RESUMEN

Motile cilia on the cell surface produce fluid flows in the body and abnormalities in motile cilia cause primary ciliary dyskinesia. Dynein axonemal assembly factor 6 (DNAAF6), a causative gene of primary ciliary dyskinesia, was isolated as an interacting protein with La ribonucleoprotein 6 (LARP6) that regulates ciliogenesis in multiciliated cells (MCCs). In MCCs of Xenopus embryos, LARP6 and DNAAF6 were colocalized in biomolecular condensates termed dynein axonemal particles and synergized to control ciliogenesis. Moreover, tubulin alpha 1c-like mRNA encoding α-tubulin protein, that is a major component of ciliary axoneme, was identified as a target mRNA regulated by binding LARP6. While DNAAF6 was necessary for high α-tubulin protein expression near the apical side of Xenopus MCCs during ciliogenesis, its mutant, which abolishes binding with LARP6, was unable to restore the expression of α-tubulin protein near the apical side of MCCs in Xenopus DNAAF6 morphant. These results indicated that the binding of LARP6 and DNAAF6 in dynein axonemal particles regulates highly expressed α-tubulin protein near the apical side of Xenopus MCCs during ciliogenesis.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is the proposed name change for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This study aimed to investigate the association of cardiovascular disease risk with MASLD and NAFLD in patients who underwent clinically indicated coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). METHODS: This retrospective study included 2289 patients (60% men; mean age: 68 years) with no history of coronary artery disease who underwent CCTA. The steatotic liver was defined as a hepatic-to-spleen attenuation ratio of < 1.0 on CT just before CCTA. MASLD is defined as the presence of hepatic steatosis along with at least one of the five cardiometabolic risk factors. Adverse CCTA findings were defined as obstructive and/or high-risk plaques. Major adverse cardiac events (MACE) encompassed composite coronary events, including cardiovascular death, acute coronary syndrome, and late coronary revascularization. RESULTS: MASLD and NAFLD were identified in 415 (18%) and 368 (16%) patients, respectively. Adverse CCTA findings were observed in 40% and 38% of the patients with MASLD and with NAFLD, respectively. Adverse CCTA findings were significantly associated with MASLD (p = 0.007) but not NAFLD (p = 0.253). During a median follow-up of 4.4 years, 102 (4.4%) MACE were observed. MASLD was significantly associated with MACE (hazard ratio 1.82, 95% CI 1.18-2.83, p = 0.007), while its association with NAFLD was not significant (p = 0.070). By incorporating MASLD into a prediction model of MACE, including the risk score and adverse CCTA findings, global chi-squared values significantly increased from 87.0 to 94.1 (p = 0.008). CONCLUSIONS: Patients with MASLD are likely to have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease than those with NAFLD. Concurrent assessment of MASLD during CCTA improves the identification of patients at a higher risk of cardiovascular disease among those with clinically indicated CCTA.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) frequently have concomitant aortic regurgitation (AR), but the association between aortic valvular calcification (AVC) and the severity of AR remains unclear. Methods and Results: We retrospectively reviewed patients with severe AS who underwent transthoracic echocardiography and multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) within 1 month. The patients were divided into 3 groups according to the degree of concomitant AR. The association between AVC and the severity of concomitant AR was assessed in patients with severe AS. The study population consisted of 95 patients: 43 men and 52 women with a mean age of 82±7 years. Of the 95 patients with severe AS, 27 had no or trivial AR, 53 had mild AR, and 15 had moderate AR. The AVC score (AVCS) and AVC volume (AVCV) significantly increased as the severity of concomitant AR increased (P=0.014 for both), and similar findings were obtained for the AVCS and AVCV indexes (P=0.004 for both). CONCLUSIONS: The severity of AR correlated with AVCS and AVCV measured by MDCT in patients with severe AS. AVC may cause concomitant AR, leading to worsening of disease condition.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Diagnostic guidelines for isolated cardiac sarcoidosis (iCS) were first proposed in 2016, but there are few reports on the imaging and prognosis of iCS. This study aimed to evaluate the use of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) imaging in predicting iCS prognosis. METHODS AND RESULTS: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical and imaging data of 306 consecutive patients with suspected CS who underwent FDG PET/CT with a dedicated preparation protocol and included 82 patients (55 with systemic sarcoidosis including cardiac involvement [sCS], 27 with iCS) in the study. We compared the FDG PET/CT findings between the two groups. We examined the relationship between the CS type and the rate of adverse cardiac events. The iCS group had a significantly lower target-to-background ratio than the sCS group (P = 0.0010). The event-free survival rate was significantly lower in the iCS group than the sCS group (log-rank test, P < 0.0001). iCS was identified as an independent prognostic factor for adverse events (hazard ratio 3.82, P = 0.0059). CONCLUSION: iCS was an independent prognostic factor for adverse cardiac events in patients with CS. The clinical diagnosis of iCS based on FDG PET/CT and new guidelines may be important.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Although premature atrial contractions (PACs) just after catheter ablation (CA) for atrial fibrillation (AF) are common, their clinical significance is uncertain. This study aimed to evaluate whether the PAC burden after an initial CA for AF was associated with late recurrence. METHODS: We enrolled 346 patients with AF (median age, 65 years; 30% female; 57% with paroxysmal AF) who underwent an initial radiofrequency CA and a 24-h Holter monitoring the day after the procedure. PAC was defined as supraventricular complexes occurring ≥30% earlier than expected compared with a previous RR interval, and the number of PAC/24 h during post-procedural Holter monitoring was analyzed. RESULTS: AF recurred in 106 patients (31%) during a median follow-up of 19 months. These patients had significantly more PAC/24 h than those without (median [interquartile range], 891 [316-4351] beats vs. 409 [162-1,303] beats; p < 0.01). The number of PACs was independently associated with AF recurrence after adjustment for clinical parameters and left atrial (LA) enlargement. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis revealed that 1431 PAC/24 h was the optimal cut-off value for predicting AF recurrence. Adding the PAC/24 h to the prediction model with LA diameter appeared to correctly reclassify patients who were thought to be at high risk for AF recurrence into the low-risk group and vice versa. CONCLUSIONS: The number of PACs was an independent risk factor for AF recurrence. A 24-h Holter recording the day after an initial CA is a simple and beneficial tool for the risk stratification of AF recurrence.

