RESUMEN

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of free anterolateral femoral muscle flap and perforator flap transplantation for repair of the huge wound and after periorbital tumor resection and orbital enucleation. Methods: It was a retrospective case series study. Twelve patients with orbital tumors admitted to the Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery of the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University from February 2017 to April 2021 were included. There were 4 males and 8 females, aged 48 to 87 years. Nine patients had cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, and 3 had basal cell carcinoma. All patients underwent extended resection of the tumor, resection of orbital contents and wound repair. All patients had the lesion completely removed, chimeric anterolateral thigh flap of the anterolateral femoral flap and perforator flap were transplanted to repair the wound. The donor area of the flaps was closed with tension sutures. The size of intraoperative resection lesion, intraoperative resection flap and muscle flap and the depth of the wound cavity were summarized. The postoperative flap survival, wound healing, surgical area appearance, flap color, thickness and texture, scarring and sensation in the surgical area, and tumor recurrence were observed. Results: The surgical procedures were successfully completed in all the 12 patients. The intraoperative resection lesion ranged from 7.0 cm × 5.0 cm to 15.0 cm × 8.0 cm. The depth of the wound cavity was 4.0 to 5.0 cm. The intraoperative resection flap range was 7.0 cm × 5.0 cm to 19.0 cm × 8.0 cm. The muscle flap size ranged from 4.0 cm × 3.0 cm to 5.0 cm × 4.0 cm. All flaps completely survived after surgery, and the wounds healed. The sutures at the recipient area were removed at 5 to 7 days after surgery, while the sutures at the donor area were removed at 12 to 14 days. All of the patients were followed up for 3 to 30 months. The scar at the periorbital area was concealed, and the color, thickness and texture of the flaps were similar to those of the surrounding normal skin. The scarring in the flap supply area was not hypertrophic, with localized decreased skin sensation around it. None of the patients had any tumor recurrence during the follow-up period. Conclusion: The anterolateral femoral muscle flap and perforator flap transplantation could efficiently repair the huge wound after orbital content removal, achieving satisfactory therapeutic effects.

RESUMEN

Objective: To explore the percentage of in-use electronic sphygmomanometers independently validated clinically in China. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey and Beijing, Shenzhen, Shijiazhuang, Datong, and Shihezi were selected according to the geographical location and economic level. In each site, one tertiary hospital, two community health centers, and 20 families with electronic sphygmomanometers in use were chosen. The information of electronic sphygmomanometers including brand, model, manufacturer and production date were obtained by the trained staff. Ten electronic sphygmomanometers from each hospital, five electronic sphygmomanometers from each community health center, and one electronic sphygmomanometer from each family were surveyed, and the user's subjective judgment results and judgment basis on the accuracy of the electronic sphygmomanometer measurement were collected. We searched six registration websites (Medaval, Stride BP, dabl Educational Trust, British and Irish Hypertension Society, American Medical Association and Hypertension Canada) and two research databases (PubMed and CNKI) for the clinical validation status of each electronic sphygmomanometer. Results: A total of 200 electronic sphygmomanometers were investigated in this study, of which only 29.0% (58/200) passed independent clinical validation. When stratified by users, the percentage of being clinical validated was 46.0% (23/50) for electronic sphygmomanometers in hospitals, 42.0% (21/50) for those in community health centers and 14.0% (14/100) for those in home use, respectively, and the proportions between the three groups were significantly difference (P<0.001). Doctors in tertiary hospitals and community health service centers judged the accuracy of electronic sphygmomanometers mainly on the basis of "regular correction" (41.0% (41/100)) and "comparison with other electronic sphygmomanometers" (20.0% (20/100)), while among home users, 41.0% (41/100) were not clear about the accuracy of electronic sphygmomanometers, and 40.0% (40/100) made the judgment by "comparison with the devices in hospitals". Conclusion: The clinical validation of in-use electronic sphygmomanometers in China is low. Most of users, including healthcare professionals, are not aware of clinical validation of electronic sphygmomanometers.

