Biologically Active Substances from Marine Hydrobionts with Antibacterial Activity in Composition of New Wound Dressings.

The data on the experimental study of the efficacy of the gel wound dressings based on chitosan and calcium alginate containing bioactive substances from marine hydrobionts with complex therapeutic action (sulfated polysaccharides from brown algae, hydrolyzed bivalves, peptides from nerve ganglia of cephalopods) are described. The model of thermal burns complicated by Staphylococcus aureus infection was used. Planimetric and bacteriological investigations revealed pronounced wound healing and antibacterial effects of the gel coating. The gel containing sulfated polysaccharides from brown algae showed the highest wound healing activity.

Reaction of dermal structures to subcutaneous injection of gold nanoparticles to CBA mice.

The reactions of dermal structures to subcutaneous injections of gold nanoparticles were studied in CBA mice. Routes of the nanoparticles migration after injection and the mechanisms of their effects on the adjacent tissues were studied. Injected nanoparticles were phagocytosed by macrophages; some of them migrated to lymphoid follicles of the lymph node, while others migrated into blood vessels, where the particles were released from the macrophage cytoplasm into circulating blood. The endothelium was destroyed as a result of the toxic activity of macrophages loaded with nanoparticles. Two mechanisms of angiogenesis inhibition and death of blood vessels in tissues after injection of nanoparticles were distinguished. One mechanism consisted in deactivation of macrophages producing vascular endothelium growth factor inducing the formation of endothelium in the growing blood vessels, but not in direct inhibition of this factor. The other mechanism was realized through direct death of the endothelium in migration of macrophages through the vascular wall.

Effects of multiwalled carbon nanotubes received orally during 6 days on the gastrointestinal tract.

The effects of multiwalled carbon nanotubes on epitheliocytes of different compartments of the gastrointestinal tract and urothelium of different compartments of the renal nephron were studied in CBA mice. The nanotubes affected mouse gastrointestinal mucosa and renal urothelium. The cell reaction in the macula densa of the renal distal tubules and the immune system reaction to oral nanotubes were detected. A possible effect of nanotubes administered orally on the renal filtration function was hypothesized.

Proliferative response of lymphocyte to pokeweed mitogen depends on the concentration of endogenous cortisol in the early post-traumatic period in patients with penetrating eye injury.

The intensity of lymphocyte proliferation in response to pokeweed mitogen depends on cortisol level in the peripheral blood in the early post-traumatic period of penetrating eye injury. Lymphocyte proliferation in 72- and 96-h cultures from patients with high levels of endogenous hormone was suppressed. In 120-h cultures, the intensity of proliferation remains unchanged. Lymphocyte blast transformation was increased in 120-h cultures from patients with normal cortisol concentration and remained unchanged in case of low cortisol level.

Excitation and conversion of electromagnetic waves in pulsar magnetospheres.

We demonstrate that nonlinear decay of obliquely propagating Langmuir waves into Langmuir and Alfvén waves (L --> L' + A) is possible in a one-dimensional, highly relativistic, streaming pair plasma. Such a plasma may be in the magnetospheres of pulsars. It is shown that the characteristic frequency of generated Alfvén waves is much less than the frequency of Langmuir waves and may be consistent with the observational data on the radio emission of pulsars.

[Application of cultured milk products with lavinariia additives to decrease iodine deficit for surgical patients].

The efficiency of iodine containing cultured milk products (yoghurts) has been studied in complex of therapy measures in patients with pus processes in soft tissues. Introduction of yoghurts with Laminariajaponica additives to dietary intake for surgical patients with iodine deficiency favors its severity degree decreasing, protective forces of organism increasing and rapid wound healing introduction of yoghurts.

Positronium collapse and the maximum magnetic field in pure QED.

A maximum value for the magnetic field is determined, which provides the full compensation of the positronium rest mass by the binding energy in the maximum symmetry state and disappearance of the energy gap separating the electron-positron system from the vacuum. The compensation becomes possible owing to the falling to the center phenomenon. The maximum magnetic field may be related to the vacuum and describe its structure.
