RESUMEN

The projection of fringes plays an essential role in many applications, such as fringe projection profilometry and structured illumination microscopy. However, these capabilities are significantly constrained in environments affected by optical scattering. Although recent developments in wavefront shaping have effectively generated high-fidelity focal points and relatively simple structured images amidst scattering, the ability to project fringes that cover half of the projection area has not yet been achieved. To address this limitation, this study presents a fringe projector enabled by a neural network, capable of projecting fringes with variable periodicities and orientation angles through scattering media. We tested this projector on two types of scattering media: ground glass diffusers and multimode fibers. For these scattering media, the average Pearson's correlation coefficients between the projected fringes and their designed configurations are 86.9% and 79.7%, respectively. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed neural network enabled fringe projector. This advancement is expected to broaden the scope of fringe-based imaging techniques, making it feasible to employ them in conditions previously hindered by scattering effects.

In American men, the incidence of prostate cancer (PC) is the highest among all types of cancer, making it the second leading cause of mortality associated with cancer. For advanced or metastatic PC, antiandrogen therapies are standard treatment options. The administration of these treatments unfortunately carries the potential risk of inducing neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC). Neuroendocrine differentiation (NED) serves as a crucial indicator of prostate cancer development, encompassing various factors such as phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin (PI3K/AKT/mTOR), Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1), AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), miRNA. The processes of autophagy and ferroptosis (an iron-dependent form of programmed cell death) play pivotal roles in the regulation of various types of cancers. Clinical trials and preclinical investigations have been conducted on many signaling pathways during the development of NEPC, with the deepening of research, autophagy and ferroptosis appear to be the potential target for regulating NEPC. Due to the dual nature of autophagy and ferroptosis in cancer, gaining a deeper understanding of the developmental programs associated with achieving autophagy and ferroptosis may enhance risk stratification and treatment efficacy for patients with NEPC.

Wet-chemically recovering phosphorus (P) from sewage sludge incineration ash (SSIA) has already become a global initiative to address P deficit, but effectively isolating P from these accompanying metals (AMs) through adsorption in a SSIA-derived extract remains elusive. Here, we devised a hydrothermal stimulus-motivated thermodynamic and kinetic enhancement to gain anionic ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) molecular interfaces for AM enclosure to resolve this conundrum. A new dosage rule based on the EDTA coordination ratio with AMs was established for the first time. Upon hydrothermal extraction at 140 °C for 1 h, the P extraction efficiency reached 96.7% or higher for these obtained SSIA samples, and then exceptional P sequestration from these EDTA-chelated AMs was realized by the peculiar lanthanum (La)-based nanoadsorbent (having 188.86 mg P/g adsorbent at pH ∼ 3.0). Relevant theoretical calculations unraveled that these delocalized electrons of tetravalent EDTA molecules boosted the enclosure of liberated AMs, thereby entailing a substantially increased negative adsorption energy (-408.7 kcal/mol) of P in the form of H2PO4- through intruding lattice-edged carbonates to coordinate La with monodentate mononuclear over LaCO5(1 0 1). This work highlights the prospect of molecular adaptation of these common extractants in wet-chemical P recovery from various P-included wastes, further sustaining global P circularity.

BACKGROUND: The traditional surgical procedures for upper lumbar disc herniation (ULDH) usually lead to frequent complications. We aim to investigate the clinical efficacy of the unilateral biportal endoscopy (UBE) technique in treating upper lumbar disc herniation (ULDH). METHODS: From January 2020 to December 2021, the clinical data of 28 patients with ULDH treated with the UBE technique were collected and analyzed for surgery time under UBE, postsurgical drainage, postsurgical hospital stay, and complications. The clinical efficacy was evaluated according to the modified MacNab score, Oswestry disability index (ODI), and visual analogue scale (VAS) of low back pain and lower limb pain before the surgery; one week, one month, and three months after the surgery; and at the last follow-up. RESULTS: All patients underwent the UBE surgery successfully. The surgery time under UBE for non-fusion cases was 47.50 ± 11.84 min (monosegment) and 75.00 ± 20.66 min (two segments), while that for fusion cases was 77.50 ± 21.02 min. The postsurgical drainage for non-fusion cases was 25.00 ± 13.94 mL (monosegment) and 38.00 ± 11.83 mL (two segments), while that for fusion cases was 71.25 ± 31.72 mL. The postsurgical hospital stay was 8.28 ± 4.22 days. The follow-up time was 15.82 ± 4.54 months. The VAS score for each time period after the surgery was significantly lower (P < 0.05), while the ODI was significantly higher than that before the surgery (P < 0.05). According to the modified MacNab scoring standard, the ratio of excellent to good was 96.43% at the last follow-up. Two patients experienced transient numbness and pain in their lower limbs and no activity disorder after the surgery, and they recovered after conservative treatment. CONCLUSIONS: The clinical effect of UBE technique in treating ULDH was reliable. According to the needs of the disease, the interlaminar approach or paraspinal approach of the UBE technique was selected. This technique took into account the effect of treatment, achieved the purpose of minimal invasiveness, and did not require special instruments. Therefore, it has the potential for clinical application.

