Soils are the foundation of all terrestrial ecosystems1. However, unlike for plants and animals, a global assessment of hotspots for soil nature conservation is still lacking2. This hampers our ability to establish nature conservation priorities for the multiple dimensions that support the soil system: from soil biodiversity to ecosystem services. Here, to identify global hotspots for soil nature conservation, we performed a global field survey that includes observations of biodiversity (archaea, bacteria, fungi, protists and invertebrates) and functions (critical for six ecosystem services) in 615 composite samples of topsoil from a standardized survey in all continents. We found that each of the different ecological dimensions of soils-that is, species richness (alpha diversity, measured as amplicon sequence variants), community dissimilarity and ecosystem services-peaked in contrasting regions of the planet, and were associated with different environmental factors. Temperate ecosystems showed the highest species richness, whereas community dissimilarity peaked in the tropics, and colder high-latitudinal ecosystems were identified as hotspots of ecosystem services. These findings highlight the complexities that are involved in simultaneously protecting multiple ecological dimensions of soil. We further show that most of these hotspots are not adequately covered by protected areas (more than 70%), and are vulnerable in the context of several scenarios of global change. Our global estimation of priorities for soil nature conservation highlights the importance of accounting for the multidimensionality of soil biodiversity and ecosystem services to conserve soils for future generations.

The myophage possesses a contractile tail that penetrates its host cell envelope. Except for investigations on the bacteriophage T4 with a rather complicated structure, the assembly pattern and tail contraction mechanism of myophage remain largely unknown. Here, we present the fine structure of a freshwater Myoviridae cyanophage Pam3, which has an icosahedral capsid of ~680 Å in diameter, connected via a three-section neck to an 840-Å-long contractile tail, ending with a three-module baseplate composed of only six protein components. This simplified baseplate consists of a central hub-spike surrounded by six wedge heterotriplexes, to which twelve tail fibers are covalently attached via disulfide bonds in alternating upward and downward configurations. In vitro reduction assays revealed a putative redox-dependent mechanism of baseplate assembly and tail sheath contraction. These findings establish a minimal myophage that might become a user-friendly chassis phage in synthetic biology.

Polar metals have recently garnered increasing interest because of their promising functionalities. Here we report the experimental realization of an intrinsic coexisting ferromagnetism, polar distortion and metallicity in quasi-two-dimensional Ca3Co3O8. This material crystallizes with alternating stacking of oxygen tetrahedral CoO4 monolayers and octahedral CoO6 bilayers. The ferromagnetic metallic state is confined within the quasi-two-dimensional CoO6 layers, and the broken inversion symmetry arises simultaneously from the Co displacements. The breaking of both spatial-inversion and time-reversal symmetries, along with their strong coupling, gives rise to an intrinsic magnetochiral anisotropy with exotic magnetic field-free non-reciprocal electrical resistivity. An extraordinarily robust topological Hall effect persists over a broad temperature-magnetic field phase space, arising from dipole-induced Rashba spin-orbit coupling. Our work not only provides a rich platform to explore the coupling between polarity and magnetism in a metallic system, with extensive potential applications, but also defines a novel design strategy to access exotic correlated electronic states.

Noncolinear spin textures, including chiral stripes and skyrmions, have shown great potential in spintronics. Basic configurations of spin textures are either Bloch or Néel types, and the intermediate hybrid type has rarely been reported. A major challenge in identifying hybrid spin textures is to quantitatively determine the hybrid angle, especially in ferrimagnets with weak net magnetization. Here, we develop an approach to quantify magnetic parameters, including chirality, saturation magnetization, domain wall width, and hybrid angle with sub-5 nm spatial resolution, based on Lorentz four-dimensional scanning transmission electron microscopy (Lorentz 4D-STEM). We find strong nanometer-scale variations in the hybrid angle and domain wall width within structurally and chemically homogeneous FeGd ferrimagnetic films. These variations fluctuate during different magnetization circles, revealing intrinsic local magnetization inhomogeneities. Furthermore, hybrid skyrmions can also be nucleated in FeGd films. These analyses demonstrate that the Lorentz 4D-STEM is a quantitative tool for exploring complex spin textures.

