RESUMEN
The properties of an interface at the hole transport layer (HTL)/perovskite layer are crucial for the performance and stability of perovskite solar cells (PVSCs), especially the buried interface between HTL and perovskite layer. Here, a molecular named potassium 1-trifluoroboratomethylpiperidine (3FPIP) assistant-modified perovskite bottom interface strategy is proposed to improve the charge transfer capability and balances energy level between HTL and perovskite. BF3 - in the 3FPIP molecule interacts with undercoordinated Pb2+ to passivate iodine vacancies and enhance PVSCs performance. Furthermore, the infiltration of K+ ions into perovskite molecules enhances the crystallinity and stability of perovskite. Therefore, the PVSCs with the buried interface treatment exhibit a champion performance of 24.6%. More importantly, the corresponding devices represent outstanding ambient stability, remaining at 92% of the initial efficiency after 1200 h. This work provides a new method of buried interface engineering with functional group synergy.
RESUMEN
Carbon-based CsPbI3 perovskite solar cells without hole transporter (C-PSCs) have achieved intense attention due to its simple device structure and high chemical stability. However, the severe interface energy loss at the CsPbI3/carbon interface, attributed to the lower hole selectivity for inefficient charge separation, greatly limits device performance. Hence, dipole electric field (DEF) is deployed at the above interface to address the above issue by using a pole molecule, 4-trifluoromethyl-Phenylammonium iodide (CF3-PAI), in which the âNH3 group anchors on the perovskite surface and the âCF3 group extends away from it and connects with carbon electrode. The DEF is proven to align with the built-in electric field, that is pointing toward carbon electrode, which well enhances hole selectivity and charge separation at the interface. Besides, CF3-PAI molecules also serve as defect passivator for reducing trap state density, which further suppresses defect-induced non-radiative recombination. Consequently, the CsPbI3 C-PSCs achieve an excellent efficiency of 18.33% with a high VOC of 1.144 V for inorganic C-PSCs without hole transporter.
RESUMEN
In-based halide perovskites have attracted a lot of attention because of their unique broadband emission properties. Herein, a series of In-based hybrid perovskites of (H2MP)2InCl7·H2O (1), (H2EP)2InCl7·H2O (2), (H2MP)2InBr7·H2O (3), and (H2EP)2InBr7·H2O (4) were synthesized under the control of halogen ions and organic cations. 1, 2, and 4 exhibit obvious photoluminescence properties with peaks at 392, 442, and 652 nm, respectively. The effects of the different components on the crystal structure and photoluminescence properties are discussed by calculating the structural distortion of the [InX6]3- octahedron. The photoluminescence properties of 1 and 4 were significantly improved after Sb3+ doping with PLQY values of 57.12 and 41.53%. Finally, a white LED was successfully fabricated with the two doped compounds coated onto the 365 nm blue LED chip.

The quest for high-performance solar cell absorbers has garnered significant attention in the field of photovoltaic research in recent years. To overcome the Shockley-Queisser (SQ) limit of â¼31% for single junction solar cell and realize higher power conversion efficiency, the concept of an intermediate band solar cell (IBSC) has been proposed. This involves the incorporation of an intermediate band (IB) to assist the three band-edge absorptions within the single absorber layer. BaSnS2 has an appropriate width of its forbidden gap in order to host an IB. In this work, doping of BaSnS2 was studied based on hybrid functional calculations. The results demonstrated that isolated and half-filled IBs were generated with suitable energy states in the band gap region after group-IIIA element (i.e., Al, Ga, and In) doping at Sn site. The theoretical efficiencies under one sun illumination of 39.0%, 44.3%, and 39.7% were obtained for 25% doping concentration of Al, Ga, and In, respectively; thus, larger than the single-junction SQ-limit. Furthermore, the dopants have lower formation energies when substituting the Sn site compare to occupying the Ba and S sites, and that helps realizing a proper IB with three band-edge absorptions. Therefore, group-IIIA element doped BaSnS2 is proposed as a high-efficiency absorber for IBSC.
