RESUMEN

The biogenesis and differentiation (B&D) of amyloplasts contributes to fruit flavor and color. Here, remodeling of starch granules, thylakoids and plastoglobules was observed during development and ripening in two kiwifruit (Actinidia spp.) cultivars - yellow-fleshed 'Hort16A' and green-fleshed 'Hayward'. A protocol was developed to purify starch-containing plastids with a high degree of intactness, and amyloplast B&D was studied using label-free-based quantitative proteomic analyses in both cultivars. Over 3000 amyloplast-localized proteins were identified, of which >98% were quantified and defined as the kfALP (kiwifruit amyloplast proteome). The kfALP data were validated by Tandem-Mass-Tag (TMT) labeled proteomics in 'Hort16A'. Analysis of the proteomic data across development and ripening revealed: 1) a conserved increase in the abundance of proteins participating in starch synthesis/degradation during both amyloplast B&D; 2) up-regulation of proteins for chlorophyll degradation and of plastoglobule-localized proteins associated with chloroplast breakdown and plastoglobule formation during amyloplast differentiation; 3) constitutive expression of proteins involved in ATP supply and protein import during amyloplast B&D. Interestingly, two different pathways of amyloplast B&D were observed in the two cultivars. In 'Hayward', significant increases in abundance of photosynthetic- and tetrapyrrole metabolism-related proteins were observed, but the opposite trend was observed in 'Hort16A'. In conclusion, analysis of the kfALP provides new insights into the potential mechanisms underlying amyloplast B&D with relevance to key fruit quality traits in contrasting kiwifruit cultivars.

Nerve growth factor (NGF) and its receptor, tropomyosin receptor kinase A (TrkA), are known to play important roles in the immune and nervous system. However, the effects of NGF on the osteogenic differentiation of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate the role of NGF on the osteogenic differentiation of DPSCs in vitro and the underlying mechanisms. DPSCs were cultured in osteogenic differentiation medium containing NGF (50 ng/mL) for 7 days. Then osteogenic-related genes and protein markers were analysed using qRT-PCR and Western blot, respectively. Furthermore, addition of NGF inhibitor and small interfering RNA (siRNA) transfection experiments were used to elucidate the molecular signalling pathway responsible for the process. NGF increased osteogenic differentiation of DPSCs significantly compared with DPSCs cultured in an osteogenic-inducing medium. The NGF inhibitor Ro 08-2750 (10 µM) and siRNA-mediated gene silencing of NGF receptor, TrkA and ERK signalling pathways inhibitor U0126 (10 µM) suppressed osteogenic-related genes and protein markers on DPSCs. Furthermore, our data revealed that NGF-upregulated osteogenic differentiation of DPSCs may be associated with the activation of MEK/ERK signalling pathways via TrkA. Collectively, NGF was capable of promoting osteogenic differentiation of DPSCs through MEK/ERK signalling pathways, which may enhance the DPSCs-mediated bone tissue regeneration.

Renewal of integumentary organs occurs cyclically throughout an organism's lifetime, but the mechanism that initiates each cycle remains largely unknown. In a miniature pig model of tooth development that resembles tooth development in humans, the permanent tooth did not begin transitioning from the resting to the initiation stage until the deciduous tooth began to erupt. This eruption released the accumulated mechanical stress inside the mandible. Mechanical stress prevented permanent tooth development by regulating expression and activity of the integrin ß1-ERK1-RUNX2 axis in the surrounding mesenchyme. We observed similar molecular expression patterns in human tooth germs. Importantly, the release of biomechanical stress induced downregulation of RUNX2-wingless/integrated (Wnt) signaling in the mesenchyme between the deciduous and permanent tooth and upregulation of Wnt signaling in the epithelium of the permanent tooth, triggering initiation of its development. Consequently, our findings identified biomechanical stress-associated Wnt modulation as a critical initiator of organ renewal, possibly shedding light on the mechanisms of integumentary organ regeneration.

