RESUMEN

This study investigated whether Safflower Yellow for injection (SYI) would affect the anticoagulation of warfarin in rats.Wistar male rats were divided into six groups randomly and administered with SYI (9 mg/kg, intraperitoneal injection) in single-dose and steady-dose warfarin (0.2 mg/kg, oral gavage), respectively. The pharmacodynamic parameters of PT and APTT were measured by a coagulation analyser. R/S-warfarin concentration was measured by UHPLC-MS/MS, and pharmacokinetic parameters calculated using DAS 2.0 software.The single-dose study demonstrated that SYI, alone or co-administered with warfarin, could significantly increase PT, INR, and APTT values (p < 0.01). R-warfarin Cmax, AUC, and t1/2 values increased by 9.25% (p > 0.05), 25.96% (p < 0.01), and 26.17% (p < 0.01), respectively, whereas the CL/F value reduced by 22.22% (p < 0.01) in the presence of SYI. Meanwhile, S-warfarin Cmax, AUC, and t1/2 values increased by 37.41%, 32.11%, and 31.73% (all p < 0.01), respectively, whereas the CL/F value reduced by 33.33% (p < 0.01). The steady-dose study showed that PT, INR, APTT, and the concentrations of R/S-warfarin increased significantly when SYI was co-administered with warfarin (p < 0.01).SYI can enhance warfarin's anticoagulation intensity and decelerate its metabolism in rats.

This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with suicidal ideation in schizophrenia patients in China using decision tree and logistic regression models. From October 2020 to March 2022, patients with schizophrenia were chosen from Chifeng Anding Hospital and Daqing Third Hospital in Heilongjiang Province. A total of 300 patients with schizophrenia who met the inclusion criteria were investigated by questionnaire. The questionnaire covered general data, suicidal ideation, childhood trauma, social support, depressive symptoms and psychological resilience. Logistic regression analysis revealed that childhood trauma and depressive symptoms were risk factors for suicidal ideation in schizophrenia (OR = 2.330, 95%CI: 1.177 ~ 4.614; OR = 10.619, 95%CI: 5.199 ~ 21.688), while psychological resilience was a protective factor for suicidal ideation in schizophrenia (OR = 0.173, 95%CI: 0.073 ~ 0.409). The results of the decision tree model analysis demonstrated that depressive symptoms, psychological resilience and childhood trauma were influential factors for suicidal ideation in patients with schizophrenia (p < 0.05). The area under the ROC for the logistic regression model and the decision tree model were 0.868 (95% CI: 0.821 ~ 0.916) and 0.863 (95% CI: 0.814 ~ 0.912) respectively, indicating excellent accuracy of the models. Meanwhile, the logistic regression model had a sensitivity of 0.834 and a specificity of 0.743 when the Youden index was at its maximum. The decision tree model had a sensitivity of 0.768 and a specificity of 0.8. Decision trees in combination with logistic regression models are of high value in the study of factors influencing suicidal ideation in schizophrenia patients.

BACKGROUND: Patients suffering from schizophrenia are at a higher risk of relapse. The perception of the risk of relapse in patients is critical for relapse prevention. In the field of psychiatry, the study of risk perception of relapse has been neglected. METHODS: We carried out a qualitative study using a descriptive phenomenological approach. Data were collected at two psychiatric hospitals in China. In total, 22 patients with schizophrenia were recruited through purposive sampling. Face to face semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted. Interview recordings were transcribed by the research team, and transcripts were analysed by two independent coders with Colaizzi's descriptive analysis framework. The consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research checklist were used for reporting. RESULTS: The data of first-episode patients yielded three themes: (i) lack of knowledge about disease recognition and medical treatment; (ii) overoptimistic estimation of the risk of relapse; (iii) perceived importance of treatment. For first-relapse patients : (i) initial awareness of relapse warning signs; (ii) lack of systematic and accurate assessment of disease information; (iii) the perception that drug withdrawal is related to relapse. Patients with multiple relapses: (i) susceptibility to relapse: confusion and powerlessness; (ii) the severity of relapse: suicidal thoughts and behavior; (iii) effects of perceived benefits and barriers of medication behaviour. CONCLUSIONS: In schizophrenic patients with first-episode, first-relapse, and multiple relapses, there were dynamic changes in the perception of disease relapse risk and medication behaviour. Medical workers must improve risk awareness education. They should provide patients with scientific, accurate, and timely communication channels, and dynamically assess and manage the risk of relapse in various patients.