Foodborne illnesses, particularly those caused by Salmonella enterica with its extensive array of over 2600 serovars, present a significant public health challenge. Therefore, prompt and precise identification of S. enterica serovars is essential for clinical relevance, which facilitates the understanding of S. enterica transmission routes and the determination of outbreak sources. Classical serotyping methods via molecular subtyping and genomic markers currently suffer from various limitations, such as labour intensiveness, time consumption, etc. Therefore, there is a pressing need to develop new diagnostic techniques. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that can generate Raman spectra, based on which rapid and accurate discrimination of bacterial pathogens could be achieved. To generate SERS spectra, a Raman spectrometer is needed to detect and collect signals, which are divided into two types: the expensive benchtop spectrometer and the inexpensive handheld spectrometer. In this study, we compared the performance of two Raman spectrometers to discriminate four closely associated S. enterica serovars, that is, S. enterica subsp. enterica serovar dublin, enteritidis, typhi and typhimurium. Six machine learning algorithms were applied to analyse these SERS spectra. The support vector machine (SVM) model showed the highest accuracy for both handheld (99.97%) and benchtop (99.38%) Raman spectrometers. This study demonstrated that handheld Raman spectrometers achieved similar prediction accuracy as benchtop spectrometers when combined with machine learning models, providing an effective solution for rapid, accurate and cost-effective identification of closely associated S. enterica serovars.

A concise enantioselective total synthesis of (-)-daphenylline, a hexacyclic Daphniphyllum alkaloid with a unique benzene ring, was achieved in 14 steps. The synthesis commences with two chiral stereocenters, C2 and C18, readily installed via Carreira's Ir/amine dual-catalyzed allylation. The allylic bridgehead amine 6 was rapidly prepared through Wickens' photoredox-catalyzed hydrocarboxylation of olefin and CuBr2-catalyzed α-amination of ketone. The tetracycle 4 was formed via Pd-catalyzed reductive Heck reaction or, more concisely, by Krische's Rh-catalyzed reductive 1,6-enyne cyclization. In this synthesis, newly reported Wickens' photoredox-catalyzed hydrocarboxylation was used twice, and Friedel-Crafts acylation thrice.

BACKGROUND: The role of circRNAs in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression remains unclear. CircPIAS1 (circBase ID: hsa_circ_0007088) was identified as overexpressed in HCC cases through bioinformatics analysis. This study aimed to investigate the oncogenic properties and mechanisms of circPIAS1 in HCC development. METHODS: Functional analyses were conducted to assess circPIAS1's impact on HCC cell proliferation, migration, and ferroptosis. Xenograft mouse models were employed to evaluate circPIAS1's effects on tumor growth and pulmonary metastasis in vivo. Bioinformatics analysis, RNA immunoprecipitation, and luciferase reporter assays were utilized to elucidate the molecular pathways influenced by circPIAS1. Additional techniques, including RNA pulldown, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), qPCR, and western blotting, were used to further explore the underlying mechanisms. RESULTS: CircPIAS1 expression was elevated in HCC tissues and cells. Silencing circPIAS1 suppressed HCC cell proliferation and migration both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanically, circPIAS1 overexpression inhibited ferroptosis by competitively binding to miR-455-3p, leading to upregulation of Nuclear Protein 1 (NUPR1). Furthermore, NUPR1 promoted FTH1 transcription, enhancing iron storage in HCC cells and conferring resistance to ferroptosis. Treatment with ZZW-115, an NUPR1 inhibitor, reversed the tumor-promoting effects of circPIAS1 and sensitized HCC cells to lenvatinib. CONCLUSION: This study highlights the critical role of circPIAS1 in HCC progression through modulation of ferroptosis. Targeting the circPIAS1/miR-455-3p/NUPR1/FTH1 regulatory axis may represent a promising therapeutic strategy for HCC.

The neuropsychiatric symptoms are common in Wilson's disease (WD) patients. However, it remains unclear about the associated functional brain networks. In this study, source localization-based functional connectivity analysis of close-eye resting-state electroencephalography (EEG) were implemented to assess the characteristics of functional networks in 17 WD patients with neurological involvements and 17 healthy controls (HCs). The weighted phase-lag index (wPLI) was subsequently calculated in source space across five different frequency bands and the resulting connectivity matrix was transformed into a weighted graph whose structure was measured by five graphical analysis indicators, which were finally correlated with clinical scores. Compared to HCs, WD patients revealed disconnected sub-networks in delta, theta and alpha bands. Moreover, WD patients exhibited significantly reduced global clustering coefficients and small-worldness in all five frequency bands. In WD group, the severity of neurological symptoms and structural brain abnormalities were significantly correlated with disrupted functional networks. In conclusion, our study demonstrated that functional network deficits in WD can reflect the severity of their neurological symptoms and structural brain abnormalities. Resting-state EEG may be used as a marker of brain injury in WD.

