RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate whether flow fluid shear stress (FFSS)-mediated signal transduction affects the function of Piezo1 ion channel in chondrocyte and to further explore the role of mechanical overloading in development of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ OA). METHODS: Immunohistochemical staining was used to determine the expression of Piezo1 in TMJ OA tissue collected from rat unilateral anterior crossbite (UAC) models. Chondrocytes harvested from normal adult SD rats were treated with FFSS (0, 4, 8, 12 dyn/cm2) in vitro. Immunofluorescent staining, real-time polymerase chain reaction, western blotting, flow cytometry and phalloidin assay were performed to detect the changes of cellular morphology as well as the expression of Piezo1 and certain pro-inflammatory and degradative factors in chondrocyte. RESULTS: Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that significantly increased Piezo1 expression was associated with UAC stimulation (p < .05). As applied FFSS escalated (4, 8 and 12 dyn/cm2), the expression levels of Piezo1, ADAMTS-5, MMP-13 and Col-X gradually increased, compared with the non-FFSS group (p < .05). Administering Piezo1 ion channel inhibitor to chondrocytes beforehand, it was observed that expression of ADAMTS-5, MMP-13 and Col-X was substantially decreased following FFSS treatment (p < .05) and the effect of cytoskeletal thinning was counteracted. The activated Piezo1 ion channel enhanced intracellular Ca2+ excess in chondrocytes during abnormal mechanical stimulation and the increased intracellular Ca2+ thinned the cytoskeleton of F-actin. CONCLUSIONS: Mechanical overloading activates Piezo1 ion channel to promote pro-inflammation and degradation and to increase Ca2+ concentration in chondrocyte, which may eventually result in TMJ OA.

RESUMEN

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is the most common metabolic disease of the liver, characterized by hepatic steatosis in more than 5% of hepatocytes. However, despite the recent approval of the first drug, resmetirom, for the management of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, decades of target exploration and hundreds of clinical trials have failed, highlighting the urgent need to find new druggable targets for the discovery of innovative drug candidates against MASLD. Here, we found that glutathione S-transferase alpha 1 (GSTA1) expression was negatively associated with lipid droplet accumulation in vitro and in vivo. Overexpression of GSTA1 significantly attenuated oleic acid-induced steatosis in hepatocytes or high-fat diet-induced steatosis in the mouse liver. The hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory drug bicyclol also attenuated steatosis by upregulating GSTA1 expression. A detailed mechanism showed that GSTA1 directly interacts with fatty acid binding protein 1 (FABP1) and facilitates the degradation of FABP1, thereby inhibiting intracellular triglyceride synthesis by impeding the uptake and transportation of free fatty acids. Conclusion: GSTA1 may be a good target for the discovery of innovative drug candidates as GSTA1 stabilizers or enhancers against MASLD.

RESUMEN

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, non-motile and rod-shaped strain, designated LJY008T, was isolated from the intestinal of Eriocheir sinensis in Pukou base of Jiangsu Institute of Freshwater Fisheries. Strain LJY008T could grow at 4-37 â„ƒ (optimum, 30 â„ƒ), pH 6.0-8.0 (optimum, pH 7.0), and with 1.0-6.0% NaCl (w/v; optimum, 1.0%). Strain LJY008T shared highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with Jinshanibacter zhutongyuii CF-458T (99.3%), followed by J. allomyrinae BWR-B9T (99.2%), Insectihabitans xujianqingii CF-1111T (97.3%), and Limnobaculum parvum HYN0051T (96.7%). The major polar lipids include phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, and diphosphatidylglycerol. The only respiratory quinone was Q8, and the main fatty acids (> 10%) were C16:0, summed feature 3 (C16:1ω7c/C16:1ω6c), summed feature 8 (C18:1ω7c), and C14:0. The genome-based phylogenies showed that strain LJY008T was closely associated with members of the genus Jinshanibacter, Insectihabitans, and Limnobaculum. The average nucleotide identities and average amino acid identities (AAI) among strain LJY008T and closely related neighbours were all below 95%, and the digital DNA-DNA hybridization values among them were all below 36%. The genomic DNA G + C content of strain LJY008T was 46.1%. Based on the phenotypic, phylogenetic, biochemical and chemotaxonomic analysis, strain LJY008T represents a novel species of the genus Limnobaculum, for which the name Limnobaculum eriocheiris sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is LJY008T (= JCM 34675T = GDMCC 1.2436T = MCCC 1K06016T). In addition, the genera Jinshanibacter and Insectihabitans were reclassified as Limnobaculum, because there was no significant genome-scale divergence or diagnosable difference on phenotypic and chemotaxonomic traits, such as strains of Jinshanibacter and Insectihabitans sharing AAI values of 93.88-94.96%.

