RESUMEN

Ordered successive interference cancellation (OSIC) detection has been investigated to mitigate the high spatial correlation for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) visible light communication (VLC) systems. However, existing OSIC schemes have to perform reordering and matrix inversion for each detected symbol, which may lead to high complexity when a large number of symbols are transmitted. In this work, a joint design of ordered QR decomposition precoding and SIC detection (OQR-SIC) is proposed for MIMO VLC systems. This work jointly investigates OQR precoding and SIC detection to reduce the detection complexity while alleviating spatial correlation issue for MIMO VLC systems. In OQR-SIC, with the upper triangular matrix obtained by QR decomposition, the SIC detector can detect the symbol sequentially without reordering and matrix inversion calculations. To improve the system data rate, we further optimize the ordering of the columns of the channel matrix before QR decomposition and the power allocation of transmitted signals under the constraints of dimming control, total electrical power and reliable SIC detection. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed OQR-SIC achieves 2 dB and 9.8 dB signal-to-noise ratio gains compared to conventional QR-SIC in 4 × 4 and 9 × 9 MIMO VLC systems, respectively, when the bit error rate is 10-3.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is a common malignant bone tumor that occurs in adolescents or children under the age of 20, which is extremely difficult to cure and has a high recurrence rate. Recent studies showed that cell division cycle 20 (CDC20) overexpression is associated with poor prognosis in patients with osteosarcoma. However, the function of CDC20 in osteosarcoma has not been investigated clearly. In this study, we aim to explore the role of CDC20 in two independent human OS cell lines' biological phenotype and chemotherapy sensitivity. We applied multiple approaches to measure cell growth, cell cycle, and apoptosis with or without deregulation or overexpression of CDC20. We found that the downregulation of CDC20 by siRNA or apcin suppressed cell proliferation, induced apoptosis, and triggered cell cycle arrest. Consistently, overexpression of CDC20 in normal cells promoted cell growth, inhibited apoptosis. What's more, the additional treatment with siCDC20 or Apcin achieved better anticancer effects than that of cisplatin alone. Furthermore, Bim and p21 were upregulated in OS cells following Apcin treatment. Altogether, the results of the present study demonstrated that targeting CDC20 could be useful for the treatment of OS, and might be a promising solution for the treatment of the OS with cisplatin insensitivity.

In this paper, a received signal strength assisted perspective-three-point positioning algorithm (R-P3P) is proposed for visible light positioning (VLP) systems. Due to the directional propagation of visible light, the orientations of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and receivers can affect the positioning accuracy seriously. To circumvent this challenge, R-P3P is proposed to mitigate the limitation on LEDs' and receiver's orientation in VLP systems. The basic idea of R-P3P is to jointly utilize visual and strength information to estimate the receiver position using 3 LEDs regardless of the orientations of LEDs and receivers. Simulation results show that R-P3P can achieve positioning accuracy within 10 cm over 70% of an indoor area with low complexity.

This paper proposes a novel power-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) placement algorithm for indoor visible light communication (VLC). In the considered model, the LEDs can be designedly placed for high power efficiency while satisfying the indoor communication and illumination requirements. This design problem is formulated as a power minimization problem under both communication and illumination level constraints. Due to the interactions among LEDs and the illumination uniformity constraint, the formulated problem is complex and non-convex. To solve the problem, we first transform the complex uniformity constraint into a series of linear constraints. Then an iterative algorithm is proposed to decouple the interactions among LEDs and transforms the original problem into a series of convex sub-problems. Then, we use Lagrange dual method to solve the sub-problem and obtain a convergent solution of the original problem. Simulation results show that the proposed LED placement algorithm can harvest 14% power consumption gain when compared with the baseline scheme with centrally placed LEDs.

To satisfy the explosive growth of computation-intensive vehicular applications, we investigated the computation offloading problem in a cognitive vehicular networks (CVN). Specifically, in our scheme, the vehicular cloud computing (VCC)- and remote cloud computing (RCC)-enabled computation offloading were jointly considered. So far, extensive research has been conducted on RCC-based computation offloading, while the studies on VCC-based computation offloading are relatively rare. In fact, due to the dynamic and uncertainty of on-board resource, the VCC-based computation offloading is more challenging then the RCC one, especially under the vehicular scenario with expensive inter-vehicle communication or poor communication environment. To solve this problem, we propose to leverage the VCC's computation resource for computation offloading with a perception-exploitation way, which mainly comprise resource discovery and computation offloading two stages. In resource discovery stage, upon the action-observation history, a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model is proposed to predict the on-board resource utilizing status at next time slot. Thereafter, based on the obtained computation resource distribution, a decentralized multi-agent Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) algorithm is proposed to solve the collaborative computation offloading with VCC and RCC. Last but not least, the proposed algorithms' effectiveness is verified with a host of numerical simulation results from different perspectives.

