RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) has been reported to occur after cataract surgery. It is not clearly established whether cataract surgery increases the risk of NAION over baseline. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: Medline, PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Central registers were systematically searched for eligible studies reporting on postcataract surgery NAION (psNAION) within 1 year. All peer-reviewed publications with events n ≥ 10 were included. Pooled incidence and odds/hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were extracted and calculated using random effect models for early and delayed psNAION. Time to event data were pooled for temporal analysis of psNAION events within the first year. This systematic review was registered (PROSPERO CRD42021274383). RESULTS: Nine articles met the selection criteria with five studies suitable for meta-analysis. A total of 320 psNAION cases, 1,307 spontaneous NAION (sNAION) cases, 1,587,691 cataract surgeries, and 1,538,897 noncataract surgery controls were included. Pooling of 63,823 cataract surgeries and 161,643 controls showed a hazard ratio of 4.6 (95% CI 2.7-7.8) of psNAION within 1 year of surgery. Pooled unadjusted incidence of psNAION within 2 months was 99.92 (95% CI 38.64-161.19) per 100,000/year, psNAION within 1 year was 32.36 (95% CI 9.38-55.34) per 100,000/year, and sNAION was 8.87 (95% CI 2.12-15.62) per 100,000/year. psNAION cases were older by a mean of 7.6 years; otherwise, pooled odds ratios for baseline risk factors in psNAION vs. sNAION cases were not statistically significant. psNAION within the first year peaked within 72 hrs and at 6 weeks after the surgery with 73% of cases occurring within 6 months. CONCLUSION: The risk of NAION after cataract surgery is four times greater within the first year and usually occurs within 6 months. However, the absolute risk remains low at 1 in 1,000-3,100 surgeries and is unlikely to warrant extra mention for consenting.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Despite widespread recommendations and use of intravenous corticosteroids (IVCS) for the treatment of acute flares of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, limited evidence exists comparing outcomes of the two most common regimens, intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) and intravenous hydrocortisone (IVHC). IVHC has stronger mineralocorticoid effects compared with IVMP and may cause higher rates of hypokalemia. We aimed to determine differences in clinical outcomes including requirement for inpatient rescue therapy, bowel resection, and rates of hypokalemia. METHODS: We conducted a multicenter cohort study of all adult patients admitted with an acute flare of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) to the three tertiary hospitals in Auckland, New Zealand, where the protocol at each institution is either IVMP 60 mg daily or IVHC 100 mg four times daily. All patients requiring IVCS between 20 June 2016 and 30 June 2018 were included. The IVCS protocol was then changed at one hospital, where further data were collected for a further 12 months from 30 January 2019 until 30 December 2019. RESULTS: There were 359 patients, including 129 (35.9%) patients receiving IVMP and 230 (64.1%) patients receiving IVHC. IVMP treatment was associated with a greater requirement for rescue therapy than IVHC (36.4% vs 19.6%, P = 0.001; odds ratio [OR] = 2.79; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.64-4.75, P < 0.001), but also reduced rates of hypokalemia (55.8% vs 67.0%, P = 0.04; OR = 0.49; 95% CI, 0.30-0.81, P = 0.005). There was no difference between treatment groups for the median length of admission (5 days, interquartile range [IQR] 3-8), median duration of IVCS treatment (3 days, IQR 2-5), or bowel resection within 30 days of admission (12.4% vs 11.7%; OR = 1.04). CONCLUSION: For the treatment of an acute flare of IBD, treatment with IVMP results in significantly more requirement for inpatient rescue biologic or cyclosporin. In addition, it causes statistically significant less hypokalemia than IVHC, although in practice differences are negligible.

