[Morphological study of histiocytosis from Langerhans cells in jaw bones]. / Rezul'taty morfologicheskogo issledovaniia gistiotsitoza iz kletok Langergansa v cheliustnykh kostiakh.

Histiocytosis of the jaws in biopsies from 17 patients aged 19 to 51 years were studied at light and electron microscopy level. Birbek's bodies were found in Langerhans cells in all the biopsies confirming the diagnosis of Langerhans cell histiocytoma. The structure of Birbek's bodies changed depending on the treatment--radiation or chemotherapy.

[The immune status of patients who have undergone reconstructive operations on the jaws using different types of transplants]. / Immunnyi status bol'nykh, perenesshikh rekonstruktivnye operatsii na cheliusti s ispol'zovaniem raznykh tipov transplantatov.

Lymphocyte subpopulations were studied in 18 patients by flow cytometry using monoclonal antibodies before and after surgical repair of the mandible with different transplants. All the transplants used had a stimulating effect on the immunity system. The most marked changes in the time course of immunologic parameters were observed after transplantation of frozen bone and formalin-treated grafts.

[The clinical x-ray aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of the temporomandibular joint pain dysfunction syndrome]. / Kliniko-rentgenologicheskie aspekty diagnostiki i lecheniia sindroma bolevoi disfunktsii visochno-nizhnecheliustnykh sustavov.

Clinical and x-ray picture of the syndrome of painful dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint is described. Differential diagnosis of this syndrome and other articular diseases with similar clinical symptoms is presented. Treatment strategy is described in brief.

[A comparative analysis of the course of odontogenic phlegmons of the face and neck area in patients from Yakutsk and Moscow]. / Sravnitel'nyi analiz techeniia odontogennykh flegmon oblasti litsa i shei u bol'nykh Iakutska i Moskvy.

A total of 126 patients with odontogenic inflammatory diseases were examined, 54 of these in Moscow and 72 in Yakutsk. The clinical and immunological parameters were assessed on days 2 and 6 after similar operations. In residents of Yakutsk the inflammatory process was associated with a more expressed intoxication and coursed 1.5 to 2 days longer than in Muscovites; moreover, the residents of Yakutsk developed higher leukocytosis and a drop of T-lymphocyte level with the predominance of T-helpers. Hence, odontogenic inflammations take mainly a hyperergic course in Yakutsk and a normergic one in Moscow.

[The comparative clinico-immunological characteristics of the course of mandibular fractures in patients in Yakutsk and Moscow]. / Sravnitel'naia kliniko-immunologicheskaia kharakteristika techeniia perelomov nizhnei cheliusti u bol'nykh Iakutska i Moskvy.

Ninety-seven patients with mandibular fractures were examined: 55 in Yakutsk and 42 in Moscow. In the Yakutsk patients the inflammatory process much more frequently progressed to the development of infectious inflammatory complications at the site of fracture than in Moscow. More expressed shifts in the immunogram were observed mainly in the patients who later developed infectious inflammatory complications.

[Epithelial tumors of the minor salivary glands in the lips and cheeks]. / Epitelial'nye opukholi malykh sliunnykh zhelez gub i shchek.

Difficulties in the clinical diagnosis of tumors of minor salivary glands of the lips and cheeks are discussed on the basis of results of examination of 52 patients with such tumors and comparison of the diagnosis of this condition and of identical tumors of the large salivary glands. Discrepancies between the clinical and pathoanatomical diagnosis are analyzed. Clinical characteristics helpful in the diagnosis of the condition are presented.

[Evolution of tissue structures in the mandible after implantation of plate from polymethylmethacrylate and its compositions with hydroxyapatite]. / Evoliutsiia tkanevykh struktur nizhnei cheliusti pri implantatsii plastin iz polimetilmetakrilata i ego kompozitsii s gidroksiapatitom.

Tissue reactions to active modified composite material were studied in experiments on Chinchilla rabbits. In the first series of experiments plates from composite material were implanted: polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) plates were used in group 1, PMMA composition with hydroxyapatite (HAP) in group 2, and PMMA composition with HAP modified by polyacrylic acid in group 3. The content of HAP in each group was 30% by weight. Implantation of plates from pure PMMA induced atrophic processes with formation of connective tissue capsule at the site of implantation. In the second series of experiments the manifestations of inflammatory reactions in the bone and adjacent tissues, caused by HAP release into tissue, were observed, which were paralleled by activation of bone formation, which sometimes acquired the pattern of a hyperproductive reaction. PMMA/HAP composite modified by chemical bond proved to be the most effective: its implantation caused no manifest pathological reactions and inflammatory infiltration; no intraosseous deposition of crystals were detected. Intensive osteogenesis round the implanted plate was observed.

[The use of tactivin in the combined treatment and prevention of complications in reconstructive operations on the bones of the facial skeleton]. / Primenenie taktivina v kompleksnom lechenii i profilaktike oslozhnenii pri rekonstruktivnykh operatsiiakh na kostiakh litsevogo skeleta.

Sixty-three patients with congenital and acquired defects and deformations of facial bones without concomitant diseases were examined. Twenty-eight of them were operated on; auto- and alloplasty was resorted to in 18 patients, and to 10 patients tactivin was administered after common protocols for immunocorrection before or after surgery. Immunologic and clinical studies showed that immunodeficiency states are the most probable causes of postoperative complications following repair surgery on the facial bones. Tactivin normalized the immunity parameters and prevented the development of postoperative complications.