RESUMEN

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are an important part of adaptation to biotic and abiotic stresses and regulate seed germination through positive or negative signaling. Seed adaptation to abiotic stress may be mediated by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The effects of the ROS scavenger N,N'-dimethylthiourea (DMTU) on maize seed germination through endogenous H2O2 regulation is unclear. In this study, we investigated the effects of different doses of DMTU on seed endogenous H2O2 and radicle development parameters using two maize varieties (ZD958 and DMY1). The inhibitory effect of DMTU on the germination rate and radicle growth was dose-dependent. The inhibitory effect of DMTU on radicle growth ceased after transferring maize seeds from DMTU to a water medium. Histochemical analyses showed that DMTU eliminated stable H2O2 accumulation in the radicle sheaths and radicles. The activity of antioxidant enzyme and the expression of antioxidant enzyme-related genes (ZmAPX2 and ZmCAT2) were reduced in maize seeds cultured with DMTU compared with normal culture conditions (0 mmol·dm-3 DMTU). We suggest the use of 200 mmol·dm-3 DMTU as an H2O2 scavenger to study the ROS equilibrium mechanisms during the germination of maize seeds, assisting in the future with the efficient development of plant growth regulators to enhance the seed germination performance of test maize varieties under abiotic stress.

RESUMEN

A Gram-stain-negative, non-motile and aerobic bacterium, designated HHU G3-2T, was isolated from surface water of the Yellow Sea, PR China. Strain HHU G3-2T was positive for oxidase activity and negative for catalase. Optimal growth occurred at 28 °C (range, 20-37 °C), pH 7.0 (range, pH 6.0-9.0) and in the presence of 2-5 % (w/v) NaCl (range, 1-7%). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and 120 ubiquitous single-copy protein-coding genes indicated that strain HHU G3-2T formed a distinct phylogenetic lineage with Aestuariicella hydrocarbonica JCM 30134T, sharing a 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 98.05%. Average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain HHU G3-2T and A. hydrocarbonica JCM 30134T were 75.74 and 17.80%, respectively, which were below the threshold values of 95-96 and 70 %, respectively. The DNA G+C content of the genomic DNA was 51.17 mol%. The major fatty acids (>10 %) were C17 : 1 ω8c (19.8 %), summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c/C16 : 1 ω6c; 15.9 %), summed feature 8 (C18 : 1 ω7c/C18 : 1 ω6c; 13.8 %) and C17 : 0 (10.3 %). The predominant isoprenoid quinone was ubiquinone-8. The polar lipid profile consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol. Based on the polyphasic taxonomic data, strain HHU G3-2T represents a novel species of the genus Aestuariicella, for which the name Aestuariicella albida sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is HHU G3-2T (=MCCC 1K04224T=JCM 34652T=GDMCC 1.2418T=CGMCC 1.17397T). In addition, we proposed the genus Aestuariicella as a member of the family Cellvibrionaceae.

RESUMEN

RATIONALE: Cucumber, as a popular fruit and vegetable, has tremendously contributed to providing a sufficient and high-quality food supply. However, the cucumber plant metabolites, which may possess potential benefits for human health, were rarely reported. In addition, rapid detection of these metabolites from the complex biological matrix of cucumber samples is a tremendous challenge. METHODS: A rapid detection method was established to systematically screen cucurbitacins and cucurbitacin glycosides in cucumber plants by combining high-performance liquid chromatography/quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (HPLC-Q-TOF-MS) with in-source fragmentation (ISF). Moreover, the alkali cations, including acetic acid, 0.1% LiCl, 0.1% NH4 Cl, 0.1% NaCl, and 0.1% KCl, were added to the mobile phase for improving the ion response. RESULTS: The fragmentation pathways of seven cucurbitacins and cucurbitacin glycosides were primarily investigated. The characteristic ISF ions at m/z 501.3211 and 503.3367 were identified and employed to screen 40 cucurbitacins and cucurbitacin glycosides from the complex biological matrix. Their structures were identified by their tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) spectra and fragmentation pathways of references. Finally, the metabolic distribution and network of cucurbitacins and cucurbitacin glycosides in cucumber plants were also proposed. CONCLUSIONS: This work marks the first systematic and comprehensive study of the metabolites in cucumber plants using HPLC-Q-TOF-MS technology, providing a template for screening and identifying the triterpenoids from other plant-derived medicines or food.

