RESUMEN

Histidine triad nucleotide-binding protein 2 (HINT2) is an enzyme found in mitochondria that functions as a nucleotide hydrolase and transferase. Prior studies have demonstrated that HINT2 plays a crucial role in ischemic heart disease, but its importance in cardiac remodelling remains unknown. Therefore, the current study intends to determine the role of HINT2 in cardiac remodelling. HINT2 expression levels were found to be lower in failing hearts and hypertrophy cardiomyocytes. The mice that overexpressed HINT2 exhibited reduced myocyte hypertrophy and cardiac dysfunction in response to stress. In contrast, the deficiency of HINT2 in the heart of mice resulted in a worsening hypertrophic phenotype. Further analysis indicated that upregulated genes were predominantly associated with the oxidative phosphorylation and mitochondrial complex I pathways in HINT2-overexpressed mice after aortic banding (AB) treatment. This suggests that HINT2 increases the expression of NADH dehydrogenase (ubiquinone) flavoprotein (NDUF) genes. In cellular studies, rotenone was used to disrupt mitochondrial complex I, and the protective effect of HINT2 overexpression was nullified. Lastly, we predicted that thyroid hormone receptor beta might regulate HINT2 transcriptional activity. To conclusion, the current study showcased that HINT2 alleviates pressure overload-induced cardiac remodelling by influencing the activity and assembly of mitochondrial complex I. Thus, targeting HINT2 could be a novel therapeutic strategy for reducing cardiac remodelling.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a highly disabling central nervous system injury with a complex pathological process, resulting in severe sensory and motor dysfunction. The current treatment modalities only alleviate its symptoms and cannot effectively intervene or treat its pathological process. Many studies have reported that the transforming growth factor (TGF)-ß signaling pathway plays an important role in neuronal differentiation, growth, survival, and axonal regeneration after central nervous system injury. Furthermore, the TGF-ß signaling pathway has a vital regulatory role in SCI pathophysiology and neural regeneration. Following SCI, regulation of the TGF-ß signaling pathway can suppress inflammation, reduce apoptosis, prevent glial scar formation, and promote neural regeneration. Due to its role in SCI, the TGF-ß signaling pathway could be a potential therapeutic target. This article reported the pathophysiology of SCI, the characteristics of the TGF-ß signaling pathway, the role of the TGF-ß signaling pathway in SCI, and the latest evidence for targeting the TGF-ß signaling pathway for treating SCI. In addition, the limitations and difficulties in TGF-ß signaling pathway research in SCI are discussed, and solutions are provided to address these potential challenges. We hope this will provide a reference for the TGF-ß signaling pathway and SCI research, offering a theoretical basis for targeted therapy of SCI.

Phytochemical investigation on the aerial parts of Gnetum parvifolium led to the isolation of 15 new and eight known structurally diverse stilbenes. The isolated compounds comprised (E)- or (Z)-stilbene (1-6, 15-20), dihydrostilbene (21), phenylbenzofuran (7, 8, 22), benzylated stilbene (9-11), benzylated stilbene dimer (12), and nitrogen-containing stilbene (13a, 13b, 14) types. The structures of the new compounds (1-12, 13a, 13b, 14) were established through spectroscopic analyses and experimental and calculated ECD data. Compound 12 is the first stilbene dimer connected through a benzyl group. In the anti-neuroinflammatory activity assay, compounds 4, 5, 9-11, 13b, and 16-21 displayed significant inhibitory effects against LPS-induced NO release in BV-2 microglial cells, with IC50 values of 0.35-16.1 µM. Compound 10 had the most potent activity (IC50 = 0.35 µM), and the further research indicated that it could decrease the mRNA levels of iNOS, IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α in a dose-dependent manner.