RESUMEN

Objective: To analyze the disease burden and change trend of lung cancer attributable to chromium in Chinese population from 1990 to 2019, and to provide reference for the formulation of health policies and strategies of disease prevention and control. Methods: In October 2022, using the data and findings of the burden of disease, injury and risk factor published in the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 (GBD 2019), the burden of lung cancer and its changes caused by occupational hexavalent chromium exposure in Chinese population from 1990 to 2019 were analyzed according to year and gender. The average age structure of the world population was used as the standard population to calculate standardized indicators, and then compared with the global population. Results: The incidence number, death number, disability adjusted life years (DALY) of lung cancer attributable to chromium in Chinese population of 2019 were 833 cases, 790 cases and 22118 person years, respectively. Compared with 1990 (257 cases, 277 cases, 8631 person years), the increase was 224.1%, 185.2%, 156.3%, higher than the global level (101.0%, 134.2%, 117.2%). The standardized morbidity, mortality and DALY rates of lung cancer attributable to chromium in Chinese population of 2019 were 0.059/100000, 0.056/100000 and 1.555/100000, which respectively increased by 169.7%, 137.4%, 113.3% in comparison with that of 1990 (0.022/100000, 0.023/100000 and 0.729/100000). The average annual percent changes were 18.8%, 15.1% and 13.5%, which were higher than the global level (5.7%, 8.4% and 7.0%). In 2019, the DALY caused by chromium-related lung cancer in the Chinese population accounted for 0.0058% (22118/382205568) of the all-cause disease burden in the Chinese population, and 51.8% (22118/42718) of the global population. In 2019, the disease burden of lung cancer attributable to chromium was higher in males than in females, the number of incidence, death and DALY were 576 cases (69.1%), 525 cases (66.5%) and 14717 person years (66.5%), respectively. Conclusion: In 2019, the proportion of disease burden caused by lung cancer attributable to chromium in the Chinese population is low, but it accounts for a high proportion of the global population burden of lung cancer attributable to chromium, and the standardized incidence, mortality and DALY rates show an increasing trend year by year from 1990 to 2019.

RESUMEN

Cochliobolus lunatus (anamorph: Curvularia lunata) is a major pathogenic fungus that causes the Curvularia leaf spot of maize. ClMAT1-1-1 and ClMAT1-2-1, the C. lunatus orthologs of C. heterostrophus ChMAT1-1-1 and ChMAT1-2-1, were investigated in the present study to uncover their functions in C. lunatus. Southern blot analysis showed that these mating-type MAT genes exist in the C. lunatus genome as a single copy. ClMAT1-1-1 and ClMAT1-2-1 were knocked out and complemented to generate ΔClmat1-1-1 and ΔClmat1-2-1 and ΔClmat1-1-1-C and ΔClmat1-2-1-C, respectively. The mutant strains had defective sexual development and failed to produce pseudothecia. There were no significant differences in growth rate or conidia production between the mutant and wild-type strains. However, the aerial mycelia and mycelial dry weight of ΔClmat1-1-1 and ΔClmat1-2-1 were lower than those of wild type, suggesting that MAT genes affect asexual development. ClMAT genes were involved in the responses to cell wall integrity and osmotic adaptation. ΔClmat1-2-1 had a lower conidial germination rate than the wild-type strain CX-3. The virulence of ΔClmat1-2-1 and ΔClmat1-1-1 was also reduced compared with the wild-type. Complementary strains could restore all the phenotypes.

