RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The prevalence and risk factors of postpartum posttraumatic stress disorder reported by population-based studies have significantly varied and the data are all collected from regional populations in Mainland China. AIMS: To utilize published data to estimate the overall prevalence of postpartum posttraumatic stress disorder and its determinants in Mainland China. METHODS: Comprehensively electronic searches were performed across six English databases and three Chinese databases. Random effects of the meta-analysis were performed to evaluate the pooled prevalence of postpartum posttraumatic stress disorder. Meta-regression was performed with the variable of study design, sample size, setting, measures, region, time points, and publication year. RESULTS: Totaling of nineteen studies was included, with a sample size of 13,231 postpartum women. The pooled prevalence of postpartum posttraumatic stress disorder was 11.2 % in Mainland China, with a higher prevalence at the timepoint within 1 month postpartum (18.1 %). Significant publication bias and heterogeneity were found (I2 = 97.1 %). Sample size and measurements were conditional on the prevalence of postpartum posttraumatic stress disorder. Postpartum depressive symptoms, sleep problems, cesarean section, and low levels of social support were the major risk factors for postpartum posttraumatic stress disorder. While being the one child in the family was the protective factor. CONCLUSION: An increasing prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder within one month postpartum significantly arises awareness to provide screening and more mental health services during this period. Screening programs for postpartum posttraumatic stress disorder are still needed in Mainland China.

RESUMEN

We performed liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) on control and TGF-ß1-exposed rat lung fibroblasts to identify proteins differentially expressed between cell populations. A total of 196 proteins were found to be differentially expressed in response to TGF-ß1 treatment. Guided by these results, we next determined whether similar changes in protein expression were detectable in the rat lung after chronic exposure to silica dust. Of the five proteins selected for further analysis, we found that levels of all proteins were markedly increased in the silica-exposed rat lung, including the proteins for the very low density lipoprotein receptor (VLDLR) and the transmembrane (type I) heparin sulfate proteoglycan called syndecan 2 (SDC2). Because VLDLR and SDC2 have not, to our knowledge, been previously linked to the pathobiology of silicosis, we next examined whether knockdown of either gene altered responses to TGF-ß1 in MRC-5 lung fibroblasts. Interestingly, we found knockdown of either VLDLR or SDC2 dramatically reduced collagen production to TGF-ß1, suggesting that both proteins might play a novel role in myofibroblast biology and pathogenesis of silica-induced pulmonary fibrosis. In summary, our findings suggest that performing LC-MS/MS on TGF-ß1 stimulated lung fibroblasts can uncover novel molecular targets of activated myofibroblasts in silica-exposed lung.

RESUMEN

Crystalline silica (SiO2) particles have very strong toxicity to the lungs, and silicosis is an excessive pulmonary interstitial remodeling disease that follows persistent SiO2 injury. We showed here that DNA double strand breaks (DSBs) and apoptosis were aggravated during rat silicosis induced by SiO2 exposure. Ac-SDKP attenuates lung parenchymal distortion and collagen deposition, and decreases the expression of γH2AX, p21, and cleaved caspase-3, as well as improves the reduction of pulmonary function caused by silicosis. In vitro, we found an evolution of smooth muscle actin α (α-SMA), collagen type I (Col I) in both A549 and MRC-5 cells in response to transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-ß1) + SiO2. Only A549 cells showed any reduction in the rate of apoptosis induced by the double stimulation, because of the anti-apoptotic effects of TGF-ß1. N-acetyl-seryl-aspartyl-lysyl-proline (Ac-SDKP) is an anti-fibrotic tetrapeptide. It also has the ability to promote the apoptosis of leukemia cells. However its role in promoting cell apoptosis in silicosis is still unknown. We here found that Ac-SDKP could induce cell apoptosis and inhibit fibrotic response in A549 and MRC-5 cells treated with TGF-ß1 + SiO2, and these effects depended on regulation of α-tubulin acetyltransferase 1 (α-TAT1). These findings suggest that Ac-SDKP may have therapeutic value in the treatment of silicotic fibrosis.

