RESUMEN

Due to the low-power consumption, self-driven ultraviolet (UV) photodetectors have great potentials in a broad range of applications, such as optical communication, ozone monitoring, bio-medicine, and flame detection. In this Letter, it is pretty novel to enhance the photocurrent and responsivity of self-driven UV photodetectors by (Al,Ga)N nanowire/graphene/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) heterojunction successfully. Compared to those of the photodetector with only nanowire/graphene heterojunction, it is found that both the photocurrent and responsivity of the photodetector with nanowire/graphene/PVDF heterojunction can be enhanced more than 100%. It is proposed that PVDF could maintain the internal gain by increasing the number of carrier cycles. Furthermore, this photodetector can also have a high detectivity of 5.3×1011 Jones and fast response speed under 310 nm illumination. After preserving for one month without any special protection, both photocurrent and responsivity of the photodetector with nanowire/graphene/PVDF heterojunction are demonstrated to be quite stable. Therefore, this work paves an effective way to improve the performance of photodetectors for their applications in the fields of next-generation optoelectronic devices.

Because of wide range of applications, the flexible artificial synapse is an indispensable part for next-generation neural morphology computing. In this work, we demonstrate a flexible synaptic device based on a lift-off (In,Ga)N thin film successfully. The synaptic device can mimic the learning, forgetting, and relearning functions of biological synapses at both flat and bent states. Furthermore, the synaptic device can simulate the transition from short-term memory to long-term memory successfully under different bending conditions. With the high flexibility, the excitatory post-synaptic current of the bent device only shows a slight decrease, leading to the high stability. Based on the experimental conductance for long-term potentiation and depression, the simulated three-layer neural network can achieve a high recognition rate up to 90.2%, indicating that the system comprising of flexible synaptic devices could have a strong learning-memory capability. Therefore, this work has a great potential for the development of wearable intelligence devices and flexible neuromorphic systems.

Due to the requirements of oceanography exploration and detection, self-powered photodetectors (PDs) with low-power consumption are essential for the next-generation optoelectronic applications. In this work, we successfully demonstrate a self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) PD in seawater based on the (In,Ga)N/GaN core-shell heterojunction nanowires. Compared to those of the PD in pure water, it is found that the upward and downward overshooting features of current can be the key reason contributing to the much faster response speed of the PD in seawater. Thanks to the enhanced response speed, the rise time of PD can be reduced more than 80%, and the fall time remains only 30% by applying in seawater instead of pure water. The key factors of generating these overshooting features should be the instantaneous temperature gradient, carrier accumulation and elimination on the semiconductor/electrolyte interfaces at the moments of light on and off. By the analysis of experimental results, the Na+ and Cl- ions are proposed to be the main factors affecting the PD behavior in seawater, which can enhance the conductivity and accelerate the oxidation-reduction reaction significantly. This work paves an effective way to develop the new self-powered PDs for the wide applications in under-seawater detection and communication.

Several studies have shown the tumorigenesis role of transcriptional enhancer associate domain (TEAD) proteins; here, we initially explored expression, function and signalling mechanisms of TEAD4 in lung adenocarcinoma (LAD). Both the mRNA and protein levels of TEAD4 were increased in LAD tissues than those in adjacent nontumourous tissues. Besides, database search indicated a poorer clinical outcome in LAD patients with higher TEAD4 expression, revealing its potential tumour-promoting role. Therefore, we conducted cellular experiments to further investigate its effect on tumour phenotypes. Accordingly, TEAD4 showed little impact on LAD cell cycle, proliferation, or apoptosis. However, silencing TEAD4 remarkably attenuated cell migration and invasion capacities. Consistently, several important epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers such as E-cadherin and Slug were consequently altered by silencing TEAD4. Furthermore, we identified a novel TEAD4-targeted microRNA, namely miR6839-3p, and confirmed its function in suppressing TEAD4 expression. Finally, the impact of overexpressing miR6839-3p mimics on LAD progression was validated, which showed a similar pattern with TEAD4 knockdown cells. Taken together, our data not only revealed the significant role of TEAD4 in promoting LAD progression and predicting clinical outcome but also distinguished miR6839-3p mimics as a promising therapeutic direction.