RESUMEN

Since 2007, the Oncofertility Consortium Annual Conference has brought together a diverse network of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and professional levels to disseminate emerging basic and clinical research findings in fertility preservation. This network also developed enduring educational materials to accelerate the pace and quality of field-wide scientific communication. Between 2007 and 2019, the Oncofertility Consortium Annual Conference was held as an in-person event in Chicago, IL. The conference attracted approximately 250 attendees each year representing 20 countries around the world. In 2020, however, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted this paradigm and precluded an in-person meeting. Nevertheless, there remained an undeniable demand for the oncofertility community to convene. To maintain the momentum of the field, the Oncofertility Consortium hosted a day-long virtual meeting on March 5, 2021, with the theme of "Oncofertility Around the Globe" to highlight the diversity of clinical care and translational research that is ongoing around the world in this discipline. This virtual meeting was hosted using the vFairs ® conference platform and allowed over 700 people to participate, many of whom were first-time conference attendees. The agenda featured concurrent sessions from presenters in six continents which provided attendees a complete overview of the field and furthered our mission to create a global community of oncofertility practice. This paper provides a synopsis of talks delivered at this event and highlights the new advances and frontiers in the fields of oncofertility and fertility preservation around the globe from clinical practice and patient-centered efforts to translational research.

RESUMEN

Objective: To explore the alterations of cerebral cortical thickness in severe nicotine addicts by using surface-based morphology (SBM) method and further analyzing the association of these changes with smoking-related characteristics. Methods: Data were retrospectively collected from August 2014 to August 2019 from severe nicotine addicts [aged 25 to 52(38±8)years] and 56 non-smokers healthy volunteers [aged 22 to 51(36±8)years]. All subjects underwent 3.0 T magnetic resonance scans, and FreeSurfer software was used to analyze the difference in cortical thickness between the two groups, and Pearson correlation analysis was used to explore the correlation between the nicotine dependence group and smoking-related characteristics. Results: Compared to control group, the severe nicotine dependence group had a significant reduction in the cortical thickness in 9 areas of the brain, the left cerebral cortex, including: middletemporal, precentral, superiorfrontal, insula [(2.78±0.10) mm vs (2.92±0.17) mm, (2.57±0.15) mm vs (2.70±0.14) mm, (2.63±0.18) mm vs (2.76±0.15) mm, (3.01±0.10) mm vs (3.13±0.13) mm, all P<0.01, respectively], and the right cerebral cortex including: temporalpole, rostralmiddlefrontal, superiorfrontal, postcentral, parsopercularis [(3.12±0.14) mm vs (3.26±0.19) mm, (2.71±0.16) mm vs (2.87±0.18) mm, (2.96±0.15) mm vs (3.10±0.20) mm, (2.57±0.15) mm vs (2.71±0.15) mm, (2.54±0.11) mm vs (2.65±0.15) mm, all P<0.05, respectively]. The cortical thickness of left insular was positively correlated with the initial smoking age (r=0.403,P=0.009), while the cortical thickness of the other brain regions had no significant correlation with smoking-related characteristics (all P>0.05). Conclusion: Significant alterations were observed in cortical thickness in severe nicotine addicts, and there is a correlation between the thickness of the left insular cortex and the age of initial smoking.

RESUMEN

Objective: To differentiate hyperintense hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) in the hepatobiliary phase by MRI multimodal parameters. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study method was adopted. Clinical data on 15 cases with hyperintense HCC and 15 cases with FNH in the hepatobiliary phase admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of the Army Medical University from January 2012 to December 2019 were collected. All patients with solitary lesions who underwent Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced MRI examinations were included. Surgically resected specimens were verified by pathological and immunohistochemical examination. HCC and FNH imaging features were analyzed by two radiologists. Results: (1) HCC and FNH apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values were 1 205.07±239.65×10-3 mm2/s and 1 434.73±217.6×10-3 mm2/s, respectively, and the SIADC difference was statistically significant (P<0.05) between the two groups. (2) In the dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI sequence, 15 cases of HCC were significantly enhanced in the arterial phase, of which 13 cases were characterized by continuous enhancement, and 2 cases were characterized by wash-in and wash-out enhancement. There was no statistically significant difference (P>0.05) between the two groups. SIenhancement rate between HCC and FNH (1.39±0.60 vs. 1.33±0.50, P>0.05) had no significant difference. (3) HCC and FNH morphological features in the hepatobiliary phase included: annular hypointensity: HCC (8 cases) vs. FNH (0 cases); contrast filling defects: HCC (8 cases) vs. FNH (0 cases); linear hyposignal separation: HCC (10 cases) vs. FNH (0 cases); and stellate scars: HCC (0) vs. FNH (5 cases), and there were statistically significant differences (P<0.05) between the two groups . Conclusion: Multimodal MRI have significant value for differentiating hyperintense HCC and FNH in the hepatobiliary phase.

