RESUMEN

A precision measurement of the ß^{+} decay of ^{8}B was performed using the Beta-decay Paul Trap to determine the ß-ν angular correlation coefficient a_{ßν}. The experimental results were combined with new ab initio symmetry-adapted no-core shell-model calculations to yield the second-most precise measurement from Gamow-Teller decays, a_{ßν}=-0.3345±0.0019_{stat}±0.0021_{syst}. This value agrees with the standard model value of -1/3 and improves uncertainties in ^{8}B by nearly a factor of 2. By combining results from ^{8}B and ^{8}Li, a tight limit on tensor current coupling to right-handed neutrinos was obtained. A recent global evaluation of all other precision ß decay studies suggested a nonzero value for right-handed neutrino coupling in contradiction with the standard model at just above 3σ. The present results are of comparable sensitivity and do not support this finding.

RESUMEN

Objective: To assess the levels of serum glycocalyx markers in the first 24 hours after cardiac arrest (CA) and investigate their relationship with 30-day outcomes. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on prospectively collected data from CA patients, who were admitted to the intensive care units of the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University and obtained return of spontaneous circulation for more than 24 hours between September 2021 and October 2022. Serum samples obtained at the 24-hour after CA were utilized to measure the levels of glycocalyx markers, including heparan sulfate (HS), hyaluronic acid (HA), and syndecan-1 (Sdc-1). Patients were allocated into good function (CPC1-2) and poor function (CPC3-5) groups on the basis of cerebral performance category (CPC) at 30 days post-CA. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine the association between serum glycocalyx markers and neurological outcomes. Patients were regrouped in light of 30-d mortality and Cox regression analysis was used to determine the association between serum glycocalyx markers and 30-d mortality. Results: A total of 71 patients were included in the study, including 31 (43.7%) females and 40 (56.3%) males, with an average age of (59.0±17.0) years. The poor function group (n=49) demonstrated significantly elevated levels of HS and HA when compared to the good function group (n=22) [HS: 2 461.0(1 623.0, 5 492.0) µg/L vs 1 492.0 (914.0, 2 550.0) µg/L, P=0.008; HA: 124.0(97.0, 365.0)µg/L vs 337.0(135.0, 1 421.0) µg/L, P=0.033]. Adjusted logistic regression analysis revealed that HS was independently associated with poor neurological outcome [odds ratio (OR)=0.389, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.182-0.828, P=0.014]. In the 30-day mortality analysis, the death group (n=32) exhibited significantly higher levels of HS and HA when compared to the survival group (n=39) [HS: 1 880.0(1 011.0, 3 554.0) µg/L vs 2 500.0(1 726.0, 6 276.0) µg/L, P=0.027; HA: 162.0(99.0, 537.0) µg/L vs 813.0(148.0, 1 531.0) µg/L, P=0.025]. Adjusted Cox regression analysis indicated that elevated levels of HS and HA were independent risk factors (HS: HR=1.697, 95%CI: 1.126-2.557, P=0.011; HA: HR=1.336, 95%CI: 1.047-1.705, P=0.020) for 30-day mortality. Conclusions: High level of serum HS in 24 hours after CA may serve as a potential predictive marker for both neurological function and 30-day mortality. However, high level of serum HA appears to primarily predict 30-day mortality. Sdc-1 does not seem to contribute to outcome prediction.

RESUMEN

Using a novel method of isochronous mass spectrometry, the masses of ^{62}Ge, ^{64}As, ^{66}Se, and ^{70}Kr are measured for the first time, and the masses of ^{58}Zn, ^{61}Ga, ^{63}Ge, ^{65}As, ^{67}Se, ^{71}Kr, and ^{75}Sr are redetermined with improved accuracy. The new masses allow us to derive residual proton-neutron interactions (δV_{pn}) in the N=Z nuclei, which are found to decrease (increase) with increasing mass A for even-even (odd-odd) nuclei beyond Z=28. This bifurcation of δV_{pn} cannot be reproduced by the available mass models, nor is it consistent with expectations of a pseudo-SU(4) symmetry restoration in the fp shell. We performed ab initio calculations with a chiral three-nucleon force (3NF) included, which indicate the enhancement of the T=1 pn pairing over the T=0 pn pairing in this mass region, leading to the opposite evolving trends of δV_{pn} in even-even and odd-odd nuclei.

