OBJECTIVES: Early diagnosis of inborn errors of metabolism (IEM) is crucial to ensure early detection of conditions which are treatable. This study reports on targeted metabolomic procedures for the diagnosis of IEM of amino acids, acylcarnitines, creatine/guanidinoacetate, purines/pyrimidines and oligosaccharides, and describes its validation through external quality assessment schemes (EQA). METHODS: Analysis was performed on a Waters ACQUITY UPLC H-class system coupled to a Waters Xevo triple-quadrupole (TQD) mass spectrometer, operating in both positive and negative electrospray ionization mode. Chromatographic separation was performed on a CORTECS C18 column (2.1 × 150, 1.6 µm). Data were collected by multiple reaction monitoring. RESULTS: The internal and EQA results were generally adequate, with a few exceptions. We calculated the relative measurement error (RME) and only a few metabolites displayed a RME higher than 30 % (asparagine and some acylcarnitine species). For oligosaccharides, semi-quantitative analysis of an educational panel clearly identified the 8 different diseases included. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, we have validated our analytical system through an external quality control assessment. This validation will contribute to harmonization between laboratories, thus improving identification and management of patients with IEM.

BACKGROUND: The goal of this study was to develop and validate a UPLC-MS/MS method for simultaneous mea-surement of 13 AEDs, including carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, topiramate, primidone, zonisamide, gabapentin, lacosamide, perampanel, pregabalin, rufinamide, and vigabatrin, in whole blood samples. METHODS: A UPLC-MS/MS method for simultaneous determination of 13 AEDs in whole blood was developed, and validation was conducted for accuracy, precision, limit of quantification (LOQ), matrix effect, and stability. Our method was compared to two different hospitals using UPLC-MS/MS. RESULTS: All AEDs exhibited linearity across the AMR (analytical measurement range), with R2 values ranging from 0.994 to 1.000. The imprecision and inaccuracy for low and high quality control (QC) levels were within an acceptable range, with the coefficient of variation (CV) < 15%. The LOQ was 0.62 µg/mL for carbamazepine, 1.61 µg/mL for oxcarbazepine, 1.30 µg/mL for lamotrigine, 13.20 µg/mL for levetiracetam, 1.26 µg/mL for topira-mate, 1.01 µg/mL for primidone, 1.59 µg/mL for zonisamide, 1.09 µg/mL for lacosamide, 1.61 µg/mL for gabapentin, 0.50 µg/mL for pregabalin, 0.07 ng/mL for perampanel, 3.00 µg/mL for rufinamide, and 2.06 µg/mL for vigabatrin. All AEDs demonstrated acceptable assay parameters for carryover, stability, and matrix effects. Moreover, the assay showed satisfactory results compared to two different hospitals with a bias of less than 15%. CONCLUSIONS: We successfully developed and validated a fast and robust UPLC-MS/MS method for routine therapeutic drug monitoring of thirteen antiepileptic drugs simultaneously.

RESUMEN

A collaborative study was conducted to establish the first Indian Pharmacopoeia Reference Standard (IPRS) for teriparatide to be used in quality control testing of marketed products in compliance with the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) monograph. The study objective was to evaluate the candidate standard in terms of the WHO International Standard (IS) to assign its content in mg per vial terms. This study involved four laboratories from India and the candidate standard was calibrated against the WHO IS by each participant laboratory using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) assay method per IP monograph. Direct calibration of the candidate standard resulted in an assigned content of 1.02 mg per vial. Based on the study results the candidate standard was judged suitable to serve as the first IPRS for teriparatide for identification and assay by HPLC.

We report on the recommendation of the simple and versatility of methylated reference (MR) to improve applications in the single reference (SR)-LC based on relative molar sensitivity (RMS). Three curcuminoids (Curs) such as curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin in turmeric products were determined using authentic standards and methylated curcumin. In addition, high-speed countercurrent chromatography (HSCCC) purification is necessary to separate Curs for indicating the RMS. For HSCCC separation, a biphasic solvent system was used to obtain these fractions, which were then subjected to 1H quantitative NMR to determine their contents in each test solution. Using these solutions, the RMS of Curs are calculated from slopes ratios of calibration curves (three ranges from 0-100 µmol/L, r2 > 0.998). The averaged RMS of Curs were 8.92 (relative standard deviation (RSD), 1.17%), 8.97 (2.18%), and 9.61 (0.77%), respectively. Cur concentrations in turmeric products can be determined using RMS, peak area, and MR content added in these samples. This proposed method, which is based on chemical methylation and the SR-LC assay has been successfully applied for the simple and reliable estimation of Curs in turmeric products.