BACKGROUND: The authors built a model for lung cancer diagnosis previously based on the blood biomarkers progastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC), and cytokeratin 19 fragment (CYFRA21-1). In the current study, they examined whether modification of the model to include relevant clinical information, risk factors, and low-dose chest computed tomography screening would improve the performance of the biomarker panel in large cohorts of Chinese adults. METHODS: The current study was a large-scale multicenter study (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT01928836) performed in a Chinese population. A total of 715 participants were enrolled from 5 regional centers in Beijing, Henan, Nanjing, Shanghai, and Chongqing between October 2012 and February 2014. Serum biomarkers ProGRP, CEA, SCC, and CYFRA21-1 were analyzed on the ARCHITECT i2000SR. Relevant clinical information was collected and used to develop a patient risk model and a nodule risk model. RESULTS: The resulting patient risk model had an area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of 0.7037 in the training data set and 0.7190 in the validation data set. The resulting nodule risk model had an area under the ROC curve of 0.9151 in the training data set and 0.5836 in the validation data set. Moreover, the nodule risk model had a relatively higher area under the ROC curve (0.9151 vs 0.8360; P = 0.001) compared with the American College of Chest Physician model in patients with lung nodules. CONCLUSIONS: Both the patient risk model and the nodule risk model, developed for the early diagnosis of lung cancer, demonstrated excellent discrimination, allowing for the stratification of patients with different levels of lung cancer risk. Although flexible monolithic bifunctional devices are significant for next-generation optoelectronic devices, it is quite challenging to realize them. In this work, a flexible monolithic device with both functions of emission and self-driven detection has been proposed and demonstrated successfully. By a quick electrochemical etching method, the device is created using a lift-off (In,Ga)N film detaching from the epitaxial silicon substrate. The Si removal is beneficial for releasing stress and reducing the internal polarization effects under bending conditions, keeping the electroluminescence peak wavelength quite stable. With good flexibility, the monolithic bifunctional device can maintain both stable detection and emission performance under bending conditions. Furthermore, two functions of detection and lighting of the flexible monolithic device can not only be realized separately but also simultaneously. This means that the flexible monolithic device can detect and emit light at the same time. With the advantages of miniaturization and multifunctionality, this work paves an effective way to develop new monolithic multifunctional devices for both self-driven detection and wearable intelligent display.

Due to the wide range of potential applications for next-generation multi-functional devices, the flexible self-powered photodetector (PD) with polarity-switchable behavior is essential but very challenging to be realized. Herein, a wearable bidirectional self-powered PD based on detached (Al,Ga)N and (In,Ga)N nanowires has been proposed and demonstrated successfully. Arising from the photovoltage-competing dynamics across (Al,Ga)N and (In,Ga)N nanowire photoelectrodes, such PD can generate the positive (33.3 mA W -1) and negative (-0.019 mA W -1) photo-responsivity under ultraviolet (UV) and visible illumination, respectively, leading to the bidirectional photocurrent behavior. Thanks to the introduction of quasi solid-state hydrogel, the PD can work without the liquid-electrolyte, thus remarkably reducing the volume from about 482 cm3 to only 0.18 cm3. Furthermore, the use of hydrogel is found to enhance response speed in the UV range by reducing the response time for more than 95%, which is mainly attributed to the increased open circuit potential and reduced ion transport distance. As the GaN connecting segment is pretty thin, the piezoelectric charges generated by stress are proposed to have only a limited effect on the photocurrent density. Therefore, both the stable on-off switching characteristics and photocurrent densities can still be achieved after being bent 400 times. With an excellent flexibility, this work creates opportunities for technological applications of bidirectional photocurrent PDs in flexible optoelectronic devices, e.g., wearable intelligent sensors.

Endometriosis is defined as the presence of endometrial glands and stroma outside the uterus. Adolescent endometriosis is often confined to the pelvic cavity and is a common cause of secondary dysmenorrhea in adolescents. Adolescent endometriosis is often with delayed diagnosis. Early diagnosis and intervention can prevent the damage of pelvic structure and ovarian tissue and reduce the incidence of adhesion and infertility. Adolescent endometriosis can be diagnosed and treated by laparoscopic biopsy. There are many kinds of drugs to treat endometriosis, such as NSAIDs, progesterone, selective progesterone receptor antagonists, GnRH-a, gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonists, aromatase inhibitors, dopamine agonists, angiogenesis inhibitors, vegetable drugs, traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions. Future treatment options, including Future treatment options include CTZ, vitamin D3, oxytocin receptor inhibitors, melatonin, doxycycline, bevacizumab, curcumin, isotretinoin, and rosiglitazone, etc., can inhibit ectopic lesions. This article mainly summarizes advances in medical treatment underlying adolescent endometriosis and provides guidance for the early clinical diagnosis and intervention of adolescent endometriosis, to improve the quality of life of patients and reduce adverse outcomes.

