Cossyphodini (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Pimeliinae) in South Africa, Namibia and adjacent regions: New species and records, key to genera, and Old World species catalogue.

Cossyphodini Wasmann, 1899 (Tenebrionidae: Pimeliinae) from South Africa, Namibia and adjacent regions are revised, and newly collected material is presented. All species are figured, including as much as possible type specimens of African taxa for comparison. New species are described: Cossyphodes andreaei sp. n. and Cossyphodes caecus sp. n. (both South Africa), Cossyphodes naukluftensis sp. n. (Namibia). New synonyms include: Cossyphodes freudei Basilewsky, 1957 (Cossyphodes uhligi Ferrer, 2004 syn. n.), Cossyphodes wasmanni Reichensperger, 1915 (Cossyphodes brincki Andreae, 1961 syn. n., Cossyphodes reichenspergeri Andreae, 1961 syn. n.). Lectotypes are designated for Cossyphodes arnoldi Brauns, 1925 and Cossyphodes wasmanni Reichensperger, 1915. The aedeagus is of lesser value for species separation. Keys to the four genera in South Africa and adjacent regions, as well as species of Cossyphodes in South Africa are presented. A catalogue of all Cossyphodini from the Old World including full references is added.

New species and records of Laena Dejean (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Lagriinae) from Vietnam, southeastern China, and Korea.

New species and new records of the genus Laena Dejean, 1821 from Vietnam, southeastern China (Hainan, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Jiangxi and Zhejiang provinces) and Korea are presented. The following new taxa are described: L. brunkei sp. n. (Vietnam, Guizhou), L. faillei sp. n. (Vietnam), L. honba sp. n. (Vietnam), L. tramtonica sp. n. (Vietnam), L. hainanica sp. n. (Hainan), L. hajeki sp. n. (Guangdong), L. lianhua sp. n. (Jiangxi), L. logshengica sp. n. (Guangxi, Fujian), L. yuanbaoica sp. n. (Guangxi). Laena rotundicollis Marseul, 1876 is recorded from Korea for the first time.

Four new species and new records of Micropeneta Pic, 1921 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Gnathidiini) from the Oriental and Papuan Regions, including a checklist and an identification key.

The genus Micropeneta Pic, 1921 (Tenebrionidae: Gnathidiini) was known so far by seven species in the Oriental Region. Newly collected material is presented herein including four species new to science: M. alabaca sp. n., M. kinabaluca sp. n., both from Borneo, M. laotica sp. n. from Laos, and M. papuana sp. n. from West Papua. The material shows that the genus is also distributed in Indochina and on New Guinea. The species of Micropeneta are characterised by the male head with a pair of distinct glabrous cephalic horns or shorter processes; some species possess additionally the anterior margin of the male pronotum with a pair of teeth or flat swellings, or the anterior part of pronotum with a broad impression. A checklist for all species and an identification key (suitable for males only) is added.

Two new species of the genus Dichillus Jacquelin du Val, 1861 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Stenosini) from Thailand.

Two species of Dichillus Jacquelin du Val, 1861 (Tenebrionidae, subfamily Pimeliinae, tribe Stenosini) new to science from the lowlands of central Thailand are described: Dichillus grimmi sp. n. and Dichillus siamicus sp. n. An identification key for the four known species of Dichillus from Thailand is provided. A checklist of Stenosini from Thailand is added.

Two new genera and six new species of Stenosini (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Pimeliinae) from Myanmar (Burma), collected by Ren Fouqu.

New taxa of the tenebrionid tribe Stenosini Schaum, 1859 (subfamily Pimeliinae Latreille, 1802) from central Myanmar (Burma) in the region around Mandalay are described: Bamarosis gen. nov. fouquei sp. nov. (subtribe Dichillina), Shanosis gen. nov. renei sp. nov. (subtribe Dichillina), Gebieniella ellenae sp. nov., Gebieniella matthiasi sp. nov., Stenosis helenae sp. nov., Stenosis mandalayca sp. nov. The proposed subgenera in some genera of Stenosini, based on certain species, but not on complete revisions of the corresponding genera remain doubtful and are not considered herein. A checklist of all taxa of Stenosini known from Burma is added.

New taxonomic and faunistic data to species of the genus Laena Dejean from Turkey (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae, Lagriinae), with descriptions of two new species.