Tracking detailed hand motion is a fundamental research topic in the area of human-computer interaction (HCI) and has been widely studied for decades. Existing solutions with single-model inputs either require tedious calibration, are expensive or lack sufficient robustness and accuracy due to occlusions. In this study, we present a real-time system to reconstruct the exact hand motion by iteratively fitting a triangular mesh model to the absolute measurement of hand from a depth camera under the robust restriction of a simple data glove. We redefine and simplify the function of the data glove to lighten its limitations, i.e., tedious calibration, cumbersome equipment, and hampering movement and keep our system lightweight. For accurate hand tracking, we introduce a new set of degrees of freedom (DoFs), a shape adjustment term for personalizing the triangular mesh model, and an adaptive collision term to prevent self-intersection. For efficiency, we extract a strong pose-space prior to the data glove to narrow the pose searching space. We also present a simplified approach for computing tracking correspondences without the loss of accuracy to reduce computation cost. Quantitative experiments show the comparable or increased accuracy of our system over the state-of-the-art with about 40% improvement in robustness. Besides, our system runs independent of Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) and reaches 40 frames per second (FPS) at about 25% Central Processing Unit (CPU) usage.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between Hector Battifora mesothelial-1 (HBME-1) expression and the clinical pathological characteristics and prognosis of osteosarcoma (OS). MATERIAL AND METHODS HBME-1 expression was assessed using immunohistochemistry in OS tissues (n=152), osteochondroma tissues (n=91), and normal bone tissues (n=74). We carried out a follow-up lasting 8-60 months to investigate HBME-1 expression and its correlations with the clinical pathological characteristics and prognosis of OS. RESULTS HBME-1 was highly expressed in OS tissues compared with osteochondroma tissues and normal bone tissues, and was highly expressed in osteochondroma tissues compared with normal bone tissues (all P<0.05). HBME-1 expression was correlated with clinical stages, postoperative recurrence, metastasis, and 5-year survival (all P<0.05). The area under the receiver operating characteristics curve of HBME-1 expression was 0.864, with sensitivity of 80.92%, specificity of 91.89%, and accuracy of 84.51%. The survival rate was lower in the HBME-1 positive expression group than the HBME-1 negative expression group (P<0.05). Clinical stages, metastasis, and HBME-1 expression were independent risk factors for the survival of patients with OS (all P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS HBME-1 expression was correlated with the occurrence and development of OS. HBME-1 positive expression was a risk factor for the prognosis of OS.

Bronchial asthma (BA) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of airways for which the effective therapies include inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) and short-acting ß2-adrenoreceptor agonist (SABA). Serum eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) has been reported to reflect the degree of airway inflammation. We, therefore, explored the implication of serum ECP in assessing the efficacy of ICS therapy in BA children. Our prospective randomized control study enrolled 126 BA children and 78 healthy children (the control group). The BA patients were randomly assigned as two groups; 59 children were treated with ICS, twice a day, for three months and 67 patients received SABA inhalation only if necessary. After the 3-month therapy, the serum levels of ECP, endothelin-1, and nitric oxide and the eosinophil percentage (EOS%) in induced sputum were significantly lower in the ICS group, compared with the SABA group, but were still higher than the control group (all P < 0.05). The forced expiratory volume (FEV1%pred) and forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC) were improved to the levels of the control group after therapy. Pearson correlation analysis presented that higher serum ECP levels were associated with higher EOS% in serum and with lower pulmonary function indices (FEVl%pred and FEV1/FVC). Importantly, the ICS group exhibited higher quality of life scores and lower symptom scores compared with the SABA group (all P < 0.05). ROC results revealed the diagnostic efficiency of serum ECP levels on the efficacy of ICS. In conclusion, measuring serum ECP levels is helpful for assessing the efficacy of ICS therapy in BA children.

A new dimming control scheme termed spatial dimming orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (SD-OFDM) is proposed for multiple-input and multiple output OFDM based visible light communication. The basic idea of SD-OFDM is that the illumination can be represented by the number of glared light emitting diodes (LEDs) in an LED lamp. As the biasing level of LEDs does not adjust to represent the required illumination level, the proposed scheme can significantly mitigate the clipping noise compared to analogue dimming schemes. Furthermore, unlike digital dimming schemes that control illumination levels by setting different duty cycles of pulse width modulation, the proposed scheme is always in the "on-state" for varied illumination levels. Both analytical and simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme is an efficient and feasible dimmable scheme.