A total of 17 structurally diverse clerodane diterpenoids, including ten undescribed clerodane diterpenoids (tinopanoids K-T, 1-10) and seven known compounds (11-17), were isolated from the vines and leaves of Tinospora crispa. Compound 3 has not only bear the dominant substituents of γ-hydroxy-α, ß-unsaturated-γ-lactone with anti-inflammatory activity, but also a ternary epoxy structure at C-3/C-4. The planar structures and relative configurations of the clerodane diterpenoids were elucidated by spectroscopic data interpretation. The absolute configurations of compounds 1, 4, 8 and 13 were determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallographic, while that of compound 3 was determined using computed ECD data and single crystal X-ray diffraction of related p-bromobenzoate ester (3a). Subsequently, all compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory effect on nitric oxide (NO) production of LPS-activated BV-2 cells, and compounds 3 and 8 exhibited better NO inhibitory potency, with IC50 values of 5.6 and 13.8 µM than the positive control minocycline (Mino, IC50 = 22.9 µM). The corresponding results of western blot analysis and qRT-PCR revealed that compound 3 can significantly inhibit the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) protein expressions, mRNA levels of pro-inflammatory cytokins of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and interleukin 1ß (IL-1ß). The underlying mechanism by which compound 3 exerted anti-neuroinflammatory effects was investigated by western blot and immunofluorescence assay, which suggested compound 3 inhibited LPS induced neuroinflammation via the suppression of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) dependent Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 (Stat3) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways, and the activation of Heme Oxygenase-1 (HO-1) mediated signals.

BACKGROUND: Computed tomography (CT) value studies of cone-beam breast CT (CBBCT) mainly focus on the enhancement value or enhancement rate, and there has been no study on the CT value (Hounsfield units [HU]) of the lesion itself. PURPOSE: To investigate the CT values under contrast-enhanced CBBCT (CE-CBBCT) and non-contrast-enhanced CBBCT (NC-CBBCT) in scanning for the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant breast lesions. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 189 cases of mammary glandular tissues that underwent NC-CBBCT and CE-CBBCT examination. The qualitative CT values of the lesions, standardized Δ(L-A), standardized Δ*(L - G), standardized Δ(L-A) (Post 1st-Pre), and standardized Δ*(L-G) (Post 2nd-Post 1st) between the benign and malignant groups were compared. Prediction performance was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. RESULTS: In total, 58 cases were included in the benign group, 79 cases were included in the malignant group, and 52 cases were included in the normal group. The best diagnostic thresholds of CT values for L (Post 1st-Pre), Δ(L-A) (Post 1st-Pre), and Δ*(L-G) (Post 1st-Pre) were 49.5, 44, and 64.8 HU, respectively. The Δ(L-A) Post-1st rate values of CBBCT had medium diagnostic efficacy (AUC = 0.74, sensitivity = 76.6%, specificity = 69.4%). CONCLUSION: CE-CBBCT can improve the diagnostic efficiency of breast lesions compared with NC-CBBCT. The CT values (HU) of lesions do not need to be standardized with fat and can be directly used in clinical differential diagnosis. The first contrast phase (60 s) is recommended to reduce the radiation exposure.

Cordia subcordata trees or shrubs, belonging to the Boraginaceae family, have strong resistance and have adapted to their habitat on a tropical coral island in China, but the lack of genome information regarding its genetic background is unclear. In this study, the genome was assembled using both short/long whole genome sequencing reads and Hi-C reads. The assembled genome was 475.3 Mb, with 468.7 Mb (99.22%) of the sequences assembled into 16 chromosomes. Repeat sequences accounted for 54.41% of the assembled genome. A total of 26,615 genes were predicted, and 25,730 genes were functionally annotated using different annotation databases. Based on its genome and the other 17 species, phylogenetic analysis using 336 single-copy genes obtained from ortholog analysis showed that C. subcordata was a sister to Coffea eugenioides, and the divergence time was estimated to be 77 MYA between the two species. Gene family evolution analysis indicated that the significantly expanded gene families were functionally related to chemical defenses against diseases. These results can provide a reference to a deeper understanding of the genetic background of C. subcordata and can be helpful in exploring its adaptation mechanism on tropical coral islands in the future.

