RESUMEN

Axially chiral biaryls featuring a C-N axis are important functional molecules in diverse fields. The asymmetric Buchwald-Hartwig reaction represents a powerful strategy for these targets. Previous studies, however, have been predominantly restricted to intramolecular atroposelective coupling, likely due to the steric and entropic effects in the reductive elimination of Pd(II) species with sterically congested aryl and nitrogen groups. We now report two intermolecular Buchwald-Hartwig coupling systems of bulky NH lactams and halohydrocarbons enabled by rerouting the mechanism of C-N reductive elimination to one that accommodates sterically challenging substrates. Both atroposelective coupling systems exhibited functional group tolerance, excellent enantioselectivity, and high Z selectivity (if applicable), affording C-N atropisomeric biaryl and olefins through de novo construction of a C-N chiral axis. Experimental and computational studies were performed to elucidate the mechanism, and the switch of the reaction pathways is traced to the steric effect (ortho substituent) of the aryl halide substrate. A bulky 2,6-disubstituted aryl halide reorients the proximal lactamide ligand to its unusual O-ligation mode. With the amide oxygen participation, this intermediate undergoes C-N reductive elimination with an accessible barrier through a five-membered ring transition state, a pathway as well as a chiral induction mode that has been much underexplored in asymmetric catalysis.

Due to the increased integration and miniaturization of electronic devices, traditional electronic packaging materials, such as epoxy resin (EP), cannot solve electromagnetic interference (EMI) in electronic devices. Thus, the development of multifunctional electronic packaging materials with superior electromagnetic wave absorption (EMA), high heat dissipation, and flame retardancy is critical for current demand. This study employs an in-situ growth method to load layered double hydroxides (LDH) onto transition metal carbides (MXene), synthesizing a novel composite material (MXene@LDH). MXene@LDH possesses a sandwich structure and exhibits excellent EMA performance, thermal conductivity, and flame retardancy. By adjusting the load of LDH, under the synergistic effect of multiple factors, such as dielectric and polarization losses, this work achieves an EMA material with a remarkable minimum reflection loss (RL) of -52.064 dB and a maximum effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 4.5 GHz. Furthermore, MXene@LDH emerges a bridging effect in EP, namely MXene@LDH/EP, leading to a 118.75% increase in thermal conductivity compared to EP. Simultaneously, MXene@LDH/EP contributes to the enhanced flame retardancy compared to EP, resulting in a 46.5% reduction in the total heat release (THR). In summary, this work provides a promising candidate advanced electronic packaging material for high-power density electronic packaging.

Nocardia seriolae pathogen causes chronic granulomatous disease, reportedly affecting over 40 species of marine and freshwater cultured fish. Hence, research is required to address and eliminate this significant threat to the aquaculture industry. In this respect, a reliable and reproducible infection model needs to be established to better understand the biology of this pathogen and its interactions with the host during infection, as well as to develop new vaccines or other effective treatment methods. In this study, we examined the pathogenicity of the pathogen and the immune response of snakehead (Channa argus) juvenile to N. seriolae using a range of methods and analyses, including pathogen isolation and identification, histopathology, Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis, and determination of the median lethal dose (LD50) and cytokine expression. We have preliminarily established a N. seriolae - C. argus model. According to our morphological and phylogenetic analysis data, the isolated strain was identified as N. seriolae and named NSE01. Eighteen days post-infection of healthy juvenile C. argus with N. seriolae NSE01, the mortality rate in all four experimental groups (intraperitoneally injected with 1 × 105 CFU/mL - 1 × 108 CFU/mL of bacterial suspension) (n = 120) was 100 %. The LD50 of N. seriolae NSE01 for juvenile C. argus was determined to be 1.13 × 106 CFU/fish. Infected juvenile C. argus had significant pathological changes, including visceral tissue swelling, hemorrhage, and the presence of numerous nodules of varying sizes in multiple tissues. Further histopathological examination revealed typical systemic granuloma formation. Additionally, following infection with N. seriolae NSE01, the gene expression of important cytokines, such as Toll-like receptor genes TLR2, TLR13, interleukin-1 receptor genes IL1R1, IL1R2, and interferon regulatory factor IRF2 were significantly upregulated in different tissues, indicating their potential involvement in the host immune response and regulation against N. seriolae. In conclusion, juvenile C. argus can serve as a suitable model for N. seriolae infection. The establishment of this animal model will facilitate the study of the pathogenesis of nocardiosis and the development of vaccines.

