RESUMEN

Anxiety-related disorders respond to cognitive behavioral therapies, which involved the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC). Previous studies have suggested that subregions of the mPFC have different and even opposite roles in regulating innate anxiety. However, the specific causal targets of their descending projections in modulating innate anxiety and stress-induced anxiety have yet to be fully elucidated. Here, we found that among the various downstream pathways of the prelimbic cortex (PL), a subregion of the mPFC, PL-mediodorsal thalamic nucleus (MD) projection, and PL-ventral tegmental area (VTA) projection exhibited antagonistic effects on anxiety-like behavior, while the PL-MD projection but not PL-VTA projection was necessary for the animal to guide anxiety-related behavior. In addition, MD-projecting PL neurons bidirectionally regulated remote but not recent fear memory retrieval. Notably, restraint stress induced high-anxiety state accompanied by strengthening the excitatory inputs onto MD-projecting PL neurons, and inhibiting PL-MD pathway rescued the stress-induced anxiety. Our findings reveal that the activity of PL-MD pathway may be an essential factor to maintain certain level of anxiety, and stress increased the excitability of this pathway, leading to inappropriate emotional expression, and suggests that targeting specific PL circuits may aid the development of therapies for the treatment of stress-related disorders.

Kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) is a highly immune-infiltrated kidney cancer with the highest mortality rate and the greatest potential for invasion and metastasis. Solute carrier family 11 member1 (SLC11A1) is a phagosomal membrane protein located in monocytes and plays a role in innate immunity, autoimmune diseases, and infection, but its expression and biological role in KIRC is still unknown. In this study, we sought to investigate the potential value of SLC11A1 according to tumor growth and immune response in KIRC. TIMER and UALCAN database was used to analyze the expression feature and prognostic significance of SLC11A1 and its correlation with immune-related biomarkers in KIRC. Proliferation, migration, and invasion were measured using colony formation, EdU, and transwell assays. Role of SLC11A1 on KIRC tumor growth was examined by the xenograft tumor model in vivo. Effects of KIRC cells on macrophage polarization and the proliferation and apoptosis of CD8+ T cells were analyzed using flow cytometry assays. Herein, SLC11A1 was highly expressed in KIRC tissues and cell lines. SLC11A1 downregulation repressed KIRC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, macrophage, and lymphocyte immunity in vitro, as well as hindered tumor growth in vivo. SLC11A1 is significantly correlated with immune cell infiltration and immune-related biomarkers. In KIRC patients, SLC11A1 is highly expressed and positively correlated with the immune-related factors CCL2 and PD-L1. SLC11A1 induced CCL2 and PD-L1 expression, thereby activating the JAK/STAT3 pathway. SLC11A1 deficiency constrained KIRC cell malignant phenotypes and immune response via regulating CCL2 and PD-L1-mediated JAK/STAT3 pathway, providing a promising therapeutic target for KIRC treatment.

Multiple factors cause atherosclerosis, meaning its pathogenesis is complex, and has not been fully elucidated. Polyunsaturated fatty acids are a member of the fatty acid family, which are critical nutrients for mammalian growth and development. The types of polyunsaturated fatty acids ingested, their serum levels, and fatty acid desaturase can influence the atherosclerotic disease progression. The fatty acid desaturase gene cluster can regulate fatty acid desaturase activity and further affect atherosclerosis. This study reviewed the research progress on the effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids on atherosclerosis regulated by fatty acid desaturase and the relationship between genetic variants of the fatty acid desaturase gene cluster and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