Cadmium (Cd) is one of the most toxic metals in the environment and exerts deleterious effects on plant growth and production. Duckweed has been reported as a promising candidate for Cd phytoremediation. In this study, the growth, Cd enrichment, and antioxidant enzyme activity of duckweed were investigated. We found that both high-Cd-tolerance duckweed (HCD) and low-Cd-tolerance duckweed (LCD) strains exposed to Cd were hyper-enriched with Cd. To further explore the underlying molecular mechanisms, a genome-wide transcriptome analysis was performed. The results showed that the growth rate, chlorophyll content, and antioxidant enzyme activities of duckweed were significantly affected by Cd stress and differed between the two strains. In the genome-wide transcriptome analysis, the RNA-seq library generated 544,347,670 clean reads, and 1608 and 2045 differentially expressed genes were identified between HCD and LCD, respectively. The antioxidant system was significantly expressed during ribosomal biosynthesis in HCD but not in LCD. Fatty acid metabolism and ethanol production were significantly increased in LCD. Alpha-linolenic acid metabolism likely plays an important role in Cd detoxification in duckweed. These findings contribute to the understanding of Cd tolerance mechanisms in hyperaccumulator plants and lay the foundation for future phytoremediation studies.

Since the outbreak of 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in December 2019, the Chinese government has implemented effective epidemic prevention measures. To provide useful information for governments to manage this public health crisis, we conducted an online survey among Chinese general population from February 24 to 28, 2020. In this study, we examined the impact of epidemic information and rumors on public's worries and attitude toward prevention measures during the outbreak of COVID-19. A total of 853 valid questionnaires (641 women, 75.1%) were collected from 24 provincial regions in China. Most respondents' ages ranged from 18 to 60 (833 participants, 97.66%). A mediation model was built to analyze the influence of epidemic information and rumors on worries and attitude. The results showed that the amount of epidemic information positively predicted public's worries, which in turn predicted a supportive attitude toward the prevention measures. Worries partially mediated the relationship between the amount of epidemic information and the supportive attitude. The amount of rumors negatively predicted the supportive attitude. The results of this study implied the importance of timely and credible information providing to evoke a certain level of worry and promote public cooperation, and the necessary attention to refute and resist rumors for effective risk communication in a public health crisis.

Investigation of dynamical excitations is difficult but crucial to the understanding of many exotic quantum phenomena discovered in quantum materials. This is particularly true for highly frustrated quantum antiferromagnets whose dynamical properties deviate strongly from theoretical predictions made based on the spin-wave or other approximations. Here, we present a large-scale numerical calculation on the dynamical correlation functions of spin-1/2 triangular Heisenberg model using a state-of-the-art tensor network renormalization group method. The calculated results allow us to gain for the first time a comprehensive picture on the nature of spin excitation spectra in this highly frustrated quantum system. It provides a quantitative account for all the key features of the dynamical spectra disclosed by inelastic neutron scattering measurements for Ba_{3}CoSb_{2}O_{9}, revealing the importance of the interplay between low- and high-energy excitations and its renormalization effect to the low-energy magnon bands and high-energy continuums. We identify the longitudinal Higgs modes in the intermediate-energy scale and predict the energy and momentum dependence of spectral functions along the three principal axes that can be verified by polarized neutron scattering experiments. Furthermore, we find that the spin excitation spectra weakly depend on the anisotropic ratio of the antiferromagnetic interaction.

BACKGROUND: The present study aimed to explore the application value of random survival forest (RSF) model and Cox model in predicting the progression-free survival (PFS) among patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LANPC) after induction chemotherapy plus concurrent chemoradiotherapy (IC + CCRT). METHODS: Eligible LANPC patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan before treatment were subjected to radiomics feature extraction. Radiomics and clinical features of patients in the training cohort were subjected to RSF analysis to predict PFS and were tested in the testing cohort. The performance of an RSF model with clinical and radiologic predictors was assessed with the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) and Delong test and compared with Cox models based on clinical and radiologic parameters. Further, the Kaplan-Meier method was used for risk stratification of patients. RESULTS: A total of 294 LANPC patients (206 in the training cohort; 88 in the testing cohort) were enrolled and underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans before treatment. The AUC value of the clinical Cox model, radiomics Cox model, clinical + radiomics Cox model, and clinical + radiomics RSF model in predicting 3- and 5-year PFS for LANPC patients was [0.545 vs 0.648 vs 0.648 vs 0.899 (training cohort), and 0.566 vs 0.736 vs 0.730 vs 0.861 (testing cohort); 0.556 vs 0.604 vs 0.611 vs 0.897 (training cohort), and 0.591 vs 0.661 vs 0.676 vs 0.847 (testing cohort), respectively]. Delong test showed that the RSF model and the other three Cox models were statistically significant, and the RSF model markedly improved prediction performance (P < 0.001). Additionally, the PFS of the high-risk group was lower than that of the low-risk group in the RSF model (P < 0.001), while comparable in the Cox model (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The RSF model may be a potential tool for prognostic prediction and risk stratification of LANPC patients.