RESUMEN

Objectives: To investigated the safety and efficacy of treating patients with acute non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and elevated levels of N-terminal pro-hormone B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) with levosimendan within 24 hours of first medical contact (FMC). Methods: This multicenter, open-label, block-randomized controlled trial (NCT03189901) investigated the safety and efficacy of levosimendan as an early management strategy of acute heart failure (EMS-AHF) for patients with NSTEMI and high NT-proBNP levels. This study included 255 patients with NSTEMI and elevated NT-proBNP levels, including 142 males and 113 females with a median age of 65 (58-70) years, and were admitted in the emergency or outpatient departments at 14 medical centers in China between October 2017 and October 2021. The patients were randomly divided into a levosimendan group (n=129) and a control group (n=126). The primary outcome measure was NT-proBNP levels on day 3 of treatment and changes in the NT-proBNP levels from baseline on day 5 after randomization. The secondary outcome measures included the proportion of patients with more than 30% reduction in NT-proBNP levels from baseline, major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) during hospitalization and at 6 months after hospitalization, safety during the treatment, and health economics indices. The measurement data parameters between groups were compared using the t-test or the non-parametric test. The count data parameters were compared between groups using the χ² test. Results: On day 3, the NT-proBNP levels in the levosimendan group were lower than the control group but were statistically insignificant [866 (455, 1 960) vs. 1 118 (459, 2 417) ng/L, Z=-1.25,P=0.21]. However, on day 5, changes in the NT-proBNP levels from baseline in the levosimendan group were significantly higher than the control group [67.6% (33.8%,82.5%)vs.54.8% (7.3%,77.9%), Z=-2.14, P=0.03]. There were no significant differences in the proportion of patients with more than 30% reduction in the NT-proBNP levels on day 5 between the levosimendan and the control groups [77.5% (100/129) vs. 69.0% (87/126), χ²=2.34, P=0.13]. Furthermore, incidences of MACE did not show any significant differences between the two groups during hospitalization [4.7% (6/129) vs. 7.1% (9/126), χ²=0.72, P=0.40] and at 6 months [14.7% (19/129) vs. 12.7% (16/126), χ²=0.22, P=0.64]. Four cardiac deaths were reported in the control group during hospitalization [0 (0/129) vs. 3.2% (4/126), P=0.06]. However, 6-month survival rates were comparable between the two groups (log-rank test, P=0.18). Moreover, adverse events or serious adverse events such as shock, ventricular fibrillation, and ventricular tachycardia were not reported in both the groups during levosimendan treatment (days 0-1). The total cost of hospitalization [34 591.00(15 527.46,59 324.80) vs. 37 144.65(16 066.90,63 919.00)yuan, Z=-0.26, P=0.80] and the total length of hospitalization [9 (8, 12) vs. 10 (7, 13) days, Z=0.72, P=0.72] were lower for patients in the levosimendan group compared to those in the control group, but did not show statistically significant differences. Conclusions: Early administration of levosimendan reduced NT-proBNP levels in NSTEMI patients with elevated NT-proBNP and did not increase the total cost and length of hospitalization, but did not significantly improve MACE during hospitalization or at 6 months.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The burden of cervical arterial atherosclerosis, which is an important risk factor of stroke, is huge in China. The visceral adiposity index (VAI) is a convenient index that is related to a series of metabolic abnormalities and a variety of diseases, including cerebrovascular diseases. This study aimed to explore the relationship between VAI and cervical arterial atherosclerosis. METHODS: This cross-sectional study used the multistage stratified random cluster sampling method to acquire a representative sample of residents aged ≥40 in the general population of northeast China. All participants completed a detailed questionnaire and provided blood samples. Cervical vascular ultrasound was performed by experienced ultrasound doctors. VAI was calculated by a well-established formula and analyzed by quartiles (Q1-Q4). RESULTS: A total of 3688 people aged ≥40 years who underwent cervical arterial ultrasound were finally included, amongst whom 3.2% had increased intima-media thickness (IMT), 48.6% had carotid plaque and 4.0% had cervical artery stenosis (CAS). After adjusting for several parameters, little statistical significance was found between VAI and increased IMT; compared with the VAI-Q1 group, the VAI-Q2, VAI-Q3 and VAI-Q4 groups were more likely to have CAS [odds ratio (OR) 2.01, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.17-3.43; OR 1.82, 95% CI 1.05-3.15; OR 1.79, 95% CI 1.03-3.12] and the VAI-Q3 and VAI-Q4 groups were at greater risk of carotid plaque (OR 1.30, 95% CI 1.05-1.62; OR 1.34, 95% CI 1.07-1.67). CONCLUSIONS: The VAI was related to carotid plaque and CAS in the general population that is older than 40 years.

RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the application and efficacy of left ventricular (LV) electrical delay (LVED) and the distance of right ventricular(RV) pacing polar to LV(DRLV) in optimizing LV pacing polar. Methods: Heart failure (HF) patients who implanted cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) device with a LV quadripolar lead from January 2014 to January 2018 at General Hospital of Northern Theater Command were enrolled in the study. Measurements of LVED and DRLV of each polar of the lead were performed in patients with HF who underwent CRT with LV quadripolar lead. The principle in turn for polar selecting used for clinical LV pacing was the pacing polar: (1)without phrenic nerve stimulation(PNS); (2)with appropriate capture threshold; (3)not located in apical; (4)with maximal LVED; (5)with maximal DRLV. The LV pacing polar was selected for CRT according to the procedure. The distribution of target veins implanted with LV quadripolar lead were calculated. The percentage of biventricular pacing at 6-month follow-up was recorded. The following indexes were compared before and 6-month after surgery, including QRS duration, LV end-systolic volume(LVESV), LV ejection fraction(LVEF), LV end-diastolic dimension(LVEDD), 6 minute walking distance(6MWD), New York Heart Association(NYHA) class. The efficacy and echocardiographic efficacy of CRT was evaluated. Results: There were twenty-nine HF patients enrolled. The mean age of enrolled patients was(61.7±7.6)years old, nineteen (66%)of them were male. There were seventeen(59%) patients diagnosed as dilated cardiomyopathy and twelve(41%) patients as ischemic cardiomyopathy. All patients were successfully implanted with LV quadripolar lead into target veins, and all four pacing sites were also in target veins. Target veins were located in lateral veins in 15 patients (52%), anterior veins in 2 patients (7%), posterior veins in 11 patients (38%), and lateral branches of great cardiac veins in 1 patient (3%). After 6-month of follow-up, the percentage of biventricular pacing was greater than 95%.There were nineteen(66%) patients optimized LV pacing polar by the largest LVED and four (14%) patients by the DRLV. Of the 29 patients, 5(17%) patients used D1 as the pacing polar, 5(17%) patients used M2 as the pacing polar, 7(24%) patients used M3 as the pacing polar, and 12(41%) patients used P4 as the pacing polar. The pacing polars (D1, M2) of traditional bipolar lead were used in 10(34%) patients, and the LV quadripolar lead specific pacing polars (M3, P4) were used in 19(66%) patients.Compared to a LV quadripolar lead, the LV pacing polar (M3, P4) selected in 19(66%) patients were not achievable with the traditional LV bipolar lead (D1, M2). Preoperative QRS duration, LVESV, LVEF, LVEDD, 6MWD and NYHA class were (171±24)ms, (231±79)ml, (28±5)%, (74±11)mm, (294±103)m, (3.2±1.0)class and the postoperative 6-month were (130±12)ms, (158±73)ml, (36±10)%, (66±12)mm, (371±86)m, (1.9±0.5)class. These indexes were significantly improved after 6 months operation(P<0.001). 97% and 83% patients were responders of CRT as assessed by 6-month efficacy and echocardiographic efficacy. Conclusion: The maximal LVED and DRLV can be used to select LV pacing polar with a high rate of CRT response rate.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To detect receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANKL) expressed on B10 cells in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and to evaluate the correlation between RANKL-producing B10 cells in RA and clinical features and laboratory parameters, trying to reveal the possible role of B10 cells in the pathogenesis of RA and the potential mechanism of impaired immunosuppressive capacities. METHODS: 25 RA patients and 20 healthy volunteers were enrolled. These RA patients did not received treatment with glucocorticoids, disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug and biologics during the recent half of a year. The levels of RANKL-producing B10 cells were measured by flow cytometry (FCM) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The correlation between the frequencies of RANKL-producing B10 cells in RA and clinical data, laboratory parameters were analyzed. The role of tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) and interleukin 1ß (IL-1ß) in inducing RANKL expression in B10 cells was evaluated by in vitro stimulation assay. Independent samples t test, Pearson and Spearman correlation were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: B10 cells were capable of producing RANKL at a low level in health controls. The frequencies of RANKL-producing B10 cells were markedly higher in RA patients than in health controls (3.65%±1.59% vs. 2.25%±0.68%, P<0.01). The frequencies of these cells correlated positively with RA tender joint counts, swollen joint counts and disease activity score in 28 joints (DAS28) (r=0.479, P=0.035; r=0.519, P=0.008; r=0.526, P=0.019). However, no correlation was found between these cells and RA patient age, disease duration, or the levels of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-citrullinated peptide antibody (ACPA). After in vitro stimulation by TNF-α, but not IL-1ß, B10 cells isolated from healthy donors demonstrated fundamentally upregulated expression of RANKL. CONCLUSION: Our studies showed the frequencies of RANKL-producing B10 cells were markedly higher in RA patients, and their frequencies were positively correlated with RA tender joint counts, swollen joint counts and DAS28. These findings suggested that B10 cells might be involved in RA bone destruction.

RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the heart rate control situation of chronic heart failure (CHF) patients who received cardiovascular implantable electronic device (CIED) therapy, and to assess the heart rate control efficacy by optimized medication adjustment. Methods: We performed a perspective study in heart failure with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (HFrEF) patients who received CIED according to guideline recommendations, patients were enrolled from January 2012 to January 2017. Resting heart rate (RHR) recorded by electrocardiogram after 10 minutes' rest and medication usage within 1 month were recorded at baseline. RHR less than 70 beats per minute (bpm) was regarded as well controlled. ß-receptor blockers and (or) ivabradine would be added in patients whose RHR were over 70 bpm. RHR after optimized medication adjustment was recorded during follow-up period. Results: One hundred and fifty patients were included in this study with average RHR (80.6±11.9) bpm. RHR was<70 bpm in 27.3% (41/150) patients at baseline and ß-receptor blockers was underused in 80.7% patients (88/109) whose RHR was>70 bpm. The overall RHR decreased to (73.1±10.4) bpm and percent of patients with RHR<70 bpm increased to 70.0% (105/150) after up-titration of ß-receptor blockers compared to baseline (χ2=52.958, P<0.001). Ivabradine was added in the rest 45 patients and RHR was<70 bpm in 43 out of 45 patients after ivabradine use. The overall RHR decreased to (67.1±2.7) bpm and percent of RHR<70 bpm significantly increased to 98.7% (148/150) (χ2=44.504, P<0.001 vs. up-titration of ß-receptor blockers only). Conclusion: RHR in CHF patients who received CIED therapy is not ideally controlled in this patient cohort, individual up-titration ofß-receptor blockers and ivabradine use may help to optimize RHR in these patients.

RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the significance of Twist2 in glioma and whether it is involved in the malignant transformation of glioma by epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Methods: Using immunohistochemical method detected the expression level of Twist2 in 60 cases of gliomas (including WHO grades Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ, each for 20 cases) and 20 cases of non-tumor brain tissues. Real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR and Western blot were used to detect the expression level of Twist2 mRNA and protein in 61 cases of fresh glioma tissue (WHO grade Ⅱ 16 cases, Ⅲ 21 cases, Ⅳ 24 cases) and 12 cases of adjacent tissues, and the expression levels of E-cadherin, N-cadherin and vimentin were also investigated in fresh glioma tissue. Results: Immunohistochemistry results showed that the percentages of Twist2 expression in glioma was 90%(54/60) compared with 30%(6/20) in non-tumor brain tissues(P<0.01). The percentages of Twist2 expression were 75% (15/20), 95% (19/20), and 100% (20/20) in the WHO gradesⅡ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ gliomas, respectively. WHO grades Ⅳ and Ⅲ were significantly higher than that of WHO grade Ⅱ (P<0.01). There was no significant difference between WHO grade Ⅳand WHO Ⅲ glioma (P>0.05). Real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR and Western blot showed that the expression level of Twist 2 in gliomas was significantly higher than that in para-cancerous tissues (P<0.01), and those in WHO grades Ⅳ and Ⅲ gliomas were significantly higher than that in WHO grade Ⅱ glioma (P<0.01). There was no significant difference between WHO grade Ⅳand grade Ⅲ glioma (P>0.05). Detection of key protein expression in EMT by Western blot displayed that the expression of E-cadherin was negatively associated with Twist2 in glioma (r=-0.972, P<0.01). The expression of N-cadherin and vimentin was positively associated with Twist2 in glioma(r=0.971, P<0.01; r=0.968, P<0.01). Conclusions: The expression of Twist2 in human glioma is positively correlated with the malignant grade of glioma, which may be involved in the malignant progression of glioma by EMT.