BACKGROUND: The technique of spinal decompression under endoscopy has been widely applied, but reports on endoscopic cervical fixation are rare. The unilateral biportal endoscopic (UBE) technique stands out for its lesser muscle intrusion and more flexible surgical approach. METHOD: We applied the UBE approach for cervical fixation and laminectomy. We achieved bilateral lateral mass screw fixation by making an auxiliary UBE portal combined with the Roy-Camille and Magerl techniques. CONCLUSIONS: Our successful implementation of cervical fixation using the UBE technique at the C3/4 level suggests its efficacy. This approach is a valuable and minimally invasive option for cervical fixation.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopically assisted screw fixation with lumbar interbody fusion is rarely performed. We succeeded in implanting the cortical bone trajectory (CBT) screws under the guidance of unilateral biportal endoscopy (UBE). METHOD: We attempted endoscopically assisted screw fixation in a patient with degenerative spondylolisthesis. Through a third portal, ipsilateral CBT screws were implanted without complications. CONCLUSIONS: We successfully performed unilateral biportal endoscopic lumbar interbody fusion (ULIF) with CBT and reversed CBT screws. Compared with percutaneous pedicle screw (PPS) placement, this procedure is a minimally invasive, endoscopic alternative that allows precise screw placement.

The transmission spectrum of a narrow-band interference filter is crucial and highly influenced by factors such as the temperature and angle, thus requiring precise and online measurements. The traditional method of measuring the transmission spectrum of an interference filter involves the use of a spectrometer, but the accuracy of this method is limited. Moreover, placing a narrow-band interference filter inside a spectrometer hinders real-time online measurements. To address this issue, there is demand for high-precision online spectral testing methods. In response to this demand, we propose and experimentally validate a fine spectral characterization method for narrow-band interference filters. This method uses a narrow-linewidth tunable laser, achieving a spectral resolution in the MHz range for online testing. Two types of narrow-band interference filters were tested using the constructed laser spectroscopy experimental system, obtaining a transmission spectrum with a spectral resolution of 318 MHz. In comparison to spectrometer-based methods, our proposed method demonstrates higher spectral accuracy, enables online measurements, and provides more accurate measurements for special spectral interference filters. This approach has significant application value and promising development prospects.

This study investigated how older Chinese immigrants in affordable senior housing facilities (ASHs) appraise and cope with anti-Asian discrimination and related stress during the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualitative interviews were conducted with 26 participants aged over 65, analyzing verbatim transcripts and field notes using thematic analysis. Four major domains were identified: (1) discriminatory experience, (2) appraisals of discrimination stress, (3) coping strategies, and (4) rationales behind coping. Among the participants, 11 (42%) reported experiencing discrimination either personally or by someone they know. Participants' appraisals of discrimination stress varied, and most of them opted for disengagement coping strategies (e.g., avoidance, rationalization) attributing them to health concerns, individual characteristics, environmental and societal factors, and low acculturation. The findings suggest the need for more social and community resources to enhance coping capacity and resilience in this vulnerable population.

