RESUMEN

Next-generation light-emitting displays on skin should be soft, stretchable and bright1-7. Previously reported stretchable light-emitting devices were mostly based on inorganic nanomaterials, such as light-emitting capacitors, quantum dots or perovskites6-11. They either require high operating voltage or have limited stretchability and brightness, resolution or robustness under strain. On the other hand, intrinsically stretchable polymer materials hold the promise of good strain tolerance12,13. However, realizing high brightness remains a grand challenge for intrinsically stretchable light-emitting diodes. Here we report a material design strategy and fabrication processes to achieve stretchable all-polymer-based light-emitting diodes with high brightness (about 7,450 candela per square metre), current efficiency (about 5.3 candela per ampere) and stretchability (about 100 per cent strain). We fabricate stretchable all-polymer light-emitting diodes coloured red, green and blue, achieving both on-skin wireless powering and real-time displaying of pulse signals. This work signifies a considerable advancement towards high-performance stretchable displays.

RESUMEN

Skin-like intrinsically stretchable soft electronic devices are essential to realize next-generation remote and preventative medicine for advanced personal healthcare1-4. The recent development of intrinsically stretchable conductors and semiconductors has enabled highly mechanically robust and skin-conformable electronic circuits or optoelectronic devices2,5-10. However, their operating frequencies have been limited to less than 100 hertz, which is much lower than that required for many applications. Here we report intrinsically stretchable diodes-based on stretchable organic and nanomaterials-capable of operating at a frequency as high as 13.56 megahertz. This operating frequency is high enough for the wireless operation of soft sensors and electrochromic display pixels using radiofrequency identification in which the base-carrier frequency is 6.78 megahertz or 13.56 megahertz. This was achieved through a combination of rational material design and device engineering. Specifically, we developed a stretchable anode, cathode, semiconductor and current collector that can satisfy the strict requirements for high-frequency operation. Finally, we show the operational feasibility of our diode by integrating it with a stretchable sensor, electrochromic display pixel and antenna to realize a stretchable wireless tag. This work is an important step towards enabling enhanced functionalities and capabilities for skin-like wearable electronics.

RESUMEN

Two-dimensional conjugated polymers (2DCPs), composed of multiple strands of linear conjugated polymers with extended in-plane π-conjugation, are emerging crystalline semiconducting polymers for organic (opto)electronics. They are represented by two-dimensional π-conjugated covalent organic frameworks, which typically suffer from poor π-conjugation and thus low charge carrier mobilities. Here we overcome this limitation by demonstrating two semiconducting phthalocyanine-based poly(benzimidazobenzophenanthroline)-ladder-type 2DCPs (2DCP-MPc, with M = Cu or Ni), which are constructed from octaaminophthalocyaninato metal(II) and naphthalenetetracarboxylic dianhydride by polycondensation under solvothermal conditions. The 2DCP-MPcs exhibit optical bandgaps of ~1.3 eV with highly delocalized π-electrons. Density functional theory calculations unveil strongly dispersive energy bands with small electron-hole reduced effective masses of ~0.15m0 for the layer-stacked 2DCP-MPcs. Terahertz spectroscopy reveals the band transport of Drude-type free carriers in 2DCP-MPcs with exceptionally high sum mobility of electrons and holes of ~970 cm2 V-1 s-1 at room temperature, surpassing that of the reported linear conjugated polymers and 2DCPs. This work highlights the critical role of effective conjugation in enhancing the charge transport properties of 2DCPs and the great potential of high-mobility 2DCPs for future (opto)electronics.