Aqueous Zn-metal battery is considered as a promising energy-storage system. However, uncontrolled zinc dendrite growth is the main cause of short-circuit failure in aqueous Zn-based batteries. One of the most efficient and convenient strategies to alleviate this issue is to introduce appropriate zincophilic nucleation sites to guide zinc metal deposition and regulate crystal growth. Herein, this work proposes Bi2O3/Bi nanosheets anchored on the cell wall surface of the 3D porous conductive host as the Zn deposition sites to modulate Zn deposition behavior and hence inhibit the zinc dendrite growth. Density functional theory and experimental results demonstrate that Bi2O3 has a super zinc binding energy and strong adsorption energy with zinc (002) plane, as a super-zincophilic nucleation site, which results in the deposition of zinc preferentially along the horizontal direction of (002) crystal plane, fundamentally avoids the formation of Zn dendrites. Benefiting from the synergistic effect Bi2O3/Bi zincophilic sites and 3D porous structure in the B-BOGC host, the electrochemical performance of the constructed Zn-based battery is significantly improved. As a result, the Zn anode cycles for 1500 cycles at 50 mA cm-2 and 1.0 mAh cm-2. Meanwhile, the Zn@B-BOGC//MnO2 full cell can operate stably for 2000 cycles at 2.0 A g-1.

Chetocochliodin M (5) containing a rare cage-ring and chetocochliodin N (6) featuring an unusual piperazine-2,3-dione ring system together with known analogues chetomin (1), chetoseminudin C (2), chetocochliodin I (3), and oidioperazine E (4) were targeted for purification from the fungus Chaetomium cochliodes using a UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS approach. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated using HR-ESI-MS, NMR, and ECD spectra. Compounds 1, 3, and 6 exhibited strong cytotoxic activities against A549 and HeLa cancer cell lines.

This review provides a critical analysis of shielding effects induced by an aromatic (indole) ring of small molecules mainly including three members of naturally occurring secondary metabolites asterric acid analogs, diketopiperazines (DKPs) possessing an aromatic or an indole ring, and rubrolides. Empirical rules about the shielding effects induced by an aromatic (indole) ring are classified, based on which some 1H NMR chemical shift values in the A-ring and structures of asterric acid analogs are revised, and the relative configurations of some DKPs possessing an indole ring are also assigned or revised. The empirical rules could provide an efficient and convenient method for NMR data analysis and configuration determination for the three members of small molecules mentioned above.

BACKGROUND: Living near and enjoying visually green landscapes is associated with better mental health, but evidence focusing on vulnerable populations (such as cancer survivors) is sparse. The purpose of this study was to explore the association between residential greenspace and anxiety and depressive symptoms among cancer survivors in Shanghai, China. METHODS: In total, 4195 cancer survivors participated in this study from the 2022 Shanghai Cancer Patient Needs Survey. The estimation of residential greenspaces was based on Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI). The presence and severity of depressive and anxiety symptoms were assessed by using the Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-2 (GAD-2). The relation between mental health and green space was assessed using the Generalized Additive Model (GAM) after controlling for relevant individual covariates and contextual characteristics. RESULTS: The prevalence of anxiety and depression in cancer survivors was 36.2% and 28.3% respectively. After multivariate adjustment, each increase in inter-quartile range (IQR) for NDVI in the 250 m buffer (NDVI-250m) was associated with a decrease in PHQ-2 score (△score (95%CI): 0.018 (-0.034, -0.002)) and GAD-2 score (△score (95%CI): 0.018 (-0.034, -0.002)), respectively. We observed that an increase in IQR for NDVI-250m was associated with a 3.3% (Odds ratio (OR) (95%CI):0.967 (0.943, 0.991)) reduction in anxiety symptoms. More pronounced greenspace-mental health effects were found among young adults (18-65 years) and participants living in suburban areas, compared to young people over 65 and those living in urban areas (P-interaction < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Higher levels of residential green space are associated with lower risk of depression and anxiety disorders. Our findings will fill the gap in the relationship between green space and mental health among cancer survivors in urban China, and provide new evidence for garden afforestation, community planning and policy-making. To better understand this association, more longitudinal studies are necessary to investigate the mechanisms involved.

