RESUMEN

Nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA), the most severe manifestation of male infertility, lacks a comprehensive understanding of its genetic etiology. Here, a bi-allelic loss-of-function variant in REC114 (c.568C > T: p.Gln190*) were identified through whole exome sequencing (WES) in a Chinese NOA patient. Testicular histopathological analysis and meiotic chromosomal spread analysis were conducted to assess the stage of spermatogenesis arrested. Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) and Western blot (WB) were used to investigate the influence of variant in vitro. In addition, our results revealed that the variant resulted in truncated REC114 protein and impaired interaction with MEI4, which was essential for meiotic DNA double-strand break (DSB) formation. As far as we know, this study presents the first report that identifies REC114 as the causative gene for male infertility. Furthermore, our study demonstrated indispensability of the REC114-MEI4 complex in maintaining DSB homoeostasis, and highlighted that the disruption of the complex due to the REC114 variant may underline the mechanism of NOA.

Value chain collaboration management is an effective means for enterprises to reduce costs and increase efficiency to enhance competitiveness. Vertical and horizontal collaboration have received much attention, but the current collaboration model combining the two is weak in terms of task assignment and node collaboration constraints in the whole production-distribution process. Therefore, in the enterprise dynamic alliance, this paper models the MVC (multi-value-chain) collaboration process for the optimization needs of the MVC collaboration network in production-distribution and other aspects. Then a MVC collaboration network optimization model is constructed with the lowest total production-distribution cost as the optimization objective and with the delivery cycle and task quantity as the constraints. For the high-dimensional characteristics of the decision space in the multi-task, multi-production end, multi-distribution end, and multi-level inventory production-distribution scenario, a genetic algorithm is used to solve the MVC collaboration network optimization model and solve the problem of difficult collaboration of MVC collaboration network nodes by adjusting the constraints among genes. In view of the multi-level characteristics of the production-distribution scenario, two chromosome coding methods are proposed: staged coding and integrated coding. Moreover, an algorithm ERGA (enhanced roulette genetic algorithm) is proposed with enhanced elite retention based on a SGA (simple genetic algorithm). The comparative experiment results of SGA, SEGA (strengthen elitist genetic algorithm), ERGA, and the analysis of the population evolution process show that ERGA is superior to SGA and SEGA in terms of time cost and optimization results through the reasonable combination of coding methods and selection operators. Furthermore, ERGA has higher generality and can be adapted to solve MVC collaboration network optimization models in different production-distribution environments.

BACKGROUND: The genetic causes of human idiopathic non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) with meiotic arrest remain unclear. METHODS: Two Chinese families with infertility participated in the study. In family 1, two brothers were affected by idiopathic NOA. In family 2, the proband was diagnosed with idiopathic NOA, and his elder sister suffered from infertility. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) was conducted in the two patients in family 1, the proband in family 2 and 362 additional sporadic patients with idiopathic NOA. Sanger sequencing was used to verify the WES results. Periodic acid-Schiff (PAS), immunohistochemistry (IHC) and meiotic chromosomal spread analyses were carried out to evaluate the stage of spermatogenesis arrested in the affected cases. RESULTS: We identified compound heterozygous loss of function (LoF) variants of SHOC1 (c.C1582T:p.R528X and c.231_232del:p.L78Sfs*9, respectively) in both affected cases with NOA from family 1. In family 2, homozygous LoF variant in SHOC1 (c.1194delA:p.L400Cfs*7) was identified in the siblings with infertility. PAS, IHC and meiotic chromosomal spread analyses demonstrated that the spermatogenesis was arrested at zygotene stage in the three patients with NOA. Consistent with the autosomal recessive mode of inheritance, all of these SHOC1 variants were inherited from heterozygous parental carriers. Intriguingly, WES of 362 sporadic NOA cases revealed one additional NOA case with a bi-allelic SHOC1 LoF variant (c.1464delT:p.D489Tfs*13). CONCLUSION: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report identifying SHOC1 as the causative gene for human NOA. Furthermore, our study showed an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance in the NOA caused by SHOC1 deficiency.