RESUMEN
Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) have been successfully employed to enhance the efficiency of inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells due to their facile low-temperature processing and superior device performance. Nevertheless, depositing uniform and dense SAMs with high surface coverage on metal oxide substrates remains a critical challenge. In this work, we propose a holistic strategy to construct composite hole transport layers (HTLs) by co-adsorbing mixed SAMs (MeO-2PACz and 2PACz) onto the surface of the H2O2-modified NiOx layer. The results demonstrate that the conductivity of the NiOx bulk phase is enhanced due to the H2O2 modification, thereby facilitating carrier transport. Furthermore, the hydroxyl-rich NiOx surface promotes uniform and dense adsorption of mixed SAM molecules while enhancing their anchoring stability. In addition, the energy level alignment at the interface is improved due to the utilization of mixed SAMs in an optimized ratio. Furthermore, the perovskite film crystal growth is facilitated by the uniform and dense composite HTLs. As a result, the power conversion efficiency of PSCs based on composite HTLs is boosted from 22.26% to 23.16%, along with enhanced operational stability. This work highlights the importance of designing and constructing NiOx/SAM composite HTLs as an effective strategy for enhancing both the performance and stability of inverted PSCs.
RESUMEN
OBJECTIVE: When selecting inhaled therapies, it is important to consider both the active molecules and the device. Extrafine formulation beclomethasone dipropionate plus formoterol fumarate (BDP/FF) has been available for some years delivered via pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI). More recently, a breath-activated, multi-dose dry-powder inhaler (DPI), the NEXThaler, has been approved. The current study aimed to demonstrate the non-inferiority of BDP/FF delivered via the DPI vs. via the pMDI, in Chinese adults with asthma. METHODS: After a four-week run-in period, when all patients received BDP/FF pMDI 100/6 µg, two inhalations twice daily (BID), patients were randomized equally to BDP/FF pMDI or DPI, both 100/6 µg, two inhalations BID for 12 weeks. The primary objective was to demonstrate non-inferiority of BDP/FF DPI vs. BDP/FF pMDI in terms of average pre-dose morning peak expiratory flow (PEF) over the entire treatment period. RESULTS: Of 252 and 242 patients in the DPI and pMDI groups, respectively, 88.5% and 88.8% completed the study. The primary objective was met, with no statistically significant difference between the treatments in average pre-dose morning PEF, and with the lower limit of the 95% CI above the -15 L/min non-inferiority margin (adjusted mean difference: 5.25 L/min [95% CI: -0.56, 11.06]). Adverse events were reported by 48.4% and 49.6% patients in the DPI and pMDI groups, respectively, most mild or moderate. CONCLUSIONS: The NEXThaler DPI is a similarly effective device to the pMDI for the administration of BDP/FF in adults, so extending the options available for the management of asthma.

BACKGROUND: Information on the relation of air pollution with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is scarce. We thus conducted a large cross-sectional study in Asia to investigate the role of air pollution in NAFLD. METHODS: We recruited 329,048 adults (mean age: 41.0 years) without other liver disease (hepatitis and cirrhosis) or excessive alcohol consumption in Taiwan and Hong Kong from 2001 to 2018. The concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ozone (O3) were estimated using a space-time regression model, and the concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was evaluated using a satellite-based spatio-temporal model. NAFLD was determined using either the fatty liver index (FLI) or the hepatic steatosis index (HSI). The NAFLD-related advanced fibrosis was defined according to BARD score or the fibrosis-4 (FIB-4). A logistic regression model was adopted to explore the relationships of ambient air pollution with the odds of NAFLD and NAFLD-related advanced fibrosis. RESULTS: We found positive relationships between PM2.5 and the odds of NAFLD and advanced fibrosis, with every standard deviation (SD, 7.5⯵g/m3) increases in PM2.5 exposure being associated with a 10% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 9%-11%) increment in the prevalence of NAFLD and an 8% (95% CI: 7%-9%) increment in the prevalence of advanced fibrosis. Similarly, the prevalence of NAFLD and advanced fibrosis increased by 8% (95% CI: 7%-9%) and 7% (95% CI: 6%-8%) with per SD (18.9⯵g/m3) increasement in NO2 concentration, respectively. Additionally, for every SD (9.9⯵g/m3) increasement in O3 concentration, the prevalence of NAFLD and advanced fibrosis decreased by 12% (95% CI: 11%-13%) and 11% (95% CI: 9%-12%), respectively. CONCLUSION: Higher ambient PM2.5 and NO2 are linked with higher odds of NAFLD and advanced fibrosis. Our findings indicate that reducing PM2.5 and NO2 concentrations may be an effective way for preventing NAFLD. Further studies on O3 are warranted.

Colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) is one of the tumors with the highest mortality rates. It is of the utmost significance to make an accurate prognostic assessment and to tailor one's treatment to the specific needs of the patient. Multiple lines of evidence point to the possibility that genetic variables and clinicopathological traits are connected to the onset and development of cancer. In the past, a number of studies have revealed that gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor subunit delta (GABRD) plays a role in the advancement of a number of different cancers. However, its function in COAD was rarely reported. In this study, we analyzed TCGA datasets and identified 29 survival-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in COAD patients. In particular, GABRD expression was noticeably elevated in COAD specimens. There was a correlation between high GABRD expression and an advanced clinical stage. According to the results of the survival tests, patients whose GABRD expression was high had a lower overall survival time and progression-free survival time than those whose GABRD expression was low. GABRD expression was found to be an independent predictive predictor for overall survival, as determined by multivariate COX regression analysis. Additionally, the predictive nomogram model can accurately predict the fate of individuals with COAD. In addition, we observed that GABRD expressions were positively associated with the expression of T cells regulatory (Tregs), macrophages M0, while negatively associated with the expression of T cells CD8, T cells follicular helper, macrophages M1, dendritic cells activated, eosinophils, and T cells CD4 memory activated. The IC50 of BI-2536, bleomycin, embelin, FR-180204, GW843682X, LY317615, NSC-207895, rTRAIL, and VX-11e was higher in the GABRD high-expression group. In conclusion, we have shown evidence that GABRD is a novel biomarker that is connected with immune cell infiltration in COAD and may be utilized to predict the prognosis of COAD patients.

Despite increasing concerns about the detrimental effects of air pollution on respiratory health, limited evidence is available on these effects in the Hong Kong population, especially in children. In this prospective cohort study between 2012 and 2017, we aimed to investigate the associations between exposure to air pollution (concentrations of fine particulate matter [PM2.5] and nitrogen dioxide [NO2]) and respiratory health (lung function parameters and respiratory diseases and symptoms) in schoolchildren. We recruited 5612 schoolchildren aged 6-16 years in Hong Kong. We estimated the annual average concentrations of ambient PM2.5 and NO2 at each participant's address using spatiotemporal models. We conducted spirometry tests on all participants to measure their lung function parameters and used a self-administered questionnaire to collect information on their respiratory diseases and symptoms and a wide range of covariates. Linear mixed models were used to investigate the associations between exposure to air pollution and lung function. Mixed-effects logistic regression models with random effects were used to investigate the associations of exposure to air pollution with respiratory diseases and symptoms. In all of the participants, every 5-µg/m3 increase in the ambient PM2.5 concentration was associated with changes of - 13.90 ml (95 % confidence interval [CI]: -23.65 ml, -4.10 ml), - 4.20 ml (-15.60 ml, 7.15 ml), 27.20 ml/s (-3.95 ml/s, 58.35 ml/s), and - 19.80 ml/s (-38.35 ml/s, -1.25 ml/s) in forced expiratory volume in 1 s, forced vital capacity, peak expiratory flow, and maximal mid-expiratory flow, respectively. The corresponding lung function estimates for every 5-µg/m3 increase in the ambient NO2 concentration were - 2.70 ml (-6.05 ml, 0.60 ml), - 1.40 ml (-5.40 ml, 2.60 ml), - 6.60 ml/s (-19.75 ml/s, 6.55 ml/s), and - 3.05 ml/s (-11.10 ml/s, 5.00 ml/s), respectively. We did not observe significant associations between PM2.5/NO2 exposure and most respiratory diseases and symptoms. Stratified analyses by sex and age showed that the associations between exposure to air pollution and lung function parameters were stronger in male participants and older participants (11-14 year old group) than in female participants and younger participants (6-10 year old group), respectively. Our results suggest that chronic exposure to air pollution is detrimental to the respiratory health of schoolchildren, especially that of older boys. Our findings reinforce the importance of air pollution mitigation to protect schoolchildren's respiratory health.

