RESUMEN

Antimony selenide (Sb2Se3) is a promising semiconductor for photodetector applications due to its unique photovoltaic properties. Achieving optimal carrier transport in (001)-Sb2Se3 by the material of contacting substrate requires in-depth study. In this paper, the induced growth of Sb2Se3 films from (hk0) to (hk1) planes is achieved on digenite (Cu9S5) films by post-annealing treatment. The flake-like and flower-like morphologies on the surface of Sb2Se3 films are caused by different thicknesses of the Cu9S5 films, which are related to the (hk0) and (hk1) planes of Sb2Se3 surface. The epitaxial growth of Sb2Se3 films on (105)-Cu9S5 surfaces exhibits thickness dependence. The results inform research into the controlled induced growth of low-dimensional materials. The device of Sb2Se3/Cu9S5/Si has good broadband response (visible to near-infrared), self-powered characteristics, and stability. As the crystalline quality of the Sb2Se3 film increases along the (hk1) plane, the carrier transport is enhanced correspondingly. Under the 980 nm light irradiation, the device has an excellent switching ratio of 2 × 104 at 0 bias, with responsivity, detectivity, and response time up to 17 µA W-1, 1.48 × 107 Jones, and 355/490 µs, respectively. This suggests that Sb2Se3 is suitable for self-powered photodetectors and related optical and optoelectronic devices.

BACKGROUND: Squalene epoxidase is one of the rate-limiting enzymes in the biosynthetic pathway of membrane sterols and triterpenoids. The enzyme catalyzes the formation of oxidized squalene, which is a common precursor of sterols and triterpenoids. RESULT: In this study, the squalene epoxidase gene (PcSE) was evaluated in Poria cocos. Molecular docking between PcSE and squalene was performed and the active amino acids were identified. The sgRNA were designed based on the active site residues. The effect on triterpene synthesis in P. cocos was consistent with the results from ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadruplex time-of-flight-double mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QTOF-MS/MS) analysis. The results showed that deletion of PcSE inhibited triterpene synthesis. In vivo verification of PcSE function was performed using a PEG-mediated protoplast transformation approach. CONCLUSION: The findings from this study provide a foundation for further studies on heterologous biosynthesis of P. cocos secondary metabolites.

Nucleolus was an important cellular organelle. The abnormal morphology and number of the nucleolus have been considered as diagnostic biomarkers for some human diseases. However, the imaging agent based on nucleolus was limited. In this manuscript, a series of nucleolar fluorescent probes based on naphthalimide derivatives (NI-1 âˆ¼ NI-5) had been designed and synthesized. NI-1 âˆ¼ NI-5 could penetrate cell membranes and nuclear membranes, achieve clear nucleolar staining in living cells. These results suggested that the presence of amino groups on the side chains of naphthalimide backbone could enhance the targeting to the cell nucleolus. In addition, the molecular docking results showed that NI-1 âˆ¼ NI-5 formed hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions with RNA, and exhibited enhanced fluorescence upon binding with RNA. These results will provide favorable support for the diagnosis and treatment of nucleolus-related diseases in the future.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the efficacy of antegrade and retrograde approaches with the AngioJet thrombectomy device for the treatment of acute lower limb deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and to evaluate the necessity of filter placement. METHODS: The clinical data of patients with acute lower limb DVT treated with the AngioJet device from January 2021 to June 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into the antegrade and retrograde treatment groups according to the surgical approach and the direction of valve opening. The thrombosis interception rate of the filter, incidence of pulmonary embolism (PE), thrombectomy effectiveness, venous obstruction rate, and thrombosis recurrence rate of each treatment group were evaluated. In addition, factors affecting patency were analyzed. RESULTS: AngioJet was employed for 84 patients with acute lower limb DVT, treating a total of 88 limbs. The thrombosis interception rate of the filter was 35.7% (30 patients). The incidence of new PE or PE exacerbation was 6.0% (5 patients), and a filter retrieval rate of 97.6% (82 patients) was detected. Thrombus removal of grade III occurred in 35 (64.8%) of the 54 limbs (61.4%) in the antegrade treatment group, versus 13 (38.2%) of the 34 limbs (38.6%) in the retrograde treatment group (P<0.05). At 3 months, venous patency and bleeding events involved 52 (96.3%) and 4 (7.4%) limbs in the antegrade treatment group, respectively, versus 29 (85.3%) and 2 (5.9%) in the retrograde treatment group, respectively (P>0.05). Regression analysis was performed to determine factors that may affect 3-month patency in both groups. Statistically significant linear relationships were found between 3-month patency and thrombus removal rate [OR=0.546 (0.326, 0.916)], thrombus formation time [OR=1.018 (1.002, 1.036)], and preoperative thrombosis score [OR=1.012 (1.002, 1.022)] in the antegrade treatment group, as well as thrombus removal rate [0.473 (0.229, 0.977)] in the retrograde treatment group. In regression analysis of factors affecting patency in both groups and VCSS/Villalta score, a statistically significant linear relationship was found between thrombus formation time and VCSS score in the antegrade treatment group [0.576 (0.467, 0.710)]. CONCLUSION: Both antegrade and retrograde approaches are safe and effective for the treatment of acute lower limb DVT. There are no differences in 3-month deep vein patency and post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) incidence rates. Individuals with acute lower limb DVT are at high risk of thrombus shedding after treatment with AngioJet thrombectomy, and placement of a vena cava filter (VCF) is recommended for effective interception.

Lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration is a common pathological process in the spine,with the main clinical symptoms of low back pain,numbness of lower limbs,and defecation dysfunction.The occurrence and development of lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration are determined by multiple factors,and the pathophysiological and cellular mechanisms remain to be fully understood.Nucleus pulposus tissue engineering is a new biotherapy that combines biological histology with material science to treat diseases including lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration.Clinicians should fully learn the complex relationship between nucleus pulposus tissue engineering and lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration,which will facilitate the clinical treatment of lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration,the rehabilitation of lumbar intervertebral disc after treatment,and the prevention of this disease in the population.

The method of ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-electrostatic field orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry(UHPLC-Q/Orbitrap HRMS)combined with molecular network was developed in this study for rapidly analyzing the chemical components of the Qinggu San reference sample of classical prescription. Firstly, an ACQUITY UPLC BEH Shield RP_(18) column(2.1 mm×100 mm, 1.7 µm)was used, and acetonitrile and 0.1% formic acid were taken as the mobile phases for gradient elution. The flow rate was 0.4 mL·min~(-1), and the column temperature was 30 ℃. Under these conditions, the mass spectrum data were collected in both positive and negative ion modes of the heated electrospray ionization source. Subsequently, the mass spectrum data of the Qinggu San reference sample were uploaded to the Global Natural Products Social Molecular Network(GNPS)platform for calculation and analysis, and a visual molecular network was built with Cytoscape 3.8.2 software. On this basis, the chemical components of the Qinggu San reference sample were identified by fragmentation regularity of standard compounds, retention time, accurate relative molecular weight of HR-MS, characteristic fragment ions information, literature, and databases. Finally, a total of 105 chemical components were identified and speculated in the Qinggu San reference sample, including 19 iridoid glycosides, 23 flavonoids, 15 phenylpropanoids, 11 triterpene saponins, and 37 other components. Meanwhile, two of these components are potential new compounds. The method used in this study not only achieved rapid and accurate identification of chemical components in the Qinggu San reference sample and provided a scie-ntific basis for the study of pharmacological substances and quality control of Qinggu San compound preparations but also provided a refe-rence for the rapid identification of chemical components in traditional Chinese medicine compound preparations.

Efficient light-matter interaction at the single-photon level is of fundamental importance in emerging photonic quantum technology. A fundamental challenge is addressing multiple quantum emitters at once, as intrinsic inhomogeneities of solid-state platforms require individual tuning of each emitter. We present the realization of two semiconductor quantum dot emitters that are efficiently coupled to a photonic-crystal waveguide and individually controllable by applying a local electric Stark field. We present resonant transmission and fluorescence spectra in order to probe the coupling of the two emitters to the waveguide. We exploit the single-photon stream from one quantum dot to perform spectroscopy on the second quantum dot positioned 16 µm away in the waveguide. Furthermore, power-dependent resonant transmission measurements reveal signatures of coherent coupling between the emitters. Our work provides a scalable route to realizing multiemitter collective coupling, which has inherently been missing for solid-state deterministic photon emitters.

