RESUMEN

Traumatic aneurysms of the left subclavian artery and transverse cervical artery, subsequent to penetrating gunshot wound were diagnosed by angiography in 35-year-old patient. Subclavian artery aneurysm was treated by insertion of the Memotherm bare stent, whereas the false aneurysm of the transverse cervical artery was embolized with Gianturco's coils. The follow up examinations at 6 and 12 months showed good patency of subclavian artery.

RESUMEN

We describe a patient with Takayasu's arteritis (type I): occlusion of all large vessels of the aortic arch except the left subclavian artery which was, however, almost completely occluded, resulting in a characteristic subclavian steal syndrome. Elective left main subclavian artery balloon angioplasty followed by endoluminal stenting was performed with excellent results. After prolonged immunosuppressive treatment, at the 12-month follow-up there was no evidence of restenosis. In selected patients with Takayasu's arteritis and subclavian stenosis, elective endoluminal stenting can be used as a definitive procedure or as a bridge to surgical revascularization.

RESUMEN

A 32-year old woman was admitted to the hospital with a sudden onset of right-sided hemiplegia and aphasia. Immediate angiographic examination revealed a severe form of type I Takayasu arteritis with occlusion of all supra-aortic vessels, with the exception of the left subclavian artery which was, however, almost completely occluded 1 cm proximal to the origin of the left vertebral artery. Since the latter provided the entire blood supply to the brain tissues, an immediate attempt was undertaken to dilate the left subclavian artery; when this was unrewarding, stenting of the lesion was successfully accomplished with excellent primary and 6-month follow-up results.

RESUMEN

Internet is a global computer network that connects numerous smaller computer networks. During the last several years Internet has become enormously popular and the number of users in the world has increased to 30 million. Internet is now a major tool for sharing computers resources and for communication between individuals and scientific institutions. Internet also contains enormous quantities of medical information and knowledge. During the last several years, many new sites have emerged on the Internet, offering exciting and useful information on medical practice, research, decision support, and education. This article describes the history of the Internet, the various ways of connecting to it and some of the tolls particularly useful for medical doctors. This article provides a tutorial how to access the important medical resources that Internet offers to the clinicians, teachers, and researcher. Also this article will provide description of access, structure and contents of the two World Wide Web locations. BioMedNet is a location designed for biomedical research. It was chosen because of its exceptional quality and importance for researchers. The second described location is CHORUS, developed for continuing education in radiology.
