BACKGROUND: Despite widespread growth of televisits and telemedicine, it is unclear how telenursing could be applied to augment nurse labor and support nursing. OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated a large-scale acute care telenurse (ACTN) program to support web-based admission and discharge processes for hospitalized patients. METHODS: A retrospective, observational cohort comparison was performed in a large academic hospital system (approximately 2100 beds) in Houston, Texas, comparing patients in our pilot units for the ACTN program (telenursing cohort) between June 15, 2022, and December 31, 2022, with patients who did not participate (nontelenursing cohort) in the same units and timeframe. We used a case mix index analysis to confirm comparable patient cases between groups. The outcomes investigated were patient experience, measured using the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems (HCAHCPS) survey; nursing experience, measured by a web-based questionnaire with quantitative multiple-choice and qualitative open-ended questions; time of discharge during the day (from electronic health record data); and duration of discharge education processes. RESULTS: Case mix index analysis found no significant case differences between cohorts (P=.75). For the first 4 units that rolled out in phase 1, all units experienced improvement in at least 4 and up to 7 HCAHCPS domains. Scores for "communication with doctors" and "would recommend hospital" were improved significantly (P=.03 and P=.04, respectively) in 1 unit in phase 1. The impact of telenursing in phases 2 and 3 was mixed. However, "communication with doctors" was significantly improved in 2 units (P=.049 and P=.002), and the overall rating of the hospital and the "would recommend hospital" scores were significantly improved in 1 unit (P=.02 and P=04, respectively). Of 289 nurses who were invited to participate in the survey, 106 completed the nursing experience survey (response rate 106/289, 36.7%). Of the 106 nurses, 101 (95.3%) indicated that the ACTN program was very helpful or somewhat helpful to them as bedside nurses. The only noticeable difference between the telenursing and nontelenursing cohorts for the time of day discharge was a shift in the volume of patients discharged before 2 PM compared to those discharged after 2 PM at a hospital-wide level. The ACTN admissions averaged 12 minutes and 6 seconds (SD 7 min and 29 s), and the discharges averaged 14 minutes and 51 seconds (SD 8 min and 10 s). The average duration for ACTN calls was 13 minutes and 17 seconds (SD 7 min and 52 s). Traditional cohort standard practice (nontelenursing cohort) of a bedside nurse engaging in discharge and admission processes was 45 minutes, consistent with our preimplementation time study. CONCLUSIONS: This study shows that ACTN programs are feasible and associated with improved outcomes for patient and nursing experience and reducing time allocated to admission and discharge education.

AIM: The aim of this study is to measure how collaborative factors are associated with the technology readiness of nursing staff working in residential care and community nursing. The Reciprocity Instrument and Technology Readiness Index 2.0 were applied to measure this association. DESIGN: A cross-sectional survey was conducted between October 2020 and January 2021. METHODS: The Technology Readiness Index 2.0 was translated into Dutch, administered together with the Reciprocity Instrument and linguistically validated. And 1660 Registered Nurses and Nursing Assistants received an invitation to the online survey. Descriptive statistics and regression analyses were used to analyse the data. RESULTS: A total of 475 nursing staff responded, a response rate of 28.6%. The following factors have a statistically significant association with technology readiness: age, education level, years of working experience, type of organization, reciprocity behaviour and conditions of reciprocity behaviour: digital communication usage to reach one another, multilayeredness and future perspective. CONCLUSION: This study shows that reciprocity behaviour is positively associated with technology readiness. The influencing factor reciprocity remains intact after the correction of the other factors that were measured. This confirms the relevance of collaborative factors that influence the technology adoption process of nursing staff working in residential care and community nursing. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE: This study offers insights into how collaboration based on reciprocity behaviour positively impacts the technology readiness of nursing staff engaged in residential care and community nursing and could be used in the education of nursing staff and healthcare teams. IMPACT: Being aware of the impact that collaborative factors have on the adoption process of ICT among nursing staff could be used to support the desired preparatory activities as part of ICT implementation for healthcare managers, innovators, and nursing work groups charged with implementing technology in the healthcare process. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a family-centred empowerment intervention on the incidence, stage and status of pressure injury (PI) in patients diagnosed with stroke during the post-discharge period with a telenursing approach. METHOD: This randomised controlled clinical trial (RCT) was conducted with patients admitted to Ghaem Hospital in Mashhad and who were diagnosed with stroke. Patients were randomly assigned to one of two equal-sized groups: intervention and control. Family education and follow-up of the intervention group was performed using WhatsApp messenger for one month. Caregivers of patients in the control group received the routine training programme. The incidence, stage and status of PIs of both groups were measured at the beginning and at one month later using the Braden Scale, the EPUAP/NPUAP Classification System, and the Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing (PUSH). RESULTS: A total of 60 patients took part in the RCT (30 patients allocated to each group). The incidence of PI in the control group was significantly higher than in the intervention group (p<0.001). The results showed significantly lower stages of PI in the intervention group than in the control group (p<0.001 and p<0.05 for univariable and multivariable models, respectively). The results showed a significantly lower PUSH score in the intervention group than in the control group (p<0.001 and p<0.05 for univariable and multivariable models, respectively). CONCLUSION: The findings of this RCT show that the empowerment and training of caregivers of patients diagnosed with stroke after discharge using telenursing can reduce the incidence and severity of PIs and improve their status in these patients.