RESUMEN

Background and Purpose- In ischemic stroke, body temperature is associated with functional outcome. However, the relationship between temperature and outcome may differ in the intraischemic and postischemic phases of stroke. We aimed to determine whether body temperature before or after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for large vessel occlusion stroke is associated with clinical outcomes. Methods- Consecutive EVT patients were identified from a prospective registry. Temperature measurements within 24 hours of admission were stratified into pre-EVT (preprocedural and intraprocedural) and post-EVT measurements, which served as surrogates for the intraischemic and postischemic phases of large vessel occlusion stroke, respectively. The primary outcome was functional independence, defined as a modified Rankin Scale score of 0, 1, or 2 at 3 months. Secondary outcomes included the ordinal shift of modified Rankin Scale scores at 3 months, symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage, and mortality at 3 months. Results- Four hundred thirty-two participants were included (59% men, mean±SD age 65.6±15.7 years). Multivariable logistic regression demonstrated that higher median pre-EVT temperature (per 1°C increase) was an independent predictor of reduced functional independence (odds ratio [OR], 0.66 [95% CI, 0.46-0.94]; P=0.02), poorer modified Rankin Scale scores (common OR, 1.42 [95% CI, 1.08-1.85]; P=0.01), and increased mortality (OR, 1.65 [95% CI, 1.02-2.69]; P=0.04). Peak post-EVT temperature (per 1°C increase) was a significant predictor of elevated modified Rankin Scale scores (common OR, 1.39 [95% CI, 1.03-1.90]; P=0.03) and higher mortality (OR, 1.66 [95% CI, 1.04-2.67]; P=0.03). Conclusions- In patients with large vessel occlusion stroke treated with EVT, higher body temperatures during both the intraischemic and postischemic phases were associated with poorer clinical outcomes. Future research investigating the maintenance of normothermia or therapeutic hypothermia in patients needing to be transferred from primary to EVT-capable stroke centers could be considered.

RESUMEN

Background and Purpose- Intracranial carotid artery calcification is associated with worse outcome in anterior circulation stroke patients who undergo endovascular thrombectomy. We investigated the association between vertebrobasilar artery calcification (VBAC) and outcome in patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy for posterior circulation large vessel occlusion. Methods- Consecutive patients treated for posterior circulation large vessel occlusion from a prospective single-center registry were studied. VBAC was manually segmented on computed tomography brain scans. The associations between VBAC and VBAC volume, functional independence (90-day modified Rankin Scale score of 0-2), and 90-day mortality were assessed using propensity score-adjusted logistic regression. Results- Sixty-four posterior circulation large vessel occlusion patients were included. Twenty-five (39.1%) patients had VBAC, and of these, the median (interquartile range) VBAC volume was 19.8 (6.65-23.4) mm3. VBAC was associated with reduced functional independence (OR, 0.19 [95% CI, 0.04-0.78]; P=0.03) and increased mortality (OR, 9.44 [95% CI, 2.43-36.62]; P=0.005). Larger VBAC volumes were a significant predictor of reduced functional independence and increased mortality. Conclusions- VBAC is an independent predictor of outcome in patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy for posterior circulation large vessel occlusion. Considering the presence of VBAC might improve prognostication and shared treatment decision-making between patients, families, and physicians.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: In New Zealand, Maori and Pacific people have higher age-adjusted stroke incidence rates, younger age at first stroke, and higher mortality at 12 months than other ethnic groups. We aimed to determine if access to acute stroke reperfusion therapy with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) or endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is equitable among ethnic groups. METHODS: Data were obtained from the Northern Region component of the New Zealand Stroke Registry over the 21 months between January 1, 2018 and September 30, 2019. Data recorded included demographic details, self-identified ethnicity, treatment times, and clinical outcomes. National hospital discharge coding of patients admitted with ischemic stroke and stroke unspecified was used to determine the proportion of patients treated by ethnic group. RESULTS: There were 537 patients normally resident in the Northern Region who received reperfusion therapy: 281 received IVT alone, 123 received EVT after bridging IVT, and 133 received EVT alone. Of the 537 patients treated with IVT or EVT, there were 81 (15.1%) Maori, 78 (14.5%) Pacific, 57 (10.6%) Asian, and 341 (63.5%) NZ European/other ethnicity patients. There were no ethnic differences in treatment process times. When compared with NZ European/others, Maori and Pacific people were younger, and Maori had worse neurological impairment at admission. A higher proportion of Maori were treated with EVT with a trend to higher proportion treated with IVT. Day 90 modified Rankin Scale (mRS) for EVT-treated patients was similar apart from Asian patients who had worse outcome when compared with NZ European/others (mRS 3 vs. 2; p = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS: This study has shown equitable access to acute stroke reperfusion therapies and largely similar outcomes in different ethnic groups in northern New Zealand.