Pexidartinib is the first drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration specifically to treat the rare joint tumor tenosynovial giant cell tumor. In the current study, a validated, selective, and sensitive UPLC-MS/MS assay was developed for the quantitative determination of pexidartinib in plasma samples using gifitinib as an internal standard (IS). Pexidartinib and IS were extracted by liquid-liquid extraction using methyl tert-butyl ether and separated on an acquity BEH C18 column kept at 40 °C using a mobile phase of 0.1% formic acid in acetonitrile: 0.1% formic acid in de-ionized water (70:30). The flow rate was 0.25 mL/min. Multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) was operated in electrospray (ESI)-positive mode at the ion transition of 418.06 > 165.0 for the analyte and 447.09 > 128.0 for the IS. FDA guidance for bioanalytical method validation was followed in method validation. The linearity of the established UPLC-MS/MS assay ranged from 0.5 to 1000 ng/mL with r > 0.999 with a limit of quantitation of 0.5 ng/mL. Moreover, the metabolic stability of pexidartinib in liver microsomes was estimated.

Free radicals and oxidants are involved in physiological signaling pathways, although an imbalance between pro-oxidant and anti-oxidant systems in favor of the former leads to major biomolecular damage. This is the so-called oxidative stress, a complex process that affects us all and is responsible for the development of many diseases. Lipids are very sensitive to oxidant attack and to-date, malondialdehyde (MDA), 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (4-HNE) and F2-isoprostane are the main biomarkers for lipid peroxidation assessment. They all derive from polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) either by enzyme-catalyzed reactions (physiological) or by non-enzyme reactions (pathological). The profile of PUFAs present in the tissue will determine the proportion of each biomarker. In this review we aim to discuss the proper method for MDA determination using HPLC. We also offer reference MDA values in humans in physiological and pathological conditions.

Biologics manufacturers must continually monitor the attachment of carbohydrates, called glycans, to their products, because any variability can impact safety and efficacy. To help the industry meet this challenge, the United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) offers glycan reference standards and validated methods for glycoprofiling using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The industry has recently adopted more advanced technologies for glycan analysis, including ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) and mass spectrometry. In this study, we confirm that USP's glycan reference standards are compatible with UHPLC by demonstrating comparable peak separation and glycan identification to HPLC methods. The improved resolving power and shorter run-times of UHPLC also allowed us to identify many of the minor glycan components present in USP's glycan reference standards. These more comprehensively characterized glycan reference standards will enable manufacturers to assess the micro-heterogeneity that can negatively impact the safety and efficacy of biological products.

RATIONALE: Interest in growth hormone secretagogues has intensified during the past several years based on capable, ever-widening investigational applications of recombinant growth hormone in animals and humans. Ibutamoren is a potent, long-acting, selective and orally active non-peptide growth hormone secretagogue, which has a great potential for abuse as a performance-enhancing agent in sports. METHODS: To support drug metabolism and pharmacokinetic studies of chiral pharmaceuticals, it is necessary to combine the resolving power of high-performance liquid chromatography with the sensitivity of mass spectrometric techniques. This paper describes the metabolic conversion of ibutamoren using equine liver microsomes and metabolite characterization using a QExactive high-resolution mass spectrometer. RESULTS: A total of 32 metabolites for ibutamoren (20 phase I and 12 phase II) were detected. The important findings of the current research are as follows: (1) the growth hormone secretagogue ibutamoren was prone to oxidation, resulting in corresponding hydroxylated metabolites; (2) in ibutamoren, the dissociation of the phenyl ring and 2-amino-2-methylpropanamide side chain was also observed; (3) the glucuronic acid conjugates of mono-, di- and trihydroxylated analogues were detected; and (4) no sulfonic acid conjugated metabolites were observed in this study of ibutamoren. CONCLUSIONS: The reported data help in the speedy detection of the growth hormone secretagogue ibutamoren and reveal its illegal use in competitive sports.