Exposure to airborne particulate matter (PM2.5) is associated with cardiovascular diseases. In order to investigate the molecular mechanisms of air pollution-induced CVDs toxicity, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were exposed to PM2.5 collected from January, 2016 winter in Beijing, China. We performed RNA sequencing to elucidate key molecular mechanism of PM 2.5-mediated toxicity in HUVECs. A total of 1753 genes, 864 up-regulated and 889 down-regulated, were observed to be differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Among these, genes involved in metabolic response, oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and vascular dysfunction were significantly differentially expressed (log2 FC > 4). The results were validated by quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) and Western blot for CYP1B1, HMOX1, IL8, and GJA4. Pathway analysis revealed that DEGs were involved in the biological processes related to metabolism, inflammation, and host defense against environmental insults. This research is providing a further understanding of the mechanisms underlying PM2.5-induced cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).

Shuanghuanglian Injection (SHLI), one of the most popular herbal prescription in China, has been commonly used to treat pneumonia, tonsillitis, and other respiratory diseases caused by bacterium and virus. This study is to investigate the effects of SHLI on the activities of Cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A2, 2C11, 2D1 and 3A1/2 in rats. Sixteen rats were randomly divided into two groups (SHLI-treated and blank control). They were administered SHLI or physiological saline for consecutive seven days. On day eight, 16 animals were administrated cocktail drugs as probe substrates of the four CYP in vivo. In addition, other four probe drugs were added, respectively, into incubation systems of rat liver microsomes (RLM) to assess the effects of SHLI on the four CYP isoforms in vitro. SHLI exhibited an inductive effect on CYP2C11 in vivo by decreasing Cmax, t1/2 and AUC0-∞ of tolbutamide, while the main pharmacokinetic parameters of caffeine, metoprolol and dapsone have no significant changes. In vitro study, SHLI showed no significant effects on the activities of CYP1A2, 2D1 and 3A1/2, but increasing the metabolism of tolbutamide in RLM. SHLI induced the activities of CYP2C11, but had no significant effects on the activities of CYP1A2, CYP2D1 and CYP3A1/2 in rats.

Exposure to ambient fine particulate matter (<2.5 µm; PM2.5 ) increases the risk of the physiopathology of vascular diseases. However, the underlying mechanism, particularly the mitochondrial damage mechanism, of PM2.5 -induced vascular dysfunction is still unclear. In this study, we examined PM2.5 -induced alterations of mitochondrial morphology, and further demonstrated the adverse effects on mitochondrial dynamics and function in vascular endothelial cells. Consequently, cultured EA.hy926 cells were subjected to PM2.5 collected from Beijing. A Cell Counting Assay Kit-8 demonstrated that PM2.5 exposure decreased the proliferation of EA.hy926 cells in a dose-dependent manner. The exposure caused an increment of abnormal mitochondria coupled with the decrease of fusion protein MFN2 and the increase of fission protein FIS1, suggesting that PM2.5 inhibits mitochondrial fusion. Further analyses revealed PM2.5 decreased the mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) and increased the mitochondrial permeability transport pore opening, eventually resulting in impairments in adenosine triphosphate synthesis. Therefore, it is clearly shown that PM2.5 triggered endothelial toxicity through mitochondria as the target, including the damage of mitochondrial homeostasis.