Compared with traditional physical commodities, data are intangible and easy to leak, and the related trading process has problems, such as complex participating roles, lengthy information flow, poor supervisory coverage and difficult information traceability. To handle these problems, we construct a distributed supervision model for data trading based on blockchain, and conduct multi-party hierarchical and multi-dimensional supervision of the whole process of data trading through collaborative supervision before the event, at present and after the event. First, the characteristics of information flow in the data trading process are analyzed, and the main subject and key supervision information in the data trading process are sorted out and refined. Secondly, combined with the actual business process of data trading supervision, a multi-channel structure of distributed supervision is proposed by adopting an access-verification-traceability strategy. Finally, under the logical framework of the supervision model, the on-chain hierarchical structure and the data hybrid storage method of "on-chain + off-chain" are designed, and multi-supervisor-oriented hierarchical supervision and post-event traceability are realized through smart contracts. The results show that the constructed blockchain-based distributed supervision model of data trading can effectively isolate and protect sensitive and private information between data trading, so as to realize the whole process, multi-subject and differentiated supervision of key information of data trading, and provide an effective and feasible method for the controllable and safe supervision of data trading.

RESUMEN

The ability of the brain to predict future events based on the pattern of recent sensory experience is critical for guiding animal's behavior. Neocortical circuits for ongoing processing of sensory stimuli are extensively studied, but their contributions to the anticipation of upcoming sensory stimuli remain less understood. We, therefore, used in vivo cellular imaging and fiber photometry to record mouse primary auditory cortex to elucidate its role in processing anticipated stimulation. We found neuronal ensembles in layers 2/3, 4, and 5 which were activated in relationship to anticipated sound events following rhythmic stimulation. These neuronal activities correlated with the occurrence of anticipatory motor responses in an auditory learning task. Optogenetic manipulation experiments revealed an essential role of such neuronal activities in producing the anticipatory behavior. These results strongly suggest that the neural circuits of primary sensory cortex are critical for coding predictive information and transforming it into anticipatory motor behavior.

A drug-drug interaction (DDI) trial of cytochrome P450 3A (CYP3A) is a necessary part of early-phase trials of drugs mainly metabolized by this enzyme, but CYP3A DDI clinical trials do not have a standard design, especially for Chinese people. We aimed to offer specific recommendations for CYP3A DDI clinical trial design. This was an open, three-cycle, self-controlled study. Healthy subjects were given different administration strategies of CYP3A4 perpetrators. In each cycle, blood samples were collected before and within 24 h after the administration of midazolam, the CYP3A indicator substrate. The plasma concentrations of midazolam and 1-hydroxymidazolam was obtained using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry assay. For CYP3A inhibition, itraconazole exposure with a loading dose could increase the exposure of midazolam by 3.21-fold based on maximum plasma concentration (Cmax), 8.37-fold based on area under the curve Pharmacology Research & Perspectives for review only from zero to the time point (AUC0-t), and 11.22-fold based on area under the curve from zero to infinity (AUC0-∞). The data were similar for itraconazole pretreatment without a loading dose. For CYP3A induction, the exposure of rifampin for 7 days decreased the plasma concentration of midazolam ~0.27-fold based on Cmax, ~0.18-fold based on AUC0-t, and ~0.18-fold based on AUC0-∞. Midazolam exposure did not significantly change when the pretreatment of rifampin increased to 14 days. This study showed that itraconazole pretreatment for 3 days without a loading dose was enough for CYP3A inhibition, and pretreatment with rifampin for 7 days could induce near-maximal CYP3A levels.

Stepwise mini-incision microdissection testicular sperm extraction (mTESE) is a procedure that attempts to minimize testicular damage. However, the mini-incision approach may vary in patients with different etiologies. Here, we performed a retrospective analysis of 665 men with nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) who underwent stepwise mini-incision mTESE (Group 1) and 365 men who underwent standard mTESE (Group 2). The results showed that the operation time (mean ± standard deviation) for patients with successful sperm retrieval in Group 1 (64.0 ± 26.6 min) was significantly shorter than that in Group 2 (80.2 ± 31.3 min), with P <0.001. The total sperm retrieval rate (SRR) was 23.1% in our study, and there was no significant difference between Group 1 and Group 2 ( P >0.05), even when the etiologies of NOA were taken into consideration. The results of consecutive multivariate logistic regression analysis (odds ratio [OR]: 0.57; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.38-0.87; P =0.009) and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis (area under the ROC curve [AUC]=0.628) showed that preoperative anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) level in idiopathic NOA patients was a potential predictor for surgical outcomes after initial three small incisions made in the equatorial region without sperm examined under an operating microscope (Steps 2-4). In conclusion, stepwise mini-incision mTESE is a useful technique for NOA patients, with comparable SRR, less surgical invasiveness, and shorter operation time compared with the standard approach. Low AMH levels may predict successful sperm retrieval in idiopathic patients even after a failed initial mini-incision procedure.

