ABSTRACT

The scientific basis of acupuncture on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for treating ischemic stroke (IS) is discussed. MSCs transplantation has great potential for the treatment of tissue damage caused by early stage inflammatory cascade reactions of IS, but its actual transformation is limited by various factors. How to improve the homing efficiency of MSCs is the primary issue to enhance its efficacy. As such, the possible mechanisms of acupuncture and MSCs transplantation in inhibiting inflammatory cascade reactions induced by IS are explored by reviewing literature, and a hypothesis that acupuncture could promote the secretion of stromal cell-derived factor-1α (SDF-1α) from ischemic foci to regulate SDF-1α/CXC chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) axis, thereby improving the homing efficiency of MSCs transplantation, exerting its neuroprotective function, and improving the bed transformation ability, is proposed.

ABSTRACT

The relevant literature of pathogenesis of essential hypertension (EH) and the clinical efficacy of acupuncture treatment of EH was retrieved from January 1, 1999 to February 28, 2018 in the CNKI and PubMed databases, and aimed to summarize and explore the mechanism of antihypertensive by acupuncture.It has been found that acupuncture exerts antihypertensive effect by coordinating multi-system, multi-target, multi-layer adjustment mechanism, such as acupuncture inhibiting of central and peripheral sympathetic nerve activity, rejusting immune system and expression of inflammatory response factors, regulating the balance of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), improving vascular structure and function, the anti-oxidative stress and promoting autophagy.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness and safety of laparoscopic CY Liu non-mesh pelvic floor repair surgery in treatment of pelvic organ prolapse(POP).METHODS: From February 2016 to September 2017,a total of 83 patients with POP were treated in Zhejiang Province People's Hospital,and they were included in this retrospective study.The clinical data were retrospectively analyzed;the POP-Q scores were used as the objective evaluation indicators for POP.Analyze the changes of POP-Q indicator points after surgery,and observe surgery related data and complications.Evaluate the postoperative symptom improvement and subjective satisfaction rate of the patients using pelvic floor impact questionnaire short form(PFIQ-7).RESULTS: All surgeries of the included 83 patients were successfully finished laparoscopically.The average follow-up time was(18.88±3.82)months,but there were 8 cases of loss of follow-up.During the follow-up,the total anatomical success rate of laparoscopic CY Liu non-mesh pelvic floor repair surgery was 97.33%(73/75).The differences in POP-Q scores and PFIQ-7 scores were statistically significant before and after the surgery(P<0.05).Subjective satisfaction rate was 96.00%(72/75)after surgery.CONCLUSION: Laparoscopic CY Liu non-mesh pelvic floor repair surgery is effective in the management of Ⅱ-Ⅳ pelvic organ prolapse.There's no need for mesh,and the recurrence rate is low in short-term follow-up,which is worth paying attention to.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To report a modified transvaginal non-mesh repair surgery based on "double hammock" pelvic floor support theory,and to observe the perioperative characteristics and short-term follow-up effect.METHODS: We collected 72 patients who underwent modified transvaginal non-mesh repair surgery from October 2017 to July 2018 in the First People's Hospital of Yunnan Province.Data of perioperative,3-month,6-month and 12 month follow-up were analyzed.RESULTS: The procedures were performed successfully in 72 patients,the average operation time was(119±31)min,and the mean blood loss was(47.75±30.55)mL.No traumatic compliacations were found during the operation.The objective response rate evaluated postoperatively by POP-Q stage in short-term follow-up were 100%,and no subjective symptoms of recurrence were observed.CONCLUSION: Modified vaginal non-mesh pelvic floor repair based on the "double-layer hammock" pelvic floor support theory has the advantages of simple surgical procedure, fewer complications and good effect in the short-term. Further observation is needed to determine its long-term effectiveness.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the differential effect of joint ultrasound on the syndrome differentiation of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by observing the high frequency ultrasound performances among inactive stage and different syndromes in active stage.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Totally 83 RA patients in the active stage were assigned to the dampness heat syndrome group (DHS, 59 cases)and the cold dampness syndrome group (CDS, 24 cases) according to Chinese medicine (CM) syndrome typing. Besides, 20 RA patients in the remission stage were recruited as the control group (abbreviated as the remission group). By using high frequency ultrasound and power Doppler ultrasound technology, a comparative observation of synovitis, tenosynovitis, synovial blood flow, and bone erosion in the 2nd-5th metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints, proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joints, wrist joints, knee joints, the second and the fifth metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joints (a total of 24 joints) was performed in all patients. Correlation analyses were performed between the ultrasound performance, laboratory indices, and the disease activity. Ultrasound data of each RA patient were analyzed by their total scores. Χ2 test was used for enumeration data. The measurement data was expressed as x ± s. One-way ANOVA was used for data of normal distribution, while non- parametric test was used for data of non-normal distribution. Correlation analysis of two variables was performed for clinical indicators and ultrasound indicators. Its significance was detected using Pearson correlation.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Compared with the remission group, the severity degree of synovitis, tenosynovitis, synovial blood flow, and bone erosion significantly increased in the DHS group (P < 0.01). There was statistical difference in ESR, CRP, anti-CCP, DAS28 score, and the positive rate of RF (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). There was statistical difference in the severity degree of synovitis and synovial blood flow, and DAS28 score in the CDS group (P < 0.05). Compared with the CDS group, there was statistical difference in the four ultrasound indices (P < 0.05, P < 0.01), ESR, CRP, anti-CCP, DAS28 score, and the positive rate of RF in the DHS group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). There was no statistical difference in G, IgG, IgA, or IgM among the three groups (P > 0.05). There existed positive correlation between ESR and the synovitis degree, synovial blood flow, and bone erosion in the DHS group (r = 0.444, 0.397, 0.486, P < 0.05).There existed positive correlation between ESR and the synovitis degree, bone erosion, and synovial blood flow in the DHS group (r = 0.378, 0.270, P < 0.05). There existed positive correlation between the DAS28 score and the synovitis degree and synovial blood flow in the DHS group (r = 0.304, 0.351, P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The inflammation degree was the most severe in RA patients of DHS. High frequency ultrasound could provide better evidence for Chinese medical syndrome differentiation of RA patients.</p>