Dendrobium nobile Lindl., as an endangered medicinal plant within the genus Dendrobium, is widely distributed in southwestern China and has important ecological and economic value. There are a variety of metabolites with pharmacological activity in D. nobile. The alkaloids and polysaccharides contained within D. nobile are very important active components, which mainly have antiviral, anti-tumor, and immunity improvement effects. However, the changes in the compounds and functional genes of D. nobile induced by methyl jasmonate (MeJA) are not clearly understood. In this study, the metabolome and transcriptome of D. nobile were analyzed after exposure to MeJA. A total of 377 differential metabolites were obtained through data analysis, of which 15 were related to polysaccharide pathways and 35 were related to terpenoids and alkaloids pathways. Additionally, the transcriptome sequencing results identified 3256 differentially expressed genes that were discovered in 11 groups. Compared with the control group, 1346 unigenes were differentially expressed in the samples treated with MeJA for 14 days (TF14). Moreover, the expression levels of differentially expressed genes were also significant at different growth and development stages. According to GO and KEGG annotations, 189 and 99 candidate genes were identified as being involved in terpenoid biosynthesis and polysaccharide biosynthesis, respectively. In addition, the co-expression analysis indicated that 238 and 313 transcription factors (TFs) may contribute to the regulation of terpenoid and polysaccharide biosynthesis, respectively. Through a heat map analysis, fourteen terpenoid synthetase genes, twenty-three cytochrome P450 oxidase genes, eight methyltransferase genes, and six aminotransferase genes were identified that may be related to dendrobine biosynthesis. Among them, one sesquiterpene synthase gene was found to be highly expressed after the treatment with MeJA and was positively correlated with the content of dendrobine. This study provides important and valuable metabolomics and transcriptomic information for the further understanding of D. nobile at the metabolic and molecular levels and provides candidate genes and possible intermediate compounds for the dendrobine biosynthesis pathway, which lays a certain foundation for further research on and application of Dendrobium.

PURPOSE: In the present study, we aimed to investigate the positive rate of Demodex infection in patients with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and to analyze its risk factors. METHODS: A total of 178 MGD patients admitted to the Jinan Second People's Hospital from April 2020 to February 2021 were enrolled in the present study. All patients were examined for Demodex infection, and their medical history was collected. The positive rate of Demodex infection was calculated after the examination. The medical history, including age, eating habits, pet ownership, and so on, was collected. First, a univariate analysis was conducted to identify the factors associated with positive Demodex infection, and then, a multivariate comprehensive analysis was carried out to identify the main risk factors for positive Demodex infection. RESULTS: In the present study, the positive rate of Demodex infection in 178 MGD patients was 73.60%. The risk factors of Demodex infection in MGD patients were gender, pet ownership, toiletry sharing, and diabetes (all P ≤ 0.15). Age was one of the risk factors for infection [B = 0.105, OR 1.111 (95%CI 1.069-1.155), P = 0.000], and toiletry sharing was more likely to cause positive Demodex mite infection [B = 0.891, OR 2.439 (95%CI 1.066-5.577), P = 0.035]. The Demodex infection was not statistically associated with gender (P = 0.234), pet ownership (P = 1.141), and diabetes (P = 0.295). CONCLUSIONS: The positive rate of Demodex infection was higher in MGD patients. The main risk factors affecting the positive rate of Demodex infection included age and toiletry sharing.

