RESUMEN

We numerically investigate the excitation of vector solitonic pulse with orthogonally polarized components via free-carrier effects in microresonators with normal group velocity dispersion (GVD). The dynamics of single, dual and oscillated vector pulses are unveiled under turn-key excitation with a single frequency-fixed CW laser source. Parameter spaces associated with detuning, polarization angle, interval between the pumped orthogonal resonances and pump amplitude have been revealed. Different vector pulse states can also be observed exploiting the traditional pump scanning scheme. Simultaneous and independent excitation regimes are identified due to varying interval of the orthogonal pump modes. The nonlinear coupling between two modes contributes to the distortion of the vector pulses' profile. The free-carrier effects and the pump polarization angle provide additional degrees of freedom for efficiently controlling the properties of the vector solitonic microcombs. Moreover, the crucial thermal dynamics in microcavities is discussed and weak thermal effects are found to be favorable for delayed vector pulse formation. These findings reveal complex excitation mechanism of solitonic structures and could provide novel routes for microcomb generation.

The application of multidimensional optical sensing technologies, such as the spectral light field (SLF) imager, has become increasingly common in recent years. The SLF sensors provide information in the form of one-dimensional spectral data, two-dimensional spatial data, and two-dimensional angular measurements. Spatial-spectral and angular data are essential in a variety of fields, from computer vision to microscopy. Beam-splitters or expensive camera arrays are required for the usage of SLF sensors. The paper describes a low-cost RGB light field camera-based compressed snapshot SLF imaging method. Inspired by the compressive sensing paradigm, the four dimensional SLF can be reconstructed from a measurement of an RGB light field camera via a network which is proposed by utilizing a U-shaped neural network with multi-head self-attention and unparameterized Fourier transform modules. This method is capable of gathering images with a spectral resolution of 10 nm, angular resolution of 9 × 9, and spatial resolution of 622 × 432 within the spectral range of 400 to 700 nm. It provides us an alternative approach to implement the low cost SLF imaging.

Aeromonas veronii (A. veronii), a highly pathogenic bacteria with a wide range of hosts, widely exists in the environment of humans, animals and aquatic animals, and can cause a variety of diseases. In this study, the receptor regulator ompR in the envZ/ompR of two-component system was selected to construct a mutant strain (Δ ompR) and a complement strain (C-ompR) to explore the regulatory effect of ompR on the biological characteristics and virulence of TH0426. The results showed that the ability of biofilm formation and osmotic stress of TH0426 were significantly reduced (P < 0.001), the resistance to ceftriaxone and neomycin were slightly down-regulate when the ompR gene was deleted. At the same time, animal pathogenicity experiments showed that the virulence of TH0426 was significantly down-regulated (P < 0.001). These results indicated that ompR gene regulates the biofilm formation of TH0426, and regulates some biological characteristics of TH0426, including drug sensitivity, resistance to osmotic stress, and also affects its virulence.

Apart from the central role of the activated JAK/STAT signaling pathway, ASXL1 mutations are the most recurrent additional mutations in myeloproliferative neoplasms and occur much more commonly in myelofibrosis than in essential thrombocythemia and polycythemia vera. However, the mechanism of the association with ASXL1 mutations and bone marrow fibrosis remains unknown. Here, integrating our own data from patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms and a hematopoietic-specific Asxl1 deletion/Jak2V617F mouse model, we show that ASXL1 mutations are associated with advanced myeloproliferative neoplasm phenotypes and onset of myelofibrosis. ASXL1 mutations induce skewed monocyte/macrophage and neoplastic monocyte-derived fibrocyte differentiation, consequently they enhance inflammation and bone marrow fibrosis. Consistently, the loss of ASXL1 and JAK2V617F mutations in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells leads to enhanced activation of polycomb group target genes, such as EGR1. The upregulation of EGR1, in turn, accounts for increased hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell commitment to the monocyte/macrophage lineage. Moreover, EGR1 induces the activation of TNFA and thereby further drives the differentiation of monocytes to fibrocytes. Accordingly, combined treatment with a TNFR antagonist and ruxolitinib significantly reduces fibrocyte production in vitro. Altogether, these findings demonstrate that ASXL1 mutations accelerate fibrocyte production and inflammation in myeloproliferative neoplasms via the EGR1-TNFA axis, explaining the cellular and molecular basis for bone marrow fibrosis and the proof-ofconcept for anti-fibrosis treatment.