RESUMEN

The fibrosis-4 index (FIB4), a liver fibrosis maker, has been shown to be associated with the prognosis in patients with severe isolated tricuspid regurgitation (TR). Recent study showed that the fibrosis-5 index (FIB5), which was calculated by albumin, alkaline phosphatase, aspartate transaminase, alanine aminotransferase and platelet count, had better prognostic value than FIB4 in patients with heart failure. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of FIB5 index for predicting prognosis in patients with severe isolated TR and compare the prognostic value between the FIB4 and the FIB5 in those patients. This was a dual-center, retrospective study. 113 consecutive outpatients with severe isolated TR (mean age, 65.8 years; 47.8% male) were analyzed. Major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) were defined as the composite of cardiovascular death, hospitalization for heart failure, myocardial infarction, and stroke. During a median follow-up of 3.0 years, 41 MACEs occurred. Patients with MACEs had a lower the FIB5 than patients without MACEs. The multivariate Cox analysis revealed that the FIB5 < -4.30 was significantly associated with higher incidence of MACEs after adjusted by confounding factors. Receiver-operating characteristic curve analyses showed that prognostic values did not differ between the FIB5 and the FIB4 in whole patients and in patients aged ≥ 70 years; while, in patients aged < 70 years, the FIB5 had better prognostic value than the FIB4. The FIB5 may be a useful predictor of MACEs in patients with severe isolated TR.