BACKGROUND: The global dementia prevalence is surging, necessitating research into contributing factors. We aimed to investigate the association between metabolic syndrome (MetS), its components, serum uric acid (SUA) levels, and dementia risk. METHODS: Our prospective study comprised 466,788 participants without pre-existing MetS from the UK Biobank. We confirmed dementia diagnoses based on the ICD-10 criteria (F00-03). To evaluate the dementia risk concerning MetS, its components, and SUA levels, we applied Cox proportional hazards models, while adjusting for demographic factors. RESULTS: Over a median follow-up of 12.7 years, we identified 6845 dementia cases. Individuals with MetS had a 25% higher risk of all-cause dementia (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.25, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.19-1.31). The risk increased with the number of MetS components including central obesity, dyslipidemia for high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, hypertension, hyperglycemia, and dyslipidemia for triglycerides. Particularly for those with all five components (HR = 1.76, 95% CI = 1.51-2.04). Dyslipidemia for HDL cholesterol, hypertension, hyperglycemia, and dyslipidemia for triglycerides were independently associated with elevated dementia risk (p < 0.01). MetS was further linked to an increased risk of all-cause dementia (11%) and vascular dementia (VD, 50%) among individuals with SUA levels exceeding 400 µmol/L (all-cause dementia: HR = 1.11, 95% CI = 1.02-1.21; VD: HR = 1.50, 95% CI = 1.28-1.77). CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides robust evidence supporting the association between MetS, its components, and dementia risk. These findings emphasize the importance of considering MetS and SUA levels in assessing dementia risk, offering valuable insights for prevention and management strategies.

BACKGROUND: Periodontitis results from host-microbe dysbiosis and the resultant dysregulated immunoinflammatory response. Importantly, it closely links to numerous systemic comorbidities, and perplexingly contributes to adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs). Currently, there are limited studies on the distal consequences of periodontitis via oral-gut axis in pregnant women. This study investigated the integrative microbiome-metabolome profiles through multi-omics approaches in first-trimester pregnant women and explored the translational potentials. METHODS: We collected samples of subgingival plaques, saliva, sera and stool from 54 Chinese pregnant women at the first trimester, including 31 maternal periodontitis (Perio) subjects and 23 Non-Perio controls. By integrating 16S rRNA sequencing, untargeted metabolomics and clinical traits, we explored the oral-gut microbial and metabolic connection resulting from periodontitis among early pregnant women. RESULTS: We demonstrated a novel bacterial distinguisher Coprococcus from feces of periodontitis subjects in association with subgingival periodontopathogens, being different from other fecal genera in Lachnospiraceae family. The ratio of fecal Coprococcus to Lachnoclostridium could discriminate between Perio and Non-Perio groups as the ratio of subgingival Porphyromonas to Rothia did. Furthermore, there were differentially abundant fecal metabolic features pivotally enriched in periodontitis subjects like L-urobilin and kynurenic acid. We revealed a periodontitis-oriented integrative network cluster, which was centered with fecal Coprococcus and L-urobilin as well as serum triglyceride. CONCLUSIONS: The current findings about the notable influence of periodontitis on fecal microbiota and metabolites in first-trimester pregnant women via oral-gut axis signify the importance and translational implications of preconceptional oral/periodontal healthcare for enhancing maternal wellbeing.