RESUMEN

Crop water stress index (CWSI) has been widely used in soil moisture monitoring. However, the influence of the time lag effect between canopy temperature and air temperature on the accuracy of soil moisture monitoring with different CWSI models has not been further investigated. Therefore, based on the continuous record of canopy temperature and air temperature, this study explored the influence of canopy-air temperature hysteresis on the diagnosis of soil moisture with three CWSI models (CWSIT-theoretical, CWSIE-empirical, CWSIH-hybrid). The results show (1) the peak time of canopy temperature was ahead of that of air temperature, and the lag time varied under different soil moisture conditions. When the soil moisture was seriously deficient, the lag time decreased. However, from jointing-heading period to filling-ripening period, the lag time became longer. (2) The values of CWSIT, CWSIE, and CWSIH decreased when the time lag effect was considered. In jointing-heading period, heading-filling period, and filling-ripening period, CWSIT had the highest accuracy in soil moisture monitoring without the consideration of the time lag effect. When the time lag effect was considered, the monitoring accuracy of CWSIE and CWSIH was greatly improved and higher than that of CWSIT, while that of CWSIT was reduced. The findings provided a basis for further improving the accuracy of soil moisture monitoring with CWSI models.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Although traditional craniotomy (TC) surgery has failed to show benefits for the functional outcome of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). However, a minimally invasive hematoma removal plan to avoid white matter fiber damage may be a safer and more feasible surgical approach, which may improve the prognosis of ICH. We conducted a historical cohort study on the use of multimodal image fusion-assisted neuroendoscopic surgery (MINS) for the treatment of ICH, and compared its safety and effectiveness with traditional methods. METHODS: This is a historical cohort study involving 241 patients with cerebral hemorrhage. Divided into MINS group and TC group based on surgical methods. Multimodal images (CT skull, CT angiography, and white matter fiber of MRI diffusion-tensor imaging) were fused into 3 dimensional images for preoperative planning and intraoperative guidance of endoscopic hematoma removal in the MINS group. Clinical features, operative efficiency, perioperative complications, and prognoses between 2 groups were compared. Normally distributed data were analyzed using t-test of 2 independent samples, Non-normally distributed data were compared using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Meanwhile categorical data were analyzed via the Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. All statistical tests were two-sided, and p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: A total of 42 patients with ICH were enrolled, who underwent TC surgery or MINS. Patients who underwent MINS had shorter operative time (p < 0.001), less blood loss (p < 0.001), better hematoma evacuation (p = 0.003), and a shorter stay in the intensive care unit (p = 0.002) than patients who underwent TC. Based on clinical characteristics and analysis of perioperative complications, there is no significant difference between the 2 surgical methods. Modified Rankin scale scores at 180 days were better in the MINS than in the TC group (p = 0.014). CONCLUSIONS: Compared with TC for the treatment of ICH, MINS is safer and more efficient in cleaning ICH, which improved the prognosis of the patients. In the future, a larger sample size clinical trial will be needed to evaluate its efficacy.

RESUMEN

The pursuit of fabricating high-performance graphene films has aroused considerable attention due to their potential for practical applications. However, developing both stretchable and tough graphene films remains a formidable challenge. To address this issue, we herein introduce mechanical bond to comprehensively improve the mechanical properties of graphene films, utilizing [2]rotaxane as the bridging unit. Under external force, the [2]rotaxane cross-link undergoes intramolecular motion, releasing hidden chain and increasing the interlayer slip distance between graphene nanosheets. Compared with graphene films without [2]rotaxane cross-linking, the presence of mechanical bond not only boosted the strength of graphene films (247.3 vs 74.8 MPa) but also markedly promoted the tensile strain (23.6 vs 10.2 %) and toughness (23.9 vs 4.0 MJ/m3). Notably, the achieved tensile strain sets a record high and the toughness surpasses most reported results, rendering the graphene films suitable for applications as flexible electrodes. Even when the films were stretched within a 20 % strain and repeatedly bent vertically, the light-emitting diodes maintained an on-state with little changes in brightness. Additionally, the film electrodes effectively actuated mechanical joints, enabling uninterrupted grasping movements. Therefore, the study holds promise for expanding the application of graphene films and simultaneously inspiring the development of other high-performance two-dimensional films.