Introduction: Nurses have proven to be fundamental for the expansion and consolidation of primary health care (PHC), as well as the development of digital health strategies. We explored the results of a synchronous telephone teleconsultations service between professionals for nurses in Brazil. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. We retrieved data from teleconsultations registry. All teleconsultations answered by the team of nurses between September 2018 and July 2021 were analyzed regarding the reasons (according to International Classification of Primary Care, 2nd edition-ICPC-2) and decisions of the teleconsultation. Results: There were 9,273 phone teleconsultations registered in the period, requested by 3,125 nurses from all states throughout the country, of which 56.9% called once and 15.9% used the teleconsultations at least 4 times. We found 362 different reasons for solicitations, which were classified according to the ICPC-2 chapters. The most frequent codes were respiratory (25.9%), general and unspecified (21.2%), and skin (21.2%), which corresponded to 68% of the total sample. Most teleconsultations (66.9%) had as outcome the maintenance of the case at PHC. Conclusion: Teleconsultations are widely used and address a broad number of situations. This service may improve the quality of Brazilian PHC and promote the development of clinical reasoning and critical thinking by nurses.

Introduction: Almost half of veterans (44.6%) seen in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs outpatient setting are diagnosed with hypertension (HTN). Because of the widespread nature of HTN, use of virtual visits has the potential to improve blood pressure (BP) management. This evaluation assessed the effectiveness of video blood pressure visits (VBPVs) in the management of HTN in veterans enrolled in Veterans Health Administration primary care. Methods: The program was implemented within the existing veteran-centered medical home. VBPVs are scheduled where the nurse observes veterans taking their BP and provides teaching or counseling. A national training curriculum was delivered to local nurse champions through Microsoft Teams. We analyzed improvement in BP over a 2-year period. We also captured actions taken by nurses during the VBPV by searching the electronic notes. Ratings of training and comments were summarized using feedback forms completed after training. Results: In total, 81,476 veterans participated in VBPVs over 2 years. Of those, 44,682 veterans had an existing ICD-10 code related to HTN. Of the 18,078 veterans who had a pre- and post-VBPV BP, the average change to systolic measurement was -10.6 mm Hg (range -82 to 78). Average change to diastolic measurement was -4.61 mm Hg (range -59 to 55). Most interventions addressed medication management (77%). Nurses' evaluations of the program were positive. Conclusions: Video visits provide reliable and convenient veteran-centered care. Such visits enable care when unanticipated interruptions occur such as the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. In addition to medication management, nurse-led interventions such as counseling on lifestyle changes can be effective in HTN management.