The ability to form predictions based on recent sensory experience is essential for behavioral adaptation to our ever-changing environment. Predictive encoding represented by neuronal activity has been observed in sensory cortex, but how this neuronal activity is transformed into anticipatory motor behavior remains unclear. Fiber photometry to investigate a corticostriatal projection from the auditory cortex to the posterior striatum during an auditory paradigm in mice, and pharmacological experiments in a task that induces a temporal expectation of upcoming sensory stimuli. We find that the auditory corticostriatal projection relays both sound-evoked stimulus information as well as predictive signals in relation to stimulus timing following rhythmic auditory stimulation. Pharmacological experiments suggest that this projection is required for the initiation of both sound-evoked and anticipatory licking behavior in an auditory associative-learning behavioral task, but not for the general recognition of presented auditory stimuli. This auditory corticostriatal projection carries predictive signals, and the posterior striatum is critical to the anticipatory stimulus-driven motor behavior.

Neocortical layer 6 (L6) is less understood than other more superficial layers, largely owing to limitations of performing high-resolution investigations in vivo. Here, we show that labeling with the Challenge Virus Standard (CVS) rabies virus strain enables high-quality imaging of L6 neurons by conventional two-photon microscopes. CVS virus injection into the medial geniculate body can selectively label L6 neurons in the auditory cortex. Only three days after injection, dendrites and cell bodies of L6 neurons could be imaged across all cortical layers. Ca2+ imaging in awake mice showed that sound stimulation evokes neuronal responses from cell bodies with minimal contamination from neuropil signals. In addition, dendritic Ca2+ imaging revealed significant responses from spines and trunks across all layers. These results demonstrate a reliable method capable of rapid, high-quality labeling of L6 neurons that can be readily extended to other brain regions.

ABSTRACT: The regulation of spermatogonial proliferation and apoptosis is of great significance for maintaining spermatogenesis. The single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis of the testis was performed to identify genes upregulated in spermatogonia. Using scRNA-seq analysis, we identified the spermatogonia upregulated gene origin recognition complex subunit 6 (Orc6), which is involved in DNA replication and cell cycle regulation; its protein expression in the human and mouse testis was detected by western blot and immunofluorescence. To explore the potential function of Orc6 in spermatogonia, the C18-4 cell line was transfected with control or Orc6 siRNA. Subsequently, 5-ethynyl-2-deoxyuridine (EdU) and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assays, flow cytometry, and western blot were used to evaluate its effects on proliferation and apoptosis. It was revealed that ORC6 could promote proliferation and inhibit apoptosis of C18-4 cells. Bulk RNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis indicated that Orc6 was involved in the activation of wingless/integrated (Wnt)/ ß-catenin signaling. Western blot revealed that the expression of ß-catenin protein and its phosphorylation (Ser675) were significantly decreased when silencing the expression of ORC6. Our findings indicated that Orc6 was upregulated in spermatogonia, whereby it regulated proliferation and apoptosis by activating Wnt/ß-catenin signaling.

The sensory neocortex has been suggested to be a substrate for long-term memory storage, yet which exact single cells could be specific candidates underlying such long-term memory storage remained neither known nor visible for over a century. Here, using a combination of day-by-day two-photon Ca2+ imaging and targeted single-cell loose-patch recording in an auditory associative learning paradigm with composite sounds in male mice, we reveal sparsely distributed neurons in layer 2/3 of auditory cortex emerged step-wise from quiescence into bursting mode, which then invariably expressed holistic information of the learned composite sounds, referred to as holistic bursting (HB) cells. Notably, it was not shuffled populations but the same sparse HB cells that embodied the behavioral relevance of the learned composite sounds, pinpointing HB cells as physiologically-defined single-cell candidates of an engram underlying long-term memory storage in auditory cortex.