RESUMEN

In order to develop live vaccine against Siniperca chuatsi rhabdovirus (SCRV) disease, an avirulent virus strain, designed as Micropterus salmoides rhabdovirus Sanshui (MSRV-SS), was selected from six fish rhabdovirus isolates (SCRV-QY、SCRV-SS、SCRV-GM、CMRV-FS、OMBRV-JM、MSRV-SS) by fish challenge assay. When Chinese perch (Siniperca chuatsi) were intraperitoneally injected live virus strain MSRV-SS, they were completely protected from virulent SCRV-GM challenge with a relative percent survival (RPS) of 100% on 18th day post vaccination. Then, the wild type MSRV-SS was purified by plaque clone assays, and the biological characteristics of the clonal strain designed as MSRV-SS-7 were investigated. The MSRV-SS-7 was avirulent to Chinese perch and its growth characteristic was similar to the MSRV-SS. The immune protection effects of clonal MSRV-SS-7 against virulent SCRV-GM were evaluated by intraperitoneal injection (IP) vaccination and immersion (IM) vaccination, their RPSs were all 100%. Altogether, these results indicate that MSRV-SS-7 is a potential live vaccine candidate against SCRV disease.

RESUMEN

Aim: To assess the therapeutic potential of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs) combined with porcine small intestinal submucosa (SIS) on full-thickness skin injuries in rats. Methods: We established full-thickness skin injury models in Sprague-Dawley rats, dividing them into blank control, SIS, hUCMSCs and hUCMSCs combined with SIS. We monitored wound healing, scores and area, and analyzed inflammatory cells, microvessel density and collagen fibers after 12 days. Results: The blank group showed no healing, forming a scar of 0.6 × 0.5 cm2, while SIS and hUCMSCs groups exhibited incomplete healing with 0.4 × 0.5 cm2 scabs. Wound healing was significantly better in the hUCMSCs combined with the SIS group. Conclusion: Local application of hUCMSCs combined with SIS enhances full-thickness skin injury wound healing in rats.

Our skin protects us from infections and injuries, but severe damage can lead to health problems. In this study, we explored a promising new treatment to enhance skin healing. We used mesenchymal stem cells derived from umbilical cords in combination with a biological material called porcine small intestinal submucosa (SIS) to conduct experiemnts on rats with skin wounds. This treatment led to much better healing in rats with deep skin wounds compared with standard approaches. This approach is promising for treating severe skin injuries, offering hope for quicker recovery and better outcome, including faster recovery, reduced pain and inflammation and less scarring.

RESUMEN

The role of phonological and orthographic processing and their time course during lexical processing and sentence reading remain controversial. By adopting a misspelled-characters disruption paradigm and eye-tracking technique, we manipulated the writing for the first characters of two-character target words to investigate the relative role of orthographic and phonological processing on word recognition in Chinese reading. There are four conditions: (a) correct character, (b) misspelled character with a stroke missing, (c) misspelled homographic character, and (d) misspelled homophonic character. The results showed that homophonic errors caused more disruptions than other conditions in the early (first-pass reading times) and later (total reading time) stages of lexical processing during Chinese reading. Homographic errors and omitted stroke errors lead to equal disruptions at the early stage of word recognition, but homographic errors cause more disruptions at the later stage. These results suggest that orthography plays a dominant role in word recognition during Chinese reading, whereas phonology plays a weaker and more limited role. The direct access and dual-rote hypothesis may well explain the mechanism of lexical processing in Chinese reading.

