RESUMEN

Hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) are cells mainly present in the bone marrow and capable of forming mature blood cells. However, the epigenetic mechanisms governing the homeostasis of HSPCs remain elusive. Here, we demonstrate an important role for histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) in regulating this process. Our data show that the percentage of HSPCs in Hdac6 knockout mice is lower than in wild-type mice due to decreased HSPC proliferation. HDAC6 interacts with isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) and deacetylates IDH1 at lysine 233. The deacetylation of IDH1 inhibits its catalytic activity and thereby decreases the 5-hydroxymethylcytosine level of ten-eleven translocation 2 (TET2) target genes, changing gene expression patterns to promote the proliferation of HSPCs. These findings uncover a role for HDAC6 and IDH1 in regulating the homeostasis of HSPCs and may have implications for the treatment of hematological diseases.

Salicylic acid (SA) plays important roles in different aspects of plant development, including root growth, where auxin is also a major player by means of its asymmetric distribution. However, the mechanism underlying the effect of SA on the development of rice roots remains poorly understood. Here, we show that SA inhibits rice root growth by interfering with auxin transport associated with the OsPIN3t- and clathrin-mediated gene regulatory network (GRN). SA inhibits root growth as well as Brefeldin A-sensitive trafficking through a non-canonical SA signaling mechanism. Transcriptome analysis of rice seedlings treated with SA revealed that the OsPIN3t auxin transporter is at the center of a GRN involving the coat protein clathrin. The root growth and endocytic trafficking in both the pin3t and clathrin heavy chain mutants were SA insensitivity. SA inhibitory effect on the endocytosis of OsPIN3t was dependent on clathrin; however, the root growth and endocytic trafficking mediated by tyrphostin A23 (TyrA23) were independent of the pin3t mutant under SA treatment. These data reveal that SA affects rice root growth through the convergence of transcriptional and non-SA signaling mechanisms involving OsPIN3t-mediated auxin transport and clathrin-mediated trafficking as key components.

The growing interest in so-called interface coupling strategies arises from their potential to enhance the performance of active electrode materials. Nevertheless, designing a robust coupled interface in nanocomposites for stable electrochemical processes remains a challenge. In this study, an epitaxial growth strategy is proposed by synthesizing sulfide rhenium (ReS2 ) on exfoliated black phosphorus (E-BP) nanosheets, creating an abundance of robust interfacial linkages. Through spectroscopic analysis using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray absorption spectroscopy, the authors investigate the interfacial environment. The well-developed coupled interface and structural stability contribute to the impressive performance of the 3D-printed E-BP@ReS2 -based micro-supercapacitor, achieving a specific capacitance of 47.3 mF cm-2 at 0.1 mA cm-2 and demonstrating excellent long-term cyclability (89.2% over 2000 cycles). Furthermore, density functional theory calculations unveil the positive impact of the strongly coupled interface in the E-BP@ReS2 nanocomposite on the adsorption of H+ ions, showcasing a significantly reduced adsorption energy of -2.17 eV. The strong coupling effect facilitates directional charge delocalization at the interface, enhancing the electrochemical performance of electrodes and resulting in the successful construction of advanced micro-supercapacitors.