BACKGROUND: The microbiome of tonsils and adenoid in adenotonsillar hypertrophy (ATH) has been profiled. Adenotonsillectomy (AT) is widely used for ATH in children. The variation of the oropharyngeal microecology in children with ATH or after AT have never been studied. OBJECTIVES: Here we aimed to evaluate the change in oropharyngeal microbiome in ATH Children after AT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, throat swabs for microbiome analysis were collected from ATH, AT and control groups. Using 16s rDNA sequencing, this study investigated the characteristics of oropharyngeal microbiome. RESULTS: The α-diversity showed a statistical difference in richness and the ß-diversity was significantly different among the three groups. The relative abundance of Haemophilus (member of Proteobacteria) increased but that of Actinomyces (member of Actinobacteriota) decreased in the ATH group compared to those in the AT and control groups, but their abundances showed no statistical difference between the AT and control groups. CONCLUSIONS: The oropharyngeal microbial diversity and composition are disrupted in children with ATH and can be restored after AT. This microbiome analysis provides a new understanding about the pathogenesis of ATH in children.SummaryIn this study, we aimed to evaluate the change in oropharyngeal microbiome in ATH Children after AT. Self-driven broadband photodetectors (PDs) with low-power consumption have great potential applications in the wide range of next-generation optoelectronic devices. In this study, a self-driven broadband PD responding to an ultraviolet-visible range based on gallium nitride/gold nanocluster (GaN/AuNC) core-shell nanowire heterojunctions is fabricated for the first time. By introducing the AuNCs onto the GaN nanowire surfaces, the GaN/AuNC core-shell nanowire heterojunctions can be formed efficiently. It is crucial that AuNCs have the functions of light collectors and hole conductors in heterojunctions due to the suitable energy level alignment. Under the optimized conditions of AuNCs, it is found that GaN/AuNC core-shell nanowires can significantly increase the photocurrent and responsivity of PDs, mainly resulting from the light interreflection within the heterojunctions and the effective improvement of carrier transport. Owing to the excitation-dependent emission behavior of AuNCs, the responsivity of PD with GaN/AuNC core-shell nanowire heterojunctions can be enhanced by around 330% compared with that of PD without AuNCs under visible illumination. Furthermore, GaN/AuNC hybrid nanowires with excitation-dependent fluorescence behavior can modulate the enhanced amplitude performance of broadband PDs. Owing to the high stability of AuNCs, the photocurrent of the PD with AuNCs is still quite stable after continuous operation for more than 20 000 s. Therefore, this study provides an effective method for developing new broadband PDs with high performance and low energy consumption.

BACKGROUND: Ovarian mucinous carcinoma is a disease that requires unique treatment. But for a long time, guidelines for ovarian serous carcinoma have been used for the treatment of ovarian mucinous carcinoma. This study aimed to construct and validate nomograms for predicting the overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in patients with ovarian mucinous adenocarcinoma. METHODS: In this study, patients initially diagnosed with ovarian mucinous adenocarcinoma from 2004 to 2015 were screened from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, and divided into the training group and the validation group at a ratio of 7:3. Independent risk factors for OS and CSS were determined by multivariate Cox regression analysis, and nomograms were constructed and validated. RESULTS: In this study, 1309 patients with ovarian mucinous adenocarcinoma were finally screened and randomly divided into 917 cases in the training group and 392 cases in the validation group according to a 7:3 ratio. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that the independent risk factors of OS were age, race, T_stage, N_stage, M_stage, grade, CA125, and chemotherapy. Independent risk factors of CSS were age, race, marital, T_stage, N_stage, M_stage, grade, CA125, and chemotherapy. According to the above results, the nomograms of OS and CSS in ovarian mucinous adenocarcinoma were constructed. In the training group, the C-index of the OS nomogram was 0.845 (95% CI: 0.821-0.869) and the C-index of the CSS nomogram was 0.862 (95%CI: 0.838-0.886). In the validation group, the C-index of the OS nomogram was 0.843 (95% CI: 0.810-0.876) and the C-index of the CSS nomogram was 0.841 (95%CI: 0.806-0.876). The calibration curve showed the consistency between the predicted results and the actual results, indicating the high accuracy of the nomogram. CONCLUSION: The nomogram provides 3-year and 5-year OS and CSS predictions for patients with ovarian mucinous adenocarcinoma, which helps clinicians predict the prognosis of patients and formulate appropriate treatment plans.