RESUMEN

Thirty-two undescribed coumarin-monoterpenes, including the first report of six pairs of enantiomeric and twenty congeners, were isolated from the petroleum ether extract of the stems of Gerbera anandria (Linn.) Sch.-Bip. Structurally, these compounds represented C3-substituted 5-methyl-4-hydroxycoumarin-monoterpenes. Among them, 1-7 and 10-24 were rare 5-methylcoumarin-monoterpenes formed through a furan ring. Their chemical structures and absolute configurations were determined by comprehensive analysis of spectroscopic data, including HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data, Mosher's method, ECD calculations and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Furthermore, biological studies revealed that compounds 1-3, 3a, 5, 5a, 11-12, 21-22 and 26 had the neuroprotective effects on scopolamine-induced injury in PC12 cells. Notably, 3 exhibited the strongest neuroprotective activity with the cell viability values of 77.24%. Meanwhile, pretreatment with 3 significantly downregulate apoptosis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, as well as strengthen antioxidant enzyme activities (MDA and SOD). Moreover, pretreatment with 3 also could attenuate the down-regulation of HO-1 and Nrf2 induced by scopolamine. In conclusion, these results demonstrated that these compounds possessed the protective effects on scopolamine-injured PC12 cells through anti-apoptotic and anti-oxidant activities.

RESUMEN

The alleviation of neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy (NICT) and neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NCRT) was compared for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), and the correlation between the expression and changes of PD-L1 and the efficacy of NICT was evaluated in this study. Fourteen patients with ESCC who received preoperative NICT were included in group A, and fourteen patients with ESCC who received preoperative NCRT were included in group B. Next, group A was divided into CR (complete response), PR (partial response), and NR (no response) according to the degree of pathological response. Also, the expression and changes of PD-L1 (CPS, TPS, IPS) before and after treatment were compared between the groups. We observed that after the treatment, the expression of PD-L1 in both groups was higher than before treatment. In group B, the expression of PD-L1 was elevated in 92.8% of patients, which was higher than that in group A, which had significantly increased IPS (p<0.05). In group A, 9 (64.2%) patients with CPS <10 achieved partial or complete response. There was no significant difference in pathological response and reduction of tumor thickness between the two groups or significant differences in CPS and TPS among CR, PR, and NR groups before treatment. The IPS was the highest in the CR group; however, the difference was not statistically significant. The differences in IPS change were significant among the three groups (p<0.05). In conclusion, NICT and NCRT could upregulate the expression of PD-L1. NCRT more significantly upregulated the expression of PD-L1, mainly of PD-L1 in immune cells in the tumor microenvironment. NICT was not less effective than NCRT in pathological response and tumor thickness changes. The preoperative CPS and TPS scores of PD-L1 did not effectively predict the degree of pathological response, but the high IPS and high IPS downregulation could be related to the degree of pathological response. Some patients with low preoperative expression of PD-L1 could still achieve a good response by NICT. As NCRT can upregulate the expression of PD-L1, the low preoperative expression of PD-L1 is no contraindication for immunotherapy, which provides a new basis and prognostic indexes for chemoradiotherapy combined with immunotherapy.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study is to explore whether social relationships of family and school contexts mediate the influence of socioeconomic status (SES) on Chinese adolescents' mental health. METHODS: A school-based study was conducted among a sample aged 13-18 in East China (n = 6902). We used scales for measuring social relationships and self-rated mental health. Family SES was computed from subjective socioeconomic status, education and occupation of parents. The mediation model was tested by using Path Analysis in IBM SPSS-Amos. RESULTS: The results showed that SES can significantly influence adolescent mental health through parent-child relationship, student-teacher relationship and student-student relationship. The total effect, direct effect and total indirect effect were -0.209 (95% CI = -0.299, -0.136), -0.090 (95% CI = -0.174, -0.007), -0.119 (95% CI = -0.187, -0.078) for boys, and -0.337 (95% CI = -0.478, -0.230), -0.132 (95% CI = -0.283, 0.010), -0.205 (95% CI = -0.351, -0.085) for girls. CONCLUSION: The link between SES and adolescent mental health can be explained by social relationships. Focusing on the parent-child, student-student and student-teacher relationship interventions may contribute to improving the mental health of Chinese adolescents, especially in low socioeconomic groups, as well as female students.