The cellular mechanisms controlling infection-induced emergency granulopoiesis are poorly defined. Here we found that reactive oxygen species (ROS) concentrations in the bone marrow (BM) were elevated during acute infection in a phagocytic NADPH oxidase-dependent manner in myeloid cells. Gr1(+) myeloid cells were uniformly distributed in the BM, and all c-kit(+) progenitor cells were adjacent to Gr1(+) myeloid cells. Inflammation-induced ROS production in the BM played a critical role in myeloid progenitor expansion during emergency granulopoiesis. ROS elicited oxidation and deactivation of phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN), resulting in upregulation of PtdIns(3,4,5)P3 signaling in BM myeloid progenitors. We further revealed that BM myeloid cell-produced ROS stimulated proliferation of myeloid progenitors via a paracrine mechanism. Taken together, our results establish that phagocytic NADPH oxidase-mediated ROS production by BM myeloid cells plays a critical role in mediating emergency granulopoiesis during acute infection.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies reported conflicting results on the relationship between oxytocin use for labor augmentation and the risk of postpartum hemorrhage, probably because it is rather challenging to disentangle oxytocin use from labor dystocia. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the independent association between oxytocin use for augmentation and the risk of postpartum hemorrhage by using advanced statistical modeling to control for labor patterns and other covariates. STUDY DESIGN: We used data from 20,899 term, cephalic, singleton pregnancies of patients with spontaneous onset of labor and no previous cesarean delivery from Intermountain Healthcare in Utah in the Consortium on Safe Labor. Presence of postpartum hemorrhage was identified on the basis of a clinical diagnosis. Propensity scores were calculated using a generalized linear mixed model for oxytocin use for augmentation, and covariate balancing generalized propensity score was applied to obtain propensity scores for the duration and total dosage of oxytocin augmentation. A weighted generalized additive mixed model was used to depict dose-response curves between the duration and total dosage of oxytocin augmentation and the outcomes. The average treatment effects of oxytocin use for augmentation on postpartum hemorrhage and estimated blood loss (mL) were assessed by inverse probability weighting of propensity scores. RESULTS: The odds of both postpartum hemorrhage and estimated blood loss increased modestly when the duration and/or total dosage of oxytocin used for augmentation increased. However, in comparison with women for whom oxytocin was not used, oxytocin augmentation was not clinically or statistically significantly associated with estimated blood loss (6.5 mL; 95% confidence interval, 2.5-10.3) or postpartum hemorrhage (adjusted odds ratio, 1.02; 95% confidence interval, 0.82-1.24) when rigorously controlling for labor pattern and potential confounders. The results remained consistent regardless of inclusion of women with an intrapartum cesarean delivery. CONCLUSION: The odds of postpartum hemorrhage and estimated blood loss increased modestly with increasing duration and total dosage of oxytocin augmentation. However, in comparison with women for whom oxytocin was not used and after controlling for potential confounders, there was no clinically significant association between oxytocin use for augmentation and estimated blood loss or the risk of postpartum hemorrhage.

Three yeast strains belonging to the ascomycetous yeast genus Pichia were isolated from two soil samples from Yunnan and Guizhou provinces and a marine water sample from Liaoning province, PR China. Phylogenetic analyses based on the sequences of the D1/D2 domains of the large subunit(LSU) rRNA gene and the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region indicate that these three strains, together with 12 additional strains isolated from various substrates collected in different regions or countries of the world, represent a novel species of the genus Pichia, for which the name Pichia kurtzmaniana sp. nov. (holotype: strain CGMCC 2.7213) is proposed. The novel species differs from its close relatives Candida californica by eight (1.5 %) and 26 (11.1 %) mismatches in the D1/D2 domains and the ITS region, respectively; and from Pichia chibodasensis by 11 (2.1 %) and 20 (8.7 %) mismatches in the D1/D2 domains and the ITS region, respectively. In addition, eight Candida species which belong to the Pichia clade are transferred to the genus Pichia, resulting in the proposal of the following new combinations: Pichia cabralensis comb. nov., Pichia californica comb. nov., Pichia ethanolica comb. nov., Pichia inconspicua comb. nov., Pichia phayaonensis comb. nov., Pichia pseudolambica comb. nov., Pichia rugopelliculosa comb. nov., and Pichia thaimueangensis comb. nov.

A yeast strain (CGMCC 2.6937T) belonging to the ascomycetous yeast genus Saturnispora was recently isolated from soil collected in Xinghuacun, Shanxi Province, PR China. The strain produces one or two ellipsoid or spherical ascospores in asci formed by the conjugation between a cell and its bud. Phylogenetic analyses of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and the D1/D2 domain of the large subunit rRNA gene suggest that this strain is conspecific with strains NYNU 14639 isolated from rotten wood collected in Funiu Mountain, Henan province and ES13S05 from soil collected in Nantou County, Taiwan. The CGMCC 2.6937T group is most closely related to Saturnispora dispora and Saturnispora zaruensis. However, strain CGMCC 2.6937T differs from S. dispora by 17 (3.2 %, 13 substitutions and four gaps) and 77 (18.8 %, 52 substitutions and 25 gaps) mismatches, and from S. zaruensis by 15 (2.9 %, 12 substitutions and three gaps) and 64 (15.6 %, 44 substitutions and 20 gaps) mismatches, in the D1/D2 domain and ITS region, respectively. The results suggest that the CGMCC 2.6937T group represents an undescribed species in the genus Saturnispora, for which the name Saturnispora sinensis sp. nov. is proposed. The holotype strain is CGMCC 2.6937T.

