RESUMEN

A sequence of Schiff base Cobalt (II) Mobile Composite Matter 41 heterojunction (SBCo(II)-MCM 41) was prepared by post-synthetic protocols. Various characterization techniques were used to characterize the above samples and MCM 41: Morphology, functional groups, optical properties, crystalline nature, pore diameter, and binding energy by scanning electron microscope (SEM), High-resolution transition electron microscopy (HR-TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Ultra Violet-Visible Spectroscopy (UV), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). After the encapsulation of SBCo(II) on the MCM 41, the intensity in the 100-plane in powder x-ray diffraction (XRD) decreased significantly; moreover, the light absorption behavior in UV analysis was improved. The change in the surface area and the decrease in the pore diameter of the sample were also demonstrated by the BET study. The XPS results confirmed the presence of Si, O, C, N, and Co in the SBCo(II)-MCM 41 complex. The photocatalytic performance of MCM 41 and SBCo(II)-MCM 41 materials tested by the degradation of methylene blue dye (MBD) shows that MCM 41 immobilization with SBCo(II)complex is rapidly degraded under natural sunlight irradiation. The optimized 10 mg SBCo(II)-MCM 41 catalyst concentrations showed effective enhancement with the highest efficiency of 98% achieved within 2 h compared to the other two SBCo(II)-MCM 41 concentrations. Moreover, the catalytic efficiency of SBCo(II)-MCM 41 showed a biomimetic reaction without using an oxidant, which exposed it as an effective catalyst for amine to imine conversion; it was useful in the medical field for enzymes with structural assembly.

Urease is a potent metalloenzyme with diverse applications. This paper describes the scale up and purification of an extracellular urease from Arthrobacter creatinolyticus MTCC 5604. The urease production was scaled-up in 3.7 L and 20 L fermentor. A maximum activity of 27 and 27.8 U/mL and a productivity of 0.90 and 0.99 U/mL/h were obtained at 30 h and 28 h in 3.7 and 20 L fermentor, respectively. Urease was purified to homogeneity with 49.85-fold purification by gel filtration and anion exchange chromatography with a yield of 36% and a specific activity of 1044.37 U/mg protein. The enzyme showed three protein bands with molecular mass of 72.6, 11.2 and 6.1 kDa on SDS-PAGE and ~ 270 kDa on native PAGE. The cytotoxic effect of urease was assessed in vitro using cancer cell lines (A549 and MG-63) and normal cell line (HEK 293). Urease showed its inhibitory effects on cancer cell lines through the generation of toxic ammonia, which in turn increased the pH of the surrounding medium. This increase in extracellular pH, enhanced the cytotoxic effect of weak base chemotherapeutic drugs, doxorubicin (50 µM) and vinblastine (100 µM) in the presence of urease (5 U/mL) and urea (0-4 mM) significantly.

In this paper, a fast and simplest one-pot tactic was used to synthesis fluorescent oxygen doped carbon dots from Tween-20 (TTO-CDs) is reported. The TTO-CDs were microwavically synthesized by using Tween-20 as both the carbon precursor and the oxygen dopant as well. The surface morphology, crystalline and/or amorphous nature, composition and optical assets of synthesized TTO-CDs were studied by means of existing techniques. From the results, it was confirmed that the as-synthesized TTO-CDs are amorphous in nature, monodispersed, sphere-shaped and the typical particle size range is 5 ± 1.5 nm. The synthesized TTO-CDs emits strong blue fluorescence at 390 nm under excitation of 335 nm. Most interestingly, the excitation dependent emission property of synthesized TTO-CDs was exposed from fluorescence results. The synthesized TTO-CDs have quantum yield of about 14% against quinine sulfate as reference standard. The biotoxicity of synthesized TTO-CDs on HeLa cells was assessed through cytotoxicity assay. These results implied that the fluorescent TTO-CDs showed less biotoxicity, and further which was efficaciously applied as a multicolor staining and bioimaging probe for the confocal imaging of HeLa cells.