RESUMEN

There is limited evidence on the association between different dimensions of socioeconomic status and mental health on adolescents in developing nations. The aim of this study was to examine this association among adolescents in East China. A school-based study that recruited 6902 adolescents aged 13 to 18 years was conducted in Suzhou, Hefei and Hangzhou. Multiple of indicators of socioeconomic status and mental health in adolescents were examined. Results revealed that girls showed significantly higher score of the global severity index, obsessive-compulsive, depression, anxiety, hostility, and phobic anxiety symptoms than boys. As expected, there was a slightly negative correlation between different dimensions of socioeconomic status to different domains of mental health problems (r ranged from -0.044 to 0.124). Furthermore, we found that maternal education and occupation were significantly associated with mental health for both boys and girls, while subjective socioeconomic status only was significantly associated with girls. In conclusion, adolescents in families with socioeconomic disadvantage, in the form of lower educational level and occupational prestige of mothers, had greater risk of mental health problem. Meanwhile, higher subjective socioeconomic status positively affects the mental health of female adolescents.

RESUMEN

Morus alba L. is used in traditional Chinese medicine for its anti-diabetic activity; however, the part of the hypoglycemic activity and related active metabolites are still not fully clarified. In this study, the metabolites in the M. alba roots, leaves, twigs, and fruits extracts (70% ethanol extracts) were systematically identified, and their hypoglycemic activity was evaluated by the high-fat diet/streptozotocin-induced 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) mouse model. A total of 60 high-level compounds, including 16 polyphenols, 43 flavonoids, and one quinic acid, were identified by high-performance liquid chromatography/quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (HPLC-Q-TOF-MS) combined with the fragmentation pathways of standards and the self-established database. Among them, 23 metabolites were reported for the first time from this plant. In contrast to the extracts of M. alba leaves and fruits, the extracts of roots and twigs displayed significant hypoglycemic activity The glycemia was significantly reduced from 32.08 ± 1.27 to 20.88 ± 1.82 mmol/L and from 33.32 ± 1.98 to 24.74 ± 1.02 mmol/L, respectively, after 4 weeks of treatment with roots and twigs extracts. Compound 46 (morusin), which is a high-level component identified from the extracts of M. alba roots, also displayed significant activity in decreasing the blood glucose level of T2D mice reduced from 31.45 ± 1.23 to 23.45 ± 2.13 mmol/L. In addition, the extracts of roots and twigs displayed significant activity in reducing postprandial glycemia. This work marks the first comparison of the metabolites and hypoglycemic activity of M. alba roots, leaves, twigs, and fruits extracts, and provides a foundation for further development of M. alba extracts as anti-diabetic drugs.

RESUMEN

CONTEXT: Danggui Niantong Granules (DGNTG) are a valid and reliable traditional herbal formula, commonly used in clinical practice to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, the mechanism of its effect on RA remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: An investigation of the therapeutic effects of DGNTG on RA. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-four male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided into four groups: control, model, DGNTG (2.16 g/kg, gavage), methotrexate (MTX) (1.35 mg/kg, gavage) for 28 days. The morphology of synovial and ankle tissues was observed by haematoxylin-eosin staining. The responses of mitochondrial apoptosis were assessed by qPCR, Western blotting and immunohistochemical staining. Rat faeces were analysed by 16S rRNA sequencing. RESULTS: Our results showed that DGNTG treatment reduced AI scores (7.83 ± 0.37 vs. 4.67 ± 0.47, p < 0.01) and paw volumes (7.63 ± 0.17 vs. 6.13 ± 0.11, p < 0.01) compared with the model group. DGNTG also increased the expression of Bax (0.34 ± 0.03 vs. 0.73 ± 0.03, p < 0.01), cytochrome c (CYTC) (0.24 ± 0.02 vs. 0.64 ± 0.01, p < 0.01) and cleaved caspase-9 (0.24 ± 0.04 vs. 0.83 ± 0.08, p < 0.01), and decreased bcl-2 (1.70 ± 0.11 vs. 0.60 ± 0.09, p < 0.01) expression. DGNTG treatment regulated the structure of gut microbiota. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: DGNTG ameliorated RA by promoting mitochondrial apoptosis, which may be associated with regulating gut microbiota structure. DGNTG can be used as a supplement and alternative drug for the treatment of RA; its ability to prevent RA deserves further study.