Propane catalytic oxidation is an important industrial chemical process. However, poor activity is frequently observed for stable C-H bonds, especially for non-noble catalysts in low temperature. Herein, we reported a controlled synthesis of catalyst Co3O4@CeO2-IE via inverse loading and proposed a strategy of oxygen vacancy for its high catalytic oxidation activity, achieving better performance than traditional supported catalyst Co3O4/CeO2-IM, i.e., the T50 (temperature at 50% propane conversion) of 217 °C vs. 235 °C and T90 (temperature at 90% propane conversion) of 268 °C vs. 348 °C at the propane space velocity of 60,000 mL g-1 h-1. Further investigations indicate that there are more enriched oxygen vacancies in Co3O4@CeO2-IE due to the unique preparation method. This work provides an element doping strategy to effectively boost the propane catalytic oxidation performance as well as a bright outlook for efficient environmental catalysts.
RESUMEN
Traditional air quality data have a spatial resolution of 1 km or above, making it challenging to resolve detailed air pollution exposure in complex urban areas. Combining urban morphology, dynamic traffic emission, regional and local meteorology, physicochemical transformations in air quality models using big data fusion technology, an ultra-fine resolution modeling system was developed to provide air quality data down to street level. Based on one-year ultra-fine resolution data, this study investigated the effects of pollution heterogeneity on the individual and population exposure to particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and ozone (O3) in Hong Kong, one of the most densely populated and urbanized cities. Sharp fine-scale variabilities in air pollution were revealed within individual city blocks. Using traditional 1 km average to represent individual exposure resulted in a positively skewed deviation of up to 200% for high-end exposure individuals. Citizens were disproportionally affected by air pollution, with annual pollutant concentrations varied by factors of 2 to 5 among 452 District Council Constituency Areas (DCCAs) in Hong Kong, indicating great environmental inequities among the population. Unfavorable city planning resulted in a positive spatial coincidence between pollution and population, which increased public exposure to air pollutants by as large as 46% among districts in Hong Kong. Our results highlight the importance of ultra-fine pollutant data in quantifying the heterogeneity in pollution exposure in the dense urban area and the critical role of smart urban planning in reducing exposure inequities.

In this study, we aimed to examine the combined associations of particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter less than or equal to 2.5 µm (PM2.5) and habitual exercise with pneumonia mortality. We included 384,130 persons aged ≥18 years from Taiwan, Republic of China, during 2001-2016. We followed participants until May 31, 2019, to obtain information on vital status. A time-dependent Cox regression model was used for statistical analysis. We found that risks of pneumonia mortality were reduced by 55% (hazard ratio (HR) = 0.45, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.36, 0.55) and 36% (HR = 0.64, 95% CI: 0.52, 0.80) in participants who engaged in high and moderate levels of exercise, respectively, as compared with inactive persons. By contrast, each 10-µg/m3 increase in chronic PM2.5 exposure was associated with a 30% (HR = 1.30, 95% CI: 1.17, 1.45) higher risk of pneumonia mortality. Risk of pneumonia death was 72% lower (HR = 0.28, 95% CI: 0.20, 0.41) for persons with a high exercise level and a low PM2.5 level. Lower risk of pneumonia mortality was associated with both higher exercise and lower PM2.5 air pollution levels. For adults exposed to different levels of PM2.5, exercise benefits remained. Our findings suggest that engaging in exercise is a safe and effective strategy for alleviating the burden of pneumonia mortality, even for people who reside in a moderately polluted area.

