RESUMEN

ZnO p-n homojunction light-emitting devices (LEDs) have been fabricated, and by introducing a p-type GaN as the hole-injection layer, the output power of the LEDs can reach 18.5 µW when the drive current is 60 mA, which is almost three orders of magnitude larger than the pristine LEDs without the hole-injection layer. The improved performance can be attributed to the extra holes injected into the p-ZnO layer from the p-GaN hole-injection layer.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe the proliferation changes of the side population of gastric cancer cell line SGC-7901 cells (SP), the non-side population (NSP) cells, and unsorted cells (Total) after intervened by Sijunzi Decoction (SD) containing serum. METHODS: Sixteen pure bred New Zealand rabbits were equally divided into the normal control group, the low dose SD group (at the daily dose of 7 mL/kg), the middle dose SD group (at the daily dose of 14 mL/kg), and the high dose SD group (at the daily dose of 28 mL/kg) according to the random digit table. Rabbits' serum was extracted after equal volume of corresponding medication was given by gastrogavage twice daily for 2 consecutive weeks. The drug serum was identified using high performance liquid chromatography. SP cells of SGC-7901 were detected using flow cytometry, SP and NSP cells were screened. The proliferation curve of SP, NSP, and Total cells were detected with CCK-8 assay. Changes of their proliferation were also observed. RESULTS: Ginsenoside Rg1, an effective ingredient in SD was detected in prepared drug serum. The proliferation of SGC-7901 SP cells was significantly higher than that of NSP cells and Total cells (P < 0.05). Drug serum on gastric cancer cell line SGC-7901 SP, NSP, and Total cells could inhibit their proliferation, but its inhibition on SP cells' proliferation was significantly lower than on NSP and Total cells (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: SD could significantly inhibit the proliferation of gastric cancer cell line SGC-7901 SP, NSP, and Total cells. But there exist obvious difference in the inhibition among the three groups.

RESUMEN

Improvement of soil quality is one of the most important ways to enhance fertility for efficient dryland crop production. However, the effects of different fertilization measurements with film mulched ridge-furrow tillage on soil fertility, crop yield, and water use efficiency (WUE) of maize largely remain unknown. A three-year field experiment was conducted at the Zhuanglang Experimental Station, Gansu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, located in the semiarid region of the Loess Plateau, Northwest China during 2014-2016. Maize breed Funong No.1 was used during the study. There were four treatments, including: 1) conventional planting (CP, served as control), 2) film mulched ridge-furrow with straw incorporation (FS), 3) film mulched ridge-furrow with optimizing fertilization (FF), and 4) film mulched ridge-furrow with controlled fertilization (FC). Seasonal and yearly changes of soil water content, topsoil organic matter (SOM), soil available nitrogen (AN), phosphorus (AP) and potassium (AK) concentration and crop yield were measured. Nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer partial factor productivity (PFPN and PFPP), soil profile water storage (WC), crop seasonal water consumption (ET) and water use efficiency (WUE) were calculated. The results showed that FS, FF and FC effectively improved soil fertility via synergistic regulation of soil hydrothermal and nutritional condition. Water-fertilizer interaction effect greatly enhanced incorporated straw decomposition and crop growth, resulting in more returning of straw nutrients and crop biomass to soil, thus significantly increased soil water and fertilizer supply capacity. Compared to CP, the three treatments of FS, FF and FC efficiently increased the concentrations of SOM, AN, AP, and AK by 0.27 g·kg-1, 4.44 mg·kg-1, 0.20 mg·kg-1 and 4.53 mg·kg-1 with an order of FC>FF>FS, but had no significant difference among them. Meanwhile, in contrast to pre-sowing WC200, the three year's sum of FS,FF and FC increased WC200 at the end of growing season by 107.41, 38.99 and 28.35 mm, respectively. On average, FS, FC and FF significantly reduced maize ET by 60.50, 37.7 and 34.15 mm to CP, with a relative decrease of 12.6%, 7.9% and 7.1% respectively. By the synergistic effect of modified water and fertilizer environment, the three soil fertility improvement strategies greatly enhanced maize growth from tasseling to maturity stages in the relatively dry year. They affected maize growth in relatively more rain and warmer year, resulting in significantly increased maize yield by improving the yield traits (double ear rate, grain number per ear and 100-grain mass), PFPN, PFPP and WUE. Compared to CP, the PFPN,PFPP of FS, FF and FC increased by 1.82, 1.65, 1.62 and 2.41, 1.69, 1.63 times respectively. Yield and WUE were increased by 5986.1, 4972.31, 4585.63 kg·hm-2 and 13.27, 12.65, 14.01 kg·mm-1·hm-2 correspondingly raised by 81.5%, 67.7%, 62.5% and 86.5%, 82.5%, 91.3%. In conclusion, FS was more effective in water harvesting and drought resistance, while FC and FF were effective for high yield.