Background: Long-term application of antiresorptive and/or antiangiogenic agents may cause oral disorders, including medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), which remains an incurable disease. Surgical treatment can help alleviate infection of the jaw and block the progress of the disease, but postoperative recurrence is often caused by incomplete resection of necrotic bone during surgery. The traditional method for determining the boundary of necrotic bone resection is primarily based on the color, geology, and microcirculation-based bleeding state according to the bone tissue, which is easily affected by the surgeon's clinical experience and can cause insufficient resection of osteonecrosis bone. Recent studies have proposed using fluorescence technology-assisted necrotic bone resection. Objective: Systematic literature review was conducted to evaluate the therapeutic effectiveness of fluorescence-guided MRONJ surgery. Design: PubMed/MedLine, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were searched from inception to February 7, 2022. Randomized controlled trial (RCT) studies were evaluated according to the Cochrane risk of bias tool ROB 2, and non-RCT (N-RCT) studies were evaluated according to the ROBINS-I tool. Results: A total of 6 articles were included in the systematic review, including 4 N-RCT studies (1 retrospective study and 3 prospective studies) and 2 RCT studies, with 240 patients and 280 MRONJ lesions. The vast majority of studies were with moderate risk of bias, and the quality of the evidence was moderate. Conclusion: Evidence of moderate strength suggests that fluorescence-assisted techniques effectively determine the bone resection boundaries in MRONJ surgery. However, whether the prognosis of patients treated with fluorescence-guided surgery is significantly better than that of traditional surgery must be proved by randomized controlled studies with larger sample sizes and higher quality.

Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) is a wireless communication technology using visible light to transmit data in an underwater environment, which has wide applications. Based on lift-off (In,Ga)N nanowires, this work has proposed and successfully demonstrated a self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) photodetector (PD) with excellent transmissivity. The transparent functionality of the PD is critical for 360° omnidirectional underwater detection, which was realized by detaching the (In,Ga)N nanowires from the opaque epitaxial substrates to the indium tin oxide (ITO)/glass. It was also found that the insulating SiO2 layer can enhance the photocurrent by about 12 times. The core-shell structure of the nanowires is beneficial for generating carriers and contributing to the photocurrent. Furthermore, a communication system with ASCII code is set to demonstrate the PD detection in underwater communication. This work paves an effective way to develop 360° omnidirectional PDs for the wide applications in UWOC system and underwater photodetection.

Due to the wide applications of blue and red photodetectors, dual-wavelength (blue/red) photodetectors are promising for future markets. In this work, a dual-wavelength photodetector based on vertical (In,Ga)N nanowires and graphene has been fabricated successfully. By using the transparent graphene, both blue and red responses can be clearly detected. The rise time of response can reach 3.5 ms. Furthermore, the underlying mechanism of double responses has also been analyzed. The main reason contributing to the dual-wavelength response could be the different diameters of nanowires, leading to different In components within (In,Ga)N sections.

The purpose of our study was to explore the value of measuring cognitive functions for predicting the conversion to psychosis in Chinese college students with a clinical high risk (CHR). A total of 115 CHR students and 99 healthy controls were enrolled. All included participants were recruited from colleges in Wuhan, China. The MATRICS Consensus Cognitive Battery was used to evaluate cognitive function. CHR individuals were followed for 2 years, and the cognitive function of CHR individuals who later converted to psychosis (CHR-C) was compared to CHR individuals who did not convert (CHR-NC). Of the 107 CHR individuals that completed the 2- year follow-up, 29 (27.1%) developed a psychotic disorder. CHR individuals demonstrated poorer performance on all cognitive function tests compared to controls. CHR-C participants exhibited poorer performance on all cognitive tests except the Trail Making Test A and Continuous Performance Test-Identical Pairs compared to CHR-NC participants. The most significant differences displayed between CHR-C and CHR-NC groups were in visual learning, working memory, and reasoning and problem solving. The degree of cognitive impairment in visual learning and working memory may be a predictive marker for individuals who are at risk of developing psychosis.