Background: Since the decline in death rates from cardiovascular diseases has slowed down recently, promoting cardiovascular health in patients and the general public has become more important than ever, particularly for elder and rural patients. This study is a collaborative effort between a regional health network in Virginia and associated organizations to implement and assess telenursing and remote patient monitoring (RPM) to help home care patients better manage their own cardiovascular related diseases and promote sustainable health delivery options. Method: Eighty cardiovascular patients with diabetes, congestive heart failure, or both who had a recent disease-related hospital stay were enrolled in the RPM program to receive services, including care coordination, coaching, referral for behavioral health, and aging-related services for 90+ days. The program used telenursing and RPM through home care monitoring equipment to coach patients on effective measures to stay compliant with posthospitalization regimens, track and evaluate readmissions, and assess physiological status and mental health. Result: There was a decline in hospital admissions of 65%, 85% for observations and related inpatient services for enrolled CVD patients in the RPM program. In addition, the longer the patient was enrolled the less likely they were to readmit. The program saved ∼$615,127 in patient claims costs and had net savings of $390,296, ∼173% of the total program expenses. Discussion: Evidence showed that 90+ day enrollments are sufficient for realization of readmissions and Emergency Department reductions, increased health care access, and lower costs. This resulted from consistent monitoring using the technology to alert nurses and care coordinators who were able to respond and facilitate patients accessing care in the most helpful and generally less costly care environment. Conclusion: The study has confirmed that care coordination and RPM are effective in supporting self-management of chronic conditions and cost reductions through telenursing and RPM.

BACKGROUND: Telenursing is poised to emerge as a novel healthcare delivery system in the digital age. Hence, understanding nursing students' perspectives and readiness is pivotal for its effective implementation. This study investigated nursing students' perceptions regarding, and attitudes toward, telenursing and the factors that influenced their attitudes based on the technology acceptance model. METHODS: This study used a cross-sectional descriptive approach. The participants consisted of 188 nursing students (first to fourth year) enrolled in the College of Nursing in Korea. Differences in attitudes toward telenursing were analyzed using independent t-test and one-way analysis of variance. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to examine the correlations between the main variables. Factors that influenced attitudes toward telenursing were analyzed using multiple regression. RESULTS: Of the participants, 65.4% lacked substantial awareness of telenursing and 19.1% had prior telenursing experience. Although prospects on telenursing indicated that 90.4% had an optimistic view, face-to-face nursing was heavily preferred for both satisfactory and favored healthcare delivery. Many cited the Internet as their source of knowledge, and only 18.6% had received telenursing education. Attitude toward telenursing was significantly more positive among those with experience of telenursing, telenursing observation in clinical practice, and telenursing education exposure. The regression model was statistically significant (F = 67.445, p < .000). Factors, such as perceived usefulness, social influence, innovativeness, and self-efficacy, influenced attitudes toward telenursing. CONCLUSIONS: Nursing students exhibited a lack of substantial awareness of telenursing; however, they simultaneously displayed a positive outlook. This lack of comprehensive understanding could stem from the absence of formal education in telenursing. Understanding and utilizing the potential of telenursing could be significantly aided by nursing students' education and knowledge. Thus, it is necessary to include telenursing education in the nursing curriculum. The skills and knowledge required for telenursing clinical practice can be developed through telenursing education. Such preparedness will affect nurses' attitudes and intentions and the quality of telenursing offered to patients in the future.