ABSTRACT: Therapeutic drug monitoring of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) has been recommended to optimize the treatment of patients with COVID-19. The authors describe an ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography tandem spectrometry method developed in a context of emergency, to analyze HCQ in both human plasma and blood samples. After adding the labeled internal standard and simple protein precipitation, plasma samples were analyzed using a C18 column. Blood samples required evaporation before analysis. The total chromatographic run time was 4 minutes (including 1.5 minutes of column equilibration). The assay was linear over the calibration range (r2 > 0.99) and up to 1.50 mcg/mL for the plasma samples (5.00 mcg/mL for the blood matrix). The limit of quantification was 0.0150 mcg/mL for plasma samples (0.05 mcg/mL blood matrix) with accuracy and precision ranging from 91.1% to 112% and from 0.750% to 11.1%, respectively. Intraday and interday precision and accuracy values were within 15.0%. No significant matrix effect was observed in the plasma or blood samples. This method was successfully applied to patients treated for COVID-19 infection. A simple and rapid ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography tandem spectrometry method adapted to HCQ therapeutic drug monitoring in the context of SARS-CoV-2 infection was successfully developed and validated.

To achieve the measurement reliability of monosaccharides used as diagnostic markers in clinical fields, it is essential to establish certified reference materials (CRMs). The purpose of this study is to develop a serum CRM by adopting high-performance anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection (HPAEC-PAD) as a new candidate reference measurement procedure for the measurement of glucose and galactose, common diagnostic markers of diabetes and galactosemia, respectively. Using various monosaccharides as internal standards, the accuracy of the HPAEC-PAD method was tested by measuring glucose CRM following treatment with three different deproteinization methods: ultrafiltration, protein precipitation by trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and protein precipitation by acetonitrile. Results showed that ultrafiltration and 5% TCA provided good accuracy with every tested monosaccharide as the internal standard. Accordingly, serum samples in this study were treated by ultrafiltration after adding 2-deoxy-D-glucose and arabinose, which were selected as internal standards for galactose and glucose, respectively. Both intra- and inter-day recovery tests showed good precision and accuracy within 2%. From the serum CRM batches prepared at two levels, 11 units were analyzed by exact-matched calibration methods, and the mass fractions of galactose and glucose were determined via HPAEC-PAD. The between-unit relative standard deviations were not more than 1.5%, showing homogeneity. The expanded uncertainties (%) of galactose and glucose for both levels were less than 3.6% and 2.3% at 95% confidence. The HPAEC-PAD method presented in this study can significantly improve the accuracy and precision of simultaneous monosaccharide analysis, allowing for the development of further serum CRMs for monosaccharides. Zearalenone (ZEN), an estrogenic mycotoxin produced by several species of Fusarium fungi, is a common contaminant of cereal-based food worldwide. Due to frequent occurrences associated with high levels of ZEN, maize oil is a particular source of exposure. Although a European maximum level for ZEN in maize oil exists according to Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1126/2007 along with a newly developed international standard method for analysis, certified reference materials (CRM) are still not available. To overcome this lack, the first CRM for the determination of ZEN in contaminated maize germ oil (ERM®-BC715) was developed in the frame of a European Reference Materials (ERM®) project according to the requirements of ISO Guide 35. The whole process of CRM development including preparation, homogeneity and stability studies, and value assignment is presented. The assignment of the certified mass fraction was based upon an in-house study using high-performance liquid chromatography isotope dilution tandem mass spectrometry. Simultaneously, to support the in-house certification study, an interlaboratory comparison study was conducted with 13 expert laboratories using different analytical methods. The certified mass fraction and expanded uncertainty (k = 2) of ERM®-BC715 (362 ± 22) µg kg-1 ZEN are traceable to the SI. This reference material is intended for analytical quality control and contributes to the improvement of consumer protection and food safety.