RESUMEN

The existence of depression among children or adolescents can trigger a sequence of burdens on themselves, their families and even the whole society, which cause both physical and economic impacts. Our network meta-analysis (NMA) was aimed at comparing them with each other for evaluating the optimal psychosocial therapy to help children and adolescents with depression to improve their mental health. Based on several biomedical databases, a system of search strategies was conducted for searching randomized controlled trials (RCTs) which published from their inception on October, 1st 2018 without language restriction. We carried out an expression analysis for comparing the efficacy of various psychosocial therapies using Bayesian NMA. A battery of analyses and assessments, such as conventional meta-analysis and risk of bias, were performed concurrently. Only 32 of RCTs which involved 2677 participants were eventually included in our analyses from the 19,176 of initial citation screening. In addition, in terms of various valid assessment instruments, interpersonal psychotherapy [standard mean difference (SMD) = -1.38, Credible interval (CrI) - 2.5, - 0.20)], computer cognitive-behavioral therapy (SMD = -1.36, CrI - 2.59, - 0.14), cognitive-behavioral therapy (SMD = -1.16, CrI - 2.15, - 0.18), had significantly better effects than the named control group. All together, these results suggest that interpersonal psychotherapy might be the best approach to improve the depressive state among children and adolescents. This study may provide an excellent resource for future endeavors to utilize psychosocial interventions and may also serve as a springboard for creative undertakings as yet unknown.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of non-pharmacological therapies (NPTs) on improving the cognition of people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) by performing a Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA). METHODS: We searched eight databases for potentially eligible studies. Physical exercise (PE), cognitive stimulation (CS), cognitive training (CT), cognitive rehabilitation (CR), musical therapy (MT) and multi-domain interventions (MI). Pairwise meta-analyses were performed by estimating the weighted mean differences with 95% confidence interval (CI) for mini-mental state examination. The NMA was undertaken to compare different interventions. RESULTS: CS, PE, MI, MT and CT may all be effective in improving the cognition of patients with MCI. CR was unable to show a significant efficacy. Our NMA ranking results suggest the effectiveness of the six NPTs to be ranked from best to worst as follows: CS, PE, MI, MT, CT and CR. CONCLUSIONS: NPT has great potential to improve the cognition of the elderly with MCI. CS has the highest probability of being the optimal NPT. However, the result should be interpreted with cautions given the limited number and small samples of included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in this field, large diversity existing in different study designs and potential risk of bias. Future RCTs with high quality and large sample sizes are required to confirm our results. SUMMARY: NPT, as a whole definition, has great potential to improve the cognition of the elderly with MCI. Our NMA ranking results suggest the effectiveness of the six NPTs to be ranked from best to worst as follows: CS, PE, MI, MT, CT and CR.