BACKGROUND: Pretreatment individualized assessment of tumor response to induction chemotherapy (ICT) is a need in locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LANPC). Imaging method plays vital role in tumor response assessment. However, powerful imaging method for ICT response prediction in LANPC is insufficient. PURPOSE: To establish a robust model for predicting response to ICT in LANPC by comparing the performance of back propagation neural network (BPNN) model with logistic regression model. STUDY TYPE: Retrospective. POPULATION: A total of 286 LANPC patients were assigned to training (N = 200, 43.8 ± 10.9 years, 152 male) and testing (N = 86, 43.5 ± 11.3 years, 57 male) cohorts. FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE: T2 -weighted imaging, contrast enhanced-T1 -weighted imaging using fast spin echo sequences at 1.5 T scanner. ASSESSMENT: Predictive clinical factors were selected by univariate and multivariate logistic models. Radiomic features were screened by interclass correlation coefficient, single-factor analysis, and the least absolute shrinkage selection operator (LASSO). Four models based on clinical factors (Modelclinic ), radiomics features (Modelradiomics ), and clinical factors + radiomics signatures using logistic (Modelcombined ), and BPNN (ModelBPNN ) methods were established, and model performances were compared. STATISTICAL TESTS: Student's t-test, Mann-Whitney U-test, and Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test were used for comparison analysis. The performance of models was assessed by area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) and Delong test. P < 0.05 was considered statistical significance. RESULTS: Three significant clinical factors: Epstein-Barr virus-DNA (odds ratio [OR] = 1.748; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.969-3.171), sex (OR = 2.883; 95% CI, 1.364-6.745), and T stage (OR = 1.853; 95% CI, 1.201-3.052) were identified via univariate and multivariate logistic models. Twenty-four radiomics features were associated with treatment response. ModelBPNN demonstrated the highest performance among Modelcombined , Modelradiomics , and Modelclinic (AUC of training cohort: 0.917 vs. 0.808 vs. 0.795 vs. 0.707; testing cohort: 0.897 vs. 0.755 vs. 0.698 vs. 0.695). CONCLUSION: A machine-learning approach using BPNN showed better ability than logistic regression model to predict tumor response to ICT in LANPC. EVIDENCE LEVEL: 3 TECHNICAL EFFICACY: Stage 2.

