work proposes N-succinimidyl trifluoroacetate (NST) as a multifunctional electrolyte additive to address these challenges. NST additive could optimize Li+ solvation structure and eliminate HF/H2O in the electrolyte, and preferentially be decomposed on the Ni-rich cathode (LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2, NCM811) to generate LiF/Li3N-rich cathode-electrolyte interphase (CEI) with high conductivity. The synergistic effect reduces the electrolyte decomposition and inhibits the transition metal (TM) dissolution. Meanwhile, NST promotes the creation of solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) rich in inorganics on the Li metal anode (LMA), which restrains the growth of Li dendrites, minimizes parasitic reactions, and fosters rapid Li+ transport. As a result, compared with the reference, the Li/LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 cell with 1.0 wt.% NST exhibits higher capacity retention after 200 cycles at 1C (86.4% vs. 64.8%) and better rate performance, even at 9C. In the presence of NST, the Li/Li symmetrical cell shows a super-stable cyclic performance beyond 500 h at 0.5 mA cm-2/0.5 mAh cm-2. These unique features of NST are a promising solution for addressing the interfacial deterioration issue of high-capacity Ni-rich cathodes paired with LMA.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: To provide useful insights into measles elimination progress in China, measles surveillance data were reviewed, and the transmission patterns of measles viruses circulating in China during 1993-2021 were analyzed. METHODS: Measles incidence data from the National Notifiable Disease Reporting System of the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention were analyzed. A total of 17 570 strains were obtained from 30 of 31 provinces in mainland China during 1993-2021. The recommended genotyping window was amplified. Genotyping analysis was conducted for comparison with the reference strains. Phylogenetic analyses were performed to identify genetic relationships among different lineages within the genotypes. RESULTS: With high coverage of routine immunization and intensive supplementary immunization activities, measles incidence has shown a downward trend since 1993, despite 2 resurgences, reaching a historic low level in 2020-2021 (average 0.5 per million). During 1993-2021, 9 genotypes including domestic genotype H1; imported genotypes B3, D4, D8, D9, D11, G3, and H2; and vaccine-associated genotype A were identified. Among them, the genotype H1 strain circulated endemically in China for more than 25 years; the last strain was detected in Yunnan Province in September 2019. Multiple imported genotypes have been identified since 2009 showing different transmission patterns. Since April 2020, no imported strains have been detected, while vaccine-associated genotype A continues to be detected. CONCLUSIONS: The evidence of low incidence during 2020-2021 and virological surveillance data in this study confirm that China is currently approaching measles elimination.

RESUMEN

Three neolignan glycosides, including a new compound (7S,8R)-dihydro-3'-hydroxy-7-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-1'-benzofuranpropanol-9-O-ß-D-xylopyranoside (1), were isolated from the root of Nothopanax davidii. Their structures were determined by extensive spectroscopic analyses, particularly NMR, HR-ESI-MS, and ECD experiments, and the absolute configuration of 2 was first definitively determined. The anti-tumor activity was assessed on four tumor cells by MTT assay, the anti-inflammatory activity was determined by inhibition of NO production in LPS reduced RAW264.7 cells, and the interaction with iNOS was predicted by molecular docking. At the dose of 100 µM, the three neolignan glycosides showed no cytotoxic activity against HepG2, HCT116, HeLa and A549 human tumor cells, but significantly inhibited LPS induced NO generation in RAW264.7 cells with inhibition rates of 31.53 %, 23.95 %, and 20.79 %, respectively, showing weak anti-inflammatory activity, possibly due to their binding to key residues of iNOs involved in inhibitor binding.