A series of chiral 5-hydroxy isoxazolidines has been successfully synthesized through camphor sulfonyl hydrazine-catalyzed asymmetric aza-Michael addition reaction between N,O-protected hydroxyamines and enals. Moderate yields with moderate to good enantioselectivities (up to 96% enantiomeric excess [ee]) were achieved. It provides an alternative asymmetric approach to preparing isoxazolidine derivatives.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: A great number of studies have concentrated on the influence of socioeconomic status with health outcomes, but little on how socioeconomic status affects social relationship in adolescents' families, peers and schools. This study aimed to clarify more detailed information on the connection between social relationships and different dimensions of socioeconomic status. METHODS: A school-based cross-sectional study was performed by 13-18 adolescents enrolled in East China from September, 2018 to May, 2019, which recruited 6902 students from junior and senior high schools and used the stratified random sampling method. Parent-child relationship (cohesion, expressiveness, conflict), peer relationship (interpersonal relationship, communication and interaction, social emotion) and student-teacher relationship (intimacy, support, satisfaction, conflict) were investigated. Besides, objective socioeconomic status (parental education and occupation, assessed by the adolescent) and subjective socioeconomic status (self-evaluation of family social class) were measured. More detailed information was used to clarify the link between social relationships and different dimensions of socioeconomic status. RESULTS: All five indicators of socioeconomic status were slightly positively correlated with the quality of social relationships (r ranged from 0.036 to 0.189, all p < 0.001), except that maternal education was not correlated with the conflict dimension of parent-child relationship. Standardized regression coefficients indicated that paternal education (ß = 0.08) and occupation (ß = 0.07) were the predictors of parent-child relationship. And peer relationship model revealed that the corresponding effect size was slightly stronger for subjective socioeconomic status (ß = 0.10), whereas the maternal education had a slightly stronger correlation with student-teacher relationship (ß = 0.07) relative to other indicators. CONCLUSIONS: Adolescents with lower socioeconomic status had poorer social relationships compared to those with higher socioeconomic status. These findings have important public health implications for health policy makers to make sound decisions on resources allocation and services planning in improving adolescents' social relationships and promoting health outcomes.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND Depressive symptoms are a pervasive mental health problem in Chinese adolescents. The aim of this article was to systematically assess the trend of depressive symptoms in China among adolescents (1988 to 2018). MATERIAL AND METHODS A systematic and comprehensive literature search was conducted in both English and Chinese databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane CENTRAL, CNKI, and Wan Fang Database, to identify relevant studies published between 1988 and 2018. Batteries of analyses in this meta-analysis were undertaken using Stata version 12.0 statistical software. RESULTS Sixty-two related reports involving 232 586 participants finally met our inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results suggest the prevalence of depressive symptoms has generally increased over time. The prevalence estimates before 2000 were 18.4% (95% CI, 14.5-22.3%), and were 26.3% (95% CI, 21.9-30.8%) after 2016. The pooled prevalence of depressive symptoms among children and adolescents was 22.2% (95% CI: 19.9-24.6%, I²=99.6%, p<0.001). More subgroup analyses classified by screening instrument, gender, and region were carried out in this meta-analysis. CONCLUSIONS Results of our meta-analysis suggest that depressive symptoms have become more prevalent among Chinese adolescents. This trend emphasizes the need for effective prevention strategies and greater availability of screening tools for this vulnerable population.

RESUMEN

Blue luminescent carbon dots (CDs) with a high photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield (48.3 ± 5.3%) were prepared by the one-pot hydrothermal reaction of citric acid with poly(ethylenimine) (PEI). The CDs display bright PL, narrow emission spectra, pH-dependent PL intensity, high photostability, and up-converted luminescence. The CDs exhibit a quenching of both down- and up-conversion PL in the presence of morin and thus serve as useful probes for morin detection. Both down- and up-conversion measurements allow the quantification of concentrations from 0 to 300 µmol/L with a detection limit of 0.6 µmol/L, and this dual-mode detection increases the reliability of the measurement. The proposed method of determination is simple, sensitive, and cost-effective, with potential applications in clinical and biochemical assays.

RESUMEN

Based on the terahertz time-domain reflection spectroscopy, the optical parameters of anhydrous D-glucose polycrystalline, i.e. the refractive index and the absorption coefficient were extracted by using iterative and genetic algorithm, respectively. After comparing and analyzing the two algorithms we had drawn the following conclusions: first, the calculation efficiency of iterative algorithm was improved using the solution of weak absorption approximation as initial values. However, the iterative algorithm was sensitive to the initial values. When the big difference between the initial values and real values existed, the accuracy of optical constants would be affected; Secondly, the genetic algorithm was not insensitive to the initial populations. It ensured the convergence of the algorithm and the population diversity through the design of parameter coding, initial population, genetic manipulation, parameter control and constraint condition. Last, compared with the iterative algorithm, the optical parameters obtained by the genetic algorithm had higher accuracy. Therefore, we suggest that the optical parameters of materials with higher accuracy based on the THz spectroscopy can be obtained by using an intelligent optimization algorithm.