Herein, we report the synthesis of α-MnO2 nanoflower-incorporated zinc-terephthalate MOFs (MnO2@Zn-MOFs) via the conventional solution phase synthesis technique as an electrode material for supercapacitor applications. The material was characterized by powder-X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy techniques. The prepared electrode material exhibited a specific capacitance of 880.58 F g-1 at 5 A g-1, which is higher than the pure Zn-BDC (610.83 F g-1) and pure α-MnO2 (541.69 F g-1). Also, it showed a 94% capacitance retention of its initial value after 10,000 cycles at 10 A g-1. The improved performance is attributed to the increased number of reactive sites and improved redox activity due to MnO2 inclusion. Moreover, an asymmetric supercapacitor assembled using MnO2@Zn-MOF as the anode and carbon black as the cathode delivered a specific capacitance of 160 F g-1 at 3 A g-1 with a high energy density of 40.68 W h kg-1 at a power density of 20.24 kW kg-1 with an operating potential of 0-1.35 V. The ASC also exhibited a good cycle stability of 90% of its initial capacitance.

Herein, pure α-Fe2O3, binary α-Fe2O3/NiO, and ternary α-Fe2O3/NiO/rGO composites were prepared by a hydrothermal method. The properties of the prepared materials were studied by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, TEM, XPS, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller techniques. The clusters of smaller α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles (∼30 nm) along with conducting NiO was freely covered by the rGO layer sheet, which offer a higher electrode-electrolyte interface for improved electrochemical performance. The ternary composite has shown a higher specific capacitance of 747 F g-1@ a current density of 1 A g-1 in a 6 M KOH solution, when compared with that of α-Fe2O3/rGO (610 F g-1@1 A g-1) and α-Fe2O3 (440 F g-1@1 A g-1) and the nanocomposite. Moreover, the ternary α-Fe2O3/NiO/rGO composite exhibited a 98% rate capability @ 10 A g-1. The exceptional electrochemical performance of ternary composites has been recognized as a result of their well-designed unique architecture, which provides a large surface area and synergistic effects among all three constituents. The asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device was assembled using the ternary α-Fe2O3/NiO/rGO composite as the anode electrode (positive) material and activated carbon as the cathode (negative) material. The ASC device has an energy density of 35.38 W h kg-1 at a power density of 558.6 W kg-1 and retains a 94.52% capacitance after 5000 cycles at a 1 A g-1 current density.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of the study was to identify and isolate stem cells from healthy and inflamed dental pulp and characterize their differentiation potential into multiple lineages. STUDY DESIGN: Study was conducted in dental pulp tissues obtained from the children in the age range of 5-14 years. Tissue samples were collected from teeth indicated for pulp therapy and extractions for orthodontic purpose. Samples were processed in the laboratory including cell culture, isolation and differentiation into multiple lineages. The results for the analysis of various cell surface markers used for dental pulp were compared with bone marrow which is considered as a gold standard. RESULTS: There was no statistically significant difference found in the expression of various surface markers between inflamed dental pulp and bone marrow. Healthy pulp from the primary teeth was not sufficient to use as a source for harvesting stem cells moreover the healthy tissue obtained from permanent teeth failed to show any results at all. CONCLUSION: Inflamed pulp discarded during pulp therapy procedures is a potential source for harvesting adult stem cells.