BACKGROUND: Quantitative point-of-care testing assay for detecting antibodies is critical to COVID-19 control. In this study, we established an up-conversion phosphor technology-based point-of-care testing (UPT-POCT), a lateral flow assay, for rapid COVID-19 diagnosis, as well as prediction of seral neutralizing antibody (NAb) activity and protective effects. METHODS: UPT-POCT was developed targeting total antibodies against the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Using ELISA as a contrast method, we evaluated the quantitation accuracy with NAb and serum samples. Cutoff for serum samples was determined through 70 healthy and 140 COVID-19 patients. We evaluated the cross-reactions with antibodies against other viruses. Then, we performed multi-center clinical trials of UPT-POCT, including 782 patients with 387 clinically confirmed COVID-19 cases. Furthermore, RBD-specific antibody levels were detected using UPT-POCT and microneutralization assay for samples from both patients and vaccinees. Specifically, the antibodies of recovered patients with recurrent positive (RP) reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction test results were discussed. RESULTS: The ratios of signal intensities between the test and control bands on the lateral flow strip, namely, T/C ratios, was defined as the results of UPT-POCT. T/C ratios had excellent correlations with concentrations of NAb, as well as OD values of ELISA for serum samples. The sensitivity and specificity of UPT-POCT were 89.15% and 99.75% for 782 cases in seven hospitals in China, respectively. We evaluated RBD-specific antibodies for 528 seral samples from 213 recovered and 99 RP COVID-19 patients, along with 35 seral samples from inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccinees, and we discovered that the total RBD-specific antibody level indicated by T/C ratios of UPT-POCT was significantly related to the NAb titers in both COVID-19 patients (r = 0.9404, n = 527; ρ = 0.6836, n = 528) and the vaccinees (r = 0.9063, ρ = 0.7642, n = 35), and it was highly relevant to the protection rate against RP (r = 0.9886, n = 312). CONCLUSION: This study reveals that the UPT-POCT for quantitative detection of total RBD-specific antibody could be employed as a surrogate method for rapid COVID-19 diagnosis and prediction of protective effects.

BACKGROUND: Cohort studies on the association between long-term exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and mortality have been well established for America and Europe, but limited and inconsistent in Asia with much higher air pollution. This study aims to investigate the associations between ambient PM2.5 and all-cause and cause-specific mortality over a period of rising and then declining PM2.5. METHODS: We enrolled a total of 400,459 adults from an open cohort between 2001 and 2016, and followed them up until 31 May 2019. We obtained mortality data from the National Death Registry maintained by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in Taiwan. We estimated ambient PM2.5 exposures using a satellite-based spatiotemporal model. We performed a Cox regression model with time-dependent covariates to investigate the associations of PM2.5 with deaths from all causes and specific causes. RESULTS: This study identified 14,627 deaths and had a total of 5 million person-years of follow-up. Each 10 µg/m3 increase in PM2.5 was associated with an increased hazard risk of 29% (95% confidence interval: 24%-35%) in all-cause mortality. Risk of death increased by 30% for natural causes, 20% for cancer, 42% for cardiovascular disease (CVD) causes, and 53% for influenza and pneumonia causes, for each 10 µg/m3 increase in PM2.5. Sensitivity analyses generally yielded similar results. CONCLUSION: Long-term exposure to ambient PM2.5 was associated with increased risks of all-cause mortality and deaths from cancers, natural causes, CVD, and influenza and pneumonia. Longitudinal study design should be encouraged for air pollution epidemiologic investigation.

Searching for an earth-abundant and environment-friendly absorber for thin-film solar cells that provides similar power conversion efficiency to CdTe and Cu(In,Ga)Se2 is of great importance for large-scale applications. Success would change the world's solar energy supply to an even more sustainable material resource. In this paper, we have studied by first-principles calculations the electronic structure and defect properties of the promising absorber Cu3SbS4. Its electronic properties, like direct band gap, high absorption coefficient, and light carrier effective masses, satisfy the requirements for an absorber except for its somewhat too small band gap energy. Sulfur and copper vacancies are easily formed defects in Cu3SbS4, where the S vacancy shrinks the band gap and degrades the material. This probably explains the experimental findings of a rather poor device performance. The suitable preparation conditions for Cu3SbS4 as an absorber are anticipated to be Cu-poor, Sb-moderate, and S-rich conditions. Herein, isovalent element alloying is demonstrated to be an effective way to increase the gap energy and thereby improve the material properties.