Genome-wide association studies analysis has revealed associations between ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and loci on the TBX21 gene across various populations. This study aimed to investigate if there is a connection between a higher risk of AS in a Chinese population and two polymorphism loci on the TBX21 gene. To achieve this, we performed a case-control investigation involving 363 patients with AS and 907 healthy individuals. Genotyping was carried out using the iPLEX Gold genotyping assay. The analysis of genotypes and haplotypes was performed using SPSS 23.0 and SHEsis software. The results revealed no statistically significant correlation between the two specified single-nucleotide polymorphisms of TBX21 (rs11657479 C/T and rs4794067 C/T) and susceptibility to AS. However, upon conducting stratification analysis, our findings demonstrated a significant association between rs11657479 and susceptibility to human leucocyte antigen (HLA)-B27+ AS in allelic (C vs. T: odds ratio [OR] = 1.52, 95%CI = 1.09-2.11, corrected p [pc] = .028), heterozygous (CT vs. TT: OR = 1.63, 95%CI = 1.13-2.34, pc = .016) and dominant (CT + CC vs. TT: OR = 1.60, 95%CI = 1.12-2.28, pc = .018) models. Furthermore, the haplotype rs4794067/C-rs11657479/C of TBX21 was found to increase the risk of HLA-B27+ AS cases. In conclusion, our findings indicate a correlation between TBX21 gene polymorphism and HLA-B27+ AS patients within the Chinese population.

Trophoblast cell syncytialization is essential for placental and fetal development. Abnormal trophoblast cell fusion leads to pregnancy pathologies, such as preeclampsia (PE), intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), and miscarriage. 27-hydroxycholesterol (27-OHC) is the most abundant oxysterol in human peripheral blood synthesized by sterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27A1) and is considered a critical mediator between hypercholesterolemia and a variety of related disorders. Gestational hypercholesterolemia was associated with spontaneous preterm delivery and low birth weight (LBW) in term infants, yet the mechanism is unclear. In this study, two trophoblast cell models and CD-1 mice were used to evaluate the effects of 27-OHC on trophoblast fusion during placenta development. Two different kinds of trophoblast cells received a dosage of 2.5, 5, or 10 uM 27-OHC. Three groups of pregnant mice were randomly assigned: control, full treatment (E0.5-E17.5), or late treatment (E13.5-E17.5). All mice received daily intraperitoneal injections of saline (control group) and 27-OHC (treatment group; 5.5 mg/kg). In vitro experiments, we found that 27-OHC inhibited trophoblast cell fusion in primary human trophoblasts (PHT) and forskolin (FSK)-induced BeWo cells. 27-OHC up-regulated the expression of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway-related proteins. Moreover, the PI3K inhibitor LY294002 rescued the inhibitory effect of 27-OHC. Inhibition of trophoblast cell fusion by 27-OHC was also observed in CD-1 mice. Furthermore, fetal weight and placental efficiency decreased and fetal blood vessel development was inhibited in pregnant mice treated with 27-OHC. This study was the first to prove that 27-OHC inhibits trophoblast cell fusion by Activating PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. This study reveals a novel mechanism by which dyslipidemia during pregnancy results in adverse pregnancy outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Several autoimmune disorders have been linked to polymorphisms in IL10 and IL6R genes. This research aimed to study whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the genes of IL10 and IL6R were associated with acute anterior uveitis (AAU) in Han Chinese. METHODS: Genotyping was carried out by the iPLEX Gold Genotyping Assay. Our study comprised 420 patients with AAU and 918 healthy subjects from Han Chinese. Using the chi-square (χ2) test, alleles and genotypes were analyzed between AAU subjects and healthy controls. RESULTS: All ten SNPs were successfully genotyped and four SNPs (IL10/rs1800871, IL10/rs3021094, IL10/rs2222202, IL6R/rs4845618) exhibited weak associations with AAU, as indicated by their Puncorr values. However, upon applying the Bonferroni correction, there was no significant association between AAU and the control subjects. Additionally, the haplotype analysis of the ten SNPs revealed no association with AAU. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggested that polymorphisms of the tested ten SNPs on the IL10 and IL6R genes did not show any association with the risk of developing AAU among the Han Chinese population.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) regulates gene expression and governs many important biological processes. However, the function of m6A in the development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) remains poorly characterized. Thus, the purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the effects of m6A RNA methylation regulators on the development of BPD. BPD-related transcriptome data were downloaded from the GEO database. Differentially expressed m6A methylation regulators between BPD and control group were identified. Consensus clustering was conducted for the classification of BPD and association between clusters and BPD phenotypes were explored. Analysis of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and immune-related DEGs was performed. The GSEA, GO and KEGG analyses were used to interpret the functional enrichments. The composition of immune cell subtypes in BPD subsets was predicted by CIBERSORT analysis. Compared with the control group, expression of most m6A regulators showed significant alteration, especially for IGF2BP1/2/3. BPD was classified into 2 subsets, and cluster 1 was correlated with severe BPD. Furthermore, the results of functional enrichment analyses showed a disturbed immune-related signaling pathway. Based on CIBERSORT analysis, we found that the proportion of immune cell subsets changed between cluster 1 and cluster 2. Our study revealed the implication of m6A methylation regulators in the development of BPD, which might provide a novel insight for the diagnosis and treatment of BPD.