BACKGROUND: Ferroptosis is a newly recognized form of regulatory cell death characterized by severe lipid peroxidation triggered by iron overload and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). However, the role of ferroptosis in severe acute pancreatitis(SAP) has not been fully elucidated. METHODS: We established four severe acute pancreatitis models of rats including the sham control group, the SAP group, the Fer -1-treated SAP (SAP + Fer-1) group, the 3-MA-treated SAP (SAP + 3-MA) group. The SAP group was induced by retrograde injection of sodium taurocholate into the pancreatic duct. The other two groups were intraperitoneally injected with ferroptosis inhibitor (Fer-1) and autophagy inhibitor (3-MA), respectively. The model of severe acute pancreatitis with amylase crest-related inflammatory factors was successfully established. Then we detected ferroptosis (GPX4, SLC7A1 etc.) and autophagy-related factors (LC3II, p62 ect.) to further clarify the relationship between ferroptosis and autophagy. RESULTS: Our study found that ferroptosis occurs during the development of SAP, such as iron and lipid peroxidation in pancreatic tissues, decreased levels of reduced glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX 4) and glutathione (GSH), and increased malondialdehyde(MDA) and significant mitochondrial damage. In addition, ferroptosis related proteins such as GPX4, solute carrier family 7 member 11(SLC7A11) and ferritin heavy chain 1(FTH1) were significantly decreased. Next, the pathogenesis of ferroptosis in SAP was studied. First, treatment with the ferroptosis inhibitor ferrostatin-1(Fer-1) significantly alleviated ferroptosis in SAP. Interestingly, autophagy occurs during the pathogenesis of SAP, and autophagy promotes the occurrence of ferroptosis in SAP. Moreover, 3-methyladenine (3-MA) inhibition of autophagy can significantly reduce iron overload and ferroptosis in SAP. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that ferroptosis is a novel pathogenesis of SAP and is dependent on autophagy. This study provides a new theoretical basis for the study of SAP.

BACKGROUND: Insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2) has been confirmed to play oncogenic role in many cancers. However, the role and mechanism of IGF2BP2 in bladder cancer (BCa) still deserves to be further revealed. METHODS: The mRNA and protein levels of IGF2BP2 and neuronilin-1 (NRP1) were detected by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and western blot. Cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration and invasion were determined using colony formation assay, EdU assay, CCK8 assay, flow cytometry and transwell assay. Xenograft tumor model was conducted to evaluate the role of IGF2BP2 in vivo. THP-1-M0 macrophages were co-cultured with the condition medium (CM) of BCa cells to induce polarization. M2 macrophage polarization was assessed by detecting the mRNA levels of M2 macrophage markers using RT-qPCR and measuring the proportion of M2 macrophage markers using flow cytometry. Moreover, MeRIP and RIP assay were performed to assess m6A level and the interaction between IGF2BP2 and NRP1. RESULTS: IGF2BP2 and NRP1 were upregulated in BCa tissues and cells. IGF2BP2 knockdown suppressed BCa cell growth and metastasis, as well as inhibited BCa tumor growth. After THP-1-M0 macrophages were co-cultured with the CM of BCa cells, the levels of M2 macrophage markers were markedly enhanced, while this effect was abolished by IGF2BP2 knockdown. IGF2BP2 level was positively correlated with NRP1 level, and it could increase NRP1 mRNA stability. NRP1 overexpression reversed the suppressive effect of IGF2BP2 knockdown on M2 macrophage polarization and BCa cell progression. CONCLUSION: m6A-reader IGF2BP2 enhanced M2 macrophage polarization and BCa cell progression by promoting NRP1 mRNA stability.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic affected healthcare delivery across all specialties including apheresis. To describe the changes in apheresis service practices that occurred during the pandemic, the American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) Apheresis Medicine Attending Physician Subcommittee conducted a survey study. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: A 32-question survey was designed and distributed to 400 ASFA physician members on September 7, 2022. Attending physicians responded to questions about whether and how apheresis service practices changed during the COVID-19 pandemic compared with the time period prior to the pandemic in terms of: (1) procedure types and volumes, (2) patient consultation workflow, and (3) the use of telemedicine. Descriptive analyses were reported as number and frequency of responses. RESULTS: The survey response rate was 13.8% (55/400). Of these respondents, 96.4% (53/55) were attending physicians. The majority of respondents (42/53, 79.2%) indicated that the types of procedures performed during COVID-19 compared to pre-pandemic did not change. Most frequently for apheresis procedure volume, respondents reported: no change in their monthly inpatient volume (21/47, 44.7%) and a decrease in their monthly outpatient volume (28/46, 60.9%). Prior to COVID-19, 75.0% (30/40) of respondents performed consultations at bedside for inpatients and 67.4% (29/43) performed consultations at bedside for outpatients. Bedside consultations decreased in both settings during the pandemic but were still most frequently performed by attending physicians. At the same time, the use of telemedicine increased for 15.4% of survey respondents during COVID-19. CONCLUSION: Some, but not all, respondents observed or made changes to their apheresis service during the COVID-19 pandemic. A subset of changes, such as increased utilization of telemedicine, may persist.

