RESUMEN

Sulfur in nature consists of two abundant stable isotopes, with two more neutrons in the heavy one (34S) than in the light one (32S). The two isotopes show similar physicochemical properties and are usually considered an integral system for chemical research in various fields. In this work, a model study based on a Li-S battery was performed to reveal the variation between the electrochemical properties of the two S isotopes. Provided with the same octatomic ring structure, the cyclo-34S8 molecules form stronger S-S bonds than cyclo-32S8 and are more prone to react with Li. The soluble Li polysulfides generated by the Li-34S conversion reaction show a stronger cation-solvent interaction yet a weaker cation-anion interaction than the 32S-based counterparts, which facilitates quick solvation of polysulfides yet hinders their migration from the cathode to the anode. Consequently, the Li-34S cell shows improved cathode reaction kinetics at the solid-liquid interface and inhibited shuttle of polysulfides through the electrolyte so that it demonstrates better cycling performance than the Li-32S cell. Based on the varied shuttle kinetics of the isotopic-S-based polysulfides, an electrochemical separation method for 34S/32S isotope is proposed, which enables a notably higher separation factor than the conventional separation methods via chemical exchange or distillation and brings opportunities to low-cost manufacture, utilization, and research of heavy chalcogen isotopes.

RESUMEN

Climate warming poses a significant threat to global crop production and food security. However, our understanding of the molecular mechanisms governing thermoresponsive development in crops remains limited. Here we report that the auxiliary subunit of N-terminal acetyltransferase A (NatA) in rice OsNAA15 is a prerequisite for rice thermoresponsive growth. OsNAA15 produces two isoforms OsNAA15.1 and OsNAA15.2, via temperature-dependent alternative splicing. Among the two, OsNAA15.1 is more likely to form a stable and functional NatA complex with the potential catalytic subunit OsNAA10, leading to a thermoresponsive N-terminal acetylome. Intriguingly, while OsNAA15.1 promotes plant growth under elevated temperatures, OsNAA15.2 exhibits an inhibitory effect. We identified two glycolate oxidases (GLO1/5) as major substrates from the thermoresponsive acetylome. These enzymes are involved in hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) biosynthesis via glycolate oxidation. N-terminally acetylated GLO1/5 undergo their degradation through the ubiquitin-proteasome system. This leads to reduced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, thereby promoting plant growth, particularly under high ambient temperatures. Conclusively, our findings highlight the pivotal role of N-terminal acetylation in orchestrating the glycolate-mediated ROS homeostasis to facilitate thermoresponsive growth in rice.

RESUMEN

Methylated arsenicals, including highly toxic species, such as methylarsenite [MAs(III)], are pervasive in the environment. Certain microorganisms possess the ability to detoxify MAs(III) by ArsI-catalyzed demethylation. Here, we characterize a bifunctional enzyme encoded by the arsI gene from Acidovorax sp. ST3, which can detoxify MAs(III) through both the demethylation and oxidation pathways. Deletion of the 22 C-terminal amino acids of ArsI increased its demethylation activity while reducing the oxidation activity. Further deletion of 44 C-terminal residues enhanced the MAs(III) demethylation activity. ArsI has four vicinal cysteine pairs, with the first pair being necessary for MAs(III) demethylation, while at least one of the other three pairs contributes to MAs(III) oxidation. Molecular modeling and site-directed mutagenesis indicated that one of the C-terminal vicinal cysteine pairs is involved in modulating the switch between oxidase and demethylase activity. These findings underscore the critical role of the C-terminal region in modulating the enzymatic activities of ArsI, particularly in MAs(III) demethylation. This research reveals the structure-function relationship of the ArsI enzyme and advances our understanding of the MAs(III) metabolism in bacteria.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To quantitatively assess the periocular asymmetry and investigate its sex and age-related differences in a Caucasian population using three-dimensional (3D) stereophotogrammetry. METHOD: Standardized 3D photos of the periocular region of 301 Caucasians were taken using the VECTRA M3 3D Imaging System. Standardized landmarks were positioned, and data measurements in the periocular region were obtained from these images using VAM software and assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) for reliability. Absolute differences and asymmetry index between the right and the left periocular region were calculated with a focus on gender and age-related differences. RESULT: Fissure height asymmetry was positively correlated with age (p < 0.01). Furthermore, reflex distance asymmetry was positively correlated with age in the elderly group (p < 0.05). Absolute differences of upper eyelid crease were 0.65 ± 0.79 mm for females and 0.90 ± 0.94 mm for males (p < 0.05). In the elderly group, the absolute differences of reflex distance were 0.664 ± 0.471 mm for males and 0.470 ± 0.408 mm for females (p < 0.05), while the absolute differences of fissure height were 0.619 ± 0.469 mm and 0.436 ± 0.372 mm, respectively (p < 0.05). All measurements had an inter-rater ICC and intra-rater ICC between 0.761 and 0.957. CONCLUSION: Periocular asymmetry is more prominent in older and male people. 3D photogrammetry is a reliable tool to detect periocular asymmetry and might provide an accurate and effective reference for periocular cosmetic, plastic, and reconstructive surgery in the clinical routine. RESUMEN