ABSTRACT

With references of historical materials and modern literature regarding acupoint characteristic, a secondary analysis on the concept, origin, related factors and research methods in present research of acupoint characteristic is performed. The acupoint characteristic should be considered as an acupoint inherent attribute that could explain physiological and pathological manifestations at the same time, including location attribute and function attribute, which is related with time and treatment method. Some re-thinking on acupoint characteristic is proposed as well as advice on further research method and direction, hoping to promote the research development of acupoint characteristic.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the CD phenotypic, protein expression and pluripotent differentiation of human hypertrophic scar fibroblasts cultured in vitro, so as to study the mechanisms of scar formation.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Fibroblasts were isolated and cultured from human hypertrophic scar of 3 cases. The cells morphology was observed by inverted microscope, and the growing state of the third passage was detected by the cell counting meter of Vi-CELL. The cell surface markers CD105, CD14, CD73, CD34, CD44, CD45 and CD90 were identified by flow cytometry. The expression of CK19, Oct-4, Nanog and vimentin was detected by immunocytochemistry, and the expression of alpha-smooth muscle actin(alpha-SMA) was tested by immunofluorescence. The differentiated potential of fibroblasts of the third passage into adipogenic, osteogenic and chondrogenic lineages was assayed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The primary passage fibroblasts showed the shape of spindle shaped or irregular polygon with a radiated or circinate of growing arrangement. The growth curve showed the cells growth was slow on the first and second day, and quick during the third to fifth day, which reached platform stage on the sixth or seventh day. The fibroblasts highly expressed mesenchymal stem cell surface markers-CD73, CD105, CD44, CD90, but not expressed hematopoietic stem cell surface markers-CD14, CD34, CD45 by flow cytometry. And positive expression of vimentin, Oct-4 and negative expression of CK19 were detected by Immunocytochemistry. Positive expression of alpha-SMA was also detected by immunofluorescence. Multidirectional differentiation induction indicated that the third passage cells could differentiate into adipogenic, osteogenic and chondrogenic lineages.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Human hypertrophic scar-derived fibroblasts show the biologic characteristics of mesenchymal stem cells, which may play an important role in wound healing and hypertrophic scar formation.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>5α-Reductase inhibitors (5α-RI) act by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), thereby preventing DHT induced benign prostatic hyperplasia. The existing 5α-RIs can be classified into two types: competitive and noncompetitive. Currently, limited evidence is available concerning the effect differences between the two types of 5α-RI on androgens. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of competitive and noncompetitive 5α-RIs on serum and intra-prostatic androgens in beagle dogs.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Twenty beagles with spontaneous benign prostatic hyperplasia were randomly allocated into two groups: epristeride group (n = 10) in which beagles were treated with epristeride at 1 mg/kg once a day for 3 months, and finasteride group (n = 10) in which beagles were treated with finasteride at 1 mg/kg once a day for 3 months. The levels of intra-prostatic testosterone and DHT were measured before treatment and on day one after three months medication. Serum levels of testosterone and DHT were measured at the same time points. Changes in androgen levels before and after treatment were analyzed, and comparisons were made within each treatment group and between treatment groups.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>After 3-month treatment, serum and intra-prostatic DHT levels all decreased significantly in both the epristeride and finasteride groups. The change of DHT in serum was significantly higher in the finasteride group (-14% and -43% in epristeride and finasteride groups respectively, with P < 0.001); however there was no significant difference in the changes of intra-prostatic DHT between the two groups (-47% and -51% in epristeride and finasteride groups, respectively, P = 0.304). The decreases in DHT levels were accompanied by reciprocal increases in serum and intra-prostatic testosterone levels. Changes of testosterone were significantly higher in finasteride group both in serum (20% and 42% in epristeride and finasteride groups, respectively, P < 0.001) and in prostate tissue (18% and 29% in epristeride and finasteride groups, respectively, P = 0.004).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Two types of 5α-RI have similar effects in reducing DHT in prostate tissue in beagles. Competitive 5α-RI may reduce serum DHT to a greater scale, and significantly increase testosterone in beagle serum and prostate.</p>