RESUMEN

Masses of ^{52g,52m}Co were measured for the first time with an accuracy of ∼10 keV, an unprecedented precision reached for short-lived nuclei in the isochronous mass spectrometry. Combining our results with the previous ß-γ measurements of ^{52}Ni, the T=2, J^{π}=0^{+} isobaric analog state (IAS) in ^{52}Co was newly assigned, questioning the conventional identification of IASs from the ß-delayed proton emissions. Using our energy of the IAS in ^{52}Co, the masses of the T=2 multiplet fit well into the isobaric multiplet mass equation. We find that the IAS in ^{52}Co decays predominantly via γ transitions while the proton emission is negligibly small. According to our large-scale shell model calculations, this phenomenon has been interpreted to be due to very low isospin mixing in the IAS.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to analyze the hospitalization costs of patients with intestinal polyps undergoing colonic polyp surgery and associated influencing factors and to explore the entry point of cost control and the way of fine management. PATIENTS AND METHODS: One year before (2021) and one year after (2022) the implementation of the Diagnosis Related Grouping (DRG), the patients receiving APC, CSP and EMR in GK39 (colonoscopy operation) group were included in a second Affiliated Hospital in Nanjing according to the Nanjing grouping scheme. Descriptive analysis method and multiple linear regression method were used for analysis. RESULTS: After the implementation of DRG in 2022, the average hospitalization cost of patients decreased by 19.46% compared with the same period last year. Before and after the implementation of DRG, medical technology costs accounted for the highest proportion of hospitalization costs. Age, hospitalization days, number of polyps, number of clamps and clinical pathway had statistically significant effects on hospitalization cost (p<0.05), among which hospitalization days, number of polyps, and number of clamps had the greatest impact on hospitalization cost, followed by age and clinical pathway. CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of DRG has a positive effect on guiding hospitalization cost control. It is suggested to realize accurate cost control by analyzing the cost structure of the disease group. Clinical pathway completion rate has a direct impact on the implementation effect of DRG, including cost control. It is suggested to refine clinical pathway management and achieve scientific cost control through continuous optimization and improvement of clinical pathway management.

RESUMEN

Understanding the sources and impact of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) on ozone formation is challenging when the traditional method does not account for their photochemical loss. In this study, online monitoring of 56 VOCs was carried out in summer and autumn during high ozone pollution episodes. The photochemical age method was used to evaluate the atmospheric chemical loss of VOCs and to analyze the effects on characteristics, sources, and ozone formation of VOC components. The initial concentrations during daytime were 5.12 ppbv and 4.49 ppbv higher than the observed concentrations in the summer and autumn, respectively. The positive matrix factorization (PMF) model identified 5 major emission sources. However, the omission of the chemical loss of VOCs led to underestimating the contributions of sources associated with highly reactive VOC components, such as those produced by biogenic emissions and solvent usage. Conversely it resulted in overestimating the contributions from VOC components with lower chemical activity such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) usage, vehicle emissions, and gasoline evaporation. Furthermore, the estimation of ozone formation may be underestimated when the atmospheric photochemical loss is not taken into account. The ozone formation potential (OFP) method and propylene-equivalent concentration method both underestimated ozone formation by 53.24 ppbv and 47.25 ppbc, respectively, in the summer, and by 40.34 ppbv and 26.37 ppbc, respectively, in the autumn. The determination of the ozone formation regime based on VOC chemical loss was more acceptable. In the summer, the ozone formation regime changed from the VOC-limited regime to the VOC-NOx transition regime, while in the autumn, the ozone formation regime changed from the strong VOC-limited regime to the weak VOC-limited regime. To obtain more thorough and precise conclusions, further monitoring and analysis studies will be conducted in the near future on a wider variety of VOC species such as oxygenated VOCs (OVOCs).