BACKGROUND: Oculocutaneous albinism (OCA) is a group of autosomal recessive hereditary disorders that affect melanin biosynthesis, resulting in abnormalities in hair, skin, and eyes. Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a proliferative retinopathy mainly observed in premature infants with low birth weight and early gestational age, but it can also affect full-term infants or children with normal weight, particularly in developing countries. The coexistence of ROP and OCA is rare. There is limited documentation regarding treatment approaches, with few studies reporting positive outcomes with laser treatment due to the absence of melanin pigment. This study discusses the treatment challenges in a female infant diagnosed with ROP and OCA, and underscores the importance of genetic analysis in guiding therapeutic decisions for this rare comorbid condition. CASE PRESENTATION: The study presents a case of ROP occurring concurrently with OCA. Genetic testing revealed two variants, c.727C > T (p.R243C) and c.1832 T > C (p.L611P), in the OCA2 gene, inherited from the patient's mother and father, respectively. The identified mutations were consistent with a diagnosis of OCA2, classified as a subtype of OCA. The patient initially received intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injection, followed by laser photocoagulation therapy for a recurrent event. A favorable outcome was observed during the 2-month follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS: The co-occurrence of ROP and OCA is a rare phenomenon, and this is the first recorded case in the Chinese population. The current case supports the use of laser as the primary treatment modality for ROP in OCA2 patients with partial pigmentation impairment. Furthermore, genetic analysis can aid in predicting the effectiveness of laser photocoagulation in this patient population.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, pathological features and treatment of small-cell carcinoma of the prostate (SCCP). METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the clinical and pathological data of 2 cases of confirmed SCCP treated from November 2017 to March 2018, and reviewed relevant literature. RESULTS: Both the patients had the symptoms of frequent, urgent and difficult urination, with an elevated level of PSA and gradesⅡ-Ⅲ enlargement of the prostate at palpation. One underwent prostate puncture biopsy and the other received transurethral 1470 laser vaporization resection of the tumor. Postoperative pathology indicated prostate adenocarcinoma accompanied by SCCP in both of the cases. One of them was treated by etoposide-platinum (EP) chemotherapy and died of systemic multiple organ failure 20 months after diagnosis, while the other underwent endocrine therapy and has lived with tumor up to the present day. CONCLUSION: The incidence rate of SCCP is low, its malignancy is high, and its prognosis is poor. The average survival of the patient is about 7 to 10 months after diagnosis. Currently there is no effective management of the dissease, except by relying on the experience of the treatment of small-cell lung cancer, with chemotherapy as the main option.

The food security of China as a big agricultural country is attracting increasing attention. With the progress in the traditional Chinese medicine industry, Chinese medicinal materials and their preparations have been gradually developed as agents for disease prevention and with antimicrobial and insecticidal functions in agriculture. Promoting pesticide innovation by interdisciplinary integration has become the trend in pesticide research globally. Considering the increasingly important roles of green pesticides from traditional Chinese medicines and artificial intelligence in pest target prediction, this paper proposed an innovative green control strategy in line with the concepts of ecological sustainable development and food security protection. CiteSpace was used for visual analysis of the publications. The results showed that artificial intelligence had been extensively applied in the pesticide field in recent years. This paper explores the application and development of biopesticides for the first time, with focus on the plant-derived pesticides. The thought of traditional Chinese medicine compatibility can be employed to creat a new promosing field: pesticides from traditional Chinese medicine. Moreover, artificial intelligence can be employed to build the formulation system of pesticides from traditional Chinese medicines and the target prediction system of diseases and pests. This study provides new ideas for the future development and market application of biopesticides, aiming to provide more healthy and safe agricultural products for human beings, promote the innovation and development of green pesticides in China, and protect the sustainable development of the environment and ecosystem. This may be the research hotspot and competition point for the green development of the pesticide industry chain in the future.

Long-term potentiation (LTP) in the hippocampus is the most studied form of synaptic plasticity. Temporal integration of synaptic inputs is essential in synaptic plasticity and is assumed to be achieved through Ca2+ signaling in neurons and astroglia. However, whether these two cell types play different roles in LTP remain unknown. Here, we found that through the integration of synaptic inputs, astrocyte inositol triphosphate (IP3) receptor type 2 (IP3R2)-dependent Ca2+ signaling was critical for late-phase LTP (L-LTP) but not early-phase LTP (E-LTP). Moreover, this process was mediated by astrocyte-derived brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). In contrast, neuron-derived BDNF was critical for both E-LTP and L-LTP. Importantly, the dynamic differences in BDNF secretion play a role in modulating distinct forms of LTP. Moreover, astrocyte- and neuron-derived BDNF exhibited different roles in memory. These observations enriched our knowledge of LTP and memory at the cellular level and implied distinct roles of astrocytes and neurons in information integration.