PURPOSE: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly vascularized solid carcinoma and tumor vessel-targeted molecular imaging might be effective for early diagnosis of HCC. Herein, we developed a novel trimeric affibody (ZTRI) with highly specific binding to the platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta (PDGFRß). The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of 68Ga-radiolabeled ZTRI ([68Ga]Ga-DOTA-ZTRI) as PET tracer for diagnosis of HCC. METHODS: The bioinformatics analysis of clinical database and immunoblotting of clinical specimens were performed to validate the potential of PDGFRß as HCC biomarker. The trimeric affibody ZTRI was conjugated with DOTA-NHS-ester and radiolabeled with 68Ga to produce [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-ZTRI conjugate. Immunoreactivity and specific uptake of [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-ZTRI were assessed by dose-dependent cell binding, autoradiography, and biodistribution analysis. [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-ZTRI PET/CT scanning of diethylnitrosamine (DEN)-induced primary HCC rats and a rare case of idiopathical HCC rhesus monkey was performed to evaluate the imaging capability and radiation dosimetry of [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-ZTRI in vivo. RESULTS: Excessive PDGFRß was validated as a representative biomarker of HCC neovascularization. The radiolabeling of [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-ZTRI was achieved at more than 95% radiochemical yield. In vitro assays showed specific uptake of [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-ZTRI in HCC tumor vessels by autoradiography. Animal PET/CT imaging with [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-ZTRI successfully visualized the tumor lesions in primary HCC rats and rhesus monkey, and indicated radiation absorbed dose of 2.03E-02 mSv/MBq for each scanning. CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrated that [68Ga]Ga-DOTA-ZTRI conjugate could be applied as a promising PET tracer for early diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Synthetic glycoconjugates as chemical probes have been widely developed for the detection of glycosidase enzymes. However, the binding interactions between iminosugar derivatives and glycosidases were limited, especially for the binding interactions between multivalent glycosidase inhibitors and α-glycosidases. In this paper, three naphthalimide-DNJ conjugates were synthesized. Furthermore, the binding interactions and glycosidase inhibition effects of them were investigated. It was found that the strong binding interactions of multivalent glycosidase inhibitors with enzymes were related to the efficient inhibitory activity against glycosidase. Moreover, the lengths of the chain between DNJ moieties and the triazole ring for the naphthalimide-DNJ conjugates influenced the self-assembly properties, binding interactions and glycosidase inhibition activities with multisource glycosidases. Compound 13 with six carbons between the DNJ moiety and triazole ring showed the stronger binding interactions and better glycosidase inhibition activities against α-mannosidase (jack bean) and α-glucosidase (aspergillus niger). In addition, compound 13 showed an effective PBG inhibition effect in mice with 51.18 % decrease in blood glucose at 30 min. This result opens a way for detection of multivalent glycosidase inhibition effect by a fluorescent sensing method.

OBJECTIVE: The clinical outcome of diffuse sclerosing variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (DSV-PTC) remains controversial. We aimed to determine whether DSV-PTC is associated with an increased risk of persistent/recurrent disease. METHODS: We performed a retrospective cohort study of DSV-PTC and classic variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (CV-PTC) after postoperative radioactive iodine therapy. We used propensity score matching (1:3 matching ratio) to account for differences between the recipients of DSV-PTC and CV-PTC. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to assess the independent factors for persistent/recurrent disease. The Kaplan-Meier curve analyses were used to compare disease-free survival (DFS). RESULTS: In total, 35 (12.7%) patients with DSV-PTC and 240 (87.3%) patients with CV-PTC were included. After propensity score matching, 35 pairs of patients were selected (DSV-PTC, n = 35; CV-PTC, n = 105). In the matched analysis, a higher proportion of patients with DSV-PTC experienced persistent/recurrent disease than that of those with CV-PTC (25.7% vs 5.7%, P = .003). In the multivariate analyses of clinical and tumor characteristics, only the histologic type of DSV-PTC (odds ratio, 6.288; 95% confidence interval, 1.900-20.811; P = .003) was associated with an increased risk of persistent/recurrent disease. The 5-year DFS rates for the DSV-PTC and CV-PTC groups were 69.2% and 93.6%, respectively. The Kaplan-Meier analysis indicated that the DSV-PTC group (P= .001) had shorter DFS. CONCLUSION: This propensity score-matched analysis found that the histologic type of DSV-PTC may increase the risk of persistent/recurrent disease.

Diffuse-type tenosynovial giant cell tumor (D-TSGCT) is a destructive benign tumor-like proliferative disease. Diffuse-type tenosynovial giant cell tumorrarely arises from the axial skeleton. We report a case of image findings of D-TSGCT in the thoracic vertebra. On fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) image, it presented a lytic bone destruction of 6th thoracic vertebra, vertebral processes as well as adjacent sixth rib with intense 18F-FDG uptake. Our case hints another unusual D-TSGCT image characteristic, which should be considered as a differential diagnosis when we interpret similar sign on 18F-FDG PET/CT.

Pericardial inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is very rare. Herein, we report fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) findings of pericardial IMT in a 57-year-old woman. On conventional image, it presented as a pericardial mass with heterogeneous delay enhancement. On 18F-FDG PET/CT image, this lesion had mild 18F-FDG uptake with a maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of 1.84. The postoperative pathology supported a diagnosis of IMT. Our case hints us that IMT should be regarded as a differential diagnosis when we meet a solitary pericardial mass with 18F-FDG uptake.