RESUMEN

Whether to use antibiotics to prevent surgical site infection in elective inguinal tension-free hernia repair has been controversial. To systematically evaluate the effect of prophylactic antibiotic application in elective inguinal tension-free hernia repair, we identified all published randomised controlled trials of the effect of prophylactic antibiotic application on elective inguinal tension-free hernia repair were collected by computer retrieval from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure; VIP Database; Wanfang Database; China Biomedical Literature Database; and PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Library databases. Meta-analysis was performed by RevMan 5.3 software. The meta-analysis showed that the total incidence of surgical site infections [P = 0.003] and the incidence of superficial surgical site infections [P = 0.004] in the antibiotic group (AG) were lower than those in the non-antibiotic group (NAG). There was no significant difference in the total incidence of postoperative infections [P = 0.06], deep surgical site infections [P = 0.26] and seroma [P = 0.52] between the AG and the NAG. Based on current evidence, the application of prophylactic antibiotics in elective inguinal tension-free hernia repair can prevent the total incidence of surgical site infections and that of superficial surgical site infections but cannot prevent the total incidence of postoperative infection events, incidence of deep surgical site infections and incidence of seroma.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of arbidol and lopinavir/ritonavir (LPV/r) in the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) using a meta-analysis method. METHODS: The China Knowledge Network, VIP database, WanFang database PubMed database, Embase database, and Cochrane Library were searched for a collection of comparative studies on arbidol and lopinavir/ritonavir in the treatment of COVID-19. Meta-analysis was used to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Arbidol and lopinavir/ritonavir in the treatment of COVID-19. RESULTS: The results of the systematic review indicated that Arbidol had a higher positive-to-negative conversion rate of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) nucleic acid on Day 7 (p = 0.03), a higher positive-to-negative conversion rate of SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid on Day 14 (p = 0.006), a higher improvement rate of chest computed tomography on Day 14 (p = 0.02), a lower incidence of adverse reactions (p = 0.002) and lower rate of mortality (p = 0.007). There was no difference in the rate of cough disappearance on Day 14 (p = 0.24) or the rate of severe/critical illness (p = 0.07) between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS: Arbidol may be superior to lopinavir/ritonavir in the treatment of COVID-19. However, due to the small number of included studies and the number of patients, high-quality multicenter large-sample randomized double-blind controlled trials are still needed for verification.

RESUMEN

White light-emitting diodes provide widespread applications in lighting, electronic equipment, and high-tech displays. However, thermal quenching effect severely limits their practical application. Here, we developed an orange-red phosphor ß-KMg(PO3)3:Mn2+, which emits bright orange-red light when excited by ultraviolet light without the energy transfer of sensitizer, owing to the strong crystal field provided by ß-KMg(PO3)3 for Mn2+. The self-reduction of Mn4+ → Mn2+ and good thermal stability have been realized in an ambient atmosphere. The defect types were verified by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and cationic vacancy plays a significant role in the self-reduction of Mn4+ → Mn2+. Furthermore, the properties of the trap energy levels were studied by thermoluminescence. The recombination luminescence of the detrapped carriers released from the deep trap levels at high temperatures suppresses the luminescence loss of thermal quenching. Moreover, the trap energy levels play an important role in the mechanoluminescence of ß-KMg(PO3)3:Mn2+. This work emphasizes the significance of the defects in the luminescent characteristics and opens up a new approach for the development of advanced optical functional materials.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: To provide a better understanding of the progress on rubella control and elimination in China, a genetic analysis was conducted to examine the transmission pattern of the endemic rubella virus in China during 2010-2019. METHODS: A total of 4895 strains were obtained from 29 of the 31 provinces in mainland China during 2010-2019. The genotyping regions of the strains were amplified, determined, and assembled. Genotyping analysis and lineage division were performed by comparisons with the World Health Organization reference strains and reported lineage reference strains, respectively. Further phylogenetic analyses were performed to compare the genetic relationship. RESULTS: During 2010-2019, the domestic lineage 1E-L1 and multiple imported lineages of rubella viruses including 2B-L1, 1E-L2, and 2B-L2c were identified. Further analysis of the circulation trend of the different lineages indicated that 2 switches occurred among the lineages. The first shift was from lineage 1E-L1 to 2B-L1, which occurred around 2015-2016, followed by the lowest rubella incidence in 2017. The second shift was from lineage 2B-L1 to 1E-L2 and 2B-L2c, which occurred around 2018-2019, coinciding with rubella resurgence and the subsequent nationwide epidemic during 2018-2019. Insufficient genomic information worldwide made it impossible to trace the origin of the imported viruses. CONCLUSIONS: China was moving toward rubella elimination, as evidenced by the fact that previous endemic lineages were not detected. However, rubella reemerged in 2018 2019 due to the newly imported rubella viruses. Therefore, to realize the rubella elimination goal, joint efforts are required for all countries worldwide.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND/AIM: A new bioceramic material iRoot BP Plus has been introduced and reported to have good biocompatibility, sealing ability and antibacterial activity. It has also been reported to be successfully used for procedures such as pulpotomy, pulp floor perforation repair and so on. However, there are only a few reports on the use of iRoot BP Plus in the management of traumatized teeth with an exposed pulp. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of partial pulpotomy with iRoot BP Plus in immature permanent teeth with complicated crown fracture or complicated crown-root fracture. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study was prospectively designed, and 110 immature permanent teeth with complicated crown fracture or complicated crown-root fracture were randomly allocated into two groups (n = 55). All teeth were clinically and radiographically assessed at 1, 3, 6, 12, 18 and 24 months after partial pulpotomy with iRoot BP Plus (experimental group, n = 50) or calcium hydroxide (control group, n = 49) as the pulp capping agent. Eleven cases were lost during follow up, and 99 teeth were finally analysed. RESULTS: There were no intergroup differences in the survival rate, survival time, root length and dentin wall thickness. The calcific bridge was significantly thinner in the iRoot BP Plus group than in the calcium hydroxide group (0.97 ± 0.13 mm vs 1.36 ± 0.12 mm; F = 5.128, P = .029). CONCLUSIONS: iRoot BP Plus may be an effective capping material for partial pulpotomy.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Tofacitinib is a novel therapy for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The aim of this study was to measure various serum cytokines levels and to explore potential markers predictive of therapeutic efficacy of tofacitinib for RA patients. METHODS: Thirty-two patients with RA were given tofacitinib (5 mg bid). Serum cytokines levels of Th1 (IFN-γ), Th2 (IL-6), Th17 (IL-17), Tregs (IL-35), and TNF-α were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. RESULTS: Disease activity was significantly decreased as early as week 4 after tofacitinib treatment. Serum IL-35 levels were significantly increased and serum levels of TNF-α, IL-17, IL-6, and IFN-γ were significantly reduced in response to tofacitinib since week 4. CONCLUSIONS: After treatment with tofacitinib, RA patients may benefit from monitoring of disease activity as early as week 4. IL-35 also might be a predictive indicator of the disease activity and drug efficacy. Meanwhile, tofacitinib might be CS-sparing in RA.