1. Safflower injection (SI) is extracted from Chinese herbal medicine safflower that comprises many active components. Warfarin is a common anticoagulant and has exhibited drug interactions with several herbal products. This study aimed to investigate the effects of SI on pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of warfarin in rats. 2. Wistar rats were randomly divided into blank control group, SI group, warfarin control group and SI + warfarin group, respectively. In SI and SI + warfarin groups, rats were injected with SI (1.6 mL/kg/d, i.p.) for 14 days. Warfarin (0.2 mg/kg) was given orally on the eighth day. Saline was given as control. The blood samples were collected at various time points. Prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) were measured. UPLC-MS/MS was used to determine the plasma concentrations of S(R)-warfarin, and the pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated. 3. PT, APTT in SI and SI + warfarin rats increased significantly compared with corresponding control rats. The pharmacokinetic parameters including Cmax, t1/2, AUC0-t and AUC0-∞ of S-warfarin and R-warfarin in SI + warfarin rats were higher than those in warfarin control rats. 4. These findings suggest that SI significantly increases the anticoagulant effect of warfarin by affecting its pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic parameters.

The purpose of this study was to examine the direct toxicity of PM2.5 collected from Beijing on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). A Cell Counting Kit 8 (CCK8) assay demonstrated that PM2.5 exposure decreased the proliferation of HUVECs in a dose-dependent manner. We also found that PM2.5 exposure induced autophagy in HUVECs, as evidenced by: (1) an increased number of double-membrane vesicles; (2) enhanced conversion and punctuation of the microtubule-associated protein light chain 3 (LC3); and (3) decreased levels of the selective autophagy substrate p62 in a time-dependent manner. Furthermore, promoting autophagy in PM2.5-exposed HUVECs with rapamycin increased the cell survival rate, whereas inhibiting autophagy via 3-methyladenine significantly decreased cell survival. These results demonstrate that PM2.5 exposure can induce cytotoxicity and autophagy in HUVECs and that autophagy play a protective role against PM2.5-induced cytotoxicity. The findings of the present study imply a direct toxic effect of PM2.5 on HUVECs and provide novel insight into the mechanism of cardiovascular diseases caused by PM2.5 exposure.

1. Phillyrin and forsythoside A are two important active ingredients in Forsythia suspensa. However, the effects of phillyrin and forsythoside A on the activities of cytochrome P450 (CYP450) remain unclear. 2. This study aimed to investigate the effects of phillyrin and forsythoside A on the activities of CYP1A2, CYP2C11, CYP2D1 and CYP3A1/2 by cocktail probe drugs in rats both in vivo and in vitro. 3. Many pharmacokinetic parameters of caffeine and metoprolol in phillyrin pretreatment group, caffeine and tolbutamide in forsythoside A pretreatment group were affected significantly. In rat liver microsomal incubation system, the concentrations of acetaminophen and dextrophan in the phillyrin pretreatment group are higher than blank control group by 207.69% and 125.00%, however, the concentrations of 4-hydroxytolbutamide and 6ß-hydroxytestosterone were not significantly altered. The concentrations of acetaminophen and 4-hydroxytolbutamide in the forsythoside A pretreatment group are higher than blank control group by 223.07% and 154.16%, whereas the concentrations of dextrophan and 6ß-hydroxytestosterone were not significantly altered. 4. These results indicated that Phillyrin had potential inductive effects on rat CYP1A2 and CYP2D1 activities, without affecting CYP2C11 and CYP3A1/2 activities. Moreover, forsythoside A had inductive effects on the activities of CYP1A2 and CYP2C11, without affecting CYP2D1 and CYP3A1/2 activities.

Antibiotics as a type of environmental contaminants are typically exposed to chemical mixtures over long periods of time, so chronic combined toxicity is the best way to perform an environmental risk assessment. In this paper, the individual and combined toxicity of sulfonamides (SAs), sulfonamide potentiators (SAPs), and doxycycline hyclate (DH) were tested on gram-positive (Bacillus subtilis, B. subtilis) and gram-negative (Escherichia coli, E. coli) bacteria. The individual toxicity of antibiotics on the two bacteria could be ranked in the same order: SAs < SAPs < DH. But E. coli was more sensitive than B. subtilis to the antibiotics, which was likely due to both the different abilities of antibiotics to pass through the cell membrane and the varied capacities to bind target proteins between the two bacteria. In addition, the binary mixtures of SAs-SAPs, SAs-DH, and SAs-SAs exhibited synergistic, antagonistic, and additive effects on both of the bacteria but in different magnitudes as represented by the toxicity units (TU). And we found the different TU values were result from the different effective concentrations of antibiotic mixtures based on the approach of molecular docking and quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSARs). Moreover, from the results of risk assessment, it should be noted that the mixture of SAs and other antibiotics may pose a potential environmental risk assessment due to their combined action with the current environmentally realistic concentrations.

