RESUMEN

Inkless and erasable printing (IEP) based on chromic materials holds great promise to alleviate environmental and sustainable problems. Metal-organic polymers (MOPs) are bright platforms for constructing IEP materials. However, it is still challenging to design target MOPs with excellent specific functions rationally due to the intricate component-structure-property relationships. Herein, an effective strategy was proposed for the rational design IEP-MOP materials. The stimuli-responsive viologen moiety was introduced into the construction of MOPs to give it potential chromic behaviors and two different coordination models (i. e. bilateral coordination model, M1 ; unilateral coordinated model, M2 ) based on the same viologen ligand were designed. Aided by theoretical calculations, model M1 was recommended secondarily as a more suitable system for IEP materials. Along this line, two representative viologen-ZnII MOPs 1 and 2 with models M1 and M2 were synthesized successfully. Experiments exhibit that 1 does have quicker stimuli response, stronger color contrast and longer radical lifetime compared to 2. Significantly, the obtained 1-IEP media brightly inherits the excellent chromic characteristics of 1 and the flexibility of the paper at the same time, which achieves most daily printing requirements, as well as enough resolution and durability to be used in identification by smart device.

BACKGROUND: An accurate intraoperative prediction of lymph node metastatic risk can help surgeons in choosing precise surgical procedures. We aimed to develop and validate nomograms to intraoperatively predict patterns of regional lymph node (LN) metastasis in patients with esophageal cancer. METHODS: The prediction model was developed in a training cohort consisting of 487 patients diagnosed with esophageal cancer who underwent esophagectomy with complete LN dissection from January 2016 to December 2016. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression were used to identify independent risk factors that were incorporated into a prediction model and used to construct a nomogram. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography reported LN status and was an important comparative factor of clinical usefulness in a validation cohort. Nomogram performance was assessed in terms of calibration, discrimination, and clinical usefulness. An independent validation cohort comprised 206 consecutive patients from January 2017 to December 2017. RESULTS: Univariate analysis and multivariable logistic regression revealed three independent predictors of metastatic regional LNs, three independent predictors of continuous regional LNs, and two independent predictors of skipping regional LNs. Independent predictors were used to build three individualized prediction nomograms. The models showed good calibration and discrimination, with area under the curve (AUC) values of 0.737, 0.738, and 0.707. Application of the nomogram in the validation cohort yielded good calibration and discrimination, with AUC values of 0.728, 0.668, and 0.657. Decision curve analysis demonstrated that the three nomograms were clinically useful in the validation cohort. CONCLUSION: This study presents three nomograms that incorporate clinicopathologic factors, which can be used to facilitate the intraoperative prediction of metastatic regional LN patterns in patients with esophageal cancer.

RESUMEN

The aim of this study is to examine relationships between suicide and subjective well-being. Correlation and regression analysis are conducted on 81 countries' aggregate data from United Nation agencies. Generally, suicide is not significantly related to life satisfaction; or negative affect, or positive social emotion, but significantly negatively related to positive self-emotion, or positive interpersonal emotion. In preventing suicide, subjective well-being's affective aspect might play a more important role than its cognitive aspect, positive affect might play a more important role than negative affect, and the personal aspect of positive affect might play a more important role than the social aspect.

BACKGROUND: Selection of the best lymph node for dissection is a controversial topic in clinical stage-I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Here, we sought to identify the clinicopathologic predictors of regional lymph node metastasis in patients intraoperatively diagnosed with stage-I NSCLC. METHODS: A retrospective review of 595 patients intraoperatively diagnosed as stage I non-small-cell lung cancer who underwent lobectomy with complete lymph node dissection was performed. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the independent predictors of regional lymph node metastasis. RESULTS: Univariate logistic regression and multivariable analysis revealed three independent predictors of the presence of metastatic hilar lymph nodes, five independent predictors for lobe specific mediastinal lymph nodes, two independent predictors for lobe nonspecific mediastinal lymph nodes and two independent predictors for skipping mediastinal lymph nodes. CONCLUSIONS: A complete mediastinal lymph node dissection may be considered for patients suspected of nerve invasion and albumin (> 43.1 g/L) or nerve and vascular invasions. Lobe-specific lymph node dissection should probably be performed for patients suspected of pulmonary membrane invasion, vascular invasion, CEA (> 2.21 ng/mL), and tumor (> 1.6 cm) in the right lower lobe or mixed lobes. Hilar lymph node dissection should probably be performed for patients suspected of having bronchial mucosa and cartilage invasion, vascular invasion, and CEA (> 2.21 ng/mL).

In this article, the researcher presents linear regression models that describe how five gender-equality indexes affect individuals' perceptions of well-being and happiness, controlling for their economic income and weighed by the population of the countries that contribute to the models. The logical premise of this study is that gender equality is not only favorable for women, but it is also conducive to fostering the greatest level of happiness for all people. The researcher believes that most findings confirmed this assumption and the opinion of John Stuart Mill regarding gender equality, while two exceptions are explained by social quality theory and the male breadwinner model.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the predictive factors for the spontaneous recanalization of occluded arteries in patients with acute ischemic stroke. METHODS: A total of 139 patients with consecutive acute ischemic stroke were enrolled from June 2010 to June 2013. The clinical and biochemical parameters were measured in each participant. Occlusion and recanalization of the carotid artery, the middle cerebral artery, and the vertebral and basilar arteries were identified by using computed tomographic angiography or digital subtraction angiography. RESULTS: Among the 139 patients, 23 showed spontaneous recanalization, whereas 116 did not. In the patients with spontaneous recanalization, the proportion of atrial fibrillation was significantly lower (0% versus 29.31%, P= .01), whereas the proportion of stage 3 hypertension was significantly higher (60.87% versus 32.76%, P= .01) than that of those without recanalization. Logistic regression analysis showed that the proportion of atrial fibrillation was negatively (odds ratio [OR]: .117, 95% confidence interval [CI]: .015-.918, P= .04) associated with spontaneous recanalization, whereas the proportion of stage 3 hypertension was positively (OR: 4.316, 95% CI: 1.533-12.154, P= .01) associated with it. CONCLUSIONS: Atrial fibrillation is associated with reduced spontaneous recanalization of the large and middle cerebral arteries in patients after acute ischemic stroke-induced occlusion, whereas stage 3 hypertension may contribute to the promotion of the recanalization.