The involvement of necroptosis in the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment has been established and has been shown to contribute to the growth of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, indicating its role in promoting tumor development. However, the relationship between necroptosis and bladder urothelial carcinoma (BUC) has yet to be fully understood. To shed light on this issue, our study aimed to uncover the impact of necroptosis on immune cell infiltration and immunotherapy response in BUC patients. We conducted an analysis of 67 necroptosis genes to assess their expression and genomic changes across pan-cancer and identified 12 necroptosis genes that are prognostically relevant and associated with immune subtypes and tumor stemness in BUC. Using a public database of 1841 BUC samples, we then performed Unsupervised Cluster Analysis and discovered two distinct necroptotic phenotypes in BUC. These phenotypes showed significant differences in molecular subtypes, immune infiltration patterns, and gene mutation profiles. We confirmed this discovery in BUC through qPCR and WB experiments. To evaluate the impact of necroptosis on prognosis, chemotherapy sensitivity, and immunotherapy response (such as anti-PD-L1), we developed a principal component analysis model called NecroScore. Finally, we validated the effects of RIPK3 and MLKL through a nude mouse transplantation model for BUC. Our study has uncovered that necroptosis plays a role in shaping the tumor immune microenvironment in BUC. The high necroptosis phenotype (Cluster B) was characterized by a higher abundance of tumor immunosuppressive cells and more key biological processes driving tumor progression, while the low necroptosis group (Cluster A) had higher FGFR3 mutations. We found that the infiltration levels of immune cells, including CD8+ T cells, were significantly different between FGFR3 mutated and wild-type (WT) samples. Our results confirmed the reliability of NecroScore as a comprehensive assessment tool for evaluating the immunotherapeutic effect and prognosis of BUC patients, with high NecroScore values favoring basal-like differentiation and lower FGFR3 alterations. We also observed that high expression of MLKL had a significant inhibitory effect on tumor growth and increased neutrophil infiltration in vivo. In our study, we uncovered the regulation pattern of necroptosis in the tumor immune microenvironment of BUC. Additionally, we developed a scoring tool called NecroScore that can be utilized to predict the most suitable chemotherapy and immunotherapy strategy for bladder urothelial carcinoma patients. This tool can effectively guide the chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens for patients with advanced BUC.

Glucocorticoid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (GIONFH) is deeply relevant to damage and dysfunction of bone microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs). Recently, necroptosis, a newly programmed cell death with necrotic appearance, has garnered increasing attention. Luteolin, a flavonoid compound derived from Rhizoma Drynariae, has numerous pharmacological properties. However, the effect of Luteolin on BMECs in GIONFH through the necroptosis pathway has not been extensively investigated. Based on network pharmacology analysis, 23 genes were identified as potential targets for the therapeutic effect of Luteolin in GIONFH via the necroptosis pathway, with RIPK1, RIPK3, and MLKL being the hub genes. Immunofluorescence staining results revealed high expression of vWF and CD31 in BMECs. In vitro experiments showed that incubation with dexamethasone led to reduced proliferation, migration, angiogenesis ability, and increased necroptosis of BMECs. However, pretreatment with Luteolin attenuated this effect. Based on molecular docking analysis, Luteolin exhibited strong binding affinity with MLKL, RIPK1, and RIPK3. Western blotting was utilized to detect the expression of p-MLKL, MLKL, p-RIPK3, RIPK3, p-RIPK1, and RIPK1. Intervention with dexamethasone resulted in a significant increase in the p-RIPK1/RIPK1 ratio, but the effects of dexamethasone were effectively counteracted by Luteolin. Similar findings were observed for the p-RIPK3/RIPK3 ratio and the p-MLKL/MLKL ratio, as anticipated. Therefore, this study demonstrates that Luteolin can reduce dexamethasone-induced necroptosis in BMECs via the RIPK1/RIPK3/MLKL pathway. These findings provide new insights into the mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects of Luteolin in GIONFH treatment. Additionally, inhibiting necroptosis could be a promising novel approach for GIONFH therapy.

High hydrophilicity and soil fixation collectively hamper the delivery of phosphorus (P) released from conventional chemical phosphorus fertilizers (CPFs) to plant rhizosphere for efficient uptake. Here, a phosphorus nutrient nanocarrier (PNC) based on morphology-tailored nanohydroxyapatite (HAP) is constructed. By virtue of kinetic control of building blocks with designed calcium phosphate intermediates, rod-like and hexagonal prism-like PNCs are synthesized, both having satisfactory hydrophobicity (water contact angle of 105.4- 132.9°) and zeta potential (-17.43 to -58.4 mV at pH range from 3 to 13). Greenhouse experiments demonstrate that the P contents increase by up to 183% in maize rhizosphere and up to 16% in maize biomass when compared to the CPF. Due to the water potential gradient driven by photosynthesis and transpiration, both PNCs are stably transported to maize rhizosphere, and they are capable to counteract soil fixation prior to uptake by plant roots. Within the synergies of the HAP morphological characteristics and triggered phosphate starvation response, root anatomy confirms that two pathways are elucidated to enhance plant P replenishment from the PNCs. Together with structure tunability and facile synthesis, our results offer a new nanodelivery prototype to accommodate plant physiological traits by tailoring the morphology of HAP.