BACKGROUND: Herb-drug interactions may result in increased adverse drug reactions or diminished drug efficacy, especially for drugs with a narrow therapeutic index such as warfarin. The current study investigates the effects of sodium ferulate for injection (SFI) on anticoagulation of warfarin from aspects of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics in rats and predicts the risk of the combination use. METHODS: Rats were randomly divided into different groups and administered single- or multiple-dose of warfarin (0.2 mg/kg) with or without SFI of low dose (8.93 mg/kg) or high dose (26.79 mg/kg). Prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) were detected by a blood coagulation analyzer, and international normalized ratio (INR) values were calculated. UPLC-MS/MS was conducted to measure concentrations of warfarin enantiomers and pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated by DAS2.0 software. RESULTS: The single-dose study demonstrated that SFI alone had no effect on coagulation indices, but significantly decreased PT and INR values of warfarin when the two drugs were co-administered (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01), while APTT values unaffected (P > 0.05). Cmax and AUC of R/S-warfarin decreased but CL increased significantly in presence of SFI (P < 0.01). The multiple-dose study showed that PT, APTT, INR, and concentrations of R/S-warfarin decreased significantly when SFI was co-administered with warfarin (P < 0.01). Warfarin plasma protein binding rate was not significantly changed by SFI (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The present study implied that SFI could accelerate warfarin metabolism and weaken its anticoagulation intensity in rats.

BACKGROUND: Returning to work (RTW) has always been regarded as one of the important indicators to evaluate the therapeutic effect of patients with schizophrenia. The existing studies on RTW in patients with schizophrenia are mostly focused on intervention measures, and the qualitative research on RTW is very limited. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the experience of the RTW after treatment in patients with schizophrenia. METHOD: A longitudinal qualitative study was conducted involving 24 patients with schizophrenia in China. The interviews were held at three time-points during their RTW process, (1) when patients had improved and were close to discharge, (2) within 1 month post-discharge, and (3) 6 months post-discharge. The interview recordings were transcribed by the research team, and transcripts were independently analyzed by two independent coders using reflexive thematic analysis. RESULTS: A total of 24 patients with schizophrenia participated in 72 personal interviews. The thematic framework based on the experience of patients with schizophrenia reveals a three-phases of the process of RTW: improved, being at a loss, and job crisis. The study identified one theme of the first phase: the expectation and optimism. Two themes in the second phase: (1) psychological distress of upcoming work; (2) expectation of assistance pre-work. And four themes in the third phase: (1) tremendous pressure of RTW; (2) lack of medical and social support; (3) social status and interpersonal relationships change; and (4) high level of financial pressure. CONCLUSION: The experience of RTW is a dynamic process with great challenges in each phase, patients with schizophrenia have been deeply affected by what they have experienced. There is an urgent need to ensure that existing community and social support is integrated into daily care to support patients with schizophrenia to RTW successful. The findings of this study also suggest relevant departments and employers should be aware of the barriers to RTW for patients with schizophrenia, and take certain measures to change the current situation.

The aim of this study was to assess the influence of the Panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) on the activities of the drug-metabolizing enzymes cytochrome P450 (CYP450) 1A2, 2 C9, 2D6 and 3A4 in rats. The activities of CYP1A2, 2 C9, 2D6 and 3A4 were measured using specific probe drugs. After pretreatment for 1 week with PNS or physiological saline (control group), probe drugs caffeine (10 mg/kg; CYP1A2 activity), tolbutamide (15 mg/kg; CYP2C9 activity), metoprolol (20 mg/kg; CYP2D6 activity) and dapsone (10 mg/kg; CYP3A4 activity) were administered to rats by intraperitoneal injection. The blood was then collected at different times for ultra performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) analysis. The data showed that PNS exhibited an induction effect on CYP1A2 by decreasing caffeine C(max) (36.3%, p < 0.01) and AUC(0-∞) (22.77%, p < 0.05) and increasing CL/F (27.03%, p < 0.05) compared with those of the control group. Western blot analysis was used to detect the effect of PNS on the protein level of CYP1A2, and the results showed that PNS could upregulate the protein expression of CYP1A2. However, no significant changes in CYP2C9, 2D6 or 3A4 activities were observed. In conclusion, the results indicate that PNS could induce CYP1A2, which may affect the disposition of medicines primarily dependent on the CYP1A2 pathway. Our work may be the basis of related herb-drug interactions in the clinic.