PURPOSE: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the most common functional injuries observed in trauma patients. However, certain trauma medications may exacerbate renal injury. Therefore, the early detection of trauma-related AKI holds paramount importance in improving trauma prognosis. METHODS: Qualified datasets were selected from public databases, and common differentially expressed genes related to trauma-induced AKI and hub genes were identified through enrichment analysis and the establishment of protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks. Additionally, the specificity of these hub genes was investigated using the sepsis dataset and conducted a comprehensive literature review to assess their plausibility. The raw data from both datasets were downloaded using R software (version 4.2.1) and processed with the "affy" package19 for correction and normalization. RESULTS: Our analysis revealed 585 upregulated and 629 downregulated differentially expressed genes in the AKI dataset, along with 586 upregulated and 948 downregulated differentially expressed genes in the trauma dataset. Concurrently, the establishment of the PPI network and subsequent topological analysis highlighted key hub genes, including CD44, CD163, TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 1, cytochrome b-245 beta chain, versican, membrane spanning 4-domains A4A, mitogen-activated protein kinase 14, and early growth response 1. Notably, their receiver operating characteristic curves displayed areas exceeding 75%, indicating good diagnostic performance. Moreover, our findings postulated a unique molecular mechanism underlying trauma-related AKI. CONCLUSION: This study presents an alternative strategy for the early diagnosis and treatment of trauma-related AKI, based on the identification of potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Additionally, this study provides theoretical references for elucidating the mechanisms of trauma-related AKI.

The electrocatalytic nitrate (NO3-) reduction reaction (eNITRR) is a promising method for ammonia synthesis. However, its efficacy is currently limited due to poor selectivity, largely caused by the inherent complexity of the multiple-electron processes involved. To address these issues, oxygen-vacancy-rich LaFe0.9M0.1O3-δ (M = Co, Ni, and Cu) perovskite submicrofibers have been designed from the starting material LaFeO3-δ (LF) by a B-site substitution strategy and used as the eNITRR electrocatalyst. Consequently, the LaFe0.9Cu0.1O3-δ (LF0.9Cu0.1) submicrofibers with a stronger Fe-O hybridization, more oxygen vacancies, and more positive surface potential exhibit a higher ammonia yield rate of 349 ± 15 µg h-1 mg-1cat. and a Faradaic efficiency of 48 ± 2% than LF submicrofibers. The COMSOL Multiphysics simulations demonstrate that the more positive surface of LF0.9Cu0.1 submicrofibers can induce NO3- enrichment and suppress the competing hydrogen evolution reaction. By combining a variety of in situ characterizations and density functional theory calculations, the eNITRR mechanism is revealed, where the first proton-electron coupling step (*NO3 + H+ + e- → *HNO3) is the rate-determining step with a reduced energy barrier of 1.83 eV. This work highlights the positive effect of cation substitution in promoting eNITRR properties of perovskites and provides new insights into the studies of perovskite-type electrocatalytic ammonia synthesis catalysts.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease. A. muciniphila and its outer membrane protein Amuc_1100 ameliorate metabolic disorders, enteritis, depression, and other diseases in mice. The NAFLD mouse model was established by feeding a high-fat diet (HFD) for 10 weeks. To assess the effect of A. muciniphila and Amuc_1100 on NAFLD, we used atorvastatin, a common lipid-lowering drug, as a positive control. A. muciniphila and Amuc_1100 significantly reduced body weight and serum ALT and AST levels, and improved serum lipid levels in NAFLD mice, which had similar effects to Ator. In addition, A. muciniphila and Amuc_1100 decreased the concentration of LPS in the serum and upregulated the mRNA expression of the colonic tight junction proteins. In the liver, A. muciniphila and Amuc_1100 significantly reduced the mRNA expression levels of nodular receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor κB (NF-κB), and the protein and mRNA expression levels inflammatory cytokines. At the genus level, Amuc_1100 treatment significantly reduced the abundance of Coriobacteriaceae_UCG-002 produced by the HFD. The abundances of Blautia, norank_f__Ruminococcaceae, Lachnoclostridium, GCA-900066575 and Lachnospiraceae_UCG-006 increased dramatically. Together, A. muciniphila and Amuc_1100 alleviate HFD-induced NAFLD by acting on the gut-liver axis and regulating gut microbes.