Even though the direct hydrogenation of CO2 into aromatics has been realized via a methanol-mediated pathway and multifunctional catalyst, few works have been focused on the simultaneously rational design of each component in multifunctional catalyst to improve the performance. Also, the structure-function relationship between aromatics synthesis performance and the different catalytic components (reducible metal oxide and acidic zeolite) has been rarely investigated. Herein, we increase the oxygen vacancy (Ov ) density in reducible Cr2 O3 by sequential carbonization and oxidation (SCO) treatments of Cr-based metal-organic frameworks. Thanks to the enriched Ov , Cr2 O3 -based catalyst affords high methanol selectivity of 98.1 % (without CO) at a CO2 conversion of 16.8 % under high reaction temperature (350 °C). Furthermore, after combining with the acidic zeolite H-ZSM-5, the multifunctional catalyst realizes the direct conversion of CO2 into aromatics with conversion and selectivity as high as 25.4 % and 80.1 % (without CO), respectively. The property of acid site in H-ZSM-5, especially the Al species that located at the intersection of straight and sinusoidal channels, plays a vital role in enhancing the aromatics selectivity, which can be precisely controlled by varying the hydrothermal synthesis conditions. Our work provides a synergistic strategy to boost the aromatics synthesis performance from CO2 hydrogenation.

Recent studies have discovered an association between the PFN1 gene and Paget's disease. However, it is currently unknown whether the PFN1 gene is related to osteoporosis. This study was performed to investigate the association of Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) in the PFN1 gene with Bone Mineral Density (BMD) as well as bone turnover markers and osteoporotic fractures in Chinese subjects. A total of 2836 unrelated Chinese subjects comprising 1247 healthy subjects and 1589 osteoporotic fractures patients (Fracture group) were enrolled in this study. Seven tagSNPs (rs117337116, rs238243, rs6559, rs238242, rs78224458, rs4790714, and rs13204) of the PFN1 gene were genotyped. The BMD of the lumbar spine 1-4 (L1-4), femoral neck, and total hip as well as bone turnover markers, such as ß-C-Terminal telopeptide of type 1 collagen (ß-CTX) and Procollagen type 1 N-terminal Propeptide (P1NP), were measured. The association between 7 tagSNPs and BMD and bone turnover markers was analyzed in 1247 healthy subjects only. After age matching, we selected 1589 osteoporotic fracture patients (Fracture group) and 756 nonfracture controls (Control group, selected from 1247 healthy subjects) for a case-control study, respectively. For the case-control study, we used logistic regression to investigate the relationship between 7 tagSNPs and osteoporotic fractures risk. In the All group, the PFN1 haplotype GAT was associated with the ß-CTX (P = 0.007). In the Female group, the PFN1 haplotype GAT was associated with the ß-CTX (P = 0.005). In the Male group, the rs13204, the rs78224458, and the PFN1 haplotype GAC were associated with the BMD of the L1-4 (all P = 0.012); the rs13204, the rs78224458, and the PFN1 haplotype GAC were associated with the BMD of the femoral neck (all P = 0.012); the rs13204 and rs78224458 were associated with the BMD of the total hip (both P = 0.015); and the PFN1 haplotype GAT was associated with the ß-CTX (P = 0.013). In the subsequent case-control study, the rs13204 and rs78224458 in the male group were associated with the risk of L1-4 fracture (P = 0.016 and 0.010, respectively) and total hip fracture (P = 0.013 and 0.016, respectively). Our study reveals that PFN1 gene polymorphisms are associated with BMD in Chinese males and ß-CTX in Chinese people and confirmed the relationship between PFN1 gene polymorphisms and Chinese male osteoporotic fractures in a case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Primary family caregivers of older people with chronic care conditions are highly vulnerable to social isolation and psychological strains such as depression and anxiety due to their demanding responsibilities. This study examines how social isolation mediates the relationship between caregiving stress and mental health symptoms of primary family caregivers. METHODS: The analytic sample included 881 primary caregivers of older adults from the 2015 and 2017 National Study of Caregiving (NSOC). Social isolation was measured using a composite structure that includes objective social disconnectedness and subjective loneliness. Two-wave mediation models were estimated to examine longitudinally if social isolation mediated the relationship between caregiving stress (subjective & objective stress) and mental health symptoms (depression & anxiety) of primary caregivers. RESULTS: The study findings indicate that both subjective (ß = 0.32, p < 0.001) and objective stress (ß = 0.21, p = 0.003) have direct effects on depression among primary caregivers. Social isolation was found to only mediate the relationship between objective stress and depression (ß = 0.18, p < 0.001). In contrast, no significant direct and indirect pathway was found in the anxiety model. CONCLUSIONS: The study demonstrates the internal mechanism where objective strains of caregiving make family caregivers socially isolated, which in turn leads to increased symptoms of depression. Future interventions and practices aimed at improving the psychological well-being of family caregivers should prioritize strategies aimed at increasing social engagement, particularly for those with heavy caregiver burdens.