RESUMEN

Heart failure (HF) is becoming an increasingly common issue worldwide and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality, making its prevention an important clinical goal. The criteria evaluated using non-invasive modalities such as coronary artery calcification, the ankle-brachial index, and carotid intima-media thickness have been proven to be effective in determining the relative risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Notably, risk assessments using these modalities have been proven to be superior to the traditional risk predictors of cardiovascular disease. However, the ability to assess HF risk has not yet been well-established. In this review, we describe the clinical significance of such non-invasive modalities of atherosclerosis assessments and examine their ability to assess HF risk. The predictive value could be influenced by the left ventricular ejection fraction. Specifically, when the ejection fraction is reduced, its predictive value increases because this condition is potentially a result of coronary artery disease. In contrast, using these measures to predict HF with a preserved ejection fraction may be difficult because it is a heterogeneous condition. To overcome this issue, further research, especially on HF with a preserved ejection fraction, is required.

RESUMEN

Transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR-CA) is characterized by high 99mTc-labeled bone tracer uptake in the heart. However, the mechanism of bone tracer uptake into the heart remains controversial. Since bone tracer uptake into metastatic bone tumors is thought to be associated with increased bone metabolism, we examined 99mTc-pyrophosphate (PYP) scintigraphy findings, endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) tissue findings, and the expression of bone metabolism-related genes in the EMB tissues in patients with ATTR-CA, amyloid light-chain cardiac amyloidosis (AL-CA), and noncardiac amyloidosis (non-CA) in this study. The uptake of 99mTc-PYP in the heart was significantly higher in the ATTR-CA patients than in the AL-CA and non-CA patients. A higher percentage of ATTR-CA EMB tissue showed von Kossa-positive microparticles: ATTR-CA, 62%; AL-CA, 33%; and non-CA, 0%. Calcified microparticles were identified using transmission electron microscopy. However, none of the osteogenic marker genes, osteoclastic marker genes, or phosphate/pyrophosphate-related genes were upregulated in the EMB samples from ATTR-CA patients compared to those from AL-CA and non-CA patients. These results suggest that active calcification-promoting mechanisms are not involved in the microcalcification observed in the heart in ATTR-CA. The mechanisms explaining bone tracer uptake in the heart, which is stronger than that in the ribs, require further investigation.