Five yeast strains isolated from tree bark and rotten wood collected in central and southwestern China, together with four Brazilian strains (three from soil and rotting wood collected in an Amazonian rainforest biome and one from Bromeliad collected in Alagoas state) and one Costa Rican strain isolated from a flower beetle, represent a new species closely related with Yueomyces sinensis in Saccharomycetaceae, as revealed by the 26S ribosomal RNA gene D1/D2 domain and the internal transcribed spacer region sequence analysis. The name Yueomyces silvicola sp. nov. is proposed for this new species with the holotype China General Microbiological Culture Collection Center 2.6469 (= Japan Collection of Microorganisms 34885). The new species exhibits a whole-genome average nucleotide identity value of 77.8% with Y. sinensis. The two Yueomyces species shared unique physiological characteristics of being unable to utilize ammonium and the majority of the amino acids, including glutamate and glutamine, as sole nitrogen sources. Among the 20 amino acids tested, only leucine and tyrosine can be utilized by the Yueomyces species. Genome sequence comparison showed that GAT1, which encodes a GATA family protein participating in transcriptional activation of nitrogen-catabolic genes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, is absent in the Yueomyces species. However, the failure of the Yueomyces species to utilize ammonium, glutamate, and glutamine, which are generally preferred nitrogen sources for microorganisms, implies that more complicated alterations in the central nitrogen metabolism pathway might occur in the genus Yueomyces.

BACKGROUND: Glioma is the most common malignant primary brain tumor and is characterized by a poor prognosis and limited therapeutic options. ISG20 expression is induced by interferons or double-stranded RNA and is associated with poor prognosis in several malignant tumors. Nevertheless, the expression of ISG20 in gliomas, its impact on patient prognosis, and its role in the tumor immune microenvironment have not been fully elucidated. METHODS: Using bioinformatics, we comprehensively illustrated the potential function of ISG20, its predictive value in stratifying clinical prognosis, and its association with immunological characteristics in gliomas. We also confirmed the expression pattern of ISG20 in glioma patient samples by immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence staining. RESULTS: ISG20 mRNA expression was higher in glioma tissues than in normal tissues. Data-driven results showed that a high level of ISG20 expression predicted an unfavorable clinical outcome in glioma patients, and revealed that ISG20 was possibly expressed on tumor-associated macrophages and was significantly associated with immune regulatory processes, as evidenced by its positive correlation with the infiltration of regulatory immune cells (e.g., M2 macrophages and regulatory T cells), expression of immune checkpoint molecules, and effectiveness of immune checkpoint blockade therapy. Furthermore, immunohistochemistry staining confirmed the enhanced expression of ISG20 in glioma tissues with a higher WHO grade, and immunofluorescence assay verified its cellular localization on M2 macrophages. CONCLUSIONS: ISG20 is expressed on M2 macrophages, and can serve as a novel indicator for predicting the malignant phenotype and clinical prognosis in glioma patients.