BACKGROUND: Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) with a single cage and bilateral pedicle screw fixation results in decreased stability or increased risk of cage displacement Wang and Guo (Comput Methods Biomech Biomed Eng, 24(3):308-319, 6). We succeeded in inserting double traversing cages with unilateral pedicle screw fixation (UPSF) during far lateral TLIF using unilateral biportal endoscopy (UBE). METHOD: We attempted far lateral UBE-TLIF through two small incisions for degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis with unilateral stenosis. With the help of novel instruments, far lateral UBE-TLIF with double traversing cages and UPSF was performed under tracheal intubation anaesthesia. CONCLUSIONS: We successfully performed far lateral UBE-TLIF with double traversing cages and UPSF. This procedure may be an alternative minimally invasive method for treating lumbar instability.

BACKGROUND: Telehealth has gained substantial attention during the COVID-19 pandemic, and reimbursement policies in health care settings have increased access to remote modes of care delivery. Telehealth has the potential to mitigate care concerns for people living with dementia and their family caregivers. There is a paucity of knowledge on the performance of telehealth services and user experiences, especially among caregiving dyads during the pandemic. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to describe the implementation, effectiveness, user experience, and barriers to accessing and using telehealth services for people living with dementia and their caregivers during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: Following the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews) checklist, we searched 7 databases (PubMed, PsycINFO, AgeLine, CINAHL, Social Services Abstracts, Web of Science, and Scopus) and a web-based search engine (Google Scholar). The inclusion criteria for peer-reviewed English publications from March 2020 to August 2022 consisted of studies related to telehealth services for people living with dementia and their family caregivers and studies conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic. RESULTS: A total of 24 articles (10 quantitative and 14 qualitative studies) from 10 different countries were included. The major findings of the reviewed articles were extracted and organized into the following 4 themes: study design characteristics-strategies were adopted to improve the accessibility and experience of people living with dementia-caregiver dyads; efficacy outcomes of telehealth services-robust evidence is lacking on the comparative effectiveness of in-person services; perceived experiences of people living with dementia and caregivers-most reviewed studies reported positive experiences of using telehealth services and perceived personal and social benefits from their participants; and barriers to accessing and using telehealth services-several barriers related to individuals, infrastructure, and telehealth environments were identified. CONCLUSIONS: Although evidence of its effectiveness is still limited, telehealth is widely accepted as a viable alternative to in-person care for high-risk groups, such as people living with dementia and their caregivers. Future research should include expanding digital access for those with limited resources and low technology literacy, adopting randomized controlled trial designs to establish the comparative effectiveness of different modes of service delivery, and increasing the sample diversity.

OBJECTIVE: Chinese immigrant older adults who live in affordable housing are at high risk of experiencing social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, which can affect their mental health. Using a triangulation mixed-methods approach, this study describes Chinese immigrant older adults' social network, mental health status, and their associations during the pandemic. METHODS: Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 26 Chinese immigrant older adults from June to August 2021. The structure and characteristics of participants' social networks were assessed with a name-generating approach. Mental health status was self-reported with Geriatric Depression Scale and UCLA loneliness scale. RESULTS: This sample (mean age = 78.12, 69.23% female), on average, had 5.08 social ties in their network, and 58% were family ties. Participants reported decreased social contact, family and friends interaction patterns specific to immigrants, and constantly being in a low mood and bored. Having closer relationships with others and maintaining the same or higher contact frequency after COVID-19 onset was associated with fewer depressive symptoms. Resilience from religious beliefs, neighbors as role models, and wisdom learned from past experiences were reported. CONCLUSION: Knowledge built in this study can inform respondence to future crises like the COVID-19 pandemic in affordable housing settings serving older immigrant populations.