RESUMEN

An efficient method was developed for the one-pot construction of C-B and C-I via visible light-induced transformation of nitroarenes. This protocol relies on the photochemical properties of nitroarenes under visible light, followed by reduction with B2pin2 and diazotization with tBuONO. An array of arylboronates and iodobenzenes were constructed smoothly after excitation with purple LEDs at room temperature. In addition, the synthetic utility of this method was further demonstrated in the late-stage modification of a drug molecule. The advantages of this strategy include metal-free system, mild reaction conditions and acceptable substrate scope.

BACKGROUND: The present study aimed to identify the risk factors of periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF) after cementless total hip arthroplasty and rank them based on importance. METHODS: The age, sex, body mass index (BMI), osteoporosis, canal flare index (CFI), canal bone ratio (CBR), canal calcar ratio (CCR), stem design, and stem canal fill ratio (P1, P2, P3, and P4) of the proximal femoral medullary cavity of 111 total hip arthroplasty patients who had PFF and 388 who did not have PFF were analyzed. Independent-samples student t-tests were used for continuous variables, and Chi-square tests were used for categorical variables. The importance rankings of influencing factors were assessed using a random forest algorithm. Dimensionally reduced variables were then incorporated into a binary logistic regression model to determine the PFF-related risk factors. RESULTS: The mean age, BMI, CBR, CCR, and incidence of osteoporosis were higher in cases of PFF (all P < .001), while the mean CFI, P1, P2, P3, and P4 were lower in cases of PFF (P < .001, P = .033, P = .008, P < .001, and P < .001, respectively). Additionally, the stem design was also statistically associated with PFF (P < .001). Multivariate logistic regression revealed that advanced age, higher BMI, osteoporosis, stem design, lower CFI, higher CBR, higher CCR, lower P1, lower P2, lower P3, and lower P4 were the risk factors of PFF (P < .001, P < .001, P < .001, P < .001, P < .001, P = .010, P < .001, P = .002, P < .001, P < .001, and P = .007, respectively). The ranked importance of the risk factors for PFF was P3, CFI, osteoporosis, CBR, age, P4, P1, stem design, CCR, BMI, and P2. CONCLUSIONS: Lower P3, lower CFI, osteoporosis, higher CBR, advanced age, lower P4, lower P1, stem design, higher CCR, higher BMI, and lower P2 increased the risk of PFF.

Te-based materials with excellent electrical conductivity and ultra-high volume specific capacity have attracted much attention for the cost-efficient aqueous Zn batteries. However, the construction of functional structures with mild volume expansion and suppressed shuttle effects, enabling an expanded lifespan, is still a challenge for conversion-type materials. Herein, the carbon-coated zinc telluride nanowires (ZnTe@C NWs) are rationally designed as a high-performance cathode material for aqueous Zn batteries. The carbon-coated1D nanostructure could not only provide optimized transmission path for electrons and ions, but also help to maintain structure integrity upon volume variation and suppress intermediates dissolution, endowing the ZnTe@C NWs with improved cycling stability and reaction kinetics. Consequently, a reversible six-electron reaction mechanism of ZnTe@C NWs based on Te2- /Te4+ conversion with excellent output capacity (586 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 ) and lifespan (>250 mAh g-1 retained for 400 cycles at 1 A g-1 ) is eventually achieved.

Autophagy is a well-conserved metabolic system that maintains homeostasis by relying on lysosomal breakdown. The endometrium of patients with intrauterine adhesion (IUA) and an animal model exhibits impaired autophagy. Autophagy is negatively correlated with inflammation. Activation of autophagy can inhibit the inflammatory response, while defects in autophagy will activate the inflammatory response. Here, we studied whether electroacupuncture (EA) inhibits inflammation and promotes endometrial injury repair by activating endometrial autophagy. The IUA animal model was established by mechanical injury plus lipopolysaccharide infection. EA stimulation was applied to the acupoints Guanyuan (CV4), bilateral Sanyinjiao (SP6), and Zusanli (ST36). The results indicated that EA could improve endometrial morphology, attenuate endometrial fibers, and enhance endometrial receptivity in the rat. EA could increase the autophagosomes of endometrial epithelial cells, increase the levels of LC3 and Beclin1, and decrease the level of p62. Additionally, EA may also suppress the nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) signaling pathway and reduce the release of inflammatory factors. Additionally, the effect of EA was comparable to that of the autophagy agonist rapamycin, and the autophagy inhibitor 3-methyladenine reversed the therapeutic effect of EA. Therefore, we assume that EA may facilitate endometrial healing by activating autophagy and reducing NF-κB signal pathway-mediated inflammation.