RESUMEN

Macroangiopathy is a major complication of diabetes mellitus in which dysfunction of vascular endothelium induced by excessive oxidative stress is an early and key determinant. As an endogenous antioxidant, taurine possesses endothelial protective effect in vitro. LOX-1 is an endothelial receptor for oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) which might mediate endothelial dysfunction and subsequent atherogenesis in diabetes. We used streptozotocin-induced rats as models of type 1 diabetes to evaluate the protective effect of taurine against vascular endothelial dysfunction in type 1 diabetes and the possibly involved molecule mechanism. Eight male Wistar rats were used as normal control group. Sixteen diabetic rats induced by one single injection of streptozocin (60 mg/kg, i.p.) were randomly divided into two groups after the diabetes onset: diabetes mellitus group and taurine-treated diabetes group. 6 weeks afterward, endothelium-dependent vasodilation of isolated thoracic aorta, serum oxLDL and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule (sICAM-l) levels, LOX-1 and intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM-1) expression on aortas were determined respectively. Streptozocin-induced diabetic rats were complicated with excessive oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction: increased serum oxLDL and sICAM-1, inhibited endothelium-dependent vasodilator responses to acetylcholine (1 nM-0.1 microM). Simultaneously, LOX-1 and ICAM-1 expression were enhanced in aortas of diabetic rats; whereas blunted endothelium-dependent vasodilator responses to acetylcholine, increased serum oxLDL and sICAM-1 level as well as overexpression of LOX-1 and ICAM-1 were all attenuated significantly by taurine treatment. In conclusion, taurine improves vascular endothelial dysfunction induced by experimental type 1 diabetes and this effect might be associated with downregulation of LOX-1 and ICAM-1 expression on aortic vascular endothelium via its antioxidative property.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To explore the delayed neuroprotection induced by paeoniflorin (PF), the principal component of Paeoniae radix prescribed in Chinese medicine, and its underlying mechanisms in rats subjected to vascular dementia (VD). METHODS: A rat model of VD was induced by bilateral common carotid arteries occlusion (BCCAO). Low-dose or high-dose PF (20 or 40 mg/kg once per day) was administrated for 28 days after VD. The behavioral analysis of rat was measured by water morris. Regional cerebral blood volume (rCBV), regional cerebral blood flflow (rCBF) and mean transit time (MTT) were measured in the bilateral hippocampus by perfusion-weighted imaging (PWI). The levels of interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) were measured by commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. Protein levels were evaluated by western blot analysis. mRNA levels were evaluated by real time-polymerase chain reaction. Western blotting was used to estimate p65 translocation. RESULTS: The behavioral analysis showed that PF could decrease the escape latency time (P<0.05), and increase the residence time of the original platform quadrant and the across platform frequency in water maze in VD rats (P<0.05). Likewise, PF remarkably promoted the rCBV (P<0.05), rCBF and decreased per minute MTT (P<0.05) in hippocampus of VD rats. Furthermore, PF decreased the release of IL-1ß, IL-6 and TNF-α as well as inhibited the mRNA expression of IL-1ß, IL-6 and TNF-α in the hippocampus of VD rats (P<0.05 or P<0.01). PF also could decrease the protein expressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2 in the hippocampus of VD rats (P<0.05 or P<0.01). In addition, PF signifificantly inhibited the nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) pathway in the hippocampus of VD rats. CONCLUSIONS: PF signifificantly attenuates cognitive impairment, improves hippocampus perfusion and inhibits inflflammatory response in VD rats. In addition, the anti-inflflammatory effects of PF might be due to inhibiting the NF-κB pathway. PF may be a potential clinical application in improving VD.

RESUMEN

Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (CZTSSe) films were deposited on the Mo-coated glass substrates, and the CZTSSe-based solar cells were successfully fabricated by a facile solution method and postselenization technique. The influencing mechanisms of the selenization temperature and time on the power conversion efficiency (PCE), short-circuit current density (Jsc), open-circuit voltage (Voc), and fill factor (FF) of the solar cell are systematically investigated by studying the change of the shunt conductance (Gsh), series resistance (Rs), diode ideal factor (n), and reversion saturation current density (J0) with structure and crystal quality of the CZTSSe film and CZTSSe/Mo interface selenized at various temperatures and times. It is found that a Mo(S1-x,Sex)2 (MSSe) layer with hexagonal structure exists at the CZTSSe/Mo interface at the temperature of 500 °C, and its thickness increases with increasing selenization temperature and time. The MSSe has a smaller effect on the Rs, but it has a larger influence on the Gsh, n, and J0. The PCE, Voc, and FF change dominantly with Gsh, n, and J0, while Jsc changes with Rs and Gsh, but not Rs. These results suggest that the effect of the selenization temperature and time on the PCE is dominantly contributed to the change of the CZTSSe/CdS p-n junction and CZTSSe/MSSe interface induced by variation of the quality of the CZTSSe film and thickness of MSSe in the selenization process. By optimizing the selenization temperature and time, the highest PCE of 7.48% is obtained.