OBJECTIVE: Comparative analysis of two method for determining fat and analysis of fatty acid content in tea samples. METHODS: The content of freefatand total fat in tea was determined by Soxhlet extraction method and acid hydrolysis method, and the content of fatty acids were determined by gas chromatography. The composition and content of fatty acids in 21 tea samples from 5 regions were analyzed. RESULTS: The freefat content of tea determined by Soxhlet extraction method was significantly lower than that determined by acid hydrolysis method. The totalfat content in tea determined by acid hydrolysis method was consistent with the total amount of fatty acids determined by gas chromatography, and their content conformed to the logical relationshipsimultaneously. The totalfat content in tea ranged from 0.6 to 4.1 g/100 g, which in green tea, white tea, yellow tea, and black tea were 2.2, 1.8, 1.6 and 0.6 g/100 g, respectively. The content of free fat in tea was less than 58%, with 42%-80% of the fat existing in a bound form. The fatty acids in tea were mainly unsaturated fatty acids, accounting for 67.52%-99.03% of the total fatty acids. There were differences in the composition of fatty acids in different types of tea, with the proportion of unsaturated fatty acids in yellow tea accounting for 98.84% of the total fatty acids, which was significantly higher than that of green tea, white tea, and black tea. The fatty acids with high content in green tea(except Tang chi xiaolan tea, Bawangjian green tea and Liuxi yuye tea)were α-linoleic acid, linoleic acid, and palmitic acid. CONCLUSION: Theacid hydrolysis method is more suitable for the determination of fat in tea samples. The composition and content of fat and fatty acids in tea vary depending onfactors such as the type of tea and the degree of fermentation.

This study explored the feasibility of mineral element content and ratios of nitrogen isotopes to discriminate the cultivation mode of Dendrobium nobile in order to provide theoretical support for the discrimination of the cultivation mode of D. nobile. The content of 11 mineral elements(N, K, Ca, P, Mg, Na, Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn, and B) and nitrogen isotope ratios in D. nobile and its substrate samples in three cultivation methods(greenhouse cultivation, tree-attached cultivation, and stone-attached cultivation) were determined. According to the analysis of variance, principal component analysis, and stepwise discriminant analysis, the samples of different cultivation types were classified. The results showed that the nitrogen isotope ratios and the content of elements except for Zn were significantly different among different cultivation types of D. nobile(P<0.05). The results of correlation analysis showed that the nitrogen isotope ratios, mineral element content, and effective component content in D. nobile were correlated with the nitrogen isotope ratio and mineral element content in the corresponding substrate samples to varying degrees. Principal component analysis can preliminarily classify the samples of D. nobile, but some samples overlapped. Through stepwise discriminant analysis, six indicators, including δ~(15)N, K, Cu, P, Na, and Ca, were screened out, which could be used to establish the discriminant model of D. nobile cultivation methods, and the overall correct discrimination rates after back-substitution test, cross-check, and external validation were all 100%. Therefore, nitrogen isotope ratios and mineral element fingerprints combined with multivariate statistical analysis could effectively discriminate the cultivation types of D. nobile. The results of this study provide a new method for the identification of the cultivation type and production area of D. nobile and an experimental basis for the quality evaluation and quality control of D. nobile.

Aflatoxins, including aflatoxin B1, B2, G1, G2, M1, and M2, are one of the major types of mycotoxins that endangers food safety, human health, and contribute to the immeasurable loss of food and agricultural production in the world yearly. In addition, aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) mainly produced by Aspergilus sp. is the most potent of these compounds and has been well documented to cause the development of hepatocellular carcinoma in humans and animals. This paper reviewed the detoxification and degradation of AFB1, including analysis and summary of the major technologies in physics, chemistry, and biology in recent years. The chemical structure and toxicity of the transformed products, and the degradation mechanisms of AFB1 are overviewed and discussed in this presented review. In addition to the traditional techniques, we also provide a prospective study on the use of emerging detoxification methods such as natural products and photocatalysis. The purpose of this work is to provide reference for AFB1 control and detoxification, and to promote the development of follow-up research.

