ABSTRACT

A notable advancement in fuzzy set theory is the q-rung linear diophantine fuzzy set. The soft set theory was expanded into the hypersoft set theory. By combining both the q-rung linear diophantine fuzzy set and hypersoft set, this study describes the notion of q-rung linear diophantine fuzzy hypersoft set that can handle multi sub-attributed q-rung linear diophantine fuzzy situations in the real world. Furthermore, some of its algebraic operations such as union, intersection and complement are described in this study. In addtion, the entropy measure of the q-rung linear diophantine fuzzy hypersoft set is established as it is helpful in determining the degree of fuzziness of q-rung linear diophantine fuzzy hypersoft sets. A multi-attribute decision making algorithm based on suggested entropy is presented in this study along with a numerical example of selecting a suitable wastewater treatment technology to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in real-life situations. A comparative study was undertaken that describes the validity, robustness and superiority of the proposed algorithm and notions by discussing the advantages and drawbacks of existing theories and algorithms. Overall, this study describes a novel fuzzy extension that prevails over the existing ones and contributes to the real world with a valid real-life multi-attribute decision making algorithm that can cover many real-world problems that are unable to be addressed by the existing methodology.

ABSTRACT

Nanomaterials frequently draw a lot of interest in a variety of disciplines, including electrochemistry. Developing a reliable electrode modifier for the selective electrochemical detection of the analgesic bioflavonoid i.e., Rutinoside (RS) is a great challenge. Here in, we have explored the supercritical-CO2 (SC-CO2) mediated synthesis of bismuth oxysulfide (SC-BiOS) and reported it as a robust electrode modifier for the detection of RS. For a comparison study, the same preparation procedure was carried out in the conventional approach (C-BiS). The morphology, crystallography, optical, and elemental contribution analyses were characterized to understand the paradigm shift in the physicochemical properties between SC-BiOS and C-BiS. The results exposed the C-BiS had a nano-rod-like structure with a crystallite size of 11.57 nm; whereas the SC-BiOS had a nano-petal-like structure with a crystallite size of 9.03 nm. The B2g mode in the optical analysis confirms the formation of bismuth oxysulfide by the SC-CO2 method with the Pmnn space group. As an electrode modifier, the SC-BiOS achieved a higher effective surface area (0.074 cm2), higher electron transfer kinetics (0.13 cm s-1), and lower charge transfer resistance (403 Ω) than C-BiS. Further, it provided a wide linear range of 0.1-610.5 µM L-1 with a low detection and quantification limit of 9 and 30nM L-1 and an appreciable sensitivity of 0.706 µA µM-1 cm-2. The selectivity, repeatability, and real-time application towards the environmental water sample with a recovery of 98.87% were anticipated for the SC-BiOS. This SC-BiOS unlocks a fresh avenue to construct a design for the family of electrode modifiers utilized in electrochemical applications.

ABSTRACT

A 20-year-old girl was diagnosed to have severe coarctation of the aorta, large patent ductus arteriosus and severe pulmonary artery hypertension. She underwent single therapeutic catheterization for the treatment of native coarctation of aorta and closure of ductus arteriosus using 39 mm long Cheatham-Platinum covered stent. The procedure was done successfully under local anesthesia without any complication. This appears to be a safe strategy while dealing with an adolescent or an adult with this combination of lesions.

ABSTRACT

We present two cases of pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect who were not suitable for corrective surgery due to absent or hypoplastic native pulmonary arteries and were quite symptomatic following shunt surgery. We dilated and stented stenosed aortopulmonary collaterals as palliative procedure with improvement in oxygen saturation, and significant symptomatic relief.

ABSTRACT

Headache following lumbar puncture is a well known and well described complication. Various manoeuvres have been tried to prevent post lumbar puncture headache--the commonest being bed rest for 4 to 24 hours following lumbar puncture, though its value is questionable. Randomised controlled clinical trial was done to evaluate the effect of 24 hours bed rest on the incidence and severity of post lumbar puncture headaches. Two hundred and eight patients were randomly allocated to either the ambulant or the bed rest group. Patients were interviewed by a single investigator on days 0, 1, 2 and 7 about the presence and nature of headache. Other relevant clinical and laboratory data pertaining to the lumbar puncture was collected. The overall incidence of post lumbar puncture headache was 17%; 15% in the ambulant and 18% in the bed rest group. Of the patients who had headaches, severe headache was observed in 57% in the ambulant and 12% in the bed rest group (p = 0.02). Other variables did not alter the outcome of headaches. Bed rest does not appear to alter the incidence of post lumbar puncture headaches, but reduces the severity in those who get headaches, after a lumbar puncture.

ABSTRACT

This randomized controlled trial study evaluated the intubating conditions at 1 minute after 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 mg/kg of rocuronium in 60 Thai elderly patients who enrolled for elective surgery under general anesthesia with fentanyl, thiopental and halothane at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. Excellent or good conditions were observed in 50 per cent (p<0.05) at rocuronium 0.3 mg/kg, compared with 95 and 85 per cent at 0.6 and 0.9 mg/kg of rocuronium, respectively but the excellent conditions were 5 (p<0.05), 30 and 45 per cent from each dose. Therefore, rocuronium 0.6 or 0.9 mg/kg should be adequate for intubation in elective, elderly patients but was inadequate for emergency case. In addition, rocuronium 0.3 mg/kg is insufficient for intubation at 1 minute in this age group. No serious side effects of the drug nor complications were found in this study.

ABSTRACT

Single crystal of 2 mol% L-Proline doped Bis Thiourea Zinc Acetate (BTZA), a semi organic nonlinear optical material has been grown using slow evaporation technique. Good quality single crystal with dimension 11×7×3 mm(3) was harvested after 30 days. The influence of amino acid L-Proline was studied for 1, 2 and 3 mol% L-Proline doped BTZA using Kurtz and Perry powder second harmonic generation test. This was compared with pure BTZA which confirms the enhancement of second harmonic generation property of L-Proline doped BTZA. Better enhancement was found in 2 mol% L-Proline doping. The grown crystal was characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction, Fourier Transform Infra Red spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis, UV-Visible absorption and thermogravimetric analysis.

ABSTRACT

A preterm infant developed recurrent, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) on administration of steroids which resolved after discontinuation of the drug. Following a course of hydrocortisone for treatment of broncho-pulmonary dysplasia, echocardiography showed left ventricular hypertrophy with outflow tract obstruction, resolving on stopping the drug, only to recur after a second course.