RESUMEN
OBJECTIVES: Exercise may increase the inhaled amount of air pollutants and exacerbate the adverse health effects. We investigated the combined effects of chronic exposure to fine particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 µm (PM2.5) and habitual exercise on C reactive protein (CRP), a sensitive marker of inflammation. METHODS: We selected 40 209 Taiwanese adults who joined a standard medical screening programme between 2001 and 2016. The PM2.5 exposure was estimated at each participant's address using a satellite-based spatiotemporal model. Information on habitual exercise was collected using a standard self-administered questionnaire. Mixed-effects linear regression models were used to investigate the associations of CRP with PM2.5 and exercise. An interaction term of PM2.5 and exercise was introduced in the models to test the modifying effects. RESULTS: A greater amount of habitual exercise was associated with a decreased level of CRP, while a higher concentration of PM2.5 exposure was associated with an increased level of CRP. The inverse associations of habitual exercise with CRP were not modified by chronic exposure to PM2.5. The participants in the group with a low level of exercise and a high level of PM2.5 exposure exhibited a 19.1% higher level of CRP than those in the group with a high level of exercise and a low level of PM2.5 exposure (95% CI: 13.7% to 24.8%; p<0.001). The longitudinal and sensitivity analyses yielded similar results. CONCLUSIONS: Increased levels of exercise and reduced exposure levels of PM2.5 are associated with a lower CRP level. Habitual exercise reduces CRP level regardless of the levels of chronic PM2.5 exposure. Our results support that habitual exercise is a safe approach for reducing systemic inflammation to improve cardiovascular health even for people residing in relatively polluted areas.

INTRODUCTION: Green space and air pollution have been recognized as vital health determinants. There is a paucity of studies examining the interplay between green space, fine particulate matter (PM2.5), and the incidence of specific cancers. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to explore the contributions of green space and ambient PM2.5 to the risk of specific cancers in terms of the most common cancers based on incidence or mortality rate in Taiwan and to ascertain the interaction between green space and PM2.5 and their role in cancer risk. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective longitudinal cohort study included 407,415 participants. Data were obtained from the 2000-2015 Mei Jau Health Examination Database linked to the Taiwan Cancer Registry and Causes of Death datasets. All participants were aged ≥20 years and had no history of cancer. The environmental exposure were the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and the 2-year average PM2.5 at baseline. Multivariate adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) were calculated using Cox proportional hazards models. We adjusted for covariates including demographics, anthropometrics, comorbidities, health behaviors, biochemical data, and environmental factors. RESULTS: During a median follow-up of 10.37 years, 11,576 cancer cases were reported. PM2.5 exposure increased the risk of all cancers (HR: 1.11, [95% CI: 1.06-1.15]), stomach cancer (HR: 1.27, [1.02-1.58]), endocrine gland cancer (HR: 2.13, [1.39-3.26]), breast cancer (HR: 1.12, [1.03-1.22]), and lung cancer (HR: 1.12, [1.01-1.24]). An increase in NDVI reduced the risk of prostate cancer (HR: 0.93, [0.88-0.99]) and lung cancer (HR: 0.95, [0.91-0.99]). NDVI influenced the incidence of prostate and all cancers by reducing PM2.5 concentrations. CONCLUSION: Long-term PM2.5 exposure is associated with an increased risk of some types of cancers. In contrast, an increase in environmental green space exposure is associated with lowering of the risk of prostate and lung cancer.