RESUMEN

Flexible aqueous zinc batteries are promising candidates as safe power sources for fast-growing portable and wearable electronics. However, the low working voltage, poor rate capability, and cycling stability have greatly restricted their development and applications. Here, a new family of flexible bimetallic phosphide/carbon nanotube hybrid fiber electrodes with unique macroscopic microcrack structure and microscopic porous nanoflower structure is reported. The hierarchical microcrack structure not only facilitates the penetration of electrolyte for effective exposure of active sites, but also can serve as buffers to relieve the stress concentrations of the fiber electrode under deformations, enabling impressive electrochemical performance and mechanical flexibility. Particularly, the fabricated flexible aqueous zinc batteries demonstrate high working voltage plateau and specific capacity (≈1.7 V, 258.9 mAh g-1 at 2 A g-1 ), ultrahigh rate capability (135.8 mAh g-1 at 50 A g-1 , fully charged in only 9.8 s) and impressive power density of 79 000 W kg-1 . Moreover, the flexible batteries show ultralong cycling life with 74.6% capacity retention after 20 000 cycles. The fiber batteries are also highly flexible and can be easily knitted into soft electronic textiles to power a smartphone, which are particularly promising for the next-generation of flexible and wearable electronics.

RESUMEN

Rare-earth (RE)-based honeycomb-lattice materials with strong spin-orbit coupled Jeff = 1/2 moments have attracted great interest as a platform to realize the Kitaev quantum spin liquid (QSL) state. Herein, we report the discovery of a family of RE-based honeycomb-lattice magnets Ba9RE2(SiO4)6 (RE = Ho-Yb), which crystallize into the rhombohedral structure with the space group R3̅. In these serial compounds, magnetic RE3+ ions are arranged on a perfect honeycomb lattice within the ab-plane and stacked in the "ABCABC"-type fashion along the c-axis. All synthesized Ba9RE2(SiO4)6 (RE = Ho-Yb) polycrystals exhibit the dominant antiferromagnetic interaction and absence of magnetic order down to 2 K. In combination with the magnetization and electron spin resonance results, magnetic behaviors are discussed for the compounds with different RE ions. Moreover, the as-grown Ba9Yb2(SiO4)6 single crystals show large magnetic frustration with frustration index f = θCW/TN > 8 and no long-range magnetic ordering down to 0.15 K, being a possible QSL candidate material. These series of compounds are attractive for exploring the exotic magnetic phases of Kitaev materials with 4f electrons.

RESUMEN

Breast cancer (BC) is a common gynaecological malignancy worldwide. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) were identified to take part in the regulation of the occurrence and development of tumors. LncRNA The role of LINC00467 in lung adenocarcinoma has been reported, but its mechanism remains unclear in BC. To explore the role of LINC00467 deeply, we designed and performed a series of experiments. According to the result, it was discovered that LINC00467 was overexpressed in BC tissues and cells, and then the knockdown of LINC00467 resulted in a decline in cell growth and metastasis. Mechanistically, miR-18a/b-5p was screened out and validated to bind with LINC00467. Additionally, LINC00467 was negatively correlated with miR-18a/b-5p. Hereafter, there is evidence that miR-18a/b-5p targets MAPK4. Rescue assays suggested that MAPK4 amplification recovered the inhibitive effect of LINC00467 knockdown on cell growth and metastasis. In a word, LINC00467 enhanced BC cell growth and metastasis by targeting miR-18a/b-5p/MAPK4, which implies a potential revelation for exploring the therapeutic tactic of BC.

RESUMEN

Periprosthetic osteolysis (PIO) caused by wear particles is the main cause of implant failure, which is regulated by nuclear factor κ B receptor activator ligand (RANKL)/osteoprotegerin (OPG) system. At present, there is a lack of effective drugs to prevent or treat PIO. Previous studies have confirmed that DNA methylation is closely related to postmenopausal osteoporosis and can affect the expression of OPG and RANKL. However, the relationship between DNA methylation and PIO is not clear. In this study, we investigated the inhibitory effect of 5-Aza-2-deoxycytidine (AzadC) on osteolysis induced by titanium particles in a mouse model. This inhibition mechanism is achieved by changing the ratio of RANKL/OPG in the osteolysis model. In conclusion, there is a relationship between DNA methylation and PIO. AzadC has a certain inhibitory effect on osteolysis induced by titanium particles. Regulating DNA methylation may be a new way to treat PIO. Our findings lay a foundation for epigenetic understanding and intervention of osteolysis.