RESUMEN

Intramuscular fat (IMF) content is a critical indicator of pork quality that affects directly the purchasing desire of consumers. However, to measure IMF content is both laborious and costly, preventing our understanding of its genetic determinants and improvement. In the present study, we constructed an accurate and fast image acquisition and analysis system, to extract and calculate the digital IMF content, the proportion of fat areas in the image (PFAI) of the longissimus muscle of 1709 animals from multiple pig populations. PFAI was highly significantly correlated with marbling scores (MS; 0.95, r2  = 0.90), and also with IMF contents chemically defined for 80 samples (0.79, r2  = 0.63; more accurate than direct analysis between IMF contents and MS). The processing time for one image is only 2.31 s. Genome-wide association analysis on PFAI for all 1709 animals identified 14 suggestive significant SNPs and 1 genome-wide significant SNP. On MS, we identified nine suggestive significant SNPs, and seven of them were also identified in PFAI. Furthermore, the significance (-log P) values of the seven common SNPs are higher in PFAI than in MS. Novel candidate genes of biological importance for IMF content were also discovered. Our imaging systems developed for prediction of digital IMF content is closer to IMF measured by Soxhlet extraction and slightly more accurate than MS. It can achieve fast and high-throughput IMF phenotype, which can be used in improvement of pork quality.

RESUMEN

Breeding for good meat quality performance while maintaining large body size and desirable carcass traits has been the major challenge for modern swine selective breeding. To address this goal, in the present work we studied five related populations produced by two commercial breeds (Berkshire and Duroc) and two Chinese breeds (Licha black pig and Lulai black pig). A single-trait GWAS performed on 20 body size and carcass traits using a self-developed China Chip-1 porcine SNP50K BeadChip identified 11 genome-wide significant QTL on nine chromosomes and 22 suggestive QTL on 15 chromosomes. For the 11 genome-wide significant QTL, eight were detected in at least two populations, and the rest were population-specific and only mapped in Shanxia black pig. Most of the genome-wide significant QTL were pleiotropic; for example, the QTL around 75.65 Mb on SSC4 was associated with four traits at genome-wide significance level. After screening the genes within 50 kb of the top SNP for each genome-wide significant QTL, NR6A1 and VRTN were chosen as candidate genes for vertebrae number; PLAG1 and BMP2 were identified as candidate genes for body size; and MC4R was the strong candidate gene for body weight. The four genes have been reported as candidates for thoracic vertebrae number, lumbar vertebrae number, carcass length and body weight respectively in previous studies. The effects of VRTN on thoracic vertebrae number, carcass length and body length have been verified in Shanxia black pig. Therefore, the VRTN genotype could be used in gene-assisted selection, and this could accelerate genetic improvement of body size and carcass traits in Shanxia black pig.