RESUMEN

In mammalian ovaries, follicle assembly requires proper germ cell cyst breakdown and the invasion of somatic cells to encapsulate individual oocytes. Abnormalities in this process lead to a number of pathologies such as premature ovarian failure and infertility. As a conserved pathway regulating cell growth and metabolism in response to growth factors and nutrients, the roles of mTOR signaling in follicular development have been extensively studied in recent years. However, its functions during follicle formation remain unknown. In this study, the expression of p-rpS6 (phospho-ribosomal proteinS6), a downstream marker of mTORC1, showed dynamic changes in perinatal ovaries. When E18.5 ovaries, which mainly contained germ cell nests, were incubated with the mTOR inhibitors Rapamycin and Torin1 for 24 h, follicle assembly was delayed with differential somatic cell invasion into germ cell cyst among the groups. After transplanting treated or untreated ovaries into kidney capsules of recipient ovariectomized mice, follicular development was blocked in treated ovaries, as shown by fewer antral follicles and a higher proportion of primordial follicles. Further studies showed a significant decrease in somatic cell proliferation and the expression of marker genes related to follicular development (Kitl, Kit, Gdf9, Bmp15, Zp3, and Amhr2) in treated ovaries. Moreover, the addition of KITL, a growth factor that is mainly produced by pregranulosa cells during germ cell nest breakdown, rescued the extension of follicle formation induced by mTOR inhibitors. These results suggest that KITL functions downstream of mTOR in somatic cells to regulate their communication with oocytes during follicle formation. J. Cell. RESUMEN

PURPOSE: For penetrating thoracic trauma, there is no consensus on whether operative exploration or conservative treatment is better. In this study, we compared the clinical effect of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and thoracotomy on the patients with penetrating thoracic trauma. METHODS: From January 2000 to December 2010, 123 patients with penetrating thoracic trauma were treated in Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University. Based on the inclusion criteria, 80 patients were enrolled and randomly assigned into VATS and thoracotomy group. RESULTS: The operation time, amount of bleeding and drainage in VATS group were all lower than traditional operation (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The results indicate that VATS has the merits of shorter operation time, non-blind area, exact surgical path and less bleeding comparing with traditional operation.