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the effects of curing the cervical spondylotic radiculopathy with the methods of Blade needle closed loosing and reduction with traction at the same time.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>From May 2006 to May 2009, 65 patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy were divided into treatment group and control group according the random number table produced by SAS Software. There were 18 males and 17 females in the treatment group,age in range from 42 to 73 years old with an average of (61.3 +/- 6.4) years, course of disease was from 8 to 42 months with an average of (23.8 +/- 13.8) months, preoperatively cervical functional score was from 4 to 17 scores with the mean of (11.45 +/- 3.31) scores. And in the control group, including 14 males and 16 females, aged from 44 to 76 years old with an average of (62.4 +/- 8.8) years, course of disease was from 7 to 43 months with an average of (24.4 +/- 16.8) months, preoperatively cervical functional score was from 4 to 18 scores with the mean of (11.40 +/- 3.24) scores. The patients of treatment group were treated with Blade needle closed loosing the specific pain point on the neck and shoulder, then immediately underwent traction and reduction after operation. And the patients of control group were treated with traditional traction. The cervical functional score were compared between the two groups at 10, 20, 180 d after treatment, including pain of neck and shoulder, limitation of motion of neck, tenderness of neck, numbness and muscle weakness of upper limb.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>(1) At the 10th day after treatment, the total score of treatment group was (15.43 +/- 3.46) scores, which was obviously higher than that of control group's (13.17 +/- 3.18) scores (P < 0.01). In different symptoms, treatment group also was better than that of control group (P < 0.05), so as in the tenderness of neck, and especially in the limitation of motion of neck and muscle weakness of upper limb decreased obviously (P < 0.01). (2) At the 20th day after treatment, the total score of treatment group was (18.00 +/- 2.94) scores, which was obviously better than that of control group's (15.90 +/- 2.89) scores (P < 0.01). In different symptoms, treatment group also was better than that of control group (P < 0.05), so as in the pain of neck and shoulder, numbness and muscle weakness of upper limb (P < 0.05), and especially in the limitation of motion of neck, tenderness of neck decreased obviously (P < 0.01). (3) At the 180th day after treatment, the total score of treatment group was (16.63 +/- 3.32) scores, which was obviously better than that of control group's (12.67 +/- 3.42) scores (P < 0.01); In different symptoms, treatment group also was better than that of control group (P < 0.05), so as in the numbness of upper limb (P < 0.05), and especially in the pain of neck and shoulder, muscle weakness of upper limb, limitation of motion of neck, tenderness of neck decreased obviously (P < 0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Compared with method of traditional traction, Blade needle closed loosing and traction in treating cervical spondylotic radiculopathy can significantly obtain clinical effects,which can quickly improve symptoms, relieve pain of neck and shoulder, limitation of motion of neck, tenderness of neck, numbness and muscle weakness of upper limb.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the effects of cervical vertebrae degeneration on traumatic cervical cord injury.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>From January 2009 to December 2010, 24 patients with cervical cord injury without obvious fractures and dislocations were treated with operation, and their data were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, 16 males and 8 females, aged from 46 to 70 years old with an average of 59.1 years. Patients were divided into light degeneration group (6 cases), moderate degeneration group (10 cases) and severe degeneration group (8 cases), according to the preoperative degenerative degree of cervical vertebrae. Preoperative neurological dysfunction and postoperative neurological recovery were compared according to the JOA scores of Japanese Orthopaedic Society; quality of life were evaluated according to SF-36 scale (36-item Short Form Health Survey, SF-36).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>All patients were followed up from 4 to 16 months with an average of 12 months. The JOA score of light, moderate, severe degeneration group were 12.1 +/- 1.5, 10.3 +/- 1.8, 7.3 +/- 1.0, respectively; and were respectively increased to 16.3 +/- 1.0, 15.3 +/- 1.4, 13.0 +/- 2.3 at the 3 months after operation. Postoperative JOA score showed the improvement rate of mid-long-term neurological level was light degeneration group (89.8%) > moderate degeneration group (76.6%) > severe degeneration group (58.8%). The results of preoperative SF-36 scale showed light degeneration group > moderate degeneration group > severe degeneration group; there was significant difference in comparison of two groups (P < 0.05 ).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Cervical degeneration is an important pathologic basis and risk factor in traumatic cervical cord injury, and the degenerative degree will directly influence the injury degree and prognosis of neurological function, the clinical relationship between them should be sufficiently paid attention to.</p>