RESUMEN

To explore the correlation between the changes of the intestinal flora of newly treated pulmonary tuberculosis patients and the immune indicators of the body, and to provide a reference for the prevention and treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. A single-center and case-control study was adopted. From October 2020 to April 2021, 43 patients with newly diagnosed tuberculosis in the Department of Tuberculosis, Affiliated Changsha Central Hospital,University of South China were selected as the control group. 43 cases of newly treated pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB), 43 healthy control (HC) during the same period, collected fresh feces and whole blood of subjects, and used Illumina Hiseq high-throughput sequencing technology to analyze 16S of all microorganisms in feces The V4 region of rRNA was amplified and sequenced, and the structure of the intestinal flora was analyzed by QIIME software. Use flow cytometry to determine the subject's immune indicators (CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD4+CD25+CD127-Treg, CD14+CD16+, CD14+CD16-), and analyze the changes in intestinal flora and immune function in newly treated pulmonary tuberculosis patients Inherent connection. The χ² test, t test, and Wilcox rank sum test were used to analyze the differences in age, gender, α diversity, and relative abundance of the two groups of people. Compared with the HC group, the alpha diversity of the intestinal flora in the PTB group decreased (shannon index: t=3.906, P=0.000 2; simpson index: Z=553, P=0.004 7; chao1 index: t=5.395, P=0.000 0). ß diversity analysis showed that there were significant differences in the structure of the intestinal flora between the two groups (P=0.000). Species difference analysis showed that at the phylum level, the relative abundance of Firmicutes in the PTB group was significantly lower than that in the HC group (Z=486.0, P=0.000 5). At the genus level, there are 15 different bacterial genera between the two groups. In the PTB group, bifidobacterium, enterococcus, lactobacillus, anaerostipes, the relative abundance of the above 5 genera of veillonella is higher than that of the HC group (P<0.05); Butyricimonas, clostridium, and broutella (blautia), coprococcus, dorea, lachnospira, roseburia, faecalibacterium, ruminococcus, the relative abundance of 10 bacterial genera including dialister was lower than that of the HC group (P<0.05). Comparison of immune indexes between groups showed that CD14+CD16+monocytes (%) in the PTB group were higher than those in the HC group (t=2.456, P=0.001 6<0.05), while CD14+CD16-monocytes (%) were lower than HC (t=-4.368, P=0.000<0.05), while the differences in CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD4+/CD8+and Treg (CD4+CD25+CD127-) were not statistically significant (P>0.05). Spearman correlation analysis showed that Firmicutes in the PTB group was negatively correlated with CD4+/CD8+, CD14+CD16+(r=-0.218, P=0.048; r=-0.245, P=0.025), and positively correlated with CD14+CD16-Correlation (r=0.250, P=0.022); At the genus level, Faecalis is positively correlated with CD4+/CD8+and CD4+(r=0.250, P=0.023; r=0.258, P=0.019); Rosella and CD3+, CD8+and CD14+CD16-are positively correlated (r=0.27, P=0.024; r=0.219, P=0.046; r=0.027, P=0.039), and negatively correlated with CD14+CD16+(r=-0.280, P= 0.01). Changes in the structure of the intestinal flora of newly treated pulmonary tuberculosis patients may be one of the influencing factors of the immune function of the body. Targeted optimization of the structure of the intestinal flora and improvement of the body's immunity may be used as an effective auxiliary treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis.

RESUMEN

Objective: To explore the relationship between input and output of occupational health funds, and to provide basis for relevant departments to make decisions. Methods: In September 2018, a state-owned iron ore in Hebei Province (mining history of more than 10 years, which can represent the general type of iron ore) was selected as the research object. Through the investigation and collection of enterprise general situation, occupational health input, loss and output related indicators, the iron mine occupational health expenditure input-output table and model were established, and the digital relationship between the investment and output was solved by MATLAB software. Results: The labor consumption in the departments of underground mining, open pit mining, crushing and rock discharging, transportation, tailings and mineral processing (taking labor wages as reference) were 756.46, 1.281.78, 987.61, 1 570.71, 50.956 and 18.9116 million yuan/year respectively. The output value of each sector is 11 207.19, 18 989.95, 15 176.40, 25 294.00, 7.704.94 and 280.1797 million yuan/year respectively. The ratio of health input to total output was 0.004 5, and the ratio of occupational health input to output was 1/0.046. Conclusion: The input-output table model of occupational health in iron mine can reflect the relationship between input and output of occupational health funds. The input situation of the coal mine is poor, and the input does not bring obvious occupational health benefits.