BACKGROUND: Few studies have examined the effects of multi-pollutant air pollution on renal health, especially in children and adolescents. This study investigated the association between long-term ambient air pollution exposure and renal health in Asian children and adolescents. METHODS: This study included 10,942 children and adolescents from Taiwan and Hong Kong between 2000 and 2017. PM2.5, NO2 and O3 concentrations were estimated using satellite-based spatiotemporal regression models. Two-year average concentrations, those of the year of visit and the preceding year, were used. Linear mixed models were used to examine the association between air pollution and yearly changes in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Cox regression models with time-dependent covariates were used to examine the association between air pollution and the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD). RESULTS: Median age of the participants was 19 years (range: 2-25). The overall average concentration of PM2.5, NO2 and O3 was 26.7 µg/m3, 44.1 µg/m3 and 51.1 µg/m3, respectively. The mean yearly change in eGFR was 0.37 µL/min/1.73 m2 and the incidence rate of CKD was 6.8 per 1,000 person-years. In single-pollutant models, each 10 µg/m3 increase in PM2.5 was associated with a 0.45 µL/min/1.73 m2 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.28-0.63] reduction in the yearly increase in eGFR and 53% [hazard ratio (HR): 1.53 (95%CI: 1.07-2.2)] greater risk of incident CKD. Each 10 µg/m3 increase in NO2 was associated with a 7% [HR (95%CI): 1.07 (1.00-1.15)] higher risk of incident CKD, while an equivalent increase in O3 was associated with a 19% [HR (95%CI): 0.81 (0.67-0.98)] lower risk. CONCLUSIONS: Long-term exposure to ambient PM2.5 and NO2 was associated with a slower growth of eGFR and a higher risk of incident CKD in children and adolescents. Our findings suggest that air pollution control in early life is imperative to improve lifelong renal health and alleviate the CKD burden.

Objective: The gold immunochromatographic assay for detection of SARS-CoV-2 antigen was evaluated by international multi-center clinical trial. Methods: A total of 1 855 clinical parallel samples with valid test results (for nucleic acid and antigen tests, respectively) were collected from nine countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, France, India, Thailand, Malaysia, the United States of America and Brazil, with sampling period from January 3 to September 22, 2021. These samples were detected by SARS-CoV-2 antigen test kit (colloidal gold immunochromatography assay) and nucleic acid detection kit (real-time fluorescent quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction). Positive coincidence rates [(number of antigen-positive cases/nucleic acid-positive cases)×100%], negative coincidence rates [(number of antigen-negative cases/nucleic acid-negative cases)×100%], total coincidence rates [(number of cases with consistent results for both antigen and nucleic acid detection/number of total cases) ×100%], as well as Kappa values were calculated. The differences of the above indictors among different countries were evaluated by the coefficient of variation. The detection rates of the antigen test for samples with different cycle threshold values (Ct values) for the nucleic acid detection, different characteristics and different mutant strains were analyzed. Results: For all samples, the positive, negative, and total coincidence rate between the antigen test and nucleic acid assay was 90.8% (569/627), 99.7% (1 224/1 228) and 96.7% (1 793/1 855), respectively, and the consistency coefficient Kappa value was 0.924. Among these countries, the coefficient of variation for positive coincidence rates (except for Malaysia with a lot of samples with Ct value>30), negative coincidence rates (except for France without negative samples) and total coincidence rates (except for France) was 6%,<1%, and 6%, respectively. When Ct values were less than 25, the detection rates of antigen test were 83.3%-100% for each countries (the coefficient of variation was 6%); the total detection rate and the coefficient of variation was 93.4% (428/458) and 5%, respectively, for asymptomatic infected persons and cases within 7 days post onset of symptoms; the total detection rate for various SARS-CoV-2 mutant strains was 97.5% (119/122); and it showed negative results for samples from cases infected with other viruses, including influenza A virus subtype H1N1, influenza B virus, respiratory syncytial virus subgroups A and B, coxsackievirus 16, human metapneumovirus, parainfluenza virus types 1 and 4, Epstein-Barr virus and adenovirus. Conclusion: The SARS-CoV-2 antigen test kit showed excellent authenticity, and there were few differences for its indictors among nine countries, therefore it can meet the needs of large-scale early screening of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