A freeze-dried mussel tissue-certified reference material (CRM-FDMT1) was prepared containing the marine algal toxin classes azaspiracids, okadaic acid and dinophysistoxins, yessotoxins, pectenotoxins, cyclic imines, and domoic acid. Thus far, only a limited number of analogues in CRM-FDMT1 have been assigned certified values; however, the complete toxin profile is significantly more complex. Liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry was used to profile CRM-FDMT1. Full-scan data was searched against a list of previously reported toxin analogues, and characteristic product ions extracted from all-ion-fragmentation data were used to guide the extent of toxin profiling. A series of targeted and untargeted acquisition MS/MS experiments were then used to collect spectra for analogues. A number of toxins previously reported in the literature but not readily available as standards were tentatively identified including dihydroxy and carboxyhydroxyyessotoxin, azaspiracids-33 and -39, sulfonated pectenotoxin analogues, spirolide variants, and fatty acid acyl esters of okadaic acid and pectenotoxins. Previously unreported toxins were also observed including compounds from the pectenotoxin, azaspiracid, yessotoxin, and spirolide classes. More than one hundred toxin analogues present in CRM-FDMT1 are summarized along with a demonstration of the major acyl ester conjugates of several toxins. Retention index values were assigned for all confirmed or tentatively identified analogues to help with qualitative identification of the broad range of lipophilic toxins present in the material.

Mogroside V is one of the characteristic and effective components of luohanguo extract, a food additive used as a sweetener in Japan as per Japan's Standards and Specifications for Food Additives (JSFA; 9th ed.). JSFA stipulates that the quantitative determination for mogroside V content in luohanguo extract applies HPLC using analytical standard mogroside V. However, no mogroside V reagents with proven purities are commercially available. Therefore the current JSFA determination method is not particularly suited for daily quality control operations involving luohanguo extract. In this study, we applied an alternative quantitative method using a single reference with relative molar sensitivity (RMS). It was possible to calculate the accurate RMS by an offline combination of 1H-quantitative NMR spectroscopy (1H-qNMR) and an HPLC/variable-wavelength detector (VWD). Using the RMS of mogroside V to a commercial certified reference material grade caffeine, the mogroside V contents in luohanguo extracts could be determined using HPLC/VWD without analytical standard mogroside V. There was no significant difference between the mogroside V contents in luohanguo extracts determined using the method employing single-reference caffeine with the RMS and using the JSFA method. The absolute calibration curve for the latter was prepared using an analytical standard mogroside V whose purity was determined by 1H-qNMR. These results demonstrate that our proposed method using a single reference with RMS is suitable for quantitative determination of mogroside V in luohanguo extract and can be used as an alternative method to the current assay method in JSFA.

As a traditional Chinese medicine, Euodiae Fructus is widely used due to its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antihypertensive effects. However, Euodiae Fructus has also been documented to be toxic, and the toxic effects can be reduced by processing. To distinguish Euodiae Fructus from its processes products and study the changes of raw and processed products before and after processing, we evaluated four auxiliary material processing methods including vinegar, Zingiberis Rhizoma, Coptidis Rhizoma, and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma. The raw Euodiae Fructus and four processed Euodiae Fructus samples were analyzed and compared based on the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) fingerprints combined with chemometrics, including principal component analysis (PCA), partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), and principal component analysis-class (PCA-Class). A total of 27 common peaks were obtained by fingerprint analysis. The fingerprint similarity of raw and processed samples was between 0.86-0.999. We also determined the contents of the main active ingredients - Evodiamine and Rutaecarpine. PCA and PLS-DA analyses were used to distinguish between the raw and processed samples of Euodiae Fructus, and 14 chemical markers were screened out. Four kinds of processed products were further analyzed and the results showed that they could be successfully distinguished under the established models, and 12 chemical markers were labeled. PCA-Class results revealed that the classification models constructed in this study had adequate discrimination ability. The method combined with HPLC fingerprinting and multi-component chemical pattern recognition technology could be used to differentiate raw and processed Euodiae Fructus with adequate predictive power. Our findings confirmed the rationality of the pharmacopoeial method and provided a reference for the quality control of the Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma processed Euodiae Fructus.

