MultifacetedProtDB is a database of multifunctional human proteins deriving information from other databases, including UniProt, GeneCards, Human Protein Atlas (HPA), Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO) and MONDO. It collects under the label 'multifaceted' multitasking proteins addressed in literature as pleiotropic, multidomain, promiscuous (in relation to enzymes catalysing multiple substrates) and moonlighting (with two or more molecular functions), and difficult to be retrieved with a direct search in existing non-specific databases. The study of multifunctional proteins is an expanding research area aiming to elucidate the complexities of biological processes, particularly in humans, where multifunctional proteins play roles in various processes, including signal transduction, metabolism, gene regulation and cellular communication, and are often involved in disease insurgence and progression. The webserver allows searching by gene, protein and any associated structural and functional information, like available structures from PDB, structural models and interactors, using multiple filters. Protein entries are supplemented with comprehensive annotations including EC number, GO terms (biological pathways, molecular functions, and cellular components), pathways from Reactome, subcellular localization from UniProt, tissue and cell type expression from HPA, and associated diseases following MONDO, Orphanet and OMIM classification. The amino acid proline accumulates in plants during abiotic stresses such as drought and salinity and is considered a reliable marker of environmental stress. While its accumulation is well established, its precise role in stress tolerance and its underlying molecular mechanism remain less clear. To address these issues, we performed a meta-analysis-a robust statistical technique that synthesizes results from multiple independent studies while accounting for experimental differences. We focused on 16 physiological and morphological parameters affected by drought and salt stress in transgenic plants expressing proline metabolic genes. For each parameter, we calculated the effect size as the response ratio (RR), which represents the logarithm of the mean value in the transgenic group over the mean value of the control group (lnRR). Under stress, most parameters exhibited significantly higher response ratios in the transgenic group, confirming the beneficial effects of proline during drought and salt stress. Surprisingly, under non-stressed conditions, most stress markers showed no significant differences between transgenic and non-transgenic plants, despite elevated proline levels in the former. These results suggest that the benefits of proline may be related to proline catabolism or may only become apparent during stress, possibly due to interactions with reactive oxygen species (ROS), which accumulate predominantly under stress conditions.

Accessibility is a central element of any responsible and sustainable tourism policy: it is both a human rights imperative, and an exceptional business opportunity, as mentioned by UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai. Accessible tourism for all is not only about providing access to people with disabilities, but also addresses the creation of universally designed environments that can support people that may have temporary disabilities, families with young children, the ever-increasing ageing population, as well as creating a safer environment for employees at work. It must also be considered that accessible tourism benefits everyone: as more individuals enjoy the opportunity to travel, the tourism industry gets more visitors, longer seasons and new incomes. This contribution presents the approach taken within the Italy-Croatia Interreg Project "E-Chain - Enhanced Connectivity and Harmonization of data for the Adriatic Intermodal Network", focused on the provision of useful and personalized information for the traveling user.