RESUMEN

Isochronous mass spectrometry has been applied to neutron-deficient 58Ni projectile fragments at the HIRFL-CSR facility in Lanzhou, China. Masses of a series of short-lived T(z)=-3/2 nuclides including 41Ti, 45Cr, 49Fe, and 53Ni have been measured with a precision of 20-40 keV. The new data enable us to test for the first time the isobaric multiplet mass equation (IMME) in fp-shell nuclei. We observe that the IMME is inconsistent with the generally accepted quadratic form for the A=53, T=3/2 quartet. RESUMEN

Mass excesses of short-lived A=2Z-1 nuclei (63)Ge, (65)As, (67)Se, and (71)Kr have been directly measured to be -46,921(37), -46,937(85), -46,580(67), and -46,320(141) keV, respectively. The deduced proton separation energy of -90(85) keV for (65)As shows that this nucleus is only slightly proton unbound. X-ray burst model calculations with the new mass excess of (65)As suggest that the majority of the reaction flow passes through (64)Ge via proton capture, indicating that (64)Ge is not a significant rp-process waiting point.

RESUMEN

The long lasting blue phosphorescence (LLP) and photostimulated luminescence (PSL) after ultraviolet light irradiation at room temperature in 12CaO 7Al2O3:xEu2+, yMn2+ (x = 0, 0.001; y = 0, 0.01) prepared by the chemical co-precipitation method were observed. It was shown that novel oxide 12CaO 7Al2O3:Eu2+, Mn2+ (C12A7:Eu2+, Mn2+) with unique nanocage structure can store energy when irradiated with 365 nm photons. And photon energy can be subsequently released by exposed to 980 nm light. The codopant Mn2+ enhances the intensity of the persistent phosphorescence and PSL due to the existence of more shallow and new deeper electron traps in C12A7: Eu2+, Mn2+. A model for energy storing and recovering and the detailed mechanism of PSL are presented through comparing with the luminescence properties of the co-doped C12A7:Eu2+, Mn2+ and C12A7:Eu2+.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the current prevalence of human soil-borne nematode infections in Yunnan province, so as to provide the scientific evidence for formulating the soil-borne nematodiasis control strategy in the province. METHODS: In 2015, a total of 20 survey sites were sampled in 10 counties (cities) of Yunnan Province using the stratified cluster random sampling method. Stool samples were collected from all local permanent residents at ages of one year and older in each survey site, and the soil-borne nematode eggs were identified using the modified Kato-Katz technique and the egg number was counted. In addition, the hookworm species was identified using the filter-paperculture method, and Enterobius vermicularis eggs were detected using the cellophane tape method in children at ages of 3 to 6 years. RESULTS: A total of 5 067 residents received stool examinations, and 950 residents were detected with soil-borne nematode infections, with an overall prevalence rate of 18.75%. The prevalence of Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichura and hookworm was 7.52%, 8.47% and 9.02%, respectively. Among 446 children detected using the cellophane tape method, 5 children were detected with E. vermicularis infections. Among the 160 residents with hookworm infections, there were 139 residents with Necator americanus infections (86.88%), 16 with A. duodenale infections (10.00%) and 5 with mixed infections (3.12%). Mild A. lumbricoides (67.98%, 259/381), T. trichura (88.58%, 380/429) and hookworm infections (94.53%, 432/457) were predominant. Among the four ecological zones, the highest prevalence of human soilborne nematode infections was found in the East Tibet-South Sichuan Ecological Zone (31.79%), and among the 10 survey counties (cities), the greatest prevalence was seen in Gongshan Derung and Nu Autonomous County (50.13%), while the lowest prevalence was found in Ninglang Yi Autonomous County (0.40%). The prevalence of human soil-borne nematode infections was 5.67% (43/759), 26.67% (610/2 287) and 14.70% (297/2 021) in high-, moderate- and low-economic-level regions, respectively. There were no significant differences in the prevalence of human soil-borne nematode infections in terms of ecological regions, survey counties (cities) or economic development levels (χ2 = 342.20, 814.60 and 201.34, all P < 0.05). There was no significantdifference in the prevalence of human soil-borne nematode infections between male (18.21%, 441/2 422) and female residents (19.24%, 509/2 645) (χ2 = 0.89, P > 0.05), and soil-borne nematode infections were detected in residents at all age groups, with the greatest prevalence found in residents at ages of 1 to 9 years (25.88%). In addition, the highest prevalence of soil-borne nematode infections was seen in residents with the Dulong Ethnic Minority (82.09%), in preschool children (25.06%) and in illiterate residents (24.80%), and there was no age-, ethnicity-, occupation- or education level-specific prevalence of soil-borne nematode infections detected (χ2 = 46.50, 1 016.96, 36.33 and 52.43, all P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of human soil-borne nematode infections remains high in Yunnan Province. The management of soil-borne nematodiasis requires to be reinforced among low-age children, farmers, old people and residents with low educations levels or ethnic groups.