RESUMEN

Nucleus pulposus (NP) cell pyroptosis is crucial for intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). However, the precise mechanisms underlying pyroptosis in IDD remain elusive. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate how dickkopf-1 (DKK1) influences NP cell pyroptosis and delineate the regulatory mechanisms of IDD. Behavioral tests and histological examinations were conducted in rat IDD models to assess the effect of DKK1 on the structure and function of intervertebral discs. Detected pyroptosis levels using Hoechst 33,342/propidium iodide (PI) double staining, and determined pyroptosis-related protein expression via western blotting. The cellular mechanisms of DKK1 in pyroptosis were explored in interleukin (IL)-1ß-induced NP cells transfected with or without DKK1 overexpression plasmids (oe-DKK1). In addition, IL-1ß-treated NP cells transfected with sh-EZH2 and/or sh-DKK1 were utilized to clarify the interplay between the enhancer of zeste homologue 2 (EZH2) and DKK1 in pyroptosis. Additionally, the epigenetic regulation of DKK1 by EZH2 was explored in NP cells treated with the EZH2 inhibitors GSK126/DZNep. DKK1 expression decreased in IDD rats. Transfection with oe-DKK1 reduced pro-inflammatory factors and extracellular matrix markers in IDD rats. In IL-1ß-induced NP cells, DKK1 overexpression suppressed pyroptosis and inhibited the NLRP3 and NAIP/NLRC4 inflammasome activation. EZH2 knockdown increased DKK1 expression and reduced pyroptosis-related proteins. Conversely, DKK1 downregulation reversed the inhibitory effects of EZH2 knockdown on pyroptosis. Furthermore, EZH2 suppressed DKK1 expression via H3K27 methylation at the DKK1 promoter. EZH2 negatively regulates DKK1 expression via H3K27me3 methylation, promoting NP cell pyroptosis in IDD patients. This regulatory effect involves the activation of NLRP3 and NAIP/NLRC4 inflammasomes.

RESUMEN

Chick's susceptibility to heat stress often leads to growth retardation, immune function impairment, disease, and mortality. This thesis explores the potential ameliorative effect of 0.8% Eucommia ulmoides extract (EUE) into the diet of heat-stressed chicks in a 15-d feeding trial. The investigation reveals that feeding EUE significantly enhances the BW, ADG, AFI, and F/G of chicks experiencing heat stress. Additionally, the EUE groups exhibited higher levels of T-AOC (at 7 and 15d), SOD (at 15 d), GSH-Px (at 15 d), as well as lower MDA concentrations (at 7 and 15d) in chick serum. Pathological changes and H&E staining revealed that EUE effectively improved tissue damage in the duodenum, heart, and stomach induced by heat stress in the chicks. The EUE groups also showed higher levels of IgA (at 7 d), IgG and IgM (at 7 and 15 d). RNA-seq and WGCNA analysis revealed that EUE mitigates cellular damage and losses in heat-stressed chicks primarily through pathways involving signal transduction, protein synthesis and degradation, as well as cell cycle regulation, particularly the latter. This investigation serves as a fundamental and cognitive framework for the development and application of Eucommia ulmoides feed additives aimed at safeguarding the well-being of chicks in adverse environmental conditions.

RESUMEN

Under the background of "carbon neutral", lithium-ion batteries (LIB) have been widely used in portable electronic devices and large-scale energy storage systems, but the current commercial electrolyte is mainly liquid organic compounds, which have serious safety risks. In this paper, a bilayer heterogeneous composite solid-state electrolyte (PLPE) was constructed with the 3D LiX zeolite nanofiber (LiX-NF) layer and in-situ interfacial layer, which greatly extends the life span of lithium metal batteries (LMB). LiX-NF not only offers a continuous fast path for Li+, but also zeolite's Lewis acid-base interaction can immobilize large anions, which significantly improves the electrochemical performance of the electrolyte. In addition, the in-situ interfacial layer at the electrode-electrolyte interface can effectively facilitate the uniform deposition of Li+ and inhibit the growth of lithium dendrites. As a result, the Li/Li battery assembled with PLPE can be stably cycled for more than 2500 h at 0.1 mA cm-2. Meanwhile, the initial discharge capacity of the LiFePO4/PLPE/Li battery can be 162.43 mAh g-1 at 0.5 C, and the capacity retention rate is 82.74% after 500 cycles. These results emphasize that this bilayer heterogeneous composite solid-state electrolyte has distinct properties and shows excellent potential for application in LMB.