RESUMEN

Fabry disease is an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder caused by defective enzyme activity of α-galactosidase A and treated with enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with recombinant α-galactosidase. ERT reduces left ventricular mass assessed by echocardiography or magnetic resonance imaging. However, electrocardiogram changes during ERT have not been fully elucidated. In the present case, ERT with agalsidase alfa for 4 years decreased QRS voltage and negative T depth along with a reduction of left ventricular mass and wall thickness and improvement of symptoms in a female patient with Fabry disease. Long-term observation of electrocardiogram changes might be useful for determining the efficacy of ERT in this case.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) attenuation on coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) is a non-invasive biomarker for pericoronary inflammation. We aimed to investigate the prognostic value of PCAT attenuation in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS: We included 333 T2DM patients (mean age, 66 years; male patients, 211; mean body mass index, 25 kg/m2) who underwent clinically indicated coronary CTA and examined their CT findings, coronary artery calcium score, pericardial fat volume, stenosis (> 50% luminal narrowing), high-risk plaque features of low-attenuation plaque and/or positive remodelling and/or spotty calcification, and PCAT attenuation. We assessed PCAT attenuation in Hounsfield units (HU) of proximal 40-mm segments of the left anterior descending artery (LAD) and right coronary artery (RCA). Cardiovascular events were defined as cardiac death, hospitalisation for acute coronary syndrome, late coronary revascularisation, and hospitalisation for heart failure. RESULTS: During a median follow-up of 4.0 years, we observed 31 cardiovascular events. LAD-PCAT attenuation was significantly higher in patients with cardiovascular events than in those without (- 68.5 ± 6.5 HU vs - 70.8 ± 6.1 HU, p = 0.045), whereas RCA-PCAT attenuation was not (p = 0.089). High LAD-PCAT attenuation (> - 70.7 HU; median value) was significantly associated with cardiovascular events in a model that included adverse CTA findings, such as significant stenosis and/or high-risk plaque (hazard ratio; 2.69, 95% confidence interval; 1.17-0.20, p = 0.020). After adding LAD-PCAT attenuation to the adverse CTA findings, the C-statistic and global chi-square values increased significantly from 0.65 to 0.70 (p = 0.037) and 10.9-15.0 (p = 0.043), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: In T2DM patients undergoing clinically indicated coronary CTA, high LAD-PCAT attenuation could significantly predict cardiovascular events. This suggests that assessing LAD-PCAT attenuation can help physicians identify high-risk T2DM patients.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the efficacy and safety of larger valve sizing beyond the commercially recommended annular range in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) with balloon-expandable transcatheter heart valve (THVs). BACKGROUND: The clinical implications of larger balloon-expandable THV implantation with underfilling are poorly evaluated. METHODS: This retrospective study included 692 consecutive patients who underwent TAVR with SAPIEN3. A total of 271 patients who underwent SAPIEN 3 implantation were analyzed based on three border zones (Zone 1: 300-345 mm2 , 23 vs. 20 mm; Zone 2: 400-430 mm2 , 26 vs. 23 mm; Zone 3: 500-546 mm2 , 29 vs. 26 mm). The primary endpoint was the effective orifice area (EOA) assessed by echocardiography at 1 year, and secondary endpoints were a 30-day mortality rate, procedural complications during TAVR, and a composite of death from any cause and heart failure requiring rehospitalization at 1 year. RESULTS: At 1-year follow-up, the EOA in the larger valve groups was greater than that in the recommended valve group in each zone (Zone 1: 1.45 ± 0.03 vs. 1.06 ± 0.06 cm2 , p < 0.001; Zone 2: 1.83 ± 0.05 vs. 1.41 ± 0.05 cm2 , p < 0.001; Zone 3: 1.93 ± 0.07 vs. 1.69 ± 0.07 cm2 , p = 0.02). No significant difference in the secondary endpoint was observed in any of the zones. CONCLUSIONS: Implantation of the out-of-range larger SAPIEN 3 THVs with underfilling was associated with greater EOA at the 1-year follow-up and feasible in the selected patients.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) index is used to evaluate liver disease patients. It can also be used to evaluate the prognosis for heart disease patients; however, its ability to determine the prognosis of severe isolated tricuspid regurgitation (TR) patients is unclear. This study aimed to clarify the association between FIB-4 index scores and the cardiovascular prognosis for severe isolated TR patients. Methods and Results: This was a dual-center, retrospective study. From 2011 to 2019, 111 consecutive outpatients with severe isolated TR (mean age, 68.6 years; 53.2% male) were evaluated. Major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) were defined as the composite of cardiovascular death, hospitalization for heart failure, myocardial infarction, and stroke. The association between FIB-4 index scores and echocardiography was also evaluated. During a median follow up of 3.0 years, 24 patients were lost to follow up and 40 MACEs occurred. Baseline FIB-4 index scores for patients with MACEs were significantly higher than those for patients without MACEs. A multivariate analysis revealed that FIB-4 index scores are significantly associated with MACEs (hazard ratio, 1.89; 95% confidence interval, 1.01-3.54; P=0.046). A linear regression analysis indicated that FIB-4 index scores were correlated with echocardiographic parameters, including the left atrial volume index and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter. CONCLUSIONS: The FIB-4 index score may be a useful predictor of MACEs for patients with severe isolated TR.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to quantitatively evaluate myocardial perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) using an original analysis tool in the compartment model for detecting regional significant coronary artery disease (CAD).Methods and Results: This study analyzed 41 patients (median age, 76 years) with suspected or known CAD who underwent both dynamic SPECT using 99 mTc-tetrofosmin and invasive coronary angiography. The quantitative analysis was performed using a single-tissue compartment model to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the myocardial flow reserve (MFR) for regional significant CAD, excluding infarcted territories. In the regional analysis, 114 vessels were assessed, of which 31 were diagnosed as significant coronary lesions (≥70% stenosis and/or fraction flow reserve ≤0.8). The MFR of regional significant CAD was significantly lower than that of non-significant CAD (1.11 [0.97-1.31] vs. 1.74 [1.30-2.27]; P<0.001). In the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, the MFR displayed an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.81. While analyzing each coronary artery territory, the diagnostic performance of the MFR value in the left anterior descending (LAD) artery territory was found to be significantly higher than that found in qualitative assessment (AUC: 0.84 vs. 0.61). CONCLUSIONS: A quantitative analysis of dynamic SPECT data facilitated detecting regional CAD. For the LAD artery, the MFR displayed a higher diagnostic performance than the qualitative assessment of conventional myocardial perfusion SPECT.