Constructing three-dimensional (3D) current collectors is an effective strategy to solve the hindrance of the development of lithium metal anodes (LMAs). However, the excessive mass of the metallic scaffold structure leads to a decrease in energy density. Herein, lithiophilic graphene aerogels comprising reduced graphene oxide aerogels and silver nanowires (rGO-AgNW) are synthesized through chemical reduction and freeze-drying techniques. The rGO aerogels with large specific surface areas effectively mitigate local current density and delay the formation of lithium dendrites, and the lithiophilic silver nanowires can provide sites for the uniform deposition of lithium. The rGO-AgNW/Li symmetric cell presents a stable cycle of about 2000 h at 1 mA cm-2. When coupled with the LiFePO4 cathode, the assembled full cells exhibit outstanding cycle stability and rate performance. Lightweight rGO-AgNW aerogels, as the host for lithium metal, can significantly improve the energy density of lithium metal anodes.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of erythrocytapheresis (ECP) in the treatment of polycythemia. METHODS: Patients diagnosed with polycythemia were included in this retrospective analysis and treated with ECP (n=20) or conventional treatments (exsanguination; n=20). Blood laboratory values and adverse effects were recorded. RESULTS: In ECP-treated patients mean red blood cell (RBC) collection time was 25.7±4.5min (range: 19-37min), with a mean collection volume of 773.5±129.3mL (range: 600-1002mL). From baseline, ECP reduced the mean number of RBCs (0.6×10(12)/L [7.6%]), mean hemoglobin (31.1g/L [14.8%]), and mean hematocrit (13.1% [20.2%]) (P<0.001 for each). After ECP, a marked reduction in symptoms associated with polycythemia was also observed. CONCLUSIONS: Treatment of patients with polycythemia using ECP reduces RBC count, hemoglobin, and hematocrit. The advantages associated with ECP over conventional therapy should be considered when choosing a treatment plan for patients with polycythemia.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the impact of natural killer (NK) cells in the graft on the outcome following haploidentical peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (haplo-PBSCT). METHODS: We retrospectively collected data from patients who had undergone haplo-PBSCT at our centre from January 2019 to November 2021. The percentage of NK cells in stem cell grafts was detected by flow cytometry. Based on the median (range) count of NK cells (1.8 [0.4-6.0] × 108/kg), patients were separated into high and low NK cell count groups. RESULTS: Data from 96 patients were analysed. Patients were evenly distributed (48 in each group) into high and low NK cell count groups. There was no significant difference in neutrophil and platelet recovery between the two groups. However, the rates of febrile neutropenia, bacterial infection, and invasive fungal disease (IFD) were significantly reduced in the high compared with the low NK cell count group. There was no significant difference in rates of cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infections between groups. There was no significant difference between groups in grades II and above acute graft versus host disease (GVHD), progression-free survival (PFS), or overall survival (OS). CONCLUSION: A high number of NK cells in the graft may reduce febrile neutropenia, IFD and bacterial infection following haplo-PBSCT but it has no significant effect on aGVHD, PFS, or OS.

A high-performance biochar derived from the residue of Chaga mushroom (Inonotus obliquus) was reported in this study. Inonotus obliquus residues were used to prepare biochar, and the optimal synthesis conditions were obtained by response surface methodology. The specific surface area, pore volume, and average pore size of the optimal biochar (Zn-IORBC) was 1676.78 m2/g, 1.87 cm3/g, and 3.88 nm, respectively. Methylene blue (MB) and tetracycline (TC) were selected to estimate the adsorption performance of Zn-IORBC. The adsorption process was suitable for the pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir model. Zn-IORBC could maintained a large amount of TC adsorption (the lowest value was 686.20 mg/g in mountain spring water) in different natural water. The maximum adsorption capacity of TC and MB was 947.42 and 1033.66 mg/g. The adsorption mechanism was contributed to the electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonding, π-π interactions, and pore-filling. Zn-IORBC is an effective adsorbent for high-performance pollutants removal.