RESUMEN

Congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG) are a group of genetic, mostly multisystem disorders, which often involve the central nervous system. ALG3-CDG is one the some 130 known CDG. Here we report two siblings with a severe phenotype and intrauterine death. Whole-exome sequencing revealed two novel variants in ALG3: NM_005787.6:c.512G>T (p.Arg171Leu) inherited from the mother and NM_005787.6:c.511C>T (p.Arg171Trp) inherited from the father.

RESUMEN

We report studies of the complex magnetic ordering, pressure-induced magnetic properties, large exchange bias (EB), spin-glass (SG), critical behavior, and electron spin resonance (ESR) in spinel Co2TiO4. The magnetic compensation behavior occurs in the vicinity of the compensation temperature Tcomp ∼ 32.5 K (defined as the susceptibility χZFC = χFC = 0), which can be attributed to the behavior that the magnetization of two bulk sublattices balances each other completely. The nature of this unusual case is demonstrated by the spin direction upon applied field and A-B sublattice (site) coupling. Specifically, the values of exchange integrals JAA and JBB play a crucial role at lower and higher temperatures, respectively. It is prominent that intrinsic coercivity Hcj increases by 168% at a pressure of 1000 MPa, from which we illustrate the antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition based on magnetic hysteresis loops M(H) and temperature dependent magnetization M(T) curves. The SG behavior of Co2TiO4 is confirmed by a series of reliable measurements and fitting parameters (τ0, zv), and a large EB field is also found through the asymmetry in the M(H) curve. Besides, the critical behavior of Co2TiO4 is studied initially in our present work, and the critical exponents (ß, γ, and δ) indicate long-range ferromagnetic (FM) coupling accompanied by a short-range interaction in Co2TiO4.