RESUMEN

Due to the high safety, flexibility, and excellent compatibility with lithium metals, composite solid-state electrolytes (CSEs) are the best candidates for next-generation lithium metal batteries, and the construction of fast and uniform Li+ transport is a critical part of the development of CSEs. In this paper, a stable three-dimensional metal-organic framework (MOF) network was obtained using polydopamine as a medium, and a high-performance CSE reinforced by the three-dimensional MOF network was constructed, which not only provides a continuous channel for Li+ transport but also restricts large anions and releases more mobile Li+ through a Lewis acid-base interaction. This strategy endows our CSEs with an ionic conductivity (7.1 × 10-4 S cm-1 at 60 °C), a wide electrochemical window (5.0 V), and a higher Li+ transfer number (0.54). At the same time, the lithium symmetric batteries can be stably cycled for 2000 h at 0.1 mA cm-2, exhibiting excellent electrochemical stability. The LiFePO4/Li cells have a high initial discharge specific capacity of 153.9 mAh g-1 at 1C, with a capacity retention of 80% after 915 cycles. This paper proposes an approach for constructing three-dimensional MOF network-enhanced CSEs, which provides insights into the design and development of MOFs for the positive effects of high-performance CSEs.

RESUMEN

Extramammary Paget disease (EMPD) is a rare cutaneous intraepithelial adenocarcinoma, which is mostly distributed in areas with sweat gland cells and mainly occurs in the anogenital skin of women. The male genital tract involvement is extremely rare and often occurs with other malignant tumors. Paget's disease in the scrotum with sweat gland carcinoma is even rarer. In the first report of scrotal endocrine sweat gland carcinoma associated with Paget disease by Saidi et al. in 1997, no more than 50 cases have been reported in the relevant research worldwide. Early EMPD combined with sweat gland carcinoma is mainly surgical treatment, and there is no standard treatment plan for advanced EMPD with sweat gland carcinoma. Previous article has reported that chemotherapy such as paclitaxel, fluorouracil, platinum, and vinblastine and molecular targeted therapy based on the genetic test results of patients have certain efficacy. Here, we report a 79-year-old male case diagnosed with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) overexpression, which was effectively controlled by chemotherapy and anti-HER-2 treatment such as pyrotinib.

RESUMEN

Background: Osteosarcoma (OS) is a malignancy originating from mesenchymal tissue. Microfibril-associated protein 2 (MFAP2) plays a crucial role in cancer, notably promoting epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). However, its involvement in OS remains unexplored. Methods: MFAP2 was silenced in U2OS cells using shRNA targeting MFAP2 (sh-MFAP2) and validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). We extracted gene chip data of MFAP2 from multiple databases (GSE28424, GSE42572, and GSE126209). Correlation analyses between MFAP2 and the Notch1 pathway identified through the gene set variation analysis (GSVA) enrichment analysis were conducted using the Pearson correlation method. Cellular behaviors (viability, migration, and invasion) were assessed via the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), wound healing, and Transwell assays. EMT markers (N-cadherin, vimentin, and ß-catenin) and Notch1 levels were examined by western blotting and qRT-PCR. Cell morphology was observed microscopically to evaluate EMT. Finally, the role of MFAP2 in OS was validated through a xenograft tumor model. Results: OS cell lines exhibited higher MFAP2 mRNA expression than normal osteoblasts. MFAP2 knockdown in U2OS cells significantly reduced viability, migration, and invasion, along with downregulation of N-cadherin and vimentin, as well as upregulation of ß-catenin. MFAP2 significantly correlated with the Notch1 pathway in OS and its knockdown inhibited Notch1 protein expression. Furthermore, Notch1 activation reversed the inhibitory effects of MFAP2 knockdown on the malignant characteristic of U2OS cells. Additionally, MFAP2 knockdown inhibited tumor growth, expression levels of EMT markers, and Notch1 expression in OS tumor tissues. Conclusions: Our study revealed that MFAP2 was an upstream regulator of the Notch1 signaling pathway to promote EMT in OS. These findings suggested MFAP2 as a potential OS therapy target.