Introduction: Autophagy plays pivotal role in various tumors, including colorectal cancer (CRC). Microsatellite instability (MSI) and KRAS mutations are also involved in response to the adjuvant therapy of CRC. We aimed to investigate the relationships among autophagy, KRAS mutations, MSI, clinicopathological parameters, and prognosis in CRC patients. Methods and Results: We tested 200 CRC tumors for autophagy-related protein expression (Beclin 1 and LC3), MSI status, and KRAS mutations. Results: Expression of Beclin 1 and LC3 was higher in CRC, with Beclin 1 significantly correlating with the depth of invasion, whereas LC3 was not associated with clinicopathological parameters. Patients expressing the LC3 proteins experienced a shorter overall survival (OS) after surgery with adjuvant therapy, especially in the MSS/L-CRC subgroup and the mutated KRAS subgroup. MSS/L-CRC patients with KRAS mutations positively expressed the LC3 protein and suffered a shorter OS than LC3 non-expressing patients. In CRC patients who received either capecitabine or capecitabine combined with oxaliplatin post-surgery, the positive expression of LC3 correlated with worse OS compared to patients who did not express LC3. Sequencing showed BRCA1/2 as the most variant genes in all patients. Nevertheless, deleterious variations were more frequent in patients with MSI-H CRC. Conclusions: High LC3 protein expression shows a certain prognostic value in CRC patients. LC3, the MSI status, and KRAS mutations must be considered when selecting an adjuvant therapy for CRC. The detection of these indexes is of great significance to identify high-risk patients who would benefit from autophagy-related anticancer drugs or help to explore more effective treatment options for patients who are resistant to conventional chemotherapy or relapse.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the risk factors affecting hemorrhagic cystitis(HC) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(allo-HSCT). METHODS: The clinical data of 153 patients underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University from January 2010 to December 2018 were selected and retrospectively analyzed. The incidence, median time and treatment outcome of HC should be observed. Multivariate analysis was used to observe the risk factors of HC in patients, including sex, age, diagnosis, disease status before transplantation, transplantation type, ATG and CTX in the pretreatment scheme, stem cell source, neutrophil and platelet implantation time; CMV, EBV and BKV infection, and acute graft-versus-host disease(aGVHD). RESULTS: Among 153 patients underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, 25 (16.34%) patients had HC, the median occurance time was 31 days, all patients achieved complete remission after treatment, no bladder irritation and bladder contracture were left. The results of univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that the type of transplantation, ATG, CMV viremia before treatment, aGVHD (r=1.036, 3.234, 3.298 and 2.817, respectively) were the independent risk factors of HC. CONCLUSION: The urinary BKV detections in the patients with HC are positive, mainly occured during the period from day +13 to days +56. HLA haplotype, pretreatment including ATG, and CMV viremia, and aGVHD are the independent risk factors for HC after allo-HSCT.

T cells in grafts serve an important role in the pathogenesis of graft versus host disease (GVHD) and immune recovery during HLA matched allogeneic stem cell transplantation. However, the role of T cells in the haploidentical peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (Haplo-PBSCT) is yet to be determined. In the present study, the role of CD3+ T cells in grafts and impact on hematopoietic and immune recovery, cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation, GVHD, relapse, progress free survival and overall survival (OS) were evaluated and analyzed. A total of 30 patients who underwent haplo-PBSCT were included in the present study. CD3+ T cells accounted for a median of 23.1% (range 8-47.4%) with a median dose of 299.7x106/kg (range 104-623.4). Patients were divided into two groups according to the CD3+ T cell count: Above the median (high T cell group) and below the median CD3+ T cell (low T cell group). No significant difference was identified between neutrophil and platelet recovery time between two groups (P>0.05). The mean lymphocyte recovery time of high T cell group and low T cell group were 107.07 days (95% CI 79.88-134.25), and 50.4 days (95% CI 41.42-59.38), respectively. The lymphocyte recovery time of high T cell group was higher that of low T cell group (P<0.05). No significant difference between CMV reactivation, chronic GVHD and primary disease relapse rates was observed between two groups (P>0.05). The cumulative incidence of grade II or above acute GVHD was higher in the high T groups compared with low T groups (P<0.05). The overall survival and progress free survival rates were higher in the low T cell group compared with the high T cell group (P<0.05). In conclusion, high levels of CD3+ T cells in the grafts were associated with delayed lymphocyte recovery and an increased risk of acute GVHD and decreased overall survival.