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-based immunotherapy has improved the clinical outcome of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, current indicators, such as programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression in tumors or tumor mutational burden (TMB), are not considered ideal biomarkers for prognosis. Thus, there is an urgent requirement for a comprehensive risk scoring system. METHODS: In this study, we enrolled 464 NSCLC patients who received ICIs between March 2017 and January 2020 at four clinical centers. Univariate and multivariate (the logistic and the Cox regression) analyses were conducted to screen clinically relevant variables. Significant parameters (P<0.05) including absolute lymphocyte count (ALC, L), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Performance Status (ECOG PS, E) and lung/pleural metastasis (M) were selected for LEM score. Weighted values based on odds ratio and hazard ratio of multiple analyses were assigned to each parameter. LEM score was the sum of weighted values of each variable (Good, 0-1; Intermediate, 2-3; Poor, 4-6). Kaplan-Meier curves were used to evaluate the association between LEM score and progression-free survival (PFS). RESULTS: In total, 258 patients were pooled and stratified into three risk categories based on the LEM score. Objective response rate (ORR) was significantly higher in the good-risk group compared with the poor-risk group [55.9% vs. 7.3%, odds ratio (OR), 0.023; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.005-0.099; P<0.001]. Patients with good risk [hazard ratio (HR), 0.130; 95% CI, 0.084-0.203; median PFS, 12.5 months; P<0.001] or intermediate risk (HR, 0.330; 95% CI, 0.222-0.490; median PFS, 4.2 months; P<0.001) had longer PFS than those with poor risk (median PFS, 2.1 months). DNA sequencing was performed in 41 patients [no durable benefit (NDB): n=29; durable clinical benefit (DCB): n=12] and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations were enriched in samples of the NDB group vs. the DCB group (11/29 vs. 1/12; Fisher's exact P=0.073; OR, 6.722; 95% CI, 0.760-59.479). Additionally, patients with EGFR mutations had higher LEM scores than those with wild-type EGFR. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the LEM score provided a potential prognostic biomarker for NSCLC patients treated with ICIs.

According to the global cancer statistic, lung cancer is one of the most dangerous tumors, which poses a serious threat to human health. Exploration the mechanism of lung cancer and new targeted therapeutic measures is always the hot topic. Long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) is an important factor affecting the development of tumors. However, the research on the mechanism of lncRNA in the progress of lung cancer needs to be further expanded. In this study, we found that the expression of lncRNA GMDS-AS1 was significantly reduced in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) tissues and cells. Upregulated GMDS-AS1 can significantly inhibit the proliferation of LUAD cells and promote cell apoptosis in vitro and in vivo. The results indicate that GMDS-AS1 acts as a tumor suppressor gene to affect the development of LUAD. Further studies revealed that GMDS-AS1 is a target gene of miR-96-5p, and GMDS-AS1 regulates proliferation and apoptosis of LUAD cells in association with miR-96-5p. In addition, we also confirmed that CYLD lysine 63 deubiquitinase (CYLD) is also a target gene of miR-96-5p. Through various validations, we confirmed that GMDS-AS1 can act as a ceRNA to upregulate the expression of CYLD by sponging miR-96-5p. Moreover, the intervention of GMDS-AS1/miR-96-5p/CYLD network can regulate the proliferation and apoptosis of LUAD cells. In this study, we revealed that the GMDS-AS1/miR-96-5p/CYLD network based on ceRNA mechanism plays an important role in the development of LUAD and provides a new direction and theoretical basis for targeted therapy of LUAD.