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the endemic situation of schistosomiasis in national surveillance sites of Zhejiang Province, so as to provide the scientific evidence for formulating the new schistosomiasis surveillance program and consolidating schistosomiasis elimination achievements. METHODS: A total of 54 to 55 national surveillance sites and 6 risk monitoring sites were assigned in historical endemic regions of Zhejiang Province from 2015 to 2019, where the Schistosoma japonicum infections in humans, livestock, snails and wild feces were monitored. All data pertaining to the surveillance results were descriptively analyzed. RESULTS: There were 34 530 person-time local residents receiving serological screening for S. japonicum infections in national surveillance sites of Zhejiang Province from 2015 to 2019, and the seroprevalance of S. japonicum infections were 0.29% to 0.68%; however, no egg-positives were detected. During the period from 2015 to 2019, there were 62 086 person-time mobile populations receiving serological screening for S. japonicum infections in national surveillance sites of Zhejiang Province, and the seroprevalance of S. japonicum infections were 0.32% to 0.56%; additionally, there were 27 egg-positives identified, including 3 imported cases with schistosomiasis haematobia and one case with acute schistosomiasis japonica, indicating that the adjusted prevalence of Schistosoma infections were 0.01% to 0.07% among mobile populations. A total of 829 livestock were examined for S. japonicum infections, with no positives detected. There were 10.55 hm2 and 2.89 hm2 snail habitats found in national surveillance sites and risk monitoring sites of Zhejiang Province during the 5-year period, respectively; however, no S. japonicum infections were identified in snails. Moreover, a total of 305 wild feces were tested for S. japonicum infections, and no egg-positives were identified. CONCLUSIONS: The schistosomiasis elimination achievement have been consolidated in Zhejiang Province; however, the risk factors of re-emerging schistosomiasis have not been completely eliminated, such as residual snails and imported schistosomiasis cases. Further surveillance and control activities of snails and the source of S. japonicum infections should be reinforced.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Recent researches have proved that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play an important role in tumorigenesis. In this research, lncRNA CCAT5 was explored to identify its role in the development of colorectal cancer (CRC). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Real time-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was utilized to measure CCAT5 expression of CRC tissues. Besides, function assays including wound healing assay and transwell assay were conducted. Furthermore, RT-qPCR and Western blot assay were used to explore the underlying mechanism. RESULTS: By comparison with CCAT5 expression in adjacent tissues, the CCAT5 expression level was significantly higher in CRC samples. Moreover, after CCAT5 was downregulated, cell migration and cell invasion of CRC cells were suppressed. Besides, after knockdown of CCAT5, the mRNA and protein expression of STAT3 was repressed. Furthermore, it was found that STAT3 expression was positively correlated to CCAT5 expression in CRC tissues. CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest that CCAT5 could promote cell migration and invasion of CRC by upregulating STAT3, which may offer a potential therapeutic target in CRC.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To explore the correlation of the suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) gene polymorphism with childhood asthma. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 204 asthma children (observation group) and 235 healthy children (control group) were enrolled. General clinical information of enrolled subjects was collected. Inflammatory factors and pulmonary function test indexes in each subject were examined. Moreover, the polymorphism of SOCS3 gene rs9914220 was detected with the TaqMan-MGB probe. RESULTS: Asthma children in the observation group exhibited higher levels of interleukin-4 (IL-4), IL-17, and IL-33 than those of the control group (p<0.05). The forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), FEV1/forced vital capacity (FVC) ratio (%), peak expiratory flow (PEF), and FVC in the observation group were lower than those in the control group. However, the residual volume (RV), and RV/total lung capacity (TLC) ratio were higher in observation group than those in control group (p<0.05). Distribution frequency of the genotypes varied a lot between the two groups (p<0.05). However, we did not observe a significant difference in SOCS3 alleles between the two groups (p>0.05). According to the analysis of the genetic model, there were differences in dominant and cumulative models between the two groups (p<0.05), whereas the recessive model was not different between the two groups (p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Levels of inflammatory factors and pulmonary functions help to effectively monitor the progression of childhood asthma, thus increasing the clinical diagnosis rate. The polymorphism of the SOCS3 gene rs9914220 site is correlated with the onset of childhood asthma.