OBJECTIVE: The aim was to evaluate the anti-diabetic and anti-hyperlipidemic effects of hydroalcoholic extract of leaves of Ocimum tenuiflorum (Lamiaceae) and prediction of biological activities of its phytoconstituents using in vivo anti-diabetic model and in silico analysis respectively. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The leaves of O. tenuiflorum were extracted with 60% ethanol, and the extract was used for further pharmacological screening. The acute toxicity of the extract was evaluated as per the guidelines set by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, revised draft guidelines 423. The oral anti-diabetic activity of the hydroalcoholic extract of O. tenuiflorum (125, 250 and 500 mg/kg) was studied against streptozotocin (STZ) (50 mg/kg; i.p.) + nicotinamide (120 mg/kg; i.p.) induced diabetes mellitus. The animals were treated with the investigational plant extract and standard drug (glibenclamide) for 21 consecutive days and the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of O. tenuiflorum on blood glucose levels was measured at regular intervals. At the end of the study, blood samples were collected from all the animals for biochemical estimation, then the animals were sacrificed and the liver and kidney were collected for organ weight analysis. Prediction for pharmacological and toxicological properties of phytoconstituents of O. tenuiflorum was carried out using online web tools such as online pass prediction and lazar toxicity prediction. RESULTS: The hydroalcoholic extract of O. tenuiflorum showed significant anti-diabetic and anti-hyperlipidemic activity at 250 and 500 mg/kg, and this effect was comparable with that of glibenclamide. Predicted biological activities of phytoconstituents of O. tenuiflorum showed presence of various pharmacological actions, which includes anti-diabetic and anti-hyperlipidemic activities. Prediction of toxicological properties of phytoconstituents of O. tenuiflorum did not show any major toxic effects. CONCLUSION: The hydroalcoholic extract of O. tenuiflorum showed significant anti-diabetic and anti-hyperlipidemic activity against STZ + nicotinamide induced diabetes mellitus in rats. Further studies are required to confirm the anti-diabetic and anti-hyperlipidemic activities of individual phytoconstituents of O. tenuiflorum.

Glycosmis pentaphylla, Tridax procumbens, and Mangifera indica are well-known plants available throughout India and they are commonly used for the treatment of various diseases including diabetes mellitus. The antidiabetic activity of the individual plant parts is well known, but the synergistic or combined effects are unclear. The concept of polyherbalism has been highlighted in Sharangdhar Samhita, an Ayurvedic literature dating back to 1300 AD. Polyherbal formulations enhance the therapeutic action and reduce the concentrations of single herbs, thereby reducing adverse events. The aim of the present study is to formulate a polyherbal formulation and evaluate its antidiabetic potential in animals. The polyherbal formulation was formulated using the ethanol extracts of the stem bark of G. pentaphylla, whole plant of T. procumbens, and leaves of M. indica. The polyherbal formulation contains the ethanol extracts of G. pentaphylla, T. procumbens, and M. indica in the ratio of 2:2:1. The quality of the finished product was evaluated as per the World Health Organization's guidelines for the quality control of herbal materials. The quality testing parameters of the polyherbal formulation were within the limits. Fingerprint analysis of the polyherbal formulation showed effective separation at 366 nm, and it revealed that the active compound present in the polyherbal formulation and the active compounds present in all the three extracts were the same. The acute toxicity studies of the polyherbal formulation did not show any toxic symptoms in doses up to 2000 mg/kg over 14 days. The oral antidiabetic activity of the polyherbal formulation (250 and 500 mg/kg) was screened against streptozotocin (50 mg/kg; i.p.) + nicotinamide (120 mg/kg; i.p.) induced diabetes mellitus in rats. The investigational drug was administered for 21 consecutive days, and the effect of the polyherbal formulation on blood glucose levels was studied at regular intervals. At the end of the study, the blood samples were collected from all the animals for biochemical estimation, and the animals were sacrificed and the liver and pancreatic tissues were collected for histopathologic analysis. Polyherbal formulation showed significant antidiabetic activity at 250 and 500 mg/kg, respectively, and this effect was comparable with that of glibenclamide. The antidiabetic activity of polyherbal formulation is supported by biochemical and histopathologic analysis.

Dental pulp are known to contains stem cells or dentinogenic progenitors that are responsible for dentin repair. Dental pulp Stem cells from Human Exfoliated Deciduous teeth (SHED) represent a population of postnatal stem cells capable of extensive proliferation and multipotential or multilineage differentiations. This potential for tissue regeneration has become the current basis for dental pulp stem cell banking. Here, we have attempted to develop a protocol for harvesting stem cells from patients with High Caries tooth, which are most often electively discarded. We have characterized the stem cells with mesenchymal stem cell markers and have compared their potential to grow in culture, doubling times, and differentiate into different lineages, with normal bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). We observed that the MSCs from dental pulp grew faster, with lower doubling time, and had equal efficiency in differentiating to various lineages, when subjected to standard directed differentiation protocols. This paper establishes that discarded High Carries Tooth can be a good source for regenerative medicine and also could be a potential source for MSCs and dental pulp MSC banking.