RESUMEN

Pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) attenuation on coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) has been emerged as a marker of pericoronary inflammation. We aimed to investigate the prognostic value of PCAT attenuation in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). We enrolled 232 NAFLD patients with suspected coronary artery disease and underwent coronary CTA. NAFLD was defined by abdominal CT as the ratio of hepatic attenuation to spleen attenuation less than 1.0. PCAT attenuation values were assessed by the crude analysis of mean CT attenuation value of the left anterior descending artery (LAD) and right coronary artery (RCA). As coronary CTA findings, luminal stenosis and high-risk plaque features were examined. Primary outcome was the composite of cardiovascular (CV) death, nonfatal acute coronary syndrome, and hospitalization for heart failure. During a median follow-up of 4.9 years, 17 patients had CV events. LAD-PCAT attenuation in patients with CV events was higher than that without CV events (-66.9 ± 7.0 versus -70.5 ± 6.6; p = 0.032), while RCA-PCAT attenuation was not. LAD-PCAT attenuation and high-risk plaque features were independent predictors of CV events. The addition of LAD-PCAT attenuation to high-risk plaque features increased the C-statistics and global chi-square from 0.66 to 0.75 (p = 0.042) and 6.8 to 12.7 (p = 0.015), respectively. The net reclassification achieved by adding LAD-PCAT attenuation to high-risk plaque features was 0.494 (p = 0.041). High-LAD-PCAT attenuation was an independent predictor of CV events in NAFLD patients, regardless of CTA-verified high-risk plaque features. In addition, LAD-PCAT attenuation had an incremental prognostic value over high-risk plaque features.

RESUMEN

There is a close relationship between diabetes mellitus and heart failure, and diabetes is an independent risk factor for heart failure. Diabetes and heart failure are linked by not only the complication of ischemic heart disease, but also by metabolic disorders such as glucose toxicity and lipotoxicity based on insulin resistance. Cardiac dysfunction in the absence of coronary artery disease, hypertension, and valvular disease is called diabetic cardiomyopathy. Diabetes-induced hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia lead to capillary damage, myocardial fibrosis, and myocardial hypertrophy with mitochondrial dysfunction. Lipotoxicity with extensive fat deposits or lipid droplets is observed on cardiomyocytes. Furthermore, increased oxidative stress and inflammation cause cardiac fibrosis and hypertrophy. Treatment with a sodium glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor is currently one of the most effective treatments for heart failure associated with diabetes. However, an effective treatment for lipotoxicity of the myocardium has not yet been established, and the establishment of an effective treatment is needed in the future. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Risk stratification of cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has not been established. Coronary artery calcium score (CACS) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are independently associated with cardiovascular events in T2DM patients. This study examined the incremental prognostic value of NAFLD assessed by non-enhanced computed tomography (CT) in addition to CACS and Framingham risk score (FRS) for cardiovascular events in T2DM patients. METHODS: This prospective pilot study included 529 T2DM outpatients with no history of cardiovascular disease who underwent CACS measurement because of suspected coronary artery disease. NAFLD was defined on CT images as a liver:spleen attenuation ratio < 1.0. Cardiovascular events were defined as cardiovascular death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, late coronary revascularization, nonfatal stroke, or hospitalization for heart failure. RESULTS: Among 529 patients (61% men, mean age 65 years), NAFLD was identified in 143 (27%). Forty-four cardiovascular events were documented during a median follow-up of 4.4 years. In multivariate Cox regression analysis, NAFLD, CACS, and FRS were associated with cardiovascular events (hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals 5.43, 2.82-10.44, p < 0.001; 1.56, 1.32-1.86, p < 0.001; 1.23, 1.08-1.39, p = 0.001, respectively). The global χ2 score for predicting cardiovascular events increased significantly from 27.0 to 49.7 by adding NAFLD to CACS and FRS (p < 0.001). The addition of NAFLD to a model including CACS and FRS significantly increased the C-statistic from 0.71 to 0.80 (p = 0.005). The net reclassification achieved by adding CACS and FRS was 0.551 (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: NAFLD assessed by CT, in addition to CACS and FRS, could be useful for identifying T2DM patients at higher risk of cardiovascular events.