RESUMEN

Noise-sideband-free and narrow-linewidth photonic microwave generation based on an optical heterodyne technique is demonstrated experimentally. By beating a self-injection-locking low-noise single-frequency fiber laser and a Brillouin fiber laser, a 9.4 GHz microwave is produced, and its noise sidebands are completely suppressed. Additionally, the signal-to-noise ratio of the microwave signal is improved by 15 dB from 40 to 55 dB, and the linewidth is compressed from 1.6 to 0.53 kHz. The high-performance photonic microwave based on low-noise fiber lasers is a promising candidate in further applications such as wireless network, lidar, and satellite communication.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in the treatment of primary osteoarthritis (OA) and osteoarthritis of Kashin-Beck disease (KBD). METHODS: This study enrolled 77 KBD patients (77 knees, KBD-TKA) and 75 OA patients (75 knees, OA-TKA) who underwent TKA from September 2008 to June 2018. Clinical assessments for each patient were performed pre-operatively and last follow-up. The efficacy measures included the visual analogue scale (VAS) pain score, range of motion (ROM), Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) score, and short form 36 Health Survey (SF-36) as well as related influencing factors between the two groups. RESULTS: All patients were followed up; the follow-up time of KBD-TKA was 14-132 months, with an average of 72.68 ± 37.55 months; OA-TKA was 15-120 months, with an average of 49.2 ± 28.91 months. There was no difference in pre-operative VAS score (7.29 vs. 7.24) and SF-36 (PCS) score (4.87 vs. 5.49) between KBD-TKA and OA-TKA (P > 0.05), while compared with OA, KBD-TKA had significantly worse pre-operative ROM (75.48° vs. 82.87°), HSS score (36.40 vs. 41.84), and SF-36 (MCS) score (26.28 vs. 28.73) (P < 0.05). At the final follow-up, there was no significant difference in VAS score (1.13 vs. 1.16), ROM (105.79 vs. 105.79), and HSS score (92.06 vs. 92.25) between KBD-TKA and OA-TKA (P > 0.05), while compared with OA, KBD-TKA had significantly worse SF-36 (PCS) score (36.90 vs. 42.00) and SF-36 (MCS) score (55.16 vs. 59.70) (P < 0.05). In a multivariate regression, controlling for multiple potential confounders, diagnosis of KBD was associated with poor quality of life after surgery, whereas pre-operative pain was specifically associated with post-operative pain. However, preoperative gender, age, BMI, and the angles of knee prosthesis (before and after surgery) were not associated with post-operative outcome. CONCLUSION: Patients with KBD undergoing primary TKA have excellent outcomes, comparable with OA at the final follow-up, in spite of worse pre-operative ROM, HSS score, and SF-36(MCS) score. However, KBD patients are worse than OA in terms of general health. Pre-operative age, gender, BMI, and the angles of knee prosthesis were not the factors influencing the clinical efficacy of TKA. The diagnosis of KBD was an independent risk factor for poor quality of life after TKA. Pre-operative pain was a clinically important predictor of outcome.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To detect potential variants in a family affected with Usher syndrome type I, and analyze its genotype-phenotype correlation. METHODS: Clinical data of the family was collected. Potential variants in the proband were detected by high-throughput sequencing. Suspected variants were verified by Sanger sequencing. RESULTS: The proband developed night blindness at 10 year old, in addition with bilateral cataract and retinal degeneration. Hearing loss occurred along with increase of age. High-throughput sequencing and Sanger sequencing revealed that she has carried compound heterozygous variants of the MYO7A gene, namely c.2694+2T>G and c.6028G>A. Her sister carried the same variants with similar clinical phenotypes. Her daughter was heterozygous for the c.6028G>A variant but was phenotypically normal. CONCLUSION: The clinical features and genetic variants were delineated in this family with Usher syndrome type I. The results have enriched the phenotype and genotype data of the disease and provided a basis for genetic counseling.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the clinical phenotype of six pedigrees affected with osteogenesis imperfecta and their genetic basis. METHODS: Peripheral blood or abortic tissues of the six pedigrees were collected for the extraction of genomic DNA. Next generation sequencing (NGS) was carried out to detect pathological variants in the genome. Sanger sequencing was used for validating suspected variant among the six pedigrees and 100 healthy controls. RESULTS: In pedigree 1, the proband and his daughter both carried a heterozygous c.1976G>C variant of COL1A1. The probands in pedigrees 2 to 6 respectively carried heterozygous variants of c.2224G>A of COL1A2, c.2533G>A of COL1A1, c.2845G>A of COL1A2, c.2532_2540del of COL1A1, and c.1847G>A of COL1A2. The same variants were not detected in their parents and the 100 healthy controls. CONCLUSION: Variants of COL1A1/2 gene probably underlie the pathogenesis for osteogenesis imperfecta in these pedigrees. Discovery of the nevol variants has enriched the spectrum of COL1A1/2 gene variants and facilitated genetic counseling and prenatal diagnosis for the affected pedigrees.