BACKGROUND: This study aims to compare placebo (PBO) and 7 therapeutic regimens-namely, bronchodilator agents (BAs), hypertonic saline (HS), BA ± HS, corticosteroids (CS), epinephrine (EP), EP ± CS, and EP ± HS-to determine the optimal bronchiolitis treatment. METHODS: We plotted networks using the curative outcome of several studies and specified the relations among the experiments by using mean difference, standardized mean difference, and corresponding 95% credible interval. The surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) was used to separately rank each therapy on clinical severity score (CSS) and length of hospital stay (LHS). RESULTS: This network meta-analysis included 40 articles from 1995 to 2016 concerning the treatment of bronchiolitis in children. All 7 therapeutic regimens displayed no significant difference to PBO with regard to CSS in our study. Among the 7 therapies, BA performed better than CS. As for LHS, EP and EP ± HS had an advantage over PBO. Moreover, EP and EP ± HS were also more efficient than BA. The SUCRA results showed that EP ± CS is most effective, and EP ± HS is second most effective with regard to CSS. With regard to LHS, EP ± HS ranked first, EP ± CS ranked second, and EP ranked third. CONCLUSIONS: We recommend EP ± CS and EP ± HS as the first choice for bronchiolitis treatment in children because of their outstanding performance with regard to CSS and LHS.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: To investigate the safety and efficacy of the combination regimen vincristine, cyclophosphamide, melphalan or mitoxantrone and prednisone (VCMP) plus thalidomide as first-line induction therapy for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM). METHODS: Three hundred and ninety-six symptomatic, newly diagnosed MM patients were treated with VCMP plus thalidomide in our hospital for the past 11 years, and clinical data of these patients were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: Of the 396 patients enrolled, the total response rate was 77.3%. Forty-three patients relapsed after sCR and CR. Mean cycles to first response were six cycles (range 1-16 cycles). A total of 53% of patients achieved at least a PR within the first cycle of therapy. The actuarial 1-year, 3-year and 5-year overall survival of all patients were 89.4%, 29.5% and 10.6%, respectively. The probabilities of 1-year, 3-year and 5-year progression-free survival of all patients were 84.0%, 23.1% and 8.4%, respectively. The major adverse events were gastrointestinal symptoms, electrolytes and glucose metabolism disorders, hypertension, infection, peripheral nerve disease and hematological adverse events, which were mostly below grade 3 and could be alleviated by symptomatic treatment. CONCLUSION: We concluded that VCMP plus thalidomide is an effective regimen with manageable side effects in the treatment of symptomatic, newly diagnosed MM including elderly patients and patients with renal failure.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To study the expression of DNMT3b gene in myeloma RPMI8226 cells and its biological significance. METHODS: The activity of DNA methyltransferase was detected by ELISA, and the expression of DNMT3b in RPMI8226 cells was analyzed by semi-quantitative RT-PCR and real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR. The proliferation and expression of DNMT3b gene in RPMI8226 cells intervened with capecitabine for 24 hours were detected. RESULTS: The activity of DNMT and expression of DNMT3b in RPMI 8226 cells increased. The proliferation of RPMI8226 cells was inhibited, and the apoptosis occurred in RPMI 8226 cells intervened with capecitabine for 24 hours. The expression level of DNMT3b gene was decreased after being intervened with capecitabine for 24 hours. CONCLUSION: The expression level of DNMT3b in myeloma RPMI 8226 cells increase, and capecitabine can inhibit the proliferation of RPMI 8226 and induce apoptosis by inhibiting the expression of DNMT3b gene. Therefore, DNMT3b is expected to be a new target for myeloma therapy.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the risk factors and therapeutic outcome of acute graft versus host disease (aGVHD) in patients with acute leukemia after haploidentical peripheral hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. METHODS: The clinical data of 19 cases of acute leukemia underwent haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplanttion during January 2010 and December 2010 were retrospectively analyzed. The effects of patients sex, donor-recipient sex difference, donor age, conditioning regimen, dosage of anti-thymocyte globulin(ATG), mononuclear cell and CD34+ cell counts on the intestinal aGVHD were analyzed by Logistic regression. RESULTS: Intestinal aGVHD occurred in 5 cases with 1 case at stage II 3 cases at stage III and 1 case at stage IV on the 7th, 22th, 27th, 70th and 154th day after transplantation, respectively. Single factor analysis showed that the patient's sex, donor-recipient sex difference, donor age, dosage of ATG, mononuclear cell and CD34+ cell counts were not related with the occurrence of the intestinal aGVHD, and the conditoning regimen was the risk factor for the intestinal aGVHD. 2 cases among 5 cases with intestinal aGVHD were treated with methylprednisolone at dosage of 1 mg/kg per day, 1 case was treated with methylprednisolone therapy combined with tacrolimus. 2 cases of methylprednisolone-resistance were treated with CD25 monoclonal antibody. Intestinal aGVHD of all patients was improved after the above-mentioned treatment. CONCLUSION: Conditioning regimen of haploidentical peipheral hematopoieitc stem cell transplantaion has effects on the intestinal aGVHD, which needs to be confirmed by further research.