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: There is increasing clinical and research interest in the potential contribution of Demodex to ocular surface disease. The aim of this systematic review was to summarise and synthesise current clinical evidence relating to the aetiology, diagnosis and treatment of ocular Demodex. RECENT FINDINGS: A comprehensive literature search was performed in OVID Medline, OVID Embase, and clinical trial registries, for studies published between 1990 and August 2019, examining Demodex on the ocular surface. The review included primary clinical research studies and systematic reviews of primary clinical research studies, where Demodex was considered in the context of the ocular surface and/or adnexa. Studies were categorised using the National Health and Medical Research Council evidence hierarchy. Risk of bias assessment was performed using validated tools for studies categorised as providing Level I or II evidence. A total of 87 studies were eligible for inclusion, including two systematic reviews. Most studies (60%) were observational, describing the prevalence of ocular Demodex in different clinical populations. There was a high degree of variability in the epidemiological data derived from cross-sectional aetiology studies. There was mostly consistent evidence to support an association between ocular Demodex and chronic blepharitis. Seven diagnostic test-accuracy studies were identified, which considered a range of techniques, including slit lamp examination for cylindrical eyelash collarettes and/or eyelash manipulation techniques, light microscopic evaluation of epilated eyelashes and in vivo confocal microscopy. There is currently no accepted gold-standard diagnostic method for ocular Demodex. For intervention studies, there was one systematic review, 11 published randomised trials, six trial registry entries, and nine case series. Despite a number of recent trials, the appropriate treatment regimen for ocular Demodex (including the optimal criteria and timing of an intervention) is not clearly established. CONCLUSIONS: This comprehensive narrative synthesis has captured the landscape of clinical evidence relating to the prevalence, aetiology, diagnosis and treatment of ocular Demodex. There remain opportunities to enhance understanding of its role in ocular surface disease, best diagnostic approaches and optimal treatment protocols.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is present in 20% to 35% of acute ischemic stroke patients and may increase the risk of poor functional outcome or death. We aimed to determine whether CKD was associated with worse outcome in stroke patients treated with endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, AND MEASUREMENTS: Consecutive EVT patients were identified from a prospective registry and dichotomized into patients with and without CKD, defined as an eGFR of less than 60 mL/min/1.73m2. The primary outcome was 3-month mortality following EVT. Secondary outcomes included symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (defined by the Safe Implementation of Thrombolysis in Stroke-Monitoring Study), early neurological recovery (defined as change in National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale [NIHSS] score of ≥8 at 24 hours or an NIHSS of 0-1 at 24 hours) and functional independence (defined as a modified Rankin Scale [mRS] score of 0, 1 or 2) at 3 months. RESULTS: 378 EVT patients (223 men; mean ± SD age 65 ± 15 years) were included. The median (IQR) admission eGFR was 71 (58-89) mL/min/1.73 m² and 117 (31%) patients had CKD. Multiple logistic regression adjusted for potential confounders demonstrated that CKD was a significant predictor of lower rates of functional independence (OR = .54, 95% CI, .31 to .90, P = .02), higher mRS scores (common OR = 1.78, 95% CI, 1.14 to 2.81, P = .01), and increased mortality (OR = 2.19, 95% CI, 1.16 to 4.12, P = .01). There was no association between CKD and early neurological recovery (OR = .92, 95% CI, .55 to 1.49, P = .71) or symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (OR = 1.18, 95% CI, .38 to 3.69, P = .77). CONCLUSIONS: CKD was a significant predictor of worse functional outcome and mortality in stroke patients treated with EVT. The presence of CKD should not preclude patients from proceeding to EVT, but may help with prognostication and improve shared decision-making between patients, families and physicians.