Meat adulteration detection is a common concern of consumers. Here, we proposed a multiplex digital polymerase chain reaction method and a low-cost device for meat adulteration detection. Using a polydimethylsiloxane microfluidic device, polymerase chain reaction reagents could be pump-free loaded into microchambers (40 × 40 chambers) automatically. Due to the independence of multiplex fluorescence channels, deoxyribonucleic acid templates extracted from different animal species could be distinguished by one test. In this paper, we designed primers and probes for four types of meat (beef, chicken, pork, and duck) and labeled each of the four fluorescent markers (hexachlorocyclohexane [HEX], 6-carboxyfluorescein [FAM], X-rhodamine [ROX], and cyanine dyes 5 [CY5]) on the probes. Specific detection and mixed detection experiments were performed on four types of meat, realizing a limit of detection of 3 copies/µL. A mixture of four different species can be detected by four independent fluorescence channels. The quantitative capability of this method is found to meet the requirements of meat adulteration detections. This method has great potential for point-of-care testing together with portable microscopy equipment.

RESUMEN

Solid electrolyte lithium batteries are the next generation of advanced energy devices. The incorporation of solid electrolytes can significantly improve the safety issue of lithium-ion batteries. Organic-inorganic composite solid electrolytes (CSE) are promising candidates for solid-state batteries, but their application is mainly limited by low ionic conductivity. Many studies have shown that the architecture of ordered inorganic fillers in CSE can act as fast lithium-ion transfer channels by auxiliary means, thus significantly improving the ionic conductivities. This review summarises the recent advances in CSE with different dimensional inorganic fillers. Various effective strategies for the construction of ordered structures in CSE are then presented. The review concludes with an outlook on the future development of CSE. This review aims to provide researchers with an in-depth understanding of how to achieve ordered architectures in CSE for advanced solid state lithium batteries.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: We aimed to describe a novel mesh-free pelvic repair surgery for apical prolapse and to evaluate the effect of this technique and early outcomes. METHODS: We demonstrate the key techniques in a video: exposing the anterior longitudinal ligament (ALL) of the presacral space; securing a non-absorbable suture to the ALL by horoscope stitch; shortening the right uterosacral ligament (USL); placing a non-absorbable suture around the intermediate portion of the left USL for three stitches; placing the non-absorbable suture in the transverse portion of the pubocervical and rectovaginal fascia; locking sutures in place to approximate anterior to posterior connective tissue. Fifteen patients were enrolled to undergo this procedure between December 2020 and April 2021. RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 60.67 (range 46-69) years, the mean body mass index was 24.25 kg/m2 (range 19.61-30.08). The mean operation time was 103.6 min (range 65-166), and the mean blood loss was 82 ml (range 50-200). No intraoperative complications occurred. All patients gained a significant improvement in anatomical and objective outcomes during a mean 9.93-month follow-up, and there was no recurrence. CONCLUSIONS: Our experience showed that this mesh-free repair surgery was a feasible and safe technique for apical prolapse.

BACKGROUND: Although the association between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and hepatic encephalopathy (HE) has been confirmed through some research, the results of these relevant studies still remain controversial. We conducted an updated meta-analysis based on published studies to address this issue. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted, reviewing all studies about the association between H. pylori infection and HE, through November 2021. The outcome measures were presented as odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: In total, 13 studies provided data from 2784 subjects. H. pylori infection increased the risk of HE by 32% (OR = 2.32, 95% CI: 1.78-3.04). The effect became greater after hepatic encephalopathy was divided into overt HE and minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) (HE OR = 2.66, 95% CI: 2.01-3.51, MHE OR = 1.74, 95% CI: 1.10-2.76). After H. pylori eradication, the risk of HE was reduced by 64%. CONCLUSIONS: H. pylori infection is significantly associated with HE, and the infection rate of H. pylori also increases with the severity of HE. Eradication of H. pylori has a protective effect on HE. Therefore, it is necessary to eradicate H. pylori in HE treatments.