The aim of the work was to prepare a simple but reliable HPLC-UV method for the routine monitoring of mycophenolic acid (MPA). Sample preparation was based on plasma protein precipitation with acetonitrile. The isocratic separation of MPA and internal standard (IS) fenbufen was made on Supelcosil LC-CN column (150 × 4.6 mm, 5 µm) using a mobile phase: CH3CN:H2O:0.5M KH2PO4:H3PO4 (260:700:40:0.4, v/v). UV detection was set at 305 nm. The calibration covered the MPA concentration range: 0.1-40 µg/mL. The precision was satisfactory with RSD of 0.97-7.06% for intra-assay and of 1.92-5.15% for inter-assay. The inaccuracy was found between -5.72% and +2.96% (+15.40% at LLOQ) and between -8.82% and +5.31% (+19.00% at LLOQ) for intra- and inter-assay, respectively, fulfilling acceptance criteria. After a two-year period of successful application, the presented method has been retrospectively calibrated using the raw data disregarding the IS in the calculations. The validation and stability parameters were similar for both calculation methods. MPA concentrations were recalculated and compared in 1187 consecutive routine therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) trough plasma samples from mycophenolate-treated patients. A high agreement (r2 = 0.9931, p < 0.0001) of the results was found. A Bland-Altman test revealed a mean bias of -0.011 µg/mL (95% CI: -0.017; -0.005) comprising -0.14% (95% Cl: -0.39; +0.11), whereas the Passing-Bablok regression was y = 0.986x + 0.014. The presented method can be recommended as an attractive analytical tool for medical (hospital) laboratories equipped with solely basic HPLC apparatus. The procedure can be further simplified by disapplying an internal standard while maintaining appropriate precision and accuracy of measurements.

A fast HPLC method with fluorescence detector (FD) was developed for the determination of three tocopherols (TOCs) in milk samples from Modicana cattle breed. The ultrasound-assisted procedure was optimized for the extraction of TOCs prior to HPLC/FD analysis, reducing sample preparation time and allowing a fast quantification of α-tocopherol, δ-tocopherol and γ tocopherol. The optimized ultrasonic extraction combines an efficient and simple saponification at room temperature and a rapid HPLC quantification of TOCs in milk. The precision of the full analytical procedure was satisfactory and the recoveries at three spiked levels were between 95.3% and 87.8%. The linear correlations were evaluated (R2 > 0.99) and the relative standard deviation (RSD) values for intra-day and inter-day tests at three spiked levels were below 1% for the retention time and below 5.20% for the area at low level spiking. The proposed procedure, reducing the experimental complexity, allowed accurate extraction and detection of three TOCs in milk samples from Modicana cattle breed.

High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for catechins and related compounds in Miang (traditional Lanna fermented tea leaf) was developed to overcome the matrices during the fermentation process. We investigated a variety of columns and elution conditions to determine seven catechins, namely (+)-catechin, (-)-gallocatechin, (-)-epigallocatechin, (-)-epicatechin, (-)-epigallocatechin gallate, (-)-gallocatechin gallate, (-)-epicatechin gallate, as well as gallic acid and caffeine, resulting in the development of reproducible systems for analyses that overcome sample matrices. Among the three reversed-phase columns, column C (deactivated, with extra dense bonding, double endcapped monomeric C18, high-purity silica at 3.0 mm × 250 mm and a 5 µm particle size) significantly improved the separation between Miang catechins in the presence of acid in the mobile phase within a shorter analysis time. The validation method showed effective linearity, precision, accuracy, and limits of detection and quantitation. The validated system was adequate for the qualitative and quantitative measurement of seven active catechins, including gallic acid and caffeine in Miang, during the fermentation process and standardization of Miang extracts. The latter contain catechins and related compounds that are further developed into natural active pharmaceutical ingredients (natural APIs) for cosmeceutical and nutraceutical products.