BACKGROUND: The novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the infection of a novel coronavirus known as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which has resulted in millions of deaths. We aimed to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine (CS-2034, CanSino, Shanghai, China) in adults without COVID-19 infection from China. METHOD: This is a multicenter Phase I clinical trial with a randomized, double-blinded, dose-exploration, placebo-controlled design. The trial recruited 40 seronegative participants aged 18-59 years who had neither received any COVID-19 vaccine nor been infected before. They were divided into a low-dose group (administered with either the CS-2034 vaccine containing 30 µg of mRNA or a placebo of 0.3 ml type 5 adenovirus vector) and a high-dose group (administered with either the CS-2034 vaccine containing 50 µg of mRNA or a placebo of 0.5 ml type 5 adenovirus vector). Participants were randomly assigned in a 3:1 ratio to receive either the mRNA vaccine or a placebo on days 0 and 21 according to a two-dose immunization schedule. The first six participants in each dosage group were assigned as sentinel subjects. Participants were sequentially enrolled in a dose-escalation manner from low to high dose and from sentinel to non-sentinel subjects. Blood samples were collected from all participants on the day before the first dose (Day 0), the day before the second dose (day 21), 14 days after the second dose (day 35), and 28 days after the second dose (day 49) to evaluate the immunogenicity of the CS-2034 vaccine. Participants were monitored for safety throughout the 28-day follow-up period, including solicited adverse events, unsolicited adverse events, adverse events of special interest (AESI), and medically attended adverse events (MAE). This report focuses solely on the safety and immunogenicity analysis of adult participants aged 18-59 years, while the long-term phase of the study is still ongoing. This study is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT05373485. FINDINGS: During the period from May 17, 2022, to August 8, 2022, a total of 155 participants aged 18-59 years were screened for this study. Among them, 115 participants failed the screening process, and 40 participants were randomly enrolled (15 in the low-dose group, 15 in the high-dose group, and 10 in the placebo group). Throughout the 28-day follow-up period, the overall incidence of adverse reactions (related to vaccine administration) in the low-dose group, high-dose group, and placebo group was 93.33% (14/15), 100.00% (15/15), and 80.00% (8/10), respectively. There was a statistically significant difference in the incidence of local adverse reactions (soreness, pruritus, swelling at the injection site) among the low-dose group, high-dose group, and placebo group (P = 0.002). All adverse reactions were mainly of severity grade 1 (mild) or 2 (moderate), and no adverse events of severity grade 4 or higher occurred. Based on the analysis of Spike protein Receptor Binding Domain (S-RBD) IgG antibodies against the BA.1 strain, the seroconversion rates of antibodies at day 21 after the first dose were 86.67%, 93.33%, and 0.00% in the low-dose group, high-dose group, and placebo group, respectively. The geometric mean titer (GMT) of antibodies was 61.2(95%CI 35.3-106.2), 55.4(95%CI 36.3-84.4), and 15.0(95%CI 15.0-15.0), and the geometric mean fold increase (GMI) was 4.08(95%CI 2.35-7.08), 3.69(95%CI 2.42-5.63), and 1.00(95%CI 1.00-1.00) for each group. At day 28 after the full vaccination, the seroconversion rates of antibodies were 100.00%, 93.33%, and 0.00%, and the GMT of antibodies was 810.0(95%CI 511.4-1283.0), 832.2(95%CI 368.1-1881.6), and 15.0(95%CI 15.0-15.0), and the GMI was 54.00(95%CI 34.09-85.53), 55.48(95%CI 24.54-125.44), and 1.00(95%CI 1.00-1.00) for each group, respectively. Based on the analysis of CD3+/CD4+ cell cytokine response, the percentages of IL-2+, IL-4+, IFN-γ+, and TNF-α+ cells increased after 14 days and 28 days of full vaccination in both the low-dose group and high-dose group. The increase was most pronounced in the high-dose group. INTERPRETATION: At day 28 after the full vaccination, both the low-dose and the high-dose CS-2034 vaccine were able to induce the production of high titers of S-RBD IgG antibodies against the BA.1 strain. Adverse reactions in the low-dose and high-dose groups were mainly of severity grade 1 or 2, and no trial-limiting safety concerns were identified. These findings support further development of this vaccine.