BACKGROUND: During the COVID-19 pandemic, decentralised clinical trials incorporated self-monitoring, self-reporting, and telenursing tools to address health literacy and health empowerment of patients enrolled in clinical trials. We aimed to determine the impact of an educational intervention using telenursing consultations on health literacy, health empowerment, and health-related quality of life in cancer patients enrolled in clinical trials by measuring the level of satisfaction with the care received and assessing the views of healthcare professionals concerning the advanced practice nurse (APN) role in oncology clinical trials. METHODS: In this pilot analytical, descriptive, longitudinal, quasi-experimental, and pre-post test study, an educational intervention was conducted by 5 visits with an APN using synchronous teleconsultation in patients starting cancer treatment for the first time in a clinical trial (n = 60), and health professionals working with the APN (n = 31). A descriptive analysis of the samples and questionnaires were utilised along with statistical comparisons. RESULTS: After the intervention, patients' health literacy (31.7%), health empowerment (18.3%), and health-related quality of life (33.3%) increased (p < 0.05), with a decrease and trend towards resolution of care needs (p < 0.05). Satisfaction with the quality and care received in terms of perceived convenience, transition, and continuity of care showed positive results in 64.9 ± 20.7, 77.6 ± 19.5, and 72.1 ± 20.4 of respondents, respectively. On the overall assessment of the APN role, healthcare professionals expressed a high level of agreement with the statements related to their work performance. CONCLUSIONS: The data indicates that a clinical trial APN-led telenursing educational intervention results in an overall increase in health literacy, an improvement in health empowerment and health-related quality of life, and a decrease in care needs of oncology clinical trials patients. Patients stated that they received a high quality of care and health professionals indicated high levels of acceptance with APNs. Based on these results, we suggest that the APN role should gain more recognition in the Spanish healthcare system and their professional competencies should be aligned with those of other countries.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the opinions of nursing professionals on the current limitations and future potential of digital tools in healthcare. DESIGN: Qualitative and descriptive study. LOCATION: The study took place during an asynchronous MOODLE course on the use of ICT in healthcare, specifically aimed at nursing professionals. PARTICIPANTS: The number of nurses enrolled in the course was 150. METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted focusing on the positive and negative aspects that telenursing can offer in the context of a Moodle training in new technologies for nurses. A thematic analysis was carried out following the method proposed by Braun and Clarke. RESULTS: In the end 68 nurses participated in the forum. Their statements, opinions and perceptions were analyzed and 28 descriptive codes were obtained and subsequently categorized into positive and negative aspects. CONCLUSIONS: Nurses positively value the usefulness of digital tools and identify a wide range of benefits of telenursing in daily practice. At the same time, they point out crucial limitations that may slow down the adoption of telenursing, pointing to areas for improvement such as training and digital literacy of both patients and professionals. They consider that telenursing can humanise care, but insist on the need to prevent its use from increasing health inequalities.

BACKGROUND: Fatigue is one of the most common problems in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and has adverse effects on their sleep status and self-efficacy. This study aimed to determine the effect of distance nurse-led fatigue management on fatigue, sleep quality, and self-efficacy in patients with MS. METHODS: This quasi-experimental study was performed on 60 patients with MS in Arak, Iran. Subjects were randomly assigned into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received eight sessions of nurse-led fatigue management training through the Skyroom platform. The control group received only the usual programs. Data were collected before and two months after the intervention using the Fatigue Severity Scale, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the Multiple Sclerosis Self-Efficacy Scale. The significance level in this study was determined 0.05. RESULTS: After the intervention, the mean score of fatigue severity in the intervention group was significantly lower than the control group (2.52 ± 0.40 vs 5.65 ± 0.52) (P < 0.001). Also, after the intervention, the mean score of self-efficacy in the intervention group was significantly higher than the control group (49.37 ± 3.25 vs 24.43 ± 2.52) (P < 0.001). Furthermore, after the intervention the mean score of sleep quality was lower in intervention group (11.92 ± 2.01) than the control group (15.46 ± 1.40) (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Distance nurse-led fatigue management improved fatigue, sleep quality, and self-efficacy in patients with MS. We recommend the use of these courses as an important step toward improving fatigue, sleep quality, and self-efficacy among these patients.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to determine the effect of telephone counseling based on Orem's Self-Care Model on adherence to treatment and resilience of patients with coronary angioplasty. METHODS: This randomized clinical trial was performed on 80 patients in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Patients were randomly divided into two groups of 40 (intervention and control). Questionnaires on adherence to treatment of chronic patients and resilience for patients with cardiovascular and respiratory diseases were filled out before and 8 weeks after the intervention. In the intervention group, the telephone call schedule consisted of three calls per week for 8 weeks. RESULTS: Before the intervention, no significant difference was found between the groups about adherence to treatment and resilience. However, after the intervention, a significant difference was found between the groups as to adherence to treatment and resilience (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Nursing consultation using telephone calls based on Orem's model increases the adherence to treatment and resilience of patients undergoing coronary angioplasty. Telephone counseling can help the patients adhere to their treatment plans and develop resilience skills.