We demonstrate an emergent solitonic pulse generation approach exploiting the externally introduced or intrinsic loss fluctuation effects. Single or multiple pulses are accessible via self-evolution of the system in the red, blue detuning regime or even on resonance with loss perturbation. The potential well caused by the loss profile not only traps the generated pulses, but also helps to suppress the drift regarding high-order dispersion. Breathing dynamics is also observed with high driving force, which can be transferred to stable state by backward tuning the pump detuning. We further investigate the intrinsic free carrier absorption, recognized as unfavored effect traditionally, could be an effective factor for pulse excitation through the time-variant loss fluctuation in normal dispersion microresonators. Pulse excitation dynamics associated with physical parameters are also discussed. These findings could establish a feasible path for stable localized structures and Kerr microcombs generation in potential platforms.

We investigate the dark breathers and Raman-Kerr microcombs generation influenced by stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) and high-order dispersion (HOD) effects in silicon microresonators with an integrated spatiotemporal formalism. The strong and narrow Raman gain constitute a threshold behavior with respect to free spectral range above which stable dark pulses can exist. The breathing dark pulses induced by HOD mainly depend on the amplitude and sign of third-order dispersion coefficient and their properties are also affected by the Raman assisted four wave mixing process. Such dissipative structures formed through perturbed switching waves, mainly exist in a larger red detuning region than that of stable dark pulses. Their breathing characteristics related to driving conditions have been analyzed in detail. Furthermore, the octave spanning mid-infrared (MIR) frequency combs via Cherenkov radiation are demonstrated, which circumvent chaotic and multi-soliton states compared with their anomalous dispersion-based counterpart. Our findings provide a viable way to investigate the physics inside dark pulses and broadband MIR microcombs generation.

We theoretically demonstrate a novel, to the best of our knowledge, mechanism for dark pulse excitation in normal dispersion microresonators exploiting free carrier dispersion and free carrier absorption effects due to multi-photon absorption. Dark pulses can be generated in the three- and four-photon absorption regimes in the presence or absence of external reverse bias to control the lifetime of free carriers, respectively. Direct generation of dark pulses is proven to be feasible in both regimes with a frequency fixed laser. The dynamics of their temporal and spectral evolution have also been investigated. Our findings establish a reliable path for dark pulse and Kerr microcomb generation in related platforms with simplified controlling and tuning techniques.

The release of Mn(II) occurs in the degradation of organic matters by manganese ore (MnO2), resulting in a reduced efficiency. During the degradation of ciprofloxacin (CIP), in a biofilter, this paper put forward a novel method that similar to the geo-cycle of Mn (MnCS) on the Earth to regenerate MnO2. The freshly prepared MnO2 was suitable for the use in the MnCS. It indicated that the mutual conversion between Mn(II), Mn(III), and Mn(IV) in the MnCS, which was driven by CIP and manganese oxidizing bacteria (MnOB), could maintain the activity of MnO2. The MnCS showed feasibility in the coexistence of ammonia or humic acid, and provided a kinetic degradation. The physicochemical features of MnO2 before and after bio-regeneration were characterized by TEM, XRD, BET, and XPS. It was found that the morphological structure of MnO2 became loose and the maximum peak of pore size distribution became smaller, but the increase of surface area, the change of Mn(III/IV) content, and the decrease of crystallinity favored the bio-regeneration process. Moreover, as a mediator in the MnCS, the group of MnOB was dramatically inhibited by CIP, and the bacterial community had changed significantly. The typical MnOB shared low abundance in the biofilter, while the rarely reported genera (e.g. Sphingomonas) that related to the formation of Mn deposits appeared to be involved in the MnCS.