BACKGROUND: Definitive chemoradiotherapy is recommended as the primary treatment for cervical esophageal carcinoma (CEC). However, local control rates remain unsatisfactory for some patients. Therefore, in this study, we introduced a new treatment paradigm for individuals with CEC, customizing the choice between subsequent local treatments based on their response to induction chemotherapy and immunotherapy. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Induction treatment comprised two to four cycles of chemotherapy combined with programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitors. Patients achieving complete response (CR) or near CR after induction treatment underwent definitive chemoradiotherapy (dCRT), while those not achieving CR or near CR underwent surgical resection. RESULTS: Among the 40 eligible patients, 14 (35.0%) achieved a CR or near CR after induction treatment. Of the ten patients achieving a CR or near CR, one developed an esophageal fistula after dCRT (10.0%). Among the eight non-CR or non-near CR patients receiving chemoradiotherapy, six developed esophageal fistula (75.0%). Among the 26 patients who did not achieve CR or near CR after induction treatment, the 1-year cancer specific survival (CSS) rates were 93.3% [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.815-1%] for the 18 patients in the surgery group, and 71.4% (95% CI 0.447-1%) for the 8 patients in the chemoradiotherapy group (p = 0.027). The overall laryngeal preservation rate was 85.0% (34/40), with a functional laryngeal preservation rate of 77.5% (31/40). CONCLUSION: The approach consisting of combined immunotherapy and chemotherapy successfully identified patients who were responding well to induction treatment and who were sensitive to radiotherapy, for chemoradiotherapy; thus, improving laryngeal preservation rates. In addition, it also identified patients with poor responses to induction treatment and radiotherapy, for timely surgery; hence, reducing radiotherapy complications and enhancing survival.

Plant-soil biodiversity interactions are fundamental for the functioning of terrestrial ecosystems. Yet, the existence of a set of globally distributed topsoil microbial and small invertebrate organisms consistently associated with land plants (i.e., their consistent soil-borne microbiome), together with the environmental preferences and functional capabilities of these organisms, remains unknown. We conducted a standardized field survey under 150 species of land plants, including 58 species of bryophytes and 92 of vascular plants, across 124 locations from all continents. We found that, despite the immense biodiversity of soil organisms, the land plants evaluated only shared a small fraction (less than 1%) of all microbial and invertebrate taxa that were present across contrasting climatic and soil conditions and vegetation types. These consistent taxa were dominated by generalist decomposers and phagotrophs and their presence was positively correlated with the abundance of functional genes linked to mineralization. Finally, we showed that crossing environmental thresholds in aridity (aridity index of 0.65, i.e., the transition from mesic to dry ecosystems), soil pH (5.5; i.e., the transition from acidic to strongly acidic soils), and carbon (less than 2%, the lower limit of fertile soils) can result in drastic disruptions in the associations between land plants and soil organisms, with potential implications for the delivery of soil ecosystem processes under ongoing global environmental change.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs), with their ability of self-renewal, unlimited proliferation, and multi-directional differentiation, contribute to tumorigenesis, metastasis, recurrence, and resistance to conventional therapy and immunotherapy. Eliminating CSCs has long been thought to prevent tumorigenesis. Although known to negatively impact tumor prognosis, research revealed the unexpected role of iron metabolism as a key regulator of CSCs. This review explores recent advances in iron metabolism in CSCs, conventional cancer therapies targeting iron biochemistry, therapeutic resistance in these cells, and potential treatment options that could overcome them. These findings provide important insights into therapeutic modalities against intractable cancers.

We use resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) at the Fe-L_{3} edge to study the spin excitations of uniaxial-strained and unstrained FeSe_{1-x}S_{x} (0≤x≤0.21) samples. The measurements on unstrained samples reveal dispersive spin excitations in all doping levels, which show only minor doping dependence in energy dispersion, lifetime, and intensity, indicating that high-energy spin excitations are only marginally affected by sulfur doping. RIXS measurements on uniaxial-strained samples reveal that the high-energy spin-excitation anisotropy observed previously in FeSe is also present in the doping range 0200 K in x=0.18 and reaches a maximum around the nematic quantum critical doping (x_{c}≈0.17). Since the spin-excitation anisotropy directly reflects the existence of nematic spin correlations, our results indicate that high-energy nematic spin correlations pervade the regime of nematicity in the phase diagram and are enhanced by the nematic quantum criticality. These results emphasize the essential role of spin fluctuations in driving electronic nematicity and highlight the capability of uniaxial strain in tuning spin excitations in quantum materials hosting strong magnetoelastic coupling and electronic nematicity.