ABSTRACT

Differences in design and implementation of clinical research on hypertension treatment with acupuncture and moxibustion were analyzed in this article so as to provide experiences to the design of clinical research on its treatment. Through document retrieval, it can be acquired that results of high quality clinical researches on treatment of hypertension with acupuncture and moxibustion have already been published. However, limitations in terms of sample size calculation, stochastic method, implementation of the blind method, selection of the control group and report on implementation process still existed in domestic documents. Therefore, high quality design proposals which not only in compliance with the features of acupuncture-moxibustion, but also accepted by modern medicine should be established with the combination of the advantages of acupuncture-moxibustion and clinical features of the disease. Moreover, standardizations on measuring the blood pressure, sample size calculation, selection of the control measurements, stochastic method and implementation of the blind methods should be established as well.

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the efficacy and the feasibility of bending rod reduction in situ technique in treating low lumbar burst fracture.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>From March 2007 to June 2009, 21 patients with low lumbar burst fracture were retrospectively analyzed, 11 cases were in L3,6 in L4 and 4 in L5. There were 16 males and 5 females, ranging in age from 25 to 59 year with an average of 37.9 years. According to ASIA classification, nerve function was level A in 2 cases, level B in 2, level C in 10, level D in 4 and level E in 3. Pedicle screws were implanted and bending rod reduction in situ technique was applied through posterior approach. Radiographic and neurological scores were compared before and after operation.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>All patients were followed up from 12 to 39 months with an average of 16.5 months. Radiographic examinations demonstrated that anterior height of fractured vertebral body was from 57.9% preoperatively to 94.1% postoperatively (P < 0.01 ); sagittal index was from 29.1 preoperatively to 0.240 postoperatively (P < 0.01). Spinal canal occupation ratio was from 49.6% preoperatively to 13.4% postoperatively (P < 0.01). Nerve function was level A in 2 cases,level B in 0, level C in 0, level D in 4 and level E in 15.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Bending rod in situ technique could achieve 3-column reduction in 3-dimentionally at the same time, and reconstruct the stability of low lumbar.</p>

ABSTRACT

Conventional randomized controlled trial is considered as the gold standard of clinical trials in evalua ting pharmacologic effectiveness. Whereas, it still has some faults in the non-pharmacy interventions, such as surgery, acupuncture, massage, etc. Expertise-based randomized controlled trial makes up for some deficiencies of conventional randomized controlled trial, which has made better developments in the field of surgery, however, there is no any relevant retrieval literature found in the acupuncture field. It is feasible and practical of the expertise-based randomized controlled trial to be applied and promoted in the acupuncture-moxibustion clinical research for a further degree. Expertise-based randomized controlled trials might become the trend of acupuncture-moxibustion clinical stu dies in the future.