As an important mechanism to maintain cellular homeostasis, autophagy exerts critical functions via degrading misfolded proteins and damaged organelles. Recent years, alternative autophagy, a new type of autophagy has been revealed, which shares similar morphology with canonical autophagy but is independent of Atg5/Atg7. Investigations on different diseases showed the pivotal role of alternative autophagy during their physio-pathological processes, including heart diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, oncogenesis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and bacterial infection. However, the studies are limited and the precise roles and mechanisms of alternative autophagy are far from clear. It is necessary to review current research on alternative autophagy and get some hint in order to provide new insight for further study. Video Abstract.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is one of the most common cardiac emergencies with high morbidity and is a leading cause of death worldwide. Since MI could develop into a life-threatening emergency and could also seriously affect the life quality of patients, continuous efforts have been made to create an effective strategy to prevent the occurrence of MI and reduce MI-related mortality. Numerous studies have confirmed that neutrophils play important roles in inflammation and innate immunity, which provide the first line of defense against microorganisms by producing inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, releasing reactive oxygen species, and degranulating components of neutrophil cytoplasmic granules to kill pathogens. Recently, researchers reported that neutrophils are closely related to the severity and prognosis of patients with MI, and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio in post-MI patients had predictive value for major adverse cardiac events. Neutrophils have been increasingly recognized to exert important functions in MI. Especially, granule proteins released by neutrophil degranulation after neutrophil activation have been suggested to involve in the process of MI. This article reviewed the current research progress of neutrophil granules in MI and discusses neutrophil degranulation associated diagnosis and treatment strategies. Video abstract Neutrophils played a crucial role throughout the process of MI, and neutrophil degranulation was the crucial step for the regulative function of neutrophils. Both neutrophils infiltrating and neutrophil degranulation take part in the injury and repair process immediately after the onset of MI. Since different granule subsets (e g. MPO, NE, NGAL, MMP-8, MMP-9, cathelicidin, arginase and azurocidin) released from neutrophil degranulation show different effects through diverse mechanisms in MI. In this review, we reviewed the current research progress of neutrophil granules in MI and discusses neutrophil degranulation associated diagnosis and treatment strategies. Six new lignans with various type of linkage between two C6-C3 fragments (1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3, 4), two new meroterpenoids (5, 6) and 24 known compounds (7-30) were isolated from an EtOH extract of the stems and leaves of Piper puberulum. The absolute configurations of enantiomers 1a and 1b were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, 2a and 2b were determined by comparing their calculated and experimental ECD spectra. Biogenetically, all the new lignans may come from the polymerization of two molecules of hydroxychavicol (30). In the anti-neuroinflammation activity assay, the IC50 values of fifteen compounds were lower than those of the positive control minocycline, and compound 1a showed good activity, but its enantiomer 1b showed no activity. Compound 1a have notable anti-neuroinflammatory activity, and can significantly decrease mRNA levels of proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α) in a dose-dependent manner.

The combined contamination of heavy metals and microplastics is widespread in freshwater environments. However, there are few researches on their combined effects on aquatic plants. In this study, the effects of single and combined stress of 0.01 mg L-1 cadmium (Cd), 50 mg L-1 polyethylene and 50 mg L-1 polypropylene for 15 days on the physiological response, ultrastructure and rhizosphere microbial community of duckweed were investigated. The results showed that Cd and microplastics single or combined stress inhibited the growth of duckweed, shortened the root length and decreased the chlorophyll content. Compared with single Cd treatments, the combination of microplastics and Cd increased duckweed growth rate and increased superoxide dismutase activity and malondialdehyde content and reduced chloroplast structural damage, indicating that the combined stress could reduce the toxicity of heavy metals to duckweed. Through the study of rhizosphere microbial diversity, 1381 Operational Taxonomic Unit (OTUs) were identified and rich microbial communities were detected in the duckweed rhizosphere. Among them, the main microbial communities were Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Cyanobacteria. Compared with Cd single stress, the ACE and chao index of rhizosphere microbial community increased under combined stress, indicating that the diversity and abundance of microbial communities were improved after combined stress treatment. Our study revealed the effects of heavy metals and microplastics on aquatic plants, providing a theoretical basis for duckweed applications in complex water pollution.

Two pairs of cycloneolignane enantiomers, piperhancins A and B (1 and 2, respectively), along with two enantiomeric pairs of biosynthetic related neolignanes, hancinone C (3) and piperhancin C (4), were isolated from the stems of Piper hancei. Compound 1 is an unprecedented 1',2:1,2'-dicyclo-8,3'-neolignane. Their structures and absolute configurations were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses, X-ray diffraction, and electronic circular dichroism calculations. Among all of the isolates, compounds (+)-1, (-)-1, (+)-2, (-)-2, and (+)-3 could significantly inhibit the production of nitric oxide secreted by lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced neuroinflammation in BV-2 microglial cells, with IC50 values of 1.1-26.3 µM. In addition, compound (-)-1 could decrease the mRNA levels of iNOS, IL-6, and TNF-α induced by LPS in BV-2 microglial cells.