The single light oil regenerating agent has certain limitations on the performance recovery of aged asphalt. In this study, tung oil, dioctyl phthalate (DOP), C9 petroleum resin, and organic montmorillonite (OMMT) were used to prepare the composite regenerating agent, and its optimal mix proportion was determined by the orthogonal experimental design. The rheological properties and anti-aging performance of reclaimed asphalt were studied by the dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) and bending beam rheometer (BBR); and the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were adopted to explore its microstructure, morphology, and mechanism of action. The results show that with the addition of tung oil composite regenerating agent, the rheological properties of aged asphalt can be effectively recovered, even better than that of base asphalt. By using the complex modulus aging index (CMAI) and phase angle aging index (PMAI) it is found that the anti-aging performance of reclaimed asphalt is better than that of base asphalt. With the optimal content of the tung oil composite regenerating agent, the contents of characteristic functional groups and macromolecular asphaltenes in the aged asphalt can be reduced, indicating that the composite regenerating agent is beneficial to the dispersion and dissolution of polar substances in the aged asphalt. After aging, a large number of wrinkles appear on the surface of the asphalt. However, the addition of the tung oil composite regenerating agent can make the asphalt surface smooth, which indicates that the tung oil composite regenerating agent can restore the microstructure and morphology of aged asphalt to a certain extent.

Herba Erigerontis injection (HEI) is an aqueous solution derived from whole plants of Erigeron breviscapus, which may be co-administered with warfarin to treat cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disorders. This research was conducted to make sure whether HEI would affect anticoagulation of warfarin to guarantee reasonable medication. The pharmacodynamic study was designed to measure prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) values, and international normalized ratio (INR) values were calculated. For pharmacokinetic study, ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometer (UPLC-MS/MS) technology was applied to measure plasma concentrations of warfarin enantiomers. The influence of HEI on plasma protein binding rate of warfarin was assessed by ultrafiltration. Pharmacodynamic study demonstrated that both HEI alone and co-administered with warfarin could increase PT and INR values significantly (P < .01), whereas the APTT values were unaffected (P > .05). Pharmacokinetic study manifested that Cmax , AUC and t1/2 prolonged significantly (P < .01) for R/S-warfarin in presence of HEI. Low (3.6 mL/kg), medium (7.2 mL/kg) and high (10.8 mL/kg) doses of HEI could decrease plasma protein binding rate of warfarin significantly (P < .01). The results mean that HEI can potentiate the anticoagulant response of warfarin through both pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics.

The cause of phytoplankton blooms has been extensively discussed and largely attributed to favorable external conditions such as nitrogen/phosphorus resources, pH and temperature. Here from the standpoint of hormesis response, we propose that phytoplankton blooms are initiated by stimulatory effects of low concentrations of herbicides as environmental contaminants spread over estuaries and lakes. The experimental results revealed general stimulations by herbicides on Microcystis aeruginosa and Selenastrum capricornutum, with the maximum stimulation in the 30-60% range, depending on the agent and experiment. In parallel with enhancing stimulation, the ratio of HP (high-potential) form to LP (low-potential) form of cytochrome b559 (RHL) was observed decreasing, while intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) were observed increasing. We propose that the ROS originated from the thermodynamic transformation of cytochrome b559, enhancing the stimulatory response. Furthermore, the results also proved that thermodynamic states of cytochrome b559 could be modulated by nitric oxide, thus affecting cellular equilibrium of oxidative stress (OS) and correspondingly causing the inhibitory effect of higher concentrations of herbicides on phytoplankton. This suggests that hormesis substantially derives from equilibrium shifting of OS. Moreover, it is reasonable to infer that phytoplankton blooms would be motivated by herbicides or other environmental pollutants. This study provides a new thought into global phytoplankton blooms from a contaminant perspective.