ABSTRACT

To explore the effect of cerebral function imaging in research on the acupoints specificity. Relevant literatures are retrieved and their results are compared. The results reveals as the follows: (1) Acupuncture can ameliorate cerebral blood flow hypoperfusion in patients with cerebrovascular disease, which maybe one of the mechanisms of acupuncture effect; (2) Acupuncture treatment has selectivity regulation role, which is related to the state of body and brain; (3) Cerebral function imaging can draw a clear distinction between therapeutic effect and placebo effect of acupuncture; (4) The points have specificity on the brain activation, but the outcomes are not exactly the same under different experimental conditions. Cerebral function imaging can be used to exploring acupoints specificity. Due to many interference factors which influence the accuracy of experiment, the subsequent experimental design have to be improved in the days ahead so as to make the results more cogent and rigorous.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effects of the computer-assisted semen analysis (CASA) on human sperm movement parameters at different times after semen collection.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Ninety-two semen samples with sperm density > or = 20 x 10(6)/ml and sperm liquefaction time < 20 min were placed in a incubation box at the temperature of 37 degrees C. Then the seminal parameters were analyzed with the computer-assisted semen analysis (CASA) system at 20, 30, 60 and 90 min after semen collection.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The percentages of grade a and b sperm were significantly lower at 30, 60 and 90 min than at 20 min (P < 0.05), so were the percentages of grade c sperm at 60 and 90 min than at 20 and 30 min (P < 0.05), but there were no significant differences in the percentage of grade c sperm between the 20-min and 30-min groups (P > 0.05). The percentages of grade a + b and a + b + c sperm were also significantly lower at 30, 60 and 90 min than at 20 min (P < 0.05). The beat cross frequency (BCF) was significantly higher at 30 min than at 20 min (P < 0.05), while the lateral head amplitude (ALH) significantly lower at 90 min than at 30 min (P < 0.05). The sperm wobbliness (WOB) was significantly higher while the curvilinear velocity (VCL) significantly lower at 90 min than at 20 and 30 min (P < 0.05). Straightness (STR) at 30, 60 and 90 min, and average path velocity (VAP) and straight line velocity (VSL) at 90 min were significantly lower than at 20 min (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in sperm density, average motion degree (MAD) and linearity (LIN) among the four groups (P > 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The interval between semen collection and sperm routine analysis needs to be standardized. The results of this study suggest that sperm movement parameters of normal liquefied semen samples are relatively constant at 30 -60 min after semen collection.</p>

ABSTRACT

To understand the differences of the clinical research of acupuncture at home and abroad in methodological design and implementation, so as to provide reference for exploring acupuncture clinical study design program suitable to China. Reading clinical research literature of acupuncture and moxibustion for treatment of stroke at home and abroad and analyze and probe the methodological design and implementation. The results indicate that clinical research of acupuncture and moxibustion abroad has advantages in the randomized, controlled and double blind, etc. We should adopt the advantages of Chinese medicine, enrich and perfect research design program which can be approved by modern medicine and properly reflect the therapeutic effect of acupuncture and moxibustion on stroke.