RESUMEN

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) acts through its receptor fibroblast growth factor inducible 14 (Fn14), and participates in skin inflammation. Both TWEAK and Fn14 are highly expressed in skin lesions of patients with atopic dermatitis. The purpose of this study was to further explore the effect of Fn14 inhibition on experimental atopic dermatitis. Experimental atopic dermatitis was induced in the wild-type and Fn14 knock-out BALB/c mice. The effect of TWEAK/Fn14 interaction on keratinocytes was studied in an in-vitro model of atopic dermatitis. Fn14 deficiency ameliorates skin lesions in the mice model, accompanied by less infiltration of inflammatory cells and lower local levels of proinflammatory cytokines, including TWEAK, TNF-α and interleukin (IL)-17. Fn14 deficiency also attenuates the up-regulation of TNFR1 in skin lesions of atopic dermatitis. Moreover, topical TWEAK exacerbates skin lesion in the wild-type but not in the Fn14 knock-out mice. In vitro, TWEAK enhances the expressions of IL-17, IL-18 and IFN-γ in keratinocytes under atopic dermatitis-like inflammation. These results suggest that Fn14 deficiency protects mice from experimental atopic dermatitis, involving the attenuation of inflammatory responses and keratinocyte apoptosis. In the context of atopic dermatitis-like inflammation, TWEAK modulates keratinocytes via a TNFR1-mediated pathway.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin carcinoma. AIM: To investigate the function of key micro(mi)RNAs and to explore the potential molecular mechanisms involved in BCC. METHODS: The microarray dataset GSE34535, which comprises seven BCC samples and seven control samples, was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Differentially expressed miRNAs (DE-miRNAs) were identified. We collected tissue samples from 20 patients with BCC and 20 healthy controls (HCs), to compare the miR-18a expression in their tissue samples. Expression of miR-18a in A431 and HaCaT cells was also assayed. Following this, we upregulated and downregulated miR-18a expression in A431 cells to examine the effects on cell proliferation, migration and apoptosis. To further investigate the relative mechanism, the proteins LC3, Beclin 1, Akt and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) were examined by quantitative real-time PCR and Western blotting. For further verification, we examined the expression of LC3 in the 20 BCC and 20 HC tissue samples. RESULTS: In total, 19 DE-miRNAs (13 upregulated and 6 downregulated) that were common to the BCC and HC groups were identified. Levels of miR-18a were about three-fold higher in BCC tissues and A431 cells compared with their respective control groups. In vitro, downregulation of miR-18a was shown to inhibit cell proliferation and activate autophagy via the Akt/mTOR signalling pathway, while upregulation of miR-18a promoted proliferation of these cells. LC3 was decreased in BCC compared with HC tissue samples. CONCLUSIONS: Our data support an oncogenic role of miR-18a through a novel Akt/mTOR/Beclin 1/LC3 axis, and suggest that the antitumour effects of miR-18a inhibitor may make it suitable for BCC therapy.