Bacteria in the environment face the threat of antibiotics. However, most studies investigating the toxicity and toxicity mechanisms of antibiotics have been conducted on microorganisms in aerobic conditions, while studies examining the anaerobic toxicity and toxicity mechanisms of antibiotics are still limited. In this study, we determined the aerobic and anaerobic toxicities of sulfonamides (SAs) on Escherichia coli. Next, a comparison of the aerobic and anaerobic toxicities indicated that the SAs could be divided into three groups: Group I: log(1/EC50-anaerobic)>log(1/EC50-aerobic) (EC50-anaerobic/EC50-aerobic, the median effective concentration under anaerobic/aerobic conditions), Group II: log(1/EC50-anaerobic)≈log(1/EC50-aerobic), and Group III: log(1/EC50-anaerobic)

Organisms in the environment are exposed to mixtures of multiple contaminants, leading to serious environmental harm. These mixtures pose an ecological risk and have attracted an increasing amount of attention; however there has been little in-depth research the toxicity of mixtures, such as antibiotics. To determine how different mixtures of antibiotics affect organisms, the individual and mixture toxicity of sulfonamides and several antibiotics were determined using Escherichia coli as a target organism in our study. The results show that additive effects occur between sulfonamides and quinolones or with a portion of ß-lactams, synergistic effects appear between sulfonamides and their potentiators or cefotaxime sodium, and antagonistic effects arise between sulfonamides and tetracyclines or penicillin V potassium salt. In addition, the toxicity mechanism of binary mixtures is further discussed and the results reveal that the joint effect differences depend not only the target proteins of individual chemicals but also on their effective combined concentration based on the approach of Quantitative Structure Activity Relationships (QSARs) and molecular docking. This study introduces the concept of the "effective concentration" to provide insight into understanding the mechanism of binary mixtures, which will be beneficial for evaluating the ecological risk of antibiotics.

Sulfa antibiotics (SAs) and quorum-sensing inhibitor (QSI) may pose potential ecological risks because mixed using of them has been proposed to inhibit bacteria from generating antibiotic resistance. This study investigated the time-dependent hormesis of single and binary mixtures of QSI and SAs of Vibrio fischeri (V. fischeri) for 0-24 h. Although the low-dose SAs stimulated the expression of LuxR protein, the high-dose SAs could inhibit bacteria growth by competitively binding to dihydropteroate synthase. Moreover, AinR protein was bound to Benzofuran-3(2H)-one (B3O) with low concentration, thus the N-octanoyl homoserine lactone signal molecules (C8) has chance to bind to LuxR protein to promote light emission. The hormesis effect induced by the mixtures could be deduced that SAs promoted the expression of LuxR protein and B3O increases the chance of C8 binding to LuxR. Our findings facilitate new insight into the mechanistic study of hormesis and ecological risks of the chemical mixtures.

The toxicity of metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) has aroused great concern over the past few years. However, there still remains the question whether the toxicity of the metal oxide NPs originates from the released ions or the NPs themselves. In this study, the metal ion release of CuO, Fe2O3, ZnO, Co3O4, Cr2O3, and NiO NPs in aqueous media was investigated, and their contributions to the metal oxide NPs' inhibition on the bioluminescence of Photobacterium phosphoreum were studied. It was found that the ions release of the metal oxide NPs in aqueous media was complex, depending on both the dissolution and adsorption processes of the metal oxide NPs. The relationships between the metal oxide NPs' antibacterial effects and their released metal ions could be divided into three categories: (1) the ZnO NPs' antibacterial effect was due solely to the released Zn(2+); (2) the CuO NPs' antibacterial effect originated from both the released Cu(2+),and the CuO particles; and (3) the antibacterial effects of Fe2O3, Co3O4, Cr2O3, and NiO NPs were caused by the NPs themselves. Our findings suggest that the ions release and their contributions to the NPs' toxicity should be considered in the toxicity evaluations of the metal oxide NPs.