Cefquinome and ceftiofur are ß-lactam antibiotics used for the treatment of bacterial infections in swine. Although these antimicrobials are administered intramuscularly, the exposure of the gut microbiota to these cephalosporins is not well described. This exposure can contribute to the emergence and spread of antimicrobials in the environment and to the possible spread of antimicrobial resistance genes. To assess the impact of drug administration on the intestinal excretion of these antimicrobials it is essential to measure the amounts of native compound and metabolites in feces. Two (ultra)-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry ((U)HPLC-MS/MS) methods were developed and validated, one for the determination of cefquinome and ceftiofur and the other for the determination of ceftiofur residues, measured as desfuroylceftiofuracetamide, in porcine feces. The matrix-based calibration curve was linear from 5 ng g-1 to 1000 ng g-1 for cefquinome (correlation coefficient (r) = 0.9990 ± 0.0007; goodness of fit (gof) = 3.70 ± 1.43) and ceftiofur (r = 0.9979 ± 0.0009; gof = 5.51 ± 1.14) and quadratic from 30 ng g-1 to 2000 ng g-1 for desfuroylceftiofuracetamide (r = 0.9960 ± 0.0020; gof = 7.31 ± 1.76). The within-day and between-day precision and accuracy fell within the specified ranges. Since ß-lactam antibiotics are known to be unstable in feces, additional experiments were conducted to adjust the sampling protocol in order to minimize the impact of the matrix constituents on the stability of the analytes. Immediately after sampling, 500 µL of an 8 µg mL-1 tazobactam solution in water was added to 0.5 g feces, to reduce the degradation in matrix.

BACKGROUND: Many studies report the monitoring of catechins in tea samples by chromatographic techniques. Unfortunately, only a small number of screening assays for catechins exist as a result of the complexity of authentic standards for the respective calibration curves. In the present study, a single reference (SR) exhaustive assay for the simultaneous quantification of tea-derived catechins by liquid chromatography (LC) with photodiode array and fluorescence detectors based on relative molar sensitivity (RMS) was developed as a screening assay of common tea samples without respective calibration curves using authentic standards. RESULTS: Three original SR standards were proposed based on flavonoid structures, evaluated by quantitative 1 H-NMR based on an indirect standard (1,4-bis(trimethylsilyl) benzene-d4 ) and successfully separated in a LC chromatogram. In tea samples with these added SR calculated based on RMS, the concentrations of eight tea-derived catechins could be measured with a relative SD of < 8.5% by a single LC run. CONCLUSION: This LC screening assay based on RMS allows reliable quantification without the requirement for respective calibration curves using authentic standards. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry.

The halogenated acetic acids (HAAs) are generally considered as environmental contaminants and are suspected to pose a major public health concern. The inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS) has been improved by coupling with the tandem mass spectrometry technology (ICPMS/MS), enabling ultratrace determination of heteroatoms. There have been few reports about the determination of chlorine-containing analytes by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-ICPMS/MS but none about utilizing this technique for the speciation analysis of organic halogenated compounds in environmental matrixes. We report a rapid method for the simultaneous determination of up to nine chlorinated and brominated acetic acids by HPLC-ICPMS/MS in Austrian surface, ground, and tap water. The chromatographic separation of the main five regulated haloacetic acids (so-called HAA5: chloroacetic acid, dichloroacetic acid, trichloroacetic acid, bromoacetic acid, and dibromoacetic acid) could be achieved in <6 min with limits of detection of 1.4-1.6 µg Cl L-1 and 0.8-1.5 µg Br L-1 for the chlorinated and brominated acetic acids, respectively. The method was validated through recovery experiments at four concentration levels (10-500 µg L-1) as well as by analyzing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 552.2 CRM (certified reference material) in pure water and in three different water matrixes (tap, river, and groundwater), and thereby validated for repeatability (RSD% 1-10%), accuracy (±1.0-15%), and linearity (r2 = 0.9996-0.9999). The method fulfills the regulatory concentration limits by the EPA for HAA5 [maximum contaminant level (MCL) 60 µg L-1] and the limits currently being reviewed by the European Union for HAA9 (80 µg L-1) and demonstrates the advantages of HPLC-ICPMS/MS for the analysis of environmental water samples for halogen-tagged contaminants.