Alfalfa root rot caused by Fusarium tricinctum is one of the most important soilborne diseases, resulting in significant losses to alfalfa agriculture worldwide. Fungicides used in management of the disease affect the environment and human health. In this study, a strain of Ochrobactrum intermedium (I-5), isolated from alfalfa rhizosphere soil, exhibited strong antifungal activity against a number of causative pathogens of alfalfa root rot and showed the strongest antagonistic activity against F. tricinctum (a longest radius/shortest radius ratio of 3.09). When applied at 10%, a filtrate of the strain liquid culture significantly reduced the spore production and germination and mycelial growth of F. tricinctum, and the inhibition rates were 76.67, 78.93, and 55.77%, respectively. Furthermore, a filtrate and suspension of the strain, when applied at 10%, reduced alfalfa root rot by >73% in repeated experiments. The strain clearly promoted the activities of invertase, urease, cellulose, and neutral phosphatase in alfalfa rhizosphere soil and significantly reduced the damage to rhizosphere soil quality attributable to alfalfa root rot. Moreover, the strain clearly promoted the growth of alfalfa without causing any evident damage to plants. The active substance produced by the strain was insensitive to heat and ultraviolet irradiation and displayed optimal efficacy at pH 8. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study describing the use of O. intermedium for the biological control of alfalfa root rot. O. intermedium (I-5) has potential for application in the control of alfalfa root rot and improvement of the quality of cultivated alfalfa.

Optical trapping has become a powerful tool in numerous fields such as biology, physics, chemistry, etc. In conventional optical trapping systems, trapping and imaging share the same objective lens, confining the region of observation to the focal plane. For the capture of optical trapping processes occurring in other planes, especially the axial plane (the one containing the z-axis), many methods have been proposed to achieve this goal. Here, we review the methods of acquiring the axial-plane information from which axial plane trapping is observed and discuss their advantages and limitations. To overcome the limitations existing in these methods, we developed an optical tweezers system that allows for simultaneous optical trapping and imaging in the axial plane. The versatility and usefulness of the system in axial-plane trapping and imaging are demonstrated by investigating its trapping performance with various optical fields, including Bessel, Airy, and snake-like beams. The potential applications of the reported technique are suggested to several research fields, including optical pulling, longitudinal optical binding, tomographic phase microscopy (TPM), and super-resolution microscopy.

Benefitting from the development of commercial spatial light modulator (SLM), holographic optical tweezers (HOT) have emerged as a powerful tool for life science, material science and particle physics. The calculation of computer-generated holograms (CGH) for generating multi-focus arrays plays a key role in HOT for trapping of a bunch of particles in parallel. To realize dynamic 3D manipulation, we propose a new tilted-plane GS algorithm for fast generation of multiple foci. The multi-focal spots with a uniformity of 99% can be generated in a tilted plane. The computation time for a CGH with 512×512 pixels is less than 0.1 second. We demonstrated the power of the algorithm by simultaneously trapping and rotating silica beads with a 7×7 spots array in three dimensions. The presented algorithm is expected as a powerful kernel of HOT.

We demonstrated a compact optical module that is capable of efficiently generating vector vortex beams (VVB). With this device, a linearly polarized input beam can be converted into a vector beam with arbitrary spatial polarization and phase distributions, accompanied by an energy utilization up to 61%. Equally important, the area utilization of the spatial light modulator, a key component in the device, is as high as 65.5%. With the designed vector-vortex-beam-generation module, several types of VVBs with different vortex topological charges and spatial polarization distributions were created experimentally. This device may find applications in optical tweezers, laser machining, and so on.

Cadmium (Cd) is the most abundant heavy metal in aquatic environments and is easily detected on a global scale. Carassius auratus gibelio is a common aquaculture species. The aim of this study was to explore the toxic effects of 1, 2, and 4 mg/L Cd on the energy metabolism, growth performance, and neurological responses of C. gibelio. After 30 days of exposure, Cd concentrations in the liver and brain were significantly increased in Cd-exposed groups. Low-level Cd exposure (1 mg/L) increased weight and length gains, as well as food intake, in the fish. Acetylcholinesterase activity decreased significantly in the Cd-exposed groups. Energy metabolism levels (as reflected by oxygen consumption, ammonia excretion rate, and swimming activity), as well as serum T3 and T4 levels, increased significantly in the fish exposed to 1 mg/L Cd. However, energy metabolism and serum T3/T4 levels decreased significantly in the 4-mg/L Cd group. Neuropeptide gene expression levels in brain were consistent with the observed changes in food intake. In the Cd-exposed groups, the expression levels of neuropeptide Y (NPY), apelin, and metallothionein (MT) increased significantly, while those of pro-opinmelanocortin (POMC), ghrelin, and corticotrophin-releasing factor (CRF) decreased significantly. Our data suggested that in fish, low doses of Cd might increase food intake, as well as weight and length gains, but high doses of Cd might have the opposite effect. These effects might be a result of neurohumoral regulation. Long-term exposure to low doses of Cd might cause weight gain and affect food intake.