Neuroplasticity in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is essential for fear extinction, the process of which forms the basis of the general therapeutic process used to treat human fear disorders. However, the underlying molecules and local circuit elements controlling neuronal activity and concomitant induction of plasticity remain unclear. Here we show that sustained plasticity of the parvalbumin (PV) neuronal network in the infralimbic (IL) mPFC is required for fear extinction in adult male mice and identify the involvement of neuregulin 1-ErbB4 signalling in PV network plasticity-mediated fear extinction. Moreover, regulation of fear extinction by basal medial amygdala (BMA)-projecting IL neurons is dependent on PV network configuration. Together, these results uncover the local molecular circuit mechanisms underlying mPFC-mediated top-down control of fear extinction, suggesting alterative therapeutic approaches to treat fear disorders.

Plant polysaccharides, as significant functional macromolecules with diverse biological properties, are currently receiving increasing attention. Drying technologies play a pivotal role in the research, development, and application of various foods and plant polysaccharides. The chemical composition, structure, and function of extracted polysaccharides are significantly influenced by different drying technologies (e.g., microwave, infrared, and radio frequency) and conditions (e.g., temperature). This study discusses and compares the principles, advantages, disadvantages, and effects of different drying processes on the chemical composition as well as structural and biological properties of plant polysaccharides. In most plant-based raw materials, molecular degradation, molecular aggregation phenomena along with intermolecular interactions occurring within cell wall components and cell contents during drying represent primary mechanisms leading to variations in chemical composition and structures of polysaccharides. These differences further impact their biological properties. The biological properties of polysaccharides are determined by a combination of multiple relevant factors rather than a single factor alone. This review not only provides insights into selecting appropriate drying processes to obtaining highly bioactive plant polysaccharides but also offers a fundamental theoretical basis for the structure-function relationship of these compounds.

Tea, as a beverage, has been reputed for its health benefits and gained worldwide popularity. Tea polyphenols, especially catechins, as the main bioactive compounds in tea, exhibit diverse health benefits and have wide applications in the food industry. The development of tea polyphenol-incorporated products is dependent on the extraction, purification, and identification of tea polyphenols. Recent years, many green and novel extraction, purification, and identification techniques have been developed for the preparation of tea polyphenols. This review, therefore, introduces the classification of tea and summarizes the main conventional and novel techniques for the extraction of polyphenols from various tea products. The advantages and disadvantages of these techniques are also intensively discussed and compared. In addition, the purification and identification techniques are summarized. It is hoped that this updated review can provide a research basis for the green and efficient extraction, purification, and identification of tea polyphenols, which can facilitate their utilization in the production of various functional food products and nutraceuticals.

BACKGROUND: Patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) frequently undergo prophylactic red blood cell (RBC) exchange transfusion and simple transfusion (RCE/T) to prevent complications of disease, such as stroke. These treatment procedures are performed with a target hemoglobin S (HbS) of ≤30%, or a goal of maintaining an HbS level of <30% immediately prior to the next transfusion. However, there is a lack of evidence-based instructions for how to perform RCE/T in a way that will result in an HbS value <30% between treatments. PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE: To determine whether targets for post-treatment HbS (post-HbS) or post-treatment HCT (post-HCT) can help to maintain an HbS <30% or <40% between treatments. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a retrospective study of patients with SCD treated with RCE/T at Montefiore Medical Center from June 2014 to June 2016. The analysis included patients of all ages, and data including 3 documented parameters for each RCE/T event: post-HbS, post-HCT, and follow-up HbS (F/u-HbS), which is the pre-treatment HbS prior to the next RCE/T. Generalized linear mixed model was used for estimating the association between post-HbS or post-HCT levels and F/u-HbS <30%. RESULTS: Based on our results, targeting post-HbS ≤10% was associated with higher odds of having events of F/u-HbS <30% between monthly treatments. Targeting post-HbS ≤15% was associated with higher odds of events of F/u-HbS < 40%. As compared to post-HCT ≤30%, a post-HCT >30%-36% did not contribute to more F/u-HbS <30% or HbS <40% events. CONCLUSIONS: For patients with SCD undergoing regular RCE/T for stroke prevention, a post-HbS ≤10% can be used as a goal to help maintain an HbS <30% for 1 month, and a post-HbS ≤15% allowed patients to maintain HbS <40%.