RESUMEN

Chinese materia medica decoction pieces (CMMDPs), one of the three pillars of the Chinese materia medica industry, are a key link in the Chinese materia medica industrial chain. Industrialization is the only way for the modernization of CMMDPs. This review mainly summarizes the characteristics, history, current situation and prospect of CMMDPs industry, providing a new reference for promoting the flourishing development of the industrialization of CMMDPs and for serving massive health industry. The literature was collected from databases including Web of Science, PubMed, Elsevier and CNKI (Chinese). CMMDPs industry has the characteristics of regionalism, resource dependency, customer diversity and low industrial concentration. Deeply processed products include traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula granules, small-packed decoction pieces, ultrafine decoction pieces, puffed decoction pieces, compressed decoction pieces and instant decoction pieces. Integration of treatment and processing at the place of origin is emerging. However, there is still room for improvement, for example, the manufacturing technologies of CMMDPs industry need to be continually improved. The management of CMMDPs' normalized production also needs to be strengthened. The quality of CMMDPs should be strengthened supervision and it should establish the objective and feasible quality evaluation system for CMMDPs. At present, China has attached unprecedented importance to the development of TCM, and issued a number of supporting policies, sparing no effort to support its development.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To explore the predictive values of the combination of preoperative data, including medical history and physical examination, and results of sleep oximetry performed early after the surgery (one week) in predicting the treatment outcomes of uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) in adult patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). METHODS: All the patients who were diagnosed with OSAHS, underwent UPPP treatment and had complete follow-up data in our institution between Jan 2013 and May 2016 were enrolled in our study. The pre-operative data of these patients, including age, physical examination, and polysomnography (PSG) data, were all exactly collected for analysis. All these patients had received the evaluation of subjective efficacy scale and the sleep oximetry test in early post-operative days (within one week). The long-term efficacy evaluations including PSG and subjective efficacy scale were all finished at least three months after the surgery. RESULTS: In the research 61 patients were finally studied, including 25 responders (41.0%) and 36 non-responders (59.0%). Regression analysis revealed that the pre-operative Friedman stage and early post-operative oxygen desaturation index of ≥4% (ODI4) were found to be independently predictive parameters for the UPPP treatment outcomes (P<0.05). The ROC curve analysis was used to estimate the predictive values of ODI4 to the treatment outcomes, and it was calculated with an area under the curve of 0.822. Using the ODI4 of 15 as the cutoff value, the sensitivity and specificity of that calculated were up to 0.778 and 0.760 respectively. The response rate among the patients with an early post-operative ODI4 of <15 was 70.4%, which was significantly higher than that of the patients with an early post-operative ODI4 of ≥15, whose response rate was 17.6% (P<0.05). The similar results could also be obtained in the patients with pre-operative Friedman stage II (87.5% vs.25.0%) and Friedman stage III (33.3% vs. 6.7%). CONCLUSION: The combination of early post UPPP operation oximetry parameters, especially ODI4, and pre-operative Friedman stage could be used in better evaluating the potential surgical outcomes of UPPP.

RESUMEN

Objective: To compare the prevalence of anxiety among old people before and during the COVID-19 epidemic in China, and to provide scientific evidence for psychological intervention of the elderly during public health emergencies. Methods: In 2019, the National Psychological Care Project for the Elderly was launched, covering 818 communities across the country, and 188 407 subjects received psychological assessment. In April and May 2020, a convenient sample of 6 467 aged 65 and above subjects were followed up on the anxiety status and its influencing factors during the epidemic period by using structurized questionnaire. Data collection and management were carried out using the national elderly psychological care project data collection platform. McNemar test was used to compare the difference of the prevalence of anxiety among elderly before (October 2019 to January 23, 2020) and during the epidemic (April-May 2020). The difference of the prevalence of anxiety among elderly with different characteristics was compared by chi square test. The influencing factors of anxiety before and during the epidemic situation were analyzed by multivariate logistic regression model. Results: The prevalence of anxiety symptoms in the elderly population was 4.95% (95%CI: 4.42%-5.48%) before the outbreak of COVID-19, and 10.10% (95%CI: 9.36%-10.83%) during the epidemic which was twice as high as before the outbreak. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the risk factors of anxiety symptoms before the outbreak were with one underlying disease (OR=1.57, 95%CI: 1.05-2.37), with two or more underlying diseases (OR=3.10, 95%CI: 2.13-4.51), and the protective factors were with hobbies, good relationship between children, good relationship with spouse, positive aging attitude and good psychological resilience (all P<0.05). The risk factors of developing anxiety symptoms during the epidemic were living in rural areas (OR=1.77, 95%CI: 1.42-2.20), participating in social activities regularly (OR=1.23, 95%CI: 1.02-1.48), having a good relationship with friends (OR=1.42, 95%CI: 1.11-1.82) and were quarantined or people around were quarantined for medical observation (OR=2.80, 95% CI: 1.90-4.13). Conclusion: The COVID-19 epidemic leads to a double increase in anxiety among the elderly. We should pay more attention to the psychological state of the elderly in rural area and who is being quarantined or people around being quarantined for medical observation.