BACKGROUND: Oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma is one of the most commonly diagnosed carcinomas in China, and postoperative radiotherapy plays an important role in improving the prognosis of patients. Carcinomas in different locations of the oesophagus could have different patterns of lymph node metastasis after surgery. METHODS: In this multicentric retrospective study, we enrolled patients with middle thoracic oesophageal squamous cell carcinomas from 3 cancer centres, and none of the patients underwent radiotherapy before or after surgery. We analysed the lymph node recurrence rates in different stations to explore the postoperative lymphatic recurrence pattern. RESULTS: From January 1st, 2014, to December 31st, 2019, 132 patients met the criteria, and were included in this study. The lymphatic recurrence rate was 62.1%. Pathological stage (P = 0.032) and lymphadenectomy method (P = 0.006) were significant predictive factors of lymph node recurrence. The recurrence rates in the supraclavicular, upper and lower paratracheal stations of lymph nodes were 32.6%, 28.8% and 16.7%, respectively, showing a high incidence. The recurrence rate of the subcarinal node station was 9.8%, while 8.3% (upper, middle and lower) thoracic para-oesophageal nodes had recurrences. CONCLUSIONS: We recommend including the supraclavicular, upper and lower paratracheal stations of lymph nodes in the postoperative radiation field in middle thoracic oesophageal carcinomas. Subcarinal station is also potentially high-risk, while whether to include thoracic para-oesophageal or abdominal nodes needs careful consideration.

BACKGROUND: Dominant dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DDEB) is characterized by trauma-induced blisters and, in some individuals, intense pruritus. Precisely what causes itch in DDEB and optimal ways to reduce it have not been fully determined. OBJECTIVES: To characterize DDEB skin transcriptomes to identify therapeutic targets to reduce pruritus in patients. METHODS: Using bulk RNA sequencing, we evaluated affected and unaffected skin biopsy samples from six patients with DDEB (all with the very itchy pruriginosa subtype) and four healthy individuals. Single-cell transcriptomes of affected (n = 2) and unaffected (n = 1) DDEB skin and healthy skin (n = 2) were obtained. Dupilumab treatment was provided for three patients. RESULTS: The skin bulk transcriptome showed significant enrichment of T helper (Th)1/2 and Th17 pathways in affected DDEB skin compared with nonlesional DDEB skin and healthy skin. Single-cell transcriptomics showed an association of glycolytically active GATA3+ Th2 cells in affected DDEB skin. Treatment with dupilumab in three people with DDEB led to significantly reduced visual analogue scale (VAS) itch scores after 12 weeks (mean VAS 3.83) compared with pretreatment (mean VAS 7.83). Bulk RNAseq and quantitative polymerase chain reaction showed that healthy skin and dupilumab-treated epidermolysis bullosa (EB) pruriginosa skin have similar transcriptomic profiles and reduced Th1/Th2 and Th17 pathway enrichment. CONCLUSIONS: Single-cell RNAseq helps define an enhanced DDEB-associated Th2 profile and rationalizes drug repurposing of anti-Th2 drugs in treating DDEB pruritus.


Dominant dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DDEB) is a rare inherited skin disease that causes fragile skin that blisters easily, often triggered by minor injuries. These blisters are accompanied by intense itching, which can be distressing. The underlying cause of DDEB lies in genetic mutations in a gene called COL7A1. This gene encodes 'type VII collagen', a protein crucial for attaching the outer skin layer (epidermis) to the layer beneath (dermis). Although the genetic basis of DDEB is understood, the causes of itch are not known. As well as this, effective treatments for DDEB are lacking, which has driven scientists to explore innovative approaches like repurposing existing drugs. Drug repurposing involves using medications that have already been approved for other health conditions. One such drug is dupilumab, which is used for severe atopic dermatitis (eczema). Dupilumab targets immune cells called Th2 cells, which play a role in inflammation and allergies. While dupilumab has shown promise in relieving DDEB itching, the way it works in this condition is unclear. This study, carried out by a group of researchers in Taiwan, looked at gene expression in DDEB-affected and unaffected skin, and compared it to gene expression in healthy skin samples. We found heightened activity in Th2 immune cells and abnormal gene signals related to itching, similar to atopic dermatitis. These findings support using dupilumab and other anti-inflammatory drugs to alleviate itching in DDEB. Clinical trials will be crucial to evaluate the effectiveness of these drugs for managing DDEB symptoms. This research opens doors for enhanced treatment options and improving the quality of life of people living with DDEB.