Three new tyramine-type alkamides (1-3), three new natural products (4-6), five new N-acylated/formylated aporphine alkamides with different ratios of rotational isomers (7-11), and 20 known alkamides (12-31) were isolated from an EtOH extract of the stems and leaves of Piper puberulum. The absolute configurations of compounds 7, 8, and 10 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In the biological activity assay, compounds 3, 5, and 10-23 displayed inhibitory effects against lipopolysaccharide-induced NO release in BV-2 microglial cells, exhibiting IC50 values of 0.93-45 µM.

Sixteen chebulic acid derivatives, including nine new (1-9) and seven known (10-16) ones, were isolated from an ethanol extract of the branches and leaves of Balakata baccata. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by their UV, IR, HRESIMS, NMR, electronic circular dichroism (ECD) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. The effects of all the isolates on antineuroinflammatory and antioxidant activities were evaluated. Compared with the positive control minocycline (IC50 = 1.21 ± 0.71 µM), compounds 1-16 with IC50 values being greater than 50 µM, displayed almost no effects on the inhibition of NO production in LPS-induced BV-2 microglial cells, however, the results of antioxidant activity for compounds 1-16 showed significant DPPH-radical scavenging abilities with EC50 value ranging from 3.98 to 14.24 µM, while the EC50 value of positive control vitamin C was 14.31 µM. At last, the results of PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis showed that compound 1 could enhance the expression of antioxidases (HO-1, GCLC, and NQO1) at the mRNA levels.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to describe the area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) and the relationship with hematological toxicity plus clinical responses of docetaxel in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Furthermore, a suitable docetaxel exposure level would be identified to guide clinical dosing. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 96 patients with locally advanced or metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma treated with docetaxel-based chemotherapy were enrolled. Docetaxel was measured by turbidimetric immunoassay. Associations between docetaxel exposure and hematologic toxicity, effect, and recurrence time were analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to determine an optimal AUC value to predict the decrease in absolute neutrophil counts. RESULTS: Interpatient variability was large with regard to exposure (AUC) and clearance. The AUC values of 76 patients in course 1 varied more than 4 fold (3.17 ± 0.84 µg×h/mL, ranging from 1.4 to 6.0 µg×h/mL). Clearance was 42.8 L/h (ranging from 20.8 to 73.7 L/h) with ~ 3-fold interindividual variability. The incidence of grade 3/4 leukopenia, 3/4 neutropenia, and febrile neutropenia was 46.3, 85.2, and 13.5%, respectively, in course 1. Docetaxel exposure was the only significant predictor (p < 0.001) of severe toxicity, including grade 4 neutropenia and febrile neutropenia. A cutoff value of 2.85 µg×h/mL was selected as the target AUC. Higher AUC values were not observed to be associated with better drug effect. CONCLUSION: The dose was calculated based on individual clearance and a target AUC of 2.85 µg×h/mL, helping to adjust the next cycle of doses and solve interpatient variability.

Background: Acupuncture is an effective therapy for premenstrual syndrome (PMS). However, the mechanisms behind this method are still unclear. Our previous study found that aberrant amygdala resting-state functional networks were involved in PMS. Thereby, a deep investigation on the alterations of amygdala resting-state functional networks induced by acupuncture stimulation might contribute to a better understanding of the intricate mechanisms of acupuncture treatment on PMS. Methods: Twenty three PMS patients were recruited in this study. All patients received a 6-minute electro-acupuncture stimulation (EAS) at Sanyinjiao acupoint (SP6) and underwent two 6-minute resting-state fMRI scannings before and after EAS. With amygdala as the seed region, functional connectivity (FC) method was adopted to examine EAS-related modulation of intrinsic connectivity in PMS patients by comparing pre-EAS. Results: The results showed that EAS at SP6 induced increased FC between the left amygdala and brainstem, right hippocampus, and decreased FC between the left amygdala and left thalamus, bilateral supplementary motor area (SMA). Moreover, the results also showed that EAS at SP6 induced increased FC between the right amygdala and brainstem, right hippocampus, right orbitofrontal cortex, bilateral anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), and decreased FC between the right amygdala and right SMA. Conclusions: Based on the results of our previous study, our findings might improve our understanding of neural mechanisms behind acupuncture effects on PMS.