BACKGROUND: The evolution in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) management has been summarised in three iterations of the European Society of Cardiology/European Respiratory Society (ESC/ERS) guidelines. No study has assessed whether changes in management, as reflected in the changing guidelines, has translated to improved long-term survival in PAH. METHODS: We performed a mixed retrospective/prospective analysis of treatment-naïve, incident PAH patients (n=392) diagnosed at three major centres in Canada from 2009 to 2021. Patients were divided into two groups based on their diagnosis date and in accordance with the 2009 and 2015 ESC/ERS guideline iterations. Overall survival was assessed based on date of diagnosis and initial treatment strategy (i.e. monotherapy versus combination therapy). RESULTS: There was a shift towards more aggressive upfront management with combination therapy in Canada after the publication of the 2015 ESC/ERS guidelines (10.4% and 30.8% in patients from 2009 to 2015 and 36.0% and 57.4% in patients diagnosed after 2015 for baseline and 2-year follow-up, respectively). A key factor associated with combination therapy after 2015 was higher pulmonary vascular resistance (p=0.009). The 1-, 3- and 5-year survival rates in Canada were 89.2%, 75.6% and 56.0%, respectively. Despite changes in management, there was no improvement in long-term survival before and after publication of the 2015 ESC/ERS guidelines (p=0.53). CONCLUSIONS: There was an increase in the use of initial and sequential combination therapy in Canada after publication of the 2015 ESC/ERS guidelines, which was not associated with improved long-term survival. These data highlight the continued difficulties of managing this aggressive pulmonary disease in an era without a cure.

The proportion of pet keeping has increased significantly. According to the survey results of Business Next, the proportion of Taiwan families keeping pets was 70% in 2020. Among them, the total number of fish pets was close to 33% of the overall pet proportion. Therefore, aquarium pets have become indispensable companions for families. At present, many studies have discussed intelligent aquarium systems. Through image recognition based on visual sensors, we may be able to detect and interpret the physiological status of the fish according to their physiological appearance. In this way, it can help to notify the owner as soon as possible to treat the fish or isolate them individually, so as to avoid the spread of infection. However, most aquarium pets are kept in groups. Traditional image recognition technologies often fail to recognize each fish's physiological states precisely because of fish swimming behaviors, such as grouping swimming, shading with each other, flipping over, and so on. In view of this, this paper tries to address such problems and then proposes a practical scheme, which includes three phases. Specifically, the first phase tries to enhance the image recognition model for small features based on the prioritizing rules, thus improving the instant recognition capability. Then, the second phase exploits a designed fish-ID tracking mechanism and analyzes the physiological state of the same fish-ID through coherent frames, which can avoid temporal misidentification. Finally, the third phase leverages a fish-ID correction mechanism, which can detect and correct their IDs periodically and dynamically to avoid tracking confusion, and thus potentially improve the recognition accuracy. According to the experiment results, it was verified that our scheme has better recognition performance. The best accuracy and correctness ratio can reach up to 94.9% and 92.67%, which are improved at least 8.41% and 26.95%, respectively, as compared with the existing schemes.

BACKGROUND: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most prevalent non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Patients with LUAD have a poor 5-year survival rate. The use of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) for the treatment of LUAD has been on the rise in the past decade. This study explored the prognostic role of butyrophilin-like 9 (BTNL9) in LUAD. METHODS: Gene expression profile of buytrophilins (BTNs) was determined using the GEPIA database. The effect of BTNL9 on the survival of LUAD patients was assessed using Kaplan-Meier plotter and OncoLnc. Correlation between BTNL9 expression and tumor-infiltrating immune cells (TILs) was explored using TIMER and GEPIA databases. Further, the relationship between BTNL9 expression and drug response was evaluated using CARE. Besides, construction and evaluation of nomogram based on BTNL9 expression and TNM stage. RESULTS: BTNL9 expression was downregulated in LUAD and was associated with a poor probability of 1, 3, 5-years overall survival (OS). In addition, BTNL9 expression was regulated at epigenetic and post-transcriptional modification levels. Moreover, BTNL9 expression was significantly positively correlated with ImmuneScore and ESTIMATEScore. Furthermore, BTNL9 expression was positively associated with infiltration levels of B cells, CD4+ T cells, and macrophages. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that BTNL9 expression in B cells and dendritic cells (DCs) was significantly associated with OS. BTNL9 expression was significantly positively correlated with CARE scores. CONCLUSIONS: These findings show that BTNL9 is a potential prognostic biomarker for LUAD. Low BTNL9 expression levels associated with low infiltration levels of naïve B cells, and DCs in the tumor microenvironment are unfavorable for OS in LUAD patients.