Sepsis causes high mortality in intensive care units. Although there have been many studies on the gut microbiota in patients with sepsis, the impact of sepsis on the gut microbiota has not been directly determined because the treatment of sepsis also affects the gut microbiota. Therefore, we designed this animal experiment to explore gut microbiota alterations during sepsis. Mice were divided into two groups, mice that survived less than 3 days and mice that survived more than 3 days. Fecal samples collected on the day of cecal ligation and puncture (CLP), as well as on the 3rd and 7th days after CLP, were subjected to microbial community analysis and nontargeted metabolomics analysis. The results showed significantly lower bacterial diversity in fecal samples after CLP. At the genus level, the fecal samples obtained on the 3rd and 7th days after CLP exhibited significantly increased relative abundances of Bacteroides, Helicobacter, etc., and significantly decreased relative abundances of Alloprevotella, Prevotella, etc. Innate metabolite levels were significantly different in mice that survived less than 3 days and mice that survived more than 3 days. In conclusion, CLP-induced sepsis in mice changes the structure of the gut microbiome, and innate metabolites affect the prognosis of septic mice.

RESUMEN

NMR spectroscopy serves as an immensely powerful tool for component assignments and molecular structure elucidations. However, proton NMR spectra are generally trapped with spectral congestion caused by limited frequency differences and complex multiplets. 2D NMR can effectively relieve spectral congestion, but its resolution and acquisition efficiency are restricted by the broad spectral bandwidth. Herein, we introduce an NMR method based on chemical-shift-difference selection by chirp excitation to record high-resolution 2D NMR spectra for extracting coupling correlation networks and multiplet structures, suitable for measurements on complex samples. The performance of the proposed method is illustrated in determining diastereotopic methylene protons, small frequency-difference coupled proton pairs of furanose, pyranose and benzene rings. This study is expected to benefit molecular structure elucidation and composition analysis of complex samples in chemistry, biochemistry and metabonomics.