This study aims to explore the mechanism of Yanghe Decoction(YHD) against subcutaneous tumor in pulmonary metastasis from breast cancer, which is expected to lay a basis for the treatment of breast carcinoma with YHD. The chemical components of medicinals in YHD, and the targets of the components were retrieved from Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform(TCMSP) and SwissTargetPrediction. The disease-related targets were searched from GeneCards and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man(OMIM). Excel was employed to screen the common targets and plot the Venn diagram. The protein-protein interaction network was constructed. R language was used for Gene Ontology(GO) term enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) pathway enrichment. A total of 53 female SPF Bablc/6 mice were randomized into normal group(same volume of normal saline, ig), model group(same volume of normal saline, ig), and low-dose and high-dose YHD groups(YHD, ig, 30 days), with 8 mice in normal group and 15 mice in each of the other groups. Body weight and tumor size was measured every day. Curves for body weight variation and growth of tumor in situ were plotted. In the end, the subcutaneous tumor sample was collected and observed based on hematoxylin and eosin(HE) staining. The mRNA and protein levels of hypoxia inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α), pyruvate kinase M2(PKM2), lactate dehydrogenase A(LDHA), and glucose transporter type 1(GLUT1) were detected by PCR and Western blot. A total of 213 active components of YHD and 185 targets against the disease were screened out. The hypothesis that YHD may regulate glycolysis through HIF-1α signaling pathway to intervene in breast cancer was proposed. Animal experiment confirmed that the mRNA and protein levels of HIF-1α, PKM2, LDHA, and GLUT1 in the high-and low-dose YHD groups were lower than those in the model group. YHD has certain inhibitory effect on subcutaneous tumor in pulmonary metastasis from breast cancer in the early stage, which may intervene pulmonary metastasis from breast cancer by regulating glycolysis through HIF-1α signaling pathway.

Although incorporating multiple halogen (bromine) anions and alkali (rubidium) cations can improve the open-circuit voltage (Voc ) of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), severe voltage loss and poor stability have remained pivotal limitations to their further commercialization. In this study, acetylcholine (ACh+ ) is anchored to the surface of a quadruple-cation perovskite to provide additional electron states near the valence band maximum of the perovskite surface, thereby enhancing the band alignment and minimizing the Voc loss significantly. Moreover, the quaternary ammonium and carbonyl units of ACh+ passivate the antisite and vacancy defects of the organic/inorganic hybrid perovskite. Because of strong interactions between ACh+ and the perovskite, the formation of lead clusters and the migration of halogen anions in the perovskite film are suppressed. As a result, the device prepared with ACh+ post-treatment delivers a power conversion efficiency (PCE) (21.56%) and a value of Voc (1.21 V) that are much higher than those of the pristine device, along with a twofold decrease in the hysteresis index. After storage for 720 h in humid air, the device subjected to ACh+ treatment maintained 70% of its initial PCE. Thus, post-treatment with ACh+ appears to be a useful strategy for preparing efficient and stable PSCs.

OBJECTIVE: Changing insights regarding the extent of surgery for low-risk papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) stir up discussions on the benefits and harms of thyroid lobectomy versus total thyroidectomy. The chance of needing postoperative thyroid hormone supplementation after thyroid lobectomy is still unclear. The purpose of this retrospective two-center study was to identify the incidence and risk factors of postoperative thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) elevation (>2.0 µIU/ml) after thyroid lobectomy for low-risk PTC. DESIGN AND METHODS: Medical records of 201 consecutive patients with low-risk PTC from two tertiary centers who underwent thyroid lobectomy between 2015 and 2019 were retrospectively reviewed. Postoperative thyroid function tests were measured regularly and patients were prescribed levothyroxine if the TSH level was higher than 2.0 µIU/ml. Multivariable regression models were used to evaluate potential risk factors associated with postoperative TSH elevation after thyroid lobectomy. RESULTS: At 6 weeks postoperatively, 85% had TSH level of >2 µIU/ml; this increased to 88% by 3-6 months. Receiver operating characteristic analysis identified preoperative TSH cut-off (>1.7 µIU/ml) to predict postoperative TSH elevation. Multivariate analysis revealed that only a high preoperative TSH level (>1.7 µIU/ml) was an independent risk factor for a postoperative TSH level of >2 µIU/ml (odds ratio = 7.71; p < .001). CONCLUSION: Nearly 90% of the patients who underwent thyroid lobectomy for low-risk PTC had a postoperative TSH level of >2 µIU/ml, necessitating thyroid hormone supplementation in accordance with current guidelines. This finding highlights that preoperative patient counseling should also focus on raising awareness about postoperative thyroid hormone supplementation for low-risk PTC patients seeking thyroid lobectomy.