RESUMEN

Biochar application to soil has proven to be an excellent approach for decreasing the concentration of auto-toxic compounds and promoting plant growth in continuous-cropping fields. However, the mechanisms underlying the action pathway among biochars, auto-toxic compounds and tobacco remain unknown. In this study, we conducted an experiment tracking the incidence rate of black rot and auto-toxic compounds for a 3-year continuous-cropping tobacco pot trial in response to biochar treatment intensity compared with that of non-biochar treatment. Biochar inhibited the incidence of black rot. Using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC‒MS/MS), we revealed that biochar can effectively decrease the concentration of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHA), which is associated with the incidence rate of black rot (R2 = 0.890, p < 0.05). The sorption kinetics and isotherm of PHA sorption on biochar indicate that the coexistence of heterogeneous and monolayer sorption plays an important role in the adsorption process. Using Molecular dynamics (MD), Density functional theory (DFT) and Independent gradient model (IGM) analyses, we provide evidence that van der Waals force (vdW), π-π bonds and H-bonds between biochar and PHAs are the dominant factors that affect adsorption capacity. Moreover, the molecular adsorption rate (Nbiochar: NPHAs = 1:4) was theoretically calculated. In contrast, biochar dramatically increased nutrient retention capacity and improved soil properties, further enhancing tobacco quality, including its agronomic and physiological traits. Therefore, we considered that biochar not only relieved continuous cropping but also improved soil properties suitable for tobacco growth. Together, we demonstrate that the action of biochar in continuously cropped soil improves soil traits and alleviates auto-toxic compound toxicity. These data contribute to the direction of modified biochar application to improve continuous-cropping soil.

RESUMEN

Deep-blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with narrow emission spectra and high efficiency, meeting the Rec.2020 standard, hold significant promise in the realm of 4K/8K ultrahigh-definition displays. However, the development of light-emitting materials exhibiting both narrowband emission and high efficiency, particularly in the realm of deep-blue thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF), confronts substantial challenges. Herein, a novel deep-blue TADF emitter, named BOC-PSi, was designed by integrating a rigid B-heterotriangulene acceptor (A) with a rigid phenazasiline donor (D). The replacement of a sp3 carbon atom with a sp3 silicon atom in the D moiety helps to restrict the low-frequency bending vibration throughout the entire D-A molecular backbone, while concurrently accelerating the multi-channel reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) processes. Notably, OLEDs using the BOC-PSi emitter exhibit exceptional performance, with a high maximum external quantum efficiency (EQEmax) approaching 20%, and a superior color purity closely aligning with the Rec.2020 blue standard.

RESUMEN

Context: Research regarding the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with probiotics has not yielded consistent results. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the efficacy of probiotics supplementation in patients with IBD. DATA SOURCES: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the efficacy of probiotics in patients with IBD were searched in PubMed, the Google Scholar database, Web of Science, and CrossRef for the period July 2003 to June 2023. DATA EXTRACTION: The RCTs were extracted, independently by 2 authors, according to the PICOS criteria. DATA ANALYSIS: Seven studies, including a total of 795 patients, met the study criteria. Five end points were selected to evaluate the efficacy. Of these, 3 indicators showed a statistically significant difference in efficacy: C-reactive protein (odds ratio [OR]: -2.45, 95% confidence interval [CI]: -3.16, -1.73, P < .01), the number of fecal Bifidobacterium (OR: 3.37, 95% CI: 3.28, 3.47, P < .01), and Lactobacillus(OR: 2.00, 95% CI: 1.91, 2.09, P < .01). The other 2 indicators (disease activity for Crohn's disease and for ulcerative colitis) showed no statistically significant difference, while the OR reflected a positive correlation. CONCLUSION: Probiotics supplementation may have a positive effect on IBD by reducing clinical symptoms, reducing the serological inflammatory markers, and increasing favorable gut flora in patients with IBD. Additional RCTs are needed to evaluate the therapeutic effect of probiotics in IBD.