RESUMEN

The spread of epidemics has been extensively investigated using susceptible-exposed infectious-recovered-susceptible (SEIRS) models. In this work, we propose a SEIRS pandemic model with infection forces and intervention strategies. The proposed model is characterized by a stochastic differential equation (SDE) framework with arbitrary parameter settings. Based on a Markov semigroup hypothesis, we demonstrate the effect of the proliferation number R 0 S on the SDE solution. On the one hand, when R 0 S < 1, the SDE has an illness-free solution set under gentle additional conditions. This implies that the epidemic can be eliminated with a likelihood of 1. On the other hand, when R 0 S > 1, the SDE has an endemic stationary circulation under mild additional conditions. This prompts the stochastic regeneration of the epidemic. Also, we show that arbitrary fluctuations can reduce the infection outbreak. Hence, valuable procedures can be created to manage and control epidemics.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: In IgG4-related disease, the relationship between pathological findings and relapse has not been well established. This study aimed to identify the clinical and pathological predictors of disease relapse in IgG4-RD. METHODS: Patients with newly diagnosed IgG4-RD (n = 71) were enrolled between January 2011 and April 2020; all cases were pathologically confirmed. The clinical and pathological features were recorded in a database at baseline and each follow-up visit. Patients were followed up at least once a month via outpatient clinic examinations and telephone calls. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses and receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis were used to identify the predictors of disease relapse and to assess their predictive value. RESULTS: Over a median follow-up of 26 (range, 6-123) months, 3/71 (4.2%) patients died. Of the remaining 68 patients, 47 (69.1%) patients had achieved clinical remission and 21 (30.9%) had suffered relapse at the last follow-up. The independent predictors of relapse were IgG4 ≥ 6.5 g/L (HR = 2.84, 95% CI: 1.11-7.23), IgG ≥ 20.8 g/L (HR = 4.11, 95% CI: 1.53-11.06), IgG4-RD responder index (RI) ≥ 9 (HR = 3.82, 95% CI: 1.28-11.37), and severe IgG4+ plasma cell infiltration (HR = 6.32, 95% CI: 1.79-22.41). A prognostic score developed using three of the identified predictors (IgG ≥ 20.8 g/L, IgG4-RD RI ≥ 9, and severe IgG4+ plasma cell infiltration) showed good value for predicting impending relapse (AUC, 0.806). CONCLUSIONS: In patients with IgG4-RD, IgG4 ≥ 6.5 g/L, IgG ≥ 20.8 g/L, IgG4-RD responder index (RI) ≥ 9, and severe IgG4+ plasma cell infiltration are predictors of relapse.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical outcomes of patients with active immunoglobulin G (IgG) 4 related disease (IgG4-RD) receiving tocilizumab versus those receiving cyclophosphamide (CYC). METHODS: This IgG4-RD registry study was a prospective cohort study conducted among patients with active IgG4-RD hospitalized at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University. Patients who were treated with tocilizumab or CYC along with glucocorticoids (GCs) were enrolled. All participants were followed up at the hospital clinic at 3 and 6 months after discharge. Primary clinical outcomes were measured via the IgG4-RD responder index (RI), complete response (CR), and partial response (PR), as well as side effects. RESULTS: From January 2015 to June 2020, 29 patients enrolled. Fourteen and 15 patients were treated with tocilizumab and CYC, respectively. At the 6-month follow-up, disease activity parameters including erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), IgG4, and IgG4-RD RI, decreased significantly in both groups. At 6 months, tocilizumab demonstrated its superiority, with 50% of patients achieving CR in the Tocilizumab group versus 20% in the CYC group. However, no statistical significance was identified (p = 0.128). The GC dosage at 6 months was significantly lower in the tocilizumab group than in the CYC group [10 (9.4-15) mg/d versus 15 (15-15) mg/d, p = 0.025]. In the CYC group, two patients experienced lumbar vertebral compression fractures related to GCs. Other patients in both groups showed mild adverse effects. CONCLUSIONS: Tocilizumab could be a better steroid-sparing agent, with a comparable curative effect and tolerance, than CYC, in the treatment of IgG4-RD.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: Patients with IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) suffer high relapse rates during long-term treatment, but factors that predict relapse outcomes are not well established. In the present study, we aimed to identify predictive factors for treatment resistance and disease relapse in a Chinese IgG4-RD cohort. METHODS: This study enrolled 102 patients newly diagnosed with IgG4-RD. Disease prognosis was determined by evaluating disease activity and dosage of glucocorticoids. Predictive factors for refractory and relapsed disease were identified by univariate analysis and Cox regression. RESULTS: Among the 102 patients, 78 cases received medical treatment with regular follow-up (21 [6-111] months). During the follow-up period, 55 (70.5%) patients sustained clinical remission, and 23 (29.5%) patients suffered refractory or relapsed disease. The relapse rate of the patients with IgG4-RD was significantly higher among patients who stopped taking medicine than among those who continued treatment with glucocorticoids (GC) + immunosuppressor (IM). Serum TNF-α ≥ 13 pg/mL, sIL-2R ≥ 1010 U/mL, total cholesterol < 3.55 mmol/L, low-density lipoprotein < 2.0 mmol/L, IgG ≥ 20.2 g/L, and drug withdrawal were predictive factors for refractory and relapsed IgG4-RD. Multivariate Cox regression revealed that both sIL-2R and TNF-α were independent risk factors for refractory and relapsed disease. The combination of GC and IM treatment was an independent protective factor against refractory and relapsed IgG4-RD. CONCLUSIONS: High serum levels of sIL-2R and TNF-α may be informative risk factors for refractory and relapsed IgG4-RD. Our data suggest that a combination treatment of GC along with IM may be protective against refractory and relapsed IgG4-RD. Key Points • High sIL-2R and TNF-α levels are informative risk factors for refractory and relapsed IgG4-related disease. • Combination treatment of GC with IM protects against refractory and relapsed IgG4-related disease.