Chinese figwort (Scrophularia ningpoensis Hemsl.) is an important annual herb and its dried root tubers are used as a traditional Chinese herbal medicine. In May 2021, a disease with stem rot symptoms on S. ningpoensis was observed at three randomly selected fields (~0.67 ha per field) in Nanchuan district (28.93°N, 107.27°E) of Chongqing, China. Disease incidence was estimated between 10% and 17% based on calculating the proportion of symptomatic plants. Initially, watery dark brown spots appeared on the epidermis of the stem. Then the spots expanded into spindle or strip shape, and the center of lesions were sunken, constricted and rotted finally (Figure 1A and Figure 1B). Leaves turned yellow and the plants wilted (Figure 1C). The infected parts of the stem broke easily and became brittle. The number of daughter buds used for reproduction was reduced by more than 24% and the production of root tubers decreased by more than 3%. Twelve stems with typical rot symptoms were sampled from the three fields for further investigation. Infested tissue fragments (4×4 mm) were surface sterilized with 75% ethanol for 30s and 2% sodium hypochlorite for 2 minutes in turn, finally, were rinsed 4 times with sterilized water. The disinfected tissue were air-dried and transferred onto potato dextrose agar (PDA) in the dark for 6 days at 25℃. The resulting fungal colonies were isolated by the single-spore isolation technique (Fang. 1998). Six different fungal colonies were isolated (X1-X6) and Koch's postulates were conducted to verify the pathogenicity of individual isolates. The stem surfaces of 8 months old plants were sterilized with 75% ethanol for 30 s, rinsed three times with sterilized water, and stabbed with a sterilized needle. Conidial from the fungal colonies grown on PDA plate were harvested by filtration through five layers of sterilized absorbent gauze. Conidial concentration was then adjusted to 106 conidia per mL. 10 µL of conidial suspension was sprayed on stems injured with a sterile syringe. For each isolate, 6 plants were inoculated. Stems inoculated with sterilized water were used as a blank control. All plants were all put in a growth chamber at 28℃ with 75 to 80% relative humidity under a 12 h photoperiod for 15 days. The pathogenicity test was repeated once. After 13 days, the stems inoculated with X3 showed the same rot symptoms as we observed in the fields (Figure 1D) whereas the control stems remained symptomless (Figure 1E). The fungus re-isolated from the plants showing 100% symptoms had a similar morphology than X3 as described below. At the same time, the stems inoculated with X1, X2, X4, X5 and X6 showed no sign of rot. After culturing on PDA for 9 days under 25℃ in dark, isolate X3 grew all over the dish with white or pale pink pigmentation in the center (Figure 1F). Macroconidia were produced on synthetic low nutrient agar (SNA) plates, which showed sickle or spindle, 3 septate, straight to slightly curved with a foot-shaped basal cell, ranging from 17.595~44.88 × 2.04~3.315 µm (n=30). Microconidia were oval, elliptical or reniform, 0 to 1 septate, 3.06~12.75 ×1.785~2.805 µm (n=30) in size (Figure 1G). Phialides of conidiophores were cylindrical, short and monophialides or polyphialides (Figure 1H). Chlamydospores were found terminal or cluster with round or oblong (Figure 1I). These morphological characteristics described as Fusarium commone (Skovgaard et al. 2003). For molecular identification, the ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS), translation elongation factor 1-alpha (EF-1α), RNA polymerase II subunit 1 (RPB1), the largest subunit of RNA polymerase Ⅱ gene sequences (RPB2) and the mitochondrial small subunit rDNA (mtSSU) genes were amplified with primers V9G /ITS4 (Hoog et al. 1998; White et al. 1990), EF1-668F /EF1-1251R (Alves et al. 2008), Fa/G2R (O'Donnell et al. 2010), 5f2/7cr (Liu et al. 1999; O'Donnell et al. 2010) and NMS1/NMS2 (Li et al. 1994). The sequences of isolate X3 were deposited in GenBank (MZ571935 (ITS), MZ576201 (EF-1α), MZ882396 (RPB1), MZ882397 (RPB2) and MZ867716 (mtSSU)). All sequences were revealed more than 99.8% sequence identity with reported sequences of Fusarium commune (GenBank accession No: KY630717, JF740838, KU171680, KU171700 and MK439851). Based on the optimal nucleotide replacement model SYM of multi-gene series sequence matrix, the system development tree was constructed. Results showed the strain X3 and those of F. commune (Isolates numbers were NRRL 28387, MRC 2566, MRC 2564 and CZ3-5-6) were clustered into the same evolutionary branch with a post-mortem probability of 0.996 (Figure 2). According to the morphology, molecular identification and phylogenetic analysis based on the concatenated of EF-1α and RPB2 genes sequences, the isolated X3 was identified as F. commune. The ITS sequences of X1, X2, X4, X5 and X6 showed homology exceeding 97.1% to Fusarium tricinctum (MH931273), Plectosphaerella cucumerina (MH858371), Sordariomycetes sp. (JX179237), Whalleya microplace (EF026129) and Pestalotiopsis maculiformans (EU552147), respectively, suggested the five strains to be these species possibly. GeneBank accession number of X1, X2, X4, X5 and X6 was OM074010, OM074011, OM074013, OM074015 and OM074018, respectively. To our best knowledge, this is the first report of F. commune infecting S. ningpoensis in China. Stem rot caused by F. commune is a severe threat to Chinese figwort cultivation, and identification of this pathogen is important for effective disease management and control.