GNF-351 is a candidate drug used to treat some diseases through antagonizing aryl hydrocarbon receptor. In the present study, molecular docking method was employed to understand the interaction between ketoconazole and GNF-351. The structure of cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4 was obtained from protein data bank, and 2-dimensional structure of GNF-351 with standard bond lengths and angles was drawn using chemdraw software. 30 possible binding orientations was generated and docked into the X-ray crystallographic structure of human CYP3A4. The predicted binding mode of GNF-351 into CYP3A4 appeared to adopt an orientation with interactions between their flat aromatic rings and Phe 302 and Phe 304. The comparison for the binding of GNF-351 and ketoconazole into the activity cavity indicated that they exhibited similar distance towards heme, indicating the potential interaction between GNF-351 and ketoconazole. These data remind us the necessary monitoring when future utilization between GNF-351 and ketoconazole.

Facial flat wart, caused by human papilloma virus type 3 and less often, type 10, 27, and 41, often brings many cosmetic problems to children and young adults. Considering the disturbing cosmetic problem, the treatment of facial flat wart is always frustrating and often unsuccessful, although there are many treatment modalities. Considering the possible serious side effects of 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT), we designed step-up therapy of ALA-PDT on different clinical phases of facial flat wart. As a new protocol of ALA-PDT, we found the step-up therapy of ALA-PDT could also receive excellent effects with the lower side effects. Meanwhile, the tolerance of patients to ALA-PDT could improve with subsequent treatment sessions and escalating doses of ALA-PDT.

RESUMEN

Many remedies can be applied to condyloma acuminatum. However, it is the most difficult to treat giant condyloma acuminatum because of bleeding, recurrence, intolerance of patients, etc. After careful physical examination, the present authors found the giant tumor was composed of many smaller cauliflower-like warts with long and thin pedicles. So the present authors successfully excised the giant tumor mainly by clamping and cutting the pedicles with the best effects, the least damage to the perineal and perianal areas and lower recurrence. After 2 months, the patient recovered very well and remained free of recurrence at a 2-year follow-up.

Atherosclerosis is the most common cause of cardiovascular disease globally, associated with a high incidence of clinical events. Accumulating evidence has elucidated that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) as a novel class of transcripts with critical roles in the pathophysiological processes of atherosclerosis. In this review, we summarize the recent progress of lncRNAs in the development of atherosclerosis. We mainly describe the diverse regulatory mechanisms of lncRNAs at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. This study may provide helpful insights about lncRNAs as therapeutic targets or biomarkers for atherosclerosis treatment.


A aterosclerose é a causa mais comum de doença cardiovascular em todo o mundo, ela está associada a uma alta incidência de eventos clínicos. O acúmulo de evidências elucidou que os RNAs longos não codificantes (LncRNAs) são uma nova classe de transcritos com papéis críticos nos processos fisiopatológicos da aterosclerose. Nesta revisão, resumimos o progresso recente dos LncRNAs no desenvolvimento da aterosclerose. Descrevemos principalmente os diversos mecanismos regulatórios dos LncRNAs nos níveis transcricionais e pós-transcricionais. Este estudo pode fornecer informações úteis sobre os LncRNAs como alvos terapêuticos ou biomarcadores para o tratamento da aterosclerose.

INTRODUCTION: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a clinical syndrome with several characteristics. Steroid receptor RNA activator (SRA) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), which can increase the expression of steroid receptor-dependent gene. This study aimed to explore the changes in metabolic parameters and the predictive value of the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) to SRA ratios as new indicators in subjects with and without MetS in southern China. MATERIAL AND METHODS: There were 81 participants (39 with MetS and 42 without MetS) in this cross-sectional study. The expression of lncRNAs in PBMCs was evaluated by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The risks of SRA and PBMCs to SRA ratios contributing to the presence of MetS were estimated by univariate and multivariate logistic regression models. The area under the receiver (AUC) operating characteristic curve was employed to evaluate diagnostic accuracy. RESULTS: MetS was positively correlated with cortisol, interleukin 6 (IL-6), white blood cell to SRA ratio (WTSR), lymphocyte to SRA ratio (LTSR), monocyte to SRA ratio (MTSR), and PBMC to SRA ratio (PTSR). A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to assess the value of LTSR (OR: 0.722; p < 0.001) for predicting MetS. The area under the curve yielded a cut-off value of 0.483, with a sensitivity of 76.9% and a specificity of 71.4% (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: In summary, SRA in PBMCs may be an important biomarker of stress reaction and may play a role in vulnerability to MetS. Also, the lymphocyte to SRA ratio demonstrated high accuracy in the diagnosis of MetS.