Automatic segmentation of infected lesions from computed tomography (CT) of COVID-19 patients is crucial for accurate diagnosis and follow-up assessment. The remaining challenges are the obvious scale difference between different types of COVID-19 lesions and the similarity between the lesions and normal tissues. This work aims to segment lesions of different scales and lesion boundaries correctly by utilizing multiscale and multilevel features. A novel multiscale dilated convolutional network (MSDC-Net) is proposed against the scale difference of lesions and the low contrast between lesions and normal tissues in CT images. In our MSDC-Net, we propose a multiscale feature capture block (MSFCB) to effectively capture multiscale features for better segmentation of lesions at different scales. Furthermore, a multilevel feature aggregate (MLFA) module is proposed to reduce the information loss in the downsampling process. Experiments on the publicly available COVID-19 CT Segmentation dataset demonstrate that the proposed MSDC-Net is superior to other existing methods in segmenting lesion boundaries and large, medium, and small lesions, and achieves the best results in Dice similarity coefficient, sensitivity and mean intersection-over-union (mIoU) scores of 82.4%, 81.1% and 78.2%, respectively. Compared with other methods, the proposed model has an average improvement of 10.6% and 11.8% on Dice and mIoU. Compared with the existing methods, our network achieves more accurate segmentation of lesions at various scales and lesion boundaries, which will facilitate further clinical analysis. In the future, we consider integrating the automatic detection and segmentation of COVID-19, and conduct research on the automatic diagnosis system of COVID-19.

RESUMEN

Omnichannel sales surge in the coronavirus pandemic. This paper establishes an analytical model to study when a firm can benefit from implementing the omnichannel strategy of buy-online and pick-up in-store (BOPS), where the market characteristics are captured by the two-dimensional heterogeneity of product valuation and online waiting cost. The increase in the store visiting cost will reduce BOPS consumers' willingness to pay, but it will also strengthen the encroachment of BOPS on traditional dual-channel. The results show that the firm can benefit from the BOPS strategy when the store visiting cost is relatively high. This well explains the rapid development of the omnichannel with BOPS because of a high store visiting cost during COVID-19. Furthermore, sharply contrasting to the traditional dual-channel sales in which a higher store visiting cost always hurts the firm, the profit under BOPS can be nonmonotonic in the store visiting cost and the firm can benefit from a higher store visiting cost. Specifically, the combination of cross-selling effect, BOPS encroachment effect and BOPS expansion reduction effect associated with the store visiting cost can result in a U-shaped or inverse U-shaped BOPS profit. In addition, introducing BOPS motivates the firm to either increase or decrease the optimal price, conditional on the store visiting cost. For consumers, online and offline consumers can also indirectly benefit from the BOPS strategy, though they may not enjoy the BOPS service.

Introduction: Oligoasthenoteratozoospermia (OAT) is a major cause of infertility in males. Only a few pathogenic genes of OAT have been clearly identified till now. A large number of OAT-affected cases remain largely unknown. Methods: Here, Whole-exome sequencing (WES) in 725 idiopathic OAT patients was performed. Ejaculated spermatozoa by OAT patients were microinjected into mouse oocytes to estimate fertilization potential. Diff-quick staining and transmission electron microscopy were performed to evaluate sperm morphology and ultrastructure. The protein expression level and localization In vitro were detected by Western Blotting and Immunocytochemistry. Results: We identified four X-linked hemizygous deleterious variants of TAF7L-namely, c.1301_1302del;(p.V434Afs*5), c.699G>T;(p.R233S), c.508delA; (p. T170fs), c.719dupA;(p.K240fs) -in five probands. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) were carried out in M1, M2-1and M3 patient's wife. However only M1 patient's wife became pregnant after embryo transfer. In vitro study demonstrated significantly reduced fertilization ability in patient with TAF7L mutation. The TAF7L mutation let to abnormal sperm head and impaired histone-to protamine exchange. Variant 719dupA (p. K240fs) resulted in producing a truncated TAF7L protein and localized massively within the nucleus. In addition, TAF7L expression were not able to be detected due to variants c.1301_1302del (p. V434Afs*5) and c.508delA (p. T170fs) In vitro. Conclusion: Our findings support that TAF7L is one of pathogenic genes of OAT and deleterious mutations in TAF7L may cause impaired histone-to-protamine affected the chromatin compaction of sperm head.