BACKGROUND: No study has assessed normal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings to predict potential brain injury in neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). OBJECTIVE: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of MRI-based radiomics models of the basal ganglia, thalami and deep medullary veins to differentiate between HIE and the absence of MRI abnormalities in neonates. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this study, we included 38  full-term neonates with HIE and normal MRI findings and 89 normal neonates. Radiomics features were extracted from T1-weighted images, T2-weighted images, diffusion-weighted imaging and susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI). The different models were evaluated using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Clinical utility was evaluated using decision curve analysis. RESULTS: The SWI model exhibited the best performance among the seven single-sequence models. For the training and validation cohorts, the area under the curves (AUCs) of the SWI model were 1.00 and 0.98, respectively. The combined nomogram model incorporating SWI Rad-scores and independent predictors of clinical characteristics was not able to distinguish HIE in patients without MRI abnormalities from the control group (AUC, 1.00). A high degree of fitting and favorable clinical utility was detected using the calibration curve with the Hosmer-Lemeshow test. Decision curve analysis was used for the SWI, clinical and combined nomogram models. The decision curve showed that the SWI and combined nomogram models had better predictive performance than the clinical model. CONCLUSIONS: HIE can be detected in patients without MRI abnormalities using an MRI-based radiomics model. The SWI model performed better than the other models.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the correlation between perineural invasion and postoperative recurrence in patients surgically treated for penile cancer. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the clinical data on 18 penile cancer patients surgically treated in our hospital from January 2018 to December 2021, 8 with postoperative recurrence (the recurrence group) and the other 10 without (the non-recurrence control group). We compared the two groups of patients in the age of onset, tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stages, American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) prognosis stages, surgical methods, perineural invasion and recurrence time. We analyzed the differences in postoperative recurrence using the Kaplan Meier plotted survival curve and in independent risk factors in predicting postoperative recurrence using the ROC curve. RESULTS: Compared with the non-recurrence controls, the patients in the recurrence group had a significantly older age of onset (P=0.0411) and severer perineural invasion (P<0.001), and those with perineural invasion had a shorter recurrence time (P<0.001), which was an independent risk factor for postoperative recurrence. The areas under the ROC curves for perineural invasion and age were 0.885 and 0.213, respectively. CONCLUSION: Penile cancer with perineural invasion is more prone to and perineural invasion is an independent risk factor for postoperative recurrence of the malignancy.

The electrochemical reactions for the storage of Zn2+ while embracing more electron transfer is a foundation of the future high-energy aqueous zinc batteries. Herein, we report a six-electron transfer electrochemistry of nano-sized TeO2 /C (n-TeO2 /C) cathode by facilitating the reversible conversion of TeO2 ↔Te and Te↔ZnTe. Benefitting from the integrated conductive nanostructure and the proton-rich environment in providing optimized electrochemical kinetics (facilitated Zn2+ uptake and high electronic conductivity) and feasible thermodynamic process (low Gibbs free energy change), the as-prepared n-TeO2 /C with stable cycling performance exhibits a superior reversible capacity of over 800 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 . A precise understanding of the reaction mechanism via ex situ and in situ characterizations presents that the reversible six-electron transfer reaction is proton-dependent, and a proton generating and consuming mechanism of three-phase conversion n-TeO2 /C in the weakly acidic electrolyte is thoroughly revealed.

Although Notch signalling pathway could control the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells (NSCs), it is largely unknown about the effect of Notch signalling pathway on the neurogenesis of CD133-positive cells. By using the primary cultured ependymal cells and the transgenic mouse, we found that CD133 immunoreactivity was exclusively localized in the ependymal layer of ventricles; moreover, most CD133-positive cells were co-labelled with Nestin. In addition, recombination signal binding protein J (RBP-J), a key nuclear effector of Notch signalling pathway, was highly active in CD133-positive cells. CD133-positive cells can differentiate into the immature and mature neurons; in particular, the number of CD133-positive cells differentiating into the immature and mature neurons was significantly increased following the deficiency or interference of RBP-J in vivo or in vitro. By using real-time qPCR and Western blot, we found that RBP-J and Hes1 were downregulated, whereas Notch1 was upregulated in the expression levels of mRNAs and proteins following the deficiency or interference of RBP-J. These results demonstrated RBP-J deficiency promoted the proliferation and differentiation of CD133-positive cells. Therefore, we speculated that RBP-J could maintain CD133-positive cells in the characteristics of NSCs possibly by regulating Notch1/RBP-J/Hes1 pathway. It will provide a novel molecular insight into the function of RBP-J as well as facilitate a future investigation of CD133-positive cells with respect to their potential application in neurodegenerative disorder.

Digital polymerase chain reaction (PCR) plays important roles in the detection and quantification of nucleic acid targets, while there still remain challenges including high cost, complex operation, and low integration of the instrumental system. Here, in this work, a novel microfluidic chip based on co-flow step emulsification is proposed for droplet digital PCR (ddPCR), which can achieve droplet generation, droplet array self-assembly, PCR amplification, and fluorescence detection on a single device. With the combination of single-layer lithography and punching operation, a step microstructure was constructed and it served as the key element to develop a Laplace pressure gradient at the Rayleigh-Plateau instability interface so as to achieve droplet generation. It is demonstrated that the fabrication of step microstructure is low cost, easy-to-operate, and reliable. In addition, the single droplet volume can be adjusted flexibly due to the co-flow design; thus, the ddPCR chip can get an ultrahigh upper limit of quantification to deal with DNA templates with high concentrations. Furthermore, the volume fraction of the resulting droplets in this ddPCR chip can be up to 72% and it results in closely spaced droplet arrays, makes the best of CCD camera for fluorescence detections, and is beneficial for the minimization of a ddPCR system. The quantitative capability of the ddPCR chip was evaluated by measuring template DNA at concentrations from 20 to 50 000 copies/µL. Owing to the characteristics of low cost, easy operation, excellent quantitative capability, and minimization, the proposed ddPCR chip meets the requirements of DNA molecule quantification and is expected to be applied in the point-of-care testing field.