A previous study indicated that long non-coding RNA X-inactive-specific transcript (XIST) promoted ethanol-induced HSCs autophagy and activation. Considering the critical role of HSC activation in hepatic fibrosis, the aim of the present study was to reveal the exact role of XIST in liver fibrosis and its underlying mechanism. The expression of XIST in the liver from CCL4-induced mice and control mice as well as human fibrotic liver tissue and healthy liver tissue was examined. The mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS), mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and mitochondrial morphology were measured to assess the mitochondrial damage. The relationship between XIST and miR-539-3p as well as between miR-539-3p and ADAMTS5 was verified by a dual-luciferase reporter assay. The expression levels of HSCs activation markers were examined by Western blot. The results showed that the XIST was upregulated in fibrotic liver tissue, and overexpression of XIST induced mitochondrial dysfunction in hepatocytes. miR-539-3p directly targeted XIST, and ADAMTS5 mRNA was a downstream target of miR-539-3p. Knockdown of miR-539-3p led to an increased mitochondrial damage in hepatocytes in terms of reduced mitochondrial length, decreased MMP, and increased ROS production. However, the depletion of ADAMTS5 reversed the regulatory effect of XIST on mitochondrial damage in hepatocytes and the activation of HSCs. Our study revealed the critical role of the XIST/miR-539-3p/ADAMTS5 axis in regulating mitochondrial damage in hepatocytes and the activation of HSCs. This study may provide a potential therapeutic strategy for the treatment of liver fibrosis.

RESEARCH QUESTION: What is the effect of miR-122 on the progression and recovery of fibrosis in Asherman's syndrome? DESIGN: Endometrial tissue was collected from 21 patients, 11 with intrauterine adhesion (IUA) and 10 without IUA. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, immunofluorescence and Western blot were applied to observe the expression of mRNAs/miRNAs and protein, respectively. The endometrial physical injury was carried out in C57BL/6 mice to create an endometrial fibrosis model, with intrauterine injection of adenovirus to compare the antifibrosis and repair function of miR-122 on endometrium. The morphology of the uterus was observed using haematoxylin and eosin staining, and fibrosis markers were detected by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: miR-122 expression was reduced in patients with IUAs, accompanied by fibrosis. MiR-122 overexpression reduced the degree of fibrosis in endometrial stromal cells. Further molecular analyses demonstrated that miR-122 inhibited fibrosis through the TGF-ß/SMAD pathway by directly targeting the 3' untranslated region of SMAD family member 3, suppressing its expression. Notably, miR-122 promoted endometrial regeneration and recovery of pregnancy capacity in a mouse endometrial injury model. CONCLUSIONS: miR-122 is a critical regulator for repair of endometrial fibrosis and provided new insight for the clinical treatment of intrauterine adhesions.

A yeast strain belonging to the basidiomycetous yeast genus Cystofilobasidium was isolated from a marine sediment sample collected in an intertidal zone in Shandong province, PR China. The results of phylogenetic analyses based on sequences of the D1/D2 domain of the 26S ribosomal RNA gene and the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region indicate that this strain, together with three other strains isolated from basal ice collected in Norway, the gut of an insect and an alga collected in Russia, represent a novel species of the genus, for which the name Cystofilobasidium josepaulonis sp. nov. (holotype strain CGMCC 2.6672T) is proposed. The novel species differs from the known species of the genus Cystofilobasidium by 1.7 %-4.1 and 11.3 %-17.1 % mismatches in the D1/D2 domain and the ITS region, respectively. This species forms teliospores on potato dextrose agar (PDA) and 10 % V8 juice agar, but teliospore germination with basidia was not observed.

Three strains belonging to the basidiomycetous yeast genus Vishniacozyma were isolated from marine water samples collected from intertidal zones in Liaoning province, northeast China. Phylogenetic analyses based on the sequences of the small subunit (SSU) ribosomal DNA (rDNA), the D1/D2 domain of the large subunit (LSU) ribosomal DNA (rDNA), the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), the two subunits of DNA polymerase II (RPB1 and RPB2), the translation elongation factor 1-α (TEF1), and the mitochondrial gene cytochrome b (CYTB) showed that these strains together with 20 strains from various geographic and ecological origins from other regions of the world represent a novel species in the genus Vishniacozyma. We propose the name Vishniacozyma pseudocarnescens sp. nov. (holotype CGMCC 2.6457) for the new species, which differs phenotypically from its close relatives V. carnescens, V. tephrensis, and V. victoriae by its ability to grow at 30 °C and on 50 % (w/v) glucose-yeast extract agar.