New taxonomic and faunistic data to species of the genus Laena Dejean, 1821 (subfamily Lagriinae) from Turkey are given. Some of the species occur also in adjacent Greece, Bulgaria, as well as in Cyprus, Near East and the Caucasus. Very probably not yet all synonyms of the Turkish species might be recognised herein. New species: L. assingi sp. nov. from southern Turkey, L. bozdagica sp. nov. from the Izmir region. New synonyms: Laena ferruginea Küster, 1846 (L. clivinoides Baudi di Selve, 1876 n. syn., L. constricta Iablokoff-Khnzoryan, 1957 n. syn., L. liliputana Kaszab, 1968 n. syn.). New record for Turkey: L. quadricollis Weise, 1878; new record for Greece (Chios, Lesbos, Samos): L. kraatzi Weise, 1878; new record for Cyprus: L. glabriuscula Sahlberg, 1909. Erroneous records for Turkey: L. apfelbecki Schuster, 1915, L. hopffgarteni Weise, 1878, L. kaufmanni Reitter, 1881.

New taxonomic and faunistic data on Asian species of the genus Indenicmosoma Ardoin (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Lagriinae), with description of a new species from Thailand.

The tenebrionid genus Indenicmosoma Ardoin, 1964 (type species indochinensis Kaszab, 1940), subfamily Lagriinae, is distributed in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Newly collected specimens from different Palaearctic and Oriental Asian regions are presented, among them also one species new to science from Thailand (Indenicmosoma paicum sp. nov.). New synonym: Indenicmosoma nathani Ardoin, 1964 (Indenicmosoma ardoini Kaszab, 1970 syn. nov.). All treated eight Asian species are figured, and a species key is compiled.

The species of the genus Diaclina Jacquelin du Val (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Alphitobiini) from Sub-Saharan Africa.

The species of Diaclina Jacquelin du Val, 1861 (Tenebrioninae: Alphitobiini) from the Sub-Saharan Africa are revised. Following new species are proposed: Diaclina ashantica sp. nov. (Ghana), D. grandis sp. nov. (Congo), D. muehlei sp. nov. (Rwanda). Diaclina ovalis Gebien, 1921 is revalidated. Following new synonyms are introduced: Diaclina gracilis (Fåhraeus, 1870) = Diaclina depressa Ardoin, 1963 syn. nov., Diaclina elliptica Ardoin, 1969 syn. nov.; Diaclina ovalis Gebien, 1921 = Diaclina decellei Ardoin, 1969 syn. nov. Lectotypes are designated for Diaclina brevicollis Gebien, 1921, D. cameruna Gebien, 1921, D. minuta Gebien, 1921, and D. ovalis Gebien, 1921. Habitus photographs and figures of aedeagi of all examined species are provided, and an identification key for the African species is added.

The taxonomic identity of some enigmatic darkling beetle genera: Archinamaqua Schawaller, 2012 and Menederopsis Koch, 1954 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) from Namaqualand, South Africa.

Based on the newly established synonymy of the type species (i.e., Menederopsis constrictus Koch, 1954 = Archinamaqua lyleae Schawaller, 2012 syn. nov.) the genus-group name Archinamaqua Schawaller, 2012 (Pimeliinae: Tentyriini) is interpreted as a junior synonym of Menederopsis Koch, 1954 (Tenebrioninae: Eurynotina). This newly interpreted taxon has a restricted distributional area on sand dunes in Namaqualand, western South Africa.

Two new species of the genus Laena Dejean (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Lagriinae) from Hong Kong.

Two new species of the genus Laena Dejean, 1821 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Lagriinae) are described from Hong Kong: Laena hongkongica sp. n. and Laena walkeri sp. n. These constitute the first record of the genus from Hong Kong, as a species previously described from nearby area Laena ovipennis Schuster, 1926, in fact originated from Zhejiang province nearby Shanghai. Both species from Hong Kong possess a wide variation in body length, which is quite unusual for this genus.

Microcenoscelis n. gen. (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Ulomini) from tropical Africa, with description of a blind species from Zimbabwe.

Microcenoscelis n. gen. (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Ulomini) caeca n. sp. is described from Zimbabwe, a small and completely blind species. A second known species, however with completely developed eyes, and originally described as Uloma minuscula Ardoin, 1969, was also placed in the new genus. Microcenoscelis n. gen. seems to be mostly related to the genera Cenoscelis Wollaston, 1867, and Cneocnemis Gebien, 1914.

Fauna Europaea: Coleoptera 2 (excl. series Elateriformia, Scarabaeiformia, Staphyliniformia and superfamily Curculionoidea).