INTRODUCTION: In addition to the mycotoxin swainsonine, the locoweed endophytic fungus Alternaria oxytropis (Pleosporaceae) also produces a series of rarely reported, highly oxygenated bicyclic guaiane sesquiterpenoids. Few investigations on the electrospray tandem mass fragmentation pattern of this sesquiterpenoid have been reported. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to analyze and detect new guaiane sesquiterpenoid analogues from crude extracts of the locoweed endophytic fungus A. oxytropis by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS experiments. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Oxytropiols A-J (1-10) and the extract of the locoweed endophytic fungus A. oxytropis were analyzed by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS in positive mode. RESULTS: Typical neutral losses, McLafferty rearrangement, 1,2-rearrangement, and 1,3-rearrangement were considered to be the main fragmentation patterns for the [M + H]+ /[M + Na]+ ions of 1-10 by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS experiments, and possible fragmentation pathways of 1-10 were suggested. A unique and undescribed analogue named oxytropiol K (11) was found in the extract based on UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS analysis. Compound 11 was isolated and elucidated by NMR spectrometry, and its UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS analysis was consistent with the fragmentation pathways of 1-10. CONCLUSION: The results further support that UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS is a powerful and sensitive tool for the characterization of known compounds (dereplication) and the detection of new analogues from crude extracts and imply that the locoweed endophytic fungus A. oxytropis, with few chemical investigations, is an important resource for undescribed metabolites.

BACKGROUND: Serum microRNAs (miRNAs) have been used as novel biomarkers for various diseases, including acute coronary syndrome (ACS). This study aimed to investigate the expression and clinical significance of microRNA-361-5p (miR-361-5p) in patients with ACS. METHODS: This study included 118 ACS patients, 78 patients with stable coronary heart disease (SCHD) and 66 healthy controls. MiR-361-5p expression was measured by qRT-PCR. The diagnostic value of miR-361-5p was evaluated by the ROC analysis. A 30-day follow-up was performed for the patients from hospitalization, and Kaplan-Meier curves and logistics analysis were used to evaluate the ability of miR-361-5p to predict the occurrence of major adverse cardiac events (MACE). ELISA kits were used to detect the levels of endothelial dysfunction (ED) markers, including vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1), intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) and E-selectin. RESULTS: The expression of miR-361-5p was significantly increased in patients with SCHD and ACS, and positively correlated with Gensini scores. Serum miR-361-5p expression had a high diagnostic accuracy for distinguishing ACS from health controls and SCHD patients. ACS patients with high expression of miR-361-5p had a higher probability of developing MACE. MiR-361-5p expression was an independent risk factor for the occurrence of MACE in ACS patients, and was positively correlated with the levels of VCAM-1, ICAM-1 and E-selectin. CONCLUSION: All data indicated that miR-361-5p expression was significantly increased in ACS patients. Aberrant miR-361-5p expression in ACS might be a candidate biomarker for ACS diagnosis and the the prediction of MACE onset.

Swainsonine (SW, 1), a unique indolizine with poly-hydroxyl groups, was re-isolated from the plant endophytic fungus Alternaria oxytropis. The structure (including planar structure and relative configuration) was systematically elucidated by NMR spectra (including 1 H, 13 C, 1 H-1 H COSY, HMQC, HMBC, and NOESY spectra in DMSO-d6 and in CD3 OD); 1 H NMR spectra of the modified Mosher's products were first used to determine the absolute configuration of SW. More importantly, the complex coupled features of H-7α, H-7ß, and H-6α in the 1 H NMR spectrum of (1) were analyzed in details, which will provide aids for the planar and relative configuration determination of analogs.