Antibiotic micro-pollution is usually found at the ng/L-level in drinking water sources or discharge water of wastewater treatment plants. In this study, a novel approach mediated by manganese oxidizing bacteria (MnOB) in a biofilter was developed to control the pollution. The results indicated that the biogenic manganese oxide (MnOx) produced during the oxidation of the feeding manganese ions could coat the surface of the filtering sand effecting the simultaneous removal of antibiotics. It was found that the removal of antibiotics is insured as long as the feeding manganese was well removed and was not influenced by the hydraulic loading. The growth rate of the MnOB group revealed that the antibiotic concentration at 50 and 100 ng/L promoted their activity, but it was inhibited at 500 and 1000 ng/L. The structure of the bacterial community was stable in the presence of antibiotics (50 ng/L), but their extracellular processes changed. The removal performance of the feeding manganese seemed to relate to the extracellular processes of the dominant bacterial genus. Moreover, the freshly formed MnOx was a buserite-like material that was rich in Mn(III) and Mn(IV) (94.1%), favoring the degradation. The biofilter did not generate additional antibiotic resistant genes in the presence of antibiotics.

Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is highly endemic in China, where approximately 90% of the total human cases in the world are reported. The Hebei province, one of areas with the highest prevalence, has reported HFRS cases every year in the last two decades. This study describes the spatiotemporal patterns of HFRS in the Hebei province from 2001 to 2016, detects the high-risk spatiotemporal clusters of HFRS, and provides valuable information for planning and implementation of local preventive measures. For the purpose of the analysis, HFRS cases recorded during the sixteen years in the Hebei province were aggregated into three temporal periods (2001-2006, 2007-2012, and 2013-2016). Spatiotemporal analyses, including Global spatial autocorrelation analysis and Kulldorff's scan statistical analysis, were applied to analyze te spatiotemporal clusters of HFRS at the county level. The results revealed that the spatial extent of the HFRS epidemic in the Hebei province changed dynamically from 2001 to 2016, which indicated that a comprehensive preventative strategy should be implemented in the northeastern regions of the Hebei province in spring.

Cryptosporidium is the causative agent of cryptosporidiosis. Cryptosporidium not only has a worldwide distribution, but also can infect various hosts, including dairy cattle and humans. Although numerous researches on Cryptosporidium infection in cattle have been conducted, no nationwide study on the prevalence of Cryptosporidium infection in dairy cattle in mainland China was carried out. In this meta-analysis, five databases, including PubMed, ScienceDirect, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chongqing VIP, and Wanfang, were used to search for published papers regarding Cryptosporidium infection in dairy cattle in China from inception to February 25, 2019. Our study obtained 60 eligibility studies that reported Cryptosporidium infection in dairy cattle. We estimated the pooled Cryptosporidium prevalence to be 17.0% (3,901/33,313), with 16.9% (722/5,191) in Central China, 17.4% (959/6,162) in Eastern China, 29.8% (404/2,021) in Northeastern China, 15.7% (227/2,344) in Northern China, 15.8% (1,042/11,452) in Northwestern China, 9.5% (494/5,758) in Southern China, and 13.7% (53/385) in Southwestern China. The pooled prevalence of Cryptosporidium in before 2000 group (28.0%, 944/3,417) was significantly higher than in 2000-2010 group (11.1%, 384/3,643) and after 2010 group (13.7%, 2,134/22,411). Cattle with the age of ≤ 12 months (22.5%, 2,142/12,948) had a significantly higher prevalence than those of > 12 months (9.5%, 840/10,282). The pooled prevalence of Cryptosporidium in different seasons ranged from 8.2% (343/4,552) in Autumn to 19.5% (285/1,570) in Winter. Diarrhea cattle (38%, 133/477) had a higher Cryptosporidium prevalence than non-diarrhea cattle (13.0%, 367/2423). The pooled prevalence of Cryptosporidium in different provinces was various, with the highest (35.6%, 355/1,667) in Heilongjiang province, and the lowest (4.3%, 15/440) in Tianjin province. The univariate meta-regression analyses indicated that the collection year (P = 0.002) and age of cattle (P = 0.001) might be sources of heterogeneity. This systematic review suggests that China is a country where cryptosporidiosis frequently occurs in cattle. Due to the particular relationship between dairy cattle and feeder, further research is required to investigate the links between cattle ownership and Cryptosporidium infection.