ABSTRACT

To evaluate the cohort study in Chinese medicine research, especially in acupuncture study field. This paper introduced the concepts, methods and applications of cohort study; furthermore, it introduced the applications and progress of cohort study in clinical Chinese medicine research at present. In China, cohort study has been mainly used in Chinese medicine research focusing on tumors, any researches using cohort study in acupuncture were not retrieved. Contrarily, the cohort study has been used earlier and advocated to apply in abroad acupuncture research. As one of methods in classic epidemiological observational studies, cohort study is fit to evaluate clinical researches of Chinese medicine and acu-moxibustion, so it is worthy of being promoted in applications.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>The primary objectives of the treatment for the lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) are to produce rapid, sustained, and safe improvements in the symptoms that affect the quality of life in the majority of men over 50. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of the combined therapy with terazosin (apha1-adrenergic receptor antagonist) and tolterodine (anticholinergic agent) for LUTS associated with BPH.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>This combination study included 69 patients diagnosed with LUTS associated with BPH based on the International Prostate Symptom Scores (IPSS), urinary flow rate, prostate volume, urinary residual, and their serum prostate-specific antigen levels. Initially, 191 patients were treated with terazosin 2 mg once daily for one week. Those patients with continued LUTS after the initial treatment were allocated randomly into two groups: terazosin group (n = 36) in which patients were treated with terazosin 2 mg once daily for six weeks, and combination group (n = 33) in which patients were treated with both terazosin 2 mg once daily and tolterodine 2 mg twice daily for 6 weeks.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The IPSS were significantly improved in both groups after treatment, and the reduction of IPSS in the combination group was significantly greater than that in the terazosin group (P < 0.01). A decrease in urgency, frequency and nocturia were the main contributory factors causing the reduction of IPSS in the combination group. The differences about the peak urinary flow rate and the residual urine from the baseline values were noted in both groups after treatment, but were not significant between the two groups. The incidence of adverse effects in the combination group was higher than that in the terazosin group. As expected the most common adverse effect was mouth dryness which was associated with anticholinergic drugs such as tolterodine.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Patients with LUTS associated BPH appear the improved IPSS after combined therapy with terazosin and tolterodine. This study, although short term and limited numbers of patients, provides evidence that the combined therapy with terazosin plus tolterodine is a good approach for meeting the objectives of rapid, sustained, and safe improvements in the LUTS associated with BPH. And the profile of patients in this study might be used as the indication of such combined therapy for LUTS associated with BPH without urodynamic evaluation.</p>

ABSTRACT

In order to provide a complete picture of pathogenesis in cerebral ischemia, cerebral cortex in MCAO rats were analysed for alteration in their proteomes. Comparative proteome analysis was used to compare signal corresponding to individual cerebral cortex proteins on a two-dimensional gel between MCAO rats and the normal control (NC) group. After sample preparation, two-dimensional electroghoresis separated proteins were stained with Commassie Brilliant Blue. The image data were analyzed on a Dell computer using Image Master v 3.01 software. In cerebral cortex, 30 proteins were differentially expressed in MCAO rats compared with NC. There were 11 spots significantly increased, 15 spots significantly decreased and Adenylate kinase isoenzyme 1 was detected only in NC group, biliverdin reductase B, small inducible cytokine A4 [Precursor] only in MCAO group. Peroxiredoxin 2 divided into two points in MCAO6h group. In the end, this approach may lay a foundation for the further investigation of pathogenic mechanisms in cerebral ischmic injury.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the correlation between the mean of time blood flow velocity (TVmean) of feeding artery around hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and the microvessel density (MVD) in relation to tumor cell differentiation, and to evaluate the usefulness of TVmean as a noninvasive preoperative marker of biologic characteristic of HCC.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>To measure TVmean of feeding arteries around the HCC in 45 patients before operation and TVmean of minute arteries in hepatic tissue in 45 normal subjects by ultrasonographic examination. Tumor cell differentiation grade was determined by routine histopathological staining. Tumor MVD was measured by immunohistochemical staining with monoclonal antibodies against F VIII RAg of excised HCC. Correlationship between TVmean of feeding arteries and MVD of HCC was studied.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>A linear correlation between TVmean of feeding arteries around the tumors of HCC and MVD of HCC tissue (r = 0.794, y = 18.2764 + 1.5544x) was obtained. With TVmean > or = 21.3 cm/s, the positive and negative predictive values of poorly differentiated HCC were 97.4% and 87.5%, respectively. With TVmean < 21.3 cm/s, those of well differentiated HCC were 88.5% and 97.3%, respectively. The degree of reliability of calculating HCC cell differentiation according to TVmean was 89.5%.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Tumor growth and cellular differentiation, the two major factors affecting prognosis of HCC, may be evaluated by TVmean of feeding arteries around the tumor. It offers a useful preoperative information for predicting prognosis of HCC patients.</p>