RESUMEN

Tailored photonics cavities enhance light-matter interactions, ultimately enabling a fully coherent quantum interface. Here, we report an integrated microdisk cavity containing self-assembled quantum dots to coherently route photons between different access waveguides. We measure a Purcell factor of Fexp = 6.9 ± 0.9 for a cavity quality factor of about 10,000, allowing us to observe clear signatures of coherent scattering of photons by the quantum dots. We show how this integrated system can coherently reroute photons between the drop and bus ports and how this routing is controlled by detuning the quantum dot and resonator or through the strength of the excitation beam, where a critical photon number less than one photon per lifetime is required. We discuss the strengths and limitations of this approach, focusing on how the coherent scattering and single-photon nonlinearity can be used to increase the efficiency of quantum devices such as routers or Bell-state analyzers.

RESUMEN

A 79-year-old man with prostate cancer was treated with prostatectomy. He presented with a rising prostate specific antigen (PSA) level of 6.00ng/mL. Gallium-68-prostate-specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography/computed tomography (68Ga-PSMA PET/CT) showed avid PSMA uptake in the posterior wall of the urinary bladder on the early stage (60s post injection; 5min post injection; 10min post injection). However, this lesion was difficult to distinguish because of adjacent physiological urine activity on routine imaging, delayed PET/CT and PET/magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. Our case indicates early dynamic scan is conducive to increasing the rate of detected lesions, especially for the existence of adjacent physiological urine activity disturbance lesions.

RESUMEN

Pseudomyogenic hemangioendothelioma (PMH) presenting with right ventricle and pancreas involvement is very rare. Herein, we reported a 46-year-old man who presented multiple subcutaneous nodules throughout the body for eight months.Fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) revealed multiplehypermetabolic lesions including in the soft tissues, right ventricle and pancreas. Fine needle aspiration of subcutaneous nodule revealed a PMH.

Extensive tumor thrombus and simultaneous pulmonary metastasis in glioma patient is rare. Herein, we reported a 45-year-old woman with extensive tumor thrombus in sagittal sinus and sigmoid sinus with obvious enhancement on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) showed extensive tumor thrombus in sagittal sinus, sigmoid sinus andinternal jugular vein, and simultaneous left hilar lymph node andpulmonary metastasis. Our case demonstrated the value of 18F-FDG PET/CT for correctly identifying tumor thrombus,detecting extent of tumor thrombus and distant metastasis in high grade glioma patients.

OBJECTIVE: Two large randomized trials of patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) reported recently (HiLo and ESTIMABL1) found that the recurrence rate among patients who underwent 1.1 GBq radioactive iodine (RAI) ablation was not higher than that of patients who underwent 3.7 GBq radioactive iodine (RAI) ablation. However, no similar studies have been conducted in China. We aimed to report clinical outcomes in Chinese patients with low/intermediate risk of recurrence DTC after long-term follow-up, and evaluate the risk factors that influence the presence or absence of incomplete response at the final follow-up. DESIGN: A long-term follow-up of a Chinese randomized clinical trial (October 2014 and February 2021) was conducted. PATIENTS: A total of 506 DTC patients at low/intermediate risk of recurrence who were randomized into two groups to receive 1.1 (n = 251) or 3.7 GBq (n = 255) RAI ablation following thyroid hormone withdrawal were followed on levothyroxine treatment for a median of 4.5 years (range: 1.6-6.3). MEASUREMENTS: Suppressed serum thyroglobulin (Tg) and anti-thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) levels were determined, and neck ultrasonography was performed. RESULTS: At the final follow-up, 499 (98.6%) patients showed an excellent response. The other seven patients (two patients underwent 1.1 GBq and five patients underwent 3.7 GBq RAI ablation, respectively) showed either structural incomplete response (lymph node metastasis, n = 1), biochemical incomplete response (increased serum Tg ≥ 1 ng/ml, or increased positive TgAb levels, n = 5), or indeterminate response (stable positive TgAb levels, n = 1). The risk of incomplete response at the final follow-up was significantly increased in patients with stimulated serum Tg ≥ 10 ng/ml at ablation (p = .003) and in patients with unsuccessful ablation (p = .008). CONCLUSION: Our findings indicated that there was no difference in the long-term outcomes with RAI ablation using either 1.1 or 3.7 GBq in patients with low/intermediate risk of recurrence DTC, and 1.1 GBq RAI might be suitable for patients who are recommended for ablation.