The perfect optical vortex (POV), the ring size being independent of its topological charge, has found potential applications in optical tweezers and optical communications. In this Letter, we report a new kind of POV, termed as double-ring POV (DR-POV), whose diameters of the two rings are independent of topological charge. We theoretically demonstrate that such a vortex is the Fourier transform of an azimuthally polarized Bessel beam. Experimental results agree well with theoretical prediction. We further investigate the vortex nature of the DR-POV through an interferometric method, showing that the two rings of the vortex have the same topological charge value (magnitude and sign). The specular properties of the DR-POV may find application in optical tweezers, such as trapping and rotating of low-refractive-index particles in the dark region between the two rings.

BACKGROUND: Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is an emerging zoonotic infectious disease caused by hantaviruses which circulate worldwide. So far, it was still considered as one of serious public health problems in China. The present study aimed to reveal the stabilities and variations of hantavirus infection in Hebei province located in North China through a long-term retrospective observation. METHODS: The epidemiological data of HFRS cases from all 11 cities of Hebei province since 1981 through 2016 were collected and descriptively analyzed. The rodent densities, species compositions and virus-carrying rates of different regions were collected from six separated rodent surveillance points which set up since 2007. The molecular diversity and phylogenetic relationship of hantaviruses circulating among rodents were analyzed based on partial viral glycoprotein gene. RESULTS: HFRS cases have been reported every year in Hebei province, since the first local case was identified in 1981. The epidemic history can be artificially divided into three phases and a total of 55,507 HFRS cases with 374 deaths were reported during 1981-2016. The gender and occupational factors of susceptible population were invarible throughout, however age of that was gradually aging. The annual outbreak peak always present in spring, while the main epidemic region had gradully altered from south to northeast. Surveillance of rodents revealed that residential rodents significantly possessed higher density and virus-carring rate than field rodents. The house rat, Rattus norvegicus, was the dominant rodent species and Seoul virus S3 sub-genotype which is continued but slightly evolving perhaps to be the sole pathogen for local HFRS cases of Hebei province. CONCLUSIONS: This long-term province-wide surveillance and epidemiological analysis has revealed the stabilities and variations of hantavirus infection in North China. In order to improve current prevention and control strategies of HFRS in China, all surveillance should be continuously enhanced and variations should be paid more attentions.

Various optical instruments have been developed for three-dimensional (3D) surface topography, including the white light interference, reflectance confocal microscopes, and digital holographic microscopes, etc. However, the steep local slope of objects may cause the light to be reflected in a way that it will not be captured by the objective lens because of the finite collection angle of the objective. To solve this "shadow problem," we report a method to enlarge the collection angle range of optical sectioning structured illumination microscopy by capturing sectioned images of the objects from multiple angle of views. We develop a multi-view image fusion algorithm to reconstruct a single 3D image. Using this method, we detect previously invisible details whose slopes are beyond the collection angle of the objective. The proposed approach is useful for height map measurement and quantitative analyses in a variety of fields, such as biology, materials science, microelectronics, etc.

Low-refractive-index microparticles, such as hollow microspheres, have shown great significance in some applications, such as biomedical sensing and targeted drug delivery. However, optical trapping and manipulation of low-refractive-index microparticles are challenging, owing to the repelling force exerted by typical optical traps. In this paper, we demonstrated optical trapping and rotating of large-sized low-refractive-index microparticles by using quasi-perfect optical vortex (quasi-POV) beams, which were generated by Fourier transform of high-order quasi-Bessel beams. Numerical simulation was carried out to characterize the focusing property of the quasi-POV beams. The dynamics of low-refractive-index microparticles in the quasi-POV with various topological charges was investigated in detail. To improve the trapping and rotating performances of the vortex, a point trap was introduced at the center of the ring. Experimental results showed that the quasi-POV was preferable for manipulation of large-sized low-refractive-index microparticles, with its control of the particles' rotating velocity dependent only on the topological charge due to the unchanged orbital radius.