RESUMEN

Early treatment with an oral ß-blocker is recommended in patients with a ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). In this multicenter study, we evaluated the effects of a continuous administration of landiolol, an ultrashort-acting ß-blocker, before primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on myocardial salvage and its safety in STEMI patients. A total of 47 Japanese patients with anterior or lateral STEMI undergoing a primary PCI within 12 h of symptom onset were randomized to receive intravenous landiolol (started at 3 µg/min/kg dose and continued to a total of 50 mg; n=23) or not (control; n=24). Patients with Killip class III or more were excluded. The primary outcome was the myocardial salvage index on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performed 5-7 days after the PCI. Cardiac MRI was performed in 35 patients (74%). The myocardial salvage index in the landiolol group was significantly greater than that in the control group (44.4±14.6% vs. 31.7±18.9%, respectively; p=0.04). There were no significant differences in adverse events at 24 h between the landiolol and control groups. A continuous administration of landiolol before a primary PCI may increase the degree of myocardial salvage without additional hemodynamic adverse effects within the first 24 h after STEMI.

RESUMEN

Remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) is a promising strategy for protecting against ischemic reperfusion injury. This study is a secondary analysis of a randomized study that aimed to evaluate the effect of RIPC on the early increase in serum creatinine (SCr) following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), which is associ-ated with contrast-induced acute kidney injury. Patients with stable angina undergoing elective PCI were assigned to control, RIPC, and continuous infusion of nicorandil (nicorandil) groups. The endpoint of this study was the incidence of the early increase in SCr, a predictor of contrast-induced acute kidney injury, which was defined as either a > 20% or absolute increase by 0.3 mg/dl of SCr levels after 24 h of PCI. This study included 220 patients for whom a dataset of SCr values was available. The incidence of the early increase in SCr was significantly lower in the RIPC than in the control (1.3% vs 10.8%, p = 0.03) group, but was not significantly different between the nicorandil and control groups. In multivariate analysis, RIPC remained a significant fac-tor associated with a reduction in the incidence of early increase in SCr. RIPC reduces the incidence of early increase in SCr in patients with stable angina following elective PCI.

RESUMEN

Eight spindle-shaped bacteria were isolated from clinical samples in Japan and investigated for their taxonomic position. Phylogenetic trees (based on 16S rRNA, rpoB, zinc protease, and gyrB gene sequence comparisons) showed distinct clustering of eight strains with the type strain of Fusobacterium nucleatum and its closely related species. In silico whole genome comparison analysis based on average nucleotide index based on BLAST (ANIb) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) data between our clinical isolates (PAGU 1795, PAGU 1796T, and PAGU 1797) and the type strain of the closely related species showed values of less than 92.4% and 49.5%, respectively. On the basis of its phylogenetic and genomic distinctiveness together with differential phenotypic properties and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) characteristic signal patterns, we propose Fusobacterium watanabei sp. nov., with the type strain PAGU 1796T (= GTC 21791T = CCUG 74246T).