Histone deacetylases (HDACs), known as histone acetylation erasers, function crucially in plant growth and development. Although there are abundant reports focusing on HDACs of Arabidopsis and illustrating their important roles, the knowledge of HDAC genes in Tartary buckwheat (Polygonales Polygonaceae Fagopyrum tataricum (L.) Gaertn) is still scarce. In the study, a total of 14 HDAC genes were identified and divided into three main groups: Reduced Potassium Dependency-3/His-52 tone Deacetylase 1 (RPD3/HDA1), Silent Information Regulator 2 (SIR2), and the plant-53 specific HD2. Domain and motif composition analysis showed there were conserved domains and motifs in members from the same subfamilies. The 14 FtHDACs were distributed asymmetrically on 7 chromosomes, with three segmental events and one tandem duplication event identified. The prediction of the cis-element in promoters suggested that FtHDACs probably acted in numerous biological processes including plant growth, development, and response to environmental signals. Furthermore, expression analysis based on RNA-seq data displayed that all FtHDAC genes were universally and distinctly expressed in diverse tissues and fruit development stages. In addition, we found divergent alterations in FtHDACs transcript abundance in response to different light conditions according to RNA-seq and RT-qPCR data, indicating that five FtHDACs might be involved in light response. Our findings could provide fundamental information for the HDAC gene family and supply several targets for future function analysis of FtHDACs related with light response of Tartary buckwheat.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical characteristics and treatment options of keratoacanthoma (KA) of the penis. METHODS: We report the diagnosis and treatment of a case of penile keratoacanthoma in our hospital and review the literature. RESULTS: The patient was admitted due to the discovery of a "new lesion on the glans for 4 months," diagnosed with a penile tumor, underwent tumor resection surgery, with histopathological examination revealing squamous epithelial hyperplasia, thickening, and excessive keratinization. The postoperative pathological diagnosis was penile keratoacanthoma. There was no recurrence or metastasis during follow-up. CONCLUSION: KA is a relatively rare benign tumor with potential malignant transformation, and close follow-up is necessary postoperatively.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the safety and effectiveness of the "scarless" circumcision technique (a modified sleeve-style circumcision method) that preserves the original appearance, providing a more suitable surgical option for patients with redundant prepuce. METHODS: Clinical data of patients who underwent "scarless" circumcision at the Eastern Theater Command General Hospital from April 2022 to March 2023 were collected, with patients who underwent conventional circumcision (single-use stapler method) during the same period serving as the control group. The two groups were compared in terms of operation time, postoperative recovery time, incidence of postoperative complications, and patient satisfaction rates after surgery. RESULTS: The operation time for the study group was significantly longer than that of the control group; there was no significant difference in pain scores on the day of surgery between the two groups, but the pain scores on postoperative days 1, 3, and 7 were lower in the study group than in the control group; the postoperative recovery time was significantly shorter in the study group than in the control group; regarding postoperative complications: the control group had higher rates of edema, incision infection, and wound dehiscence than the study group. A satisfaction survey conducted 30 days postoperatively showed higher satisfaction in the study group than in the control group. CONCLUSION: The "scarless" circumcision technique that preserves the original appearance is safe and effective for patients with simple redundant prepuce and is a new surgical method with value for widespread adoption.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical effect and safety of transurethral 1470 nm semiconductor laser vaporization and cutting in the treatment of super high age and high risk benign prostatic hyperplasia. METHODS: The clinical data of 38 patients with super-high-risk prostate who underwent transurethral surgery in our hospital from April 2016 to December 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. All patients had obvious progressive dysuria. The diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia was confirmed by urinary color Doppler ultrasound, anal finger examination, PSA, prostate biopsy, etc., and prostate cancer was excluded. Each patient was aged ≥85 years old and combined with one or more types. Senile basic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, emphysema, sequelae of cerebral infarction, etc. The patients were randomly divided into two groups. The observation group was treated with transurethral 1470 nm semiconductor laser vaporization and the control group was treated with transurethral plasma electrotomy. To observe the changes of vital signs, bleeding, duration of surgery, postoperative bladder irrigation time, urinary catheter retention time, and changes of hemoglobin before and after surgery. Surgical safety. The international prostate symptom score (IPSS), quality of life score (QoL), maximum urinary flow rate (Qmax), and post-void residual urine volume (PVR) were evaluated 2 months after surgery and compared with preoperative evaluation to evaluate the surgical outcome. RESULTS: All 38 operations were successfully completed.The vital signs of the patients were stable during the operation. The average operation time of the observation group and the control group was (79.6±24.7 vs 69.5±19.8) min, P>0.05. The hemoglobin decreased by (6.9±3.0) g/L vs (13.2±4.0) g/L, after operation.P<0.05; postoperative bladder irrigation time (14.7±2.8 vs 23.5±5.3)h, P<0.05; average postoperative urinary catheter retention time (3.8±0.4 vs 5.7±0.9)d, P<0.05; average postoperative hospital stay (5.3±1.1 vs 7.2±1.9)d, P<0.05; all patients were followed up for 2 months, IPSS, QoL, Qmax, PVR and other indicators were significantly improved compared with preoperative, no major bleeding, urinary incontinence, cardiopulmonary failure and Significant urinary tract irritation symptoms occur. CONCLUSION: Compared with plasma electric resection, transurethral 1470 nm semiconductor laser treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia has the advantages of high safety and remarkable effect, especially suitable for patients with high age and high risk.

