RESUMEN

The role of lncRNAs in the pathogenesis of cancer, including colorectal cancer (CRC), has repeatedly been demonstrated. However, very few lncRNAs have been well annotated functionally. Our study identified a novel lncRNA upregulated in CRC, NONHSAT136151, which was correlated with clinical progression. In functional assays, NONHSAT136151 significantly enhanced CRC cell proliferation, migration and invasion. Mechanistically, NONHSAT136151 interacted with RNA-binding protein (RBP) QKI (Quaking) to interfere with QKI binding to target mRNAs and regulate their expression. As well, FOXP3 may be causally related to the dysregulation of NONHSAT136151 in CRC cells through its transcriptional activity. In conclusion, our findings identified a novel lncRNA regulated by FOXP3 participates in CRC progression through interacting with QKI, indicating a novel lncRNA-RBP interaction mechanism is involved in CRC pathogenesis.

RESUMEN

The present artificial anal sphincter fails to distinguish the different states of intestinal contents. In this study, we tried to distinguish the intestinal content by using a reflection type ultrasonic system, so as to lay the foundation for the development of artificial anal sphincter with sensing function. We measured the numbers of reflected waves when there were solid, liquid, gaseous or no contents in the recta of 30 Bama Miniature pigs. The results showed significant difference among the numbers of reflected waves of the 4 conditions ( F = 1 088, P < 0.05). Our research suggested the reflection-type ultrasonic system could be utilized to distinguish various contents inside the intestinal lumen, thus it might offer a new effective method for the development of artificial anal sphincter with sensing function.

Introduction: With China embracing a new people-centered urbanization stage, the problem of migrants "flowing without moving" has become increasingly prominent, and settlement intention has gradually garnered attention. Methods: Our research, based on questionnaire data from the China Labor Force Dynamic Survey 2016, uses a multilevel linear regression model to explore the influence of mobility, social environment, built environment, and demographics characteristics on settlement intention in the migrants and discusses differences between settlement intention of new and old generations and their internal influence mechanism. Results: The findings are as follows: (1) Compared to the old generation, the new migrant generation generally has higher settlement intention. (2) The migrants' settlement intention is influenced mainly by mobility, social environment, built environment, and demographic characteristics. (3) For the new migrant generation, social and demographic characteristics significantly influence their settlement intention. (4) The floating and built environment of the old generation significantly influence their settlement intention. Discussion: Finally, this paper argues that there are differences in the influence mechanism of the same factors on the settlement intention of the new and old generations of migrants. It proposes differentiated policy suggestions for the migrants to promote city social integration. RESUMEN

Genomic instability, a feature of most cancers, contributes to malignant cell transformation and cancer progression due to the accumulation of genetic alterations. Genomic instability is reflected at numerous levels, from single nucleotide to the chromosome levels. However, the exact molecular mechanisms and regulators of genomic instability in cancer remain unclear. Growing evidence indicates that the binding of long non­coding RNAs (lncRNAs) to protein chaperones confers a variety of regulatory functions, including managing of genomic instability. The aim of the present review was to examine the roles of mitosis, telomeres, DNA repair, and epigenetics in genomic instability, and the mechanisms by which lncRNAs regulate them by binding proteins in cancer cells. This review contributes to our understanding of the role of lncRNAs and genomic instability in cancer and can potentially provide entry points and molecular targets for cancer therapies.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are the most common stromal-derived tumors of the gastrointestinal tract and have a potential metastatic capacity in almost half of all cases, with the most common sites of metastasis being the liver and peritoneum. However, there is evidence that GIST metastasizes to sites other than the liver and peritoneum, which poses challenges for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, the Cochrane and Medline databases were searched via PubMed in July 2022 using relevant keywords to acquire the literature associated with the metastasis of GIST to rare sites published since from 2000 onwards. Study data comprising age, sex, primary location, metastatic site, mean survival time, clinical signs and symptoms, imaging, pathological features immunohistochemical indices, treatment and prognosis were recorded and analyzed. The 118 metastases at rare sites reported in the literature included bone (n=31), lung (n=10), lymph nodes (n=13), intracranial sites (n=13), skin and subcutaneous tissue (n=10), heart (n=7), skeletal muscle (n=7), orbit and choroid (n=6), pancreas (n=3), spleen (n=2), bone marrow (n=1), testis (n=3), scrotum (n=1), epididymis (n=1), penis (n=1), ovary (n=2), cervix (n=1), kidney (n=1), bladder (n=1), adrenal gland (n=2) and thyroid gland (n=2). From the reviewed studies, it may be concluded that when metastases from gastrointestinal stromal tumors occur at rare sites, the initial symptoms may help in the identification of these sites. In addition, the site-dependent imaging of different metastatic locations may further define the metastases, and the findings of pathological or immunohistochemical analyses may be used to confirm the diagnosis.
