ABSTRACT
The modes of a stable laser resonator containing, near one mirror, an absorbing mask with two apertures have been calculated on the basis of scalar diffraction theory and experimentally observed in a pulsed NdYAG laser. The mode structure has been investigated as a function of the mask geometry, and an interpretation in terms of supermodes is provided.