RESUMEN

Background and Purpose- In ischemic stroke, baseline renal impairment is present in 20 to 35% of patients and may increase the risk of contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI). We aimed to determine whether endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) patients with baseline renal impairment are at increased risk of CA-AKI. Methods- Consecutive EVT patients were identified from a prospective database. Patients were stratified by estimated glomerular filtration rate. The primary outcome was CA-AKI assessed at 24 to 72 hours following EVT, defined as an increase in serum creatinine of ≥26.5 µmol/L or 1.5× baseline serum creatinine. Secondary outcomes included requirement for renal replacement therapy and 3-month mortality. Results- Three hundred thirty-three EVT patients (201 men; mean±SD age 63.9±15.8 years) were included. The mean±SD iohexol contrast volume used in diagnostic and EVT imaging was 236±77 mL per patient. CA-AKI occurred in 11 (3.3%) patients; none required renal replacement therapy, but 4 of 11 (36.4%) had died by 3 months. Propensity score-adjusted logistic regression showed that estimated glomerular filtration rate <30 mL/(min·1.73 m2) was a significant predictor of CA-AKI (odds ratio, 19.93; 95% CI, 2.33-170.74; P=0.006). The dose of contrast was not associated with an increased risk of CA-AKI (P>0.05). Multiple logistic regression adjusted for potential confounders demonstrated that CA-AKI was independently associated with increased mortality (odds ratio, 4.68; 95% CI, 1.05-20.97; P=0.04). Conclusions- There is utility in obtaining baseline creatinine levels to identify patients at risk of CA-AKI and to establish a diagnosis of CA-AKI in patients with subsequent creatinine rises. However, contrast-requiring diagnostic imaging and EVT should not be delayed by waiting for the results of baseline renal function.

RESUMEN

Background and Purpose- Methods of identifying ischemic stroke patients with a greater probability of poor outcome following endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) might improve shared treatment decision-making between patients, families, and physicians. We used an objective, automated method to measure cerebral atrophy and investigated whether this was associated with outcome in EVT patients. Methods- Consecutive EVT patients from a single-center registry were studied. CT brain scans were segmented with a combination of a validated U-Net and Hounsfield unit thresholding. Intracranial cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) volume was used as a marker of cerebral atrophy and calculated as a proportion of total intracranial volume. The primary outcome was functional independence, defined as a 3-month modified Rankin Scale score of 0 to 2. Results- Three-hundred sixty EVT patients were included. Functional independence was achieved in 204 (56.7%) patients. The mean±SD CSF volume was 9.0±4.7% of total intracranial volume. Multivariable regression demonstrated that increasing CSF volume was associated with reduced functional independence (OR=0.65 per 5% increase in CSF volume; 95% CI, 0.48-0.89; P=0.007) and higher 3-month modified Rankin Scale scores (common OR, 1.59 per 5% increase in CSF volume; 95% CI, 1.05-2.41; P=0.03). Conclusions- Cerebral atrophy determined by automated measurement of intracranial CSF volume is associated with functional outcome in patients undergoing EVT. If validated in future studies, this simple, objective, and automated imaging marker could potentially be incorporated into decision-support tools to improve shared treatment decision-making.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis (LRINEC) scoring system was developed to aid the diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis and guide management [1]. AIM: To validate the LRINEC score and identify clinical predictors to develop a refined diagnostic scoring tool for the diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis at Middlemore Hospital, New Zealand. METHODS: This was a retrospective case-control study of patients admitted to Middlemore Hospital with necrotizing fasciitis and severe cellulitis between January 2000 and December 2010. The LRINEC scores at admission were evaluated for performance in discriminating between cases of necrotizing fasciitis and severe cellulitis. Cases and controls were randomized into developmental and validation cohorts. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis of demographic, clinical, and laboratory variables for the diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis was performed. The identified independent predictors were used to develop a new diagnostic scoring tool. RESULTS: The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (C-statistic) of a LRINEC score ≥6 for the diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis was 0.679. The newly developed SIARI score [Site other than the lower limb, Immunosuppression, Age < 60 years, Renal impairment (creatinine > 141), and Inflammatory markers (CRP ≥ 150, WCC > 25] demonstrated superior diagnostic ability compared with the LRINEC score in both the developmental (C-statistic: 0.832 vs. 0.691, p < 0.001) and validation cohorts (C-statistic: 0.847 vs. 0.667, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The LRINEC score exhibited only modest discriminative performance in this cohort, while the SIARI score is a simplified tool that demonstrates superior diagnostic ability for detecting necrotizing fasciitis. Future external validation studies are required to confirm the trends observed in this study.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Media coverage of medical research influences the views and behaviours of clinicians, scientists and members of the public. We examined how frequently commenters in news stories about medical research have relevant expertise and have academic and financial conflicts, how often such conflicts are reported and whether there are associations between the conflicts and the disposition of the comments toward the findings of the source research. METHODS: We analyzed 104 independent comments in news stories on original clinical research published in high-impact medical journals from Jan. 1 to Mar. 31, 2013, and 21 related journal editorials. Main outcomes were prevalence of relevant academic and clinical expertise, prevalence and reporting of academic and financial conflicts of interest, and disposition of comments toward study findings. RESULTS: Only 1 in 6 news stories included independent comments. Overall, 25% of commenters and 0% of editorialists had neither relevant academic nor clinical expertise (p = 0.007). Among the 104 comments, an academic conflict of interest was present for 56 (54%), of which 25 (45%) were reported in the news stories. A financial conflict of interest was present for 33 (32%) of the comments, of which 11 (33%) were reported. When commenters' conflicts of interest were congruent with the findings of the source research, 97% and 93% of comments associated with academic and financial conflicts of interest, respectively, were favourably disposed toward the research. These values were 16% and 17%, respectively, when the conflicts of interest were not congruent with the research findings. INTERPRETATION: Independent commenters in new stories about medical research may lack relevant academic or clinical expertise. Academic or financial conflicts of interest were frequently present among independent commenters but infrequently reported, and were often associated with the disposition of comments about the source research.

RESUMEN

SIGNIFICANCE: Dry eye is a frequently reported problem among computer users. Low relative humidity environments are recognized to exacerbate signs and symptoms of dry eye, yet are common in offices of computer operators. Desktop USB-powered humidifiers are available commercially, but their efficacy for dry eye relief has not been established. PURPOSE: This study aims to evaluate the potential for a desktop USB-powered humidifier to improve tear-film parameters, ocular surface characteristics, and subjective comfort of computer users. METHODS: Forty-four computer users were enrolled in a prospective, masked, randomized crossover study. On separate days, participants were randomized to 1 hour of continuous computer use, with and without exposure to a desktop humidifier. Lipid-layer grade, noninvasive tear-film breakup time, and tear meniscus height were measured before and after computer use. Following the 1-hour period, participants reported whether ocular comfort was greater, equal, or lesser than that at baseline. RESULTS: The desktop humidifier effected a relative difference in humidity between the two environments of +5.4 ± 5.0% (P < .001). Participants demonstrated no significant differences in lipid-layer grade and tear meniscus height between the two environments (all P > .05). However, a relative increase in the median noninvasive tear-film breakup time of +4.0 seconds was observed in the humidified environment (P < .001), which was associated with a higher proportion of subjects reporting greater comfort relative to baseline (36% vs. 5%, P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: Even with a modest increase in relative humidity locally, the desktop humidifier shows potential to improve tear-film stability and subjective comfort during computer use.Trial registration no: ACTRN12617000326392.