RESUMEN

Hypertensive renal injury is accompanied by tubular interstitial fibrosis leading to increased risk for renal failure. This study aimed to explore the influences of miR-122-5p in hypertension-mediated renal fibrosis and damage. 14-week-old male SHR and WKY rats were randomly assigned to treat with rAAV-miR-122-5p or rAAV-GFP for 8 weeks. There were marked increases in miR-122-5p and Kim-1 levels and decreases in FOXO3 and SIRT6 levels in hypertensive rats. Transfection with rAAV-miR-122-5p triggered exacerbation of renal fibrosis, apoptosis and inflammatory injury in SHR, associated with downregulated levels of FOXO3, SIRT6, ATG5 and BNIP3 as well as upregulated expression of Kim-1, NOX4, CTGF, and TGF-ß1. In cultured primary mouse renal tubular interstitial fibroblasts, exposure to angiotensin II resulted in obvious downregulation of FOXO3, SIRT6, ATG5, BNIP3 and nitric oxide levels as well as augmented cellular migration, oxidative stress, and inflammation, which were exacerbated by miR-122-5p mimic while rescued by miR-122-5p inhibitor and rhFOXO3, respectively. Notably, knockdown of FOXO3 strikingly blunted cellular protective effects of miR-122-5p inhibitor. In summary, miR-122-5p augments renal fibrosis, inflammatory and oxidant injury in hypertensive rats by suppressing the expression of FOXO3. Pharmacological inhibition of miR-122-5p has potential therapeutic significance for hypertensive renal injury and fibrosis-related kidney diseases.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: We initiated this multicenter study to integrate important risk factors to create a nomogram for hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) for clinician decision-making. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between April 2011 and March 2022, 2281 HCC patients with an HBV-related diagnosis were included. All patients were randomly divided into two groups in a ratio of 7:3 (training cohort, n = 1597; validation cohort, n = 684). The nomogram was built in the training cohort via Cox regression model and validated in the validation cohort. RESULTS: Multivariate Cox analyses revealed that the portal vein tumor thrombus, Child-Pugh class, tumor diameter, alanine aminotransferase level, tumor number, extrahepatic metastases, and therapy were independent predictive variables impacting overall survival. We constructed a new nomogram to predict 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival rates based on these factors. The nomogram-related receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves indicated that the area under the curve (AUC) values were 0.809, 0.806, and 0.764 in predicting 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival rates, respectively. Furthermore, the calibration curves revealed good agreement between real measurements and nomogram predictions. The decision curve analyses (DCA) curves demonstrated excellent therapeutic application potential. In addition, stratified by risk scores, low-risk groups had longer median OS than medium-high-risk groups (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The nomogram we constructed showed good performance in predicting the 1-year survival rate for HBV- related HCC.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Nanosilver-alginate dressing can effectively promote the healing of diabetic wounds in rats. However, due to the potential toxicity of nanosilver, its widespread application in hard-to-heal wound healing is limited. In the present study, the role and potential mechanism of nanosilver-free alginate gel (NSFAG) in the healing process of diabetic wounds were explored. METHOD: A diabetic rat skin wound model was established, and wounds were treated with saline (NC group), nanosilver gel (NSG group) or nanosilver-free alginate gel (NSFAG group) for seven consecutive days. RESULTS: NSFAG significantly promoted wound healing and increased the content of protein and hydroxyproline in granulation tissues, and was superior to NSG (p<0.05). Immunohistochemical analyses revealed that the skin wound tissue structure of the NSFAG group was intact, and the number of skin appendages in the dermis layer was significantly higher compared with the NC group and the NSG group (p<0.05). Western blot analysis found that the protein expression of the epidermal stem cell marker molecules CK19 and CK14 as well the proliferation marker of keratinocytes Ki67 in the NSFAG group was significantly higher compared with the NC group or NSG group (p<0.05). Additionally, the proliferation marker of keratinocytes Ki67 in the NSFAG group was significantly higher compared with the NC or NSG group (p<0.05). Immunofluorescence staining analyses indicated that the CK19- and CK14-positive cells were mainly distributed around the epidermis and the newly formed appendages in the NSFAG group, and this result was not observed in the NC or NSG groups. CONCLUSION: The present findings demonstrate that NSFAG can effectively accelerate wound healing in diabetic rats by promoting epidermal stem cell proliferation and differentiation into skin cells, as well as formation of granulation tissue, suggesting that it can be a potential dressing for diabetic wounds.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Creating an appropriate treatment plan for patients with dermatochalasis requires careful investigation of the periocular region. Utilizing photographic documentation can assist physicians in conducting preoperative analysis and managing expectations regarding surgical outcomes. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to quantify the periocular characteristics of dermatochalasis patients using standardized 3D imaging and to compare age and sex-related changes in periocular features. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, we recruited 145 Caucasian patients with periocular dermatochalasis, comprising 48 men and 97 women, aged between 35 and 91 years. Standardized three-dimensional facial photographs were taken using the 3D Imaging system VECTRA M3. Linear dimensions, curve length, angle, indices, and sizes were measured and analyzed, including palpebral fissure height (PFH), palpebral fissure width (PFW), upper lid fold-palpebral margin distance (FPD), upper palpebral margin length (UPML), lower palpebral margin length (LPML), canthal tilt (CT), palpebral fissure index (PFI), upper eyelid area, and ocular surface area. RESULTS: In the female group, the left-side PFH was slightly larger than the right-side PFH (P = 0.023), but the difference was less than 1mm. The corresponding PFI also showed a difference in the female group (P = 0.009). Statistically significant differences were shown in genders for specific parameters, except PFI (P = 0.251) and CT (P = 0.098). Among males, PFW (R = -0.523, p < 0.001) and LPML (R = -0.514, P = 0.264) decreased moderately with age. The correlation between UPML and age was weak (R = -0.367, P = 0.010). Similarly, among females, moderate correlations were found between age and PFW (R = -0.566, P < 0.001) and LPML (R = -0.537, P < 0.001). Additionally, PFH (R = -0.315, P = 0.002), UPML (R = -0.381, P < 0.001), and ocular surface area (R = -0.457, P < 0.001) showed weak correlations with age. CONCLUSIONS: The study found that dermatochalasis usually affects both eyes simultaneously, and age is a significant factor in the morphological changes of certain periocular features regardless of sex. The PFI is not influenced by age or sex. These findings may provide useful information for surgical planning and understanding age-related changes in the periocular area. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Although a portable 3-dimensional (3D) imaging system has been used for periocular measurement analysis, this system has yet to be tested and validated for periocular area and volume measurements. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to define the upper eyelid and upper eyelid fold region through a modified landmark strategy and validate a portable 3D imaging system for area and volume measurements in this periocular region. METHODS: Eighty-one healthy adult Caucasians underwent 3D facial imaging with the VECTRA M3 (static) and VECTRA H2 (portable) 3D imaging systems (Canfield Scientific, Inc., Parsippany, NJ). Subsequently, the upper eyelid and upper eyelid fold regions were selected according to a modified landmark localization strategy. Direct measurements of area and volume were performed to assess intrarater, interrater, intramethod, and intermethod reliability, and to compare the agreement between the 2 devices. RESULTS: The VECTRA M3 and H2 showed high reliability on upper eyelid area measurements. Excellent intra-, inter-, and intramethod reliability agreements were observed in intraclass correlation coefficient; very good agreement in intrarater reliability was observed in the relative error of measurement (REM) and relative technical error of measurement (rTEM); and good inter- and intramethod reliability were observed in the REM and rTEM. For area measurement of the upper eyelid fold, the intrarater, interrater, and intramethod reliability of the M3 was lower than that of the H2. Both systems had poor intrarater, interrater, and intramethod reliability for volume measurements in the upper eyelid and upper eyelid fold region. CONCLUSIONS: This new portable 3D imaging system achieved excellent or very good reliability values for standardized direct measurements of the upper eyelid and upper eyelid fold region, although volume measurements seem less reliable.