RESUMEN

We demonstrate an unusual manifestation of coherent scattering for electron waves in mesoscopic quantum point contacts, in which fast electron dynamics allows the phonon system to serve as a quasistatic source of disorder. The low-temperature conductance of these devices exhibits a giant (≫2e^{2}/h) zero bias anomaly (ZBA), the features of which are reproduced in a nonequilibrium model for coherent scattering from the "frozen" phonon disorder. According to this model, the ZBA is understood to result from the in situ electrical manipulation of the phonon disorder, a mechanism that could open up a pathway to the on-demand control of coherent scattering in the solid state.

RESUMEN

InP-InAs-InP multi-shell nanowires (NWs) were grown in the wurtzite (WZ) or zincblende (ZB) crystal phase and their photoluminescence (PL) properties were investigated at low temperature (≈6 K) for different measurement geometries. PL emissions from the NWs were carefully studied in a wide energy range from 0.7 to 1.6 eV. The different features observed in the PL spectra for increasing energies are attributed to four distinct emitting domains of these nano-heterostructures: the InAs island (axially grown), the thin InAs capping shell (radially grown), the crystal-phase quantum disks arising from the coexistence of InP ZB and WZ segments in the same NW, and the InP portions of the NW. These results provide a useful frame for the rational implementation of InP-InAs-InP multi-shell NWs containing various quantum confined domains as polychromatic optically active components in nanodevices for quantum information and communication technologies.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to preliminary explore the abnormal neuromagnetic activation in female migraine patients between attacks using magnetoencephalography (MEG) and pattern reversed visual evoked magnetic fields (PR-VEFs). METHODS: A total of 17 female migraine subjects during the headache-free phase and 17 healthy controls (HC) were studied using a 275-channel magnetoencephalography (MEG) system. In this study, visual evoked magnetic fields (VEFs) were generated by a pattern-reversal check as the visual stimulus. The average of 100 VEFs was evolved by different half patterns were averaged and used to analyze waveform, spectrum, and source location within two frequency ranges (5-100 and 100-1000 Hz), respectively. RESULTS: In migraine subjects, the latency of second peak of VEFs (VIIs) showed significant prolongations when compared with HC. On the sensor level, the cortical spectral power in migraine subjects was similar to that of HC in the 5-100 Hz range and was lower in the 1000-1000 Hz range. There was a decrement of source strength in the visual cortex in migraine patients when compared to HC in both the 5-100 and 100-1000 Hz frequency range. Moreover, there was a similar odds of activation in 5-100 and 100-1000 Hz frequency ranges in the area beyond the primary visual cortex between the two groups. In addition, no correlation was observed between clinical data (intensity of headache, headache-history duration, the frequency of headaches) and MEG results. CONCLUSIONS: The findings presented in the current study, suggested that interictal cortical activation following a visual stimulus was low in female migraine patients. The low pre-activation was detected in the visual cortex using VEF and MEG in both low and high-frequency band. Our results add to the existing evidence that cortical interictal excitability change may be relative to the pain-module mechanism in migraine brains. Thus, our data improved the apprehension of the cortical disorder of migraine in the high-frequency domain.

RESUMEN

Influenza is a long-standing public health concern, but its transmission remains poorly understood. To have a better knowledge of influenza transmission, we carried out a detailed modelling investigation in a nosocomial influenza outbreak in Hong Kong. We identified three hypothesised transmission modes between index patient and other inpatients based on the long-range airborne and fomite routes. We considered three kinds of healthcare workers' routine round pathways in 1140 scenarios with various values of important parameters. In each scenario, we used a multi-agent modelling framework to estimate the infection risk for each hypothesis and conducted least-squares fitting to evaluate the hypotheses by comparing the distribution of the infection risk with that of the attack rates. Amongst the hypotheses tested in the 1140 scenarios, the prediction of modes involving the long-range airborne route fit better with the attack rates, and that of the two-route transmission mode had the best fit, with the long-range airborne route contributing about 94% and the fomite route contributing 6% to the infections. Under the assumed conditions, the influenza virus was likely to have spread via a combined long-range airborne and fomite routes, with the former predominant and the latter negligible.
