ABSTRACT

We devise a way to calculate the dimensions of symmetry sectors appearing in the particle entanglement spectrum (PES) and real space entanglement spectrum (RSES) of multiparticle systems from their real space wave functions. We first note that these ranks in the entanglement spectra equal the dimensions of spaces of wave functions with a number of particles fixed. This also yields equality of the multiplicities in the PES and the RSES. Our technique allows numerical calculations for much larger systems than were previously feasible. For somewhat smaller systems, we can find approximate entanglement energies as well as multiplicities. We illustrate the method with results on the RSES and PES multiplicities for integer quantum Hall states, Laughlin and Jain composite fermion states, and for the Moore-Read state at filling ν = 5/2 for system sizes up to 70 particles.

ABSTRACT

Ayahuasca is a psychedelic blend originating from South America that has been used for hundreds of years by local tribes in ritualistic ceremonies. For the last few decades, its usage has expanded to North America in various mindfulness retreats that can benefit from its hallucinogenic properties. In this case report, our patient had attended a satanic ritual where he had consumed copious amounts of Ayahuasca over three days. Upon his return, he continued having demonic hallucinations along with paranoid delusion with increasing bouts of nausea and vomiting. He was brought in by first responders due to suicidal ideations, and shortly after arrival, he became unresponsive with seizure-like activity. The patient was evaluated to be comatose with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 3, and upon securing the airway, was transferred to the critical care unit. Laboratory results showed a case of hypoosmolar hyponatremia secondary to syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH), and following the supportive care, he was able to recover within four days of admission. We theorize that due to the similarity in the pharmacodynamics of the active compound of Ayahuasca, and drugs such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) and 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), it can result in SIADH in its users.

ABSTRACT

Thrombosis following COVID-19 vaccination commonly occurs with vector-based vaccines. The proposed mechanism is vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT), with thrombocytopenia as principal manifestation. We present a 51-year-old male who came with isolated portal vein thrombosis (PVT) one day after Moderna vaccination, without associated thrombocytopenia, challenging VITT as being the only patho-mechanism. Further exploration of these possible alternative mechanisms is needed for COVID-19 vaccine-related thrombotic complications.

ABSTRACT

Prostate cancer (PCa) screening remains one of the most controversial topics in clinical and public health. Despite being the second most common cancer in men worldwide, recommendations for screening using prostate-specific antigen (PSA) are unclear. Early detection and the resulting postscreening treatment lead to overdiagnosis and overtreatment of otherwise indolent cases. In addition, several unwanted harms are associated with PCa screening process. This literature review focuses on the limitations of PSA-specific PCa screening, reasons behind the screening controversy, and the novel biomarkers and advanced innovative methodologies that improve the limitations of traditional screening using PSA. With the verdict of whether or not to screen not yet unanimous, we hope to aid in resolution of the long-standing debate.