RESUMEN

Graves ophthalmopathy (GO), which occurs in autoimmune thyroid disease, can reduce patients' quality of life due to its impact on visual function, physical appearance, and emotional health. Corticosteroids have been the first-line treatment for GO. More recently, the pathogenesis of GO has made significant progress. Various targeting biological agents and immunosuppressive agents make GO management more promising. Fully understanding GO pathogenesis and precise clinical management are beneficial for the prognosis of patients. Therefore, we conducted a comprehensive review of the medical management of GO and summarized research developments to highlight future research issues.

RESUMEN

Karyotypes provide key cytogenetic information on the phylogenetic relationships and evolutionary origins in related eukaryotic species. Despite our knowledge of the chromosome numbers of sugarcane and its wild relatives, the chromosome composition and evolution among the species in the Saccharum complex have been elusive owing to the complex polyploidy and the large numbers of chromosomes of these species. Oligonucleotide-based chromosome painting has become a powerful tool of cytogenetic studies especially for plant species with large numbers of chromosomes. We developed oligo-based chromosome painting probes for all 10 chromosomes in Saccharum officinarum (2n = 8x = 80). The 10 painting probes generated robust fluorescence in situ hybridization signals in all plant species within the Saccharum complex, including species in the genera Saccharum, Miscanthus, Narenga and Erianthus. We conducted comparative chromosome analysis using the same set of probes among species from four different genera within the Saccharum complex. Excitingly, we discovered several novel cytotypes and chromosome rearrangements in these species. We discovered that fusion from two different chromosomes is a common type of chromosome rearrangement associated with the species in the Saccharum complex. Such fusion events changed the basic chromosome number and resulted in distinct allopolyploids in the Saccharum complex.