Astrocytic Ca2+ transients are essential for astrocyte integration into neural circuits. These Ca2+ transients are primarily sequestered in subcellular domains, including primary branches, branchlets and leaflets, and endfeet. In previous studies, it suggests that aging causes functional defects in astrocytes. Until now, it was unclear whether and how aging affects astrocytic Ca2+ transients at subcellular domains. In this study, we combined a genetically encoded Ca2+ sensor (GCaMP6f) and in vivo two-photon Ca2+ imaging to determine changes in Ca2+ transients within astrocytic subcellular domains during brain aging. We showed that aging increased Ca2+ transients in astrocytic primary branches, higher-order branchlets, and terminal leaflets. However, Ca2+ transients decreased within astrocytic endfeet during brain aging, which could be caused by the decreased expressions of Aquaporin-4 (AQP4). In addition, aging-induced changes of Ca2+ transient types were heterogeneous within astrocytic subcellular domains. These results demonstrate that the astrocytic Ca2+ transients within subcellular domains are affected by aging differently. This finding contributes to a better understanding of the physiological role of astrocytes in aging-induced neural circuit degeneration.

Neurostimulant drugs or magnetic/electrical stimulation techniques can overcome attention deficits, but these drugs or techniques are weakly beneficial in boosting the learning capabilities of healthy subjects. Here, we report a stimulation technique, mid-infrared modulation (MIM), that delivers mid-infrared light energy through the opened skull or even non-invasively through a thinned intact skull and can activate brain neurons in vivo without introducing any exogeneous gene. Using c-Fos immunohistochemistry, in vivo single-cell electrophysiology and two-photon Ca2+ imaging in mice, we demonstrate that MIM significantly induces firing activities of neurons in the targeted cortical area. Moreover, mice that receive MIM targeting to the auditory cortex during an auditory associative learning task exhibit a faster learning speed (~50% faster) than control mice. Together, this non-invasive, opsin-free MIM technique is demonstrated with potential for modulating neuronal activity.

Memory persistence is a fundamental cognitive process for guiding behaviors and is considered to rely mostly on neuronal and synaptic plasticity. Whether and how astrocytes contribute to memory persistence is largely unknown. Here, by using two-photon Ca2+ imaging in head-fixed mice and fiber photometry in freely moving mice, we show that aversive sensory stimulation activates α7-nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in a subpopulation of astrocytes in the auditory cortex. We demonstrate that fear learning causes the de novo induction of sound-evoked Ca2+ transients in these astrocytes. The astrocytic responsiveness persisted over days along with fear memory and disappeared in animals that underwent extinction of learned freezing behavior. Conditional genetic deletion of α7-nAChRs in astrocytes significantly impaired fear memory persistence. We conclude that learning-acquired, α7-nAChR-dependent astrocytic responsiveness is an integral part of the cellular substrate underlying memory persistence.

RESUMEN

A novel m energy functions method is adopted to analyze the retrieval property of continuous-time asymmetric Hopfield neural networks. Sufficient conditions for the local and global asymptotic stability of the network are proposed. Moreover, an efficient systematic procedure for designing asymmetric networks is proposed, and a given set of states can be assigned as locally asymptotically stable equilibrium points. Simulation examples show that the asymmetric network can act as an efficient associative memory, and it is almost free from spurious memory problem.

RESUMEN

The retrieval properties of the asymmetric Hopfield neural networks (AHNNs) with discrete-time dynamics are studied in this paper. It is shown that the asymmetry degree is an important factor influencing the network dynamics. Furthermore, a strategy for designing AHNNs of different sparsities is proposed. Numerical simulations show that AHNNs can perform as well as symmetric ones, and the diluted AHNNs have the virtues of small wiring cost and high pattern recognition quality.