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To compare the effects on ocular temperature, lipid layer grade, tear film stability, and tear meniscus height after a single application of two commercially available warm compresses in mild-to-moderate dry eye and to report participant treatment preference. METHODS: Forty-one subjects with mild-to-moderate dry eye symptoms were enrolled in a randomized, paired-eye, investigator-masked trial. Heat was applied simultaneously to one eye (randomized) with a portable eye mask (EyeGiene) and to the contralateral eye with a microwave-heated flaxseed eye bag (MGDRx Eye Bag). Outer and inner eyelid temperatures, tear film lipid layer grade (LLG), and noninvasive tear film breakup time (NIBUT) were measured at baseline and immediately after 10 minutes of device application. RESULTS: Outer and inner eyelid temperatures, LLG, and NIBUT did not differ before treatment between eyes assigned to eye mask and eye bag therapy. All measurements were significantly increased from baseline, after warming with both devices (all p < 0.05). Outer and inner eyelid temperature changes were significantly greater with the eye bag than with the eye mask (outer eyelid, +3.5 ± 1.0°C vs. +2.4 ± 0.8°C; inner eyelid, +3.5 ± 1.0°C vs. +2.5 ± 0.9°C; all p < 0.001), although there was no significant difference in LLG and NIBUT improvement between treatments (all p > 0.05). A majority of subjects (78%) preferred the application of heat with the eye bag over the eye mask. CONCLUSIONS: Both the EyeGiene mask and the MGDRx Eye Bag are convenient eyelid warming devices that result in clinically and statistically significant increases in NIBUT and LLG in patients with mild-to-moderate dry eye symptoms. The MGDRx Eye Bag is more effective in raising ocular temperature and is the preferred treatment method among subjects.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To evaluate the prognostic ability of non-contact esthesiometry corneal and lid margin sensitivity measurements in detecting symptoms and signs of dry eye disease, as defined by the global consensus TFOS DEWS II criteria. METHODS: A total of 87 community residents (58 females; mean ± SD age, 53 ± 16 years) were recruited in an investigator-masked, prospective, prognostic accuracy study. Dry eye symptomology, tear film parameters, and ocular surface characteristics were evaluated in a single clinical session, and non-contact esthesiometry corneal and lid margin sensitivity measurements performed by an independent masked assessor. RESULTS: Overall, 49 (56%) participants fulfilled the TFOS DEWS II criteria for dry eye disease, while 57 (66%) exhibited clinical symptoms, and 67 (77%) had positive signs. The prognostic abilities of corneal and lid margin sensitivity measurements were significantly greater than chance for the detection dry eye signs (both p ≤ 0.03), but not for symptoms or overall disease diagnosis (all p > 0.10). The Youden-optimal prognostic cut-offs for corneal and lid margin sensitivity thresholds were both ≥0.8 mbar for the detection of clinical dry eye signs. Lid margin sensitivity demonstrated marginally higher predictive performance than corneal sensitivity (C-statistic, 0.688 versus 0.658), and was significantly correlated with tear film stability, corneal, conjunctival and lid wiper staining (all p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Corneal and lid margin sensitivity demonstrated moderate prognostic utility for detecting clinical dry eye signs. Future research is warranted to investigate the utility of incorporating non-contact esthesiometry in the workup for dry eye disease and neurotrophic keratopathy.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: There is emerging interest in ophthalmic artery (OA) stenosis angioplasty for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration. Three-dimensional rotational angiography (3DRA) could be used during conventional angiography to determine the presence and severity of OA stenosis. In patients who had undergone 3DRA of the internal carotid artery, we aimed to assess the interrater agreement, prevalence, and risk factors for OA stenosis. METHODS: Consecutive patients from two centers who had undergone conventional angiography with 3DRA of the internal carotid arteries were enrolled in this study. 3DRAs were independently double read for the presence of OA stenosis, as defined as narrowing of the proximal OA of at least 50% when compared to the more distal "normal" OA. Interrater agreement for the evaluation of OA stenosis was assessed with the Cohen's kappa coefficient. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression were used to identify potential predictors of OA stenosis. RESULTS: Three hundred and two patients (97 men; mean ± SD 57.6 ± 13.4 years) were included in the analysis. Cohen's kappa coefficient (95% CI) was 0.877 (0.798-0.956). OA stenosis was present in 45 patients (14.9%). Multiple logistic regression demonstrated that female sex (odds ratio [OR] = 2.70, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.18-6.09, p = 0.02) and smoking (OR = 2.11, 95% CI 1.10-4.06, p = 0.03) were significant risk factors for OA stenosis. Age, hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, and subarachnoid hemorrhage were not associated with OA stenosis. CONCLUSION: The evaluation of OA stenosis on 3DRA had excellent interrater agreement. OA stenosis was common and was associated with smoking and female sex.