RESUMEN

Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has been widely used in the treatment of chronic wounds, including diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) as the severe manifestation of diabetic foot. Hsa-miR-203 is proven to be correlated with the severity of DFU. To investigate whether NPWT influences hsa-miR-203 levels in persons with DFU, we detected hsa-miR-203 levels in peripheral plasma and wound margin tissue from the following patients: type 2 diabetic (T2D) patients with DFU (DFU group), T2D patients without DFU (NDFU group), patients with chronic skin ulcer and normal glucose tolerance (SUC group), and healthy volunteers with normal glucose tolerance (NC group). All patients in SUC group received NPWT. As contrast, some of patients in DFU group received NPWT (NPWT group) while others chose routine dressing therapy (non-NPWT group). In vitro experiments were also performed to determine influences of negative pressure on cell proliferation and migration of HaCaT cells (human keratinocytes). Results showed that before NPWT, levels of hsa-miR-203 in peripheral plasma (P-miR-203) and wound margin tissue (T-miR-203) of DFU group were obviously increased compared to SUC group while expression of P-miR-203 decreased in NDFU group compared with NC group. After NPWT, levels of P-miR-203 and T-miR-203 in DFU and SUC group were significantly lower than before. Changes of P-miR-203 and T-miR-203 after NPWT were positively correlated with 4-week ulcer healing rate in NPWT and SUC group. In vitro, negative pressure lowered the expression of hsa-miR-203, enhancing cell proliferation and migration in HaCaT cells via up-regulation of p63 protein. Meanwhile, the effects of negative pressure on cells were remarkable reduced by high-glucose intervention. Our study suggests that NPWT promotes DFU healing by reducing the expression of hsa-miR-203 in peripheral blood and wound tissue. The changes of hsa-miR-203 in peripheral blood and wound tissue may be related to the therapeutic effect of NPWT.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Arterial stiffness interacts with hypertension, becoming an early marker of hypertension-mediated target organ damage. This study aimed to assess the association between plasma concentrations of bone morphogenetic protein-4 (BMP-4) and arterial stiffness during hypertension. METHODS: Using cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) to determine arterial stiffness status, 204 individuals with essential hypertension were classified into two groups, high CAVI (abnormal) group (n = 94) and low (normal) CAVI group (n = 110). Data were collected including clinical characteristics and laboratory measurements. Plasma levels of BMP-4 were tested by using ELISA analysis. RESULTS: Plasma levels of BMP-4 were substantially greater in high CAVI group than that in low CAVI group [38.51 (31.79-50.83) pg/mL vs. 31.15 (29.38-32.37) pg/mL; p < 0.001]. As shown by spearman correlation analysis, BMP-4 concentrations were correlated with CAVI values in hypertensive individuals (r = 0.406, p < 0.001). After adjustment for potential confounders, elevated BMP-4 levels were related with high CAVI (OR, 1.070; 95% CI, 1.003-1.108; p < 0.001). The best BMP-4 cutoff value for identifying high CAVI, as determined by ROC curve analysis, was 33.34 pg/mL (AUC, 0.751; 95% CI, 0.683-0.818; p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Plasma levels of BMP-4 are increased in hypertensive individuals with high CAVI. Elevated BMP-4 levels are strongly correlated with higher CAVI values, implying a predictive value of BMP-4 in arterial stiffness during hypertension.

RESUMEN

Simazine is a widely used herbicide and known as an environmental estrogen. Multiple studies have proved simazine can induced the degeneration of dopaminergic neuron resulting in a degenerative disease-like syndrome. Herein, we explored the neurotoxicity of simazine on the dopaminergic nervous system of embryos and weaned offspring during the maternal gestation period or the maternal gestation and lactation periods. We found that simazine disturbed the crucial components expression involved in Lmx1a/Wnt1 pathway of dopaminergic neuron in embryonic and weaned offspring. Furthermore, morphological and behavioral tests performed on weaned male offspring treated by simazine suggested that the grip strength, autonomic exploring, and the space sense ability were weakened, as well as the pathological damage of dopaminergic neuron was clearly observed. But, the same neurotoxicity of simazine is less significantly observed in female offspring. Our findings will provide reliable reference for the determination of environmental limits and new insight into the pathogenesis of nonfamilial neurodegenerative diseases related to environmental risk factors.