RESUMEN

The chest X-ray is routinely requested by pediatricians for children with suspected pneumonia, but has been demonstrated to be an insensitive method with relatively low accuracy. Computed tomography (CT) allows for the characterization of the consolidation in pneumonia but has a high risk of radiation exposure in children. Lung ultrasonography can identify subpleural lung consolidation in adults, but it is not accepted in routine clinical practice and is also not used for the diagnosis of children with pneumonia. The objective of the present study was to compare diagnostic parameters of lung ultrasound with chest X-ray in children with suspected pneumonia, using CT as a reference standard. Medical records of 949 children, aged ≤16 years, with suspected pneumonia were reviewed. Data regarding the chest radiograph, lung ultrasound and chest CT were collected and analyzed. Beneficial score analysis for each diagnostic modality was evaluated according to the pneumonia severity index. The chest radiograph successfully detected subpleural lung consolidation and dense lung opacity. The lung ultrasound successfully detected pleural effusion and perilesional inflammatory edema. The chest CT successfully detected a liquefied area, enhancement and necrosis of the lungs. Compared with the chest CT, the lung ultrasound displayed 0.906 sensitivity and 0.661 accuracy, while the chest radiograph displayed 0.793 sensitivity and 0.559 accuracy. For a pneumonia severity index of <3, the chest CT displayed a good beneficial score, followed by the lung ultrasound and chest radiograph. In conclusion, lung ultrasound is a non-invasive and simple method that could be used for the diagnosis of suspected pneumonia in children.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Foot reflexology has been considered an important complementary therapy for many health-related symptoms, especially for some chronic conditions such as anxiety, stress, pain and fatigue. Some studies also showed that foot reflexology had a significant effect on functional constipation, whereas some studies did not. The effect of foot reflexology on functional constipation remains controversial. Therefore, an evidence-based systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials were conducted to investigate the effect of foot reflexology on functional constipation. METHODS: Randomised controlled trials were identified by searching five electronic databases and hand-searching eligible reference lists. Studies that reported the effect of foot reflexology on functional constipation were included. Two reviewers performed the study screening, quality assessment and data extraction. Any discrepancy was discussed with a third reviewer. Quantitative synthesis was conducted for the same outcome measurements by calculating weighted risk ratios. RESULTS: A total of 203 records were identified, of which seven were eligible. Overall, foot reflexology significantly increased the curative ratio, with a pooled risk ratio of 1.27 (95% CI: 1.16, 1.40, p < 0.00001). Three trials compared the improvement of constipation-related symptoms after intervention in both the experimental and control groups by evaluating the constipation-related symptom scores. The results all showed that foot reflexology can effectively improve constipation-related symptoms. However, one trial reported that foot reflexology had no significant effect on stool frequency and stool consistency. Two studies indicated that foot reflexology significantly reduced the recurrence rate of functional constipation. One study reported the effect of foot reflexology on compliance with the toilet training, diet and motivation. Nevertheless, no significant improvement was detected. CONCLUSION: Foot reflexology is an effective complementary therapy for treating functional constipation. However, because of the small number of included studies and their small sample sizes, the current evidence was insufficient to support the effectiveness of foot reflexology in reducing the recurrence rate, improving the constipation-related symptom, and compliance with toilet training, diet and motivation. Randomised controlled trials with long-term follow-up are needed for further investigation.

RESUMEN

Taking the graduation ceremony of Peking University Health Science Center in 2020 as the observation object, this paper used Collins’ Interactive Ritual Chains Theory to analyze the form, theme and featured part of this ceremony from the dimensions of physical co-presence, barrier to outsiders, joint focus of attention and shared mood. It was found that the ceremony in medical colleges had an impact on the cognition, behavior and spirit of junior medical students in terms of group identity, emotional energy, group symbols and moral sense, which played a good role in professionalism education. Some enlightenment and thinking were obtained on this basis to provide some references for medical colleges to give full play to the educational function of the professionalism in the post-epidemic era.