AIM: To gain staff feedback on the implementation and impact of a novel ambulatory monitoring system to support coronavirus patient management on an isolation ward. DESIGN: Qualitative service evaluation. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 multidisciplinary isolation ward staff in the United Kingdom between July 2020 and May 2021. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis. FINDINGS: Adopting Innovation to Assist Patient Safety was identified as the overriding theme. Three interlinked sub-themes represent facets of how the system supported patient safety. Patient Selection was developed throughout the pandemic, as clinical staff became more confident in choosing which patients would benefit most. Trust In the System described how nurses coped with discrepancies between the ambulatory system and ward observation machines. Finally, Resource Management examined how, once trust was built, staff perceived the ambulatory system assisted with caseload management. This supported efficient personal protective equipment resource use by reducing the number of isolation room entries. Despite these reported benefits, face-to-face contact was still highly valued, despite the risk of coronavirus exposure. CONCLUSION: Hospital wards should consider using ambulatory monitoring systems to support caseload management and patient safety. Patients in isolation rooms or at high risk of deterioration may particularly benefit from this additional monitoring. However, these systems should be seen as an adjunct to nursing care, not a replacement. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE PROFESSION AND/OR PATIENT CARE: Nurses valued ambulatory monitoring as a means of ensuring the safety of patients at risk of deterioration and prioritizing their workload. IMPACT: The findings of this research will be useful to all those developing or considering implementation of ambulatory monitoring systems in hospital wards. REPORTING METHOD: This manuscript follows the Consolidated criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ) guidelines with inclusion of relevant SQUIRE guidelines for reporting quality improvement. OBJECTIVE: We implemented augmented reality (AR) in remote consultations for enhanced pressure injury (PI) care in homecare nursing and improved the efficiency of on-site technical education for homecare nurses. The study aimed to depict expert techniques using AR technology to improve PI healing time in a male patient. METHOD: We developed and implemented a new system that combines a transparent hand with an image and gives an output as a video image in the existing remote consultation software. The system was used to support remote care of PIs by nurses. RESULTS: We succeeded in superimposing the expert nurse's nonverbal hand gestures onto the patient's wound in real time. The visiting nurse's understanding of the system had improved and there was an improvement in the patient's PI healing. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that remote consultation using AR is effective to observe precise wound care demonstrations of the steps of the PI treatment and provide effective treatment.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine the relationship between the demand for telenursing and the chronic illness resources available to patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), as well as the factors that affect this requirement. DESIGN: Cross-sectional. METHODS: This study included 586 participants with T2DM. A telenursing needs questionnaire developed by the research team was used to assess the telenursing needs of patients with T2DM, and the Chinese version of the Chronic Illness Resources Survey was used to assess the participants' community chronic disease resources. A one-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis were used to determine the factors influencing the demand for telenursing and to estimate the relationship between chronic illness resources and the need for telenursing. The STROBE checklist was followed. RESULTS: The patients' telenursing needs, ranked from high to low, are as follows: individualized skills and safety; basic disease care; psychological and spiritual needs; respect and social support; and high-level health management. The chronic disease resource score was 3.47 ± .02, which suggested that patients with T2DM have relatively rich disease resources. Multiple regression analyses showed that resources for chronic diseases, the course of diabetes and complications, family income and other chronic diseases accounted for 79.6% of the variance in T2DM patients' telenursing needs. CONCLUSIONS: The telenursing needs of patients with T2DM are prominent, and primarily focus on basic nursing needs for the disease. To some extent, chronic disease resources affect the telenursing needs of patients with T2DM. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: It is crucial to pay attention to research on telenursing for T2DM patients from the patients' perspective. Enhancing resources for chronic diseases may help meet the telenursing needs of T2DM patients. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to explore caller satisfaction with interaction, and the association to overall satisfaction with calls. BACKGROUND: In the era of expanding healthcare at distance, the telephone remains a common tool for the provision of nursing care. Interaction between telenurse and caller in telenursing is vital for safety, satisfaction and adherence reasons. Few studies have quantitatively explored interaction in calls and how it relates to overall satisfaction with calls. DESIGN: Cross-sectional survey study with a deductive approach. METHODS: A total of 466 callers to the Swedish Medical Advisory Service completed the Telenursing Interaction and Satisfaction Questionnaire. Satisfaction with four theoretically defined components of interaction were compared using repeated measures ANOVA. Associations between satisfaction with interaction and overall satisfaction with calls were evaluated with ordinal logistic regression models with and without adjustment for age, sex, health status, waiting time, time for call, main result of the call and expectations. The study followed the STROBE checklist. RESULTS: Callers were most satisfied with affective support, followed by professional-technical competence, health information and decisional control-in that order. A summated score of satisfaction with interaction was positively and significantly associated with overall satisfaction with calls before and after adjustment for waiting time, main result of call and variables related to the individual caller. CONCLUSIONS: Caller satisfaction with interaction is generally high but can be improved, especially regarding decisional control. Satisfaction with interaction is important for overall satisfaction with calls. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: This study provides support for professionals at all levels in telenursing organisations to pay attention to interactional matters. The development of best practice for telenurses needs to consider all four components of interaction to enhance satisfaction with calls.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explore whether an intervention using visual telehealth improves care outcomes for residents in residential aged care facilities during acute illness events from the perspective of the nurses from residential aged care facilities and emergency departments. The intervention was the addition of visual telehealth, to an already existing outreach service called Aged Care Emergency. BACKGROUND: Older people who are residents of residential aged care facilities commonly experience potentially avoidable visits and hospitalisations. Adopting visual telehealth or telemedicine has emerged as a care transition solution across several domains in health care, including residential aged care. METHOD: This study used an interpretive descriptive methodological approach and was part of a larger study called the PACE-IT project that implemented a visual telehealth assisted model of care in four emergency departments and 16 residential aged care facilities to prevent unnecessary resident presentations to emergency departments. We report findings from six focus groups that explored key issues relating to the experiences of emergency department and residential aged care nurses who participated in the PACE-IT project. This study adhered to COREQ research guidelines. RESULTS: There were four overarching themes that emerged from the six focus groups; facilitated person centred care; built confidence, relationships and trust; enabled bidirectional communication that strengthens decision making, but there were issues with technology access, connectivity and usability between the acute care setting and the residential aged care facility. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: Understanding the experiences of residential aged care facility and emergency nurses' experiences when using visual telehealth will better inform practice development in aged care, in particular enhancing decision making and increasing safe practices using telehealth. The knowledge gained in this study in terms of enhanced assessments for residents will provide policy makers with valuable insights for future health care planning and implementation of telehealth. Purpose: This systematic review aimed to identify the types and effectiveness of telenursing in home health care (HHC) compared to conventional HHC. Methods: This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis 2020 guidelines. A random-effects meta-analysis was performed. The risk of bias was assessed using the Risk of Bias 2.0 tool. The quality of bias was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation system. Results: A total of 17 studies published between 2003 and 2022 were included in the review. The majority of the targeted health conditions of the patients were chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or congestive heart failure (70%). We categorized telenursing interventions according to different technology (N = 4) and nursing (N = 7) types. Among the identified types of nursing, fundamental nursing to monitor patients' symptoms was the most representative. Telemonitoring was found to be the most common technology type, followed by synchronous technology using video or telephone. The telenursing outcomes, including health care utilization, physiological/psychological outcomes, and quality of life, varied. In the meta-analysis, participants who received telenursing reported fewer hospital admissions (standardized mean difference [SMD]: -0.18; confidence interval [95% CI]: -0.43 to -0.02) and emergency department visits (SMD: -0.28; 95% CI: -0.45 to -0.10). Conclusion: Telenursing in HHC tends to improve the quality of life and could result in many benefits, including a reduction in health care utilization and facilitating the management of chronic diseases. These results ultimately represent the potential effectiveness of telenursing in community health care settings.