BACKGROUND: Many benign pulmonary lesions, especially sarcoidosis, are metabolically active and are indistinguishable from lung cancer using 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) imaging. This study sought to analyze the 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging features of benign pulmonary lesions and to improve the differential diagnosis of benign pulmonary lesions by 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging. METHODS: One hundred and thirteen patients with benign pulmonary lesions were studied retrospectively. Each patient underwent an 18F-FDG PET/CT scan. All cases were identified by pathology, diagnostic therapy or follow-up. The maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) was calculated for each pulmonary lesion. RESULTS: According to the final results, the benign pulmonary lesions were classified as inflammatory lesions (n=77) and granulomas (n=36) by histopathological diagnoses. The SUVmax of inflammatory lesions and granulomas were both high (4.55±2.77 and 6.81±3.96, respectively; P<0.05). When the benign pulmonary lesions were classified by clinical diagnoses, the SUVmax of sarcoidosis was significantly different from other diseases (15.12±5.67; P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Inflammatory lesions and granulomas show moderate or high FDG uptake on 18F-FDG PET/CT, but granulomas have higher values. 18F-FDG PET/CT appeared to have a higher SUVmax for the differential diagnosis of sarcoidosis and benign pulmonary lesions.

Platelets are implicated as key players in the metastatic dissemination of tumor cells. Previous evidence demonstrated platelets retained cytoplasmic RNAs with physiologically activity, splicing pre-mRNA to mRNA and translating into functional proteins in response to external stimulation. Recently, platelets gene profile of healthy or diseased individuals were characterized with the help of RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) in some studies, leading to new insights into the mechanisms underlying disease pathogenesis. In this study, we performed RNA-seq in platelets from 7 healthy individuals and 15 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Our data revealed a subset of near universal differently expressed gene (DEG) profiles in platelets of metastatic NSCLC compared to healthy individuals, including 626 up-regulated RNAs (mRNAs and ncRNAs) and 1497 down-regulated genes. The significant over-expressed genes showed enrichment in focal adhesion, platelets activation, gap junction and adherens junction pathways. The DEGs also included previously reported tumor-related genes such as PDGFR, VEGF, EGF, etc., verifying the consistence and significance of platelet RNA-Seq in oncology study. We also validated several up-regulated DEGs involved in tumor cell-induced platelet aggregation (TCIPA) and tumorigenesis. Additionally, transcriptomic comparison analyses of NSCLC subgroups were conducted. Between non-metastatic and metastatic NSCLC patients, 526 platelet DEGs were identified with the most altered expression. The outcomes from subgroup analysis between lung adenocarcinoma and lung squamous cell carcinoma demonstrated the diagnostic potential of platelet RNA-Seq on distinguishing tumor histological types.

BACKGROUND: Uncertainty remains on the association between image characteristics of the nodules in computed tomography (CT) scans and lung adenocarcinoma histopathologic subtypes. We aimed to estimate the correlation between preoperative high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scan and postoperative histopathology of stage IA lung adenocarcinoma in East Asian Chinese population. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records and HRCT images of 190 patients (106 female and 84 male) with resected, preoperatively untreated stage IA adenocarcinomas. The relationship between image characteristics of nodules at preoperative HRCT and their histological subtypes after resection were analyzed. The one-way ANOVA, chi-square test and logistic regression were used for analysis. RESULTS: In 190 patients with stage IA lung adenocarcinoma, median tumor diameter was significantly lower in lepidic predominant invasive adenocarcinoma (LPA) (15.96±6.95 mm). Univariate analysis revealed that ground-glass opacity (GGO) proportion (P<0.001), margin (P<0.001), border definition (P=0.015), pleural retraction (P<0.001) and enhancement (P<0.001) had statistically significant differences in four histological subtypes. The multivariate analysis referenced for lepidic group which indicated that GGO proportion and pleural retraction were independent associated with acinar group (RR=4.221, 95% CI: 1.770-10.066, P=0.001; RR=0.380, 95% CI: 0.158-0.916, P=0.031, respectively). Male and whose nodule margin with spiculation or lobulation were prone to papillary predominant invasive adenocarcinoma (PPA) (RR=0.288, 95% CI: 0.090-0.920, P=0.036; RR=0.250, 95% CI: 0.070-0.887, P=0.032, respectively). GGO proportion and nodule margin were independent related factors in solid predominant invasive adenocarcinoma (SPA) (RR=13.338, 95% CI: 2.974-59.811, P=0.001; RR=0.097, 95% CI: 0.016-0.606, P=0.013, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Nodules with spiculation or lobulation and less GGO proportion are determinants of histological subtypes with poor prognosis in stage IA lung adenocarcinoma patients according to the 2011 histologic IASLC/ATS/ERS classification.
