ABSTRACT

Three cases of a recently established entity named "ossifying fibromyxoid tumor of soft parts" (OFMT) were studied histologically, ultrastructurally and by immunohistochemistry. All three tumors were stated in women from 48 to 54 years of age. One tumor was situated superficially in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. Other two tumors were deep-seated, with more diffuse and abundant ossification also in tumor free parts. In one of cases radiological and histological signs of chondroosteosarcomatous features in the ossifying parts of the tumor were stated. In two cases histologically and ultrastructurally multinucleated, vimentin and S-100 protein positive "fibroblastoid" cells were found. The histological and electron microscopic investigations did not rule out the possibility that the tumor cells have also potential properties of osteoblasts, but on the basis of histological, ultrastructural and immunohistochemical data it seems that these tumors are of mesenchymal multipotential derivatives of fibroblastoid origins.

ABSTRACT

Two cases of haemangiomatous lesions in lymph nodes are described in this paper. They were recorded from a pelvic lymph node of a gravid woman. 42 years old, with adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix, and from an axillary lymph node of a woman, aged 57 years, with malignant cystosarcoma phyllodes of the breast with chondro-osteoid and osteoblastic differentiation. The haemangiomatous lesions were situated cortically or paracortically and composed of round, densely arranged, dilated capillary blood vessels with walls lined by one single endothelial layer. Comparison with the few cases so far published supports the assumption that the differences described may have been caused by development phases of the lesions, but are in fact one nosological entity.

ABSTRACT

The identification of emboli of the pulmonary arterioles with foreign bodies by means of morphologic examination was made in 5 infants aged from 8 days to 5 months. Positive results of special staining procedures of foreign bodies, particularly when applying for the first time a dye Siriusrot F3B, used in the textile industry, permitted an identification of the bodies localized both intra- and extravascularly as cotton fibres. The origin of fibres, tissue reactions, and the pathogenetic significance of the emboli due to foreign bodies are discussed.

ABSTRACT

Three cases of adenomatoid tumor of the uterus in women aged 30, 40 and 49 years, and three cases of the tumor situated in the oviducts in women aged 39, 43 and 50 years were analyzed micro- and macroscopically. A tubulo-canalicular, a microcystic and a mixed form were distinguished. Inflammatory changes in the oviducts, myomas and myomatosis of the uterus seem to be conducive to growth of adenomatoid tumor. The authors emphasize the diversity of microscopic structure, creating difficulties of differential diagnosis. Some histochemical reactions may be useful in diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

Immunohistochemical findings are reported from an endocrinologically active tumor of the liver hilus in a 39 year old woman. Clinical findings were dominated by difficult to control hypokalemia, cholelithiasis and mild hypoglycemia. Immunohistochemical studies demonstrated somatostatin, beta-HCG and neuron-specific enolase in the tumor cells. No further tumor was found at autopsy. Review of the literature relating to the previously reported tumors of the hepatobiliary system demonstrates great variability in these neoplasms with respect to histologic structure, staining characteristics, ultrastructure, results of immunohistochemical studies and clinical manifestations.

ABSTRACT

A case of benign polypoid rhabdomyoma of the vagina in a 57 years old multipara is reported. The diagnosis confirmed by light and electron microscopy, allowed to estimate the tumour as a benign analogen of sarcoma botryoides.

ABSTRACT

Post mortem examinations of 8 infants, 11 d to 5 months old and one 12 year old girl, demonstrated foreign bodies in the lungs which could be identified as orally administered drugs: cholestyramine (Questran) and phenobarbital (Luminal, Gardenal) or phenydantin-components. The microscopic changes caused by such deposits and the histologic methods of identifying medicines are presented. The authors point to the role of aspiration in deposit formation and to the pseudomiliary granulomatous nature of subsequent changes. It is proposed to define the alterations as a separate form of aspiratory lesion in children.

ABSTRACT

Studies were conducted by means of optical light and electron microscopy into two cases of rhabdomyoma of a fetal type in the vagina of a patient, 42 years of age, and in the ectocervical region of a patient aged 39 years. Both cases were similar to one another for optical and ultrastructural features and revealed high maturity of the rhabdomyomatous cells in tumors. A review of the literature would reveal the cases presented to be the 20th case of a vaginal tumor and the 3rd case of ectocervical tumor so far described as rhabdomyomas of the female genital tract.