RESUMEN

Lead (Pb) is an important raw material for modern industrial production, they enter the aquatic environment in several ways and cause serious harm to aquatic ecosystems. Lead ions (Pb2+) are highly toxic and can accumulate continuously in organisms. In addition to causing biological deaths, it can also cause neurological damage in vertebrates. Our experiment found that Pb2+ caused decreased survival, delayed hatching, decreased frequency of voluntary movements at 24 hpf, increased heart rate at 48 hpf and increased malformation rate in zebrafish embryos. Among them, the morphology of spinal malformations varied, with 0.4 mg/L Pb2+ causing a dorsal bending of the spine of 72 hpf zebrafish and a ventral bending in 120 hpf zebrafish. It was detected that spinal malformations were mainly caused by Pb2+-induced endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis. The genetic changes in somatic segment development which disrupted developmental polarity as well as osteogenesis, resulting in uneven myotomal development. In contrast, calcium ions can rescue the series of responses induced by lead exposure and reduce the occurrence of spinal curvature. RESUMEN

A large pool of ammonia in mature leachate is challenging to treat with a membrane bioreactor system to meet the discharge Standard for Pollution Control on the Landfill Site of Municipal Solid Waste in China (GB 16889-2008) without external carbon source addition. In this study, an engineering leachate treatment project with a scale of 2,000 m3/d was operated to evaluate the ammonia heat extraction system (AHES), which contains preheat, decomposition, steam-stripping, ammonia recovery, and centrifuge dewatering. The operation results showed that NH3-N concentrations of raw leachate and treated effluent from an ammonia heat extraction system (AHES) were 1,305-2,485 mg/L and 207-541 mg/L, respectively. The ratio of COD/NH3-N increased from 1.40-1.84 to 7.69-28.00. Nitrogen was recovered in the form of NH4HCO3 by the ammonia recovery tower with the introduction of CO2, wherein the mature leachate can offer 37% CO2 consumption. The unit consumptions of steam and power were 8.0% and 2.66 kWh/m3 respectively, and the total operation cost of AHES was 2.06 USD per cubic metre of leachate. These results confirm that heat extraction is an efficient and cost-effective technology for the recovery of nitrogen resource from mature leachate.

RESUMEN

As two stable hydrogen isotopes, protium and deuterium show magnified isotope effects in physicochemical properties due to the significantly varied atomic masses. In this work, aqueous electrolytes based on heavy water (D2 O) and light water (H2 O) were prepared to reveal the electrochemical isotope effects between the hydrogen isotopes. The covalent hydrogen-oxygen bond and intermolecular hydrogen bond in D2 O are much stronger than those in H2 O, making them thermodynamically more stable. Compared with the H2 O-based electrolyte, the D2 O-based electrolyte shows a broader electrochemical window, a higher percentage of coordinated water and a longer lifetime of hydrogen bond. Because of the above electrochemical isotope effects, the D2 O-based electrolyte shows high anodic stability against operation of high-voltage layered oxide cathode materials including LiCoO2 and LiNi0.8 Co0.1 Mn0.1 O2 , which enables long cycle life and favorable rate performance of aqueous Li-ion batteries.

RESUMEN

Emotional mimicry plays an important role in social interaction and is influenced by social context, especially eye gaze direction. However, the neural mechanism underlying the effect of eye gaze direction on emotional mimicry is unclear. Here, we explored how eye gaze direction influenced emotional mimicry with a combination of electromyography (EMG) and electroencephalography (EEG) techniques, which may provide a more comprehensive measure. To do this, we recorded facial EMG and scalp EEG signals simultaneously while participants observed emotional faces (happy vs. angry) with direct or averted gaze. Then, we split the EEG trials into two mimicry intensity categories (high mimicry intensity, HMI vs. low mimicry intensity, LMI) according to EMG activity. The ERP difference between HMI and LMI EEG trials revealed four ERP components (P50, P150, N200 and P300), and the effect of eye gaze direction on emotional mimicry was prominent on P300 at P7 and P8. Moreover, we also observed differences in the effect of eye gaze direction on mimicry of happy faces and angry faces, which were found on P300 at P7, as well as P150 at P7 and N200 at P7 and Pz. In short, the present study isolated the neural signals of emotional mimicry with a new multimodal method, and provided empirical neural evidence that eye gaze direction affected emotional mimicry.