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: Interaction between caller and telenurse in telenursing is important for caller satisfaction and subsequent compliance. Despite this, satisfaction measures with focus on interaction in telenursing are scarce and rarely anchored in nursing theory. The aim was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Telenursing Interaction and Satisfaction Scale (TISS) with focus on data quality, factor structure, convergent validity, and reliability. METHODOLOGICAL DESIGN AND JUSTIFICATION: This psychometric study was based on cross-sectional data. RESEARCH METHODS, INSTRUMENTS, AND/OR INTERVENTIONS: Callers to the National Medical Advisory Service in Sweden (n = 616) completed the 60-item Telenursing Interaction and Satisfaction Questionnaire based on Cox's Interaction Model of Client Health Behavior. Twenty-five of these items were selected to form the TISS in four subscales according to the model. Data quality was evaluated in terms of missing data patterns and score distributions. The factor structure was evaluated with confirmatory factor analysis for ordinal data, convergent validity with Spearman correlations, internal consistency with ordinal alpha, scale reliability with composite reliability coefficients, and test-retest reliability with intraclass correlations. RESULTS: The amount of missing data was acceptable and equally distributed. Data deviated significantly from a normal distribution. All response options were endorsed. The factor analysis confirmed the hypothesised four-factor structure; factor loadings ranged from 0.56 to 0.97 and factor correlations were high (0.88-0.96). Internal consistency (ordinal alpha = 0.82-0.97), scale reliability (0.88-0.99), and test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.77-0.86) were satisfactory for all scales. STUDY LIMITATIONS: The study design did not allow drop-out analysis. CONCLUSIONS: The TISS showed satisfactory psychometric properties in the study sample. It provides a measure that enables quantitative measurement of caller satisfaction with interaction in telenursing.

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to determine if postoperative nurse-driven telehealth visits for patients undergoing septorhinoplasty decreased patient anxiety while improving comfort and satisfaction levels. DESIGN: The present study was an intervention-control study completed with a total of 320 participants (n = 160, intervention group; n = 160, control group). The intervention postseptorhinoplasty training using the telenursing method was conducted at three time points in this study; preoperatively-postoperatively, on days 3, and 10. METHODS: Data were collected from a group of patients undergoing septorhinoplasty in the Ear, Nose, and Throat department of a University Hospital in Turkey between October 2021 and February 2022. The data collected in the study were evaluated with the SPSS 23.00 program and were analyzed with the independent sample t test for two independent groups and the F test (ANOVA) for more than two groups. Correlation analysis was performed to examine the relationship between scales, and P < .05 was considered statistically significant. FINDINGS: In the postoperative period, the mean anxiety inventory score of the experimental group was found to be significantly lower than that of the control group (P < .01). Telenursing increased the satisfaction and comfort of the patients and shortened the discharge time. There was a negative and statistically significant relationship between satisfaction and State Anxiety Inventory and Trait Anxiety Inventory (r = -0.715, r = -0.739, P < .01). CONCLUSIONS: This study confirms the importance of postoperative telenursing for septorhinoplasty patients in promoting continuity of care, reducing anxiety and discharge time, improving comfort and satisfaction levels during the Covid-19 pandemic. Remote care was well received during the study and should be used more frequently. There is a need for further research regarding telehealth; and the international incentives and regulations which will be needed to make telenursing a standard of care should be pursued.

BACKGROUND: Telenursing facilitates access to efficient care and acceptance and compliance with treatment at home. Given wide complications of lack of compliance with treatment in causing complications and progression of diabetes and role of the family in attending the patient, this study aimed to investigate the effect of telenursing training based on family-centered empowerment pattern on compliance with diet regimen in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. METHODS: This was a randomized controlled clinical trial. The study population was patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 referred to Alzhara hospital at Gilan Gharb in 2019, of which 60 individuals out of them were classified randomly into two groups of intervention and control. Eight 30-min sessions of family-centered training were held through telenursing for the intervention group. Data were gathered before and after the intervention by standard questionnaire of Mudanlo in both groups and was analyzed using SPSS software version 22. RESULTS: There was no significant difference among the two intervention and control groups before the study regarding demographic variables (p > 0.05). The scores of subscales of making effort for treatment, intention to take the treatment, adaptability, integrating illness into life, stick to the treatment, indecisiveness for applying treatment, and total score of compliance were significantly increased after training intervention (p = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Results of the study indicates positive effects of performing family-centered empowerment pattern using telephone call follow-up on increasing compliance with diet regimen in patients. Therefore, it is recommended to perform family-centered patterns in health policy-makings and also hospitals and other diabetic patients.