Due to the unique environmental conditions and vast territory, marine habitat breeds more abundant biological resources than terrestrial environment. Massive marine biological species provide valuable resources for obtaining a large number of natural products with diverse structure and excellent activity. In recent years, new breakthroughs have been made in the application of marine natural products in drug development. In addition, the use of marine natural products to develop insecticides and other pesticide products has also been widely concerned. Targeting marine plants, animals, and microorganisms, we have collected information on marine natural products with insecticidal activity for nearly decade, including alkaloids, terpenes, flavonoids and phenols fatty acids, peptides, and proteins, et al. In addition, some active crude extracts are also included. This review describes the insecticidal activities of marine natural products and their broad applications for future research in agriculture and health.

To investigate the effects of six common drying methods on the quality of different specifications of Sophorae Flos, in order to select their suitable drying methods. According to appearance and morphology, Sophorae Flos was divided into the following three specifications: flower bud type(HL), half-open type(BK) and blooming type(SK). All specifications of samples were treated with shade-drying method(25 ℃, natural temperature), sun-drying method, hot-air-drying method(60, 105 ℃), and drying method(60 ℃) after steaming. The contents of total flavonoids, rutin, narcissus, quercetin, isorhamnetin, and Fe~(3+) reducing ability, DPPH free radical scavenging ability, ABTS free radical scavenging ability and fluorescence recovery after photobleaching(FRAP) were detected by UV, HPLC and colorimetry, respectively. Principal component analysis(PCA), cluster analysis(CA) and correlation analysis were used to comprehensively evaluate the quality of samples. According to the results, there were significant differences in the effect of drying methods on different specifications of samples. The drying method(60 ℃) after steaming was suitable for HL and BK, while the hot-air-drying method(60 ℃) was suitable for SK. When the fresh medicinal materials could not be treated in time, they should be spread out in a cool and ventilated place. Under high and low temperature conditions, the quality of three specifications of Sophorae Flos would be reduced. The hot-air-drying method(105 ℃) and shade-drying method(25 ℃) were not suitable for the treatment of fresh flowers and flower buds of Sophora japonicus. There were obviously differences of chemical compositions and antioxidant activities among the three specifications of samples. Therefore, the specifications of medicinal materials should be controlled to ensure the uniform quality. The study provided the abundant data reference for the selection of appropriate drying methods for the three specifications of Sophorae Flos, and useful exploration for the classification and processing of medicinal materials of flowers.

A series of seco-sativene sesquiterpenoids (1-11) including two new natural products (2 and 3), four new analogues (4-7), and six known analogues, helminthosporic acid (1), drechslerine A (8), drechslerine B (9), helminthosporol (10), helminthosporal acid (11), and isosativenediol (12), were purified from the endophytic fungus Cochliobolus sativus isolated from a desert plant, Artemisia desertorum. The stereochemistry of helminthosporic acid (1) was established for the first time by X-ray diffraction, and the structures including relative and absolute configurations of these new compounds were determined by NMR and CD spectra together with biosynthetic considerations. Compounds 5-7 are the first seco-sativene sesquiterpenoids possessing a glucose group on C-15, C-15, and C-14, respectively. Compounds 1, 7, 9, and 11 displayed strong phytotoxic effects on corn leaves by producing visible lesions, and helminthosporic acid (1) was shown to promote division of leaves and roots of Arabidopsis thaliana with a dose-dependent relationship.

RESUMEN

Nine new epipoly(thiodioxopiperazine) (ETP) analogues, chetocochliodins A-I (1-9), along with two known ones, chetoseminudins E and C (10 and 11), were purified from the fungus Chaetomium cochliodes. The planar structures and absolute configurations of these new compounds were determined by extensive NMR spectroscopic analysis, CD spectra, and chemical reactions. Shielding effects from the indole on the 3-SCH3/3-OCH3/3-OCH2- groups facilitated the determination of relative configuration of the analogues. Compound 9 was cytotoxic, suggesting the importance of the sulfide bridge for the diketopiperazine bioactivities.