RESUMEN

This paper summarized professor LIU Ruifen's clinical experience in treating endometrial hyperplasia. It is believed that the core pathogenesis of endometrial hyperplasia is internal obstruction of uterus and intrauterine collaterals by latent stasis. Based on the clinical manifestations, the menstrual cycle is divided into three stages, that is menstrual period, menstrual leakage period, and clear menstrual period, and the method of “three-staged stasis dispelling” is proposed. During the menstrual period, it is appropriate to move qi and invigorate blood, dissolve stasis and disperse concretions, with self-made Gongqing Formula (宫清方). For menstrual leakage period, it is suggested to boost qi and clear heat, dispel stasis and stanch bleeding, with self-made Tongyong Zhixue Formula (通用止血方). In terms of clear menstrual period, the method of dissolving phlegm and dissipating masses, moving qi and dispelling stasis is advised, and self-made Zhitong Tiaoxue Formula (止痛调血方) can be used. Simultaneously, attention should be paid to the combination of syndrome differentiation and disease differentiation, as well as collaborative diagnosis and treatment with traditional Chinese and Western medicine.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND:N6-methyladenosine(m6A)is a hot research topic in the mechanism of pathological cardiac remodeling and plays an important role in the development of cardiovascular diseases. OBJECTIVE:To summarize the possible mechanism by which m6A modification in non-coding RNAs regulates the main processes of pathological cardiac remodeling, such as pathological cardiac hypertrophy, cardiomyocyte death, myocardial fibrosis and vascular remodeling. METHODS:"m6A,non-coding RNA,pathological cardiac hypertrophy, cardiomyocyte apoptosis, cardiomyocyte pyroptosis, cardiomyocyte ferroptosis, myocardial fibrosis, vascular remodeling"were used as search terms in Chinese and English.Relevant literature from CNKI,PubMed and Web of Science databases published from January 1974 to April 2023 was retrieved, and finally 86 eligible articles were reviewed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:m6A modification is a highly dynamic and reversible modification.Pathological cardiac remodeling mainly involves pathological cardiac hypertrophy, cardiomyocyte apoptosis, cardiomyocyte pyroptosis, cardiomyocyte ferroptosis, myocardial fibrosis and vascular remodeling.m6A-related enzymes can regulate pathological cardiac remodeling processes through various non-coding RNAs and different signaling pathways, which can be used as a new potential intervention for cardiovascular diseases. In pathological cardiac remodeling, research on the regulatory relationship between m6A modification and non-coding RNAs is still in its infancy. With the development of epigenetics,m6A modification in non-coding RNAs is expected to have a new development in the regulation of pathological cardiac remodeling.

RESUMEN

To understand the progress of national schistosomiasis elimination program of China in 2023 and summarize the lessons and experiences, data on the endemic status of schistosomiasis and national schistosomiasis surveillance results in the People’s Republic of China were collected and analyzed at a national level. By the end of 2023, Shanghai Municipality, Zhejiang Province, Fujian Province, Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region continued to consolidate the achievements of schistosomiasis elimination, and Sichuan and Jiangsu provinces maintained the criteria of transmission interruption, while Yunnan and Hubei provinces were identified to achieve the criteria of transmission interruption in 2020, and Anhui, Jiangxi and Hunan provinces achieved the criteria of transmission interruption in 2023. A total of 451 counties (cites, districts) were found to be endemic for schistosomiasis in China in 2023, including 26 250 endemic villages covering 73 034 500 residents at risk of infections. Among the 451 endemic counties (cities, districts), 78.49% (354/451) achieved the criteria of schistosomiasis elimination and 21.51% (97/451) achieved the criteria of transmission interruption, respectively. In 2023, a total of 4 216 643 individuals received immunological tests, with 47 794 sero-positives identified, and a total of 184 216 individuals received parasitological examinations, with 4 egg-positives detected. A total of 27 768 cases with advanced schistosomiasis were documented in China by the end of 2023. In 2023, 539 548 bovines were raised in schistosomiasis-endemic areas of China, and 125 440 bovines received immunological tests, with 124 sero-positives detected, while no egg-positives were identified among the 133 508 bovines receiving parasitological examinations. In 2023, snail survey was performed at an area of 641 339.53 hm2 and 184 819.77 hm2 snail habitats were identified, including 51.53 hm2 emerging snail habitats and 642.25 hm2 reemerging snail habitats. In 2023, there were 20 198 schistosomiasis patients receiving praziquantel chemotherapy, and 598 183 person-time individuals and 283 954 herdtime bovines were given expanded chemotherapy. In 2023, snail control with chemical treatment was performed in 116 347.95 hm2 snail habitats, and the actual area of chemical treatment was 65 690.89 hm2, while environmental improvements were performed in snail habitats covering an area of 1 334.62 hm2. The national schistosomiasis surveillance results showed that the mean prevalence of Schistosoma japonicum infections were both zero among humans and bovines in 2023, and no S. japonicum infection was detected in snails. These data demonstrated that transmission interruption of schistosomiasis had been achieved across all endemic provinces in China in 2023, and the endemic status of schistosomiasis tended to be stable, while advanced cases were predominant among all schistosomiasis cases. However, the areas of snail habitats remained high and cattle re-raising was very common in some regions. Intensified schistosomiasis surveillance and forecast and snail control in high-risk areas are needed.