Fauna Europaea provides a public web-service with an index of scientific names (including synonyms) of all living European land and freshwater animals, their geographical distribution at country level (up to the Urals, excluding the Caucasus region), and some additional information. The Fauna Europaea project covers about 230,000 taxonomic names, including 130,000 accepted species and 14,000 accepted subspecies, which is much more than the originally projected number of 100,000 species. This represents a huge effort by more than 400 contributing specialists throughout Europe and is a unique (standard) reference suitable for many users in science, government, industry, nature conservation and education. Coleoptera represent a huge assemblage of holometabolous insects, including as a whole more than 200 recognized families and some 400,000 described species worldwide. Basic information is summarized on their biology, ecology, economic relevance, and estimated number of undescribed species worldwide. Little less than 30,000 species are listed from Europe. The Coleoptera 2 section of the Fauna Europaea database (Archostemata, Myxophaga, Adephaga and Polyphaga excl. the series Elateriformia, Scarabaeiformia, Staphyliniformia and the superfamily Curculionoidea) encompasses 80 families (according to the previously accepted family-level systematic framework) and approximately 13,000 species. Tabulations included a complete list of the families dealt with, the number of species in each, the names of all involved specialists, and, when possible, an estimate of the gaps in terms of total number of species at an European level. A list of some recent useful references is appended. Most families included in the Coleoptera 2 Section have been updated in the most recent release of the Fauna Europaea index, or are ready to be updated as soon as the FaEu data management environment completes its migration from Zoological Museum Amsterdam to Berlin Museum für Naturkunde.

The genus Alphitobius Stephens (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae, Alphitobiini) in Africa and adjacent islands.

All species of the genus Alphitobius Stephens, 1829 (Alphitobiini Reitter, 1917, subfamily Tenebrioninae Latreille, 1802) from Africa and adjacent islands are revised. New species: Alphitobius capitaneus sp. n. from Kenya. New synonyms: Cryptops ulomoides Solier, 1851, syn. n. of Alphitobius diaperinus (Panzer, 1796); Alphitobius rufus Ardoin, 1976, syn. n. of Alphitobius hobohmi Koch, 1953); Peltoides (Micropeltoides) crypticoides Pic, 1916, syn. n. of Peltoides (Micropeltoides) opacus (Gerstaecker, 1871), comb. n. Homonym: Alphitobius ulomoides Koch, 1953 = Alphitobius arnoldi nom. n. New combinations from Alphitobius: Ulomoides basilewskyi (Ardoin, 1969), comb. n.; Peltoides (Micropeltoides) opacus (Gerstaecker, 1871), comb. n. Figures of all examined species are added and a species key is compiled.

New data on Apteroloma (Coleoptera: Agyrtidae) of central Asia and the Himalayas with a new synonymy.

The distribution of Apteroloma anglorossicum (Semenov, 1890), A. harmandi (Portevin, 1903) and A. sillemi Jeannel, 1935 in central Asia and along the Himalayas is summarized, and the collecting circumstances and ecology of all three species from Gilgit District, Pakistan are described in detail. Revised diagnoses of all three species are provided, habitus and important morphological structures are illustrated, and available types have been examined. Apteroloma jankovskii Semenov and Znojko in Semenov, 1932 is confirmed as junior subjective synonym of A. anglorossicum. Apteroloma heinzi Schawaller, 1991 is newly treated as a junior subjective synonym of A. harmandi.

Revision of the genera Hovadelium Ardoin and Mimolaena Ardoin (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae, Laenini) from Madagascar, with remarks on tribal assignment.

The genera Hovadelium Ardoin, 1961 and Mimolaena Ardoin, 1961, endemic in Madagascar, are revised and assigned to the tribe Laenini Seidlitz, 1896 (subfamily Lagriinae Latreille, 1825). New species: Hovadelium ardoini sp. n., Hovadelium bremeri sp. n. and Mimolaena janaki sp. n. An identification key is compiled for all taxa. Distribution of Hovadelium (5 species) and Mimolaena (3 species) is mapped. The congeners might be indicator species for the highly endangered mature forests in Madagascar.

Two new species and new records of the genus Spinolyprops Pic, 1917 from the Oriental Region (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae, Lupropini) (*).

Two new species of the genus Spinolyprops Pic, 1917 (Tenebrionidae, subfamily Lagriinae Latreille, 1825) are described from Thailand and China (Spinolyprops cribricollissp. n., Spinolyprops thailandicussp. n.). The species characters within the genus are discussed, photographs of all seven Oriental species are added, a species key for the Oriental species is compiled, and a map with the distributional patterns is provided.