BACKGROUND: More and more studies have shown that circular RNAs (circRNAs) play a critical regulatory role in many cancers. However, the potential molecular mechanism of circRNAs in prostate cancer (PCa) remains largely unknown. METHODS: Differentially expressed circRNAs were identified by RNA sequencing. The expression of hsa_circ_0003258 was evaluated using quantitative real-time PCR and RNA in situ hybridization. The impacts of hsa_circ_0003258 on the metastasis of PCa cells were investigated by a series of in vitro and in vivo assays. Lastly, the underlying mechanism of hsa_circ_0003258 was revealed by Western blot, biotin-labeled RNA pulldown, RNA immunoprecipitation, luciferase assays and rescue experiments. RESULTS: Increased expression of hsa_circ_0003258 was found in PCa tissues and was associated with advanced TNM stage and ISUP grade. Overexpression of hsa_circ_0003258 promoted PCa cell migration by inducing epithelial mesenchymal transformation (EMT) in vitro as well as tumor metastasis in vivo, while knockdown of hsa_circ_0003258 exerts the opposite effect. Mechanistically, hsa_circ_0003258 could elevate the expression of Rho GTPase activating protein 5 (ARHGAP5) via sponging miR-653-5p. In addition, hsa_circ_0003258 physically binds to insulin like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein 3 (IGF2BP3) in the cytoplasm and enhanced HDAC4 mRNA stability, in which it activates ERK signalling pathway, then triggers EMT programming and finally accelerates the metastasis of PCa. CONCLUSIONS: Upregulation of hsa_circ_0003258 drives tumor progression through both hsa_circ_0003258/miR-653-5p/ARHGAP5 axis and hsa_circ_0003258/IGF2BP3 /HDAC4 axis. Hsa_circ_0003258 may act as a promising biomarker for metastasis of PCa and an attractive target for PCa intervention.

RESUMEN

The zebrafish is a species of freshwater fish, popular in aquariums and laboratories. Several advantageous features have facilitated zebrafish to be extensively utilized as a valuable vertebrate model in the lab. It has been well-recognized that natural products possess multiple health benefits for humans. With the increasing demand for natural products in the development of functional foods, nutraceuticals, and natural cosmetics, the zebrafish has emerged as an unprecedented tool for rapidly and economically screening and identifying safe and effective substances from natural products. This review first summarized the key factors for the management of zebrafish in the laboratory, followed by highlighting the current progress on the establishment and applications of zebrafish models in the bioactivity evaluation of natural products. In addition, the zebrafish models used for assessing the potential toxicity or health risks of natural products were involved as well. Overall, this review indicates that zebrafish are promising animal models for the bioactivity and safety evaluation of natural products, and zebrafish models can accelerate the discovery of novel natural products with potential health functions.