Recombinant human interleukin-2 (rhIL-2) represents one of the most difficult-to-produce cytokines in E. coli due to its extreme hydrophobicity and high tendency to formation of inclusion bodies. Refolding of rhIL-2 inclusion bodies always represents cumbersome downstream processes and low production efficiency. Herein, we disclosed a fusion strategy for efficiently soluble expression and facile production of rhIL-2 in E. coli Origami B (DE3) host. A two-tandem SUMO fusion partner (His-2SUMO) with a unique SUMO protease cleavage site at C-terminus was devised to fuse with the N-terminus of rhIL-2 and the fusion protein (His-2SUMO-rhIL-2) was almost completely expressed in a soluble from. The fusion partner could be efficiently removed by Ulp1 cleavage and the rhIL-2 was simply produced by a two-step Ni-NTA affinity chromatography with a considerable purity and whole recovery. The eventually obtained rhIL-2 was well-characterized and the results showed that the purified rhIL-2 exhibits a compact and ordered structure. Although the finally obtained rhIL-2 exists in a soluble aggregates form and the aggregation probably has been occurred during expression stage, the soluble rhIL-2 aggregates remain exhibit comparable bioactivity with the commercially available rhIL-2 drug formulation.

Recombinant human collagens have attracted intensive interest in the past two decades, demonstrating considerable potential in medicine, tissue engineering, and cosmetics. Several humanized recombinant collagens have been produced, exhibiting similar characteristics as the native species. To get insight into the structural and bioactive properties of different parts of collagen, in this study, the segment of Gly300-Asp329 of type III collagen was first adopted and repeated 18 times to prepare a novel recombinant collagen (named rhCLA). RhCLA was successfully expressed in E. coli, and a convenient separation procedure was established through reasonably combining alkaline precipitation and acid precipitation, yielding crude rhCLA with a purity exceeding 90%. Additionally, a polishing purification step utilizing cation exchange chromatography was developed, achieving rhCLA purity surpassing 98% and an overall recovery of approximately 120 mg/L culture. Simultaneously, the contents of endotoxin, nucleic acids, and host proteins were reduced to extremely low levels. This fragmented type III collagen displayed a triple-helical structure and gel-forming capability at low temperatures. Distinct fibrous morphology was also observed through TEM analysis. In cell experiments, rhCLA exhibited excellent biocompatibility and cell adhesion properties. These results provide valuable insights for functional studies of type III collagen and a reference approach for the large-scale production of recombinant collagens.

This study aimed to explore the combined association between the dietary antioxidant quality score (DAQS) and leisure-time physical activity on sleep patterns in cancer survivors. Data of cancer survivors were extracted from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) database in 2007-2014 in this cross-sectional study. Weighted multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the association of DAQS and leisure-time physical activity on sleep patterns. The combined association was also assessed in subgroups of participants based on age, and use of painkillers and antidepressants. Among the eligible participants, 1,133 had unhealthy sleep patterns. After adjusting for covariates, compared to low DAQS level combined with leisure-time physical activity level <600 MET·min/week, high DAQS level combined with leisure-time physical activity ≥600 MET·min/week was associated with lower odds of unhealthy sleep patterns (OR=0.41, 95%CI: 0.23-0.72). Additionally, the association of high DAQS level combined with high leisure-time physical activity with low odds of unhealthy sleep patterns was also significant in <65 years old (OR=0.30, 95%CI: 0.13-0.70), non-painkiller (OR=0.39, 95%CI: 0.22-0.71), non-antidepressant (OR=0.49, 95%CI: 0.26-0.91) and antidepressant (OR=0.11, 95%CI: 0.02-0.50) subgroups. DAQS and leisure-time physical activity had a combined association on sleep patterns in cancer survivors. However, the causal associations of dietary nutrient intake and physical activity with sleep patterns in cancer survivors needs further clarification.

The first hydride-doped Pd/Ag superatoms stabilized by selenolates are reported: [PdHAg19(dsep)12] [dsep = Se2P(OiPr)2] 1 and [PdHAg20(dsep)12]+ 2. 1 was derived from the targeted transformation of [PdHAg19(dtp)12] [dtp = S2P(OiPr)2] by ligand exchange, whereas 2 was obtained from the addition of trifluoroacetic acid to 1, resulting in a symmetric redistribution of the capping silver atoms. The transformations are all achieved while retaining an 8-electron superatomic configuration. VT-NMR attests to the good stability of the NCs in solution, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals the crucial role that the interstitial hydride plays in directing the position of the capping silver atoms. The total structures are reported alongside their electronic and optical properties. 1 and 2 are phosphorescent with a lifetime of 73 and 84 µs at 77 K, respectively. The first antibacterial activity data for superatomic bimetallic Pd/Ag nanoclusters are also reported.