RESUMEN

Purpose@#Patients with multiple myeloma (MM) are prone to developing persistent renal insufficiency. Novel therapeutic medications have improved long-term survival, making kidney transplantation (KT) a viable treatment option for MM survivors with end-stage renal disease. This study aimed to investigate the clinical outcomes in patients with MM who have received KT. @*Methods@#Data from hospitalized patients ≥ 40 years of age with MM in the Nationwide Inpatient Sample 2016–2018 of the United States were queried. Patients were classified as having or not having undergone KT, as well as the stage of chronic kidney disease (CKD) for those who had not received KT. Propensity-score matching (PSM) was applied to balance the characteristics between the groups. Binary logistic regression was utilized to determine the associations between study variables and inhospital mortality, unfavorable discharges, prolonged length of stay (LOS), and major complications. @*Results@#In total, 50,654 hospitalized patients with MM were identified, of whom 165 (0.3%) had received KT and 50,489 had not (5,905 at stage 5 CKD [CKD5D], 11,559 at stage 1–4 CKD [CKD1-4D], and 33,025 who were CKD-free). After PSM, between-group demographic and hospital-related characteristics were balanced. Binary regression analysis revealed that, compared to patients who were CKD-free, patients at CKD5D were significantly more likely to experience a prolonged LOS (odds ratio [OR], 1.31; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.01–1.70) after adjusting for relevant confounders. Furthermore, compared to CKD-free patients, those who underwent KT were significantly more likely to have sepsis (OR, 1.48; 95% CI, 1.02–2.14). However, KT showed no association with the other adverse inpatient outcomes. @*Conclusions@#Although KT is not common in MM patients, those who had undergone KT had comparable hospital outcomes to CKD-free patients. These data will help clinicians deliver better consultations to MM patients attempting to receive KT.

RESUMEN

Based on the content of medical professionalism and the theoretical model of knowledge, belief and practice, this paper used the methods of "inductive category construction" and "deductive category construction" to form the categories and analyze the text, taking the narrative materials of 112 "volunteer stars" outstanding individuals selected by the pre-medical student office of student affairs department of Peking University Health Science Center from 2019 to 2021 as the research subjects. The findings demonstrated that volunteer service had a positive effect on the cultivation of medical professionalism of medical freshmen, and played an effective role in guiding medical freshmen from the two dimensions of knowledge and belief, in which the role of medical voluntary service was more obvious. However, the breadth and depth of volunteer service in cultivating medical professionalism were limited. Based on this, this paper proposed that medical colleges and universities should emphasize voluntary service in the cultivation of medical professionalism, especially the development of medical voluntary service activities designed for medical students, and strengthen the cultivation effect by coordinating with other cultivation methods.

RESUMEN

As prominent immune cells in the central nervous system, microglia constantly monitor the environment and provide neuronal protection, which are important functions for maintaining brain homeostasis. In the diseased brain, microglia are crucial mediators of neuroinflammation that regulates a broad spectrum of cellular responses. In this review, we summarize current knowledge on the multifunctional contributions of microglia to homeostasis and their involvement in neurodegeneration. We further provide a comprehensive overview of therapeutic interventions targeting microglia in neurodegenerative diseases. Notably, we propose microglial depletion and subsequent repopulation as promising replacement therapy. Although microglial replacement therapy is still in its infancy, it will likely be a trend in the development of treatments for neurodegenerative diseases due to its versatility and selectivity.