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is acknowledged as the main cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Moreover, previous studies have revealed that microRNAs (miRNAs) widely participate in regulation of various cellular processes, such as viral replication. Hence, the purpose of this study was to investigate the roles of aquaporin 5 (AQP5) and miR-325-3p in the proliferation and apoptosis of HBV-related HCC cells. METHODS: AQP5 and miR-325-3p expression in both normal and HBV-HCC tissues or cells (both Huh7-1.3 and HepG2.2.15) was detected using qRT-PCR. AQP5 expression was knocked down in HBV-related Huh7-1.3 and HepG2.2.15 cells using small interfering RNA (siRNA) technology. Down-regulation was confirmed using real-time PCR and Western blot analysis. Effects of AQP5 down-regulation on the proliferation and apoptosis were assessed. Dual luciferase reporter gene assay, Western blot and qRT-PCR were employed to evaluate the effect of miR-325-3p on the luciferase activity and expression of AQP5. Moreover, miR-325-3p mimic-induced changes in cellular proliferation and apoptosis were detected through CCK-8 assay, BrdU assay, flow cytometry analysis and ELISA. RESULTS: In this study, the expression of AQP5 was up-regulated in human HBV-HCC tissue, Huh7-1.3 and HepG2.2.15 cells. Knockdown of AQP5 significantly inhibited the proliferation and promoted apoptosis of HBV-HCC cells. Next, miR-325-3p was obviously down-regulated in HBV-HCC. In concordance with this, MiR-325-3p directly targeted AQP5, and reduced both mRNA and protein levels of AQP5, which promoted cell proliferation and suppressed cell apoptosis in HCC cells. Overexpression of miR-325-3p dramatically inhibited cell proliferation and induced cell apoptosis. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings clearly demonstrated that introduction of miR-325-3p inhibited proliferation and induced apoptosis of Huh7-1.3 and HepG2.2.15 cells by directly decreasing AQP5 expression, and that silencing AQP5 expression was essential for the pro-apoptotic effect of miR-325-3p overexpression on Huh7-1.3 and HepG2.2.15 cells. It is beneficial to gain insight into the mechanism of HBV infection and pathophysiology of HBV-related HCC.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To detect potential mutation in a large pedigree affected with preaxial polydactyly II. METHODS: With informed consent obtained, peripheral blood samples were collected from the proband, her family members as well as 100 healthy controls. Genomic DNA was extracted. The zone of polarizing activity regulatory sequence (ZRS) of the SHH gene was amplified by PCR and subjected to bi-directional Sanger sequencing. RESULTS: The pedigree had typical preaxial polydactyly II. A heterozygous C>G mutation at position 105 of the ZRS region was detected in all patients but none of the unaffected members and 100 healthy controls. CONCLUSION: The heterozygous 105C>G mutation of the ZRS region probably underlies the disease in this pedigree.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The purpose of our experiments was to investigate the targeting relationship of linc00515, miR-140-5p and ATG14 and to explore the roles of linc00515, miR-140-5p and ATG14 in autophagy and chemoresistance of melphalan-resistant multiple myeloma cells. METHODS: Plasmids that could interfere with the expression of linc00515 and ATG14 were loaded into myeloma cells, which were cultured with melphalan. MTT assay and flow cytometry analysis were utilized to investigate the effect of linc00515, miR-140-5p and ATG14 on the resistance of myeloma cells. QRT-PCR was used to determine the levels of mRNAs. Western blot was utilized to explore the level of ATG14 and autophagy-related proteins. Dual luciferase assay was utilized to explore the targeting relationship between linc00515, miR-140-5p and ATG14. GFP LC3 fluorescence assay was conducted to study the autophagy of cells. RESULTS: The expression of linc00515 and ATG14 were significantly higher in melphalan-resistant myeloma cells. Knockdown of linc00515 and ATG14 led to decreased autophagy and chemoresistance of melphalan-resistant myeloma cells. The forced expression of miR-140-5p suppressed autophagy and chemoresistance of melphalan-resistant myeloma cells. CONCLUSION: Linc00515 enhanced autophagy and chemoresistance of melphalan-resistant myeloma by directly inhibiting miR-140-5p, which elevated ATG14 level.

RESUMEN

Inspired by the hierarchically helical structure of classical thermal insulation material-wool, a stretchable heating carbon nanotube (CNT) fiber is created with excellent mechanical and heating properties. It can be stretched by up to 150% with high stability and reversibility, and a good thermal insulation is achieved from a large amount of formed hierarchically helical voids inside. Impressively, it exhibits ultrafast thermal response over 1000 °C s-1 , low operation voltage of several volts, and high heating stability over 5000 cycles. These hierarchically helical CNT fibers, for the first time, are demonstrated as monofilaments to produce soft and lightweight textiles at a large scale with high heating performances.