The development of flexible energy devices is envisaged to revolutionize the next generation of the wearable electronics industry, the practical application yet faces critical issues of low power density, poor cycling stability, and low energy density. Herein, the authors report a newly flexible hybrid Zn-quinone battery (h-ZnQB) with acidic gel in the cathode and alkaline gel in the anode, in which proton (H+ ) and hydroxide ions (OH- ) are served as the ion charge carriers for acidic quinone cathode and alkaline Zn anode. To this end, the nanohybrids of sub-1 nm MoC quantum dots decorating nitrogen-doped ultrathin graphene (MoC QDs/NG) are developed as the advanced cathode electrocatalysts toward redox conversion between quinone and hydroquinone (H2 Q/Q). Comprehensive characterization studies and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that high valent Mo species originating from the size-effects serve as the active sites for the conversion of H2 Q/Q, contributing to the impressive catalytic performance. The as-developed flexible h-ZnQB displays a high open-circuit voltage of 1.74 V with a specific capacity of 223.3 mAh g-1 and an energy density of 350 Wh kg-1 at 0.2 A g-1 , thanks to the fast kinetics of charge carriers (H+ and OH- ), the high activity of the catalyst, and the elaborate design of alkali-acid gel electrolytes.

High security and convenient operation have been the aim of the anticounterfeiting field. An anticounterfeit system in which multiple information are written on an overlapping area with quantum dot (QD) inks of different fluorescence wavelengths that combines spectroscopy technology for information identification is proposed in this study. Because the emission spectra of QDs can be tuned by simply changing the size, ultraviolet (UV) glue mixed with different sizes of CdSe/ZnS QDs is used as the printing ink with different fluorescence wavelengths. Software-design labels with different information are printed on the overlapping area using inks with different luminescent QDs. The printed information can only be identified by the bandpass filter with the corresponding wavelength under UV light. Under natural light, the information cannot be identified by the naked eye. In the proposed anticounterfeiting system, the excitation light and filter are both indispensables. Our method makes the fabrication of anticounterfeit labels flexible in design, fast in production, and high in information concealment. Meanwhile, the proposed system is quick and convenient, which has huge application potential in the field of display and anticounterfeiting.

Because of unique superiorities of planar optical devices based on metalens on manipulating amplitude, phase, polarization, wavelength of incident light, metalenses have great prospects to replace traditional catadioptric optical components, especially in imaging and optoelectronic integration. However, the research of metalens has focused on visible or near-infrared wavelength in the past few years and little attention was paid to the long-wavelength infrared metalens. Here, we demonstrate the largest aperture, high numerical aperture, and polarization-independent metalens operating at long-wavelength infrared. The metalens has a numerical aperture of 0.45 at the center wavelength of10 µm. The aperture of the metalens is 80 mmwhich is much larger than the existing level we know. It has high-resolution imaging ability with focusing incident light down to a spot as small as ∼1.04λ. Ambient light imaging experiments are carried out to show the performance of the metalens. In addition, metalens is flimsy, large-scale and low-cost, which provides an effective solution for the development of ultra-lightweight and compact optical devices for LWIR technology.

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) images suffer from inevitable micromotion (breathing, heartbeat, and blinking) noise. These image artifacts can severely disturb the visibility of results and reduce accuracy of vessel morphological and functional metrics quantization. Herein, we propose a multiple wavelet-FFT algorithm (MW-FFTA) comprising multiple integrated processes combined with wavelet-FFT and minimum reconstruction that can be used to effectively attenuate motion artifacts and significantly improve the precision of quantitative information. We verified the fidelity of image information and reliability of MW-FFTA by the image quality evaluation. The efficiency and robustness of MW-FFTA was validated by the vessel parameters on multi-scene in vivo OCTA imaging. Compared with previous algorithms, our method provides better visual and quantitative results. Therefore, the MW-FFTA possesses the potential capacity to improve the diagnosis of clinical diseases with OCTA.
